approach the throne of grace one more time this evening we do come with grateful hearts we appreciate your goodness we appreciate the great plan of redemption how you called after us when we were lost in sin and undone how you restored us lord to what you would have us to be and help us god to have a determination to continue in this good way we thank you for this service so far tonight and we anticipate the blessings that are yet to come continue to be with us as we hear the testimonies and the music and the word of god and then gather around the place of prayer we pray that you'll hear from heaven and answer according to your perfect will and when you do lord we'll give you the glory for for we do come and ask in jesus name amen thank you again for coming out this evening or tuning our way lord willing we'd like to invite you back again this coming friday at 7 30 for our friday evening service also we have a school a full schedule of services for sunday beginning at 9 45 sunday school our 11 o'clock morning service and our six o'clock evening service also saturday the 18th this saturday we will have our youth focus that will be at six o'clock in the evening in the fellowship lodge so if you are eighth grade and older and you like to join us please feel free to do that we'll have a great time together that's this saturday at six o'clock also if you want to be planning ahead for the following month of october we do have a special combined meeting weekend that we plan to hold from october 8th to the 10th that is the second weekend of october my apologies for getting the information out a bit late we had some things to work out but it looks like that will be a very definite possibility so we will do that october 8th through the 10th brother alan lambert will be our guest minister from los angeles for that weekend and then also on that saturday which would be the 9th brother eric has some youth events planned for that saturday and a youth focus for that evening so we'll be praying about that help get the word out we'll be having more information as we get that together but let's be planning and praying for that weekend it's time for testimonies we'll have brother ray dickey open the testimony service for us we'll have him come to the mic in just a moment and then we'll have some other testimonies in between and some songs and then after a bit brother eric will direct us in that and then brother ray [Music] is [Music] jesus [Music] it's a privilege to be here tonight tell you what the lord has done for me he's been so good to me all of my life i was at my first camp meeting in 1950 i was six weeks old and my father had been killed the previous november to that and my mother had gotten saved between the time that my mother but that my father had passed away and i was born my mother got saved and i was born into that home and i can remember her telling me she would say i couldn't wait to get you kids to bed so i could open my bible and read it it was just the bible was so precious to her she actually had been raised in home with a godly grandparents and if she would say that her grandmother would often tell her you you shouldn't do that you shouldn't be doing that and so she had some knowledge of the gospel but she the devil had her um believing that this thing and that other thing she would tell me that she felt like if she could just get away from that home that strict home that she was raised in if she could just get away from that then then she would be happy and then he told her well if you could just get married that then you would be happy and then if you could just have children then you would be happy and she had all of those things but it didn't satisfy it didn't bring her home was unhappy she had married uh not a christian man my father was not a christian man so the home was very unhappy it was very different than what she was used to and and so but my father was killed and then immediately after that she turned to the lord and i was at camp meeting that year for the first time but serving the lord was the most important thing to my parents they they wanted to be one of the one of those that served the lord that was really faithful to him and so they taught us that and so i had every opportunity to to serve the lord all of my life and and i did and i was saved when i was eight years old the first time and it was on a mother's day and uh sister alan preached that morning that mother's day morning and the lord just touched my heart and i remember going down the altar and the lord meeting me there eight years old lord met me there in a march away and we were going home in the car that morning and mom looks back in the back see where i was and she says the lord did something for you this morning and a few um maybe as a year or so ago brother cliff was looking through the or sister cheryl somebody was looking through the baptismal records and there was my name i was baptized i was nine years old by that time but that camp meeting i was nine years old and i was baptized and they have the record there the lord was i had every opportunity to serve the lord but i wish i could say i was always faithful i wasn't but about 30 years ago i was in a backslidden state wasn't serving the lord at all and but i was invited to come to church and so i came i didn't come to seek the lord i came because they were having something after church that involved my relatives so i agreed to come that night and i sat through that service and i i would i didn't come to get saved i didn't come to pray but as i sat through that service and the sermon ended and then the last prayer was being given and as i stood there the lord just broke me up and the tears began to go down my cheeks as i stood there i wasn't seeking the lord the lord called me that night and i knew it was the lord calling me and so at the end of that prayer what do you do you're standing there the tears are coming so i just dropped it where i was sitting there and i told the lord i can't do it i can't do it i felt like i'd tried to serve the lord and had been