I hear you got a new- an electric car. I did. Is it outside? It is. How about giving me a ride around the block? I can do that. You couldn't drive up to Sudbury I'm sure. Yeah, you can. Could you? Yeah. What they have is - they have - They have things called superchargers. To fully charge my car at home it would probably take three and a half hours to four hours. Without recharging again? To charge it from zero to a hundred. 'Bout - About 400 - About 400 kilometers. 400 kilometers? That's pretty good! Yeah, let's say you get to the supercharger, and you're close to zero? It'll charge your car in about an hour. Takes that long, eh? But you don't have to do, but it'll charge half of your car in about 20 minutes. You can't see the battery. It's - It's inside the car. The whole bottom of the car is batteries. How do you fill it? What what is it? I mean a battery is either You gotta refill it or you gotta recharge it? Yeah. You say - You're telling me when you wake up in the morning you can go to 300 kilometers or 200 or whatever the limit is. Right? Right. So, what - what machinery do you have to recharge it? I have a s - a - actually I'll show you Ready to take a ride? It's a- It's a good lookin' car, I tell ya! Comfortable? ... Comfortable? Yeah! Yeah. Ah! So far it's a beautiful car! Whatever I - Whatever I see. This controls the whole car. Ohh! There's there's there's no dials. Did you notice that? So what - wh - what what do you do with it? What this Burma(?) road? That's where we are now! Tells you whe- (laughs) OH! I didn't know that! Everything is controlled through here, so let's say I want to turn the air conditioning lower, I just touched the screen there. If I want to turn on your seat warmer I just touch here and your seat will start to heat up. I'm ready! Here we go. Before we go any further... does it make any noise? Yeah! It's a pleasure! You put your foot on it. You start the motor. Right. Then you use the peddle and you go ahead? Right. So is that what you - what you don't have? Well, it - what I'm trying to say is that there's instant Power. I know what you said. Yeah. But I I don't see where I don't have this power. Ready? I'm listening. Oh boy! Ha Ha! (Both laughing) When I say instant, it's very powerful! Yeah, you gotta have a parachute to drive this car! That thing, you know, it'd be up in the air! Yeah. (floors it) Woah! What do you do that? You just put your foot in the pedal? Yeah. It's it's instant. That's all it is, eh? Instant. It gets so strong that in - that the It it moves your body back into the chair! Yeah. Like falling out of an airplane! (laughing) No hands, eh? And it's driving by itself? Yeah. How do you know it's driving by it - how do you know it's, they got that Ok you're sitting in (neutral?). Is there anything inside that Yeah, it's showing me on my screen that it's in - that it's automatic. Oh that? I see your count now. You gotta get me credit. I must be very clever. I know how to get out That's - That's coming - That's the electricity. This is my charger. And what you do to charge the car every night. I take this out. It's a big plug. So it's electric? It's an electric plug. That's what I mean. Watch this Done. You go upstairs and leave it like that? Just leave it like that and it charges. You go to bed? Yep yep! Get the future a - Gimme a picture of what's gonna be in a hundred years. So you know it still has 354 kilometers? Yeah. That's the battery. You can do that any time just that press? Oh Yeah. Sure. Boy ! Lots of space. That's trunk number two. That's right too. They call it the "Frunk" There's no engine! That's right. I didn't know how to do that. I just... touched it! Amazing! Ok sweetheart. Take care of yourself. Ok, ready to head home? Ok. Here we go. Zev, I have... I - I - I haven't had an experience like this in my life! I don't remember ever seeing such... forward looking things! That's what they are. They look like a century from now. It's the future! That's the future, yeah. Don't ask me if I like the future. (laughing) Okay, Zev, thanks for the treat! Thank you! No, I mean it! I thought we'd just have a little chat, but I can't even. I - I I don't know how to word it! I'm just flab - I just - Overtaken! Well I can't believe I just had my 97-year-old grandfather in my car He... was absolutely speechless at the end. And uh... It was fun to give him a little glimpse of the future.
Once we get close to 100 years old, we will be the same way when we see the crazy shit in the future
What a sweet old man.
This man was born ONLY twelve years after the model T was mass produced. As an lover of automobiles I canβt imagine the joy of seeing the evolution of the machines. Also, it was fantastic to see his joy and loved watching the wheels turn in his head taking it all in!
This makes me wonder what mind-blowing thing I'll marvel at when I'm (hopefully) 97 years old.
He doesn't look a day past 96
This grandpa is one cool dude
He looks and sounds like Mel Blanc.
What a nice guy. If this were my parents, I think the conversation would've been more like "You idiot, it cost how much, it can only go how far?" I how we have enough bills paid off by the time our family car dies, that I can buy my wife one of these.
I enjoyed this one, but one random thing I have to ask - am I the only one who hates touch interfaces for things like this? It's slower, less precise, and way harder to do without looking at it - exactly what I don't want when driving. Didn't realize Tesla had gone down that route.
