redeemed i know that i am redeemed so if you're in this building we just first like to say good morning to you good morning to those that are in the building we say good morning to you that a virtual we come to praise the lord lift up the mighty name of jesus so if you will go with me to the lord in prayer amen father this morning god we come just to say thank you god we thank you god first of all for allowing us to see yet another day father god realizing that there are many that are sleep among us father god god not only that when you allowed us to sleep god you touched us this morning you woke us up you kept us in a sound mind you gave us food clothing and and things that we needed father god god we remind you we're reminded that you said in your words that if my people that are called by my name father god would humble themselves and pray god father god if we would turn from our wicked ways father god that you would heal our land seek your faith father god you'll heal our land so he before we go any further father god we pray god that you search each and every one of us that's in this building that's living listening virtually father god anything lord that's not like you anything god that's not pleasing anything god that's not of you god move it god cast it as far as the east is to the west god and don't remember it anymore lord lord we bless your name father god we come god to just ask you to feel your spirit rain down your your spirit father god upon everyone in this building god bless everyone every member of the church god bless every organization that's associated that's affiliated let's make this a place you worship god god we just thank you god we thank you god for the shepherd for the leader god for the overseer of our church god we thank you for the wisdom and the knowledge and the revelation that you continue to give him of your word father god god bless our first lady god continue to allow her to be the woman of god the virtuous woman that you would have us to to to follow after god [Music] god we ask you to bless those that are sick among us god god you know who they're they are you know the names that are on the sick list you know the names the that the ones that did not even give us their name god for you certain your words that you know what we have need of god we're praying god that you heal touch and deliver and set them free god god then we ask you that you go to the jail cells god touch those that are in the jail cells god deliver them god in the part of their sins lord you said that we have not because we ask not so we right now we asking god that you do a work my in their bodies god you said god that you will heal our minds our souls and our bodies sometimes we're sick and we don't know what part of us is sick god but you know lord lord then god asks you to touch those that are homeless god give them shelter god give them food give them peace god let them know that you said that they can come to you god that you're just standing there god with your arms wide open god let us as the people of god be a beacon of light unto those that come running that says what must i do let us walk in the way that you would have us to walk let us talk in the way that you have us to talk let us not be a form of righteousness god but let us in everything that we do and everything that we say give you the glory as we move amen amen september is designated as sickle cell awareness month sickle cell disease is a is an inherited blood disorder in which red blood cells may become sickle shaped and heartened for a baby to be born with sickle cell disease both parents must carry a sickle cell trait or genes for another hemoglobin sickle cell disease is not contagious and there is no universal cure the hardened red blood cells can lead to and cause extreme pain crisis the facts about 1 in 13 african americans carry the disease sick of cell trait and many do not know that they have it an estimated 100 000 people in the u.s have sickle cell disease approx approximately 2 000 babies are born with sickle cell disease annually in the u.s on an average disease on an average the disease is made at birth many people of many ignitive backgrounds can have sickle cell disease latinos have the second most common incident incidents in the u.s in our ministry we had a member by the name of james franklin who lost his battle with sickle cell disease and at this time i want to ask his family to be so kind to stand in his memory and and if anyone else is here that's battling this disease or have a family member that's battling the disease if you would be so kind to stand at this time we want to have a moment of silent prayer and amen and amen you may be seated at this time do we have you can let the guest in 3-5 luke 7 3 through five amen amen and amen hallelujah hallelujah hallelujah all right all right all right this morning we've been talking for several weeks now about a better me and i'm always asked the question is anybody getting better amen if you just take the lessons and apply them to whatever you're going through it will begin to work in your life and so this morning we're going to talk about a better me freedom through the power of forgiveness hallelujah now uh the lord spoke to me and so on wednesday night that's what we're going to talk about the rest of the year forgiveness so i need you to tune in at seven o'clock on wednesday nights we're going to be you know in advance we're going to be talking about forgiveness now some of the other preachers are going to help us minister this word on wednesday night amen amen amen let me just say thank you uh i listened in this week and preacher did a great job amen and uh if you don't tune in you ought to tune in amen because our strength comes