25 essential new york city tips in 10 minutes  let's do it there's three area airports jfk and   laguardia in queens newark in new jersey if you're  flying internationally arriving in newark and jfk   will get you to midtown manhattan and about the  same time if the prices are equal i prefer jfk   but i'm happy to fly out of newark if i can get  a better deal here's a jfk airport hack to get to   midtown manhattan that a lot of tourists have  never even heard of if you take the air train   from the terminal to get to jamaica station now  most people are gonna buy a metro card to take   the subway but did you know for seven dollars and  75 cents just a two minute walk from the air train   is the long island railroad you can even pre-buy  the ticket on your phone with the mta e-tix app   and you can get to midtown manhattan in as little  as 20 minutes which is twice as fast as taking   the subway for just five dollars more these trains  have luggage racks generally it's easier to find a   seat and minus all the smells of the new york city  subway every person i have ever taught this to has   pretty much stopped taking the subway from midtown  to get to jfk airport you've got to try it if   you're coming from newark airport you can take new  jersey transit after you leave the air train and a   mistake i've seen so many tourists make is getting  off at newark penn station stay on the train until   the last stop new york penn station you don't  want to make this mistake it's no surprise to   this youtuber that new york city has the most  expensive uber prices in the country and i have   seen surge fares well over 100 especially coming  from the new york city airports a lot of times   it's actually cheaper to take a taxi than it is  to take an inflated uber price and do the math   because jfk airport has a set fair make sure not  to accept rides from random people offering them   and anyone holding up a sign that says uber  does not work for uber you've got to call   uber's yourself you made it to new york you're  probably going to visit times square at least once   don't take anything for free not a cd or a mixtape  from a rapper not a bracelet from a monk not a   picture with elmo nothing is free in times square  don't find this out the hard way please don't eat   at any chain restaurants in times square no  olive garden you're in a pinch over there   los tacos number one some of the best tacos in the  city ny pizza suprema across the street from penn   station also a really good choice do not stop  in the middle of the street to chat with your   friends don't stop in the middle of the street to  take a photo don't even stop in the middle of the   street to tie your shoes pull over to the side or  at least look behind you to make sure that nobody   is in the direct vicinity this is the quickest  way to get locals angry at you the most expensive   hotels in new york are in midtown yes it is the  most central and the most convenient location   for most tourists but if you're looking to save  money consider staying in long island city queens   downtown brooklyn heck even lower manhattan is  going to be cheaper than a lot of the expensive   hotels located in midtown you want to go to a  rooftop bar that doesn't get enough attention   we covered this on our times square hidden  gems video beast and butterflies at the m   social hotel i have gotten tons of you tagging  me on instagram stories about this place and   that's a sign to me that you all love it it's  got a great view overlooking times square   tons of drinks and it's just a great experience  for a tourist to feel that atmosphere of midtown   manhattan 24-hour bodegas or delis are something  that you really don't see outside of new york city   for your food needs at any hour of the day they're  generally staffed 24 7. you need sandwiches bacon   egg and cheese a salad supplies good to know about  these located in just about any busy neighborhood   people ask me sometimes if there's just one place  to eat that will give you that authentic new york   city experience where would it be what would it  be i would say go to sarge's deli your classic new   york city jewish deli order a pastrami and corned  beef sandwich you can easily split it it's so big   old school feel like a diner you will not regret  it trust me i'll put them over cats's any day what   would be the fast food version of this authentic  new york city experience i'd say going to a halal   truck my personal favorite is adele's located  across the street from radio city music hall   absolutely fantastic chicken over rice  with white sauce hot sauce pure perfection   if you're really into pizza dig through the  channel we have done dozens of videos on new   york pizza when you're here get a dollar slice  just so you can tell your grandkids that you   had a slice of pizza in new york when it was  still one dollar because the dollar slice spots   while not the best are going extinct quickly my  personal picks in manhattan bleaker street pizza   the nona maria slice my absolute favorite all time  if you're going to brooklyn check out luigi's in   park slope if you just want an old school pizzeria  the way they used to be if you want to step off   the eaton path when you're in new york city and  find out why this is the most diverse place on   earth you've got to go to queens and you've got  to eat in jackson heights now we've done videos   on the place but if you need somebody to show you  around check out my good friend greg's food tours   in jackson heights he is a wealth of knowledge  putting a link down below you won't regret a   tour with him believe me let's talk broadway  and i don't have any magical tips to get you   cheap tickets to the hottest shows what i can tell  you is today ticks is an app that anybody coming   to new york city who wants to see a show needs to  have they've got good discounts on there they've   got rush tickets they've got lottery options  check it out even before you come to the city   tipping for my non-american viewers out there i  know this is something that can be very confusing   even frustrating at times at a restaurant  assuming that everything went well i will tip 20   on the pre-tax total and when you're at a  restaurant in some touristy areas be careful that   they don't add an 18 auto gratuity if they add  it just pay that as your tip but do not add any   more to that sometimes it's a little bit sneaky  for my drinkers out there if you're at a bar   rule of thumb tip one dollar per drink if you're  at a cocktail spot you can always tip 20 percent   on a big bill omni is now available on all new  york city subways and buses and what that means   is that you can pay directly from your smartphone  without even downloading an app you just have to   have a wallet and a credit card pre-saved i use  this all the time right now and i was a very   late adapter to it my metro card is collecting  dust right now the only place you have to use a   metro card is to pay for the air trade subway  apps city mapper is still my favorite because   it tells you the best places to sit on the subway  to get closest to the exit it's really easy and   simple to use but i also like google maps because  it's a little bit more accurate if there's any   changes with the trains so i generally recommend  having both on your phone very few tourists know   about the indication board also known as the zebra  board new york city is the only transit system in   the world where the conductor will always stop and  point at this zebra-colored board at every station   and what that means for you is one if you're a  single woman or you're just concerned about safety   you know where to sit on the train where the  conductor is available if there's some kind of   an emergency situation and two if your phone's  not working or you're just not sure if your stop   is coming up you can always ask the conductor if  your stop is on the line really good local tip i   was taking the subway home a few weeks ago from  manhattan to brooklyn it was about midnight and   a guy was obviously drunk and he was shouting  and he was saying does anybody want to fight   me i knew that he was just posturing but still  when the train pulled up at atlantic in brooklyn   literally half of the subway car just got up and  moved to the next subway car so you can see that   new yorkers are used to doing this when necessary  but it's pretty rare a mistake to avoid is trying   to hail a taxi when the yellow light in the  middle is not on if that yellow light is not   on showing the number and letter of that taxi it  means it's occupied first i'm concerned if you're   visiting new york city for the first time this  needs to be one of your stops just remember to be   respectful don't take any smiling selfie pictures  there it's a place of reflection and respect   the most underutilized and i think underrated  form of transportation in new york city are the   fairies and if you have to take just one easy  ride go from dumbo next to the brooklyn bridge   to pier 11 by wall street and you can even walk  the brooklyn bridge from manhattan and take the   ferry back that ride absolutely magical wear  comfortable shoes now unless you're coming from   a big world city most of you watching probably  drive just about everywhere you have to go   so break in some comfortable shoes before your new  york city trip don't test them out when you're in   the big apple because that's one of the biggest  complaints i get from you guys is the amount of   walking that you have to do there's no cars coming  most people will just cross the street i've never   seen the police write a ticket for this so don't  be afraid to jaywalk there's even more mistakes to   avoid that i didn't have time to put in this video  but in this guide right here we discussed 12 dumb   tourist mistakes that you don't want to make  so just in case check this video out believe me
