from the rubber house style behind a Steamboat Willie to the fuzz of animating the fibers of mr. incredible shirt for generations Disney pushed the boundaries of film not every one of their movies is a hit though and some are torn to shreds before they can even hit the cutting room floor that's why this video is going to cover 25 films that Disney canceled and the weird reasoning behind those cancellations yet ready to learn a lot about Disney's backdoor business drama spider-man 3 Tom Hollands time is spider-man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has come to an end even though holland is still on board for the role Disney and Sony couldn't reach another rights agreement as such Disney had to cancel the third MCU spider-man movie now before you get too bummed out it does seem pretty likely that Sony will continue the franchise and make at least one more spider-man movie however Disney won't be involved whatsoever and that means it won't feature any MCU characters that means no more happy Hogan no more Nick Fury and no more of Peter Parker trying to become the Next Iron Man movies are canceled all the time because different parties couldn't reach a deal these kinds of cancellations usually aren't this public or hurt this much The Sims as a franchise The Sims has sold more than 200 million copies since the first game launched in the year 2000 with such staggering success and eventual movie adaptation seemed unavoidable this adaptation could have come to fruition but then Disney bought 20th Century Fox Fox was the company producing the sim spell even if it seemed like the project was stalling out since Disney acquired 20th Century Fox they haven't given any updates and it's safe to say the project is in development limbo which is almost worse than being outright cancelled when you think about it lots of people would love a sins movie it'll only be disappointed as the years go by without a single update gigantic gigantic was supposed to be Disney's 59th animated feature film and centered on a young man exploring the world of giants it was to be co-directed by Nathan green oh the director of tangled and Meg Lefou who co-wrote inside out and later Captain Marvel then the project was unceremoniously canceled in October 2017 apparently the film just wasn't coming together creatively and that's what led to the project's cancellation while it's disappointing this is actually pretty common in the world of animated films making an animated movie is a gigantic undertaking and even one or two missteps in early producing can really hurt a project sometimes you have to cut your losses like a beanstalk and that's what Disney did here king of the elves Blade Runner arguably one of the best films ever made is loosely based on the philip k dick novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep so you'd think that other movies based on Dick's work would be a total lay up right not so much king of the elves was a Disney project based on the philip k dick short story it would have followed the story of a rural gas station owner who becomes the elf king after saving a band of elves from an evil troll sadly production issues stalled the movie and people involved moved on to other projects leaving this short story unadapted the graveyard book another film that's not quite canceled but definitely on its last leg is the movie adaptation of Neil Gaiman 'he's the graveyard book following the life of a boy named nobody who's raised by ghosts and maybe a vampire the graveyard book won the Hugo Award for Best novel the unusual and darker story could make for a great movie but it looks like Disney just can't bring it to life while there is a chance that the graveyard book movie could release sometime in the future it'll probably be laid to rest instead Yellow Submarine Yellow Submarine is a 1968 animated film that's largely inspired by the music of the Beatles it's considered a hallmark in animation and still has an iconic visual style no one would ever try to remake a movie that's still so widely recognized right well Disney tried to write up until they realized how terrible of an idea that was this CGI remake of Yellow Submarine was set to feature 16 Beatle songs and have Robert Zemeckis in the director's chair this project was cancelled largely to budgetary reasons after all it is really expensive to license Beatles music and the Zemeckis is previous animated film Mars Needs Moms was a total box-office flop Mort Discworld is a massive fantasy series that centers on a flat world balance the top three elephants that stand on a turtle the fourth novel in the series Mort focuses on a young man named Mort it becomes the grim reapers apprentice high jinks ensue of course and by the end death convinces the gods to reset reality and Mort marries princess this could have been a pretty fun movie except Disney wasn't willing to front the cash for it the film rights to the more novel were only available as part of a package deal with the entire Discworld franchise which would have been way more expensive than Disney buying the film rights to a single board so the Hausa Mouse ultimately decided against making this movie untitled Mickey Mouse film for a company that so fiercely guards the ownership rights to Mickey Mouse Disney doesn't actually do a whole lot with a character sure there are the Mickey Mouse cartoon shorts and all of the branding around the character but there hasn't been a Mickey Mouse movie in forever that doesn't seem like it'll change anytime soon either for a stretch back in 2011 Disney legend Bernie Madison was working on an untitled Mickey Mouse film featuring Mickey Donald and Goofy there