resurrected sacrifice [Music] oh [Music] happy morning hallelujah [Music] [Music] i'm glad to be here tonight to give an overdue praise report for the lord i should have done this a long time ago but anyway the lord saved me and sanctified me and i'm praying for the baptism of the holy ghost and i've received a lot of prayers from the saints around here lately and i just want to give everybody a thank you and praise for for the helpful prayers but i just want to say that the lord changed my life and changed my heart and my heart's desires lord to serve him and and uh i was never happy without serving him i was a very miserable person because i was brought up in this gospel since i was five by a very godly mother who taught us the right way to go from the very beginning when we were children so i always knew about the gospel and i remember when i was 16 years old one night i was so miserable i turned my face to the wall and i put a pillow over my face and i just screamed into my pillow and i said lord i said make me just miserable until i come back to you and he did i could never be happy with the things of the world i could never be happy when i went out with friends maybe they wanted to go to a club or something and i'd get in there and i'd feel so condemned and i would just run out and i would just leave and so even though i i did get saved and i unfortunately did backslide the lord is so merciful i am so thankful to him for what he's done for me and he's been so good to carry me through some very deep waters i recently well not somewhere recently but a year or so ago i lost my mother and she was the great great stabilizer of our family and it felt like my foundation had been just pulled out from underneath me but you know and i i wound up i had been living with her but i wound up going into an apartment and for a while there i just took me probably almost a year to get used to being alone and i felt alone but then i realized you know god's with me and the holy spirit is supposed to be alongside of me every day and everything that i do and so i started exercising faith and praying more and god has strengthened me and really change what i thought was a mistake about where i lived into a blessing he's caused things to happen that couldn't have happened had i not lived there but um i do want to say a praise report for the lord the other day i was i had a heavy food box i went to get a food box and i couldn't take it up the stairs to my apartment and i i said oh lord what am i going to do i said i can't lift this up there by myself i don't want to make 13 trips up upstairs send somebody to help me and i pray that and then i stopped and i looked up at this guy and i said god do you really hear me do you really hear and do you really care about every little thing in my life and there was nobody around that uh the air was silent there was no cars no trucks no people and then all of a sudden right around the corner came roaring up this this lady in a car and she pulled up next to my car and she looked at me and smiled and i looked at her and smiled and she got out and she says do you need help i said yes i said yes i do need help i said you're an answer to prayer so god not only showed me that he cares about little things in our life but he cares about big things too but that woman she was very stout and very strong and she just lifted that box up those stairs for me and carried it right into my apartment for me and it may sound like a little thing but it's not because it just reinforced my faith in god that he hears every prayer he hears every little cry every little whimper every little every little heart sob and he is faithful and good and in uh he has uh changed my life dramatically and and he has helped me so much and i just give him praise and i hope to be ready for him when he comes i want to be ready for the rapture and that's what i'm praying for [Music] i want to praise god tonight for what he's done for me and all these years that he's allowed me to be his servant you know he took an old drunken mailman and led him out to a place where he could hear the word of god and people prayed and i got saved on february 7th 1978. you know last week i testified about my brother being saved you know the night i prayed with him and he said i've got it then he looked at me the rest of the story is he looked at me and he said you know he says i'm in a lot of pain he says you think god can give me a good night's rest i said well let's ask it so we prayed about 15 minutes and he was sound asleep the next morning i went out and his daughter said what did you do to my dad i said why he said he hadn't had any pain in my education all night long he lived another few days i don't remember how many but he was on a minimum of pain medication from that point on and he every time i'd see him he say praise god thank you thank god thank god you know it's wonderful to serve a god that hears and answers our prayers and i just praise him tonight [Music] [Music] sometimes i wonder how long it takes to prove something well 52 years ago or so i got saved now well after over 50 years that should be long enough to prove that it's real and i can say it is it is really real before that time i can remember wishing i was saved wanting to be saved i knew about heaven and i knew about hell i didn't want to go there but i can remember my mom trying to get us money and my younger brother to pray and i always go off do something else and did things i should not have done and i wasn't proud of it when i joined the navy we got overseas and i thought well now i do anything i want to do it doesn't really work that way but anyway i did a lot of things i shouldn't have done and then i got a hold of me and i got out of the navy and got a job back in town working and it just seemed like well it didn't seem like it i knew my life was going downhill and i did not like what was happening and a young man from this church invited me to a young people's meeting and i can remember going and hearing those young people jump up and thank the lord for what he'd done for them and thank the lord that they were saved and and on and on like that i thought well you know i don't have that i don't have what i need and it's just a short time after that i went up to a little church service at that church service i was at and i heard all that and then i was at home and i can remember i was got off work at midnight and spent the next hour too at the tavern and and then after that when i got home i was laying in bed and i thought you know this isn't working it's just this life is not working i know it's not and i i prayed laying right there in bed i prayed i asked god to come into my heart make a change i promised him if he would make a change i'd live for him the rest of my life and like i say it's been over 50 years and it's been a good thing i remember when i started going to church there in in chehalis i remember brother jerry maycomber and his testimonies he would say that he wanted to know so salvation not a hope so and i thought that's exactly where i had been i wanted to know so and not a hope