important because what goes on around the country right now in policing i want to one uh protect you i want to actually make it probably safer for the police as well but i want to protect you first and foremost and here's what i do so if you know what i do and i'll tell you why this is an important topic to me and if you don't remember me telling the story when i first got out of prison i'm telling you what that that to this day i was just thinking about doing this video and it gave me chills to to think about what exactly happened and just to recap when i got out of prison i got out august 24th here it was in december in the middle of december and i was going to golf with my friend dennis up at a place called harmony golf course in central florida well i'm an early bird i get up literally at 4 30 in the morning i'm supposed to meet dennis at six o'clock at the denny's we got like a 7 7 15 tea time and it takes us about 35 40 minutes to get there from the denny's well it was december and dennis's birthdays at the end of december so i thought i'd stop at the walmart and get him a card you know that's dennis helped me out when i got out of prison dennis bought me golf clubs i knew him from my childhood never judged me to this day is what a great friend of mine loved the guy so anyway i said let me get in the car and go so here i i leave my house it's black out pitch black out and i'm heading to uh the walmart which is not far from my house a couple miles from my house and i go to this back route and i come up the side road hollywood boulevard in palm in palm bay florida and i'm the walmart's across the street and i pull up to a light on a major road on palm bay road in hollywood and i pull up and all of a sudden a cop call comes right in front of me and i go what's going on it's got its lights on and it points to me to go in the 7-eleven parking lot so i go into the 7-eleven parking lot and i'm wondering what's going on i didn't do anything i don't know what was going on so the lights are behind me i'm freaking out i'm scared i'm not out of prison a couple of months man two and a half months i'm telling you i'm scared and all of a sudden another cop car comes up and now i'm like what the hell is going on i'm really getting scared in the car you got to remember i just came from doing all that time in the joint i was over 11 years in prison itself got out don't trust authority at all and here's the cops for what i don't know i know i didn't do anything wrong trust me i'm driving like a saint that's what i was doing especially when i got out on paper on my parole i'm really kind of nervous so the cop call come got car one cop car goes on the passenger side i see him in the rearview mirror the other car comes and says license registration so i give it home i don't say anything and i'm just saying i have my hands on the wheel i don't say anything and they both go back all of a sudden another cop car comes up i'm like what the hell is going on another cop car comes up there's four cop cars out there i'm literally scared now thinking i'm going back to prison i'm thinking should i run should i take off and i'm actually thinking how to get out of there and where i can go and ditch the car and run i don't know why i was thinking that i didn't do anything wrong but i'm still i'm nervous i am really nervous so here i go a fifth call comes up and they get out of the car and i'm sitting down literally nervous sweating literally sweating and i'm in the car and it's my dad's old buick my dad gave me a buick dent it up my dad ended up having alzheimer's and had the car got swiped so anyway here i am guys come up and i'm wondering i didn't do anything wrong they they must know i'm a convict what's happened today did i get orally released something i'm so nervous and i'm thinking of running literally so cop call comes up with a civilian and i'm like what is going on there's cops on the other side and they walk up to the car and i'm there and i look at them and the guy next to the cop the civilian goes it's not him and i'm like what's going on they turn around walk out walk away the cop comes back gives me my license and registration that you could go i swear to you i was shaking like you couldn't believe and and i'm not a guy to get scared of much at all matter of fact i went and i met dennis at the denny's up on 192 it's an area about five miles away and it's heading towards the golf course we're going to and dennis i walk into the denny's and dennis looks at me and goes larry what's wrong i was literally shaking man almost crying i mean and dennis knows me from when i was a kid and he was something wrong i dennis you don't and he goes calm down calm down everything's all right and i'm telling you i was freaking out to that minute i couldn't believe it and i'm like thinking and i told him the whole story and he goes you must be going crazy i literally almost went crazy i'm at i could imagine what would have happened first of all what would happen if i ran they would chase me and all of a sudden they're gonna say why'd you run you're this i i have no answer here's the worst thought what ended up happening was a 7-eleven down the other corner was actually robbed and i guess the description of the car was of the of my dad's car kind of that car color or kind of that year was an older car i think a 96 buick skylark it was 94 buick