haven't been any updates on the project in nearly a decade though and it's presumably no longer in production newt newt was going to be a Pixar film about two blue footed newts who come together to save their species from extinction and that sounds an awful lot like the Fox film Rio that's because it is the similarities between the two projects played a big part in newts cancellation production issues also spurned newts cancellation well the project was in its early stages both executives and story boarders were far more interested in producing inside out while newt could have been a great Pixar movie Disney probably made the right call considering inside outs widespread acclaim The Jungle Book 3 a lot of traditionally animated Disney movies have sequels or spin-offs most of these projects are direct-to-video like Kronk's New Groove or Lady and the - but some of them never come to fruition this is the case for the jungle book 3 this direct-to-video sequel would have involved Mowgli saving Baloo and Shere Khan from the Russian circus but it never materialized maybe if it did we'd finally learn how Baloo went from being a regular old bear to a pilot and tailspin sadly though it looks like that mystery will endure well at least until Disney decides to reboot that cartoon ala ducktales the Aristocats to the original Aristocats is a weird movie it centers on an eccentric former opera singer willing her fortune to her cats and her butler trying to claim that money for himself the cats are made out to be the good guys but their cats money's useless to cats and it's objectively better spent improving general society it's probably a good thing then that the Aristocats - movie was cancelled that movie would have seen the cats taking on a jewel thief aboard a cruise ship which would only reinforce these animals having way too much money admittedly the Aristocats is a fun film with some catchy music but we really don't need any more of that chicken little the ugly duckling story Chicken Little as a CGI animated movie that's very loosely based on the folktale of the same name the movie features several other characters based on fables and like Foxy Loxy fish-out-of-water and run to the litter a sequel film was planned to focus on the supporting character ugly duckling but it never came together Chicken Little was a very meta movie that often mocked the cliches and tropes common in Disney animated films it's kind of a shame that the ugly duckling story never came together as it may have paved the way for more original stories and Disney movies Meet the Robinsons first-date Meet the Robinsons is another CG movie by Disney with a rather complicated premise here the orphan inventor Lewis has to go forward in time to help a time cop stop criminals that he himself inspired it's a sweet movie about the value of family and pursuing your dreams but fights off a little more than it can chew narrative Lee Meet the Robinsons first date would have likely centered on Lewis going on a date with his future wife and the two eventually starting the Robinsons family the project was canceled though when John Lasseter became Disney Animation's chief creative officer sadly it doesn't look like we'll ever return to Meet the Robinsons now much less distant future of 2037 the Seven Dwarfs admitted the Seven Dwarves are the best part of the snow white movie even hearing the words hi-ho makes you start humming that classic earworm Disney wanted to capitalize on the iconic Dwarfs and to make a lord of the Ring style sequel focusing on them as you can guess that direct video movie never came together however the project was instead transformed into the animated television series the 7d this show focuses on The Adventures of the dwarves before they met Snow White and lives up to the pitch of the cancelled movie now we just need a movie where the mice from Cinderella get their do Pinocchio to the original Pinocchio is a classic movie that hasn't aged particularly well after all the movie is strangely structured features children smoking and drinking alcohol and a number of inappropriate racial characters a sequel could make the iconic movie quite a bit more compatible with modern sensibilities but was unfortunately cancelled supposedly this film would have focused on Pinocchio's life as a real boy and approaching daily life in the world for the first time it could have been an interesting look at the unfairness of everyday life in general and equality but was shelved indefinitely maybe some of these ideas will appear in the rumored live-action Pinocchio movie but that project is also up in the air Disney Princess enchanted tales sequel Disney Princess and chanted tales follow your dreams was a spin-off movie that expanded on the lives of Disney Princesses the film featured two stories one centering on Princess Aurora and the other unprinted these stories flesh out the personalities of the princesses and give them a lot more agency than they had in their original appearances enchanted tales was set to be an entire direct-to-video series but was cancelled after the poor sales of follow your dreams it's also unlikely that the series will ever return as Disney is changing up the Disney Princess brand in some big ways ultimately enchanted tales turned out to be more of a pipe dream than a successful franchise Fantasia 2006 the original Fantasia is nothing short of a cornerstone in western animation the sequel Fantasia 2000 was more poorly received and barely managed to break even at the box office that is probably why the third entity in the series known as Fantasia 2006 was cancelled thankfully though many of the completed works for Fantasia 