as they call it though I think the most super thing about this next few days is Super GT of course and it is looking like it's gonna be quite an interesting race the grid is a little bit mixed up with a few different cars in a few different places a few different drivers as well the laser at Fuji always throws a curveball latter's as you say on the lower slopes of Mount Fuji it's not a given that the the weather's going to be good and a slightly longer duration for today's race I'm as well looking at 500 kilometres so almost three hours but you know the safety cars always coming to play with Super GT and the weather we're just waiting for a weather update from the circuit at the moment I'm hopeful I'll place that on Twitter quite soon but yesterday the weather was absolutely abysmal in the free practice had to be delayed due to that fuji fog that rolled in and you couldn't see anything so everyone's sitting around in the fog not really moving anywhere yeah I got a lovely got Santa lovely folks who have the wonderful slopes of Mount Fuji and all it was was just a screen of fog and he did get a fantastic view of Fuji Speedway will have some BTS in minutes ever look around the track at the moment and my waiver updates still aren't coming through from Japan at the moment I just have I don't even have pictures of food which I normally have at this point of the day very disappointing yeah so clearly a little bit of slow motion at fuji speedway there's a lot of controversy at the last race if you remember yeah yeah ronique in tireli made what i thought was a fantastic start not only a fantastic start but the first sort of sector of the opening lap I thought was terrific and he received a nominal tee for a jump start but looking at the the onboard footage you could argue that he was perhaps a little bit far back from the car in front of him but he was only forced to do so because he was staying behind the car that was in seventh on the grid but that's the rules let's have a look we can have a look at that and we can see what everybody else thinks about well talk us real I mean you'd be better placed in here we go have a look at the rolling stock so we're coming final corner and the black box on me white overpass overhead is the lights they've read at the moment Green now Ronnie states behind the car on his right and it doesn't overtake there's the start line side I think that's good and it's it's a little messy because the the Honda NSX on the front row makes a full stop and look at this from kids running around the outside there and the great suddenly me too [Music] absolutely nothing bad somewhere you know it really ruins the the Nissan chance is in in the first round and I don't know I don't think that penalty was fair I still don't know what now that video quite a few times and you can watch the full race on a boards I forget where that link is actually but if you hit like and subscribe on this mo TV or someone will post it up in the chat at the moment there is a link to the full race from that car number 23 Motel Alltech GTR gt500 all from the start from lights to flag complete race and it's fantastic to watch but it wasn't really when that onboard footage appeared I was like oh I thought it was gonna give us clarification on why he received to jumpstart nice sort of watched it for the first time thought no and then I I I watched it thinking our right maybe a couple of rows jumped the start and he was just the one that caught the eye of the race director for making such a spectacular start but no they don't go to lights go green I can't say it myself yeah III don't think that however the decision was made and when a decision is made like I I know drivers for example that have been penalized for overtaking under a yellow flag and they've taken the race director their onboard footage and it can you show me he has no I have an observers report you overtook under a yellow flag and you can't see it on the video you can't see it from the driver's seat you can't see it from the onboard footage so yeah a difficult one and yeah that did spoil the the the chances of the Nissan that the at the opening round well one thing we can ever look at what's well looking at Okayama having putting that into the past to some degree let's have a look at what's happened in the last couple of days of BG speed where here we are this is qualifying that took place yesterday and this severe Matsuda and when he came to release on Xmas cross that's the full-scale car Chiho they're signing and there's the gain t in that new GTR there's a bloke from Wales leading to the cool pikmin aroun the coast oh that's a nice fishing thing Oh fish heads fish heads fish heads there you go refueling went on with plan tires they have proved to be very strong in qualifying here we just replay the niche lunch of GTR gt500 clearly a bit more potent through the council it could never known that we smile at shorter car and there you go some these sponsors appearing across what you're going to see in some of the classes running smiling looking a bit good as well there's to shout crowd and now we've met those guys and this my supporters club you can