skywalk anyway uh it what happens if that guy came up to the car and said man it looks like him i would have been arrested now who is going to believe a guy me that i left the house at 4 30 in the morning to go get a car to go golfing who's gonna believe that i'm an ex-con who's just going golfing at 4 30 in the morning that i didn't rob something i'm telling you that's how much i freaked out and i say freak out i need freaked out so anyway i go see dennis he says i ended up calming down but it really it got me to thinking about policing and it got me thinking how scared i really was because of this incident and how much cops worry me you know they really do worry me that's fireworks so anyway here i am i go golfing but this got me to thinking about this video and it still gives me little chills though and anyway so what do you do if you get stopped you a civilian anybody i don't care who you are young old middle-aged if you get stopped what do you do obviously the first thing you do is you stay calm obviously hopefully you didn't do anything wrong if you did something stupid like a traffic violation so what it's a traffic violation obviously don't make the case of making them do something different running or something but let me explain something else you don't have to stop right there in the middle of nowhere with a cop you could pull up to a 7-eleven or you could pull up to a busy area if you don't trust the police and you want to pull somewhere up to someone where there's other people around that might be a good idea especially if you're a woman and things happen i know women who've had issues with police and they said they hit on me they did certain things pulled somewhere there's other people around you can also pick up your phone and dial 911. you can do that and say i'm being followed by a cop is this legit and if it is legit i'd like to have a sergeant come here because i'm nervous i'm scared i want a supervisor i need a supervisor you can do that you can call and do that right there 9-1-1 say there's a guy following me he's got lights on is it a cop and if it is a cop i'd like a supervisor here because i'm nervous and i don't think i did anything wrong but i want to i want a supervisor you can do that bring more cops there so you could feel more comfortable obviously i don't know how much comfy it'll be because we've seen what happens but that's okay not all cops are like that so here's the next thing and now you stay calm you're either parked you pulled over into that area keep your hands on the wheel but before you do that here's what i do i take my cell phone and i take it and i put it on the voice notes and and start it i hit the voice notes and start it and put the phone down facing down so they don't see that it's on but everything is being recorded on my phone right then and there if you really feel scared that they might do something you can go live you can go live on facebook you can go live on youtube i thought about that after coming out with the video with against the sheriff of this county i live in i thought about if i got stopped one i'm going to call 9-1-1 i want assistance right away number two i'm gonna actually go live so everybody out there you guys my friends my fans can watch what's going on and it's also be recorded in the icloud so if they took my phone you'd all see it and everything would happen i'm actually thinking of getting what they have these things called car cams that you can actually film what's going on in your car and it goes up to the cloud automatically i'm actually looking into that because the more i use the uh larry lawton's action crew to to get justice for people who have been wronged by the police or the prison system or whatever you become a target you really do and thank you all my fans i really mean that thank you guys you don't know how much that means to me it means a lot so anyway here we are you put your either your phone on if you don't have it just thinking quick put your phone on down and obviously keep your hands on the wheel now when the cop car comes up cop comes up to your window of course you roll it down you can only roll it down this much if you want you don't you can roll it down you can actually legally put a sign up there if you want say i don't trust the police whatever the issues is you can give me a ticket here's my license and number i'll put it through the thing they can run that you can do that but i will roll it down and i just sit there and if a cop says to you you know what you did don't answer him don't answer him it's not your job to answer him to tell him what you did wrong don't say anything say i don't understand what you mean i don't understand what you mean now i also tell people this and i hope you don't do this if you if you please don't drink and drive please don't drink and drive that's a big issue i have but if you were drinking and you might think you might blow or whatever it might be blowing too much if a cop asks you to get out of the car you never ever blow because if you don't blow they don't have that now your license will be suspended for a year but listen if you blow whatever it is and you get arrested it's going to be suspended anyway don't blow and don't even talk or slur your words or anything you actually get arrested get get out the next day for 500 or nothing something around the rors get out yourself and