when i was in prison around age of 18 i started with the latin kings and i was the enforcer so pretty much whether it was a violation or a green light my role was to enforce it and here i am the enforcer for the chicanos on 100. i'm in the top ranks of the top gang but it's it's hard to have that power [Music] robert came in the unit and went up chicano comes into the pot i got to let him know yeah you know you have to follow your race your people and the rules started talking to him and greeting him that's when you really find out who that person really is you know when she stole steaks gummy like what uh 4600 dollars they said what damn i feel bad for him because even if it was a necessity of of money or where his background where he's come from even though you're a criminal and you committed a crime you're not a bad person [Music] ready [Music] someone stole two sodas one one day from tyrus and then another one huh [Music] if someone steals from me and they get caught if it's my race i'm gonna have a meeting with the rest of my people and we're either gonna we're gonna handle that in a certain way and he's probably gonna have to go to another pod [Music] and if it's somebody else's race they'd be forced to handle it or if they don't take care of it to the way i like it then me and my people and their people have an issue it'd be a race ride because you're harboring a thief [Music] [Applause] [Music] being the enforcer in the pot i might have to take control of the situation [Music] i'm not playing you know i've been checking because i know still again was to find out what you needed to do in that unit we don't need you to go to unit 6. we stuck you in a particular unit where you know you're being watched you know there's cameras everywhere and you know that we can get to you in 45 seconds to get you help if something happens to you we told you to stay in that unit okay i didn't know what was going on all right they called me out my room the lady wanted to speak to me the lady said dennis johnson pack you back cut the acting here okay we all straight we know what's going on here let's make something real clear we're expecting you to help us out your safety is our concern okay no you're not not when you go and move to another unit okay they get you back there in one of them pods with no cameras in and whoop your butt how we ain't gonna know to come get you so what you're gonna do is you're gonna go back to that unit yep say you're having some problems with some guys up there and you just don't feel like you need to be in here can i go back to unit four understood i understood talk to me like a man and everything's good i've been doing what i can to do to throw everybody off do you understand what you're doing i'm doing this how many people do you see take your shirt off every day in front of a camera and work out the shirts get wet you know the rules you can't have your shirt off in the pod i'm playing by the rules did you have your shirt yes yes or no you had it all that's not following the rules all that does is draw attention to you and if we're allowing you to get away with stuff like this they're going to know something's up if they know what you're in they're actually doing how safe do you think you'd be this ain't some school yard some college or some football field this is real life so quit doing all this stupid that you're doing trying to look cool and all this kind of stuff i don't need that or is your voice at me you're in my building don't turn around anything on me because i promise you i will walk you out the door right now and this will be over and done go in there do what you're supposed to do and do your job simple as that we don't have any more problems we're good we are okay go do your job all right hang in there you don't have to grip your hand hard trust me no sir look we can cut the camera off and we can have a real talk at the end of the day i do this for a living don't try me she's pee from the jump you don't like me he's threatened by me intimidated by me because he thought when i was gonna come in he thought i was gonna they were gonna look at me and you know pounce on me but that ain't the case you get what i'm saying i'm in there make it happen this whole situation right here like i can't i can't deal with that you're not gonna talk to me like that now you ain't going to talk to me like that we got a problem we got a real problem you know it's a respect thing you know we don't want you in here if it's not we're asleep we don't want you in here i won't come in your house she's your bathroom you sleep so i suspect you're not coming in mine it's the inmates running the pie you got to ask for permission to use the bathroom and then if they say no you still got to go figure something out so honestly a day room bathroom is a joke it is what it is like i got to use the showers ain't no inmates about to tell me i can't use the bathroom who's in there who's in there yo i'm so tired of it either they gonna have to do something or they're gonna just have to shut the up all i hear is who is in the shower and stuff blah blah and all the four roommates started like saying stuff i'm trying to take damn i'm about to go smack every last one of them i'm done playing with people i'm not like if i got to come at people it is what it is we had to go behind the curtain and handle it if we got to so i'm ready to fight i'm sitting here this situation kind of just gave me flashbacks to where i was younger and just dealing with people on the block back in detroit every single night then i will keep waking you up being in jail would kind of bring you right back to that same place i didn't know it was you bro i'm not about to take this crap and i'm ready to use my hands because in jail you can't use words there's been drama prior to me getting here so i don't really exactly know everything i've been trying to make my own business but i just want to sleep like seriously i'm like going crazy i am not worried about you it's like they can't comprehend because they're brainwashed and institutionalized you all make valid points but the fact is that ain't nobody gonna see eye to eye because there's too many issues being talked about at one time so everybody just go to sleep call it a night