alright guys another episode of 20/20 I'm not sure whether I should like tell you how awesome everything was this year and it was a great fun year and enjoyed hanging out with you on these 2020s or just get up and flip the table right over right but I do want it today thank you for all the support I didn't win one this year I know I've clawed and fought hard for it everybody in the house team SMC did great Tom almost won one I almost won one Beal at 1:1 Andrew Shaw won one as well and John Cox so pretty good we all made the Forrest Wood Cup good event and that's what we're talking about but before we get into it let me tell you a few things number one little fishing controversy I'm going to talk about at the end of the video little fish in controversy hopefully there's a lesson to be learned on that number two I want to go huge shout out to some of my sponsors that make all of this possible number one Affco love it love their stuff FK you rock number two start Ron been putting this in the boat all year long they even have a diesel formula for the truck that's been allowing that thing to somehow keep pushing miles and miles on it and a brand new partner realer shields mineral based sunscreen so here's what I'm gonna do two for one that's right buy one get one BOGO that's what they call it we're gonna drop a link down below in the description and that's what you're gonna get so if you go and buy a stick of the relay shield which is friendly mineral based it's it's the it's the real deal okay check it out that's awesome thank you very much now getting in to the video it's been a good year I didn't win a tournament though and I'm a little yeah about that I mean team SMC they did awesome this year I mean Andrew won a tournament B that won a tournament Cox want to turn him it Tom almost want to turn him in I almost want tournaments so really the house did phenomenal and I want to thank all of you guys first off for all the support this year all the support all the prayers pulling for me every single tournament saying this is yours this is yours I'm gonna be honest with you the support that you all gave me is what drives me it's what gets me out of bed it's what pushes me because I know that you guys want me to do well and I'm out there fighting absolutely as hard as I can and it I just didn't win one this year okay but that's not a bad thing I mean most people don't win tournaments every single year so I had a chance at hanging of the year I almost won a tournament but we are back again for another 2020 and the last one of the year Forrest Wood Cup was just last week if you guys watched a practice video you watched day one and two and you watched the final day video pretty incredible stuff Brandon you did amazing editing all that stuff cool super cool intros next level in my opinion if you haven't seen those videos guys when you get done watching this one we're gonna drop the links down below and check them out do me a huge favor as well subscribe to the channel thank you so much for all the people that are subscribed and click your notification bell and also one more thing very important share our videos out to 20 people if you can 20 people that's not that hard share the 20 different people go on YouTube hit the share button boom share it out to 20 different people and even a few you don't know okay so we're back again 2020 Forrest Wood Cup Bryan thrift won the tournament you know he was an odds-on favorite he's been clawing and fighting to win the Forrest Wood Cup for years and and he pulled off a victory I had a chance to make history I won a Forrest Wood Cup in hot springs on Lake Ouachita back a few years ago and I had a chance to pull off another victory there which I would have been the very first two-time Forrest Wood Cup champion so I just I just really wanted to win it but I'm gonna be really totally honest with you guys I'm a little embarrassed to say this then I was a little out of sorts before practice started I wasn't excited about Hamilton originally we said they said they're gonna go back to like wash it all which was a little weird I wish wish would've went somewhere else I love wash it all but it is weird go mad at the same place the next year they originally said wash it off so I'm like okay whatever I love wash it all so that's good and then all of a sudden they change it and they say you know what we're not gonna go to wash at all we're gonna go to Lake Hamilton and I look on the map and Lake Hamilton is like 7,000 acres guys 7,000 acres I mean that is like the size of a really big creek arm on Kentucky Lake I mean 7,000 acres is not big at all and I'm thinking to myself like this is gonna be awful it's gonna be boats going in out of pockets it's gonna be but everywhere you go there's a boat coming or going it's gonna fish super small the fish are gonna get beat up it's just gonna be a mess and I was just bitter about it I'm gonna be honest I wasn't excited about going to Hamilton until practice started because that's what I thought was gonna happen well pleasantly surprised I get to pray I get to practice first day of practice I start running on the lake and I'm like I'm not seeing anybody on the lake fishing like God would see a boat every once in a while the lake fish - really big so it was actually now looking back at it a great place to have a forest wood Cup and I would go back because it fished well with only 53 anglers or 52 enters what we had so that being said practice was was okay I found fish shallow on buzzbaits I was throw on a buzzbait with a Bandito bug in the back of it which was pretty cool also throwing some prop baits around the bluegill beds so I had a little shallow bite thing happening but the problem with the shallow bite for me was it was inconsistent okay at least I felt like it was gonna be inconsistent because a depending on where these places were on the lake that Lake it's a ton of boat traffic on the weekends and our tournament was Friday Saturday Sunday so Saturday Sunday was gonna be jet skiers and water skiers and wakeboard boats and just a lot of wave action and some of these places you find in these creeks or Bay's that they ski in is liable to have a lot of wave action on the shoreline which would might throw the bite off quite a bit so I was really spooked about that shallow bite for it personally but I was still putting together not a winning bag but enough to kind of like I might be able to survive on this deal and get lucky and catch a big