that's it and you and then you handle it from there with a lawyer and everything else but do never blow you never blow into a uh breathalyzer because one if they want you if they want to do those tests don't do those tests i got a bad back i couldn't do those tests sober try to try to try to do the alphabet backwards right now i couldn't do it z or x y u u v w x y z i i couldn't do it i couldn't do it going backwards are you kidding me i have a tough time doing it going forward but don't ever do that obviously so you don't do that so you don't do anything but besides that this is a regular general stop keep your hands on the wheel and when he asks you to do something you say my licensing registration's in my glove compartment i'm going there there's nothing in it meaning it's not a gun if you have a license for a gun you tell him immediately i have a license for a concealed weapons permit it's in the car or i have a gun in the car and i have a license it's in the glove compartment he might tell you to stop don't do anything keep your hands on the wheel listen to his commands at all time you got to remember uh a traffic stop for a cop is pretty dangerous as well they don't know who they're running against i'm a believer in i don't even believe they should be stopping people unless it's a dangerous situation you you hear them stopping people for a tail light or a license plate light what a what when that is and obviously it's just an excuse to stop somebody i don't believe they should do that i think what they should do with anything like that is either write it down you got to film and they got their camera right there on the police car they could take it they could issue you a ticket and you could fight it or not fight it and they could do it easily there's a lot better ways than having them stop somebody just for for a uh a stop just to see what's in the car and i don't like that stuff that it's an excuse to see what's in your car unless you're dangerous unless you're driving erratically and you might be drunk you might hurt somebody unless it's as obvious if it's a stolen car or something really illegal i get it or if the car is not even you know safe to be on the road i mean you know whatever you want to call it the the light's half off everything's hanging down something's wrong they shouldn't be stopping people i think that's a big contentious issue they have today because they're stopping people and they're turning into really serious situations i don't believe they should have to do that just first traffic stop i think we've become too much of a police state by doing that that's my opinion and i i'd love to debate it with any cop out there it's i don't think we need cops to be our guys against us i just don't believe in that i think they should be part of us part of the community would you stop your friend would you stop your neighbor for a tail light or or even a uh license plate light you can even give a warning through the mail say hey listen you got to tell a light out this is a warning get it fixed if we send you again they can do that all through the mail no interaction with citizens put them in danger and put you in danger because if you're a civilian and you just don't know what i'm telling you all of a sudden you do that so that's crazy you shouldn't do that they should not stop just to stop so now the cop stops you he asks you realize the register he goes back this they all do that they'll tell you don't get out of the car don't do everything you know years ago when i was younger you used to get out of the car and you could meet them and they oh now it's free get in the car in the car though they want you in the car well obviously you're in the car and now you're you're sitting there worried now he's watching you remember that as well he's watching you through the window whatever he is so don't make any movements to go into a glove compartment or under the seat or anything like that you're just going to get him all nervous and that's not what you want or i want you to do because if you do that and all of a sudden this situation goes out here you are uh in a bad situation you and you're never going to win now if the cop comes up to you and he's an [ __ ] happens i'm sure and he's just talked nasty or whatever remember you have it recorded you have it recorded obviously i hope all cops have body cams and i i'm i'm a big pusher of that to every police department in fact the police where i live palm bay police agreed now they're gonna be getting body cams they're gonna they're getting them they're doing it they in the process out to get body cams which i got to thank chief moyer for that that's the guy i had the interview with and he did change his mind he is going to be getting body cams which i saw in the newspaper and i want to thank him for that so i give him a lot of credit for that so now let's just say the cop is an ass or whatever but you haven't now you haven't recorded remember that don't say a word there don't get into an argument why do you gotta talk to me like that don't do anything like that you stay on the high ground you stay polite you say give me let's say nothing let him give you your stuff back go on your way i implore you to make a complaint with that police department and i mean you go in and you don't quit please don't quit because you're gonna get rid of a cop that doesn't