a failure and i told the lord i can't do it i can't do it but the lord just kept calling he just kept calling that sweet call and i knew what that was i finally told the lord if you will help me i will try to serve you and it was like that was all he asked and he did something wonderful for me i can remember you know it's wonderful when the lord comes in and does something for you and you know about it and i knew that next morning i woke up and i can remember thinking i'm saved i'm saved you know and that's been almost 30 years ago now but the lord is still with me i can say uh something recent well several things actually january 25th first of this year i took a fall off a ladder and i had a major concussion on my head and broke my c1 in two places and uh i was home alone working there on the house when i fell and i actually had woke up on the ground just the mercy of the lord i don't remember falling but i remember waking up on the ground and being kind of surprised that i could get up i don't know why i felt that way but but i was able to stand up and got up and walked into the house i didn't know all the damage that had been done at that time and so eventually my wife came home and i was sitting at the bar there and i was holding paper towels against my head it was bleeding and so i told her i said i'm i'm bleeding and she she says i don't remember this but she told me i i said i'm going to call 9-1-1 and she says i told her don't do that i don't remember telling her that but so she didn't and i walked outside and got into my car and she drove me down about a mile down to the local hospital and she pulls up to the curb and i open the door walked into the hospital and of course then they ushered me right in and saw the damage that had been done and i actually had crushed my skull to the point where pieces of the skull had broken off on the inside and were resting on my brain and i had broken my c1 in two different places so of course they i don't remember anything after that until i woke up in the trauma center up here in portland but through all of that you know i feel like i feel more sorry for the people around me than for me i mean i i didn't you know it was a couple days later and they had done surgery on my brain and and uh i began to wake up they're in the hospital a couple days later and and the nurses would come in and they'd look at me and i guess they saw that the lights were finally on and they said to me oh you were you were out of it well i don't remember that but but i came too and and just the mercy of the lord i could have so easily been been killed in fact it's hard to explain how i broke my c1 in two places did that kind of damaged to my head and didn't sever that spinal column how do you do that but the lord didn't allow that to happen he's just he's with me and even these days and a few months ago my wife and i we decided that we would do something make a we decided to go a certain direction and so we began to make plans to go that direction and but we prayed and we asked the lord to lead us in that direction so we we had been looking to go a certain way and the answer came back no it didn't happen and so you know we still we had prayed and asked the lord to lead us and we just both felt like he's leading us that's what he's doing we did that two more times and the answer came back to see but it's not you might think well that's disappointing it wasn't disappointing we just felt like the lord was helping us we he was doing what we asked him to do he was leading us and we just rejoiced about it i can say serving the lord is wonderful and i praise him tonight [Music] oh [Music] listen i'm thankful tonight my wife and i are both so thankful that we were raised in christian homes where the gospel was taught to us from from our youth i hold in my hand here a statement that is registered with the state of iowa that i was born on september 15th at 8 40 a.m in the morning dr dillon notes on the bottom of the page that i was born alive but i thank god tonight that i have lived almost 85 years i will be tomorrow i jokingly tell people they say well you're pushing 90 what kind of exercise do you do i said when you're pushing 90 that's all the exercise you need but the lord has been good to me but under in a greater sense as you grow older people hope for good health but in my life i thank god for spiritual health i thank god that i had a witness in my heart god's spirit bore witness with ice my spirit on tuesday i was born on tuesday but on a tuesday night i was born again and i had a witness in my heart physically i appear to be well and i have good health physically but i'm more concerned these days about my spiritual health someone has said that one of the definitions of life is correspondence with the environment with my eyes i see with my ears i hear with my hands i feel and when those senses no longer operate then i'm merely a corpse i'm not there yet but i thank god tonight in a spiritual sense i can measure where i am spiritually by the spiritual environment of the bible i'm very much interested because the bible says though our outward man perisheth the inward man is renewed day by day i jokingly tell people how you're doing brother nolan i tell him if it was any better i couldn't stand it but what do you do with the joy that is unspeakable a love that passeth knowledge and a peace that passeth all understanding those things are very real to me only those people who have an opportunity to be around my wife and i in our home would understand what two people who have been married for 65 years joan was saved in 1948 i was saved in 1953 to see two people in the bosom of their home rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory to have a love that passeth knowledge and to have a peace that passeth all understanding that's where i am today i try to compare myself with the court with the environment of the bible it says to those that look for his appearing will he appear to those that love his appearance will he appear i find myself also saying with david he was glad