hello and welcome to the poorhammer podcast episode 101 I'm your host Brad this is my co-host Eric how's it going we have news this episode is hopefully coming to you very early we are talking about the data slate that dropped earlier today remember how we said maybe it would come out early in the week like uh Tuesday or something like that and make things real difficult huzzah we're profits in the worst possible way yeah yeah yesterday Eric wondered why I released the episode a day early I knew yeah it was smart but uh I was really expecting it to be a Thursday thing that wouldn't be late January Eric you're not wrong they got it in the 30th is late yeah I mean they could have done it tomorrow and really [ __ ] us up all right so without any further Ado let's jump into this sounds good all right I've been in meetings all day I just crushed a monster at 8:00 at night on a Tuesday probably going to die of a heart attack by the weekend I mean you've succeeded so far of not failing that so like if I know anything about statistics that means you'll be fine in the future or I'm do right we're getting this out to you guys as fast as possible so forgive clicking and all that stuff you may hear during the episode we are going to shoot this out through editing so thank bellio for whatever horse stimulants he found in Brazil and snorted in order to get this out to you time he has probably shortened his lifespan making this but it's worth it because we're going to be 100% correct on all of our takes but where do you want to start all right so I guess first impressions going into this like how do we feel before we start rattling off changes and opinions on each individual one I mean I'll be honest we're not in a terrible State other than the fact that there's not enough codexes to be like yeah we're happy but very close to my opinion on part of this there's definitely some weak factions of like you need help just because your index sucked yeah there's a couple layers to it in my opinion there is a couple factions got what they needed a couple factions got basically nothing but we weren't expecting much a couple factions got essentially literal zero not touched other than if a global change or a different Army matchup changed yeah a few factions got confusing Nerfs when they should have got Buffs there's definitely one of those but but uh I mean and then a couple of the stronger ones got knocked down a little bit yeah I checked around before we started recording to make sure like people were mostly on the same page with me anyone who thought admech was getting a buff you literally don't know how this works do you yeah you got a codex like 7 weeks ago there is not a chance a single absolute chance in the world you were going to get a change same with nekron the FAQ for that codex came out like what last week or the week before you were never going to get a CH in this data slate for them so people are like oh my God they're like tied for the most winning at 56% in The Meta watch why didn't they get a Nerf it is too early after a codex for them to get touched and it's kind of good because like there's not really enough games played to make informed decisions they can have an extra 12 weeks yeah it would be different if there was like some interaction that was clearly misprinted which got taken care of actually there was one it was in the FAQ yeah but that's the thing is like we have FAQs for that yeah so those ones don't shock me I get that like some people were really upset by those ones I mean I can definitely agree being upset as an admech player I understand the pain for admech players yeah your codex is a miserable [ __ ] disaster I'm sorry that that got put on you essentially and hopefully some of these future things will fix but uh on the necar slide nothing's so egregious that it's like [ __ ] banhammer get him no over the next 12 weeks it'll probably be absolute first place probably it may sneak up to 60 as the other like 5ish got hit I wouldn't be surprised if it gets into a problematic spot but it's not going to be this like dominating holy [ __ ] if you see a necron run yeah it'll be a annoyance like alari and nekron currently are for certain matchups it's another like it's going to depend cuz this it really doesn't matter when we get into non-competitive play yeah basically it's a hard conversation to have with more casual players of several things that change in the data slate will likely not affect you by the time the next data slate hits unless you're a tournament person right and you're just grinding but anyway enough of the overall let's get into the actual changes okay start with the rules commentary I guess all right let's get them out of the way it's mostly small nice Corrections and gray areas cleaning up it's doing what it's supposed to do it's saying it was written written this way but we meant it to be like this stop trying to angle shoot you little but there were a couple actual changes yeah the Strategic reserves first battle round that one's like a okay it basically means that at Second Battle round you don't count as battle round three if you have a rule break for that it's weird I'm going to guess that this ruins some strategy that I didn't know creeped up in the last like 8 weeks of competitive when I wasn't really paying attention yeah the count is having normal move and made a normal move and all of that is very nice that they spelled it out of this means that it counts as making a normal move for these things not like oh I'm going to OverWatch them there was embarked units from reserves it's neat that I guess they confirmed the you can disembark when you come in from reserves but you can't charge if you do that okay cool yeah I mean that's the way it should be but it's nice to see it like written out this one objective secured thing I think it's a big deal I was so confused by why it mattered and then we remembered stinky AA yeah so you know they basically made it so that if you have sticky objective it's now checking if you lose control at every phase instead of specifically the ability saying at the start or end of any turn trying to like overwrite the core rule yeah because the core rule already mentioned the every phase it gets checked yeah and makes sense but then like oh but I have this ability that literally says do it only here and here at the end of turn kind of thing and now it's like no no matter what the ability says you still have to obey the core rule it's checking at every phase but all of this is minor compared to the final big piece here which is ignoring modifiers they finally put their foot down they finally said it works on AP and damage we're done yeah I think that they had already done that enough in my opinion I don't think they can do it any more than this other than just saying stop [ __ ] around yeah this is actually an interesting Nerf to katans I'm not saying like woohoo the thing that you may not have in your army means katans are easier but I'm saying like right this might allow in The Meta where katans aren't a complete catastrophe if they're getting spammed or something because now if you have the ability to ignore modifiers you can ignore their take half damage and just start slicing them up yes I'm not sure that that's very common or is going to happen but it does mean that there are like especially for competitive play if you're worried about a necron list if you're like ah katans are going to be a problem you can start being like okay let's find that ability it's nice that they set it in stone though so it's no longer this up to the to I think those were like the main changes there was a bunch of other like yeah yeah those are like the actual solidified rules and all that the rest is actual data slate talk and going into this we're going to use the GW numbers for this so they've got their faction win rates they post they check rtts and stuff so like three round tournaments like local store