see that L film is my TV they are wonderful people and eventually after people did smarty shops in wing Harris the castle underwear the gt300 qualifying and that has been as you can see on the screen it largely dominated by the Subaru BRZ some of the other mother chassis comes the lotus extract Fuji Speedway but also the gain of tonight's GTR gt3 hundreds of us the new specification Nissan GTR gt3 looking very very potent around here long straight as well yeah a real mix of tight corners and long straight so difficult to get a balance between the mother chassis smaller gt3 hundreds and the FIA TT threes but here we've got the GT 500s going out for their qualifying session just looking of gt500 bear and it is it was clear it was gonna be good for the Nissan GTR GT was bottoming out there through those huge down first and I see you through there yeah so even just a bit of smoke backing onto the ground lest geocoding for his run he's very quick as well as gamers Michelin tires really working in and not the less than ideal conditions the Fuji Speedway the fall came really that sort of started a little bit late but it's toilet time track it is yeah the the preseason test was a dominated by the Lexus we see Alexis on pole position today through the obstacles to safety the final sector book you've just cut back so yeah it's a it's a wonderful circuit it's going to be a great race it's it's certainly going to be tight at the front and we're going to see actually in both classes there's that fork in the background on stretching which is always quite an interesting thing to see now talking about that penalty in Akiyama because that is going to be something that cutting that goes and goes is that ironic in Torelli did accept the penalty on through after being showing the video because apparently he'd overtaken the 19 car before the line but I saw cars in front overtaking VA as well so I just think yeah I'm not having that penalty frankly and it ruined the race didn't it yeah yeah it really did so yeah very disappointing hopefully we get a nice clean start in both classes today long long front straight at the Fuji Motor Speedway so it will be it will be a battle royale down into that tight right-hander at turn one and then that long that just the scraps because Fuji Speedway it's turned to where you get a real turn one is great overtaking opportunity but once I get enough to turn to and into those Wiggly bits in the middle which I think you've got the names of yeah so the the first Wiggly bit is a delicious sparkling Brown sugary beverage which I'm not sure I should mention that rhymes with whoa Corolla the turn for the 100 are and remember the the are in Japanese corners is just the radius in meters so 100 R is a huge corner you can take various positions through there it's not just like there's a single racing line zero why it is absolutely in super smooth and super grippy in places offline as well so yeah the first sector big sweeps right left a long long right then into the first hairpin at turn six then going downhill towards the really tight section at the bottom of a circuit turn 10 11 12 and then just finish finishing off with the double hairpin at Nets 13 14 15 and it's very it's very did that that final corner if after that long sweep down the bottom as you go into Donald gone the uphill yeah going to the uphill section it's really easy to lose a lot there isn't it oh and it's so hot it yeah it's so hard to gain it back because the last sector of the lap is so technical it's easy to lose it on the way down there but you just can't gain it back you've we saw last year as well any kind of off-track excursion down there is very very costly because then you're running on to the front straight with cold tires wet tires whatever they might be you know it's going to be damp and slippery off line and yeah you're going to be how long is that start/finish straight because it's huge because you're gonna lose a huge amount of time down there yeah look it's almost a mile and what's that him in European well the actual length is one thousand four hundred and seventy five meters there really is nothing to do in corner well there's a well what's a mile is it 1609 I don't know title segment I think a mile are obsolete meshes morning North America if you're listening speaking of which corn was mentioned cool many miles quick Cornwall Nissan I know tuned in Miss and ela are somewhere in the state's massive fans have missed my TV and so just gonna give a shout out to them so if of food which I always do all this food yeah super GT food that the racetrack is absolutely fantastic if you like various forms of cooked meat which is always very good form but I still haven't got I've got starting drivers but haven't got pictures of food and Fuji speedo is one of my favourite eating places we should looking at this should we ever we have a look at the last race cause someone said stop talking about food let's have a look at the previous race and more Akiyama we did talk about it a little bit but it this is what actually happened during the race there we are some GTRs and these are just highlights of Akiyama you can watch