hey everyone it's Ben Hardy here and today's video is a cap off of our midsize pickup truck Showdown we are comparing the new toy to Tacoma to the new Ford Ranger Chevy Colorado and Nissan Frontier to see who makes the best midsize pickup truck now just a quick backstory I did post a walk around comparison comparing all the features of these trucks so if you haven't seen that video already I'd recommend watching it uh but for this video all you need to know is all of these trucks sticker for about $ 46,000 and so although the equipment will vary truck to truck the price is the same so if you've got about $446,000 burning a hole through your pocket should you go Toyota Ford Nissan or Chevy and then last thing I want to mention before we get into the video a huge shout out and thank you to the Bren brown toy for give me the Tacoma the Ford improv for give me the ranger the Chevy improv for give me the Colorado and then the kengar Nissan and Orum for giving me the frontier link to all the websites in the description down below let's get into this three-way or sorry three-way four-way rather four-way driving comparison to see which truck is the [Music] best Nissan Frontier let's talk about visibility here's of the hood both mirrors do a blind spot wondering and got the rear let us set off Frontier is the most old school pickup truck midsize pickup truck you can buy hydraulic steering naturally aspirated engine and it's built on a platform that was developed like over two decades ago so it's it's got that old school rugged truck feel that I personally love is the steering heavy yeah does it have that kind of chunky heavy feel yeah but it feels like a real truck and it's reliable like one too or like one ought to be right this uh V6 it's got great torque smooth too the suspension is comfortable seats are comfortable any Frontier overall it's just a nice drive I think that Nissan's done a really good job with this truck and it handles pretty well for yeah and that's good power and it's just so linear because naturally aspirated V6 big displacement 3.8 L such a smooth Powertrain you really can't beat it and you know going let's just go over like the bumps here again the suspension just handles it so well the only thing is when you're at like really low speeds here you can see the steering you got to turn it a bit um I'm it's probably going to look effortless on video but again it does have a it does have a heavier feel to it than modern vehicles with electric power steering but you know what trucks they're supposed to require a little bit of muscle to use so that is the frontier Pro 4X good oldfashioned pickup truck but it's still brand new with the warranty can't go [Music] wrong let's talk about visibility in the Colorado sure put with the hood both mirrors do a blast monitoring throughout the rest of the rear and Chevy Colorado away so the seats in the Colorado um pretty pretty comfortable Center part's a little bit firmer it's kind of like a Chevy thing they always seem to have firmer seats but in terms of the steering it's electric it's it's light really good torque out of this engine this engine feels pretty [Music] monstrous I will say that suspension damping is pretty solid too doesn't seem like you have to I mean you have to get into it a little bit for the torque to feel like it's really coming on but it's not bad it's not bad at all it's a smooth drive yeah it has that kind of like modern driving feel that you get in a lot of these pickup trucks now oh my gosh it's you you feel the torque um this doesn't necessarily have like way more it's a 310 horsepower it's that's that's high for the midsize pickup truck segment but it's not like way more than other trucks but the the thing you do feel in this is the torque 430 lb feet it's no joke so yeah the Colorado it drives well um I think it's got solid equipment it's a nice drive a couple things I don't like the whole light situation with the lights in the screen and then I this this engine you know it's been out for a little bit but you know I do have some I guess reliability concerns with this powertrain right I I just don't it's it's not it's not proven I guess it's been up for a little bit but not not long enough I suppose so that's the only thing with the Colorado that's it's a little bit little bit uh of a worry but yeah with that being said overall it's it's solid midsize pickup truck and it drives well and it's a it's a torque monster it is a torque monster well let's talk about visibility here in the Tacoma over the hood both the mirrors do a BL Bing and the rest of the rear let us set off in the 2024 Toyota Tacoma with their new turbocharged engine it's very interesting setup it's like Toyota kind of copied Ford kind of and what I mean by that is Ford has a 23 this is a 24 now Ford has a 10 speed this is an eight speed so a little bit different there but then this has 278 horsepower the Ford has 270 this has 317 pbet torque the Ford has 310 it's like they were just like okay we're going to do the same thing that Ford does but have a slightly bigger engine you know with displacement and then have slightly more power