take a look at some characters because you'd think the characters of the game would be something that you would be able to stay on top of as a fan but there are actually a bunch of distinct minor characters you've probably never heard of before like for instance do any of you know who walda pepper is while the pepper is a young girl that is involved in a side quest in pokemon emerald you can find her in rossboro city where she is in bed sick and if you are able to cheer her up by making her laugh her father will give you a new wallpaper for your pc box hence her name being walda pepper walda is also one of the very few characters in pokemon with both a first and last name yet being a minor npc who only appears in pokemon emerald it would be very easy to not be aware of her existence or just forget about her entirely some more characters you may not recall or be aware of are the multiple radio djs from the johto games now you've probably heard of dj mary or buena from the buenas password show but have you heard of fern lily reed or snap unless you absolutely loved the radio feature of the johto games you probably don't remember these characters at all especially since most of them are only ever mentioned on the radio and by other npcs and don't appear physically in the game and also they all have only ever appeared in one set of games fern lily and reed are only present in the gen 2 games and did not return in heartgold and soul silver and snap only appears in heart golden soul silver and is not named in many of the localizations either including french german and italian making these characters super under the radar there are even more johto characters you've probably never heard of though including jet wilton and carrie jett is a character who appears exclusively in heart gold and soul silver as an opponent in the pokeathelon however he only appears in the supreme cup so he can be really easy to miss however he also appears in the pokemon adventures manga so he is a bit more than your average npc meanwhile wilton is another character who also appears in the games and manga but unlike some of these other characters he's just a regular npc trainer who can be found on route 44. however in the manga he's actually fairly significant because he is the uncle of yellow one of the main characters from the early volumes of pokemon adventures so he's actually way more important than he seems in the games finally carrie might be a character you have seen before but you might not remember her as carrie carrie is the little girl that you meet in the goldenrod department store in the gen 2 games who grants you access to mystery gift when you talk to her additionally she is somewhat important past just this as she is the only way that you can record both scissor and porygon 2 into your pokedex without actually getting them through a trade yourself as you were able to battle her with these pokemon at the trainer house in viridian city rounding out these unknown characters is one more from generation four by the name of roseanne roseanne is one of professor rowan's assistants so you've assuredly met her if you've played the cito games but there's a good chance you didn't know her name was roseanne as she only uses that name in pokemon platinum and first received the name in the tcg moving on from characters we're now going to get into abilities and while i won't be able to detail them all like i did with the characters for the sake of time there are several here that are of the more unheard of variety of course if battling is your thing or depending on the pokemon you have used before you may have come across these before but they're definitely not the most significant abilities either and they include damp filter flower gift grass pelt long reach rattled ripen solid rock stall triage and water bubble you'll have to let me know if you've heard of any of these before in the comments below because in my case putting together this video i'm pretty sure is the first time i've heard of any of these along these same lines are of course pokemon moves i've been doing a whole series of videos lately on cool pokemon move facts and i've mentioned in one of those videos how there are plenty of moves out there that you've probably never even heard of so in addition to that list let me know if you've ever heard of any of these moves ring out telekinesis which is different from kinesis by the way which was introduced in gen 1 compared to telekinesis in gen 5 not confusing at all chip away clear smog tail slap mat block rototiller ion deluge happy hour toxic thread which is also interesting because it is the signature move of spinarak and ariados but wasn't introduced until generation seven moving on from there we've also got spotlight purify lunge stuff cheeks clangorous soul which is also noteworthy because it might sound familiar to clangorous soul blaze komo's signature move except that this is a regular move and was introduced after klinger's soul blaze in generation 8 which essentially means it's a regular version of that z move which is actually kind of cool finally we also have false surrender and skitter smack among our super out of left field moves you've probably never heard of before something else that is really easy to miss in pokemon are the berries there are a bunch of different kinds of berries and unless you're a more hardcore competitive player or you just really like berries you probably only ever use the more basic berries like oren and citrus therefore berries like the rabuta berry spell spellenberry wattmelberry blueberry and enigma berry might have not ever come across your radar the enigma berry in particular is interesting as even though it was introduced in gen 3 it didn't have any use until gen 4 and could not be obtained in gen 3 