2006 were repurposed for other projects the destino sequence was included as an extra in the 2010 re-release of the original Fantasia similarly the Lorenzo and the little MatchGirl animations were included in collections of Disney shorts while we probably won't see another Fantasia anytime soon at least Disney made the most of this cancelled project Mulan 3 the original Mulan is one of Disney's best animated films which is why a live-action remake is happening soon the direct-to-video sequel Mulan 2 was less well received and largely ignores the empowering themes that made the first so beloved of course John Lasseter canceling all direct-to-video sequels also played a big role in this film never releasing Disney fans probably didn't miss much with Mulan threes cancellation but it could have been interesting to see where it went it's a pretty safe bet that the live-action version of Mulan will be a better experience overall than whatever Mulan 3 would have been Finding Nemo 2 in the mid-2000s Disney was going to make sequels to a bunch of Pixar films that the company owned the rights to after Disney purchased Pixar the plan more or less ended s Pixar took over the production of these sequels this led to a bunch of canceled movies including Finding Nemo 2 Finding Nemo 2 would have been vastly different from the actual sequel finding Dory Nemo 2 would have been all of the discovery of Nemo's long-lost twin brother and the capture of their father Marlin considering the overwhelming success of finding Dory canceling Nemo 2 was definitely the right call Monsters Inc 2 lost and scared eyes while monsters University did break the continuity of the series at least its title wasn't a bad pun like Monsters Inc 2 lost and scared ice this cancelled sequel would have involved Mike and Sulley getting trapped in the human world after discovering that boo moved while trying to give her a birthday present the two have to find her while trying to find a new way home this film was also cancelled because of Disney purchasing Pixar which means it was probably for the best Pixar has a pretty solid track record and it's smart of Disney to let them handle their own IPs Toy Story 3 a toy story 3 film that actually released is a terrific movie that grew up with audiences who watched the first films at their premiere the Toy Story 3 that was cancelled was going to be a little more than a rehash in the first two movies the canceled Toy Story 3 would have seen woody and company rescuing buzz after he's shipped to Taiwan as a part of a mass recall this movie was also cancelled when Disney bought Pixar and it's easy to see why the cancelled film would have been a hodgepodge of the first two movies whereas the Toy Story 3 that actually premiered is a fresh take on the series which which based on the book of the same name which which is a story about a wizard who wants to find a wife before he retires he organizes a competition for witches to determine who will be his bride and they sold good which ends up winning it says humorously dark as it is playful which makes it a great children's book however which which has since fallen into production limbo and is as good as cancelled this book really does deserve a movie adaptation so hopefully the project will be revived in one form or another Treasure Planet 2 the original treasure planet was a visually impressive and inspiring film it's fantastical sci-fi premise had a cosmic scope and it perfectly managed to capture the feeling of being a space adventurer also the movie lost Disney about 30 million dollars with Treasure Planet being such a massive box-office flop it's no surprise that Disney cancelled the sequel well this is a bummer and a blow to creative filmmaking at the end of the day Disney is motivated by profit if a film doesn't perform well of course they're going to cancel any future plans involving that project ironically Treasure Planet was just a bad investment for Disney the search for Mickey Mouse the search for Mickey Mouse was supposed to be a film to commemorate Mickey Mouse's 75th birthday in it Mickey Mouse was to go missing and various Disney characters from different movies had to come together to find him what could have been an interesting celebration of Disney's history and animation was instead cancelled because of script problems instead of the search for Mickey Mouse Disney developed the direct-to-video Mickey Donald and Goofy the three musketeers which earned poor reviews what could have been a celebratory moment for Disney's history was instead reduced to a gimmicky film that few liked hopefully Disney gets it right for Mickey's 100th birthday or they could finally let the character into the public domain either would be great where is Roger Rabbit Who Framed Roger Rabbit is an iconic movie that reinvigorated interest in animation in 1988 it marks the first time Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny ever appeared on screen together and was a runaway success some kind of sequel to the movie has been in the works since the release of the film such as where is Roger Rabbit but none have come to fruition a variety of issues are preventing the production of where is Roger Rabbit or any other sequel most creators involved in the original film moved on to other projects and the author of the book the movie is based on sued Disney over royalties more over the modern Disney company isn't really interested in making another Roger Rabbit movie thankfully the original still holds up to this day which of these cancelled Disney movies hurts the most for you please let us know in the comments section down below also remember to like this video