one and pull something off special and then I ran up the river and I ran up the river and the water up there was much cleaner it was actually cooler because it's comes out of Lake Ouachita and they generate current up there so they release water from Lake Ouachita into Lake Hamilton the current flows in that river when that happens the water would cool off quite a bit and the water get extremely clear and the fish would start biting so secondary practice I ran up there and I caught some fish in practice and I could just see I could literally see them which was cool and I just feel like the grade of fish there we're a little better wasn't quite as many as I was hoping for but I felt like if I got five bites every single day I had a chance to pull off a victory up there and I saw some really big ones swimming around on some big swim baits and we'll talk about that here in just a minute but basically that's what I did guys I found some fish down in the lake but once I found that River bite I pretty much settled in now you ask yourself you know what did I throw what was that problem well very easy tactic little one-two punch right here Dugan bait lunker log okay that's all that is right there googan bait lineker log green pumpkin I rigged this up on a favorite jackhammer there's actually a jackhammer 7 to medium action rod 15 pound P line X braid the yellow braid 8 pound are actually eight and ten pound P line fluorocarbon with a trocar weedless wacky hook hooked right in the middle and I would skip it up under the docks and skip it up under the lay down trees and those fish especially when the Sun got out would really react good to this just letting it fall you know it was really cool I've just basically sat on a matter of fact here take a look at a few of these little catches here where I'm skipping that bait up under those docks it's really cool [Applause] [Applause] number one waypoint there's another one with him bigger one with him bigger where'd he go there's another one with him dang bigger one with him but that's good that there's multiple under those dogs so that's what I'm talking about I mean just getting that bait and skipping that lunker log right up into the dark parts of that dock and a lot of times this fish would just get it instantly I wouldn't even hardly work the bait let it just sink sink sink don't you feel them so hats off to trocar hats off the P line tactical for not breaking the rods were flawless I mean really I feel like that setup right there the favorite setup jackhammer with the peel on and everything that's that's pretty much money right there that is a money finesse setup right there thank you guys for that now the other thing that I was so on and I don't have all of my tackle with me my boat is actually on the road right now still I flew home but I was throwing these big giant glide baits big giant glide baits and big giant swim baits now check this thing out now we're dealing with we're dealing with Bassett Lake Hamilton that were you know a 2 pounder was considered a good one and this bait right here is pretty big I was actually throwing one in the tournament it was I think it was a hardcore glide bait big trout and it was bigger than this one but basically that's what I was throwing guys right there now the tail on this one's a little messed up because it's been sitting in my garage but this bait has a neutral buoyancy and and you know different brands I was strolling different ones I through a river to see you when I threw a hardcore I I just kind of mixed it up I'm not a big glide bait expert as far as what brands to throw and all that kind of stuff but I basically wanted to show them something a little different so I rigged this bait like this up on 17 pound pline tactical fluorocarbon and I was rolling it around the corners of the docks in front of the docks and at some of the lay down trees the key to the swim bait was letting the Sun get up or letting the afternoon bike get on the water warming up this fish would kind of get in position now here's what I did wrong you know 2020s about how I could have improved what did I do wrong i I've been telling people you know I know everybody lost fish but I feel like I was literally one inch from victory and what I mean by that is that's how many big giant bass were right behind my bait they were right behind my bait so some of them hit it some of them didn't get hooked good some of them just kind of hit the sides of it and get hook at all but I literally literally saw them chasing the bait down which is crazy now what could I have done different number one with the glide bait which is where I really could have improved I believe is making longer cast I was too close to the target so instead of making a super super long cast to my target and and working that bait all the way back to the boat where it's way way far away from the boat I was basically half cast become it's a hard bait to throw and I would make a half cast real debate through the water column I'd see the fish a lot of times come up and start chasing it but really by the time I saw they're kind of seeing me they're wanting to eat the bait so they got a little apprehensive and that's what messed me up if I were to stayed way way back made bomb casts that way I could have rid that bait through the water call him for a long ways stayed way back I really feel like I would have caught probably half of those fish that were shadowing the bait or hitting it kind of apprehensively so that's really where I messed up you know it's it's it's just kind of a kind of a lesson learned you know what I mean now as far as the lunker log I don't really I think I did everything good on that you know you do miss a few on wacky style baits you know maybe should experiment a little that was some flutes and some other types of swimbaits but for the most part I was getting good reaction I the big swimbaits and the lunker logs so that's really what I was doing right and a little wrong at the same time the other thing is the last day you know you in the back of your mind you keep saying to yourself well I need to I need to go I need to go back out to where some of those docks are those fish are it's that time of day right where I can start on the swim bait not kept just I hung around a little too long messing around with the no Locker log when I should have picked his bait if I'd have picked this bait up about 45 minutes to an hour sooner on that last day again I would have caught