hey everyone it's Ben Hardy here and in today's going be comparing the Toyota Tacoma to the Toyota Tundra to see which Toyota truck you should buy before we get in this video want to give a huge shout out and thank you to the larer to here in Murray Utah for give me some time with both of these trucks includ a link to their website in the description down below so you can check what they have currently and then on a side note if you're want to save time and money the next time you purchase a car link to my carbine guide in the description down below let's get into [Music] it under the hood of the tundra is a twin turbo 3.4 l V6 that goes through a 10-speed automatic transmission fuel economy 17 around town and then 22 on the highway with power outputs being 389 horsepower and then 479 lb feet of torque you can also get a hybrid version of this powertrain and that puts out 437 horsepower and then 589 lb F torque now powering the Tacoma is a turbocharged 2.4 l four cylinder that goes through an 8speed automatic transmission fuel economies 19 around town and then 24 on the highway with power outputs being 278 horsepower and then 3177 lb feet of torque you can also upgrade to a hybrid with this that'll bump things up to 326 horsepower and then 465 lb feet of torque before we move forward with this comparison I do want to mention if you want to see more videos just like this then I recommend you subscribe because I post content every single day so so starting off with the front ends you can see stylistically there's a lot of similarities look at the headlight design on both of them they both even have the little accent piece that kind of Pops down below the headlights and so the Tacoma kind of looks like a miniaturized tundra I mean look where the fog lights are how that's shaped same thing on the Tacoma buta Tacoma does have a huge air dam there at the bottom whereas with the tundra it doesn't have an air dam like that so it does make the tundra look a little bit cleaner with the design but yeah they shock ly I mean they're different right the grill and the Tacoma is a lot more reasonably sized than the tundra but they're also shockingly similar now around the side here our T wheel setup is 26578 in the front and over in the rear and you guys can see with the wheels silver for the coloration on the tundra got these big chunky fender flares and fenders and then kind of Pop to the side here so you can see the full side view do have uh coil suspension in the back end with the new tundra now with Tacoma our turn wheel setup is 2457017 in the front and over in the rear you can see silver with the wheels just like the tundra unless the fender is all painted I almost always call it Fender Flare because it looks like it but it's part of the body work so it's technically Fender but anyways taking a few steps back see smaller proportions than the tundra uh we do still have coil suspension in the back end with the new Tacoma now popping the bed notice we have an actual handle for the tailgate it is dampened so it does slow lower down yeah protection from the factory with this got bed lights as well s to comea there at the end and decent sized bed for midsize pickup truck now with the tundra it's interesting this is a button that you press so the Tacoma it's like a latch but the tundra it's a button but anywh who you can see we've got protection here from the factory and a lot more bed space this is the longer bed you can get with the tundra for those of you that are wondering so not perfect comparison but still that's a benef for the Tundras you can get a much bigger bed lifting up the tailgate it's actually got a little bit more weight to it now when it comes to rear Style look at the Tacoma tail lights two lines whereas the tundra has three lines you actually get a little bumper step there on the tundra which is cool it's it's little pop down kick step but yeah aside from that they both kind of have a similar boxy shape with the back end the tundra just kind of like the bigger version a lot of the body lines now that I'm seeing them next to each other they're a lot more similar than I initially thought and both of them have the exhaust tip that pokes out the side on the same side quite a bit the tundra just looks more reasonable because the tundra is a bigger truck now in the back seat of the Tacoma you guys can see leg room here uh pretty normal for a midsize pickup truck uh don't get any padding or anything with this SR5 trim but I do have some cup holders here uh and then Headroom it's pretty good and then with the seats themselves you've got this nice cloth trim all down the center now on the back of the tundra leg room is pretty similar because this is the smaller cab for the tundra so the smaller cab for for the tundra is as big as the biggest cab you can get for the Tacoma just to give you guys an idea of space between the two trucks in the back anyways we've got some cup holders here and I like these seats they're cool the trim down the center and then head back here it's actually pretty similar and starting her up ooh four cylinder Rumble so with Thea we've got 1,200 lb of payload nice sound this door closing soft touch here got blind spot running with the mirrors you can see all our window controls and everything and then got some controls here like stability there on the