196 videos to date, and I've seen every single one. I haven't even thrown in a while, I just like falling asleep to his soothing voice and the hum of his Brent. To me, he's a celebrity. My first semester throwing, I was blowing the rest of the class out of the water because of this guy.

A week or so ago I asked this sub for advice on selling pottery. This guy does amazing work, but if you check out his Etsy page, most of his sales come from the trimming tool sets he sells. He tells you how to make these tools in his videos. I have made them and they are cheap, easy, and awesome. Still, he sells more trimming tools than pottery.

I have learned so much from him and really appreciate his efforts to involve the YouTube community. I recommend subscribing to his channel, every new video is beautiful.

now assume you already learned how to temper your click now I'm going to show you how I open my clay and how I pulled it up step by step usually when I'm opening I use my thumb with Paul screams holes on the side up clay to stabilize it you can use a bit use both thumb poke it through the sender who can use 1.0 song I'm using to write some here you know when you open it make sure that your hand is holding on the side to stabilize okay and then I lift remove be a slip-up do fingers place it in the middle of the hole put a little bit of water all because when you are opening you will have lots of friction there so it's good to have a little bit more water in the middle go all right now you are going to use to your left fingers because of the way the wheel spinning you always want to use your left that hand inside so that Lance will use your left hand to open the hole when you open it make sure to stabilize your hand - okay so usually I'm holding my right hand here on the side to stabilize it and then this fingers try to dig in through the middle from the middle of the hole and with this sound holding my left arm holding mine on right hand here also to stabilize it so go ahead and straight down up at the same time you're both hand is kind of squeezing the clay wall so that when you're opening the hole we still you know war still centering some sometimes people have a good Center but when after they open it they lose the center because you did not squeeze the clay between how squeeze the clay so that the war is kind of a once I figure once I gender that's not good so make sure that your bottom is squeezing the clean wall and once you reach to the barn I always have run a quarter range and then this fingertip kind of a go through your head about 1/4 inch and my that fingers inside is going moment or my the center of my come here and you can see that at the same time of my thumb is holding on the rim so that the rim is not getting too thin here right right now so this is the opening process that make sure that you have to stand there but when you open it you won't be both in want to squeeze the clay let me cut it open soon what's the look inside before I lift it up so the your inside is kind of like this you have a little Linden here this is the hand that I'm holding from here and it gradually move to the side of the wall okay so you have a little intern here and later on you're going to lift let me clear from here and try to pull okay that's opening step at senator yeah remember slippery all the time let's be control slippery they are applied to the every step of a throwing now it's the same step that I have open likely now I'm going to lift it up okay I usually get some Mike Lai's still quite all on my thumb could reach to the bottom so the very first lift I usually use my left hand instead of on using right into two and by now because no now you will speak a little bit when you ascender what a little bit faster but that's when you lived in it so basically I'm going this where mine is my left thumb inside finger and we're right by the intent lifted up pitch and then they fill up you gonna pitch too much if you pitch too much your father would be getting too thin and you might break up from there so just kind of define a right thickness and then just stay on the same thickness and you lift your hand up slowly to the very state my right hand well we'll be able to help to stabilize my left hand so this is my first lift peach from the very bottom steady lately my fingers up way to the top @b hnmv you might want to compress the room in a bit pitch here a little bit and it's my point finger kind of that's my very first lift again slippery you could apply a water but personally I prefer using the slip that you can remove from you fingers on snow mostly is very fine I thought no lumps if you know how you don't want to have lump I'm slip so if you have not to throw it away but that is a very fine slip you can call it back on the surface and also here you remove it and you wanna put it on the inside more - so I'm both sign out of the wall you want to be a you want to use them in there be a slippery all the time you okay now but see that my thumb is to show Newt I'm going in for all you want to start from the bottom and try to my thumb is too short to reach the button so I'm not going to use my but I still want to create a same motion that I acquired the clay our assemblies my right thumb - replacement but by - this is little bit of