belong being a cop if we if you situation happens like that what i just said you email this office you email me at larry lawton911.com and i will help you do the complaints go to the chief and get some action done on that cop see where he is how bad he is i had a situation a friend of mine 80 years old 80 years old great friend of mine i know him from my old days visited me in prison what a sweetheart guy joe one of my best friends he's in his car with another couple and his wife and another couple in the back he pulls up to a stop sign he rolls the stop sign a little bit you know pulls up it doesn't wait three seconds or whatever it is and he turns lights go on behind him what does he do he pulls over the cop comes up and says you know what you did he's looking at me you know what you did and my buddy goes what do you mean he goes you rolled it you rolled it now my buddy is telling me this story and he wouldn't lie in a million years and he goes larry i felt like so low this cop 20 something year old is talking to me like that and that is just unacceptable behavior to me unacceptable so here's the cop you rolled it guys in registration he gives joe gives it to him he goes back to the car he must have had a call because he comes up he throws the license and registration at joe and says you're lucky i got a call and he throws and gets out of there now let me tell you how bad that was not only has joe told every person i know that whole story every person i know joe has told that story so what does the cops look like [ __ ] now if the cop was nice and said sir the reason i pulled you over was because you rolled this line and sometimes cop cars come here real fast and you might get hit i don't want to see you get hit i'm not going to give you a ticket or anything i just want to help you out morty you know what joe would be saying wow this guy's a nice guy he's helping me out he's trying to be a nice guy this guy was an [ __ ] and it was a police department right where not this not my police department it was melbourne police department and i'll tell you what to me that was terrible that that is but not the way to be a police officer and it's a shame that cops do that but they do do that you as a person have the opportunity now to not only file a complaint if joe would have had that recorded i would have loved to fight them all the way to the chief to everybody in the city get rid of these guys because that's not the kind of guys we want to be cops i told you i believe in cops that are good cops i believe in cops that are helping the community remember what i just said if it if they don't want to help the community they don't belong being a cop period don't go on being a cop you don't want to help this community don't be a cop not everybody's built to be a cop either trust me not everybody is built to be a cop your demeanor people curse you out whatever you've got to have such restraint why why am i so adamant about this because a police officer is the one person that could take your liberty away or take your life under the color of law carries a gun and a badge and it can take your life or liberty under the color of law on his word on what he says this isn't a citizen's arrest he has arrested you on behalf of the of the police department and the city of wherever he works so they need to get rid of people like that they don't belong being cops that's end of that but if you record that tape incident believe me we will do so if that happens with anyone out there please you can help us by and you send it to me and i will help you two guys and we will get rid of that cop we will get rid of them and we will get retraining on that whole department because at this point cops shouldn't be like that if they're not seeing the the issue and this is the first time in my whole life that i've seen actual reforms gonna be happening i really believe that i don't believe in defunding the cops i do believe in reappropriation funds that means they don't need to buy tanks they don't even all these command centers and all this crap they never use come on how many times they use it never use it use that money for community policing use that money to build it build a gymnasium for kids use that money for education for people or food drives or whatever you want when i see cops doing the right thing by people i applaud it up and down all around i love it but when i see them doing stupid things with money and stuff that's not right either because that's our money everybody got to remember cops work for us so that's important to me so that's how you actually handle a police stop then he gives you your license registration you go by you wait till he leaves or he'll stay there you put your single light on you get out of there and go and don't you know make sure you keep everything right you're slicing plate make sure you have your registration and your license on you and everything is good but even if it's not even if it's not don't run that that's a no-win situation don't run don't think you cannot do it get another ticket whatever it's gonna take handle them but don't run guys please that's the worst thing you can do all right i think i told you all the ways the unwritten rules and what to do if you get stopped by a cop real important here this is a good one because it's important i want to save people and i want to help people you know how i