the race interval of course here on it and is made TV with our talking over it there's the bumblebee car that didn't have a good race giving at the end and we'll talk about that as on the starting grid a little bit more 82 laps of Okayama the first full season race of that English bloke from not far from corner it didn't go well so fit for him but what we discovered was he did the entire race without changing his tires yeah he was so slow yeah very light on his tyres at the at the start and yeah here's the gt300 start the Lamborghini leading there from the the GTR two very different GT FIA gt3 specification cars you know something we haven't had so you normally expect even though it's a near-empty real everything rain yet no Super GT a lot of rain through the season if you haven't watched the season c4 GT before that's the moment we had for the bumblebee GTR than the gt3 very hard hit into the wall after being rear-ended by a Honda NSX we can see that right there that's the you know the Mugen car was did that yeah I remember using the term harpooned and yeah watching that it was yeah a really hard hit into unprotected concrete wall and the driver he's sitting out this race he'll be sitting at another couple but he is getting better and hopefully we'll see him back in Super GT soon well the car is fixed and is out and is running reasonably well but I think they've had a bit of bolting it back together troubles as you may do after you've hastily bought the Bedford together for round two but they are in the race and they will start in the race shortly we will see that at Fuji Speedway and the yeah the bumblebee GTR is back in good condition and fully operational we've bit with a different driver in the line and there are a few different drivers on the grid because this is a 500 kilometer race some of the gt300 teams have adopted a free driver line-up you will see some different names on the grid as well in a gt500 James Rossiter is back that's going to be exciting yeah some of our Toyota superstars driving with an Alexis factory router there on Toyota duty at WAC spa this weekend so great to have James Rossiter back he's progressive as we know so looking forward to seeing him in action well we're gonna go over to Fuji Speedway in a moment because I know we've got the life which of the cars on the starting grid and we'll have a look at that and while we're talking about the starting grid obviously we'll mentioned that James Rossiter is back he will be the the English driver will be behind the wheel of the AU Tom's LC LC 500 correctly raced last year I think it's really good to see him back in Super GT not everybody in GT 500 will necessarily agree with that but he's a great dream Lee exciting driver to watch our track and also extremely quick when he gets on it yeah very quick starting from the second row of the grid it will be terrific to see how he gets on we're into weight handicapping as well this second stage of the season and he's James is sitting on the second row with the lightest car with 12 kilos no no no way low balance on it sorry I was looking at the wrong line there yeah alongside you he sekiguchi well pronounced yes exactly should be a perfect on that the ever big changes in the nut in the number 39 car that won a championship a few years back alongside high key Kovalainen and the renunciation and that is show su boy show su boy mais is in that car taking the place of the auricular driver because he is off on WT duty as well yeah it's yeah quality quantity just because some of the drivers are away they've been replaced by seasoned professionals and yeah really really looking for two down in gt300 the first of the three driver the free driver lineups is the car guy gt3 Honda which is in fit starts the race in 13th position yo camisa Kimura and cazuli no K causally knows a name I haven't encountered before but maybe some paid attention debt that fell down in the gt300 ranking the team Mack the number five car which has the best livery and the best paint shop the painted truck in the paddock in my opinion there are some pictures of that on Twitter already that Sakaguchi Iraqi and Tama naka at the wheel of that Yokohama should car in the number 17 at 21 not at all works out E is Richard Lyons Tomita at being joined by Takara Sheen Jara on the dunlop shot r8 there then in the 19th 19th position in TT 300 the legal frontier a Lamborghini gt3 is driven by Kimi SR to Eugene Motty Jima and to sue but Tsubasa Takahashi in the nice 1319 that are mentioned and the brilliantly but but very quick but surprisingly far down the grid in 2020 first position is too hoppy 86 MC hoppy is a kind of non-alcoholic beer thing which he meets true so true and have a very nice time if you're that way inclined which I am takemitsu Matsui Tsubasa condo and Turkish Takeshi shuya sewer I can never pronounce that team very well I need to read affiliation go with a very famous team in Super GT they are out to say that's he's back on the grid in his own team and a 500 kilometer race will divide up touchwood quite nicely into three stents the race the race should be just under three hours in length so those guys