[Music] oh hey everyone we're the master brothers and this is our review of the 2021 tesla model 3 long range refresh so we're going to be breaking down the car using our master rating which is m for money a for aesthetic s for sense t for technology e for expectations and r for our final rating so let's get into it so in the uk the model 3 long range is 47 000 pounds and in america it's also 47 000 and with our add-ons of the gray paint exterior that is one thousand dollars and the white interior is also one thousand dollars so as we expect it it's about forty nine thousand pounds or forty nine thousand dollars it's the same number value in the uk and the us i think that's pretty decent value it is still an expensive car yeah but we're not actually paying that amount for the car so i work for a pretty big company with a car scheme that works by salary sacrifice so the sacrifice that i make actually saves me on income tax deductions which basically means that the price i pay is quite a bit lower than what one would normally pay and that price includes insurance road tax maintenance servicing literally everything so for us this car is really great value for money and also the running costs on an electric car are really low so it's currently costing us about one to one and a half pence per mile that we drive and that's because of the cost of electricity in the uk but with our petrol car the hyundai i-20 it's costing about four to five pence per mile which is so we're literally saving like 80 on the running costs for the fuel our energy providers octopus energy who provide 100 renewable energy and are able to provide variable tariffs which make charging your electric car cheaper at night so we're on the agile tariff which changes every half an hour so actually last night our electricity price went negative which meant that we got paid to use electricity the go terra is fixed between 12 30 am and 4 30 am at about 5 pence per kilowatt hour and that is just a good kind of less risky way to charge your car at night now if these sound interesting to you check out the link in our description for 50 pounds off your bill now we have an ome charger at home which is the only charging system that integrates with the agile turf and we'll be doing a full video about the different charging stations you can get in the uk so make sure you subscribe and hit the notification bell so you know when that one comes out omi estimates that we save around four to five pounds every night and that's sometimes more sometimes less but it's really it's a really good way to see how much energy we're using and how much how much money we're saving compared to using a petrol car compared to using the standard electricity tariff and it also knows when the agile tariff is going to be at its cheapest so it will only charge the car when it'll get you to your full charge based on what you've set it to and it'll do it at the cheapest rate possible for money i'm going to give the mortar 3 a rating of 8 out of 10 and i also gave it an 8 out of 10. i think it's really good value for money but it's still not a super cheap electric car it is still kind of expensive we're just really fortunate to be in the position of having that salary sacrifice option for aesthetic the model 3 is a pretty good looking car it's not super flashy but it's just it's clean it's nice i don't think it will upset anybody it's just a it's just a classic clean looking car in the refresh they've changed the chrome trim to black and we both think it looks so much better especially with the aero wheels they've actually changed the design with that as well and i think they both complement each other so well definitely yeah the aero wheels are a lot more flat less kind of curved and angled and i think they look a lot better than the previous generation the wheels underneath are also exactly the same so if you didn't want to take them off you could do that too yeah they still look great i absolutely love the white interior it is super white and therefore you have to keep it really clean but it's pretty good apparently cleaning up dirt is not a fuss just some warm water or even some light soap and it should clean it up i think personally if i were to get the car again i think i would get the black interior really but but that's just me the white is nice but i think it it might get old so i think i would probably go with the black interior i feel like i feel like the black is gonna get old even quicker maybe but it's just classic you know yeah in the center console they've gotten rid of the piano black which was fingerprint city it looked awful most of the time a lot of people were just wrapping them anyways but now they've done it in a satin finish with metal trim around it and a sort of metal handle on the door the little center console bin and i think it looks really clean a lot classier the panoramic roof is also really cool if you're kind of driving through a wooded area you can see the trees over you or if you're in central london like we were the other week just driving through to see the christmas lights you can see sort of piccadilly circus is really cool yeah just a different experience to to what you'd normally get in a regular car i mean yeah regular cars have it but not as panoramic as this one that is true so for the aesthetic i gave it a score of 8 out of 10. and i gave the aesthetic a score of 8 out of 10 as well i think we both think it looks amazing but i think the minimalism