through the teaching amen you know for years we said it don't take all that hoop in the hell church where we start teaching and folks still don't listen amen we i i'm always watching how many is online so i want to encourage everybody to go online take that time out you know make it like the have and the have not you know just make that time seven o'clock wednesday night that's my half and half knots cause anything we really like we there you got it and so i want to encourage us because when we learn how to forgive well let me back up growth never takes place until we get some devices out of us and so as christians we call ourself a christian right so as christians we have to learn how to forgive all right you got luke luke 17 3-5 uh the physician now you know that's a prescription to us right there he's a doctor and you know you go to the doctor we go to the doctor and we expect to go in and come out with a prescription you just don't go to see how the doctor's doing it's something ailing you and you want it fixed got it all right so luke says so and i'm in the niv he says so watch yourselves if your brother or sister sinned against you rebuke them and if they repent forgive them even if they sin against you seven times in a day and seven times come back to you saying i repent you must forgive them the apostles said to the lord increase our faith you got to know that forgiveness is not easy and and here it is the apostles who are with jesus and jesus started telling them you got to ask folk for forgiveness and you got to accept it and they said lord we need some more faith so somebody in here you need some more faith so that you can forgive people now i'm going to talk about it further in the lesson but that rebuke is not what you think it is it didn't say that's not talking about beating them down that's talking about going to them in a loving manner got it i rebuke kills i'm gonna tell you where to go you got it but that's not what the bible is talking about it's okay if you don't you're gonna say amen after a while amen amen ah so the apostles that lets me know that many of us struggle with forgiveness because even the men of god were struggling with that forgiveness you know they like being around him they liked what he was doing you know you like it when folk are doing something you connected to and we started dropping names that's the way the disciples and the apostles were they were they were name droppers and then jesus told him but i got some folks you need to forgive you got to quit holding fault against them we that are strong have to bear the infirmities of those that are weak amen and that comes through forgiveness so my first question is are you burdened by broken relationships in the past you got to let it go hallelujah do you struggle with guilt or do you regret unresolved conflicts let me just footnote it right here i need the church to understand this when you forgive me that is for you first got it so forgiveness is for us first and for the offended person second part of the requirement for living the christian life is to walk in forgiveness and to walk in love let me tell us that we cannot successfully walk in love without walking in forgiveness you know if we're gonna hold a fault against somebody then god cannot do what he want to do in our life and so many times we ask god for things and then we tell god god you told me to ask you and you won't give it to me but the reason why god does not give us some things is because some of us are dealing with some hidden problems hallelujah we talk about i'm saved i'm sanctified and i'm filled with the holy ghost but i'm still holding on to some mess that happened a long time ago and and the bible teaches me that i've got to give forgiveness in order to move forward why because forgiveness can heal us and allow us to move on in life with meaning and purpose have you or have you met somebody that they have no purpose in life they don't know why they here and that's because they are holding on to some stuff watch this how many folks in here been hurt before that's all of us so why am i gonna walk around with my hurt on my shoulder and i'm talking about i'm on my way to heaven and i'm not gonna let anything or anything or anybody separate me so my healing comes when i began to forgive those who had a fault against me uh forgiving others produces some strong psychological benefits uh for the one who forgives you know forgiving others uh have shown to decrease depression you don't have to walk around depressed you holding on to some and the person that did it they going about their business and you mad every day every time you see them you mad and so what happened is every time you see them and you get mad and you cuss them in your spirit am i talking to somebody you lost a star in your crown right there paul said when i want to do good evil presents itself you know forgiving others will take away anxiety you see them and you just start blowing up unhealthy anger you walk around mad at everybody you cut everybody off you hit it everybody when folk are just trying to be nice to you and when you forgive you relinquish the symptoms of stress hallelujah i tell folks how you gonna let somebody else stress you out they all up here in your brain and they laughing at you when all you got to do is forgive them you know even jesus said and i'm going to tell you about that later on he said father forgive them for they know not what they do those of us that are saved in here you got to get up every morning figuring that somebody going to do something out of order with me today why because i'm a child of god and so the devil is going to always pick at me he did jesus like that jesus been up on the mountain for 40 days hearing from god