today on free field training we're talking about the five investment quality pieces of gear that new cops need to be buying not only am I going to tell you what those five pieces of gear are but I'm going to give you my personal recommendations in my 13 years of law enforcement experience most of which teaching you guys how to be new street cops and all of my experience with having products coming in going through the channel the newest latest and greatest stuff and being able to compare those products head-to-head directly with each other to give you the direction you should go in and exactly what I would buy if I had to go buy all of my stuff brand new today we're also gonna be giving away all this stuff you see here plus a special $600 bonus item that you guys are gonna be really excited about so if I had to go buy all my stuff brand new today let's say my house burnt down and I had that insurance check in hand so it consolidated all the stuff I've got and I had to decide on one thing to use for each of the things that I need to do at work the first thing I would go and try to buy would be body armor and my current personal recommendation given my experience not just on the street but with actually shooting this body armor is safe life defenses level 3 a body armor safe life defense body armor I had been completely sold on we took this out first day with it they sent me a panel and said hey could you shoot this and maybe show it to people on your channel so we threw it up on the wall and said ah we're gonna shoot it six times with 158 green 3:57 bag I'm gonna ten ring that body armor right now they're a little logo there so we get some rounds to go through it and guess what it stopped it and left like a little dent in the wood boards that we screwed this to to do the test and then we shot it with a crapload everything else this Armour stops everything from twenty two and three eighty to nine forty forty five to forty four mag to 12-gauge slugs we put up a firing line and just shot the living crap out of this for a good couple of minutes put fifty sixty rounds into just one of these panels and the vest stopped all of it highly impressed with this armor that is a huge investment quality piece of gear that you can get at a good price that we'll save your life my current recommendation safe life makes a lot of carriers if you have to wear it under your uniform shirt your department requires that you conceal your armor they make a concealable carrier but this is just like the carrier that I use it work it's a uniform carrier it comes in a variety of colors anything that your uniform shirt is going to be in the color of it you can get it in this in case your department doesn't want you wearing a black vest over your uniform shirt the uniform carrier comes with velcro for a tape strip that comes with the external carrier when you order it you get to tell them what you want on there and they print it on there for you most people gonna put their name on there there's eyelets for pinning your badge on you could also sew a badge patch over the top that's very popular with a lot of departments near me there's two shirt pockets here that work just like normal shirt pockets your pen your notepad your extra keys all of that can go in these shirt pockets without having to buy an extra little pouch form there's a document pocket up front so on both row from the center and you can slide documents in here pull down a little stuff and there's MOLLE webbing across the bottom three loads of MOLLE webbing so you can attach any extra pouch as you want on here get that weight off of your belt there armor is well suspended there's elastic straps on the side and here's a little something that there's not advertising about this but when I got it I found out from playing with their other carrier you can take the tactical carrier straps that they have available on their website that puts extra level-3 a body armor underneath your armpits and you can put them directly on to this it looks almost identical to the ones that are on here except you get more armor protection around the side there's a center placket for you to attach your microphone or a body camera and there's also epaulets a lot of people like to put the mic for their radio up on their shoulder you can attach them right here and these epaulets open up so if you want to attach loops for unit or division assignment up there that some departments use you can attach them on there without having to cut anything and resew it down a retrofit anything like you have a problem with with a lot of other external carriers you can also use these epaulets to attach devices like a guardian angel device we've done a lot of reviews on guardian angel devices on the channel pop that up there or you can attach just an pen light up here the order to give yourself illumination when you're out on the street case you're wondering it is mesh lined to keep you cool in the summer and keep you a little less sweaty in the winter and the back of it also has the uniform creases if that's required by your department it's on there if it's not required by your department it really doesn't hurt anything you can't feel that through your armor they also make a version of the uniform carrier that has just slash pockets at the bottom of it I really like the slash pockets at the bottom of the uniform shirt carrier I used to have my uniform shirt carrier for work handles just slash pockets at the bottom these little slash pockets are great for just throwing extra stuff in you've got some extra change from the store so they having