when they said let us go up to the house the lord i can say i correspond with that environment tonight i'm glad physically i feel fine but spiritually i'm riding upon the high places of the earth i'm not exaggerating this gospel is real the bible says the gates of hell will not prevail against it my wife and i have had a huge opportunity to trust the lord and i want to tell you signs and wonders are still following the preaching of this word the gates of hell cannot prevail against it this gospel is real i want people to know that i have a spiritual checkup every time i come to the church and if the if the doctor says you need more i go down to the altar and i pray hard that the lord will keep me in the middle of his will thank god tonight for this wonderful gospel [Music] hard circumstances may haunt you play in the game which way to turn realizing right and wrong both want you this my friend the lesson i have learned there is always enough of god's mercy always enough of his love when your will has run dry he will supply when the road gets long and rough there is always enough everyone around you thinks you're perfect you always know exactly what to say but now the tables are turned and you're the one that's hurting you're afraid to give your heart away [Music] but i know a place of consolation [Applause] where mercy is extended fresh and new nothing is impossible with our father his mercy love and grace will see you through there is always enough of god's mercy [Music] always enough of his love [Music] when your well has run dry he will supply when the road gets long and rough there is always enough when the road gets long and rough there is always enough [Music] let's take our text tonight from colossians chapter three and read verse one two and three colossian three one two and three if ye then be risen with christ seek those things which are above where christ where christ sit on the right hand of god set your affection on things above not on things on the earth for ye are dead and your life is hid with christ in god yeah a few months back you know when brother dave asked me to preach um i went into collation first because uh christie and i was discussing some topic there was some people were discussing you know within the church that sometimes people feel that they were restricted confined there's no freedom and no freedom in christ because you know some people they were using collation uh as a you know quoting collational if freedom in christ of course in the wrong context that they were talking discussing that uh freedom to do whatever they want to do so you know the lord lead me to study galatian and because i did bad on a test when i was in college in the book of galatians so might as well try to make up for that and um so you know when i study that and again what i got out of it if you remember was it's uh freedom in christ was the freedom to do what we ought to do in christ to glorify jesus christ not the freedom to do what we want to do when we want to do it or how we want to do it or to you know live our life or have the gospel live the gospel let the gospel adjust to our life instead of just our lifestyle to the gospel of jesus christ of course then went to philippian which was about uh christ is our glorious treasure and then philippian a few weeks ago a couple weeks ago which is as a servant of jesus christ it's a joy to serve god it is yeah the joy of our salvation and christ is the true ultimate joy of our life and colossians here paul is mainly it's a it's about the preeminence of christ it's about uh the trinity god in one god the father god the son god the holy spirit and it's uh amazing you know uh just a background uh appalled in now i started the church in colossians it's just a small country church it was uh started by somebody who got saved in ephesus and then took it to home his hometown and shared the gospel started a home meeting and then it be you know become a church but it's a thing we're going there happening there enough that paul noticed it and want to write and again to encourage and uh to teach the saints there and and the main purpose of that uh his letter to the colossians was to address some fault teaching that was creeping into the church at that time and it was the first stage of a gnosticism which was a combination of eastern religion and jewish legalism and just greek uh mythology all-knowing so you have to know everything to be safe again there's just a bunch of teaching combined trying to um creep into the church there's no different now there's a lot of teaching a lot of ideology that is creeping into the church yeah everywhere and that's why we have to study we have to read pray for guidance for god's wisdom to know what's right what's wrong and what is true doctrine and that who jesus christ is jesus christ is the ultimate authority you know in our life so my question tonight is what is creeping in to your lives to our lives to my life you know is there you know sometimes it doesn't take a lot is there anger or just even yeah it doesn't have to be full anger angry you know sometimes when somebody says something or somebody do something to annoy you the anger start to creep in to our lives if we don't check it if we don't allow god to work in it it will become something bigger it will fester in your heart and it will become an obstacle in your life what about animosity between friends or family yeah again it would just start with a simple misunderstanding but it could become something big it could become something that will destroy the family dynamic the relationship in that family i have a good example personal back many many years ago maybe during college i think i believe my sister said something to me i don't remember what it is you know uh i didn't talk to her for a year and you know again when i think about it when i pray you know before i receive my identification i said you know i don't know what it is that i'm mad at her for or that you know i need to forgive her for that and i did then you know it was a burden lifted off and that uh that