do [Music] welcome to drag week 2021 we're here with 400 drag cars checking in for drag week in martin michigan us 131 dragway we have a packed week for you guys today's testing we call it day zero we have five drag days after that starting here in martin michigan we're testing today first day of competition tomorrow then we drive all the way to norwalk ohio indianapolis byron illinois and then back here to martin michigan so we're going to have a daily updates for you guys on the channel make sure to subscribe so you get all of them and see all the highlights from the track from the road all the struggles the cars go through as you can see we have a long tech line from the drag tower all the way out the gate here at michigan we have cars lined up for over a half mile it's gonna take a few hours to get through them this afternoon we're gonna get us some testing but right now we're gonna go check out some of the wild and weird cars that show up and some of the leaders we think might win the classes so let's get to it [Music] look at that look at the meats on it whose car is it i need to talk to you about this thing okay i've never seen tires this big on a on a crown vic before and i've never seen turbos in the grill before give me a rundown real quick what are we looking at here um it is a 2003 mercury marauder it's got the factory 4 6 32 valve a little bit of stroke to it a pair of 6766 turbos turbo 400 reed case gear vendor overdrive it's got uh moser i'm sorry strange nine inch 40 spline axles how much it was a tub to get those things in there you know my buddy did this in his garage really yeah we back way back when we pulled it off the top off the frame we rolled it into his garage and he whacked the frame up and put it back together and it was like the most amazing thing it looks great it's just a fun street car how much power does it make um it makes about 1500 at the crank and makes about 1100 at the wheels geez what are you hoping for et wise for the week 10-0 because i don't have my license okay so that's fair i just i just hope i finish okay well that is this your first drag week no seven oh oh you bet you've been at this game for a while oh yeah i i originally an o7 this used to have a 671 blower on it sticking out of the hood i think kyle was telling me that yes and that my first drag week i didn't know anything about it drove it from waterloo and that was um cordova we started an end of that so i drove it for a whole week thought well this is just great had cruise and air and everything and i thought oh that's a slippery slope so this is the third motor well we love the marauder thanks for bringing it out good luck this weekend thank you guys absolutely you guys are here hell yeah it's a turtle [Applause] how are we doing how you doing oh you're wearing the right shirt and everything oh i am not sure all right so if you wanted to take the turtle on drag week for how many years now this i mean two years solid now since i decided to do the ls swap gotcha um just because i wanted to be more of a street car style car and we're here this is the ultimate streetcar test right here yeah this is your first drag week yes what is your goal for my goal is to finish okay that's that's the answer i wanted to hear because a lot of guys go on day one they're like i wanna i wanna play so i'm gonna be top five it's like you need to finish first the back of my mind i do have a time goal but in reality with this car it falls in the super street small block class which is a high seven second field because my chassis i can i cannot run faster than 85 so that's pretty much my with this event um the car has been much quicker and uh but i mean that's ultimately what we're doing so i don't fit in the rules of the 850 class so we're here just for ourselves just to have a good time okay um of course i would like to see an eight-second average okay um whether it be at 8.99 i don't care i know the car's got it in it i knock on fiberglass i don't have a reason why i don't think we should finish so well i'm glad to see you've made it i know you've been trying to work on getting the trailer made and getting the car ready for this for a little while we'll see you later this week good luck man appreciate it holy crap your truck looks a little different jesse no it doesn't look at this contract that's that look it even has the original paint and everything hey is that the is that the power plant for your old that's the old engine and with about 80 000 miles on it yeah i got to stand back for a second let's look at this thing what in the heck have you created here and it is titled it is registered it is a 1972 it is a 7520 tractor cab 2955 hood 40 20 radiator the frame is a 87 s15 the engine is a 496 out of the old greeny tranny's the turbo 400 out of ogrini this is what happens when you can't make the old truck go fast enough it crossed the scales at 48.60 no matter what i did you could cut your stacks down a little bit but that means those are coming off when i run are they yeah they'll come off that's just for quick exhaust fumes going down the road uh yeah i had it shorter on the first test drive that went disastrous and that was toasty i was getting fumigated inside oh yeah coming up coming right in the back i was also getting pelted with the rocks i didn't have fenders oh this these are last minute additions here oh everything's last minute this panel was put on