all built up full of the holy ghost and he come down and the devil said if you'll just eat everything you see here i'll give it to you how the devil gonna give jesus something that already belongs to him that's how the devil works on us so i get up every day realizing that i'm gonna have a great day cause when the enemy come toward me i'm gonna start talking to my father because i know that my father will surround me and take care of me the forgiveness we have in christ involves the release somebody said release of our sins from god's just penalty and the complete dismissal of all the charges against us anybody want to be free in here i want to be free so i realize that i've got to forgive you for for the lord to release me from the mess that he that i created you know he forgives us we're good about lord please i repent in the name of jesus release me from the harm i've done but yet we don't want to do that for nobody else so there's power in forgiveness watch this isaiah 55 and 7 says there's some things we got to do isaiah says let the wicked that's us when we don't forgive and when we full of anxiety and when we after somebody let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts let them turn to the lord and he will have mercy on them and to our god for he will freely pardon us that's how easy it is for me to just say i'm sorry somebody you're sitting here right now you got somebody that you need to fix that with you somebody mad at their mama mad at their daddy mad at their sister brother you got to fix that you got a husband and wife that's been sleeping in the same house and haven't been talking to each other all week long somebody got to ask for forgiveness but as we progress on our journey of becoming a better me we must realize that god's gracious forgiveness of our sin is to be measured of our grateful our gracious forgiveness of others so god got god god god measures me on the merits that i show to somebody else you ever wonder why what y'all call it pay for but is this what it's called pay it forward you ever wondered maybe you never get paid forward because you never pay forward do unto others as you would have them do unto you you ever wonder why folk don't like you but you don't like other people a man must show himself friendly in order to obtain friends we still together so ephesians 4 31-32 we want to work on forgiveness so the first thing i'm going to do i'm going to forgive myself for the mess i've made of my life anybody else's life been in a mess hallelujah i'm not just up here because i've been good all my life i'm up here because i asked god to forgive me for all the wrong doings that i've done in the past that i'm doing now and the ones that are gonna come in the future after all you got to know that that's why jesus died so that we could be free from the forgiveness of sin so here paul begins to talk about us and i don't need to talk much about paul you know how i feel about him i like paul because paul cuts us and you know every wound must heal when you've been cut and the way you take care of it determines the way the outcome is got it and so if we'll take care of this when paul begins to cut us with the word of god we will see ourselves begin to grow so the thing about paul is paul talks about forgiveness but paul says i want you to get yourself right first anybody in here working on self now all right paul says in the 31st verse he says you got to get rid of all bitterness you got to let go of that rage and that anger you got to stop having a brawling mouth and slandering folk and you got to stop every form of malice being a christian is not making you hurt because i hurt that's not being a christian the bible said don't do an eye for an eye in other words don't look for my weak points because your weak points were brought out then in the 32nd verse after he told us what we got to get rid of he says now this is what i really need you to do when you can get rid of slander and bitterness and anger and uh malice he says now be kind somebody said be kind you know it don't take much to be kind just a kind word you can just speak to somebody and you make somebody's day be kind and compassionate to who one another so that's a two-way street praise the lord somebody that's a two-way street to one another forgiving each other just as in christ god forgave us let that marinate right there you ever noticed that god don't go back and bring it up now something i learned in my studying i always tell folk when you forgive you forget no the bible speaks differently god never forgets it but he never challenges us with it again the deal with us is we say i forgive you and 30 days later i remind you of that situation so god said i won't bring it back up to you again but i remember what you did out of order you still with me now i know that to some folk forgiveness seemed like a weakness i'm the one always giving in look like you're just walking all over me folk talking quit worrying about what folks say about you everybody that talk about what they wouldn't do in your house guess what they tell you i wouldn't let that man talk to me like that you got it they either taking it at home or they don't have one sometimes we think forgetting is letting that undeserving person win that's the way we think when we're in the flesh i can't give in no you're gonna walk on me again you got to know that we built to be walked on the preacher understand everybody don't like him just because they go to his church see y'all shame to even clap your hands it's okay hallelujah but we built for that if they talked about jesus they gonna talk about his followers and i am a disciple you are a disciple we are a follower of christ have you ever noticed folk don't like the good stuff you