should you buy a Hyundai Santa Fe danielson's going to tell you today hell no let's get [Music] started this is a 2012 Hyundai Santa Fe and it is owned by Daniel Sun we'll get him over here here in a minute and talk about all the problems he's had with it which it's been nothing but problems it's been his in his words it's been a terrible vehicle I've actually gotten questions from fans and stuff hey I'm looking at a Hyundai Santa Fe looking at this or that and today we're going to answer those questions for you why you should not buy one of these but before we get into that let's take a look around this thing so here's the front of this Santa Fe and it does have a little wear and tear on it it does have roughly 130,000 miles on it you can see some of the Chrome is starting to peel on the grill headlights are decent they have a little bit of fading going on at the top but it's not too bad so go around to the side you can see it has some nice five-spoke wheels on it they actually look pretty decent on the car we've been having some winter weather you can see all the salt spray and all the SLO and actually can see a small accident that Danielson was in I'll let him describe that to you here in a little bit I don't know the story on that let's come around to the back you can see a pretty familiar rear end we see a lot of these Santa fees on the road actually tons of them but otherwise it's in pretty good shape other than the little Dent it has on the side before we continue with the mess this car is in I thought I'd talk to about a mess that you may be facing in your life serious debt this is totally PDS debts wheelhouse they will give you back your life and save you thousands in interest and fees now let's get back to today's car go Ahad and get the hood open we'll go ahead and put our Hood prop clamp on there because those hood struts are already blown so this is actually the port injection 2.4 L this is not the GDI that are known to fail so bad you guys actually have seen a video where we had a car went straight to the scrapyard because the cost to replace the GDI engine was more than the car was worth and there's been engines of these nature the GDI is dropping like flies we'll do an interior review and let Mrs wiard show you guys around the car and then I'll grab Danielson over here and then we'll talk about all the problems he's had with with this thing okay ladies and gents we got check out danielson's car and it has 124,000 and9 miles okay so it's got a fair amount and obviously it's got some lights on there just showing us that they work um but I imagine he might have seen some of those lights show up uh at other times but I guess we'll find those stories out in just a second so nice gauge cluster color is blue so I definitely like the colors that it's showing there as we move up the dash is in really good shape lots of plastic plastic and more plastic but again looking good so we look at our infotainment system it's a very very small screen as we move down we have a lovely little HVAC system with a little picture of a man sitting there how adorable and yes it is 60° in the shop but it is like5 outside so yes it might be cool in the shop but not like it is out in the actual Outdoors lovely faux wood trim that kind of even has a nice little bump as it goes around as they molded that lovely plastic even the nice little heidy hole which is our ashtray looks nice and clean is wrapped in faux wood as well as we look at the seats they appear to be a leatheresque material not sure if they truly are but they are a nice camel color and they have a little bit of bolster on the sides especially when you sink into the seats they are rather comfortable so look at our door card lots more camel color with a little bit of taupe on the top with some kind of a well it looks like steel but I'm pretty sure that's called plastic over there next to our window controls and our door locks as we look at our back seats they do look really good he doesn't have any little kiddos so it doesn't get used terribly often but you can tell it does have a 4060 split look at that headliner everything's in good shape because again there's no kids in here eating and dropping things he does tell me though that I'm supposed to be looking under the seats for some spare french fries I don't know he's offered them to me I I don't know if I see any down there but I think will refrain from his kind offer of providing me a snack thanks Daniel Sun as we're back at our steering wheel very simple controls lots of buttons for here not used to this many buttons on most cars that we see today so I guess that's one of the things that Hyundai really wants you to have is lots of controls here to make sure that you're watching the road and making sure you can you know not move your hands too far away considering I think there's more buttons here on the steering wheel than there are over there okay maybe not quite but it definitely feels like there are a lot of buttons over here so okay so enough of this interior talk let's hear the story behind this car wow is it really that bad you need a whole list yeah so this has