hey everyone and welcome to tavot astoria for the past two years i've spent many hundreds of hours exploring and explaining the lore of gentian impact with the particular focus and interest given to the game's many characters whether it's a deep dive into the history of a character or a theory requiring speculation of their potential future actions their lore has been a driving force of this channel since day one in this video series rather than telling you the history or story of a character i'll address their popular misconceptions in order to help you better understand them of genshin's roster of characters ryden a has been more divisive than just about any of the others since her first arrival in the story while some have simply been along for the ride no matter the path others have taken a harsher stance suggesting that ryden a should actually be considered a villain but i don't think it's that simple today i'm going to provide arguments and evidence that i hope may help reshape how some of you view this character this is five reasons you don't understand write an a number one a is a villain who has done horrible things including starting a war from the moment in azuma's electro archon arrived for many a certain image was painted of an inflexibly rigid unfaltering and cruel all-powerful god causing many to project upon her expectations that she play out the role of a villain while some of those words can't describe a as we first met her those words take new meaning undeniably when we use them to describe the puppet so true is that statement that those words can seem insufficient to describe a afterwards that becomes ever clearer after the events of her second story quest but allow me if you will to draw a line between the two in version 2.0 we watched as the ride in shogun takes the vision from tomah's hip with intent to inlay it upon the still mysterious and unexplained statue of the omnipresent god upon her traveler's interference in this moment she shows her power descending from the decking around the statue of the viewing area to the area below walking on pure electroenergy and what was one of the most memorable moments in the entire game this might seem obvious to some of you but it bears purpose to point out that this individual was not a this was as it had been for several hundred years before the puppet ryden a was only the inhabitant of the body we saw when the puppet's eyes were aglow with purple energy and even then we learned from a during her first story quest that she had not been a regular inhabitant of the puppet's form at all to do so in her mind at that time would have exposed her to erosion we also learned the vision hunt decree had her tacit approval tacit being a word meaning that she only ever provided passive silence approval by not interfering with the puppet's current path but that said she openly admitted that she did not have full knowledge of what had been happening within innozuma unless it was related directly to eternity itself so the war was left to be the domain of her puppet and the tenryuu commission a designed that puppet to act autonomously without oversight allowing her to remain focused on eternity and sealed away such that she could prevent erosion a very much needed to trust the puppet could apply her vision of eternity without issue assay's dedication to her principle of eternity at that time saw her give up her physical form and bind herself to the musa issue so with all of that outlined recent events in inazuma which brought about the vision hunt decree and a war with the watatsumi island resistance were caused by the fatoui's knowing manipulation of the complex yet malleable ride in shogun puppet their influence is what nudged both sides into a war causing the death of countless innozumens and so in a way being referred to as the puppet is the perfect way to describe her while a established a complex set of rules and guidelines that dictated how she would enact her will the fatoui's intel allowed them to pull her strings unknowingly as a result of her predictable programming allowing the puppet to be misled into bringing harm to others however the main point here is that a trusted the puppet to act in the interest of eternity and needed not every detail of how it was implemented as we all know a would later discover that while eternity may have been the principle nearest unto heaven eternity is also nearest them to folly as well perhaps that in and of itself is the lesson to take away regarding the many great lies of celestia that are becoming apparent as the game's arc on questline continues to drive ahead number two a's first story quest was a pointless date quest one of the single most eye-twitchingly cringy comments i've heard frequently about a since her first story quest is this idea that it was a date quest i'm gonna be brutally honest here guys that quest was in no way a date quest in fact i suspect for some of those who actually firmly believe this they must have been on some dates where the other person involved had no perception of the date whatsoever a's first story quest was a critical and much needed entry which establishes a as a much more sympathetic character and notably more human and thus flawed than was previously understood that is to say a has indeed become capable of seeing past her heavenly principle and was not completely hardened by the tragic events causing her to cross a point of no return certainly those events contributed to strengthening her staunch dedication to eternity for a time but they didn't make her a murderer or someone incapable of compassion as was clearly outlined by her unwillingness to kill cujo kamaji of the tenryu commission at the resolution of their duel furthermore throughout the quest there weren't even subtle tones which would suggest an overtly romantic theme was the intent of the quest direction the true purpose of this quest was to start the growth arc for ryden a such that her transformation by 2.5 made complete sense when standing back and looking at it as a mosaic and had obvious foreshadowing from the outset while it is a fair criticism that a's first story quest was indeed paced a bit slow this allowed the traveler and paimon to take a around the city and highlight the fact that despite her very best efforts change remains inevitable but this opportunity for epiphany only existed due to the approximate 500 year period in which a remained isolated this allowed a to form a mental snapshot of what things used to be like without the decision to essentially lock herself in a room another decision the community consistently criticizes a4 it's unlikely this realization ever could have occurred to make a comparison it's like moving away from your hometown for the first time you've spent your entire first couple decades of life there you come to feel as if you know every inch it's comfortable it's familiar while living there most changes don't seem substantial unless they directly impact you but after moving away for many years when you return those many subtle changes that keep happening over time in your