tournaments which is why everything moves towards Center more like Randomness starts to take over and everything gets closer to a 50% because when you go to like hey I've only checked the top most you know six plus round tournaments in 120 players worldwide yeah yeah when you get to that level you start getting huge differentials between the best and the worst it is better for GW to balance based around small tournaments that are much more common and cover many more people and that generally is going to encapsulate the majority of players that aren't just the tryhards like I don't mean that in a negative way no no no it makes sense the spikiest players are not the ones they need to Super worry about we're going to complain literally no matter what the meta looks like yeah it's good to look there because they're the ones that are going to be making the most egregious obvious examples but most competitive players are just going to their local game store and playing three rounds over the weekend just for fun not a super tuned list you know like you're playing your list and like that's where they really need to make sure that it feels fun it's also kind of nice because if they have list data for these which I don't know what their backend data collection looks like for specifics I don't think they do but if they do that allows for better internal balance checking because you can actually see like wow literally everybody who takes X unit loses yeah maybe we made a really bad data sheet it would also be nice to see like okay the big tournaments have lists like these everybody else has General lists and like oh this subaction Detachment is not used anywhere not even at the local small scene maybe it sucks yeah I generally prefer that they balance around rtt level play yeah I don't care about people who are only focused on like what's going to happen at a super major it's going to affect literally less than a thousand people on earth right but it is one of those like like that's the canary in the coal mine kind of thing like they're the ones leading the charge into nonsense so looking at their win rate knowing that information they squeaked out with nothing below 45% which little sus I mean if they had all of the factions yeah uh where's the world eers they just got some Nerfs in this data slate oh so they must have a high win percentage I don't think that's true they're not in the list yeah and given some of the other data that we've had in just general like I'm pretty sure they're not doing amazing and uh I think one of the special snowflake Marines is missing who is it black Templars oh black Templars okay yeah I mean they got kicked in the balls as well I didn't do that as a joke against black Templars I literally forgot which one so basically to give a summation of what the status of everything is we've got stuff on the low end Jean Steeler Cults custodes grey Knights admech chaos demons Imperial Knights tyranids IG duari those are the things that we want to help yeah then you got stuff on the top end elar necrons which won't get touched as we know because we're not children and we know they're not going to touch something right after they released a codex yes voton CSM chaos kns Orcs And really chaos kns and Orcs are at 52 so like it's not that bad on the top end no it's really not like you said no change is really going to be made in thatg grounds because we know so we'll have to see if the elar changes are enough to Rin them back in I think so we'll talk all right so we can go into the data slate proper now before we get into points let's do the data slate changes yeah let's move right into the actual data slate and look there's a little plus sign yeah let's take a moment props tuw we're increasing notation we're getting there it's easier to see what's changing there's still some improvements that can be made we can make it like a one was this now this was two now one but props for making it so that there's a little symbol saying this is new very useful thank you I do this is a minor thing I do worry when they take things off the data slate which we do know they have done in the past and did a ninth edition if they remove something from the data slate we'll need some way to notify like this is gone now yeah and that's one of those where it's like was this now this and it can be like was a thing now it's all crossed out cuz I'd really like for one thing on the data slate to go away but we'll get there so nothing up top we can move straight to factions sisters Triumph of St Catherine was taking like 100% of competitive list from everything I've heard and yeah they nerfed it yeah but it's like still fine it's probably better long term cuz you shouldn't have a random epic hero need to be 100% pick rate but it feels bad when you're already not in a great spot and then you're getting kicked yeah it's like but we weren't the problem but I mean I don't think it kills the model either so custodes you walk out as one of the two great winners of this data slate I hate you still yeah I get it but like no so they gave back the devastating wounds portion to Aegis of the emperor yeah so they get to feel no pains on it I don't like it but we're psychic factions I more so than you at this point yeah custodes is a miserable slog when what was called Emperor chose and is now called Aegis of the emperor is what 100% of custodes matches are and even after they get a codex it will probably be 100% of matches it's a good catchall kind of thing and like it's not fun when you're up against that and your thing but I can't really complain that much they needed a buff it's fine but this is also just straight up a Nerf to Thousand Suns yes anytime custodi sees more play thousand suns will see less play yeah so good for custodia I'm happy for you guys you got a really decent buff here all right alari this is the one did you get kicked without actually losing your legs they added seven new bullet points yeah so Army rule change you get six dice of the strands of Fate instead of yes instead of come on Eric you know alari I obviously do and it was it was 12 thought they had already changed it once you're thinking of last Edition when they ripped out laughing God complet completely yeah okay I was like I wanted to say 12 but then I was like I thought they changed it so uh I don't know anymore like 10 yeah no so strand of Fate is down to 66 pretty big Nerf to the actual Army rule yeah it's a problematic rule we kind of proven that multiple times but it's fun thematic that's fine but balancing is going to be a problem there was a couple other minor Nerfs uh fantasm got what it deserved eldr actually didn't change they just needed to actually update his line because of the Nerf to the core rule I actually think eldrad is more important now because now he adds like 50% of your army rule I think that that's actually nice to note of like hey this actually could be useful it could get you closer to what you were before but you have to work for it instead of just free dice to everyone so that's nice wraith cards got what they deserved your carard didn't get as much as it deserved but it's still it it's fine yeah I'm assuming that it was each turn and now it's each of your turns which like probably what was supposed to be anyways so in general alari got quite a few kicks it's probably for the best none of these are so crazy like the Army rule that's a big one but it you like still have options and like you could still grab Eldred and like increase it so like I don't think any of these changes are that drastic we'll have to see what the point changes are but alari is not going to drop to like 45 5% I really doubt it and if it is it's because some other faction has decided to pick on them yeah it is much more likely that they will move down to like 52% or in a bad scenario like 48 maybe so AST militarum I had to look up what this change was because I was confused it's literally just