loose so I extended my fingers like this holding it my fingers holding like this make sure that always your thumb is always attached to the hand here that the four fingers here you don't want to get it too loose if this is a noose it's not staying so again the same push from inside on using my right down to - quietly plane that just like I did the gooferz for here is holding the clay I'm going to me we're a steady you can see that the cylinders is getting taller the gear coat let's flip over the cylinder outside call it inside before I to another left a lot of people have left a lot of clay by the corner you don't want to live too much clean here so in this case I'm using my racking all in on the very bottom and try to squeeze the great ear my bottom is getting now you want to call it I call it eight - if you want to throw it higher in compressed the ring that sleepover and on a lift I'm stopping right here I'm going to cut it open to show you how I position my fingers okay from the beginning my fingers is going like this okay inside and outside both hand grab the clay lift it up okay this is after I moved from my fingers because I think I can go a little bit faster than the outside finger so it created a little notch here and then we just keep on moving up I'm using this Plexiglas cylinder to show you how I position my fingers in both inside and outside okay they are inside finger this this is about six o'clock six o'clock direction and three o'clock I'm using my fingers inside at around five o'clock position and pull up like this push up and then fold it up and my outside finger is using that dis now I'm using my thumb but the thumb you want to always attach to your four fingers together we expect this one kind of a effect of using the thumb point to the inside middle fingers and then both hands squeeze the clay squeeze the cylinder and lift it up and the outside hand looks like this these four fingers house kind of stabilized the cylinder and just use your thumb tip and the inside Inger holding together and move up so this is the how I hold my fingers together if I bring it upside down it's like this my hand is like this okay some people do use the knuckles against knuckles or sponging or whatever you feel comfortable with but my way of throne is I'm using my thumb my right down here is this four fingers hugging outside up the cylinder in both hand grab the cylinder quickly very first Lieut compress slippery Slippery inside we'll call it in compress the ring the Barney a little bit the second lift compress terrain again slippery Oh site and slippery inside slender is getting too tall so let me move my camera a little bit the third lift from the rebar compress the reality Slithe on the surface slip on the inside surfers right mine for slip I always stop for all the cylinder I'll try to push to the limit of the cylinder once you find out your limit your cylinder is start to walk a little bit back here start to advance little bit that means the cap the clear tell you that's the limit of my ability to stand up so in this case you don't wanna keep on I pull it up because up to the stage I usually start to are to shake to compress the world I usually are using this wouldn't work to do the first compress so the inside fingers pushing out with my rim against it time let me stop right here to show you the look of the inside and outside so when I'm compressing the fingers inside is kind of pushing out against the wooden whip here stuff from left at the bottom corner I try to move my hand up to here without moving my wooden rib until at this point that my rib is a little bit too short then I start to move with my fingers both together with the room that's how I use my wooden rib to compress that in a wall you with a room trim off here unnecessary clay of foot okay after I use the Moodle route to compress the wall the final stage I usually like to use this metal rib to shape so that it's easier to get a nicer surface also get a nicer curve because for this metal really panic it forms a very nice curve here so its final shaping I'm used to the metal rib instead wouldn't the ghost the room is straight H this meadow root you could get a nicer better curve in the mean time when you shake in it sometimes I thought all slip of my finger and post me inside I can grab that slip code it inside so I'm shaking also and removing you can see that when I must shape him I just focus on the bottom and then about a nice nice curve I would do the green later on so my room is still quite thick so I have a room to work with unusually I leave my ring but it was thicker so he did around everyone opening the iron a closer narrow you will have great deal this is I'm just showing you how to lift up and shake it up a little bit I'm not gonna finish this one I just want to cut it open to show you what that look inside yeah the ring will be a little bit thicker because I haven't finished yet let me hold it back so that shape still space so this is after our I pull it up on the shape it this is the look all the inside you can see that the rim here still quite thick you will have enough clay to to some kind of a ring or you can close it up we you still have room to do it but other than that the war is quite thin here already okay thanks for watching
