80’s Flashback! This Knight Rider K.I.T.T. car has issues! What’s wrong with it? It's so REALISTIC!

how many of us remember Knight Rider from the 1980s today we're going to take a look at this replica Knight Rider car it's basically the Knight Rider car it is so cool let's get started [Music] so before we dive into kit here which is the name of the car and Knight Rider we have three things to talk about number one I've been giving a lot of comments and also some of my friends and family who are subscribers to this channel have said all of a sudden in the last month they've stopped getting notifications of new videos coming out let us know in the comments if that's you if some of you are and Thursday and have done so for years now so it's not like it's a secret what day it's going to come out but definitely let us know about that now let's move on to number two so many of you been following along we've been working on the Wonder Lodge we still have some updates coming along for that for another video we've actually got some parts ordered but in the meantime the 2006 Eldorado now everything works on it if somebody wants to take it to the next level or continue on with the RV conversion it would definitely be a good start I've had this for quite a while and I am going to get out of motorcycle riding because the arthritis in my lower back especially this year has taken it up another knot yes I'm actually on medication for arthritis now you are old I'm I am getting old based on that it is just not enjoyable for me to ride motorcycles anymore my legs go numb and it's just not fun this is my 2008 Harley Davidson Fat Boy with 48 000 miles on it and it runs and rides perfect even has Bluetooth speakers is in really really good shape out of a 10 which is a museum piece it's probably a seven but it is still very very nice it's for sale contact crazy D also in the office he'll get you all the information on this hello car wizard can I ask you a question um sure according to Paul my owner I am needing a full tune-up is that true uh well you know even the best cars need to check up from time to time so absolutely I put my life in your hands car wizard just like at the beginning of this video I told you guys this is kit Knight Rider show car it is a 1984 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am and it has been converted to a full-on Knight Rider kit car not a kit car like you buy a kit in the mail that was the name of the car kit the show ran from 1982 to 1986 it was actually Four Seasons long I remember watching it as a kid and although we look at some of the oretical technology that this car has today and kind of scoff at it like what Tesla can do all that but the thing is is back then it was utterly amazing we'll take a look around this car we're going to show you all the buttons all the features Mrs wizard will give you guys an interior tour take a look under the hood and we're going to go over the list of what is all wrong with this car even show cars need repairs and have things break have things need addressed and this one is no exception is an excellent shape but every car on Earth is going to need to be repaired at some point you can see the pulsing red light that was actually designed in the show to look like a heartbeat or something like that like kit is alive basically indicating the car has a soul or a human type features to it I actually dropped it an inch and a half for the show to give it a little bit lower stance you can see that they've had these black discs added to the wheels the turbine Wheels as per the show the paint is very nice on this one is in very good shape you can see that the keyholes are missing we'll show you here in a minute some interesting things this car can do now that it doesn't have key locks if you come around to the back you can see that the entire rear tail lamp assemblies all that is all blacked out it's one solid black piece this is a very well done movie show car I've actually worked on several show cars in the past some of them not so great this is definitely a great one it's a very well done car let's go ahead and get all the key fobs yes more than one it has multiple key fobs that do multiple things so originally this car would have never had a key fob and now it has four and they all do distinctively different things we'll start with this little key fob here it has three buttons I'm not sure what the third one does it might be the trunk but let's try number one it automatically opens the door for you so that kind of defeats the purpose of the key lock you can literally just push a button and open your door let's try number two and it did the passenger door this key fob is actually a security system a functioning security system you can set the alarm at a car show and if someone walks up to it kit will actually talk I'll go ahead and demonstrate that now go ahead and disable the security system but it will say things actually it could probably kind of scare people because they're not expecting it but it actually has a functioning security system and it speaks to you whenever you get too close to it so that's what that number two key fob does number three is a rear battery which is the main battery to run all the controls and things inside in the interior the final key fob has three little buttons I know two of them do something it's actually to do with this license plate so if you're at a car show you don't want your personal license plate being shown you just push this button here [Applause] and it says night California tag kind of like the show 1982 sticker on it even and you can go the other direction and also put it back the way it was [Applause] so pretty cool that's what all the key fobs do let's go ahead and hop under the hood oh it's just like the Corvette that's in the shop Crossfire yes it is the old Crossfire injection system that everyone hates in all reality is actually a pretty good system it's just throttle body injection a TBI just like on an 87 Chevy truck but it has two individual throttle bodies not a twin pod single throttle body they're not difficult to work on they're not hard they're not I don't know why all