to find a pants pocket and wiggle it around your holster you can throw it in there I use it to keep incident cards Fi cards you can put any commonly use paperwork just fold it up and shove it in there lots of guys like to stick pens across here these have a lot of uses and so for me it would be a toss-up between MOLLE webbing or slash pockets but either way you're gonna get a really useful really protective vest that's going to keep you cool in the summer and not so sweaty in the winter and you're gonna get it at a really good price we're gonna put a link for this down below this is part of the giveaway now just as important as body armor is having a good reliable duty pistol and duty pixel technology has come quite a ways in the last 20 years and I've seen it come quite a way in the last 13 years and anticipate it's gonna come quite a ways in the near future the next five or ten years so my current recommendation for duty pistols if you're coming into police work right now is Glocks 9-millimeter line of pistols the 1917 or 34 all of them I would recommend if you're buying them today beat em OS capable whether you did the Gen 4 or the Gen 5 no never mind to me but I would get an mo s capable block now that doesn't mean that you have to put an optical sight on it today right now but it gives you the opportunity later without having to retrofit the gun and it doesn't cost really hardly anything more to get the MOS capable pistol than it does to get the non MOS capable pistols 9-millimeter has come leaps and bounds in the last few years and for law enforcement use for most law enforcement applications if your department is using good ammo and that's important thing to check first but if they're using good ammo if you're using federal HSTs gold dots or korban monolithic out rounds bonded rounds things like that modern ammo 9-millimeter is gonna get the job done really well and if you're new to firearms it's gonna make it a lot easier to learn how to use it and make good hits on that pistol you're going to want a good weapon light and my current recommendation for a weapon light is definitely the surefire x300 you we've used a lot of weapon lights on the channel you've seen the reviews of them this one throws like crazy it puts out a thousand lumens it's got a good Corona around the outside surefire is ultra ultra reliable you don't hear I have never seen a failure of one of these X 300 weapon lights the U is just the newest model that has a higher output I really like the UI of this where you push forward in order to get the light on and then you lock it on by pushing straight up or straight down it's very very intuitive to use in an emergency and it allows you to easily use your offside thumb in order to activate the light so you're not toggling things up and down or pushing things in or out around the area of your trigger guard you're pushing only away which is very unlikely to lead to you accidentally pulling the trigger and don't tell me it's never happened I've seen it and of course with that pistol you're gonna need a good holster you're gonna want to get a holster that is not some floppy nylon thing you're going to want something that is extraordinarily durable and secure my current recommendation for Duty holsters for everybody getting into law enforcement is safari lands SLS and or ALS systems now Safari lands SLS holster is what I currently use and the reason I use the SLS and the reason that I recommend it to the people that I work with you can see right here the hood is operated by pushing forward and pushing back when it's pulled back the gun is locked into place and the beautiful thing of this is the or someone tries to yank this side of your holster in a gonna grab the more secure this gets because the hood has to be pushed down to get unlocked this is a great asset to someone who has to work a bunch of offense or has to be in tight with people doing a lot of domestics like I do now the other option that's out there is safari lands ALS holster the ALS holster is an internal locking system that locks on the ejection port it is very secure I wouldn't say it's as secure or more secure than this it's certainly not it's easier to disengage because it's easier to disengage it is a boatload faster now are the split times gonna be a second apart or a half a second apart probably not but even an eighth of a second a tenth of a second if you're really worried about speed and how fast you get in and out of the holster the ALS can be a great thing it also automatically locks that's what ALS means it automatically locks when you put the pistol back in the holster there's nothing set what you have to do where with my hood holster I take the gun out and then I put it back in and I have to push the hood back up to lock the pistol into place with the ALS holster you pull the pistol out put your pistol back in it locks itself back in place and it's very hard for people to even see where the little slide is to get the pop to get the pistol back out of your holster so Safariland holsters highly recommend them I also highly recommend putting them directly on your belt not dropped halfway down your leg with straps around your leg trust me first time you go have chasing after somebody you're not gonna want that thing anymore now none of the other gear that you have does you any good if you can't see what you're looking for and if you can't get to what you're looking for we're gonna start with see a good Duty light is absolutely imperative for everybody everybody that's a cop needs a good duty light this is something that is widely