[Music] you [Music] what's up motocross action Josh Moseman here and behind me we have the 2020 KTM 125 SX and the 2020 Yamaha y0 n t5 so why would we put these bikes head-to-head like we are today well we get a lot of questions online asking what's the best bike for vet riders what's the best bike for kids coming up out of the amateur ranks and what's the best bike just to have the most fun on at your local track well today we're here to answer those questions and put putting these two bikes head-to-head so stay tuned the rest of this video to see our impressions on these bikes and why we like the Yamaha and also why we like the ki TM they've become the go-to bike of riders who just want to have fun and as of late there are more to circle in the races for bikes like the yz125 and the 125sx 250sx the 2020 MxA 125 unchewed out was born the MxA Anshu de is designed to provide you with all the information you need for about these two bikes [Music] so what do they cost without tact on shipping charges and the ridiculous setup fees the 2020 Yamaha yz250 $9.00 that's $100 more than the 2019 yz125 the retail price of the 2020 KTM 125 SX up $100 from it's 2019 price of seven thousand one hundred ninety nine dollars to the price of seven thousand two hundred ninety nine dollars the price differential between the yz125 and the 125sx in at seven hundred dollars if price is an issue the 2020 Yamaha y 0 95 is a bargain and then extra $700 can go a long way towards buying fuel pre-mixed oil tires and repairing crash damage but and this is a big but yz125 you'll be better off buying the KTM 125sx in the first place so what do they really weigh without fuel in the gas tank the 2020 yz125 yz250 5sx hits the scales at 190 three and a half pounds please note that the KTM 125 sx7 and a half pounds lighter than the yz125 yz250 des cross bike made in 2020 so how do they run in the dyno looking at these two bikes overlaid on a dyno curve the Yamaha makes more horsepower from 5,000 rpm up to 7800 rpm which is as low as a 125 t-shirt can actually run from seven thousand nine hundred rpm until both the yz125 and the KTM 125sx peak at 11,500 rpm the KTM 125 SX beats the yz1 25 2005 hundred RPM rev range at peak the KTM produces 37.5 horsepower while the yz125 yz250 torque to the yz125 to nine but at or what isn't always obvious is the yz125 makes more torque below 8,000 rpm and the KTM 125 SX a rpm [Music] [Music] so which one of these is faster on the track you don't need to be Sherlock Holmes to unravel the mystery of this question every mx8 test rider could tell right away that the key TM was incredibly fast in a meet of the power band they were able to clear big table tops on the KTM that the yz125 the off the top of among start straights the KTM blue by the yz125 125 T struck on the track it's orange is the 2020 yz125 engine a dog know it's far from it while the KTM 125sx is ultra-fast from 8,000 rpm on up the yz125 carbon was much more usable on the exit of corners where the key team would require considerable clutch work to get it up on the pipe the yz125 the KTM hyperkinetic power band was mistake-prone at low rpm the yz125 was mistake-free and even if you did ham-fisted corner it would jump right back onto the pipe almost instantaneously not so with the KTM 125sx which engine was more fun to ride beyond a shadow of a doubt every test rider said that the yz125 was easier to ride less mistake-prone and more fun because it opened up more line options thanks to its low to mid power delivery so which bike has the best suspension the kiaba sss forks worked best for the target audience of 125 t-shirt which Yamaha feels is teenagers in the 130 to 150 pound range and it was workable with compression and rebound adjustments by up and down the weight range all of our heavier test drives preferred the 48 millimetre WP exact ports as they could adjust the air pressure to their needs as far as the shocks went the test riders felt that both the Kayaba and WP shocks were equal and overall performance but again it was weight dependant which bike handles best we marveled at the 14-year old chassis of the yz125 still handles like a contemporary machine it still has a few quirks left over from its 2005 birthright but it's a workman like chassis that corners well is stable at speed and feels balanced although there's nothing to brag about either even with its advanced age it is better the many of the frame - released in the 2020 model it is not however better than the 2020 KTM 125sx Jesse KTMs chromoly steel frame has more resilience responds better with an organic feel turns in nice and loves to rail through ruts there is no chattery feedback from the front end when leaned over however most of the key themes prowess comes from the forefront when it is pushed hard by the rider the Yamaha chassis has proven to be bulletproof not objectionably rigid and a good fit for a wide range of conditions [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] so what do we really think if you're riding 125s for fun and pleasure riding yz125 it offers enough bang for the buck to satisfy anyone looking to have fun on one of the greatest motocross machines ever made but if you're racing 1:25 to improve your skills win races and not give up an iota of performance to the competition Racing KTM 125sx it is a better race bike than than yz125 and any attempt to make the yz125 the 125 SX will end up costing more money than that $700 price difference [Music] for the full test on the yz125 and KTM 125 s excuse you might imagine and for more news reviews and bike tests check out our website motocross action mag comm and to stay up to date with our latest motocross action videos click that subscribe button here on YouTube