is taken a bit too far and it actually is detrimental to the practicality of the car which brings us to sense you're so reliant on that touchscreen even in terms of air conditioning so you have to control the vents through that touchscreen heated seats but i think the real issue is with driving so i really wish they put up a heads up display even to show the speed because it would just be so much more practical than having to look at the touchscreen and then with navigation there's still the radar on the right side so then you have to take your eyes quite far off the road in order to see your navigation which i find very distracting and the touchscreen in general is quite distracting for me i haven't found it too distracting but i think if millions found it distracting i think other people might as well so it's worth thinking about so the car is super easy to drive and it's a little bit too easy to go fast in you're kind of always having to keep an eye on your speed to make sure you're not going over the speed limit the range is also really good you get at least 300 miles in the real world and probably more in slightly warmer weather the heat pump with the refresh actually really helps with efficiency apparently it's i think twice as efficient in heating up the batteries which is great especially in colder climates and having the supercharging network really just helps reduce range anxiety you always know that you're within distance of a supercharger or your car will root you through one if you're doing a really long journey so it's really not an issue yeah it's really good something new with the refresh is the double glazing in the front windows now it's only in the front two windows not in the back so you can definitely hear the road noise in the back but in the front it's not too bad another thing that's new with the refresh is they've fixed this problem in the boot where water used to just pour in whenever it rained so they've actually added little holes for the water to flow through so we've actually tested it and water does not flow into the boot which is great yeah shouldn't have that problem in the first place but glad they fixed it now the visibility out of the back from the rear mirror is a bit poor because the boot kind of rises really high at an angle so if there's a car somewhat close behind you you can't really see the front of it and where the front of it ends but the cameras work really well so it's not too much of an issue and you can also have the cameras on while you're driving at speed there's plenty of storage space inside the car the door bins are pretty big and the center console has two separate storage spaces that can both fit quite a lot in there there's decent room in the back of the car there's plenty of head space and knee room but the floor does rise quite high because of the battery pack so if you're kind of taller like me your legs might ride quite high which can make it uncomfortable on a long journey and make your lower back and bum quite sore even for me i'm not i'm not tall at all and i still my knees still come up is the floor is quite high so it's not it's not great in the back it would definitely be tough on long journeys there's also quite a bit of room in the boot how many liters is it 425 liters total so in the back and in the front the boot and the fruit the trunk and the front it's pretty good the boot is it's long and narrow so there's not you can't really fit tall items in there but you can get a lot of stuff in there so it's it's kind of practical and not practical like shopping will be perfectly fine but fitting in a lot of luggage that might be quite tall that will be a lot more difficult and human trafficking is not recommended because i can't open the boot from the inside there's also e-call which means if you're involved in a severe accident the car will automatically call emergency services for you and there's also tesla roadside assistance so if you have to stop the car for any reason flat tire you run out of charge you can uh just hit the sos button and get in touch with the tesla support which is available 24 7. for cents i gave it a 9 out of 10 because i think it's a pretty sensible car to get fair enough i gave it an 8 out of 10. my agreement is quite sensible but the minimalism for me is taking a bit too far i think i think all of my annoyances will be cured with a heads up display that would be really cool to have come on tesla do it technology now this is where the model 3 shines and absolutely destroys any of its competitors they're just leaps and bounds ahead so just to kick that off they've got valet mode which is when you give your car to a valet and you don't want them to drive it like crazy so basically it reduces the acceleration to just 25 of what it normally would be they still have access to the media controls but they don't have access to the entertainment features so they can't sit in your parked car and watch netflix or youtube or anything they don't have access to the toy box you can create up to 10 profiles which will save your seating position wheel position mirror position driving preferences so acceleration uh regeneration mode now there's also three different regeneration modes so you've got creep roll and hold now hold is what i use it's the maximum regeneration and it's one pedal driving so it'll bring you to a complete stop creep is like an automatic car if you lift your foot off the brake it'll move the car forwards and roll