of the son and of the holy spirit the lord be with you my dear friends in christ on this fourth and final sunday of advent we recall the fullness of time when the son of god became human conceived by the power of the holy spirit born of the virgin mary we remember mary's joyful acceptance of god's plan in her yes to god the word became flesh and made his dwelling among us let us join mary as willing servants of the lord and may our yes welcome christ into the world [Music] come on [Music] [Music] mercy upon us [Music] mercy upon us [Music] uh [Music] may almighty god have mercy on us and forgive us our sins and bring us to an everlasting life let us pray oh lord pour forth we beseech you your grace into our hearts that we to whom the incarnation of christ your son was made known by the message of an angel may by his passion and cross be brought to the glory of his resurrection for he lives and reigns forever and ever a reading from the book of the prophet mika thus says the lord you bethlehem ephrathah too small to be among the clans of judah from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in israel whose origin is from of old from ancient times therefore the lord will give them up until the time when she who is to give birth has borne and the rest of his kindred shall return to the children of israel he shall stand firm and shepherd his flock by the strength of the lord in the majestic name of the lord his god and they shall remain for now his greatness shall reach to the ends of the earth he shall be peace the word of the lord [Music] lord make us turn to you let all see your face and we shall be [Music] your saved and we shall be saved [Music] oh shepherd of israel [Music] and come to see [Music] [Applause] [Music] take care of this vine and protect what your right hand has planted the son of a man whom you yourself are made strongest [Music] and we shall be seen [Music] may your help be with the man of your right hand with the son of a man whom you yourself made strong then we will know more withdrawal from you give us new life and we will call upon your name [Music] us [Music] a reading from the letter to the hebrews brothers and sisters when christ came into the world he said sacrifice an offering you did not desire but a body you prepared for me in holocausts and sin offerings you took no delight then i said as is written of me in the scroll behold i come to do your will o god first he says sacrifices and offerings holocausts and sin offerings you neither desire desired nor delighted in these are offered according to the law then he says behold i come to do your will he takes away the first to establish the second by this will we have been consecrated through the offering of the body of jesus christ once for all the word of the lord oh [Music] [Music] may it be done to me according to your words [Music] a reading from the holy gospel according to luke mary set out and traveled to the hill country in haste to a town of judah where she entered the house of zechariah and greeted elizabeth when elizabeth heard mary's greeting the infant leapt in her womb and elizabeth filled with the holy spirit cried out in a loud voice saying blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb and how does this happen to me that the mother of my lord should come to me for at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears the infant in my womb left for joy blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the lord would be fulfilled the gospel of the lord have you ever experienced something that was absolutely unexpected something that turned everything upside down something that was all frightening and somehow it wasn't expected at all in the way it happened what did you do some people get angry some people get anxious they get upset sometimes people turn in on themselves and push people away and want to be alone for a long time is there another path when the gospel today mary gets news that is unexpected you're going to have a son you're pregnant and you're going to name this son jesus she's not married she's very young she's betrothed to joseph how can this be even the gospel says she's afraid what does she do she goes out of herself makes a dangerous journey miles and miles away to visit her cousin elizabeth and the gospel implies that she did this because of great compassion and love for her elderly cousin who is also with child and i'm sure that's true but can you imagine what that meeting was like it's called the visitation but in that meeting two people are able to unburden their hearts they're able to talk freely about something that happened that is almost unexplainable they're able to be reassured by someone else who cares they're able to find hope and a path forward an acceptance of what god has in store for them imagine what that encounter must have been like the gospel says mary stayed three months what those three months must have been like i wonder at times in our lives when things happen to us that are stressful unexpected sometimes very difficult sometimes very challenging what do we do and i think sometimes we do what other people do we get angry at other people we get irritated but what did mary do and how different that is if we can find a way to have a visitation in our own lives where we seek out someone we trust and we share with them our deepest thoughts our fears the way this is challenging us and listen to their counsel and hear their compassion and love for us what a difference that could make the truth is that there are people out there willing to do that for us but it's challenging and difficult to tell people the truth about our fears our concerns and also the challenge is when people come to us and want to talk about their lives and we say i'm very busy it's so close to christmas i don't know what i could add you'll figure that out maybe someone else could help you when in fact we may be the one who could make a difference in their lives the visitation happened in the gospel the visitation happened once when mary and elizabeth met and shared their hearts and their dreams and their hopes but it doesn't have to be the only time in today's gospel marries our teacher about the visitation are we really listening please stand together we profess our faith i believe in one god the father almighty maker of heaven and earth of all things visible and invisible i believe in one lord jesus christ the only begotten son of god born of the father before all ages god from god light from light true god from true god begotten not made consubstantial with the father through him all things were made for us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven and by the holy spirit was incarnate of the virgin mary and became man for our sake he was crucified under pontius pilate he suffered death and was buried and rose again on the third day in accordance with the scriptures he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the father he will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end i believe in the holy