25 Pixar Moments That Shocked Everyone

pixar is a huge household name and has been pumping out hits for well over 20 years this is due in no small part to the sense of comfort and nostalgia that long time fans can get from these charming films appropriate for kids and their parents alike but this cozy comforting sense is not enough to carry these fan favorites all on their own pixar has always peppered its flicks with surprises for its audiences too join screenrant as we take a look at some of the most ridiculous awe-inspiring and just plain surprising moments of all the pixar films [Music] the ending of the 2007 fan favorite ratatouille is truly one of the most jaw-dropping moments of any pixar films notoriously snobbish food critic anton ego writes a great review for gustos and is not offended by remy the rat cooking his meal because as chef gusteau would famously say anyone can cook things are looking peachy for remy in the restaurant when gustos is suddenly shut down turns out that the health officers weren't the biggest fans of the idea of a rat cooking people's dinners lucky for remy and company they end up recovering creating their own restaurant called la ratatouille in the final moments of the film it's hard to believe that monsters inc was released almost 20 years ago especially considering how popular it remains today this is due in no small part to the most surprising direction that this movie took pixar in nowhere before had anyone imagined that a couple of monsters could play the role of the good guys in a kid's movie maybe the most surprising moment of this classic comes towards its end when mike and sully have reported their arch nemesis randall boggs to the ceo water news for trying to forcefully extract screams from kids mike and sully discover that water noose has been working in secret with randall the reveal comes when he suddenly banishes them to the human world landing them in the middle of the himalayas during a blizzard what a twist sometimes the most shocking moments in these movies happen right up front at the beginning this is the case with up the movie opens with a love story in the form of a montage towards the end of this tender montage following the main character carl's relationship with his childhood sweetheart and wife ellie things take a sharp turn for the tragic to the tune of sad music fans watch carl hover over his wife's hospital bed and sit alone on a bench in a funeral home after she's passed away it's shocking to have such a lighthearted kids movie open with such a tragedy finding nemo is another pixar classic that opens with a horrible tragedy in the heartbreaking opening scene marlin's family and his home get ravaged by a barracuda attack just like up this leaves marlin widowed the barracudas not only eat his wife but also all of their not yet born kids still in their eggs nemo is the only family member marlon is left with which explains his overprotective ways in the rest of the film once again it's a true surprise to see such a cheerful heartwarming kids movie open with a tragedy flashing forward several years after this heart-rending opening scene audiences watch nemo getting dropped off at school by his overprotective dad marlon feeling embarrassed by his hovering father nemo tries to prove his brave and rebellious status by agreeing to a dare to touch a so-called butt as he and his classmates say he strays away from the group only to be captured by a scuba diver and put on a speedboat kicking off marlon's search for him throughout the rest of the film one of the most thrilling shocks of finding nemo is the spectacular final escape nemo makes from the dentist's office aquarium he's been trapped in most of the movie follows nemo planning his escape from the aquarium by lodging a pebble into its filter system so that the dentist will be forced to clean the tank and nemo and his aquarium friends meanwhile can roll themselves in their little plastic baggies out the window and into the ocean it is a total heartbreaker to see this quest fail not once but twice and for some time nemo's prospects are looking seriously bad it's a huge surprise then when nemo's on the fly last resort planned to pretend to have passed and get flushed down the toilet into the sea succeeds the 2008 pixar sci-fi favorite wall-e includes a delightful shock for audiences after following the sprightly dynamic robot hero wally throughout the film it is heartbreaking to watch him get crushed by otto it's maybe even sadder still when eve returns to earth and repairs him only to find that he's been reset in the process showing no signs of his original personality it is a super sweet surprise then when wally suddenly has his memory jogged by a kiss for me restoring him to his usual lively self a shocking bit of social commentary also takes place in this critically acclaimed environmentalist hit when wally first boards the axiom spacecraft when he leaves earth and first enters this airborne human civilization he discovers the only surviving humans have become obese and lazy consuming non-stop and barely lifting a finger to accomplish simple daily tasks it is a huge shock to see such a mature political standpoint represented in a pixar movie some of the most shocking pixar moments have to do with the way characters get introduced to audiences take for example