friday about 30 minutes before we loaded it up to come here uh this side and that side it's had so far force test runs highway mile from the house to the bus barn the fur toasty not good thirsty not good friday morning couldn't even get there because the alternator drained bled the battery down overnight so i couldn't even get there friday afternoon i got to the bus barn and back home successfully two days ago friday yeah okay the fourth and successful test drive was from the pits wherever way back over there across the back 40 to here i'm glad i'm ready for drag week we've been watching wrong we've been watching this thing online and it's it's quite the treat to see in person well this is very unique what in the heck oh got some bead locks on the back of it must be a little serious what the heck is this thing it's a 1963 difficult truck okay okay it's got bead locks on the back must be pretty serious then yeah it's twin turbo it is yeah big black shaving twin turbo no way yeah what oh my god crap that's pretty serious yeah we're we're hoping hoping for like midwives we'd love to give you the 11th really well yeah that's a pretty heavy bus there pounds yeah actually it's not too bad i guess it was pretty short less than i thought you got a big block in it not big huge 4.96 how big are the turbos they're like 76. okay yeah you do redo the whole interior in it you just do the wood flooring that's nice yeah yeah did it look like this when you bought it or did you redo the paint that's exactly what it was we repaired a few panels and it made them match the truck really yeah that's the original patina that we found we're gonna have to find you guys on the road and take it right in this thing i like the the bench seat in the back that's nice how many people are riding with you three three yeah it's my brother i and my son beautiful beautiful are you running on these tires are you swapping out every day no we got these oh okay the steamrollers back here yep nice well i think this is towards the top of my list of favorite things here this is this is pretty wild i just sat in it it's comfy you just cruising this thing all day he said it's uh caravan middle seats and then rear seat is what he's got working with nice it's comfy it's a nice shifter also that is real wood flooring that's not laminate he said he remodeled a house in florida and he had extra so all right the staging lanes just opened up here us-131 track just went hot we got some of the fast cars lining up here let's go get to the racing [Music] so [Music] not gonna make a full pass [Music] 7 53 8. [Music] [Music] keep it on the ground [Applause] [Music] [Music] more 13 186 on a bad launch too the car does run two seconds quicker than obviously from the plate that's why it's testing day [Music] we've seen this 400 before on race week but he has a parachute on it now that means he's hoping for 150 miles an hour quicker [Laughter] i like that [Music] 10 14 1332 a little test run look at you pretty good for the first lick huh not bad was it 10 14 14 118 not bad at all turned it down every time we see this thing it's doing new things so we rolled in today kyle's like it's got a parachute now and nhra rules means you have to you have to go 150. and if you go 150 you need a person you're like oh he's probably turned it up a little bit well we were in idaho just before here again same scenarios 2019 and we ran 987 at 142. so and it's not so much that this thing's just really hard to slow down and the truck it's a big heavy truck and uh you know i can't get performance brakes or any of that kind of stuff for it so it needs and that's kind of they're not a whole lot of room to jump on the brakes with this thing so the parachute is kind of necessary gotcha because we're going to go faster for sure oh yeah we're going to go faster what is the current setup on the 4runner want to look at it absolutely the bottom end was already pretty fresh pistons 2jz and steve morris did the cylinder head for me okay um plasma man build it in there icebox bigger turbo et cetera better what kind of power are we looking at now i made 975 on the dyno really yeah well we love seeing this thing every time man good to see you out here good luck this week man okay here comes mark rosenthal so 774 first test pass come on joe what are you doing 7 18 at 163 let out early that was a six joe what's the quickest he's been uh seven eight or six eighty wow and that was dang that was promising 29 pounds of boost we've got it on 36 oh damn this week yeah that's not like we finished enough mile pass that was an eighth mile pass it went uh 456. is that is that just the baseline boost set up or you got it is turned up a little no it's turned up okay it is i mean no lie i mean it was like i feel like if you would have stayed in it that would have been a six yeah no it felt good i mean it but we'll see what the data i mean i i don't know i mean i thought i expected faster which i'm sure a lot of it not being used to the car yeah so that's great well it's good to make a pass finally the car for after a few years thank you i didn't floor it can you floor it the whole way next time not like this 30 like to the floor where is it really 30 are you that rusty i'll give it to you guys i've been in the car it dips it's got a big dip in the middle and coming back in he thought he was on woodwork okay so next time just all the way down the whole time