so and i can say after 50 years i can say it's a no-so [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] save for the night you're [Music] was stormy and cold the shepherd when counting the more one sheep is missing there should be one more the shepherd went out to search for his sheep and through the night on the rocky steep he saw till he found him with [Music] she [Music] [Music] [Music] still the good shepherd sought long for his sheep [Music] shepherd went out to search for his sheep and all through the night on the rocket steep he saw till he found him with love bands he burned him [Music] sheep [Music] there in the night he heard a cry from the lost sheep just ready to die then in his arms to shield from the cold he brought the lost one safe back to the the shepherd went out to search for his sheep and all through the night on the rocky steep he saw till he found him with love [Music] sheep [Music] we'll read this evening from first kings chapter 20. we'll first look at verse 23. first kings 20 23 it says and the servants of the king of syria said unto him that has been hey dad their gods are gods of the hills therefore they were stronger than we but let us fight against them in the plane and surely we shall be stronger than they and then verse 28 of that same chapter and there came a man of god and spake unto the king of israel and said thus saith the lord because the syrians have said the lord is god of the hills but he is not god of the valleys therefore i will deliver all this great multitude into thine hand and ye shall know that i am the lord god is a god of the hills and he is a god of the valleys this chapter falls if it's in chronological order shortly after elijah's victories and his anointing or a call of elisha i don't read here that the man of god that came in chapter 20 was either elijah or elisha so it does not really identify him but we understand that ben haddad the leader of the syrians laid siege in in samaria where ahab was we don't think too much good about ahab do we i've always wondered sometimes we pick bible names for our children never i knew a man that had a horse named ahab i've never known anybody that named anything jezebel certainly so we don't read much good about about ahab but the lord loves his people and in spite sometimes in bible times in spite of their leadership going astray and even the people going astray god is not going to let his name be dishonored here it says that they laid siege and and ben haddad made made demands they outnumbered the children of israel he sent messengers and and said the silver and their gold is mine your wives also and thy children even the good lists are mine and it seems that ahab agreed to those terms and when he sent back agreement for his messengers then ben and dad made other demands and said i'm going to send my i'm paraphrasing now uh my people in and we're going to look over everything that you have and we're going to take everything that we want and ahab decided that was too much he'd gone too far but it says there came a prophet in verse 13 of this chapter unto ahab king of israel saying thus saith the lord hast thou seen all this great multitude be old i will delivered into thy hand this day and thou shalt know that i am the lord and in fact there is a battle ben haddad had says had drank himself drunk and his men but he must have been that confident in victory but they came up against samaria and god's people defeated them miserably and they won a great victory but then a prophet came and told ahab by the turn of the year return of the year the king of syria will come up against you again and that's where the 23rd verse comes in where the servants of the king of syria said well you know the israel israel's god is a god of the hills so let's let's take them down into the valley and there we will defeat them i've i've been and many perhaps have i've seen some of the fortresses and castles especially in eastern europe they're all built up in up in the mountain up up on top of a hill i i suppose that naturally that's a better defense you can look down and see the enemy coming from all directions so it makes sense that that would be a battle that more easily won perhaps and and so uh it perhaps it was a good battle plan i've not read uh too many military books but it seemed like it would have been a good battle plan but but since they were defeated then let's let's let's go down in the valley and let's let's uh go after them there and we can win this battle but it says and it gives the number of the armies it was a greater army than than before that they went down and uh and then it's it it comes into that 28th verse where it says the lord god is a god of the hills but he is not a god of the valleys therefore i will deliver all this great multitude into thine hand and ye shall know that i am the lord and it says and they pitched one over against the other seven days and so it was that the seventh day the battle was joined and the children of israel slew the syrians a hundred thousand footmen in one day the great victory that they had won in the hills was overshadowed by the greater victory they won in the valley well the old testament is full of battles we read paul paul said in second corinthians chapter 10 for though we walk in the flesh we do not war after the flesh for the weapons of our warfare are not carnal or or physical but mighty through god to the pulling down of strongholds casting down imaginations and everything that exalteth itself against the knowledge of god and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of christ he also says paul does that we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities and against powers against the rules of the darkness of this world against spiritual wickedness in high places wherefore take unto you the whole armor of god that ye may be able to withstand the evil day and having done all to stand so we're admonished and encouraged to take these spiritual uh implements of this uh of of armor so that we can stand but the fact is god's a god of the hills and of the valleys think we we talk sometimes around here about mountaintop experiences we we heard some testify this evening about being born again well that's that's a mountaintop experience why when the lord comes into our hearts and and we're changed and i've known many people that said they they left the church that evening or that morning if they felt like they could walk on air mine was a little bit different than that i knew i was saved i knew my sins were forgiven i can't say that angels sang from heaven or anything like that but but it was a mountaintop experience i i can say that when the lord sanctified me i was praying in an altar in roseburg and uh had consecrated dedicated sanctified myself in that sense that i had set myself apart consecrated every aspect of my life lord i'll serve you i'll do whatever you you want me to do and and and and that's our part but i remember god coming down and it was it was like something burned inside of my chest and then i it was it was though and i'm not a person that dreams dreams or sees