with three drivers per car will just be taking a single stint each the exe AMG gt3 starts 22nd position Misaki Kanda can oh rather he dead - yes sir yes Walker and you you yeah Sakamoto this is the first time I've read some of these names actually later yes sir ochre is an old Formula Ford client of mine he Hillary he drove for John LaBelle's Modena formula for team at the festival and he came through the old BRDC single seater championship and went back to Japan raced in Japanese Formula 3 and as yeah Dunley he was a Carrera Cup champion Carrera Cup Japan champion as well so yeah really good driver had a toe so I've seen him race definitely then in the 2014 rav4 cosima sponsored car Shiina circuit Cena circuit Yamada Shintaro car bata and Shinji Nakano in at that car making it free drivers and the last of the free driver lineups is bumblebee itself which we talked about no this not bumblebee sorry it is mint Zilla that long is Richard Bradley at the yes red at the helm Richard Bradley's got into that with ty you leader and Misaki Tanaka and the production creates clawford point Inklings because we can go lives at fuji speedway and here we go I think we'll be coming in are we gonna go straight to the starting grid oh I hope so it's my paper like I say it's my favorite part I'm a big fan of the podiums myself but here we go get in the podium this time fuji GT 500 kilometers of this fantastic race circuit in Aoyama just a little way south of Tokyo in the mountains Mount Fuji there you can just see the edge of it in the background of the shop this is literally on Mount Fuji and it does look like a glorious day in Japan there is Fuji San an active volcano and here's the starting grid on pole position it's the sensor remote LC 500 touch car starts that car along side the way cost LC v hunter identical cars bit of a steamer at the wheel of that the first of in this sounds of motor or tech GTR is in per position alongside James Rossiter starting at the au Tom's LT 500 that should be exciting on the first lap Mikey Kovalainen behind him in 5th position in the den so sponsored car Hideko Muto starting in sixth position the first surfer NSX GTS craft sports kept immature Masaccio in seventh position alongside you he can Emoto in eighth position in the advant win support at Bernal C 500 there is the keeper Tom's LC 500 reigning champions rear O'Hara Cara and Nick Cassidy start Knight position alongside Naoki Yamamoto and Jenson Button they're not gonna be able to repeat their no tire strategy this time in 10th Bertie baguette is in 11th in the modulo n sx GT and after NSX GT and 12th look there's the cal sonic blue car Yan Martin restarting that car he's got a point to prove so far down in 1314 position is the kahan NSX GT whose speaker brushing teeth in it and JP Oliveira in 15th rounding out the gt500 feels seems smaller this function it yeah only because you know the gt300 are going to be so exact here comes the arter BMW the orange BMW gt3 Shawn walking Shoaib not starting Takagi starts that car the super L said very strong car on the dunlop tires in second position alongside the leone AMG GT camry starts that there is a teeny Miku in a fourth fifth position great start for the for the Lotus they're in fifth as I say sixth position the cynthia mel c % him RC F gt500 cars model up the first if the Toyota Priuses East like did say Prius seventh position cohere RT then the Nissan gain at annex GTR 8th position with hironaka starting that one the D station port of tamil uji uji in 9th position tenth fission is Hoshino starting the game you ever gain a 10x GTR great position for that team right both cars in top ten eleven position the kenwood NSX gt3 in eleventh the money for Lamborghini in it 1213 fifth car guy NSX gt3 talks about that causally know starting that he's a new guy in that car I think the Mexican in 14th that is orange jacket later and race he is from auto backs the sponsor of Super GT it's like a giant Alfred Zorn a firm much better than Eva I believe absolutely fantastic to see that team they've got two cars on the grid and lots of fans in the ground son looks a bit quite there at the moment that suppose everybody's out there at the back buying some food yeah they're expecting a hundred thousand spectators over the race weekend here at Fuji obviously racing on the public holiday they take the they take Star Wars day as a public holiday is now a tank it's called Golden Week I've been to this is my first ever Super GT race was this race got back in 2005 and the pulled GT was racing in that series better absolutely fantastic sunny day everybody in Japan has the week off it's a bit like Christmas and Easter and rolled into one and it's brilliant and it's just a long holiday Golden Week it's a lovely time to be in Japan we should be having a national anthem about now but apparently not so we will stop talking over the national anthem flags waving there as two lot two red lights are on and the police are all ready to set off so maybe they just give the national anthem I don't know what the sake world Drivers Championship is there lots of other motorsport actually going on in at the world of