the gripes but they're not too bad we currently have the AC compressor off and some of the lines because it actually leaked out its refrigerant and that's one of the concerns that's going to be addressed while it's here one thing they did add here is actually the little red pulsating light that looks like a heartbeat here it's got little halogen bulbs I think in it one of the things we're going to be repairing is when you turn on the headlights only one headlight comes up and that's these little plastic actuators here so obviously under the hood is nothing fancy there's no magical technology or anything it's just 1980s General Motors Crossfire V8 nothing it's fancy or anything going on there let's go take a look at the compressor and the lines and then it's time for an interior tour the really fun part of this video you guys are going to really love it so when our good customer Paul is one of our favorite customers we have here while he was here showing me some of the features of the car we opened the hood and he was like the AC quit and I think the refrigerant leaked out I'm just not sure where and from all my years experience I immediately said it's the compressor these pancake compressors are notorious for leaking and sure enough when we looked at the seams around the body of the compressor it glows green just like a radioactive accident or something it's all the dye has come out it is leaked out around the body of the compressor it's just the way it is on these old pancake compressors any of these old GM vehicles with this style compressor you get two to four years out of a new one and they'll start leaking as well it's just the way it is I don't know if there's some upgrades that can be done to it I've never heard of any also the lines are currently at our guy that can rebuild pressure lines or hydraulic lines and things to upgrade the rubber portion of the hoses to barricade style rubber hoses that's made to hold in the refrigerant particles or molecules I should say a lot better than the old school rubber did so that's what's going on with the AC so I'll go ahead and turn on the rear battery we'll show you guys that here in a little bit I'll go ahead and get it turned on and then I'll go ahead and get the door for Mrs wizard because one of the issues on the complaint list is that doesn't work even though the interior door handle does work foreign there you go okay ladies gents so this is an interior view you're never going to forget because it is like you are actually sitting in the car just like you would be driving it there's no gauge cluster really there's there's a whole lot of front lights we're going to turn on in a second there's I have no clue what the mileage is on here maybe it'll say if you push one of these buttons but let's take a peek at what we have here we've got a few buttons over here we've got more buttons buttons buttons a screen more buttons and even more buttons and we're gonna go through and push a lot of these in just a second but let's go ahead and do our normal review you'll see up there that the dash is in of course great condition this is obviously never lives outside it's in pristine shape as we move over the door cards have a kind of a heavy fabric on them you just got the Trans Am Firebird emblem over there on that door card as we move over the everything the vinyl everything plastic is in perfect shape the seats are not stuck they do say PMD on them but they are very comfortable and they show zero wear we do have the actual steering wheel that would have been used in the show originally what the irony is is that we didn't see these again in cars really until Tesla decided to bring them back one thing that is of note is look at the back doesn't that look familiar like if you're changing out bits on a drill you can do a quick connect that's exactly what this is It's a quick connect that you can pull that ring down and it just snaps into place easy as can be the back seat yes I said back seat it is not very large but again it is background and it has a very large car cover which it probably should and it has one heck of a covering over that trunk area Okay ladies and gents this is going to be a hard to film one but let's go ahead and push the power button and watch this so it has everything has come to life we now have our really awesome gauge closure beeping and showing all sorts of readings even though the engine is not running so move over we can see all these different gauges um not so sure what any of them actually are actually showing correct information because I can't imagine why things are changing like the compressor temperature is going up and down up and down the top one so kind of interesting but everything lights up all these buttons are absolutely great one thing I didn't show here we go let's move up and more lights up here more buttons over there and I'm not so sure let's turn there we go I'm not so sure what this is doing I don't know why it's counting it kind of reminds me of that odometer we had in that Range Rover a long time ago so let's start over here and start pushing a few buttons so here is one that says PF one of them did the trunk there here's record let's see what record does nope Auto left roof do we want to pop the top here I'm sure [Music] so it's making that sound and it didn't actually open the T-tops well thank you kit foreign gives you a blast of the horn eject L ooh and notice that it bolts just a little bit because that has opened the door so that's kind of a you can open the door through the key fob you can open it from this handle you can open it from this button but you cannot open it from the handle so obviously Wizard's got some work on there micro Jam other than making a very fun sound from an old telephone not so sure so let's try this side license plates I'm not going to push this one you we saw do the controls a second ago it does actually move those license plates around in the back but just that's what that one does there we go we're going to not do turbo boost very long because that music was copyrighted and I'd love to keep going on with this video and not have it pulled it says button 13 Even