several more fish I know I would have because they were really on fire so that's really where I messed up but again congratulations to to Bryan thrift I mean you guys unbelievable so many guys everybody in the top ten did great it was it was a good event all right now it's time to talk a little bit about the fishing controversy oh yeah this is kind of becoming I think a little bit of an issue and this part of the video I'm gonna talk about something that happened at Lake Hamilton in the fourth foot cup that is a learning experience okay so here's what I want you to do guess I don't want anybody to bash if they know who the person was I don't need any bashing going on in the comments I don't need any of that because I've already talked to the people involved they've all everybody's apologized everybody's cool but it is a learning experience okay you know it Lake Champlain Tyler Stewart got blocked from his fishing spot with some locals and that's a whole nother mess it was in the previous twenty twenty and I didn't think that was very cool but it is what it is this is a little different and what happened was on the final day of the fourth foot cup only campbellton way up the river where Dakota Eber and I were both fishing I noticed a boat fishing the write-up of the damn Dakota and I was sharing these two or three little spots in right there like one little point a slack water spot a little slick spot in the grass there was two or three little places that these fish would kind of set up on and you could go up there and get one bite or two bites and then you'd have to let it rest and kind of reload and then do it again and Dakota and I were both sharing he would go up and fish it for a little bit and leave and then I'd go up and fish it and back and forth and I pulled up there to fish it and got on the right side on the right-hand side of the river and I'm watching Dakota and I'm noticing there's a boat over there like literally fishing while he's fishing like like they're rikes very very close and they're cast and he's cast and I'm like what's going on there's like locals over there or something in a nice ranger fishing and so the Kota leaves didn't catch anything and I finally make my way over to that side kind of like that spot rest for a little bit and and there's two young teenagers fishing hardcore on the spot and they actually catch a nice bass right in front of me and hold it up and and I don't really say anything to them other than like hey guys are you all in a tournament they're like no we're just out here fishing and trying to catch a walleye and I'm like man you know like Dakota and I are both fishing this spot right here it's kind of like a bad deal that you're right here and the reason I was getting on to him is because there were tournament anglers I mean the one kid had a tournament jersey on you know they've been following the tournament they weren't even from the area they actually drove over to watch and I'm sure they were just out trying to fun fish and then lo and behold we show up so you know it wasn't that they were like moved in on us we kind of moved in on them but proper etiquette would be guys put your rods down once you kind of figured out that you know the couple of the top five guys guys that have a chance to win the fourth Wood Cup are fishing right here like literally right here you should probably just like roll it up and watch hang out cheer us on I love when people cheer us on but that didn't happen and so it's a learning experience hopefully for those young men and hopefully for you watching back at home I know there's gonna be people drop in comments going oh it's a free lake you don't own the water if they're there first you shouldn't approach on them I get all those comments I understand what you're getting at but this is a little different because these guys were obviously following the tournament they knew what was up and it was just one of those things and it is what it is but it's a learning experience so here's what I'm asking the bass fishing community to do is a for the locals and the people that live on these lakes when there's a big major event going on to be a little extra considerate when you can and I'm also asking the pros like myself and Dakota and these other anglers on the water to be considerate to the locals you know they're out fun fishing and it's really easy for us to pull up in a very nice way and kind of explain what's going on like hey guys you know I've got a chance to win the tournament I'm actually fishing all right through here where your boats sitting you know can I make a few casts whatever the case may be 99% of the time if you approach it like that people will be like oh that's cool man here let me move out of your way and they'll watch you you coming in there screaming and yelling at people not the right way to do it at all okay so there's some lessons we learn on both sides here guys but again for all the young anglers are watching there's more young anglers fishing in today than ever before and I think there's needs to be some proper instruction on etiquette those unwritten rules right so that's where we're at you know because if you do code only had four fish if he caught an extra fish which was one of the ones that those guys car those kids caught all of a sudden he's got a limit he comes in second place if he then gets momentum after catching his fifth one he's all fired up he runs down the lake fires a lure up beside some other piece of cover and catches a six pounder and a five pounder and boom next thing you know he has a biggest bag in the tournament and it's all because of that momentum of finishing out his limit I was stuck on it with a 12-inch er if I would have caught a nice three pounder at that spot around 11 o'clock it would have actually changed the whole dynamics for me as well so you know it was one of those deals it was a small little area they were fishing hard lesson learned you know whatever it is what it is but I'm just hoping this little video and talking about it will kind of educate people a little bit on etiquette on the water with the locals and with the pros because we both have to get along on the water so that's all I have to say about that guys thanks for hanging out with me we've got more videos coming we actually have some more tournaments some Team USA stuff coming down the pipe lots of cool stuff and thank you for all the support again love you guys so much we'll see you soon bottom [Music]