the transport part at the bottom getting tacked on to have you be able to hop out of a transport and still give an order which is good it's fine but um ig's right down at the bottom sitting right next to darari at 45% yeah but I mean you know it's one of those that like maybe in the points they change a few things cuz like fundamentally guard is not that big of a problem from their core rule Styles yeah so maybe we'll get to points later and we'll find out yeah so like I could say yeah this is a nice little nod to make things a bit easier but it's not really helping you that much on the other hand blood angels hey you actually exist kind of now your Detachment rule does something now so when we did the index discussion I autofilled in what blood angels used to do I said it gives a strength and an attack I was like it's it's fine it did not no didn't so it went from only giving one strength on charge to now giving two strength on charge and an attack it's still not so strong but it should be good enough to like you can take it without feeling like it's just dumb actually having two extra strength should make some of those fighting tanks and that kind of stuff do your chain swords will wound on twos vers toughness three stuff chain swords will be able to swing down at toughness 5 now death company can slice up light tanks easily now these are like things that I'm just trying to think of like what blood angels tends to want to run that will get a really good bonus out of this and the extra attack all around yeah the extra attack is obviously good but like actually figuring out if the strength is going to do anything I'm not saying it's the most competitive thing but now if you want to unab Bunga with a bunch of jump pack intercessors that's going to be pretty good yeah at a casual local Tournament level it'll be fine so yeah I mean that's a nice solid buff I actually like the Nerf chaos demons got speaking as a demon player because the demon is in a weird spot demons itself could use some Buffs yes when you buff demons and everyone can soup demons for free you buff everyone except demons including armies like CSM that don't need it and any buff to Demons the best parts of it are also buffing all of those others because they're just going to take what's best yes to reward that demons has to fill 2,000 points of demons CSM has to steal 65 yeah so it just makes the is so much more problematic when you buff demons so the point is we got nerfed demonic paact the rule that lets you soup demons now says in addition for each of the following keywords the number of non-battle line units with that keyword you include this way cannot be greater than the number of battle line units with that keyword you include this way cores so you just can't have more non- battle line the battle line for each of the keywords so you can't just steal a changeling you have to also then grab a battle line unit so the only one that doesn't really get nerfed by this is death guard cuz they're just going to soup nurglings which is already battle line so they're just going to keep souping nurglings which is is fine it's whatever it's the least offensive thing I care about yeah it means we can start giving Buffs to Demons without worrying about the fact that now everyone's just going to steal the flamers right I mean you have to still be careful about buffing the battle line ones but yeah but the battle line ones could use a lot of Buffs given the state of demons and that they won't just do what I want and make codex zinch yeah yeah and be done with it given the state of demons this is the best I can ask for it should work out CSM you were one of the other top factions you got hid in a bunch of very fair ways just some real quick ones you can't transport in a different keyword than you are they nerfed the nurgle portion of dark obscuration profane Zeal you can no longer do the hit roll portion a curs Al is got a slight Nerf to OC just on the mutants and torments which is it's still good I love the unit so I'm not going to complain that they're good but it's still very good I'll be honest I didn't know that they had more than one that seems [ __ ] stupid it's cuz they're big sure yeah but uh anyway yeah they seem pretty minor throughout nothing's like oh gotcha and even when we get to points with CSM like everything is fine I expect that CSM will change very little drop a couple percentage points overall and be very happy happy they may actually try a couple different tricks they haven't had to try cuz they could just do their current strategy like you might go a little shoer than you used to I don't know death card had minor change to one of the abilities I can't say I know what it was originally it's literally just you can't spam this every single turn for grenade Strat it's once per battle yeah okay you used to be able to grenade Strat for free literally every turn if you had a putrifier good fix Jakari let's skip oh yeah okay we'll talk about it last green nights we got a buff yay it's nice to have the Nemesis dreads be better this one it bothers me slightly really not that you got a buff the buff itself is very correct it seems perfectly fine for the Nemesis dread Knight to have the S can and be a little bit more AP these are fine my thoughts on this is instead of updating the data sheet properly which when we get to duari they updated the index thumbs up you did good they did it in a data slate in this sloppy big way that they're not going to want to do outside of super emergencies that's fair yeah it is kind of hamfisted this is something I would prefer to just be okay to do of like hey the following data sheets have been updated Go download them yeah I mean it's nice to see it called out but it should be done in like a AATA document not in a data slate where if they go this is taking up too much space on the data slate in a year they just rip it away yeah and then you go ah does that mean we don't have it anymore and it's going to be yes no we don't have it anymore I see what you're saying that's fair that's my problem with it because like Hey sisters is in not so great of a spot right now instead of just nerfing an ability on the unit that they have to take why don't we update some of their data sheets hey there's a lot of bad data sheets over here in this faction that's not getting a codex for 2 years how about we just buff a few of them to fix them right and like if you're going to do that one the Nemesis dread Knight one all right that's not too bloating on this document but like there's more that could be done and then you look at like all right we've changed eight data sheets and the rest of the balance data slate is just drowned out by these changes so that's why it's like I approve of these changes I would like them formatted differently in the future yeah but I'm happy yeah yeah great changes you get AP on your s Canon woo now it's AP minus 2 great your demon great hammer on your Nemesis dread actually can hit something congrats you won't miss literally every time you try to swing that stupid thing your great sword now actually hits like it should because it drove me nuts that your grandmas in Nemesis dread hit worse than your Grandmaster with his main melee weapon kind of a problem but it was one of those where it's like oh I know it's because last Edition they were a problem so now they're getting in the punishment box but like but there's also only like four grey nights data sheets so at a certain point you have to have one of them be good yeah basically yeah these are nice it doesn't really like fix grey nights and their current issues that I have with it but it got a little toy there's a chance that a great hammer Nemesis dread heavy list actually can kill something that has high toughness which grey Knights has a pretty large problem with right now it definitely is a current problem yeah I do feel like grey nights could have got a bit more than they got