at this point enough is enough [Music] [Music] you have to sit there and watch these girls beat on tabitha it's awful i cannot lay in that bed and watch somebody else get beat up like that you know for me to jump in is out of character but i'm going to stand up for what's right jackie was yelling and screaming through the vent that automatically pissed me off you see another participant act that way girl and you make a valid point all of us do but what are we solving i have not gotten sleep since i've been here i've heard nothing but bickering and arguing who's right who's wrong this that whatever who gives a for me to jump in is out of character for the most part i'm very soft-spoken so when i get loud i feel like there's something seriously wrong with the environment that i'm in i don't want to be stuck here with all your that sunshine oh my gosh it gets on my nerves because you can't yell at everybody in that pod [Music] someone's got to be the bigger person and be like you are not worth my breath in time done jackie i mean she has a strong personality for a white girl but she has a lot of understanding about life so that's probably why her personality is at the level it's at i get what you're saying and that's just me being real i shot my mouth half the time because all this doesn't matter they don't yeah they've had enough that's not me but being put into that situation it's like you lose your mind you do not feel like the person you were prior to coming into the situation we're in here arguing in the dark when we all have one thing in common we definitely are stuck in this room together we're stuck god [Music] walking into 400 a couple people remember me and i think okay everything's coming back to me it's like you don't get on your grind like you've been here before this ain't nothing new this is my second time going in that's that's that's some phase one this is like my kid's playground in my backyard i can do what i want to do they want everybody steve set somebody up look at it i know i'm in the day room and i see this white kid who said hey bro you working with the camera crew i'm like now i wanna play this like i could just go up and just smack them and that just gonna seal the deal don't even open your mouth wrong hey sir i can't i can't hear you speak [Applause] you disrespect me i'ma put blood in your mouth how did he react he shut up wouldn't you shut up [Applause] and then all the same gangsters surrounding him who encouraged him enough to even approach me to say that now they like nah big homie he may not like that now i'm cool big bro um oh gee all this man my name is [Applause] it's tony good man i mean austin would never confront me if he didn't have like five six people uh telling him what to do with him being obviously the oddball cause he's white the black people they in his ear cause they ain't got the balls enough to come to me and said they know better so keep your mouth shut and we good my coffee i know there was coffee here whoever took the coffee brings it back otherwise it's gonna get real ugly i don't think anybody touched your stuff sarah just leave me alone dirty asses and after i'm getting drunk in jail you don't like me too bad i don't want you to like you just cut your hands and you know you're gonna hear me or my stuff allow your asses no lights just give them out of my so watch your mouth we all got life so we're not low lives in 21 we're like a family i'm protective over these women you know what i'm saying i already had that protective instinct [Music] god bless you lord have mercy i told everybody in the room already that i do not want to talk to anybody because they're hypocrites and they steal angel her and her girlfriend are having sex i hear them like you know sex sounds and sex everything and i turn the other way to give them privacy she doesn't even appreciate anybody who respects her because she doesn't have respect for herself thank you i'm sick of people having sex and looking into each other's underwears and all these things [Music] i don't like being disrespected and i don't like when people have to talk about people in a nasty way so i have to say something right okay [Music] angel is not really thinking about the consequences that can happen from what she's doing yeah yeah well you decided to be a man or a woman i don't talk to you and of any reason okay sahar she was extremely disrespectful what am i going to do just sit there and let that person disrespect me and disrespect my people i'm not going to do it this right here plays this what's up what's up what's oh for her to forget who she was in the midst of everything that we're doing was very shocking it's preposterous it's ridiculous i've never ever been in a situation like this in my life [Music] it's like what are you doing you're here to do a job and you are fighting people [Music] females are more emotional than men they're bad different mood swings all the time it's bound to happen i will pull your shirt over here [Music] we're in a pod together 24 hours a day so it's a van like all the time especially somebody new comes in [Music] in my cell i have this little tiny window and the showers in the toilet are freaking disgusting jennifer's here or whatever jennifer is a new bunk mate of mine as a police officer what i'm guessing of her is that jennifer wants people to be afraid of her i feel like she's gonna be trouble this particular woman i will keep my garb around her i have three other bunk mates to live with jennifer sleeps beneath me and is dating someone else in the pod that we live in they'll be laying um on top of each other or kissing and various other things will be happening which is uncomfortable for me the food is depressing scenery is depressing i mean if you weren't super depressed when you came in here you feel a bit of that huh now i can take a shower oh wait i can't take a shower somebody has my shower shoes on jennifer is strutting around the pod in my shoes you know is she trying to be the boss of me in our shell am i to just back off what am i going to do this is what's going to try you this is how you're going to have to figure out and how to navigate your way around that pod you need to assert yourself [Laughter] so i got those yesterday okay you
