23 Year Old Business Owner | Day in the Life

[Music] myself hi guys welcome to a day in the life of a 23 year old business owner going to work out read my bible and then get my day started just as a disclaimer i don't normally wake up this early i'm trying to wake up earlier um so i decided like why not start the day that i'm vlogging because then this motivates me to like get things done [Music] so i control the volume i like [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay so now i am at my desk i have my coffee and my black santa mug from target things i have to do right now is pack a few orders pack a pr box which i'm excited about i'll tell you about a little bit later i think that's all i have to do right now and then i'm going to go mail that out come back and just work on like graphics and um my social media calendar for the week okay ignore this this is what i had you guys on but my little christmas tree so cute and if you don't know i'm a big brother super fan so i always just have that playing in the back and then on this laptop is where i do all of my work this thing because my computer is always running out of storage okay so i just printed out some of my tic toc stickers on the sticker paper and if you use a cricut you know if you're using glossy paper it doesn't like recognize these lines so i have to put matte tape on top of the lines so that it will recognize it so i put like a double layer of tape and then put it in since i'm selling these packs um for i believe they're 13 on my website for a pack of 50 so if you're a small business owner and you want and you pack orders on tick tock definitely get these because a lot of customers like them in their packages especially if they follow you from tiktok okay so now i'm gonna package them and then i have this organza bag that i just got like i think like 200 of them off of amazon for super cheap maybe like 10 or something like that and i just stack them in there and close it up then i grab one of my gold poly mailers i love these they're so cute but for any small things like accessories or these stickers i always put them in these cute polymers so i just put this and the sticker into there too [Music] i like to drink to myself [Music] [Music] i just [Music] okay so this is how i pack it i fold them all up nice and neat um she got two of our melrose hoodies and then i can't do it with one hand but you get the gist i go like that i go like that and then i put the sticker there i have the sticker thank you cards this is just kind of like a long thank you letter so i guess it's kind of like two thank you cards the invoice and then i put that i stuff that all into the little little slit right here i'll show you in a second okay so this is how i like stuff it in so this is my little packaging station i have my thank you cards up here some extra card stock paper and stuff stickers this is for the free mass chains with an order over 75 dollars um some more stickers those are the poly mailers i use for the smaller things my rolo printer okay that it has so many wires let me know in the comments if you can relate it's so annoying and then on the bottom shelf is my tissue paper and my poly mailers the tissue paper is from etsy and the poly mailers are from eco enclosed they're post consumer recycled material so yeah i love my little packing station okay so i just finished packaging all of those orders next i'm going to do my first pr box which i'm super excited i got some like cute little gifts to add to the box to make it a little extra special and then i'll show you when i'm done okay so here's the box i'm including a little honey face mask because it goes with the theme of milk and honey cute fuzzy sleep mask flippers our brown teddy face mask and a gold mask chain and then thank you card a little milk and honey sticker and a little note for her and i'm going to close it up and box it into this brown box okay to print my labels i use it connects to everything wix squarespace shopify anything that you have you can add it as an app to your website um and then it finds you the best shipping rates okay so i printed out on the wrong dimensions by accident so i printed out every other but i just like tore off the blank ones and separate it okay i have all the labels shipping labels on there i have to go to ups and usps um it's just how it worked out with the pricing and then i also add these milk and honey stickers super cute and for the packages that i pack on tick tock i put these as xenon tick tock stickers on okay so now i'm just going to clean up the office a little bit so i can go mail these out [Music] let's go to the post office first and then ups because ups is closer to starbucks and then i have to go get a package from my basically i have like a digital address and it's a po box but it's not at the post office someone did an exchange um so she sent me back the pair of pants that she bought i just want somebody to [Music] uh yes can i do the bacon sausage and egg wrap at the best place on earth okay guys so i have to do this fast because my camera looks like it's about to die but i'm in the mall parking lot like on the roof about to film a tick tock um i'm i asked you guys on tick tock this morning if there's any questions you want me to answer so i'm going to go ahead and answer a few of them um if any more i asked it just a few hours ago um so if any more come in after this maybe i'll do this again like at night someone asked how to find vendors now this is probably like one of the most asked questions it's probably the hardest thing to do when starting an online clothing boutique especially if you don't live in la i'll tell you two websites that i started out with is fashion go and la la showrooms i believe fashion go is really good they have so so many vendors so definitely do your research on all the vendors and wholesalers um that are on fashion go but they have a lot then there's some wholesalers in downtown l.a that you can find in the fashion district a lot of people ask not only me but i see a lot of other small business owners get this question a lot of a list of wholesalers that i use i don't know if you'll ever find any um boutique owner that's gonna share with you their list of wholesalers and it's not like gatekeeping or like being rude or anything if someone gets the same wholesaler receipt or a list of the same wholesalers as you it's like what's stopping them from creating your same store you know and other stores are gonna pop up with the same stuff and maybe have it at a little bit of a lower price than me and so then my customers go there instead okay second question is how were your first few months into being a business owner i love this question so it's kind of like twofold so i officially became a business owner in june of 2020 but i didn't launch until october of 2020. so that like six seven month period was all just planning it was so much fun like oh my gosh incredible it was cool to like come up with these ideas and i'm into graphic design too and video editing so i was designing all my logos my website design all of that stuff was so much fun to me and it almost felt like i was doing a school project because i was a fashion merchandise major in school so it kind of felt like that for a while and then once i announced it and launched it and had physical products it was like whoa wait this is real life stuff like i'm a real business owner i own a boutique it's sick to think about sometimes then now since i've been open for a little over a month now it's been incredible like i thought that the first part was really fun because it was just all like