top five best presents a trip to the dentist forever changes little girl's life before we begin do us a favor by clicking that like button and subscribe to our channel for more real life stories every day many people absolutely hate visiting the dentist and the more often you go the less you probably enjoy it after all we have an image of a drill wielding pain inducing menace burned into our minds after years of pop-culture references and stories from our parents generation nowadays though many once dreadful dental procedures are becoming routine and virtually painless these advancements have been a blessing to those who aren't sure what to expect but they probably do very little to help those who have deep-seated phobias of the dentist's chair many of which are children but today we're going to hear the tale of a little girl who wouldn't be alive today if not for a routine trip to the dentist in early 2019 four-year-old Hunter Rose Jones was just an ordinary girl excited about her first year of school and occupied with the simple joys like friends and sunny days but all that was about to change when a routine check-up revealed something no one could have anticipated Hunter was a patient of dr. Harlan sue Sarla at stellar kids dentistry in Everett Washington all she attended a regularly scheduled cleaning appointment dr. Seuss Arlen noticed the hunter had multiple teeth loose at once an affliction that isn't typical doing regular development she decided to order a panoramic x-ray of her jaw the x-ray allows dentists to see a patient's top and bottom jaw nasal cavity and their entire dental layout in a single 2-dimensional image when dr. Seuss Arliss saw the results of the x-ray she was astounded and horrified she delicately told Hunter's parents Cara and J Jones that she had spotted a tumor in the girl's jaw and she suggested they take hundreds of Seattle Children's Hospital immediately once there doctors and specialists were quick to diagnose her with stage 4 neuroblastoma neuroblastoma is a cancer that forms in certain types of nerve tissue not only is it the most common cancer in babies it is also the third most common cancer in children under 12 while each case is unique the prognosis is often grim and in cases as far along as hunters the long-term survival rate is less than 40% while it affects 1 in 7,000 children Kara and Jay were not prepared for the news they at Seattle Children's Hospital the stage for diagnosis meant that the tumor had spread to other parts of her body such as the bone marrow lymph nodes liver or an assortment of other vulnerable areas in hunter's case it was found in her abdomen and her hip bone soon her once simple world had been forever changed in the following 138 days including the girl's fifth birthday consisted of five rounds of chemo to stem cell transplants 12 rounds of radiation treatments and six rounds of immunotherapies the treatments were so aggressive that she lost part of her hearing as a side-effect and she now wears hearing aids but through all of it she stayed strong and fiercely battled disease that no child should ever have to endure her mother Kara discussed the daughter's condition saying as a mom it's been really hard at night she puts her feeding tubes on pause goes to the bathroom comes back puts the feeding tubes back in and turns it back on gone were the carefree days of her childhood but thanks to the effort of the dedicated medical team Hunter was officially declared cancer-free after the exhausting period of treatments doctors at Seattle Children's Hospital credit dr. Seuss arles chance discovery saying this is such an aggressive disease process early recognition and diagnosis is the key I think for treatment it's an ordeal that neither the Joneses or dr. Seuss or Allah will soon forget speaking of a young girl's victory she said quote the fact that this was something that was found in a dental chair I'm grateful that I saw this and she was able to get the care and treatment she needed honestly I probably think about her every day while everyone was able to rejoice momentarily the reality is that hunters battle might not be entirely over for the next five years there will be a strong potential of the disease returning however following a lengthy battle with their insurance company hunter receive funding from Memorial Sloan catering pediatric cancer center to partake in a trial treatment Hunter's family is currently living at Ronald McDonald House in Upper Manhattan while hunter begins a series of injections that if successful will lower the chances of the cancer returning by nearly 25 percent meaning that hunter will be that much closer to being entirely cured on March 31st of 2019 the make-a-wish Foundation sent the family on a fantasy trip to Walt Disney World in Florida and at the time of this video young hunter still undergoing treatment at Memorial sloan-kettering to decrease the chance of her cancer returning sadly despite advances in modern medicine cancer remains the number one cause of death and children for those that survive the side effects are often drastic and life-altering however it is his stories like hunters that we see the incredible resilience of the young spirit in the face of unimaginable hardship hopefully through the types of trials being performed at Memorial sloan-kettering we will one day see a world where children like Hunter are no longer afflicted with such anus and often fatal diseases thank you for watching tap one of the two videos on the screen for another amazing story