do they like the bad stuff i'm gonna make it simple and sweet right here it's christmas time if you give them a gift they start smiling they don't say thank you i appreciate you because i know you didn't have to do it but if you don't give them a gift they gonna talk about you i can't believe they gave everybody else a gift in the room and i didn't get nothing from them folks like to talk about the negative stuff about us so you got to be built for that you got to be see we come to church to learn how to deal with them other folk we don't come to church to learn how to act like them but we come to church to be delivered from acting like them so we can learn how to deal with them so the way we deal with them is that we forgive them why because forgiveness is an act of the will of god forgiveness is not granted uh just because we deserve it because none of us deserve forgiveness the bible said we are all as filthy rags forgiveness is a deliberate act watch this now of love mercy and grace deliberate act of love mercy and grace it's simply a decision i got to make that decision that i'm not going to hold something against another person despite what he or she has done for me it is just so easy to just pray and keep going and when you see him say hello god didn't say we had to have a conversation with him but he did say we have to recognize him praise the lord all right go with me to colossians 3 12 therefore as god's who it might say elect in the king james i'm not sure chosen people we are god's chosen people the christian are god's chosen people we're holy and dearly love he said clothe yourself with what compassion ain't nobody else reading clothe yourself with compassion kindness now if you can't see yourself in this scripture you really need to start reading it this is what the chosen people look like we thought it was dressing up having the best hair do having the best suit of clothes in the church made me chosen give him more money no no no no this is what the bible said the chosen folk of god look like we have to be holy dear love there's some things that we have to unroll the bible talks about we have to take off our night clothes and put on our day clothes see we singing in our night clothes but here's our day clothes he says you got to clothe yourself with compassion kindness humility gentleness you learn how to get along when you start being gentle hallelujah you know you got to tone your voice you got to take some of the bass out of it first lady will do me like this that means decrease and then you got to have some patience they they wait upon the lord everything's not going to change overnight praise the lord but you can't be 30 years still saying i'm i'm i'm working on me now you ain't working on you god and i already told you you was a mess that that you're using his word in vain but we got to start working on ourselves watch this the 13th verse he says bear with each other and forgive another if any of you have a what against someone in other words he's saying forgive him hallelujah now let me just help somebody sometimes god tell you to forgive somebody and you be saying god i didn't do nothing they was in the wrong there's a reason why god instructs his people because we're the chosen people so sometimes we got to be the bigger person got it it's not about who harmed one another but see i want to be free up here hallelujah i want to be free up here so if god tell me i had to learn that god god spoke to me and told me to forgive somebody i was trying to prepare my first sermon i couldn't feel the presence of god but i knew i had been called to preach i went to my pastor he said if god told you you got to do it i did it and i was free then i could hear from god he says forgive as i have forgiven you the 14th verse says and over all these virtues he said you got to have love because love binds them all together and makes perfect unity then he said let the peace of christ rule in your hearts since as members of one body we are all called to peace and be thankful i told you earlier we find freedom when we learn how to forgive now let's go back to our foundational scripture in luke 17 1-5 i'm almost done and then i'm going to give you eight points for you to take home with you again did anybody go over the points this week praise the lord praise the lord i want to teach it so you can get it uh jesus was teaching his disciples in luke 17 1-5 he was teaching them about forgiveness and he was preparing them in the first verse he starts off by saying temptations that's those snares you know those traps that try to entice us to sin he said they are sure to come stop fooling yourself that you super saved none of us are super saved praise the lord sometimes even save folk a week sometimes you don't talk all night long you said i just couldn't sleep no no no no no no you was taller with the enemy and sometimes the enemy can get the victory because he's trying to set up some snares and some traps to make us go against what we say we believe in he says but temptations are sure to come but sorrow awaits the person who does the tempting it would be more profitable for him if a milestone were hung around his neck and he was hurtled into the sea than to influence one of my believers to fall into sin that's why you often hear me saying i know you don't like it when i say it in order to move forward it's some folk you got to leave behind you got it everybody can't move forward with you some folk are just in your camp to tempt you to do wrong if you marry then you got single friends they have to treat you like they married got it that's the only way y'all it's okay for y'all to go out together but they got that like they got a ring on their finger too they can't be encouraging you to