side here's the steering wheel perforated on either side so you can get a good grip with it um we've got practical stuff like adaptive cruise control you've got your volume controls all that then you can see our gauge cluster with the kind of digital element there in the center which you can use to see different bits of info on systems in the vehicle regular old backup camera there and then Toy's newer infotainment system so quick response time easy to use single zone climate we do have heated seats and heated steering wheel we also have a wireless phone charging pad in this one and this one has the removable JBL speaker which is kind of cool feature got this shifter pretty hardcore looking our four-wheel drive select uh with a toall mode and our ECT power so just traditional two-speed transfer case some more storage kind of like nice trim there storage above the glove box box this is Tacoma we got the glove box itself and then we do have a power sliding rear window with this as well and then MSRP is 46,5 29 let's pop into the tundra and ooh V6 Rumble so we have 1,490 lb of payload we actually get soft touch here at the top and it's down below in the tundra blast Bing with the mirrors bunch of controls here on the side just like the Tacoma steering wheel shockingly similar with the trucks see basically the same control stack and then we have a more analog gauge cluster here in the tundra interestingly enough regular backup camera just like this coma it has the same infotainment system so we're not really going to dive into that we do have our heated seat controls here uh we actually have duone climate in the tundra see the stability control down below and then notice we do have trailer brake controls got basically the same shifter with that little charging or not charging area this is where you could get one but this one doesn't have it so little storage area drive mode select the toall mode traditional two-speed transfer cases like the Tacoma good storage inside like this little kind of pass through here and then storage above the glove box then we got the glove box and then we do have a power sliding re window as well and then and 55,69969 sense do the small truck go to the big truck see if the big truck's worth the extra money see if that big V6 when I say big big compared to this engine s going over the four cylinder good torque good torque it'll be interesting to see how the hybrid power train performs I have a suspicion that the hybrid is going to make a much bigger difference in the Tacoma than it does in the tundra in terms of the speed and how it drives yeah good power transmission smooth it's it's a nice drive does sound like a 4cylinder but it's a nice torquey 4cylinder I think they've I think they've done a pretty good job with this setup yeah that torque is is nice truck's comfortable too that'll be another key thing to see if the tundra is you know that much more comfortable compared to the Tacoma and I guess the last thing that I'll say steering wheel it's interesting how similar the steering wheels are in both of the trucks but yeah so with that being said we'll pop into the tundra and I'll kind of talk about what feels different when we go into that from the Tacoma so I will say right off the bat the bolstering in these Tundra seats isn't as aggressive as the Toom which is kind of nice anyway there's your visibility feels like it's a little bit less like uh tight than the Tacoma the interior feels more open engine sounds quite a bit different that is instantly noticeable notice the torque difference too right off the bat even though this is a bigger heavier truck it feels noticeably more powerful yeah I don't feel like I have to get into the throttle as much with this this compared to the Tacoma doesn't necessarily ride any better you know I thought with the longer wheelbase might be a little bit more comfortable with this with the ride it's not really too different it's it's a little bit more more cloudlike a little bit floatier but it's not as big of a difference as you'd think oh my gosh people in Utah person's like it's like patience yeah it's got good power it's got really good power I will say you kind of this feels better on the bottom end they both feel it's not like the Tacoma's fast or anything but it doesn't feel that much different on that when you're on the top end with them which is interesting because this has way more horsepower more cylinders everything so interesting with the engine performance so with that being said you know do you go Tacoma or Tundra and yeah this is kind of a obvious answer depends what you're using the truck for right if you're going to be doing a lot of off-roading with the truck then the Tacoma is smaller vehicle right it's going to be better for that if you're doing a lot of Towing and Hauling right this is bigger bigger bed all of that if you're using it as a family vehicle yeah the tundra I mean this version of the tundra right not as quote unquote family friendly with the double cab uh configuration but if you're you know getting the bigger cab comparing that to the biggest Cab in the Tacoma yeah this is a lot this is a lot more spacious like it's it's quite a substantial difference so let me know if we go Tacoma or Tundra I think there's pros and cons to both of them but uh yeah let me know what you think