especially when we consider the librarian get nerfed slightly a [ __ ] oh so I feel like the grey Knights could have got a little more than what they got but it's a solid little thing yeah okay it's time to talk about the one that I wish they would have removed from the data slate to show that they have the ability to to show us They removed something from the data slate we're at Imperial nights and the bondsman change is still here so instead they buffed coach shal rck instead of just removing the Nerf they did to the bondsman ability which was the ability that made you build balanced good lists I'm not sure I understand this change and it's weird because like they also had to to dump points on basically every single night trying to salvage them because they over nerfed the [ __ ] out of them like I said they did well yeah and I mean the whole Titanic thing was like Knights have not been handled well after Edition launch ever but after aition launch like they were too strong early on and instead of like taking the alari approach of let's figure some stuff out they did the [ __ ] it nuke it from orbit which I get that when it comes to Knights they're a very emotional Army it's true when you think about the Casual impact Knights or the one you nuke yeah I get that from like a feels kind of thing but I think we're at a point that like you said we could have done removed the Nerf from the bondsman thing let's see how it goes maybe you'll end up with healthier lists yeah the change is a bit weird especially with the points they're probably fine but it's so difficult to tell when it comes to Knights that we'll see moving on though Space Wolves your terrible Detachment ability is unfortunately still got awful that said it's still very fluffy I still like the idea behind it it's awful you should play literally any other Detachment still if you want to win a game that's not the point though no it's there for thematic and it does thematic but it could use some actual number pumping kind of thing just so that it's not the obvious wrong decision World eaters is up last here before we go back to jukari Eric would you like to read us the change to Berserker glaive yeah add one to the attack and damage characteristics of melee weapons clipped by the bearer would you like to read us what didn't change no thank you because of how they do these changes it's very amusing that they're like the red text is what changed it's the entire enhancement the entire Relic has changed because they have an issue with like the negative thing so they just went replace the whole Relic with this half of what it used to be so they took away like it had like a D3 on charge or something I forget what it was I'm not going to go look it up but the point is like it's really weird to read stuff like this and it's a formatting thing I'd like to see improved on but whatever it's definitely this whole thing of like the was and is now yeah we could use some enhancements as it were there's definitely some benefits to showing that we've got the plus sign so we can keep that forward momentum going but uh I guess once per battle was the change for favor of corn enhancement which is good that was the one that I made fun of when the index dropped I'm pretty sure I spoke at length about how I hate this design philosophy because this enhancement was the first points you spend in a world leader list because it like doubled how good your blessings of corn rules are like you would never not take this it essentially was a point tax for your better Army rule that like it's weird I mean like the whole Triumph of St Catherine thing but like yeah exactly even kind kind of worse yeah it's like an enhancement that is an auto lock the first thing you put in is the enhancement then you figure out your list yeah and that's [ __ ] up but this is nice it still does something as well it is now like an interesting like you probably still take it but now you actually have to think yeah it's one of those where it's like maybe I could eek some points out into this other thing but it like still should probably be taken cuz it's good it's not just useless now so some change to the demon Prince I don't know what it was before I'm assuming these numbers are slightly different yeah infernal fortitude used to just give you a four up inv so now it only is a five up if you already had one in Sephora that's nice it's a Nerf it's not huge well I mean it's kind of big it's noticeable yeah I like that as a nice design where it's one of those like you're feeling the combo kind of thing of like hey that one already haded in we're going to make it better instead of just being like ignore it and clearly World eaters needed the Nerf because their win rate was all the way up at yep all right jari so let's go back to the Round of Applause for this data slate the opening of the door yeah they changed power from Pain Army rule actually I forgot this actually isn't part of the data slate that makes this even weirder huh it is okay so there are data slate changes too power from Pain the Army rule has been updated notably the Army rule has been updated not tacking a bunch of abilities onto the Detachment rule death guard hey at least they made death card useful so while I'm not a fan of power from pain in 10th edition not my favorite implementation now when you use your pain token in the only phases you would ever use it in because the advance and charge one is so bad but anyway in shooting and fight the only time you would ever use this now if it's a melee attack you're improving you also get an extra AP which helps because there's an AP missing on every melee weapon in the index already so there we go yeah melee is kind of not in a great spot not for Drear s look at those witches look at their big strong arms and their strength three do you like that archon can lead incub by now that one is huge it's actually weird that this had to be done oh yeah no it's it's absolutely they [ __ ] did an oversight and finally were called out and like fine I guess we'll admit that we [ __ ] up so yeah arine can lead incubi all is right in the world a completely normal thing to put an archon next to is now back together but that wasn't the end we actually got the big changes the thing that's not in the data slate is the best part of the data slate which is kind of weird but it's the Applause worthy thing so drw Cari got an extra Detachment because the one piece ship is the worst Detachment ever invented and they should never do it again I disagree I think it is a perfectly fine one it should be your sixth Detachment in a codex yes or 19th yeah that should be the hey what if we did something weird not the default but we now have Sky Splinter assault and we kept real space raid the one piece ship as I call it it still exists if you really love pain and you want to like get that side of Jakari you could still play real space Raiders I mean to be fair it is nice that they didn't take it away like if you had a list that you were happy with you're not just like nope now you have to deal with transports and that's it I don't know a single trari player who's going to be like man I love our original index detach over this one yeah this one's cool this one is very much doing the drari thing with Lake transports so I'll let you get into it so to give a quick run through I don't want to sit here and read a whole Detachment out loud Detachment rule each time a dra car unit from your army disembarks from a transport until the end of turn that unit's range weapons have the ignore cover ability and that unit's melee weapons have the lance ability so ignore his cover and plus one to wound on charge cool very cool very thematic with jari of stay in your boats hop out kill somebody done clean and simple does the job as a coven enjoyer I am not forced to play with a bunch of witches as a witch enjoyer you can like your inferior models it's all great wow no bias at all but it