and I'm wondering if they did that because Ford's 23 is you know has a turbocharged engine in Aid size pickup truck has been shown to be pretty dang reliable overall so that that I I am curious on that but we'll get our acceleration here with the Tacoma nice grun it's pretty quick now this feels like it develops the torque uh pretty early on in the RPM range it just has it's got punch right off the bat it's you know even though it's a four-cylinder it's it's a beefy 4cylinder um like for example the Chevy Colorado has got 430 lb Fe torque quite a bit more than this but this somehow doesn't feel too out of place next to that powertrain with torque just because it develop it develops it at such a low RPM range and so yeah that's the new Tacoma the turbocharged Tacoma it's it's an interesting drive and then by the way the coil suspension this truck stays more planted but I wouldn't necessarily say that it's any more comfortable than any of the other midsize pickup trucks it just kind of has a more planted feel on the ground so yeah that's the [Music] Tacoma well let's talk about visibility here in the ranger over the hood both of the mirrors still blind spawning th rest the rear and well this is the finale for the fourway truck comparison Ranger Tacoma Frontier in Colorado I'm going to do a little bit of a different driving route here with the or most likely little bit of different driving around with a ranger to cap things off I have driven all four trucks extensively today just to get the trucks to that parking lot was it it was it was some work I think it took me like an hour and a half just to get the thumbnail set up because of getting all the trucks in the same place and all of that so kind of a funny situation but driving all of them here's what I'll say first off quickly about the ranger love the 23 definitely not the it's it's a proven powertrain but it's not the best feeling when it comes to driving it's not bad the good thing about the midsize pickup truck market right now is this is the best it's ever been from a Powertrain perspective there there's not a single midsize pickup truck that feels slow and just 4 years ago you couldn't say that cuz you know the previous gen Tacoma was garbage when it came to acceleration uh the Colorado wasn't bad but it wasn't great and so yeah great power trains all across the board when it comes to acceleration midsize pickup trucks no longer feel slow they feel quick all of them feel quick ride comfort's great seat comfort's great so I just kind of want to with the ranger talk about my rankings with the trucks so powertrain rankings acceleration Chevy's probably the best it's got the most torque and it feels feels very powerful but I love the frontier I love that V6 with how it uh naturally ASP for it just feels so responsive so I would say and this excludes reliability so I'll do two different ratings one with reliability in mind and then one without so including reliability Chevy Nissan Toyota and then four in last including reliability Nissan Ford Toyota Chevy and the reason I put TOA down below Ford even though the Toy's power train feels like it develops a little bit more torque on the low end feels a little better than the 23 here Tois powertrain isn't proven like Fords this 23 is proven to be reliable we don't know if the 24 is going to be reliable so there is that and then as for the rest of the truck Ford has the best value in this segment objectively this is the least expensive truck has just as much equipment as all the other trucks so Ford wins when it comes to value and then when it comes to drivability just how comfortable the vehicles are to drive Ford has the most comfortable seats twit is comfortable Nissan's comfortable Chevy's the least comfortable Ford has the most space there in the passenger area and then capability Ford and Chevy have the most payload Toyota has the third lowest and the Nissan has the lowest and then towing capacity Ford and Chevy are the highest so Ford wins when it comes to just raw capability it's it's right there um Chevy's Chevy's right there too so Ford and Chevy I guess we'll say win on that front so when you put it all together capability plus engine plus reliability Plus pricing I I think the rankings go as such Ford's number one Nissan is number two Chevy's number three Toy's number four crazy right the Tacoma's been the bestselling midsize pickup truck so you'd assume it's the best but toy has increased their prices so much and with the high prices paired with the uncertain reliability of that new powertrain it's it's kind of a it's kind of a crazy world so let me know which one you would pick out of all the midsize pickup trucks which one you think is the best and I do want to mention this is the closest I think that the midsize pickup trucks have ever been when it comes to just how good they are like you this is a midsize pickup truck Market where no matter what you get it's going to be good so that's that's the best like this is this is like the I think this is probably end up being known as the peak of midsize pickup trucks like this is the best time but anyways let me know
