5 Army myths debunked

let's talk about some myths you might have heard about the United States Army what's up friends welcome to an all new video in this one I got five myths for you that I found on the internet some of these I've heard before some of these I've heard either before the army during the army or even after the army that's the five myths that we're gonna be talking about here in this video to kind of debunk these myths and let you know some of the truth behind these myths so let's not waste any time and just dive right into it with the very first one on this list and that is that the Army is putting saltpeter in your food in basic training so I remember this myth even back in basic training we talked about like in the barracks or whatever and you're kind of trying to talk about it left one last time you really had an interest in any kind of sexual intercourse and had any kind of erection or anything like that while you're in basic training and now I was an all-male basic training so I had reasons why I wasn't you know interested in it but along with other people we know from other base trains they have the same kind of story so you trying to jump to the conclusion of thinking that maybe the Army is putting something in your food to kind of make you not interested in sex so that you know if you're in a co-ed military you know co-ed basic training then you're not going to be interested in you know having these kind of relations with the female or male soldiers maybe but the fact that is it's not true the army doesn't put that into your food yes they don't want you to have any kind of sexual relations while you're in basic training with any of the other soldiers or anything of course but they don't put anything in your food to prevent you from doing that they just put rules in place to try to prevent you from doing that because there are stories of people I know about that have had you know sexual relations while they were in basic training you know supposed to but those cases have happened there is some studies that kind of go back to this and you know kind of explain why a lot of people don't have that sexual interest while they're in basic training in a lot of it has to do with stress you're very stressed out where your basic training a lot of physical demand that is going on in basic training so it's kind of one of the last things on your mind for some people there's obviously some people that may still have that interest whether in basic but a lot of people are stressed out they're nervous they're you know exhausted they're tired so they don't have that in their mind and they kind of jumped inclusion of why don't I have you know an interest in sex while he might here in basic but that's essentially kind of the down-and-dirty as to why but they're not putting any kind of drugs in your food so necklace dive into number two which is people join the army because they can't get real jobs or go to college so on that topic I was even one of those people that kind of thought that before I joined the army I didn't get good grades in high school so I didn't think I was gonna be able to go to college I didn't have a lot of money my parents did have a lot of money to be able to send me to college so I thought that the only avenue that I could really take was to join the military I didn't have any other really good skill to eat me a good job or anything like that so I needed to build a skill that couldn't afford a college now one great example as far as the college part goes is recently I saw an interview on the Joe Rogan podcast and that was with Tim Kennedy and if you don't know Tim Kennedy is he is a UFC fighter he's also a member of the Army Special Forces in the National Guard and he said that it is harder to get into the military than it is to go to college and at first I kind of questioned that I was like I don't know about that Tim but really when he broke it down it did kind of make sense because the way he kind of broke it down was you know something like you know you can be you know overweight and out of shape and still go to college you can do drugs marijuana cocaine whatever still go to college you can have some kind of medical condition like asthma or something else that doesn't allow you do anything physical still go to college hell you can even be deaf and blind and still go to college you can't be any of those things and still join the military so with those standards it is harder to get into the military than it is to go to college because of those set standards now I'm not saying that it is easier to get into Harvard than it is to go to you know the military or to go Yale or something like that right that is not what I'm saying I'm saying College in general that could be a community college that could be a state college or whatever type of college College in general you know is easier to go to than it is to join the military and like I said that was kind of my mind frame when I was joined you know sure I didn't know much about it but I could have easily you know probably tried to get some kind of grant and try to go to school I could have gone to some kind of Community College and taking out student loans or something like that and gone to college but I chose the military route because I didn't think that I could go to college but it's actually you know a little did I know it was actually harder to get into the military than it was to just simply go to college and then going back to the employer part there are a lot of employers that see you know military veteran on the record and that's a plus for hiring someone so a lot of employers really look for military veterans to hire them not everywhere of course you know there are other establishments that prefer you know a college graduate over a military veteran or some cases but there are also a lot of jobs that you know prefer someone to be a veteran there are a lot of high-paying jobs as well that require someone to be a military veteran especially things like working on base so those DoD jobs that pay really well some of those DEA civilian jobs pay very well and they require you to have military experience that is not to say that you know all jobs that a veteran gets isn't gonna be some real high paying job because there are actually a lot of high paying jobs that require military experience to get into that high paying job next was moving is number three and that is soldiers are given stressed cards to use if things get too stressful I remember this one mostly like when I was already in the army and even after the army of hearing stories of people saying that oh did