is nice and like you're doing the darari thing with the boats so then we get to enhancements a couple of them are pretty good actually has been interesting because I was liking two of them and ignoring the other two and then someone was saying how much they liked a different one and now I'm like maybe three out of four are pretty good I don't think there's any bad one here H spiteful Raider is pretty awful duari models aren't known for living long you're not paying points to get one additional pain token every time they're the ones to finish something off fair enough in fight only yeah and I guess that that is one of those like the melee is not particularly great so okay yeah I really like nightmare shroud I really like fantasmal smoke someone was pointing out sadistic Folk head use point is decent enhancements the big big big thing is these strategems are some of the strongest strategems I've seen out of an index I cannot believe that they're all one CP yeah at the same time I think you are never going to spend a CP outside of spamming some of these that's fair yeah so like you're going to spam pounce on the prey if you play any melee in your list it just lets you leave a transport and still charge after moving the transport and disembarking that's dumb in a Detachment where you get Lance for charging after leaving that vehicle yeah it's pretty nice if you're playing shooting you get skyborn Annihilation which lets you get sustained hits one if your calite Warrior sustained hit two on all range weapons that you've got after you disembark for a CP which sustained hits too is a lot we get a reactive move in swooping mockery night Shield just gives us back our four up inv but you had to pay a CP for it and everyone loved when we had four up inves on our transports that didn't cause problems this is the one the other ones are like yeah one CP but no night Shield why are you one CP I don't want this anymore I think night Shield's fine because you have to pay the CP you can only do it once per phase it's not that bad it's not freeable it's fine I think swooping mockery is going to be pretty strong given Jakari transport and the fact that like a decent amount of this all especially with like wraith Lake Retreat and all this like there's a lot of movement going on which is how it should feel to play duari yeah absolutely and it doesn't randomly say racks are fat like the other one does I hate that one yeah I really like vicious blades too it is nice call out vicious blades as someone who enjoys playing covens is a nice bonus and you see it's usable and this is your jam basically I have been reinvigorated so yeah we have finished the rules updates now to talk points and actually put these in perspective for if they came at a cost or if you get saved in some other way oh boy maybe IG will be saved yeah remember when they just got the you can do orders after you hop out thing yeah something else to go with that so starting off with sisters Exorcist got a point bump V got a point buff Arco flagin got a point bump it's very interesting that I was able to tell you that so simply yeah because we have to applaud them again it now tells us the up arrow down Arrow red verse emerald green not quite green green it's red and green that's very obvious if it was pure red and green I would actually have a problem with it because then we get the color blind issue but they very clearly use an off green so that it it's not actually green so I actually applaud that they were smart enough to do that or did it on accident I assume they did it on accident but they also have the up arrow down arrow so like that's the call out to like oh color blind look at the arrow I am very impressed the whole way through that they've formatted this better I still want the was now that would be nice we can only ask for so much so I will say we also have someone linked it in our Patron Discord earlier the useful torum field manual which I checked and it's made by someone with a useful torum Field Manual patreon so I'm just going to assume that's the name you go by online it was insane like within the hour yeah this was fast by the time I was out of my meeting to read the data slate someone had already linked this solid job and thank you so we have this we'll put it in the show notes for the episode so that you can go use it if you want it's an easier way to see what changed by how much GW if you're out there maybe give it a look improve yeah so anyway so sisters it's a real mix bag for something that's not on the high end right now it seems to be an attempt at internal balance change when they also need a buff and this gets into the duari change opened a door which is something that I wish they had been a little more aggressive with but I feel like this is the toe in the water before next data slate when they go okay this is a good idea yeah well I mean I think it was one of those like death guard showed changes can be made yes now jari showed like okay that wasn't just like a oneoff and we can make a re-release on the index yeah and importantly a maybe the index is having no variety whatsoever and having to last for years is going to be a bad idea yeah with how slim codices are at this point I'm still mad about the nekron Codex it's powerful competitively that's not my problem with it right but you got a codex with like three other options that are new there's essentially 12 pages that didn't exist in the index and some number changes to make your index data sheets you bought 6 months ago completely worthless right right which those should not be the problem here but I'm just saying like it's a lose every angle you try to sell me you can't defend it in a different way but they've kind of shown okay GW can release additional detachments to spice things up a little bit for the ones that are having trouble or getting stale or whatever and it's not just you're going to be the last codex GG it's great to be in the Imperial Guard ninth Edition slot huh yeah though there is going to be some feel bads if they release you the last codex is going to have maybe three detachments in the index and then the Codex is going to have six total and you're going to be like well I had four pages for my codex to be fair I feel like that feel bad is not as rough as just playing guard in ninth Edition was yeah yeah no it's it's definitely there's tears and the ability to release some of these attachments are nice and that'll make things better but uh yeah I mean so are you thinking like sisters needs I sisters has a lot of issues the other thing is like if the thing they did for grey kns was more properly polished and able to be done in mass and fix like seven data sheets in a faction at once yeah that would be another nice way to handle this so sisters is like they got some point decreases they got some point Nerfs it's a real mixed bag when they're not in a great spot to begin with it probably improved internal balance but it's going to feel bad externally when you're like great my best list got worse yeah but I mean I don't think there's any that are that drastic paragan War suits is it's a little spicy if you're running them with B it's still technically a buff yeah but let's let's just move on custodes you continue winning yeah what you got like a huge buff by getting your FAL pain and a bunch of Point decreases you're still not like you were at the start of the like you still have Nerfs compared to when your index launched but you should be feeling a lot better after this if I was as a custodes player I'd be very happy with this data slate I'm not a custodis player and when I play against custodes I get mad cuz mortal wounds is my favorite thing and I'm bad at them I'm less than thrilled at a personal level but I'm very happy for you good job guys ad mac oh okay let's look at all these changes wow no changes like we knew there was going to be no changes like 7 weeks after our codex drops shocking elar