little just offense whatever she did how i took it it cost a whole year relationship without you know fellowship or uh whatever thing that can happen lost time that you can never gain back so is there anything something like that in your life that's creeping into that you know that can become a huge huge burden obstacle or break the family dynamic or break the family relationship um what else what about religion now you don't think that uh uh you're listening to any other religion of all another religion but you know what there is a lot of thing that being taught to our children in school that they don't want to call religion but it is religion they're trying to tell our kid that you know if you're a certain group you have to say you're sorry for whatever done many hundreds of years ago and if you're another group you need to have be in power to you know to do whatever you you need to be you know lift it up put on a pedestal and that's just heart watch you know i'm in a certain group what do i do how should i feel you know what the only thing that they're oppressed with they need to recognize their sin sin is the thing that oppressed all of us everybody in this entire world as soon as they recognize that they would be better off they would know who their true god is but as soon as you're using your excuse any excuse they're trying to to you know force somebody to believe beside the one true god it's just gonna fail and you have to be careful and check yourself you have to ask your children you have to teach your children you have to have that discussion or else your children is going to fall into that trap and fall into that lie and look at what happened to adam and eve i mean it didn't start like oh you know i want to know everything i i'm all that but it all started with just one conversation with the devil and soon the devil was able to convince them that you know what you are god you know if you eat this fruit you can become like god that's what the world that's what our culture is trying to do to our children to us they're trying to use our children to get to us but if we're not careful if we don't study god's word if we don't pray we will fall into that trap we will i can guarantee you that because i seen it happen and it is happening so that's what paul was trying to do that uh yeah they were trying to teach that hey jesus is not god he's just another man he's an angel he whatever else but paul reminded them that you know jesus is the ultimate authority jesus is the preeminence of everything how about one other thing anything what's creeping into your home you know uh i speak of this many times like uh there was a time that yeah we didn't like to come to tuesday night services or friday night services because of one excuse one reason or another like you know maybe because we're too tired it's a lame excuse or maybe we have a tv show that's coming on that certain hour that we have to be or a sport event those are kind of lame excuses if jesus is your priority if jesus is preeminent in your life there's no reason that you shouldn't be at tuesday night service or friday night service you know why i can understand there's work there's a certain event sickness whatever but if you can make it this blessing i'm already blessed just to hear brother ray and brother nolan testimony i mean that alone we should just end the service after brother nolan testify and sing a song and come out to prayer i mean that's just encouragement enough but again it's important what is creeping into your home if you don't check if you don't pray if you don't ask the lord to open your eyes your heart it might be [Music] too late when these things that can disrupt your life with jesus christ how you know again i mentioned already what's creeping into our churches too and we can't just succumb to every things that's out there that's trying to be uh indoctrinated into our uh family here yeah our faith in jesus christ should transform our relationship with uh in every area of our life like our homes our job our churches and our world you know what i mean that by that is like in our home in our lives it's easy to be you know hate to be that perfect christian when we come to church it's easy to be friendly it's great it's nice to talk to your kid with a smile you know a good job or hold their hand but when you get home when you get home yes those kids can be wild and you know a lot of time kids teenager they always think they're right and they think they know him better than you sometime i just told christie yeah i can't argue with them there's five of them i can't win you know but i'll pray for them but you know it's just not how we talk here but at home if i the way i act and communicate with him with them here at church is different at home they will know that i'm living a lie i have to live the life that jesus wants me to live it doesn't matter if it's a home or a church or how i communicate with my wife or how you communicate with your spouse it has to be that as of christ first in our lives how he would talk to us if jesus christ was there you know there's i'm learning i'm thankful that god gave me a tender heart to learn to make to learn from my mistake to learn from my errors of my way and then i'm thankful for that that he is so merciful and so forgiving that i can grow in him to be a better person each day and work does christ transform our relationship at work you know that's a tough one if you're a boss you know sometimes you have authority you have power do you communicate with those under you as if christ was there in loving way yes i can understand this frustration and stuff like that is there any reason why you can't communicate with that person or your employee as you would if christ was the director of your life how about if you're an employee you have a boss if the boss tell you to do something or within the means within the policy or whatever do you always trying to justify and vindicate in everything you do or that you're right ask the lord about that we are called like this i like that song higher ground we