spirit the lord the giver of life who proceeds from the father and the son who with the father and the son is adored and glorified who has spoken through the prophets i believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church i confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins and i look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come amen with faith and with confidence we come before the lord with our needs for our holy father all bishops priests and deacons for generous service to all god's children let us pray to the lord for all those affected by the recent tornadoes for those who died and their loved prayer lord god we give you thanks for the example of the blessed virgin mary help us to find others who will open our hearts and our wills to do what you ask of us even when it is challenging as we make this prayer through christ our lord foreign [Music] [Music] god [Music] greatness [Music] [Music] let us pray that our sacrifice may be acceptable to god who is the almighty father may the lord accept his sacrifice at your hands for the praise and glory of his name for our good the good of all his holy church o lord may the holy spirit sanctify these gifts placed upon your altar just as he filled with his power the womb of the blessed virgin mary as we ask this through christ our lord amen the lord be with you and with your spirit lift up your hearts let us give thanks to the lord our god it is right it is truly right and just our duty and our salvation always and everywhere to give you thanks lord holy father almighty and eternal god through christ our lord for all the oracles of the prophets foretold him the virgin mother longed for him with love beyond all telling john the baptist was his herald and made him and made him known when at last he came it is by his gift that already we rejoice as the mystery of his nativity so that he might find us watching in prayer exalted in praise and so with all the saints and angels we proclaim your glory as without end we acclaim holy [Music] heaven and earth [Music] blessed is he who comes in the name of the lord [Music] us [Music] you are indeed holy o lord the fount of all holiness make holy therefore these gifts we pray by sending down your spirit upon them like the dewfall so that they may become for us the body and blood of our lord jesus christ at the time he was betrayed and entered willingly into his passion he took bread and giving thanks broke it and gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and eat of it for this is my body which will be given up for you in a similar way when supper was ended he took the chalice and once more giving thanks gave it to his disciples saying take this all of you and drink from it but this is the chalice of my blood the blood of the new and eternal covenant which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins do this in memory of me [Music] the mystery of faith when we hear this hope we proclaim your death [Music] therefore as we celebrate the memorial of his death and resurrection we offer you lord the bread of life and the chalice of salvation giving thanks that you have held us worthy to be in your presence and minister to you humbly we pray that partaking of the body and blood of christ we may be gathered into one by the holy spirit remember lord your church spread throughout the world bring her to the fullness of charity together with francis our pope david our bishop and all the clergy remember also our brothers and sisters who have fallen asleep in the hope of the resurrection and all who have died in your mercy welcome them into the light of your face have mercy on us all we pray that with the blessed virgin mary mother of god with blessed joseph her spouse with the apostles and all the saints who have pleased you throughout the ages we may merit to be coheirs to eternal life and may praise and glorify you through your son jesus christ through him and with him and in him oh god almighty father in the unity of the holy spirit all glory and honor is yours forever [Music] [Music] and [Music] at the savior's command and formed by divine teaching we dare to say our father who art in heaven hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us and leading us not into temptation but deliver us from evil deliver us lord we pray from every evil graciously grant peace in our day that by the help of your mercy we may be always free from sin and safe from all distress as we await the blessed hope and the coming of our savior jesus christ for the kingdom the power and the glory are yours now and forever lord jesus christ who said to your apostles peace i leave you my peace i give you look not on our sins but on the faith of your church and graciously grant her peace and unity in accordance with your will who live and reign for ever and ever amen the peace of the lord be with you always please feel free to share some sign of christ peace [Music] god you take away the sins of the world [Music] you take away the sins of the world of the mercy on us forward all the more eagerly to the worthy celebration of the mystery of your son's nativity who lives and reigns forever and ever this coming saturday december 25th is the solemnity of the nativity of the lord a holy day of obligation masses for christmas are as follows it's holy sepulchre christmas eve will be 4 p.m 6 p.m and 10 p.m on christmas day at holy sepulcher it will be at 8 00 a.m and 10 30 a.m here at st killian on christmas eve masses will be at 4 pm here in the church 4 p.m in the school cafeteria 6 p.m 8 p.m and 10 p.m on sunday christmas day saturday christmas day masses will be 8 a.m 10 a.m and at noon please note there were no evening masses on saturday christmas day merry christmas you're probably wondering how that four o'clock is going to work at st killian on christmas eve very well i think um how that's going to happen is that people are going to be able to sit in the front pews if they've never seen the front of the church before there's a lot of open real estate here but once this church is filled the live stream of this mass is going to be going on in the cafe downstairs in the hall and there will be a couple hundred seats there so that you shouldn't have to stand in the in the vestibule and then there's 250 chairs in the cafeteria at the school and they'll be like actual real mass there now the benefit of mass there is that that's all parking right in front of the school or right behind the school and we'll probably have the doors open so like the old days you can walk through the school and not in the cold if you're in the downstairs you can go out that bottom way and if you parked in the back you get in the car and you go right out so there's there's lots of hidden gifts in this schedule the lord be with you may almighty god bless you the father the son and the holy spirit this mass has ended let us go in peace [Music] oh [Music] is [Music] [Applause] [Music] god [Music] is [Music] [Music] rejoice rejoices [Music] [Music] is [Music] [Applause] [Music] you