not been a very uh fun car for you to own has it it it hasn't uh I bought it used and it has definitely shown its age pretty quickly it didn't last is that what 120 what you say 124 or something like that 12409 12409 most Toyotas and most Hondas really wouldn't be showing any issues right now but you've had nothing but issues right yes I've replaced plenty of parts plenty of parts so I guess we'll go through your list of everything all the troubles you had but before we do that I want to know what happened to the dent back there what's going on there so somebody T-boned me just a a young teenager driving taking I guess the sister to school or something like that pulled up and just T-Bone my door wow they probably like on their phone and just ran right into your car huh yeah you know teenagers nowadays sheesh well that explains what happened here let's go back to the engine bay so all those things you're writing down I guess let's start at the top and see exactly how bad and not enjoyable this car has been okay so let me start with the stuff I've already replaced which is a crankshaft sensor some heater core lines some oil cooler lines front control arms sway bar bushing sway bar links cool and temp sensor new struts so just today I found axle boots and Hoot struts so the top one you said crank sensor I remember you having some issues where this what would happen like shut off or something yeah I'd be driving and it would go in Lim mode just randomly you never really knew when it was going to happen it just go in random I remember it was really kind of pissing you off you're like what the hell's wrong with this car you end up being a crank sensor huh yes so you got that replaced and that solved that and then after you finally got that solved you actually had coolant leaks coming from like heater hoses and things yes every so often I would see the reservoir was starting to get low and I'm like where's this coolant leak coming from and then I found that it was all the you know heater core lines and the uh oil cooler lines as well wow and then on the list you mentioned control arms what was going on with those so I'm driving the you know I was just driving it sounds like a noisy mattress just everywhere I go oh wow squeaking everywhere control arms solved it huh yeah a couple of control arms and then also some sway bar links and S Bar Bushings just I was already in there might as well replace those too yeah and then also you mentioned on the list a coolant temperature sensor did your gauge fail or what happened so actually the dealer who sold me the car had the hose that you're actually holding on to right now unplugged and it kept leaking coolant and overheating and I thought it was the coolant temp sensors where I replac it and then I found it was that was the issue oh wow this little hose right here yep so on top of the things you've already found now you you have hood struts we just found out they're not holding the hood up and then underneath there's even more things huh yeah couple more things well let's get this thing in the air and take a look so definitely you said these control arms are new and the sway bar links that took care of your squeaking noise yes okay what some of the other things you would found under here well if you look right here you can see all the grease oh splattering from the from the boots all of them are uh leaking at least a little bit oh the CV boots yes sir oh wow yeah I definitely saw it over here too it's spraying and there's like Gunk everywhere y looks I thought it was a transmission leak looks like CV boots are in your future well at least you haven't had your catalytic converter stolen yeah it's high enough off the ground so w can get under here and just cut it I know that's that's the secondary the main one's up there right still I don't want them to steal any of them I could definitely see Tweakers still trying to cut that off anyway so this one is front-wheel drive only front wheeel drive only it doesn't have a rear shaft going back here that would have mounted and everything okay here's our charcoal canister everything looks to be good there the fuel Tank's all wet it's just because we pulled it in from outside it's -5 outside and this is condensation it's just water from temperature change as we move to the back no holes in the exhaust that's good yeah that's really good you're saying there's some cracked bushings on these little arms here yeah over here they're starting to crack back there oh yeah I can see the the rubber's cracking wonderful add that to the list add it to the list your spare tire is Flat add that to the list spare tire is flat shocks are not blown the brakes looks like you did brakes recently or someone did yes I I they did some maintenance before they sold it to me yeah there's definitely a lot of surface rust on here as well a lot more than I would normally see on a Kansas vehicle so maybe there's some corrosion issues going on there but uh yeah let's get this thing back on the ground you mentioning you had some issues with speakers or something going on in there yeah so having the upgraded the premium audio