you actually got away really scottf free on this end this is the part that I'm amazes me like wraith guard are super dead though if anyone was debating them bowling pin heads at index launch if you were a fan of them you must have had a great last six months just going from getting to play The Wraith Knight to playing wraith guards and great times those are gone you will play with your 1996 ugly ass metal sculpts and you will like it and yeah night spinner also got hit but no one pies the night spinner nobody yeah and that was it yeah relatively unscathed on this end you did get hit hard elsewhere but I was just I'm surprised that things like you know your reain didn't g a point increase and stuff like that just because you know like oh lar in a problematic amount of win percent let's just randomly hit some of their [ __ ] yeah that's what would happen if they were named Knights that's true yeah that is true I am very interested in gw's back end for like if they get like bombarded with my brother brother beat the [ __ ] out of me with knights I'm never playing this game again and that's why Knights just gets hammered the second is good well and like I said it's such a emotional feeling thing of like when you lose to nights you lose yeah it's very drastic and it feels like well but that's because you got this big giant expensive thing and and and you're cheating and and it's dumb and this game's dumb and it's like well I get what you're feeling right now but I'm sure that's the scenario I am sure that's why they had to handle it the way they did but without that context and them saying like look that's why we have to do it this way it looks like Amateur hour compared to how lar was handled like all right we'll do a minor change we'll check on feedback we'll do a minor change we'll check on feedback and csm's being handled pretty well that way as well right now like they were pretty good we nerfed a couple things they're still really good okay next layer poke it a little bit and see what happens and then poke it a little bit more and it will anger a certain part of the audience who has a visceral reaction to their buddy who plays aldar or whatever right but it is better overall to slowly move everybody towards the 50% Mark yeah I mean within reason if something's like if something's crazy then yes but yeah okay estra militarum so IG all right so we had a really minor buff we're right down there with jari they didn't add an extra Detachment so you're stuck with the one that really wants you to just stand still and fire from far away yeah which kind of weird but all right maybe if we change the points it won't feel quite as bad and we can have right we can push in artillery list maybe so that like they can be more competitive with that so let's check all these changes there's a lot on here I Manor okay the manacor it lets us play correctly within our subaction this is probably a good one to buff nah oh it's nerfed you say yeah another 30 points 30 points huh it's actually pretty big okay how about any of the others that's it literally it not a single buff no just a Nerf tied for the lowest win rate it's not a good spot that doesn't look good IG players I'm so sorry like admech players I'm also very sorry for you but we know why there's no reason for IG to be I mean they had a codex release like last year maybe it's too early o their codex came out literally like 12 months ago what are you guys complaining about I know it's crazy daggers let's move on to ks demons Make It Rain baby look at these oh you'll love to see it this is very much related to the fact that the super rule changed yes we can more freely give out some upgrades all over the place let's go Point drops yeah without that a bunch of these would have been concerning the greater demon stayed still other than like scar brand went down but like the greater demon stayed still a lot of the really bad priced units went down by 10 to 20 points some only went down five but whatever but like there was a general like at least five points look I'm a Zing guy yeah GW you got unlucky with me because I talk about this a lot and I'm the one getting bullied here good I understand why because blue scribe and changeling competitively are going to be amazing they loan operatives who are very cheap and can hold points in armies that don't have good options for that yeah and do objectives whatever they're good at it all so they were souped everywhere okay we fixed the soup rule yep the rest of zinch Is Not Great not too many changes could I get some point drops on my pink Horrors I mean exalted flamers went down a bit you've got a couple things here and there but like if I want to build a a well-rounded Zen Charmy Horrors still suck yeah but I realize that their argument is we don't want Horrors being cheap because then people will just pay the extra tax to still get blue scribes or changing in and that's why it's one of those like there's still problems with how it work like the super rule is helping it opens up some doors but it's not perfect that said I think that this is a good start for the changes I think that there's probably some more that can be done overall fantastic changes on chaos demons I am nitpicking yeah I'm very excited to see how some of these actually end up specifically in chaos demon lists we weren't in a very good spot so I'll take anything at this point the nurgling bump sure it it it's deserved it gets past the whole Nerf to begin with a fivepoint bump is not the problem nurglings will be just fine the fivepoint bump not too bad 40 points for your nurglings is fine but like it's not this wild like let's make nurglings unplayable yeah there already just a little trick piece whatever chaos Knights thank you just cut the costs we're onale s now everything's on sale except for war doog okay so War doogs didn't change as they should not the brigand went up in points as it should I love the brigand it's my favorite one that's why I say Briand a lot and upset people who pronounce it wrong because they can't read yeah you're definitely the right one in this argument model is not that much different compared you know percentage wise of the total cost I don't know if these changes actually give you an extra night I wouldn't be surprised if they don't but it feels like they're at least trying to give you that thing instead of like hey remember when Titanic was a problem keep eating that dirt yeah so I'll take it I'm happy with the chaos night changes so far I have to actually try them out I don't play chaos nights that often to begin with because again not a big fan of the index attachment blah blah blah pretty good CSM CSM you got hit a little bit not a ton though not a ton the things you got hit on are what we knew you'd get hit on your chosen cost more the things you were all playing cost more your Forge fiends cost more your curs cultist cost more but they're all little they're all 10 points here 10 points there you probably have to to drop competitively one unit yeah I was going to say it's probably like 100 points depending on the list yeah chosen going up by 20 points if you're a chosen heavy list you actually got hit a bit harder and you probably at that point are changing what you're looking at playing like I said there was already talks that I was seeing of people being like CSM little bit of a hit possibly just re- angle the competitive list yeah okay death guard plague Marines and plague burst crawler go up couple other things that weren't seeing as much play go down death Terminator going down by five points is a little something it's very small but it's a little something it's cool but it could be more I'm fine with like you know the small change but like I think you could go more on that yeah the death guard changes they're already totally fine right now these are minor duari points drops across the board except for the void Raven bomber [ __ ] aircraft who hurts you GW that's