what's going on guys welcome arctic here and in today's video i'm going to be showing you how to model this cool 3d uh landscape diagram in revit so this is quite popular i've seen tons of images like this on pinterest and a lot of architecture and landscape architecture students tend to make these i think it's because well it does look really really cool and i've seen a lot of tutorials to create something like this but they're mostly or pretty much all of them are either photoshop or sketchup and i thought well you can do that in revit why would you use any other program apart from rabbit for modeling pretty much anything for your architecture project so in this video i'm going to be showing you how you can implement revit to create something like this and how can that look really really good so that's what this video is going to be all about i know before i get into the video i just like to ask if you like this video it helps me out a lot with the youtube algorithm and make sure to subscribe because i make useful revit tutorials each week i make multiple tutorials and you don't want to miss that also if you want to learn revit in depth because it is quite a complex software i actually have a website balkan arctic.com it's going to be the first link just below the video there i upload courses and i have like 100 hours of content on the revit where i take the extra time to go in depth into numerous rabbits advanced topics and also i have a beginner to intermediate level course so if you're just getting started it's the best way to learn anyways uh that's pretty much all i have to say about that check it out if you're interested and now we can get straight into rabbit and here we are in revit now let's go straight here into new and for the template file i'm just going to be using my custom balkan architect template the metric version and then i'm just going to click ok now as soon as revit starts up and let's give it a few seconds we're going to go straight into the site plan and this is where we're going to be creating our model now as i said this is going to include a little bit of water so it can be kind of some sort of a waterfront property that we're representing now for this i want the water to be at level 0 0 and then i want everything else to be above that so all the dry land should be above that and then the land should go kind of inside of water below zero now for that we have to actually see below zero and here in revit in the site plan just by default it doesn't allow you to show below zero so if i go here into properties i have to edit the view range but in order to be able to edit the view range i must i must just get rid of my site plan view template i'm just going to go here to none there we go and then let's go into the view range and just make sure that the bottom as well as the view depth are set to unlimited now when i hit apply and click ok well nothing interesting happened but that's because we don't really have anything yet okay so once we have that setting in place i'm just going to go here to the mask inside and then go straight to the toposurface tool now here uh keep in mind that my units are currently in meters so i'm just going to start with minus let's go with minus two meters and then i'm going to add four points so let's place four points just like this we can select them perhaps lower than double down a little bit to make them centered there we go next let's go to copy and then let's copy this a few meters off to this side so this should be at minus one next let's go to copy again let's copy it a little bit further here and then this should be at 0. next let's go to copy again just a little bit and then this should be 0.5 and then let's move it out just a little bit further this should be one and then finally we can go all the way up to i don't know let's go up to three at this side so let's say that this is three meters there we go okay then i can just hit finish and let's move to the 3d view just to see what we have created well we have something that looks like this and it looks fairly okay for now okay so the next step is going to be to create the water so the water is going to be quite simple i'm going to go here into the site plan and then i'm just going to go into architecture go to component and this is going to be modeled as an in-place component and then you can choose anything that you want this is just a quick little model so let's go into generic model we're not really going to be pulling any information out of this and then let's go to extrusion use a simple rectangle and then create an extrusion that kind of follows this line just like that there we go go to the 3d view this is what we have and now for the extrusion end instead of being at 2.25 let's go at minus 2 and then hit finish so as you can see it goes from 0 to -2 and that's exactly what they want to have now i can select this go into the materials go into edit and then here i can search for the water material now i have it here loaded in if you don't you can just load it from below here but anyways i can just click ok and now as you can see that's kind of transparent-ish and that's now water also i'm just going to pull it in here just a little bit like that perfect okay so let's finish this for now we are going to edit this a little later on but we can actually do that through this even so through these little grip points but anyways for now let's just leave it as is the next step is to add the sand obviously this isn't going to be like you don't get really grass underwater so i'm going to move to the side plan yet again and then let's select the surface and let's go to mask inside and use the split surface tool select the surface and then i'm just going to be using a simple spline and then doing something like that go back to modify perhaps move it out a little bit here perhaps something like that and then i can simply hit finish so now when we go back to the 3d view we can select this bottom segment here go into the material and then i can switch that to sand now if you're not using my template this is just going to be that default material so you might want to go here to by category and change this to grass and instead of using the regular grass i prefer the plant one and again if it's not here it should be here so you can load it in using this little button anyways i prefer using the plant material because it has this lighter green see and if i change that to grass see how it's darker so i don't like that so i prefer this anyways we have our little beach we have our little sand and then we have this upper part here now here i want to add some um let's call it like a little tracks so we're somewhere where people can kind of walk around so for that what i'm going to do is go back to the site plan and i like to sketch this out using some annotation lines so i like to go here to detail lines and then use simple splines and