on this unit um the speakers it has like 10 speakers in there problem with that is that each speaker is extremely expensive and they blow out I already had two blown out and to even replace them you need high efficiency speakers where which are still expensive so what are the new speakers from like the dealer or something uh they're roughly like 250 to 300 even if you if you can find them cuz I don't make them anymore you have to find me wow 2 300 newtimes 10 speakers that could be a $3,000 Bill yes wow that's crazy so can you recommend this car to anyone like a single mom or somebody's looking to buy a cheap SUV is this something you would recommend no absolutely not no don't do it you've had nothing but trouble with it like I mentioned in the beginning of this video most Hondas and Toyotas by this mileage are not having these problems we had so many customers come into the shop with Hyundai and Kia it's just nothing but trouble around 100 120,000 mile mark it starts nickeling and diming them to death and they're like I should have never bought this vehicle just like he's saying but why did you buy this vehicle so I believe that Hyundai was fairly a good you know fairly good brand I even told my family hey buy Hyundai's you know and now they all have a Hyundai unfortunately until I came here and then I found out how terrible they are so you found out a different story once you actually owned one yes I think everyone I've ever worked on the customer when they come to pay their bill they say the same thing I really don't like that car I'm looking to get rid of it as soon as I can I'll never buy another one I keep hearing that about Hyundai and kids so that's kind of the reason why we got Danielson here to share his story and to give you guys a video stay away they just really are not good cars so if you're asking I'm looking at this Hyundai and Kia is so much cheaper there's a reason why it's so much cheaper and he's got a list that he could show you on the screen right now why it's so much cheaper so definitely a public service announcement for you guys out there looking to buy a vehicle thanks Daniel I'll let you get back to your Ferrari work actually Daniel just reminded me as he's walking away the depreciation on these is so bad it's it's kind of well known they're not a great vehicle for the money he owes on the vehicle versus what it is now worth has really got a drastic difference in it now he would love to sell it and dump it but he's working on getting it paid off he's getting close he's actually getting close to get it paid off and I don't think he's going to be keeping this thing around some people have mentioned in the comments why don't you do a buy This Not That Kia or Hyundai and the reason why is because I can't with a good faith effort recommend to buy any of them they really are just not good vehicles so say buy this one don't buy this one actually it's more like don't buy any of them and that's really not a video I mean what I what are you going to show on a video like that don't buy any of these I just showed you and that's it don't buy them this car is designed really any of the Kia or the Hyundai are designed as when they're brand new the entry level price is what sells the vehicles and once they reach 100 120,000 miles they don't really expect that you should be trying to keep it on the road you got your cheap car you got your use out of it you should be disposing of the car and getting another one that's kind of the idea here and it's kind of what lures some people to buy them brand new well a brand new Toyota is 60 Grand I can get a Hyundai for 42 that's a no-brainer right no it really is probably should go with a Toyota anyways when it's new it has a warranty it's kind of like a little bit of a a safety there so if it is a bad car at least they're going to cover it but most people don't buy new cars anymore most people are buying used cars that's the reason why all the dealerships are out there buying up all the used cars because that's what's selling right now and you don't have a warranty when you buy a used car I have heard stories many stories of people that have on their third and fourth Engine with the 2.4 GDI engines it's really a really a bad problem so again I'm going to underline the statement don't buy Hyundai don't buy Kia the argument can be made it's a car what are you complaining about fix it get the bill paid and move on but I actually have a heart unlike some people the customers that have these vehicles I hate what they're having to go through instead of fixing it a lot of times I say you know your money be better spent trading it in go get you a different vehicle a Toyota a Honda even a Mazda something anything is better than some of these old kids and Hyundai but yes you can keep fixing it for the customer but after two years go by and you've got $113,000 into the car did you really doing them any good no they should have gotten rid of the car make sure to check out Mrs Wizard's ways as well and hit the Subscribe button here because we have many cars coming in which means more videos for you guys thanks for watching [Music]
