my name is abner and i'm a chaplain ex-con age of 18 i started with the latin kings i did about 14 years of solid prison time abner come on up man your mission will be to find out as much as you can about the gangs within our facility so green go see what ink you got take your shirt off yeah i got no six pack but i'm good at the age of 18 i caught a charge for assault with a deadly weapon and that's when i started experiencing the gang within the prison system so i started with the lantern kings you got shot before well yeah that's a little souvenir i got a couple of though i mean so with a crown in the back got cinco points on that bad boy will that tattoo be linked to latin kings no okay gold and black yeah it doesn't have the right cubs but the five points the real one is under it the first time i committed a series crime i was 16 years old and i knew what it was like to grab a weapon and watch an adult drop on the floor i was a guy that you were gonna cross the street when you saw me you were absolutely gonna cross the street when you saw me coming after leaving jail my last time i started evaluating myself and started seeing what i could do to help people i became a certified chaplain and i serve other people i'm kind of hesitant going into the past and you know something resurrecting from my past even if it's a thought feeling emotion my mother for years said my son is good i was not good i was a savage but i'm not that person anymore so one of the reasons why i'm doing 60 days in is for me to give back but at the same time something might happen that might make me relapse that's what worries me about this experiment go ahead turn around put your hands on the hood of the car i've completed five years parole it'll be almost 10 years that i've committed a crime no violations no no police contact nothing i've left that behind in my past hands around your back but i have to be that person one more time i'm walking into intake it hits you that i'm i'm an inmate i'm alone tap it on the inbox here it's almost like a deja vu and it's like here we go again i'm gonna take this and then while you're walking around keep your hands right back please outdoor to the left [Applause] right when i'm walking in and here comes the two hispanic guys in my face two seconds i'm chicano i felt like nervous like anxious like man this is only one minute walking through the door [Music] you come in white doesn't matter what gang you belong to in the streets you're white if you come in black and if you're a blood a or whatever you're black and if you're hispanic born in the united states automatically i'm chicano what you have a warren from new york i can turn flat 7 flat this is me i've been writing this island thousand inmates this is like candy like you know i got my bed made it's it's a custom when someone recognizes that you have position walking in from the door is a form of respect i'll make your bet go on this pr uh so many years so many times yeah i got a problem the ink tells a lot about a person as much as you try to hide the ink tells a lot if they knew that i was a lion king i automatically become the threat in the unit because they know that in the east coast lion kings run the show and automatically i knew that he holds position he's one of the heads and he's looking at me and sizing me up so it's like now i'm on high alert if this keeps going the way it's going i might roll out of here in a body bag one of the the blacks savage told me to cut his hair i said yeah i don't want to cut here i'm decent enough i'm gonna cut my hand i'm gonna cut his head what you mean you mean not but then this young kid bishop tells me the blacks are going next in front of everybody disrespecting me so automatically i called him out he said you're pumped bishop got it real quick when he saw that hey i'm not here to play with you and he ran out of cell very smart for him to run out to sell my mission is to find out more about the gangs and in pinal county jail it's not the gang it's the race i've been getting to know tyrus because he leads the blacks he could be useful in my mission but at the end of the day he's he's not you know my race so now i had to focus on the chicanos so automatically his days are numbered [Music] yeah if you vouch for him you're out of there too it's going to be all out hell war anybody who's claiming that they're vouching for him about your point says he's a rat wherever this dude is i'm going to go talk to him right now and i'm going to ask him face to face if i see anything funny then i can take the judgment you know i'm saying he was just mad at a situation that you have to enforce your politics you're wood and one of your woods are no good and he has to go i went up there and talked to dude and his story didn't match from when he first came in come to find out he wasn't a snitch he wasn't right but he let another race push him and he didn't fight back oh he still had to go and at the end of the day the politics played out and you had to follow the order i gave you can't touch me i am royalty in here someone stole two sodas one one day from tyrus and then another one [Music] [Music] since i've been here i've established enforcer role in my own race so i had to you know do what i have to do if you steal from me my man i don't care anybody i'm doing dirty listen let me let me rephrase that for you let me rephrase it i'm going to