what GW 10th edition is just all about [ __ ] air craft did you see that they showed up at a tournament somewhere I haven't Jean Steelers is not doing great but it's not in this like wow it's unplayable spot kind of thing so like Let It settle for a little bit and then you know next time if they're still struggling a little bit we'll give the pure strain another 10 points off no we'll we'll look at the Nerfs they got last dat to slate and undo one or two that seems right yeah it's the libraryi and we already talked about it [ __ ] me what you don't like your 45ish per win rate Army you know the one character that's got like some psychic stuff that's kind of neat still I'm not salty you're salty [ __ ] off green nights is just unsalvageable I want to like it so much the Detachment rules and like the bouncing around it's so cool to me but like no wait two more years Imperial Knights wow it's the same as chaos Knights it's just points down everywhere except they don't have brigand to increase points on except actually literally let's put a sale on for everything hey the Warg glaive didn't go down oh sorry I missed that one and to be fair like none of them went down a crazy amount these are basically undoing the whoopsie we overnerfed you when we changed Titanic at the exact same time without definitely needed some extra point points but they didn't go wild on it like we'll start a little bit here and see what goes on and like you've got some toys that went down yeah kill rig if you want to play kill rigs or Hunter rigs or killan sick you could play the Goos yeah and they fixed the mor knut oh did they finally fix it yeah it's back to what it was before they Titanic killed it for no reason for no reason it wasn't even remotely a problem and then they forgot when they fixed gor like oh yeah no Moran's still supposed to be like 500 points you know what they didn't fix what the some people out there have strong opinions on this I'm looking at it and I'm like maybe people care about the outrider squad no some things that I know are seeing Play got Nerfs and some random stuff got Buffs and yep heavy intercessors seem Criminal El cheap yeah sure is Space Marine changes Get Wrecked Whirlwind you stupid old Marine model I'm sure that there is more that could be talked about if you're a specific chapter player kind of thing but like that gets into a whole thing of like space Brin has the awkward thing of someone being like my white scars are doing terrible and it's like we'll play a better subaction yeah my white scars joke may be wrong here I white scars might be a good subaction right now in space Mar but you get my point of like yes and then you've got the double whammy of just add some space Wolf units to your space Marine list and you can increase your win rate it's free it's free in everything but real life dollars so black Templars got a couple Point increases yeah kind of required because again their win rate was all the way up at yep very problematic uh blood angels got no changes little weird considering they're like one of the worst things to like almost all of the models you can add into space rins with blood angels seem to be like just don't do it yeah like just worse than any other option you could have but I'm assuming they were just forgotten for some reason it's fine they got their Detachment thing to be slightly better yeah that should help I assume they're going to just leave them starving feeling that red thirst until they reveal the new Feats on the new sanguinary guard so that you can get all horny for them I'm excited can't wait dark Angel's got a bunch of Point decreases this one annoys me though dark Angel's got points Buffs right yeah this is prec codex that is confusing the Codex is supposed to come out when is it supposed to come out it's like soon right no this is the problem because I had the same thought you did and then I got corrected by a patron they're doing the stupid Orcs thing from ninth Edition oh right you can get the Codex in a box set like next week or some garbage and then we're going to have to wait like 2 months for the actual release of the Codex so the Codex may actually be a while out even though you can go buy it if you want to pay $200 for some Terminators and a codex yeah that's annoying and even still like it's a month or two out and we're getting these types of Point changes to be fair if it's on the long end and if it's like actually weeks before the Codex don't care wow tell us how you really feel to you mean ow crisis suits got nerfed but the commanders got buffed but not the cold star so I guess if you're using cold star which I'm going to guess competitively just reading the room here is probably the one that you were playing with the suits without reading data sheets to figure that out right now I'm going to assume it's a slight Nerf there yeah whatever doesn't care Riptide minus 15 woo the riptide is down 15 points which I was like woo rip TI's a gorgeous model and then I saw it's at 165 points and this caused a rant it is it's 165 points it's basically an admech model the model is the size of a knight it's got the weakest angles on Earth but that's a different discussion my wife's anger at those ankles is fantastic the thing is huge it's a beautiful model and I was like why does this not cost like 300 points which I'm pretty sure is what it cost in like ninth Edition right and I had to get shown by a patron that the Riptides current data sheet is ass it's not great it's a giant model that can't shoot anything above T8 uh I think it's got a T9 if it doesn't go to 10 I know that the highest strength it has is the 12in melta that you can add on to it hell yeah but no it's it's Main gun A gun the size of a knight's gun is strength eight when you overcharge it yeah what the [ __ ] who wrote the rip tied this Edition it honestly is very comparable to uh Nemesis tread Knight like it feels very similar and yeah boy it's gorgeous model 165 points again it's a positive thing but like the riptide right now is is a questionable data sheet thousand Sons we got forgotten which honestly we were doing pretty okay but we actually got a couple Nerfs you got a Nerf because of custodis custodes got better which makes us have a worse matchup I'm speaking historically maybe we're good against custodi in current lists but I don't give a [ __ ] and then the other one is we were the one we were the problems we were souping one demon I was like I'm I'm pretty sure that you're happy you didn't get Nerfs because like it very possibly was one of those like thousand Sons is cheating on something let's get them yeah so we may go down slightly to under 50% if I have to guess it's probably true but whatever to be honest my thousand Sons I've been like grasping at them over this Edition like trying to stay in love I know what that's like it's not as bad as your great nights like I I feel bad complaining when I look over at you I'm like oh sorry it can always be worse but yeah no it's just I get it neither of us are currently the most excited for that style of army but luckily you have like eight others and I have one other so um but so it all works out it all works out in the end tyranids tyrannids got blurs some stuff's down some stuff's up they remembered that they destroyed the tyrano effect's data sheet so now they could take 55 points off it it's a hell of a point decrease but I don't think it's wrong at all remember they nerfed it at the exact same time as the Codex launch when they took away its Dr and it was like what why did you do this who hurt you what type of internal testing were you doing like did you forget that changes were made in the Codex that's most likely what occurred is like last second they ripped that off and forgot to take the points off yeah yeah yeah I mean it seems like some internal balancing with some Buffs overall some of the things I expected might get hit did not and the things that got hit