syndrome the bad guy in the incredibles while waiting in a boardroom at his new job mr incredible is attacked by the omnidroid a five-legged spider-like weapon which is revealed to be controlled by syndrome when syndrome says after all i am your biggest fan mr incredible recognizes him as buddy a kid who was part of his fan club years ago who has grown up to become evil after mr incredible rejected him another shocking character reveal along the same lines takes place in the 2017 smash hit coco the film follows main character miguel as he seeks out his great grandfather he had never known in the land of the dead for most of the film both miguel and the audience are led to believe that his grandfather is ernesto de la cruz a famous mexican folk guitarist and miguel's favorite musician this is the case right up until the moment when ernesto welcomes miguel as his descendant at his home in the land of the dead however miguel realizes it is actually hector a friendly old musician he meets there and who helps him track ernesto down who is his great grandfather he realizes this after piecing together the fact that ernesto and hector were musical partners in life and that hector had all the talent leaving ernesto to poison him when he leaves to return to his family maybe the most shocking character reveal in any pixar movie is the latest installment of the toy story franchise out in theaters now the film opened several years earlier and fans watch woody say goodbye to beau peep on a rainy night as she prepares to be thrown away it is therefore a huge surprise when woody stumbles across beau peep's old carousel lamp in an antique store in the latest film only to bump into beau literally later that day at the local sandbox her brave powerful characterization adds a ton to the film and this is probably why woody makes the perhaps even more shocking decision to join her as a lost toy at the end of the movie another shocking ending to a pixar film can be found in the 2006 flick cars audiences follow the brash overconfident race car rookie lightning mcqueen throughout the film who is bent on winning the piston cup against race car veteran strip the king weathers and dirty playing chick hicks given his super macho drive to win the piston cup title throughout the movie it is super surprising to watch lightning mcqueen allow his competitor chick to win at the end of the film when he stays back to push his injured competitor the king over the finish line lightning clearly has been transformed by the experience of getting to know retired racing veteran doc who was forgotten by the race car world after getting injured in a race [Music] the central conflict of the acclaimed 2015 flick inside out is quickly revealed to be a shockingly dark one dealing with childhood depression this bright cheerful colorful movie follows the personified feelings in protagonist riley's head as they struggle to retrieve her core memories from being converted to entirely sad ones after moving away to san francisco for her dad's new business riley feels isolated and lost she creates a sad core memory after crying in front of her new class causing joy to get driven into a frenzy knocking out all of her other core memories and getting herself lost in a maze of long-term memories enjoys absence anger fear and disgust take over it is truly shocking to have a kid's movie center on the tragedy of childhood depression undoubtedly one of the most shocking moments of the toy story films takes place in the first movie when buzz and woody encounter resident bully's sids group of mutant toys these creepy hacked up toys emerge from the dark corners of sid's room when buzz and woody get trapped there made from the parts of other toys and knickknacks these horrific mutant toys attack buzz and woody as they try to make their escape the traumatic experience of watching this horrifying scene as kids totally doesn't still give us nightmares or anything the end of the original toy story is also a big shocker in it buzz and woody missed the moving truck and are forced to craft their own way back to andy in this super high adrenaline scene fans watch buzz and woody get attacked by a dog buzz gets stranded and the two desperately chase after the moving truck and andy's remote control car rc before it runs out of batteries and deserts them again in the nick of time woody remembers that sid has strapped a rocket on buzz's back he ignites it and they just barely managed to slip into andy's car undetected the climax to finding dory the 2016 sequel to finding nemo follows another unruly shocking car chase on route to cleveland dory and the octopus friend she makes in captivity hank end up hijacking a truck filled with various aquatic creatures in a plan as on the fly and last resort as nemo's final escape in the previous film they crash into the sea freeing all of the animals into the ocean this high adrenaline off-the-cuff plan just barely works out and the scene keeps audiences on the edge of their seat the whole way through in one startling toy story 3 scene mr potato head transformed into mr tortilla head after being forced to use a tortilla as a makeshift body fends off a hungry pigeon as he tries to execute the toy's escape plan the pigeon is unrelenting and tears mr tortilla head to pieces literally before he's able to carry