Nissan we've got Formula e we'll talk a bit about that later in the race the the Blancpain Endurance series British GT all sorts even Australian supercars and the World Endurance Championship of course lots of police bikes out there so you're not gonna have a national anthem today don't know what but there you go there go and one of them's in orange to red I enjoy various gherkin split strategy yeah I see if they were a lot of bikers out there today or maybe they just didn't get the email about boys over the weekend remember it's blue jacket Friday nuts think the first two guys this is for police cars as well this is one of the things you see in Super GT FCC for first Super GT race you will always see a police escort for the start of the first formation lap to formation laps here at Fuji Speedway the first one with the policeman the second one and maybe some police women and the second one with the Honda NSX pace car but this formation that I think this is a really cool feature of racing there we by talking about this we we have managed to introduce circuit Safari in quite a lot of series now across the world they did it at fuji speedway for WEC we've seen it Silverstone with a Routemaster bus with British GT that was fantastic to see like the next thing I'd like to see the Northampton police you know do you do it do and lead out at Silverstone or maybe Kent Police at Branson there's a race at Brands Hatch today isn't there so here's a message to if you're if you're in Canada you work for chemical these ghosts at Brands Hatch talk to motorsport vision or SRO or whoever's using that race meeting and I would like to see you know some old police cars or the current police cars leading out the the field on the opening lap of the race because I think there's any letters of complaint no you got anything better to do it's a great great safety message it is and you know it integrates the local police force and look from a racing drivers perspective it gives the guys a chance to get to laps of heat into their tires of course the super GT series no tire warmers so they'll have come out the pits on stone-cold slicks and even though that we're only going really slowly behind the safety car they're accelerating and braking getting heat into the brakes into the wheel that is transposed through into the carcass of the tire and yeah the police will then pull off at the end of this first parade lap they'll be replaced by our safety car or formation vehicle and then we'll have a second lap a little bit quicker before the start I think you know I'm still thinking about police cars in different race series I mean just think about this they like police cruisers at Talladega or like Daytona cyma David Boger International Raceway on Sunday right I want to see some police cruisers going around ahead of Bristol Bristol that'd be fantastic yeah there'll be a budding young I'm not going to get into throwing beer it's very uncouth us yeah hey deal gonzalez Salgado quite rightly remembers in the incredibly rainy Okayama race of 2015 or one of these police motorcyclists fell off and it was probably the most embarrassing moment of that policeman's career maybe he doesn't have a career anymore good that that's a lovely piece of camerawork isn't it that is beautiful but it's such a long straight isn't it one of nearly one and a half kilometers of just straight line drafting overtaking wonderfulness yeah you can you can overtake and be overtaken on the same straight this track was originally built for Nazca it was it was built as an oval wasn't it well they'd but they never finished building it they ran out of money when they got half way around the track see they had a big first banks section which was originally used to racing and listen absolutely air raised in videos of Carl on board videos of cars racing round there in the big group seven here at any rate easy powerful sports cars and of course it was lately it was literally lethal people were killed on that banking yeah you you look at this facility here and it looks like a a wonderful modern two or three year old circuit it was it was built in 1965 some that's even older than me nothing so that part marking from but the they never managed to get the second half of the oval built so I decided to build on that and probably on that the say-so of Stirling possible people they started they built this road course which is heavily reworked for the comes to 2007 or 2006 Japanese grown free yes which was held at this circuit and that softly still the outright lap record around here though the super forum the cars all get quite close as are a number of other categories they it's one of those circuits that has been re-engineered but the re-engineering hasn't really taken much away from the spirit of the track no you can look at the width of the circuit you look at the radius of the corners there's some lovely open corners here is the corner that we were talking about this is turn four into the 100r this never-ending right-hander that then comes round pops over a little crest where the safety car is there then into this left-hand happened they're just coming into now now really