are called to stand on higher ground as christian if christ is in our life if he is the preeminent in our life we are called to be on higher ground you know paul encourages the colossians saint not the compromise and we shouldn't compromise in anything in anything we do despite facing pressures from the culture around us from family from friend that are not safe from things that's going on right now the crazy stuff we shouldn't compromise jesus christ come first yeah you know paul encouraged them to live out their faith and again we should live out our faith in everything we do and everything we say again he remind them christ is the visible image of the invisible god and we have to believe that we have to know that because he is he is the full deity you know of god yeah i i love this worship when i you know every time when i uh going through some challenging time a challenging situation colossians 1 16 17 it says for by him were all things created that are in heaven that are in earth in earth visible and invisible whether they be thrones or dominions or principality or power all things were created by him and for him and his before all thing and by him all thing consists right there if anybody want to argue it says yeah christ is god take him to that verse or john 1 1. i mean how what what else there need to be argue about or complain or doubt about you know we have been raised in christ therefore we live in him and our quality should be motivated by christ's love yeah he is lord over all the life that we have is the life submission to christ and that's what i'm trying to get across tonight and you know all of you here know and understand that and um it's through christ that we see the characteristic of god you know our our reliance on as a christian should be christ alone not human rules regulation or anything else i know there's a lot of things out there to that but it should be on christ alone you know hey our life in christ is to pursue holiness because god is holy that should be the only that is the only reason because he is holy so you know um tonight if christ is not our focus something else will be yeah i was gonna bring a binocular but yeah in a rush we forgot when you get to my age you'll see you know a lot of time when we go on trip on hikes and stuff like that i like to bring the binocular but most of the time i forget it tried to live in a car but you know we focused that thing to see something far to see something clear again if christ is not our focus if we don't have our focus in christ at all time something else is going to come into our view and take away from that focus in christ and it will just be a little bit at a time soon you will be out of range soon it will become too blurry that you forgot what was going on you don't realize what just happened what happened again take just a little bit a little step at a time you know here's one of my other favorite verse says colossians 3 16-17 let the word of christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and in hymns and spiritual songs singing with grace in your heart to the lord and whatever ye do in word or deed do it all in the name of the lord jesus giving thanks to god and in father by him that's the verse that helped me carry me through many many of the situation many many of uh challenges you know at work home or anywhere if i remind i remind myself not if i have to remind myself everything i do is do unto the lord if i do it for somebody i most likely won't want to do it if i do on my for myself probably wouldn't if i do it for you know this or that or work or whatever i most likely wouldn't want to but i do it unto the lord i do it for the to glorify his name to glorify him you know not for any other reason but if that is our focus we will keep on going will we keep on strong you know um if christ is supreme in our life nothing else should distract us from him if we let anything else we must not let anything else come between us and glorifying god see i'll close with this um i read a story leonardo da vinci yeah famous renaissance person uh regarding he took a friend to criticize his masterpiece the lord's supper you know he he wants his friend to just say give an opinion of that he asked his friend what is the most striking thing about this painting and his friend look and for a while observed and it said you know the thing that stick out the most to me in this painting is the cup of christ so he took a paintbrush and just painted over that cup erase it out because he said and his friend asked him why did you do that i said he said i do not want anything to take away from my lord as the center of attention is there anything in your life right now that is taking christ the attention away from christ from you glorifying christ to you to live as a a walking testimony for jesus christ if it is take that paint brush and wipe it out or give it to the lord erase it because our life should be in christ christ is the preeminence in us nothing else matter as you hear in the testimony you know that is an awesome awesome testimony tonight i mean just like christ is i mean wouldn't what i would love to be many years from now to say that testimony that i live so many years serving the lord and christ still reign in my life and i pray and hope that he does and i pray and hope that my children you know live in christ that christ is the main focal point in their life and in everything they do so again asking you if you're not saved you need to be safe because christ needs to be the main focus in your life he need to be the preeminence in your life because the world needs help the world is not going to save itself they think it will but only jesus christ can save the world and if you need your deeper experiences god can give that to you so again what is first in your life if christ is not first in your life he needs to be because only him only in him that he can provide us the strength and the power to to be you know a walking testimony for him so again we invite you to pray in every service and the song for invitation is 653.