absence add up into a perceptually instantaneous and dramatic change that renders your hometown unrecognizable this was the effect that finally allowed the fragment of truth behind her sister makato's principle of transients to finally break through in a way that it never had before even when she lived among her friends her sister and the people of innozuma prior to enduring the cataclysm and subsequent war she remained unwavering in her positivity that eternity was the answer and her first story quest is what established the threads that led to a major shift in her personality number three the reason a realized eternity was impossible made no sense i've seen the statement made on many occasions that a should have realized eternity was a flawed principle when hearing that a war broke out as a result of the vision hunt decree as opposed to truly beginning to see the flaw in it only when realizing something simple like dongo vendors and other stores have changed in inazuma over the centuries but here's the thing a was a samurai a body double living in the shadows for her sister ryden makato for many centuries a's domain was that of violence war and death these things would not be catalyzing factors when considering what might influence her into believing that her heavenly principle was wrong the battlefield was her home and as such those wishing to go to battle for the honor of something they believed in is a concept a understands very well it would not be an in-character reason for her to execute a heel turn on her 500-year-long plan furthermore what with the pre-existing history of conflict with the people of watatsumi it is much more likely she would see their challenge as a continuation of battles with watatsumi from the past thus she would not be shaken remotely from the path of eternity by something that was in all probability already a calculated and expected future occurrence number four a killed kazuwa's friend sorry bluntly no she did not we have no reason to believe that she had any role in that at all as a stated openly that she was only aware of events relating to eternity and as such leaving her meditation to strike down an already defeated challenger would have certainly been a waste of her time furthermore he much like senora agreed to an open duel with acceptance that loss would result in death by misonohitotachi so it is not as if this was a scenario akin to a cold-blooded killing he knew what he was getting into stood up and willingly became a martyr for the resistance best case for that argument we have a scenario here that is unclear who is directly responsible for bringing the blade of the musa ishin down upon kazua's friend a man who clearly knew precisely what he was getting himself into and knew exactly what his actions would cost number five a story and the innozuma archon quest lines were rushed poorly written and executed wow okay this one i could not possibly disagree with more counter intuitively the fact that many carry misconceptions about a resulting in a failure to recognize her overarching growth and sentimentality as a character stands testament to the effective strength of the oppressive tone established during innozuma's first questline lending a lot of sympathy to the plight of the resistance first to address the execution and direction itself a's story quests as i've mentioned highlighted a's journey quite effectively not only addressing her inner conflict but doing so with a lot of care to show the emotional and physical difficulties the character experienced throughout they also took great care to consistently show that a carried herself in a more casual demeanor than did the puppet the puppet often carried herself in a confrontational battle-ready posture or a closed-off arms-crossed position this in coordination with the two having a very different way of speaking on top of the fact that a was always depicted with glowing eyes in scenes where both characters were present culminates in making it quite easy to understand which of the two was on screen at any time the little details were consistently on point as for the writing itself a as a character has shown more growth than any other character in gentian impact thus far and certainly far more growth than the other archons now as much as i liked jung lee and ventius characters they were very much completely developed characters on arrival with most of their growth occurring centuries ago completely off screen and as a result they remain by and large the same character at the end of their respective quests as they were at the start while i expect much of what those specific characters will learn leading to potential growth or change lies yet in the future the extent of their growth that we've seen thus far on screen is limited to them coping with life postnoses which in contrast ace quests were not focused much on learning about the events of the past as much of that had been well documented throughout the course of inazuma's archon questline they've instead been focused on how to drive her character forward exploring the threads that would substantially change even a's way of thinking on a fundamental level they made us believe in arkhan could question their own heavenly principle and that is no small feat venti and jung lee despite all the tragic circumstances of their lives do not question their own respective ideals and it is also interesting to note one aspect of growth that jungli and venti do have which is ongoing is the one aspect of growth that a has resolved off-screen that is to say that she gave up her noses willingly nearly five centuries ago and has long disregarded her need for it all of that outlined a story classically follows the recipe of concluding the majority of established story threads but leaving the door open for major conflict and potential growth ahead when taking into consideration her past history with scaramos doubly so when considering that he has finally attained his personal goal of reobtaining the heart that he was designed by her to carry that being a's gnosis what i'm saying is that while a and her nation of innozuma are very much intertwined the writers for the game have tied up much of innozuma's primary plot line would have left quite a bit of potential hazards and unresolved threads for a to overcome in the future there has been a lot of talk about plot holes with regard to innozuma's story but we need to remember that genji impact's story plays the long haul a plot hole is only given life if the story has effectively ended and the plot points in question are never addressed if one thing has remained vividly clear it's that a and innozuma have a lot of things to work through the a storyline may have concluded but the b storyline is just beginning and that wraps it up for this video there was a lot to discuss here and hopefully i helped to at least slightly improve the clarity of write and a's growth arc for everyone if i did or if i didn't please let me know in the comments below and if you think i missed something that may have helped the argument be sure to point that out as well