and we got a six enter right there i got a six in it all right oh we gotta throw i'll see you next time all right joey between you and me obviously this is a driver issue not a not a tuner issue well somehow on accident it ended up making 40 pounds of boost what it wasn't supposed to on accident okay so that is a tuner issue we'll with everything functioning how it's closed we'll have fun man oh she didn't do a burnout but that's okay because they can't go quicker than 11 30. so powers don't need to be that hot what's your prediction i'm hoping for like 12 40. okay perfect 12 40. that's the goal [Music] [Music] go baby go what do we got what do we got all right 12 37 and 11 13 in the lane right on the money yeah they're hoping to get down the middle evans range by the end of the week because that's as quick as they can go the way it sits they need a cage for it after that well we got another familiar face out here drag week 21 but a new body a new car new chassis dave schroeder you won drag week one 18 17 17 17. we came in second and 18. in your 1966 corvette and now we have a c7 i bet you're excited about this car yeah yeah looking forward uh to getting this thing down the track you know the the other car really we have too much motor uh for it uh its best pass was 652 but uh which is you know it was moving but uh that motor this motor has got uh you know this car has got a big 36 inch tire on a foot more wheelbase oh yeah it seems like behind you motor had more potential you just needed the chassis behind it yeah so who built the chassis in this car this is jerry bickle uh okay c7 yeah definitely serious yeah so how many passes do you have on the car uh we got uh about five miles of street drive oh so you literally got it done and just made sure it drove down the street tuesday or wednesday night oh my god it's been uh yeah five weeks ago we got the front end uh and started building that and uh yeah it's been a an absolute threat for the last five weeks you do you did know what drag week was right everybody i think about 80 of the cars here are still making fine tuning adjustments but uh not too many with zero passes on them so it'll be interesting to see how it does today in testing yeah yeah we've done that before and uh yeah that almost seems to be the recipe so what are some of the things that you added to this for drag week yeah we added uh mirrors uh we added a rad we added the removable alternator the street exhaust was a lot of work because we didn't want it to be visible but uh so we you know have a kind of a pancaked flat exhaust running underneath does it come out past the axle or is it just dump right before you can kind of see the exit oh i see it comes out the side here carved out there well we'll see how deep you can get into the sixes this week dave yeah good luck hopefully yeah thank you enjoy the week all right [Music] not a big burnout thing is just ridiculous it's just all rubber back there god dang you can see it's instantly on the wheelie bar little white marks on it they got truck marks on it just from that 60-foot hit that thing is fast 101.65 [Music] [Applause] [Music] uh [Music] damn i think it's pretty quick [Music] me [Music] i know 101 60 foot holy crap well we've uh never been anywhere close to that yeah so good investment on the chassis i suppose yep yep i think we blew a fuse yeah just is that what happened okay so we were both like he must have felt something i don't know no it felt felt it never put me in the seat like that that was what's your best 60 before that i think we did it 106 but like once on fluke i think and that was like i think 107 was kind of a good 60 108 more normal so i was sitting right by the back tire and you left so violently it was just it was so cool to see i saw a video of the wheel looked pretty pretty happy pretty nice wheel speed i could look forward to looking at the data and that run that's yeah no i was uh happy the intake didn't blow off and uh last time we ever took it off the break yeah sweet that's good news i was hoping it wasn't a major break because he left so hard we were like why did he let out a bit and the car just shut itself off so it's not at the end of the track he wants to get it fixed down there so you can drive it back and hopefully we'll see him back up here for another test it momentarily 12 20 12 1. all right [Music] 1207. 103 for the milkman nice three other that's right did they pull the wheel up oh yeah okay oh yeah this side pulled it up like eight inches off the ground oh it did oh [Applause] it's not fast but it's still i think it's still my favorite thing on drag week so far it's just so weird you got yourself a little wheelie machine i like that i was not expecting it caught me up caught i'm sure did you feel that one yeah you gotta bet yeah i was on this side and it came up a little bit so i knew the other side it really really yeah it scared me because i i was ready for it so i know i missed second and then got it together the rest of the way so i think we'll i think we'll see our eleven you got some excitement though it's not running sevens but you're having no that's for sure right yeah still my favorite thing here so far i love it that's so cool thank you enjoy it hey alex hey hi how's it going trips um the people that made the master discount i know um low carb low quartz there we go okay how's it going good okay so last time we saw it was on race