then we can say that we have something like that there we go that looks nice enough let's give it a little bit more bend kind of like that let's see okay so once you're happy with the line you can just copy that to the other side it doesn't have to really be even this is kind of like next to the beach front so it doesn't have to look too good but anyways once you create this what i like to do next is go to the architecture tab uh go to the reference plane and then create like a vertical reference plane running towards through the kind of center of that little track like this okay so once you have created this reference plane now if you go down and open up the south elevation you can see that okay that we have that which is here this is where that reference plane is kind of located now i'm going to measure so just use the measure tool and go from the inner section of that reference plane with the land down here so that's uh 1.32 meters so you want to keep remember that measurement why well now because when i go back to the site plan i'm just going to select this surface go into edit surface and then simply i'm just going to go to place points and then go to 1.32 and then with that i'm going to go like this so just adding those points all across this little track now because you want to kind of have a little bit difference in height what you like to do is here especially on the upper side add a bit more points like that there we go and then really close to them i'm just going to create a new one at 1.6 for example and as you can see i'm just going really close to those existing points with that 1.6 so you just want to go you you could have also used just copy and then changed so that now that they think about it that might be a quicker approach but it's not too huge of uh of a track so this could work as well there we go and then just hit uh finish okay so now when we go to the 3d view as you can see this is what we have created now we have this little kind of angle here and i actually like to hide that and you can hide that by going into your site plan and then you can go to your wall tool and here i have this useful 400 millimeter wall and then i can just use a uh start and radius arc like this let's see perhaps change this to finish face exterior flip it to the other side there we go so i would just use these kind of like that there we go all the way to the other side like this so once you have this little wall it's kind of embedded in that topography it's going to look really really cool when we go to the 3d view this is what that looks at the moment but if we select that and then change the height to let's try 2 meters let's try 1.8 there we go this looks cool and then at the bottom we can give it an offset of base offset of i don't know of like one oh then we have to reduce this to 0.8 that's okay there we go as you can see it kind of hides that little bump that we have and we can move it towards the inside just a little bit there we go so i really like the way that this turned out this aesthetic and then the next step is obviously just to go to your site plan go and go to masking site go again to split surface then you want to select the surface or alternatively you can use the sub region uh so for the sub region it would be kind of the the similar effect you just have to select these two let's just connect these yeah maybe some region would be better there we go and then you can select this sub-region and you can change the material and for this i'm going to add something like let's try some stone i think i have like gravel so you can use something like this okay so as you can see it just gives it a little bit of a different uh just a little bit of a different effect here and i think this looks really really cool i have a whole tutorial on how to create these walls so if you're interested i can leave it like in the in the description linked up so i i'm just going to include it there but there you go that's how you create this this looking track now obviously you can add some uh trees and some people and because i'm using my balkan architect customized template i want to go here to components well it's all there so i can just pick it up so for example here i have this little tree which i can use and then i can well place it there there we go a nice little 3d tree 3d tree that's uh tongue bender and i also have people here there we go we can place one alex here there we go well he kind of turned his back on us but that's okay then we can add alisa here just kind of reading there and then finally let's add the yin-ying there we go so i have some people here perhaps she could face lisa because this guy kind of turned his back on me so i'm just going to remove his friends there we go okay anyways we have some people here obviously can add a little bit more vegetation i can go here to place a component and let's add you can use regular trees if you're just going to be rendering it or you can use the 3d trees so for example i have this large tree perhaps we can add that there now you may notice that i'm kind of hesitant to place these trees off to the side so close to the edge and that's because of the next step that we have to do to turn this into that a cool little diagram so in order to turn this into a diagram uh you might you must use a section box so if i go here to the properties and turn on the section box there we go and then as you can see here it looks kind of odd it looks like a surface floating in the air but if i start bringing this in there we go it starts adding kind of that earth same thing goes here see and same thing goes from the back and the same thing goes from this side there we go looks much much better i know the downside with the water is the fact that as you can see it's all showing like this now you have a couple of options that you might resort to one would be to select this thing and then kind of carve it out to follow the edge of that beach or the the angle of the topography and that's that's a valid approach or alternatively you can select it go into edit extrusion and then you can just try to bring it inside of that section box just ever so slightly so we just reduce it like this there we go so you can kind of play around you just want to go right up the edge and i'm not really sure do we have that it looks like it's there just a little bit towards the inside perhaps if i go here to the left elevation yeah so as you can see it's not perhaps turned on 10 lines so it's not on the edge but it's really close to it there we go same thing goes on the other side so just bring it really close to the edge just like that and then you can look at it from the front really really close to the edge now what this will do is it will simply hide the earth here in that section view so it does just doesn't show water there especially when you render and so on so that is just one approach that you can that you can use to