do the negative the bible says that sorrow will fall on them so sometimes we're like god why am i going through this think back think back i've been enticing somebody to do what they ought not do think back that's what we don't do the third verse says pay attention that's what i'm gonna tell you and forgive you gotta learn to pay attention be watchful and always be on your god if your brother sinned that mean he misses the mark that's all of us sincerely and lovingly that's that word rebuke sincerely and lovingly reprimand him got it there's a difference have you ever noticed that folks are willing to listen to you when you come to them the right way everybody's different you might play with me one way but you can't play with everybody like that you come at somebody else let me tell you something that can take it into a whole different zone and so the bible says that we ought to sincerely and lovingly reprimand them and if they repent feel sorry for them and forgive them and even if he sins against you seven times in a day my god my god still our job to accept them back they tell you i'm sorry we can't judge that i'm sorry see that help me because i tell them kids in a minute that's all you say is i'm sorry so we got to give up that resentment and consider the offense as remembered but canceled that's what forgiveness is it's remembered but i've canceled it the apostles said to the lord show us how to increase our faith on forgiveness other words give us more of that trust in that confidence that spring out of you all right i'm i'm ready uh there are many great acts of forgiveness in the bible that we can learn from you know joseph forgave his treacherous brothers stephen forgave those who murdered him in cold blood all he was doing he was full of the holy ghost he was excited and anointed and he was preaching the word of god and they got mad at him i told you folk don't want to hear the truth and then best of all jesus forgave those that crucified him jesus was walking the streets and changing folk healing the lame and the blind you know feeding five thousand he was teaching divine wisdom but it's always somebody that don't want you ahead of them so they found them guilty on some trumped-up charges and and and had him to hang between two condemned criminals and jesus was way better than us he said father forgive them for they know not what they do so this morning i want to close with eight strategies that will help and show you how to forgive got your phones out whatever you need strategy number one you have to know what forgiveness is that's romans 12 17 through 18. forgiveness is about goodness and it's about extending mercy got it number two you have to become forgivingly fit in other words i got to study god's word matthew 5 and 44. see the way i become fit is i'm i make a commitment to not do harm to the other person in other words i'm gonna make a conscious effort not to talk unfavorably about them and about those that hurt me i'm going to start praying for them i'm i'm i'm not going to say bad things about them i'm a refrain from that negativity and bring up the forgiving side of my heart number three i've got to address my inner pains anytime we struggle with forgiveness we have some inner pains let me tell you why it is so detrimental to hold on to it that's proverbs 28 and 13 because there are many forms of emotional pain and if i don't address them they will go to sleep and at some point they gonna wake up and because i did not address them and fix them it may be 10 years down the road and when they wake up it may be that you've taken on a husband and a wife and something negative happened in your childhood and now you blame the best thing you have so you got to address that the day's over with where we said the family can handle it no we can't hallelujah we need to get some professional help when we have professional problems number four develop a forgiving mind through empathy which is compassion that that that's how i learned how to forgive through compassion see what happened that's first peter 3 9-11 what we have to do when we got a problem we have to examine that problem and we have to begin to look at that person some people hurt us when they think they're doing the right thing and you got to look back at where they came from got it when we got married i hurt my wife because i didn't spend money like that i made her take some clothes back one time that hurt her but i wasn't used to spending money every week got it i didn't know what it was to go out in a restaurant until i married her we ate at home that didn't make sense to me i had to show some compassion you have to realize that everybody carries some wounds got it you ain't only somebody having a bad day yours may be the day mine tomorrow but we all are wound carriers number five find meaning in your suffering ephesians 1 7 through eight stop using that old woo is me syndrome praise the lord that's what the devil want us to do the devil want us to think that i'm the only pro folk up in the church praise the lord if we do not see a meaning we lose our sense of purpose which will lead us to be hopeless and despairing number six when forgiveness is hard call upon other strengths that's james 5 14 through 16. the problem with forgiving folk is we like to go to folk just like us you got it baby nobody else said amen but the baby did listen if i'm a negative person and i'm your best buddy i'm not the one for you to talk to about your problem guess what i'm not going to tell you to forgive i'm going to tell you how to get even we got it we want to hide everything from the saints of god you know the preacher you know and we'll never bring him in until he's out of order you already know your marriage is in trouble