week yes it was the car was literally as fresh as it could possibly be now you have some seat time give me the full rundown on the car what are we looking at right now so this is a full tube chassis 55 chevy that dad and i built in four months and then we've spent the last two months refining it now that we actually have time so when we first got the car it shouldn't say first got it it was actually sitting out back behind our shop for years and earlier in the year dad had this idea he's like he just called me he's like come to the shop i got an idea it's only going to work if you're on board and i'm like okay and i come to the shop he's like how about we take everything out of the nova and stick it in the 55 and then when we're said and done we'll roll the novo or the roll the 55 back outside and let it rot away so that's how rough it was supposed to be it's just supposed to be lightweight and fast turns out the car snowballed this will nothing will happen to this car at this point we're keeping it but uh anyway so it's snowballed snowball snowball and now it's a fully independent roller but it's got the nova's engine and transmission gotcha it's a 509 big block chevy with twin precision uh 88 millimeter turbos and then it's got a turbo 400 behind it with a four link and a nine inch the rear what are we hoping for this week so i know this is technically called the quest for the 6s55 just because we built it to be a six second car eventually it's capable it's capable what i would love to see this week my main goal is obviously sub 750s i'd be happy with that i wanted my advanced dt license if you can average sevens all week you'd be excited super happy sub seven fifties i'd be super super excited okay all right well i'm glad to see the car out it looks amazing by the way i love all the paintwork all the patina over the carbon oh yeah i love it i'm excited it's just it's crazy because we've worked so hard but the year has gone by so fast and so slow at the same time because it's just been work every single day and so it's just exciting to finally like this is what we've worked towards so these two torture weeks we worked to torture ourselves there you go there you go well good luck we'll be turtle is limited to an 850 in the class that he's in so that is a perfect spot to be first test pass down i just got to slow down just a touch see if i can average an eight five something [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] one of my favorite parts about drag week is it's pretty much like a rolling car show with some beautiful beautiful classic cars and some of them are pretty damn fast and that is a show car quality chevy right there from the 980 and uh yeah minty fresh 865 for the old turtle turtle power baby turtle power you you'll get you good with that are you gonna make one more passes today perfectly fine with that okay that is basically my target for the week's uh i mean i can't run quicker than 850. right and i mean that's fantastic i mean to me it feels slow and i took it without a problem and it was just a happy fun sunday cruise off the trailer turtle power showing us what it can do i'm happy with that i haven't gotten the slip yet so thanks for telling me all right cars in holy cow they started attacking i think eight o'clock this morning so that means they're going on eight hours of taking cars in uh right now i think they're around 330 340 cars ticked in so i don't think we're gonna max out the 400 cap limit but they're gonna get close that is a lot of cars it's still going it goes past the quarter mile scoreboards [Applause] [Music] oh yeah greeny 2.0 the it's got the stock headlights you said it's got daytime running lights on it got the c7 logo on there mostly has sideway mirrors they're off right now graphics prevents and she's got a license plate hope for i didn't i didn't really build it to be a 16 second streak really that wasn't my goal well hopefully go pass this time something faster than a 16. 15 what whatever as long as i get down there would love to see a six second average 729 i saw a little puffs of smoke i think you had to peddle it a couple times we've we've seen this wagon on drag week before i forget when it runs i like his uh either parachute or power cut off that's run over the fight over the hood 7 36 holy crap what's the best pass on that car six ninth or something 690 something it's a new combo this year wow did it run good uh and yeah i probably stayed in a little too long but we were getting towards the center line so yeah uh all good so yeah line her up a little different next time hopefully i have the full hold on it further what's your predictions for the first pass what do you think i'll do first full pass out yeah i don't know uh based on the third 3 30 or so yeah that's deep uh that's uh if we could keep you can have anybody work on it but as of tomorrow at about eight or nine in the morning after the driver's meeting there's no trailers in the lanes it's all race cars and only you and your driver or you and your co-pilot can work on the cars so it's all free game today these guys could be working for a few more hours getting the cars ready but we'll be back tomorrow for the first competition day when things get serious and my favorite part about these trips is the actual driving so we got about six or seven hours of racing tomorrow and then a drive to the next track for i don't know we don't