doesn't move the car forwards if you lift your foot off the brake from a stand still it'll stay in hold because it applies the brake automatically but at low speeds if you've been moving it'll just continue rolling so you can control the mirrors from the screen you can have them automatically fold but the dimming is not configurable so at night the mirrors will automatically dim and adjust their level of dimming based on what the car thinks it should be and sometimes that works really well but sometimes it's really annoying so sometimes the mirrors will be really dark and i'll be backing into the driveway and i literally won't be able to see anything out of the mirrors because it's just it's so dark yeah and there's there's no light coming from behind me but that being said the cameras do work quite well and you can use them for the side so you can basically from the mirror view yeah and then the rear camera so they do they do work quite well so it's not a huge issue but i would like to be able to configure the mirrors to dim to an amount that i would like traffic aware cruise control is an adaptive cruise control system it helps you keep a distance from the car in front of you and you can adjust that distance to one two three car lengths and it'll adjust your speed based on how far away you are from the car in front it also won't let you undertake a car so if there's a car in the middle lane and you're in the left lane it'll slow you down so they don't undertake the car that's sitting in the middle lane and auto steer is basically the lane key but more advanced so it keeps you in your lane and it steers for you so if you've got a big turn coming it's better than lane keep assist because it'll actually turn the wheel for you properly yeah you do have to keep pressure applied to the wheel though otherwise you'll get this notification on screen and it'll eventually shut off saying you need to start driving take control of the car now auto steer without full self driving does not change lanes for you if you put the indicator on it will cancel auto steer and you'll have to change the lanes yourself so a bit annoying when we found that out we kind of were hoping that it would have the lane lane change assist but it's not a feature without full self driving there's also loads of other driving safety features so lane keep assist you can set it to off a warning or to actively keep you in your lane or avoid you drifting into another lane and that just basically does what it says on the tin but you don't need to have your cruise control or your auto steer on that will work when you're driving between 40 and 90 miles an hour there's also forward collision warning so if you're driving faster than a car in front of you and it thinks you're going to crash into them it will give you a flash and a warning on the screen i've set that to late because otherwise i think it'll go off a bit too frequently and sometimes when it really doesn't need to yeah early is definitely too early especially driving around in london yeah it it's a bit it'll get a bit crazy it goes off a lot there's also a setting called obstacle aware acceleration so if there's an obstacle in front of you it'll limit the amount that you can accelerate and it can even apply the brakes as well if it thinks you're going to crash into it but that only works at low speeds the automatic wipers do not work perfectly it waits quite a while into the rain before it actually activates and then changing its speed is pretty lagged so it's not it's not great we've had a couple of problems especially when we're traveling around 60 miles per hour or faster the wipers make quite a bit of noise which we've had to report to tesla yeah it's like a clicking noise and we'll play that now so you can hear it there's also a calendar app built in with the car which syncs with your phone calendar and you can activate that through the app on your phone and basically what that'll do is it'll enable you to navigate to your next destination in your calendar or you can dial into a phone call if you've got a meeting on your calendar that you can you've got a phone number for the front seats are 12-way adjustable and both the front and the rear seats are heated and they're they work pretty well heat up very quickly and get quite hot so we only keep it on the lowest setting the seats are pretty much like sofa cushions i never really felt like that in any other car really soft and plushy here yeah and also the front seats have lumbar support which is nice the climate controls can only be adjusted via the main screen which can be a bit annoying but there is a lot of adjustability and sort of functionality within that you can also change what the car does when you put it in park or if you leave or stay in the car so you can set it to turn the climate off when you leave leave it on dog mode which you can leave a dog in the car and it'll keep it nice and comfy in there and put a message on the screen as well and there's also camp mode so if you want to stay in the car and leave the climate on it'll kind of leave only a few settings on but it won't turn on the alarm or sentry mode because you're saying that you're still in the car the front center console now has a fast wireless charger built in which is pretty great we were going to install it ourselves but it looks really nice the way that they built it in feels very premium has a nice uh satin no felt what's it suede kind of suede finish suede finish on