disregarded in the law enforcement community people buy and come with all sorts of cheap stuff that they find it Walmart and Dollar Stores especially after they've got a few years the job when you're new by an investment quality duty light that is gonna get you five ten fifteen years of good service my current recommendation for a duty light is the stream light stinger HL the stinger HL puts out six hundred and forty lumens which doesn't sound like a lot compared to some of the competition but it has other defining qualities that you're really gonna like in a duty light this thing puts out lots of throw and that is the name of the game with duty lighten it get decent Corona so you can see what's going on when you're doing police work it's also of a form factor that makes it easy to throw it underneath your arm and be able to do other things like read IDs or take notes while the lights underneath your armpit and you can easily use it as a very last-ditch impact weapon if you really have to it has awesome rubberized knurling on the grip that gives you really solid grip on this light even if you're directing traffic and it's pouring rain the switching mechanism is extremely durable you can get them either single switch or dual switch I prefer the single head switch operated light the best part about these is that like the surefire x300 you this doesn't heat up and then step down performance you get your full light output until this light gets pretty low on batteries it doesn't turn on and then two minutes later your light output drops down dramatically this stays at that 640 lumens at that same throw for the long term and it cradle charges which means you don't ever have to buy batteries you're not unscrewing this thing to pull batteries out to charge them to put them back in ruining watertight seals on this light this thing is a workhorse of a police duty light I've been using the stinger LED for many many years this is my recommendation this is what I tell everybody to go get now as an honorable mention to this one some people like smaller lights strimling also makes the strai on the striae on HL gets great great light output it does pretty good run times it also cradle charges it has good knurling on it it's a little bit smaller so for people who prefer that we aren't going to use the under the armpit method and aren't worried about using as an impact weapon in an emergency the strai on is also a great choice to boot on a personal note I have had Streamlight products the switches after five six years of use to switch breaks and even though on their warranty Streamlight says switches aren't covered in the warranty I have contacted them via email and they have either sent me free switch kits out or said send it in and we'll replace the switching for free which is completely awesome not only do they have a good warranty but they go over and beyond their warranty on a regular basis it's made me a very loyal customer to Streamlight especially for police duty lights finally we need to get where we're going and again where you're going you need a good pair of boots my recommendation for boots has been and unless something changes in the very near future probably always will be Danner boots I've been using Danner's boots for several years there's a lot of good boot brands out there these are the ones that fit my feet the best then I get the most time out of after I buy them and that are the most comfortable because these are one of the few boot brands out there that are actually making boots and not just really high-top black shoe shoes these are the janitor Danner's Stryker bolt GT X's they're brand new on the market they have a a Vibram sole they've got an actual shank inside like a hiking boot or like an actual work boot they're gore-tex lined and they're gore-tex lined all the way up to here this is where the tongue stops is all the way up here about six inches up on the boot so you can be in four inches of water standing in four inches of water and your feet are dry and I know because my town floods and I've done it with these boots before the laces on the new striker bolts are all polymer which is going to make it easier for our brothers and sisters having to work in prisons or in courthouses where they have to go through metal detection on a regular basis but I've also noticed that they don't break at all I haven't any problems with these polymer lace holes breaking or coming out the way sometimes the metal grommet ones would so an overall upgrade with the new boot coming out and one of the really great features these is there's a little garage a little pouch at the top of Danner boots where you after you tie your laces you can stuff the knot in there so they don't come untied and they don't catch on things which is great when you have to go into the woods or you're walking through somebody's house and they've got the little aisle of space you can walk through and their stuff on both sides of that aisle so now for the giveaway we're giving a bunch of this stuff away on YouTube we're getting away a stream light stinger HL this one to you guys we're giving away a surefire x300 u weapon light give it away to you guys we are giving away a Safariland SLS Duty holster for a Glock pistol with a surefire x300 u weapon light on it we are giving away a pair of danner Stryker bolt GTX boots just like these but in your size and we're giving away a safe life defense level 3a vest in a uniform carrier either with the slash pockets or the Molly depending on your preference we're also giving away a gift certificate to venture a munitions to