out the plot this scene is either horrifying or hilarious depending on how you choose to look at it another surprising moment takes place during the toys attempt at escape from sunnyside daycare where they all are trapped in toy story 3. the toys accidentally reset buzz when trying to calm him down he suddenly reverts to his factory settings acting as though he's only just come to life but with an added surprising twist he's been reset to spanish mode the other characters are stunned by his change when he grabs woody's face to give him a double kiss on either cheek woody is in disbelief another daring plan that shocked fans with its edge of your seat action can be found in the 1998 flick a bug's life the film chronicles an ant colony's difficulties with pleasing a nasty grasshopper named hopper who bullies them for food when hopper takes over the colony driving everyone into starvation in order to feed him all of their food the movie's protagonist flick and the motley crew of circus bugs that he's friends with work together to free the ants this daring perfectly executed plan involves a constructed decoy bird and a circus cannon among so much else one thing is for sure this is one of the most nail-biting shockers of an escape scene pixar fans could hope to see fans were shocked to see woody kidnapped for a second time in toy story 2. after woody's arm is torn he gets left behind while andy attends cowboy camp meanwhile a greedy toy collector takes woody from a garage sale after andy's mom refuses to sell him to him the collector plans to send woody to tokyo and things are looking pretty dire after audiences watch him fix him up for sale going so far as to paint over the proprietary andy scrawled on woody's boot it is a huge shock to watch woody gets stolen and doctored up in this frankenstein-like scene nowhere do the toy story films take a more shockingly apocalyptic turn though than in the third film in it the toys end up at a landfill where they are swept onto a conveyor belt leading to an incinerator fans and critics alike agreed on this as one of the most shockingly high stress cataclysmic scenes of the franchise bringing tears to the eyes of many as they believe their ends are approaching the toys hold each other's hands it truly looks as though this is how things will end for woody and the gang driving the point home that it is being together that truly matters woody and his friends are as shocked as audiences were when the aliens swoop in at the last minute with their awesome claw crane operating skills to save them the development of jack jack superpowers in the first film of the incredibles franchise is one of the most sudden and exciting subplots in the film throughout the movie audiences get used to the idea that jack jack the baby of the incredibles family is too young to have any powers yet things ramp up in the final battle against syndrome when jack jack gets kidnapped it is super shocking then when he is able to suddenly escape thanks to the sudden manifestation of his superpowers he burns up in a rage in syndrome's arms transforming suddenly into a ridiculous but super powerful mini devil jack jack's relationship to his superpowers continues to be one of the most surprising elements of the incredibles franchise in its second film in this sequel mr incredible finds himself totally exhausted by the uncontrolled outbursts of jack jack's wacky powers which as a mere infant he can hardly control mr incredible decides to leave him with edna mode their trusted costume designer and family friend in the montage that ensues jack jack's powers are revealed to be more wide-ranging shocking and just plain powerful than could be imagined in a shocking twist the franchise seems to be suggesting that this baby sibling will be the most powerful in the whole family a big reversal of the typical princess movie storyline takes place in the 2012 fan favorite brave following the traditional rules of her kingdom the film's protagonist princess merida must host a tournament to have the sons of her household's allied clans compete for her hand in marriage finding a loophole in this age-old tradition however merida announces that she will enter the tournament to compete for her own handed marriage after choosing archery for the competition she beats out her competitors and wins her own hand though she struggles hard for the rest of the film she ultimately wins her right to not have to marry anyone and becomes the first ever single princess of all the major animated films another last resort escape plan provides one of the most shocking moments in the 2013 monsters inc sequel monsters university after getting stranded in the human world by having the door they came through deactivated mike and sully realized their only way for them to return to their world is to generate enough scream energy to power the door from their side in a tense last ditch attempt they work together to terrify the campers at the summer camp where they get stranded hardscrabble is shocked when they suddenly erupt back into the monster world only seconds before the door overloads with scream energy and explodes proving mike and sully both as worthy scarers it's no wonder pixar movies are such fan favorites beyond their sweet and soft elements these films are full of shocking moments everyone is sure to