there which is very nice there's also usbc chargers in the back and the front the front ones are a bit hard to find they're in the the front center console bit in the back and it can also be frustrating to have usb-c if you don't really have any usb-c cables you've only got usb-a so we have an anker usb-a to usb-c adapter so you can just plug your usb a cable in there and just plug it into the usb-c works pretty well if you're interested just check out the link in our description in terms of security the tesla has sentry mode which will monitor the area and make sure that if somebody comes close to your car they'll be deterred so there's the standby state where it'll just monitor your area there's the alert state where somebody gets too close to the car something will come up on the screen and the lights will flash and let you know that the car is in sentry mode and you're being recorded if that doesn't deter whoever is bothering your car the outside car alarms will go off and on the inside the speakers will start playing loud rock music full blast when a sentry mode event is triggered it will save the most recent 10 minutes of footage and then when you next enter the car you'll have a little notification saying uh x amount of sentry mode events have occurred and then you'll be able to watch them back to see what happened we've had quite a few issues with the built-in memory stick that tesla have provided sometimes it'll work but then we'll get in the car a few a few days later and you won't be able to view the footage you'll have to go in and click format so that's something that i need to work on a fix for it does come with the dash cam feature which is a lot easier than installing your own dash cam and in order to view the footage you just click the dash cam icon and then click launch viewer to view all of your previously saved footage yeah you can also set it to save your footage on honk so that'll save the 10 most recent minutes of footage which is super useful if something stupid happens like this jesus there are cameras everywhere on this car one in the front one on the left and the right one in the cabin and one in the rear the cabin one isn't actually active right now but tesla has included it in their cars in case they want to activate them in a software update for some security features but it is a bit creepy it is a bit weird because it's so small it's so hard to notice i only found out when i read the manual yeah i think i might just cover it because it is a bit weird there's also a walk away door lock and you do have to walk kind of far in order for it to lock but i think it's more on time thing versus the distance we've also tested it so if our phone keys are in the house and we try and open the door without our phone on us you can't unlock it so it is it is pretty safe you do have to be close to the car for it to actually unlock again so speaking of the app there's so many things you can do with it you can control the climate and you can start the climate when you're about to set off on a long journey and that'll also pre-condition the battery and you can see the little battery icon on the top of the screen and basically what that means is that the the battery is going to be optimized for driving so when you leave the car overnight the battery will get cold but then when you start the climate the heat pump and the climate will help warm up the battery so it's primed and ready for you to drive what he said can't help it mate there's also other various controls like honking the car flashing the lights so if you happen to lose in the car park there's even location on it yeah so you can actually track the location so you should never lose it in a car park and if someone's driving you can see the speed that they're driving at and where they're driving and you can also control the boot so you can open the fruit or the frunk and you can open and close the boot or the trunk because it's now a power boot which is a new feature for the refresh yeah should have been there before but i'm glad they have it now the long range and the performance models get a 14 speaker sound system which is quite good you can listen to radio tune in spotify usb bluetooth so there's plenty of different options out there for you and that's an upgrade from the standard speaker system in the standard range plus another amazing thing about tesla's is that you're frequently getting updates so the car is always improving getting new features which no other car manufacturer provides yeah i think since we've gotten the car we've had about three or four software updates and it's like just been two and a half weeks so pretty crazy really good and the thing is it's not always just software updates like with the touchscreen sometimes it's power upgrades range and stuff where they're just tweaking their actual mechanical software not mechanical but the cars the electronics controls yeah the electric something they're changing something and it makes the car perform even better there is homelink which allows you to connect to up to three radio frequency control devices like gates lights garage doors but we have not had the chance to use it so we don't know how well it works now the entertainment is where the tesla really steps ahead of its competitors in the theater you've got netflix youtube twitch and tesla tutorials they are slow to load but just having them available in the car if you're parked it plays the sound through the speakers and you