achieve this effect but there you go next also i like to hide the section box because it's terribly ugly so you can go here to hide elements and there we go we have that hidden section box uh now once you're happy with this or if you're not happy you can make some edits uh one thing that they like to do is i like to change the earth material that we have here now that material is specified in the masking site tab under the model site expand the site settings and then here we have the section cut material so that's this material here now here it's said to be earth which is perfectly fine it's just the color is a bit too dark uh now i'm not really sure which it's using so it's probably using this color here so we can go to image fade let's see will that make it a little bit lighter yeah looks so so we can just make it a little bit lighter let's try this there we go as you can see now it's just a tad lighter you can also tint it if you want and i'll give it some yellowish and let's see what this would do okay that's way too much let's hit apply there we go i think this looks a little bit nicer so it's kind of beginning to look really really good now obviously you can make some additions so one thing that they like to do is to add some text for kind of some annotation uh now for adding text uh what they suggest you do is first lock your 3d view so maybe the best thing would be first to crop that view so go here to crop make sure the crop region is visible and then just crop it like that so it's so it's well cropped anyways so once you crop the view we can turn off the region crop region visible or or you can leave it back on that's really up to you but really importantly here you get this little concrete view with a lock icon it says unlocked 3d view so once you click you can save the orientation and lock in that view okay we have to name this differently i don't know like our best 3d view ever okay so now it's locked so if i try to orbit it doesn't let me which is cool next let's go to annotate and let's go to text so i can just add i don't know walking there we go we can make that larger so let's use the century gothic 3.5 or even 7 millimeter there we go so this is like for the people walking and then we can also add a little leader that's well there they're walking there also you can go into edit type and i just like to change the leader arrow head to be a filled dot i have this 1.2 millimeter one which works nice small just like that or you can change it something larger if you're going to edit type so filled dot we have the three millimeter one it's perhaps a little bit more visible now also i recommend you play around with the uh with the scale of this thing because it might need a bit to be a larger scale so i think that one to 200 will work just right and then let's bring this down to 3.5 millimeters here and then obviously we have to change the leader head arrow leader arrowhead sorry filled. there we go looks a little bit nicer and then you can obviously add a bit more uh annotation and if you want to make additional additional additions uh here you will notice that it's kind of difficult because you can't use detail lines you can use field regions you're kind of limited here but if you go and let me just here uncheck the crop region visible if you go and place this on a sheet so if i go down to sheets right click new sheet and let's use the a2 title block which comes with this template as you can see it has this nice nice little information i know if you use this and if i now take this best 3d view ever and place it there let's get rid of that little title so no title there we go here now i can use detail lines i can add symbols so i do have like a little bit more settings can i add a decal no okay anyways so you can use details and for example what i like to do personally is switch this to white lines and then uh perhaps let's add like a white line here and turn off the 10 lines there we go so you can use like a wide line following this topography or because it already exists there you can go to detail lines and then you can yeah perhaps go like this just to kind of have a good base below there we go something like that and then you you can play around with it uh further if you want and then obviously this is going to look much better when it's rendered so if i try raytrace you can see how how good this can look when rendered there we go so as you can see now the water looks really good and the the beach and the trees and so on so you can really get a quite good of an effect and then uh if you decide to render it like this all of the annotation you would have to first save it as your rendering and then you can place all the annotation here on the sheet so for something like that you would go to render so rr is the shortcut for rendering and let me just go here too let's just go for draft for this one and then just give it a quick little rendering and just to demonstrate this okay so here we have a quick little rendering and then i would save that to the project i can call this the best 3d view then i would go to my sheet and let's move this up and okay see when you move it with this you have to select everything and move it there we go and again i seem to have not selected this there okay anyways now if i just go back here to renderings and place this rendering here and i can obviously get rid of the title now here you can use detail lines you can emphasize that bottom as we did you can use again detail lines to go all the way around here and emphasize that how the topography goes so you can i think that this is probably the best approach when it comes to like what do you get and then again you can use text place something let's use 3.5 millimeter and then you can i don't know water i'm such a visionary anyways let's add all something like that so there you go i think this is perhaps the best uh approach when it comes to representing this but this could work as well so but just usually this would be kind of the nicer approach now obviously make sure to render it a little bit nicer but in the end i think that the result is quite amazing so there you go it this tutorial was a little bit longer almost 25 minutes okay but the i think that the result is quite good really high quality anyways tell me what you think in the comment section below for more advanced courses i offer them on my website balkan arctic.com that's the first link in the description and there you can find like a hundred hours of content where i really go into depth explore exploring all of these revit topics and also if you want my revit project files like this thing that you have just created which looks kind of cool you can find that on my patreon page which is going to be the first the second link in the description anyways thank you for watching and i'll be back soon with another tutorial so make sure to subscribe thanks for watching and have a nice day