beat the out of you okay and i want to draw you and drop you i don't think what any of them say i'm a did you steal from it and stop lying bro i was the one that had to put the pressure on robert because nobody else could put fear in him to say the truth all right [Music] i'm sorry don't do it again bro i'm doing with you just don't do it again man you don't got stealing in here [Music] he's wrong for stealing and of course he got rolled out [Music] i can't just let it go giovanni took it upon himself to start stealing you could tell he was lying take it in the room on the [Music] [Applause] bro you maybe he's hanging with the woods you're not a wood ikaika being racially confused jumping the fence back and forth is very dangerous it's going to give you a label of you don't have no loyalty to anyone uh [Applause] [Music] is ikaika he needed a rude awakening being racially confused that could get you killed what happened with ikaika i feel bad for him because he doesn't have a father figure in his life and i want him to go home and i want him to to to leave this you know i look at him as my kid he's a teenager stuck in a man's world and uh [Music] and that was me 25 years ago [Music] you know that kid uh hit my wee spot because he was put in a situation that i had to deal with by somebody that was no good and i'm not proud of the things i've become and the system has done this to me and this is this is why i'm doing this on 60 day um [Music] does that compromise you were abner's cover story who are you brotherly though trump okay were you able to explain to bisha how you would have known abner or that abner could have been your boy this is easy i just said i know him from back in the day we from the east coast this kite was sent from 200 200 is right next to us and it was like from bishop but me and b shark were not friends the kite stated hey tell amner uh your boy david said what's up i was feeling a little confused like i didn't understand what i was looking at like what the what what the this is weird because remember i don't know nobody here that's my cover story i ripped up the kite [Music] because in here if they find out that i'm undercover it's going to be 10 20 guys on top of you stomping you until you can't move anymore these people are ruthless and there's not gonna be no walking away hey bishop's here so b shaw came back to the 100 that made me nervous because he knows that i know david and it's dangerous i just want to talk to him and see what he knows confirmed that david knows me what the what are you stupid i don't know you you're a kinfolk you're undercover you just blatantly snitched on me i can't believe it you know david was a cop like there's no excuse word gets around real quick so it's like now i have to listen to everything they say you follow their lips their words this is real man this is a ticking time bomb billy b shaw and tyrus they were in the room talking that's two ken foes and a wood very rare as soon as i went into the room tyra started acting very oddly like oh man what's going on and i'm just joking with him but i just want to see where he's at what's going on what's going on man [Music] do you feel your car's blocked i wish i could be a for sure and say no it's not it's not blown but it's not the normal i'm used to being in control i could feel the shift the tension in the place i saw billy standing in front of myself signing to the other side and i know sign language i'm watching the letters he's using he's waiting for confirmation and it's not his people because he didn't say would he said see chicano [Applause] they're waiting for the green light and i'm not stupid i've been doing this for years so it was like uh it was not good he was targeting me when something serious like this happens it's almost like a trophy you know we got to snitch i had to sleep with one eye open because i didn't want when someone went by to attack me so before that even happens you know it's like i'm going to boom so this morning i raised a distressed signal and when i walked out of my cell and saw the other inmates already up and they're usually not up that was the confirmation that once i stepped out that cell it's on you know so it's like they're just waiting for the signal to attack [Music] immediately i knew when they were sign language that it was time [Applause] so i was cautious to be by the door and making sure that i could see the mirror and whoever comes behind me cruise one of three vision wow i tried my best i man it it it was dangerous and last night it was guys saying you're done david was the one that blew my cover yeah full full blown it like are you stupid yeah you deliberately did what you did david when he told b shaw about me sadly did what a cop does snitches broke my heart no more orange i pretty much succeeded at my mission because i know everything there is to know within the walls but i gave the signal because i didn't want to put myself in jeopardy i think i lost myself in there and that was my fear taking something from in there that would trigger that criminal mentality again when i went home i thought i was strong enough to fight that fear as soon as i felt the sun army i felt the warmth and uh you automatically feel life and something surreal when that son hit me that's the one moment that confirmed that i'm not a criminal anymore that's when i knew i was back to being a man of god