though it says 8pl1 and again the roof is going apparently but not really it's not doing anything definitely sounds like we're downloading a phone from the 80s and again if I push this one it will actually open up that car door on the passenger side so I'm not going to actually do that these are actually really fun obviously you can tell I've been in here for a second I have played with some of the buttons but these are some really fun too something tells me you shouldn't touch turbo boost absolutely providing you'll promise me one thing please do not refer to me as a couple more a set of wheels it's most demeaning I'm the Knight Industries 2000. Boys called me kid I've definitely got some good clips from the show on these buttons oh no wonder where Michael is so again we could push all those but you guys can watch the show if you want to see what more of those are up and down what do you think up and down does dear try it it did nothing these are just little toggle up and down buttons they're not doing anything but they do say I'm going to turn my light off maybe that'll help no they're not doing anything but they are awfully fun to just sit and push we have it in auto mode and we go up to here it's very hard to see because it is awfully bright light it says Auto Cruise right here if we come over here and push Norm no we're not getting the guy from cheers no no this says normal cruise I know it's kind of blowing out because the computer's green or the screen on the camera but it does say normal Cruise and we hit the last button Pursuit and there we go it does say Pursuit there so it does change the mode obviously it doesn't change anything under the hood because that doesn't actually change anything I mean this thing is amazing there's so many lights and they're all just this would be a distraction I think to drive so maybe when you're driving we would push the power off button and turn everything off and kid has gone to sleep I love other things though to take note is if you notice that there's the normal Dash is not here because all of the kit controls and lights and buttons are all flashing in there but one thing we can see way back there is there is the radio and above that is your HVAC controls so they are back there they are hidden and they are standard GM products back there you can also see a few other controls hiding behind the steering wheel way way way back there and we can see there's some controls here that we have our normal stock for changing our windshield wipers and turn signals and things like that and there's also the controls for the headlights to be off and on as well so I really hope you are absolutely impressed with this interior I know I am this has been a blast pushing all these buttons but let's get back to see what the wizard has to say about this so to run all those fancy buttons in the kit system they don't run that off of the main battery that's for the engine because if you were to kill it then you can't go anywhere you're stuck there's actually a different battery in the trunk let's go ahead and take a look at that here we can see the company that actually did the conversion night industries of Kentucky there's some external speakers an amplifier a bunch of relays some wiring different things like that then we have the actual battery that powers the kit system which is in the trunk so whenever I hit the key fob to turn kit on or off it's actually turning on and off that battery not the main battery for the engine it's very interesting how they did this like I mentioned it's done very well so we'll go over the list of things are actually wrong with kit and there's actually quite a list quite a numerous bunch of things but they're all little things luckily so here's the list here the driver's headlight motor which we mentioned it doesn't raise and lower it needs to have the actuator looked at it could be stripped gears could be a bad motor a stuck motor we'll check into that there's a fog light there's a series of fog lights up front underneath one of them is burned out we'll see if we can replace that for them the AC compressor and hoses like we just mentioned that needs to be addressed and it currently is there is a lifter tick when this thing is running it could be just one of the rocker arms need to be adjusted or it could be a lifter it's not a major teardown to get to on these it's not a big deal so we'll definitely take a look at that he mentioned spark knock under acceleration it could be that just the distributor needs to be re-timed and that's definitely something we can take care of here the external handle for the driver's side is in op like we showed from the outside of the driver's door you cannot open it the passenger side window whenever you lower it all the way down it's actually catching on a bolt or catching on something we need to take the door panel off and and fix it because it will come back up but it makes a really loud pop that's very kind of concerning so there's actually some other things a few other things he sent an email he added to this list but they're nothing again they're nothing serious one of them is the seat belt whenever you go to retract it it won't go all the way back in we'll have to take that apart and take a look at that and a few other small items nothing serious Paul's been bringing us several vehicles for quite some time you guys have seen mercur xr4ti America Scorpio and so I don't know I think there's some others he's brought all the way from Michigan so definitely happy to look at the kit car for him while I was here I definitely want to do a video let you guys explore a replica Knight Rider car I remember as a kid just watching it and being in awe it's like that would be so cool to have a car that could do all those things obviously they can't really do all those things but how they converted it how it looks just like the the show they really did a good job on this one I'm glad you guys could follow along and check it out with us we'll get a list together on all these things that are wrong get a price and see what he wants to do or what he doesn't want to do we already have kind of the okay on the AC