don't wait to somebody pack up and leave to start going to counseling hallelujah take a vacation together sit in a room where ain't nobody there but you and you and the lord and talk about your situation we have to surround ourselves with good and wise people who support us and have the patience to allow us the time to heal on our own praise the lord number seven forgive yourself stop walking around with that burden on you everything you'd undone out and done or somebody else has done but you got to let it go tell yourself let it go say let it go self let it go let it go everywhere you go you look and you think somebody talking about you when folks are whispering don't mean they whispering about you that's because you have not let go of what's surrounding you most of us tend to be harder on ourselves than we own other on others and we struggle to love ourself so if you're not feeling lovable because of the action you've taken you need to work on self-forgiveness don't keep killing yourself talking about you know what i don't have nothing because i blew that money make a commitment the next time the lord bless me i'm going to take my money and do what i'm supposed to do with it got it just cause everybody else is going out deep don't mean you need to go out to eat praise the lord that's how that's how we get in debt we try to do what everybody else is doing so we have to forgive ourselves for thinking like that at number eight and i'm closing you have to develop a forgiving spirit anything that you develop you work on it you're gonna make some mistakes while you're developing thomas edison worked with that light bulb he made a lot of mistakes but one day he got it to shine in all of our lives we made some mistakes when we overcome suffering we gain a more mature understanding of what it means to be humble courageous and loving in the world so i got to overcome what i'm holding on to in other words that's why it's important for me to forgive myself i developed this heart and now i forgive you see we'll tell somebody i forgive you but you haven't forgiven yourself and so you're not the same person anymore and so you got to work on yourself while you're expecting other people to work on themselves hallelujah some people may believe that love for another loving the other one who harmed you is impossible but it's not it's not if we shed bitterness and put love in this place and then repeat this and many other and repeat this over and over again we will become free you can't just tell yourself one time i'm forgiving but you got to repeat it over see cause the devil gonna try you the devil gonna try you when you say is i'm sorry then you're gonna sit down and the devil gonna start playing that thing over in your mind and then you're gonna start thinking this and you're gonna start thinking this and now your personality and your attitude gets out of order and so it's important anybody want to be free in here maybe you're holding on to things i admonish you today to let them go being a christian is being free it's hard to bless other folk when i'm holding on to some things i'm stingy with my love when i'm holding on to some things but jesus said that he died so that we could be free and so we've got to die to self so that we can be free god loves us that's why he gave his son and so god expects us to share the same love and so maybe you are here with us on today and you're struggling with forgiveness you got some things that you thought you couldn't let go but your desire is to be a christian and in that desire it means that there are some things that i cannot do anymore because i've declared and decreed to be a child of god and so if you hear and two things i'm going to ask some of you one if you're looking for a church home if you'll make your way to the altar we'll be glad to accept you in and if this is not where you want to be we don't mind sending you where you want to be but we are a bible believing church and number two if forgiveness is something you're struggling with i'm gonna ask you to stand so when we have our corporate prayer the prayer will not go over you but it'll go in you if we can't be honest nowhere else we need to be honest before god god is some stuff in me that keeps me from feeling your spirit my desires to live a holy life and so i'm hearing paul say you got to let go of some stuff that wound will never heal until you let it go is there anybody else hallelujah anybody else want to be better a better me [Music] you know that peace and that forgiveness worked together i got to throw some stuff [Music] god and search our hearts dear god god began to remove those things that's not of you dear god god removed those little foxes god that nobody see but you dear god god begin to search and sterily dear god as we surrender our hearts and minds unto you dear god god we can't move forward god put that stuff in our heart god we can't be like you with that stuff in our hearts dear god our ways can't please you dear god with that stuff in our hearts our thoughts can't be like your thoughts with that stuff in our hearts so god right now father searches god god searches god god sent us god god remove those things that's not of you father god god take it out right now dear god so that we can move forward dear god god touch our minds touch our hearts dear god god we ask you right now el shaddai to touch us god god we need you father because god we can't forgive nobody unless you do it dear god so god talked us right now god we need you dear god god begin to search us thoroughly god just god god search us god oh god we need you right now dear god if it's a loved one we ask you god right now god that we will begin to forgive them whatever it is that we need god we know you got us