creative stuff and i was like all right here's when the hardware comes in it's definitely gotten harder because now it's about packing orders and making sure customer service is okay and keeping up my social media okay camera just died but just to sum it all up it has been absolutely incredible i've received a lot of support and i'm just so excited and i thank you guys so much um for supporting milk and honey really [Music] so i forgot the last thing that i vlogged i think i was in the parking lot still and my camera died um but i've gotten quite a bit done today and i'm starting to hit a wall it's only 6 45 but i'm extremely tired i think this is from me i mean i went to sleep at like 3 a.m no like two like 2 30 last night and then woke up at like 6 40. trying to shift my sleep pattern so i have to just stay up while i'm going very slowly which is annoying me right now i'm working on my website i've been working on my website for about like two and a half hours i'm completely changing the layout the graphics everything on the website is changing and i'm doing everything by hand no themes no nothing a lot of times business owners will hire a web designer to do this but it's kind of something that i already know how to do basically almost done but i feel like i if i was like on it and not as tired i would have gotten this done probably like an hour ago but my brain is like not there right now that's about it i i've gotten like two or three more orders so i might pack those so that i can have them ready to go out tomorrow morning so like i said earlier i'm a huge big brother fan but right now there's no big brother so i've gotten into this online kind of version of big brothers it's sort of different but called sequester and so that came on last night and one of my favorite podcasts rob has a podcast is doing a live stream about the episode so i'll watch that while i eat maybe and then finish up everything i said i had to do oh my gosh no way i have to do full makeup i have to do full makeup to finish a tick tock video i have to post i'm doing talk miss on tick tock which if you're a small business owner and you're not on tick tock you have to get on tick tock like so many reasons i'll make a whole separate video about like why tick tock is so important for your business but if you are on tick tock or if you want to join join in on i created this um trend called talk miss it's basically like youtube's vlogmas where uh youtubers vlog every single day leading up to christmas so we're doing the same thing on topmiss and it has almost a million views i think now on tiktok which is really exciting um hashtag it and follow milk honey style on tick tock and now i'm just rambling so i'm gonna go make some ramen just in case you didn't believe my big brother addiction i have a big brother slop cup that's how obsessed with the show i am so shout out taryn armstrong my face so now i'm doing my makeup i have all my makeup out here and i'm gonna make a hot chocolate and lay my bed and watch a movie i did a lot today and i deserve to watch a movie and drink hot chocolate can we have a moment for the makeup okay so i just finished my makeup i'm gonna film my tic toc i'm actually just gonna set you up right here [Music] only my tic tocs i changed into three different looks gonna change into one more cozy look i'm gonna show you guys how it turned out you get a sneak peek because i don't think i'm posting this for a few days [Music] i'm back in my comfy clothes so i'm gonna clean this all up right now um so that i can take off my makeup make my hot chocolate and go lay down and when i'm laying there i'm gonna answer some questions the rest of the questions and you guys asked me some more questions so i'm gonna answer all of that together look at the cute face i love my baby okay so my work day is over time to relax wind down it's already 11 10 and i wanted to be in bed falling asleep by 10 o'clock but as all you small business owners know we work until the wee hours of the night it was actually a pretty successful monday um okay so earlier when i was in the car answering questions my camera died remember so i'm going to finish answering some of the questions that i got oh how do you stay motivated great question there's two parts to this one it's easy to stay motivated when you're doing something you're passionate about so don't just if you're thinking about starting a business don't just start a business to be like oh i want to start a business whatever like take the time to really figure out what exactly you want to do starting a clothing boutique right that's a super saturated market if you want to do that it's amazing i definitely recommend you do but don't just do that because you're like oh this seems like the easiest one to do like do something you really love if you're into making candles or body scrubs or i don't even know being on tick tock small business community i've seen so many different kinds of businesses that are insane you'll never believe how many people want something that might seem so niche to you right the second part of how to stay motivated is always coming up with new ideas like every single week every single day i'm always thinking of something new i can do and i reach way outside of the box and that's what motivates me to wake up and be like okay what can i do today for the website like what can i learn new today so i think just staying creative and not making it mundane another one says um i want this camera oh this camera yeah this is a canon g7x by the way that i'm filming on um but finding vendors and shipping biggest advice you'd give someone who wants to start a clothing boutique i already talked about vendors um shipping like i said earlier in the video i use shippo i definitely recommend to use either shippo or pirate ship i think is what the other one is called they find the lowest prices for you for shipping shipping like say i use wix so if you do shipping through wix or through shopify through squarespace and you use like the one that says usps approved rates or something like that it's going to be super high those websites so you have to do it through a third party so get one of those apps like shippo or pirate ship how to price your products good product photos and best marketing and branding tips okay how to price your products i actually have on my website milk honeystyle.com if you go to the small business owners tab in the menu you'll be able to buy one of my budget sheets and it's super helpful you guys and there's a whole bulk of a section dedicated to just inventory so you write down the item that you are pricing how many of them you got the cost of the item that you paid for it and then how much you want to mark the item up for like say you want to mark it up 55 all you do is type in 55 and then it comes out with the retail price you need to have what your markdowns can be like all of that already fills in for you so i definitely recommend this a lot of people get it and say that it has helped their business so much so i recommend uh what was the other part um good product photos yeah you have there's not really much to say about that you just have to have good product photos in order to sell anything whenever you're in business you're selling a lifestyle say i'm selling sweatshirts i'm not selling sweatshirts i'm selling how you're going to look when you're drinking your coffee on a rainy day products so definitely taking product photos and not just like on white backgrounds white backgrounds are good for people to see exactly what it is but more like lifestyle shots especially for retail best marketing and