can watch like netflix you can watch top gear or i mean so many different shows so yeah we've been using it quite a bit especially when we're waiting it's it's quite useful i don't know whether it's just because we're it's just so new but it also feels practical you do need your own netflix account to use it obviously tesla doesn't provide the netflix subscription for you to use these features you need premium connectivity which comes free for the first year on the long range and the performance but after that it's 10 pounds a month what's connectivity connectivity connected connectivity there's also loads of games in the arcade and those actually do include sort of arcade retro games and there's some newer ones like the tesla beach buggy bash racing whatever which is which is basically like a tesla themed mario kart and you actually drive around in your own little tesla so ours was a great model three and obviously i won yeah you had it on easy though didn't you shut up there's also a web browser which you can use to surf the web and that works while you're driving as well so say if you and your date were going out for dinner you could check out the menu from the screen of your tesla so to the toy box this has got all of your weird and wonderful tesla quarks that are pretty useless for a good fun to play around with you've got santa mode which you can activate through the toy box or by saying ho ho ho or ho ho not funny gives you a little bit of christmas cheer turns your car into a sleigh and play some nice christmas music there's also rainbow road which if you do four times down on the drive lever which puts you into autosteer it'll basically turn your radar into a rainbow road and it'll play some funky music you've got sketchpad where you can make some nice little drawings there you can even send them off to tessa and they'll give you some feedback on your work i find it kind of hard to use but i'm not much of an artist anyways then there's also mars mode so you can hold the t down on the screen and then enter mars for the access code or you can just do it directly from the screen but it'll basically just turn your satellite navigation into a map of mars the map becomes pretty useless but otherwise it's yeah i mean that just becomes pretty easy then we've got romance mode it's a bit silly it just puts a crackling fire on the screen and blows out warm air not really something you should be doing with your sibling but maybe it'd be nice if you were kind of out sat in a park uh in the car on a hill looking out of view there's a mission testing mode which pretty much makes your car into a whoopee cushion you can select which seat you want to trigger you can even make it trigger on when you turn on the indicator tracks basically turns your car into a personal music studio they've got loads of different kits and you can basically just make a song on a loop have a listen to what i made and see what you think [Music] it's pretty good if you're having any issues with your car trigger the voice command and say something on the lines of report and then whatever is going wrong what the system will do is take a snapshot of everything that is happening and it will send that over to tesla so then they can improve on that so for technology we both gave it a score of 9 out of 10. the technology is amazing and it's far better than any other car i think this might be with our expectations i think we were expecting everything to work super seamlessly and have no issues at all but we've had some small issues here and there with like voice commands not working dash cam footage not saving and yeah just small issues which i think we expected that for the more solid parts of the tesla like door frames not being aligned and crazy stuff like that but yeah there are some software quirks which are slightly annoying that brings us on to our expectations now milan i think you were expecting the car to be harder to drive definitely i was so shocked that i was able to drive it pretty quickly it was quite easy to get a hold of the steering wheel is pretty nice um very easy to maneuver when i drive it i find that the suspension is a little bit too soft for my liking you can really feel that it's a heavy car it does a decent job of hiding it but if the suspension was a bit stiffer then you would feel a lot more comfortable i think because otherwise it really rocks you when you accelerate quickly yeah i think you'd feel a bit more confident and more planted in the road the turning circle is good but it also could be a little bit tighter yeah especially in london yeah definitely i think we're used to more of a city car turning circle so for expectations we both gave it a score of 8 out of 10 because it definitely does a really good job but i think it could just be a little bit better but maybe those issues would be solved if we got the performance version yeah and i think tesla are so new and manufacturing cars so it can be expected that each these issues would arise so overall i gave the tesla model 3 long range a score of 43 out of 50. and i gave it a score 41 out of 50. so that gives us an overall master rating of 84 out of 100 which is pretty good yeah i think there's only just small issues here and there that are a bit annoying but it's still an amazing car we absolutely love it we've driven it what like 700 miles in the first two weeks yeah yeah we've done a lot of driving in it yeah so anyways guys if you enjoyed this video make sure you