are like one variant list like the the death sleeper and all the lior stuff that one looks to have gotten a little bit of a hit but like there's a lot of variety in the tyan and codex if I'm being honest there's at least three ways you can play it competitively or at least semi- competitively overall not bad I think they could use some point decreases more but uh I think it's fine to like Good Start let's see how things go uh World eaters is the last one I'm going to be real with you Chief I don't know I mean Corn's down in points oh lord of skulls yeah sure for the three people out there who own a lord of skulls yeah I mean I know you don't really care about the eight bounds so I feel like 10 points is probably a bit M but I don't know well you see some of these Nerfs are deserved because after all their win rate is all the way up it right exactly and that's the last time we're doing that joke yeah uh I don't know man it feels like some weird internal balance maybe sure I can't say I care if I knew what their win rate was and like they were like creeping up in problem territory I'd be like okay some minor Nerfs and one or two things to make you want to experiment with a list I mean yeah pretty sure that they're not these changes aren't drastic so unlikely to really change much overall I think the data slate probably hits them harder than their point updates if that makes sense so I guess let's do overall thoughts now that we've actually talked about it all I think overall it's probably minor changes to most with alari getting some decent changes through the data slate and then obviously jari is reinvigorated with an entire new awesomeness yeah custodies also Big Winners chaos demons when you're not souping and actually trying to play the faction proper pretty decent win it is a huge buff to chaos demons playing it proper Knights In general might actually have gotten a noticeable buff at least to not spamming as many wargs as possible I think it'll be a bit healthier pour one out for Imperial Guard players you know they what they did apparently like admech I get it next day to slate we can get admech fixed maybe if no changes happen again to admec next time we can complain there will be whether it is perfect fixes is a whole separate topic but if there's nothing again next time we can complain then there can be screaming yeah but this time was never going to happen I expect that in 12 weeks necrons will have a very bad day most likely yeah so enjoy that the next 12 weeks nekron players I'm not sure exactly what they're going to decide to go after it'll depend how things shake out we won't be able to properly guess till we start seeing how The Meta moves true but I have a feeling it's going to be pretty overall like let's get everything that's my thing is like nekron has a couple viable lists right now competitively I don't think we have a single list that is the problem child I mean the Katon list is a problem it is it's a Knights someone's going to scream about it but I don't think it's any stronger than the other better nekron lists out right now it's just the one that will get a visceral reaction I think the way necrons will probably get hit rather than like some data slate hit may just be a big point you know like X is up 10 x is up 20 x is up 10 x is up 20 the whole way through the Army pump the points up cross the board basically and that would probably be a solid way of fixing it and who knows maybe it's really it just Idols at like 55 and then just Nerf a couple things to try to move it down we'll see I think eldari is going to still be solid but they got hit a little bit them and CSM I think both got Nerfs that neither of those player bases are going to be shocked by I think they're both like all right we can work with it yeah so I mean overall like I said at the start honestly we're not in a terrible spot balance-wise right now there's issues about index versus codex and all the options but we're doing okay and I don't think that the changes any of these changes are like wrong yeah that's kind of my thing is like my main thing for data slates right now for the next two of them is going to be we've opened the door with rukari let's start curing boredom absolutely I'm expecting one for each at least like each data slate is going to come out with another this faction gets a new Detachment we have to be careful but yes so here's my thoughts is like thinking about this let's say you can change who's where right but our percentages next data slate is about what our percentages we're going into this data slate but with different armies in different spots things that are up high will get their normal Nerfs what I would like to see is things that are low get some extra detachments we start looking at things that have one competitive way to play that as soon as you Nerf it the faction drops to 45% we look at internal index balance of like okay maybe it's time to whip out data sheet changes to fix some of these yeah and thinking about it in that way I agree and I see the problem that you have with the Nemesis dread of like it's very possible that the good way to balance some of those especially the internal balance is changing data sheets and then we've got eight pages of data sheet changes and maybe they miss copying and pasting one of them and it goes away and it's like [ __ ] so yeah it's a problematic we have to change the angle yeah so that's my thought on this is like when the meta is horribly wildly out of sync like was the case for like half of ninth Edition data slates are there to fix the game we are currently at a point where data slates are there to do a little bit of fixing and also a little bit of let's try to Jumble up some variety so you're not bored 3 months from now playing your faction if you only have like one or two factions that's basically what I'm seeing totally doable so looking forward to them continuing the style and improving even more let's get some more of the pluses and minuses and formatting changes again there were misses but in general lots of positive things with this update actual improvements to how they're doing data slates too like I I do want to thumbs up GW for that good work continue same thing of like it's nice to have the video that goes along with it of like hey here's what we're thinking of kind of thing yeah we did end up watching that video before this where they like talk their thoughts through and they very quietly mention later on like necrons may also be a problem but we're waiting because the Codex literally just dropped deal with it yeah but they conveniently didn't talk about the fact of admech is a [ __ ] dumpster fire but the Codex just dropped to deal with it but it was implied no it's it's nice because like that's the kind of thing that could very easily fall off you know where it's like oh we're busy we don't have time to get the studio set up and all that stuff I appreciate the effort into putting that together even if it's a 15minute video just having the more honest discussion it's a little sales pitchy but yes I think AOS is still knocking it out of the park compared to 40K on this because one of the things I liked that AOS discussed on I think it was like 6 months ago when I was really paying attention that they did like a deep dive discussion on internal balance within each of the battle TOs and they were like not only are we trying to balance the TOs against each other but internally we'd like you to play like at least half of the models in this thing like we don't want you playing the same four models to hold up the whole faction and I think it was easier for AOS to get to that point because as a macro they were more balanced than 40K was a ninth now that we're getting to a point of like pretty balanced yeah we can have some more focus on the internal but yeah pretty good update that we got here unless you play IG true all right that's enough we have rambled for far too late