visions but but this it felt like something left my body if i would have gone home and weighed myself i think i lost about 10 pounds it felt like the old nature of the sin nature was gone that was a mountaintop experience and the lord the lord is the god of mountains he's the god of the hills we receive the baptism of the holy spirit well that's a mountaintop experience but you know god god's a god of the valleys too why would the psalmist say yea though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death thou art with me well we praise god for the mountaintop experience but we praise god in the valley too because the victory there is going to be greater than the mountaintop experience imagine that jesus said that he was going to send the holy spirit and he said when you receive the holy spirit he says the things that i do greater things will you do because i go to the father greater things he he might have been speaking of the power that would come into our lives when we go through those those experiences in the valley what kinds of things you know we remember bible heroes why do we remember daniel he went into the lion's den didn't he he came out though didn't he why do we remember shadrach meshach and abednego because they went into the fiery furnace and when the king nebuchadnezzar looked in there he did not just see those three but he saw forth like unto the son of god because god is a god of the valley he's a god that goes into the furnace and i've always i've always been amazed in fact i would give credit i have several of my former pastors here and i remember sitting in a service in roseburg and brother randy baltell was my pastor and he and he talked about how they had greater freedom in the in the furnace than they had outside of it because their bonds were burned where they were burned off and they were walking free in there our god is a god of of the valley and he is the god of the fiery furnace and the victory there was greater than any that they had experienced and we remember them because they went into the furnace and came out free why do we remember paul and silas because they went into the prison didn't they because uh their backs were bleeding and their feet were fastened in the stalks and they were they were in the valley you can't get any deeper than that in the in the in the innermost part of the of the prison but at midnight what did they do well they felt sorry for each other didn't they no they didn't no they it says they prayed and they sang praises to god and and the prisoners heard them why what a prayer meeting that must have been down there in the prison and we we we get the advantage of knowing paul and silas didn't know what would happen but we know that there was a great earthquake and their bonds fell off of them and they were set free a great victory greater than any mountaintop experience but what kind of experiences do we go through that we might call valley experiences what about what about sickness we have a couple of saints in roseburg that are going through that valley right now uh great sickness what about great loss i i remember a time been several years ago but i remember i had incurred a debt and some of it was my own fault and some of it was because of a downturn in the economy but i remember looking at a debt and thinking i i'm never going to dig myself out of this and someone advised me they said you get yourself into debt kind of like you get yourself out of or get yourself out of it kind of like you got into it a little bit at a time i was looking for a quick fix or any fix frankly but i but i remember uh praying and agonizing over this well it's kind of too personal really to talk about in detail but the lord got me out and he told me don't ever do that again i i won't promise you i'm going to get you out the next time but sometimes we look at we look at loss financial sometimes we look at uh even mental health crisis that come upon us that take us down in the in the depths of despair sometimes there there's a great loss uh in a relationship or even a great loss of life someone dear to us as is tragically taken and it sends us into a valley of despair well we can thank god that he's a god of the valleys and the victory that he has for you and for me um is much greater uh when he brings us out and you know when when those mountaintop experiences it's easy to praise god it's easy to thank him and get up and testify and and uh say why the lord's been with me and he's given me great victory uh why those are mountaintop experiences but what is it like i i've known people that have stood to their feet and testified about how good god was and you found out later they were going through the worst time of their life but they determined that in the valley that their god was a god of the valley and they determined by praising god in the worst possible time that they would praise him and and thank him anyway and the lord brought them through so our god is a god of the hills yes he certainly is but he's also a god of the valleys we may find ourselves tonight going through the most difficult times of life young middle age elderly whatever our state of life is i i can say along with the psalmist i have been young and now i am old yet i have not seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed begging brad you know david had seen a lot of things hadn't he why he had he had been a shepherd boy the lion and the buried killed and the victory over goliath he had seen great victory he had seen great failure david had when he doubted god and when he was disobedient but yet he in all the things he said he says i i've seen everything in life but there's one thing i haven't seen i've never seen the righteous forsaken nor seed begging bread god is the god of the the hills god is the god of the valleys and if you're by all means if you're on top of it if god has blessed you beyond measure and you're on one of those mountaintops right now thank god and praise him tonight in prayer but if you're down in the valley praise god and thank him thank him for the valley because the victory is coming and the victory is going to be much greater much greater than any mountaintop experience you've ever had god will bring you out of the valley up to the mountaintop this evening evening as we sing a song of invitation you're invited to bow on your knees cry out to god and expect an answer this very evening [Music] oh [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] is oh [Music] salvation foreign [Music] [Music] heavenly father we're so thankful as we come to this time of prayer that we know that you are the god of the hills the god of the valleys whatever our need is as we come before you lord and in asking and and expecting lord that we can truly believe that we will receive this night as we come according to your will we pray lord that you would meet the need of each heart that you'd help each one of us lord to just be able to give you praise and worship and thanksgiving no matter where we're at for we know in that that we'll find victory blessed how we pray in jesus name amen [Music] [Music] [Music]