you hear that now they're given stress cards to soldiers apparently this myth actually goes why ways back there's even I've heard people from like the 80s where they heard that like you know once they got out basic that supposedly future soldiers were given stress cards while they're in basic and so on and so forth I remember hearing this you know like later in my career and even after the army hearing you know people talk about how supposedly soldiers against stress cards and basic training and thinking about how you know week that was or how ridiculous that was or whatever why the heck did these guys his stress cards and I had to deal with it but that myth actually is false like I said this myth actually goes way back you know even farther back than recently I thought it was more of a recent thing but it's not it's actually something that's been going around for a long time and is simply not true they did have a form of stress card but it wasn't actually get out of a stressful environment it's not like if a drill sergeant was yelling at that soldier they could pull all this stress card and just get some kind of free timeout and go have ice cream somewheres or something like that the actual stress cards that people were given is not actually to get someone out of a stressful environment there were things like to you know let an individual know of what what to do in a stressful situation or you know not to you know think that you Oh death and suicide is the answer to getting out of a stressful situation and how to seek help it was things like that not to actually get you into a timeout to get away from drill sergeants but to maybe some kind of like tips or whatever to help you deal with being under stress and those were actually what some people were given as far as stress cards it was just simply some tips to help you help an individual deal with stress so that hopefully they don't want to you know kill themselves or anything like that not to go and get some kind of free time away from some drill sergeants next let's move into number four and that is you will get in trouble if you get pregnant in the army this was a pretty crazy one because I've actually seen people first hand think this is a real thing like in the comment sections of my videos for example on the video that I did on the army uniforms when I briefly talked about the maternity uniform for women there has been a few comments not a ton but a few people kind of surprised to know that soldiers and female soldiers in the Army can be pregnant they didn't think that was the thing people are you know commenting wire females getting pregnant in the army or how do they allow to do that kind of a thing just not knowing that that's actually a thing that can happen so it can happen in you know most cases you're not gonna get in trouble there are situations where you can get in trouble if you did get pregnant but for the most part you're not gonna get trouble if you're pregnant in the army in fact the army actually has a recent thing not too long ago that they passed where a woman who you know as a new mother can get up to 12 weeks of maternity leave and they're actually working on a way to get it to where like men for you know their their wife being pregnant and having a baby you can actually get some paternity to leave along with that that they're working into the system and that's also why the Army has the maternity to close so that way when a female does get pregnant they have you know they can still stay in uniform and not have to wear a regular uniform that's restricting them while they're pregnant but there are situations where females can potentially get in trouble for getting pregnant for example in a combat zone because in a combat zone sex is kind of off the table you're not supposed to be engaging in sex some people still do but in the general orders rules you're not supposed to be engaged in a sex they do I think have some you know exceptions for married couples but if say a female who is single has sexual intercourse with a male soldier and gets pregnant from that shaky get in trouble for that if maybe even a female is married and she got pregnant from someone that it's not her husband then she could still get in trouble for that as well so there are cases where you can get you know trouble for being pregnant but it's typically something like that with a combat zone not just in general a female is not going to get in trouble for getting pregnant and the last one on the list number five is that Hollywood cannot display the army uniform correctly for legal reasons I remember hearing this one you're watching an army movie or something you know something like the flag on the wrong shoulder the rank is wrong or something else on the uniform is wrong and someone would be like oh no no they're not allowed to have it correct because it's against the law at the time like when you had like The Stolen Valor Act back when it was still active you know people saying that oh no because then you know they'll get in trouble for you know stolen valor or for other laws where they're not allowed to have it you know represent correctly the way that the army displays the uniform so there's actually just not true an actor can you know wear a correct army uniform that has the patches in the right location the rank is correctly worn because it is protected for you know for entertainment purposes for performing purposes for that actor to be able to wear that uniform there is nothing against the law about wearing a correct uniform for the purpose of making a movie or a TV show or something like that actually case of why it's usually done is simply that not every movie is gonna have like a military liaison you know with them you know sure you like things like Black Hawk Down and certain other you know military correct historical movies are gonna probably have a military liaison to make sure things are you know kind of done correctly but a comedy a regular TV show or whatever it's probably just some costume designer that doesn't know any better looked up a few things online saw some pictures and was like oh yeah this is how the army uniform looks so wear this and let's go ahead and shoot the scene so simply is sometimes just wrong because the person who put the uniform together didn't know any better didn't care whatever the case might be is not actually for any kind of legal purpose alright so there you go those are five myths that I just found on the internet that I thought were you know pretty entertaining ones that I had heard before as well that I thought would be good for this video but I'm sure