without hacking the game as it was really nothing more at the time than just a placeholder for data that came from the nintendo e-reader cards that were compatible with the pokemon games speaking of the e-reader there were several berries that you could only get through the e-reader cards and can only be obtained in pokemon ruby and sapphire which means most pokemon fans have probably never used these berries at all especially considering the rather niche market of the e-reader the e-reader berries include the pumpkin berry the drashberry the egg and berry the strip berry the chillenberry and the nut pea berry there was also an additional set of e-reader berries but they were only ever released in japan making them even more unknown and they are the ganema berry the kuo berry the yago berry the tuga berry i'm pronouncing this terribly by the way the naniku berry and the toppo berry in addition to berries another key part of any pokemon game that can assist you on your adventure are items there are tons of different items in pokemon that do tons of different things and since with most of them you literally have to find them just sitting out on the ground in order to obtain them you can probably see how it would be easy to miss some of them over the years this also applies to pokeballs like for instance the fastball no i don't mean the quickball which is widely used i mean the fastball these two are very similarly named which could only help to add to the confusion but are also very separate the fastball is an apricorn ball that was introduced in generation 2 and unlike the quickball whose effectiveness is best the sooner that you use it in a battle the fastball has to do with the wild pokemon's speed stat being more effective if it has a base speed of a hundred or more or if it is also a pokemon that is capable of fleeing in battle additionally since apricorns were only obtainable in the johto games until just recently with sword and shield's dlc the fastball has basically been non-existent in most of the pokemon games making it easy to not be aware of in terms of standard items there are also plenty that are under the radar as i mentioned including the binding band the chalky stone the common stone the gorgeous box a variety of nintendo game consoles that are used as decorations the intriguing stone the shiny leaf and the terusama to briefly explain these the binding band increases the power of binding moves like rap the chalky stone is something you can only get in pokemon go and the let's go games and only as a gift from your partner pokemon and the only thing that can be done with it is be sold for 30 poke dollars so i wouldn't blame you if you had no idea about this one the common stone is a little more interesting because it actually is unobtainable it first appeared in x and y and it has a description which states a perfectly normal stone that might appear valuable to some it's all in the eye of the beholder it's unknown if it had any type of effect or where it was meant to be obtained but based on the description it sounds like it might have been part of a side quest at one point meanwhile the gorgeous box can only be obtained in the gen 2 games and only by transferring certain pokemon to those games from pokemon stadium the box contains a gold trophy decoration for your bedroom but that is its only purpose speaking of decorations for your bedroom the nintendo consoles i mentioned earlier can also be obtained in gen 2 for this purpose and include an nes a super nes a nintendo 64 and even a virtual boy and they are only obtainable through mystery gift the intriguing stone meanwhile is another gen 6 item that depending on the game can be converted into either a sunstone or a pidgeottite aka pidgeot's megastone if they are given to the right person the item can be obtained in both x and y and afford you the sun stone in those games and omega ruby and alpha sapphire which is where you get the pidgeottite moving along the shiny leaf is a very rare item in heart golden soul silver that you are more likely to not find than the other way around as it's something that you're following pokemon has a slight chance of randomly picking up and giving to you this incites a side quest to find multiple shiny leaves which can get you a leaf crown and upgrade the status of your trainer card if you follow through with it finally the terusama is another unobtainable item during normal gameplay that appears in the gen 2 games as it is actually just a filler item that occupies empty spots in the item list in those games it is noteworthy for a couple of reasons though because it can actually be sold if obtained for 19 660 pokedollars additionally it also has separate english and japanese names which is interesting considering it's unobtainable and those names are also likely references to various game freak developers with the english name terusama possibly referring to programmer taruki murakawa and the japanese name of the item kabhichu possibly refers to koji nishino and his love of pikachu since the names combine parts of pikachu's name and snorlax's japanese name kobigon with snorlax being a pokemon that was based on koji nishino himself and last but certainly not least is one more set of items that would be very easy to ignore entirely as well in generation 5 an item known as the wonder launcher was introduced that worked exclusively with multiplayer battles and allowed you to buy items for these battles that were unobtainable otherwise these items included things such as upgraded versions of various battle items like the x defend 2 or the x attack 6 as well as completely original items like the ability urge which activates an allies ability in battle or the item urge which does the same thing for items and there you have it 50 things in