taking opportunity sorry sir that's right are we gonna see any start line violations this time to a crisis going around you're gonna see stick to starts you're going to see the gt500 cars is up and form up in a minute into a 2x2 formation Oh quite a few of them symposiums have turned up yet and then the gt300 cars will drop right back and have their own separate start so it's a split screen mode and watch both starts at the same time it can be quite hectic here at Fuji Speedway so now you can see the gt500 is getting ready to form up into that 2x2 fashion Dunsinane style I think it's referred to if you are in 1920s English and the nock herringbone no that's known as the sustain that stack at the end of the race so yeah they'll have covered start procedure in detail in drivers briefing they'll have reviewed the footage from the first round and yeah I think we're going to be looking at a start this time round and hopefully it'll be a clean one with no penalties because I'm really upset the mix of the first racer well coming up 500 kilometers of noise excitement and the finest motor racing action anywhere in the world live here on Nismo TV we're gonna be here throughout a lot uninterrupted there is that stonking long straight will Nismo be victorious we'll find out after 500 kilometers there is Reid now are we gonna get a second yet okay these week and he's gonna gonna stop and have a an organized grid oh wait no [Music] in past the grid board there we go to the two-by-two formation and make sure nobody does anything naughty those guys are brave to be stood there gt3 up turrets coming and the sensor room a car is looking a little bit far ahead that's not a very organized two-by-two DM mardenborough out position there at the back as well the lights of red lights are on though it looks like we're going to get the start thumbs up from the starter and the lights will go out and we will be racing for 500 kilometers the gt300 field is just starting the start/finish straight now it's a very long hold here the revs are going up I can hear them we still got red lights and green now we are racing in but there is the motor cortex I already got it so what at the Honda so he's going to move up to second is he yes very easy kind of a baby that one no drama through there and turn one and that is the motor Lord GTR now challenging before the need position third position a lot of cold tires that's why the cars are darting around so much here is taking free country I'll keep an eye on that and Rob you watch gt500 areas about for the lead right now through that log 100r and yeah the motel or tech car looking every race in there in second position and SUNY because Riley gaps in third position in cheating 300 put a huge gaggle of girls scrapping it out for the lower positions of the top ten Contini Beco still side by side of the Liana mercedes-amg identical in all ways apart from maybe the headlights and insurance package Kinta rally around the outside for the lead coming into turn 13 wow I was a great move there in gt500 Misun leads but back in gt300 there is just a huge pack of cars the Shaun Walkinshaw driven a Tartar BMW leads but that Subarus right on his tail but it looks like a fantastic scrap for the lead him he's got wider professional life well as the way Cos Cob around the outside of the crate winters taking them well if that easy though he's being pushed away president through bone mr. Rubin coming into pity went very well to the inside I was just thinking that's exactly what we spoke about pre-show you if you make a mistake at that final sector you run off line he's got a little bit of dirt on his tires that's really cost him too he's gone from on the leading on the opening Blackmun's gonna lose another place is and the way Coast car on driver on our right I think very tight battle at the top cross it worth doing his normal being working his way through but he's open the door no he's not he slammed it shut and that is pure James Rossiter racing this is why some of the guys through a little bit I'm a beat with James last season but east back and he's gone for he's got it between the tee but he's proven proving himself here if it wasn't for that number 16 Motul sponsored honda it would be whose conspicuous by his absence Roddick in Torelli he's checked out at the front of the field all the lex i battling big sorry one likes as many likes us all alexis battling together behind has really allowed him to just put some clean air between him and the field which is pop you need here at Fuji with that front straight being almost as you said a kilometer and a half long but great start from kids are really really aggressive took they took the position for the race lead friendly outside at this corner that we're looking at now and amazing really the what you're watching now is a battle of two gt3 cars but it's not just FIA gt3 specification girls in a gt300 there are two other subgroups there is a mother chassis which you'll see there massa Toyota gt86 the mark Toyota mark X and of course the run wonderful the Lotus Evora now they all use the identical carbon fibre monocoque chassis they don't share their car fundamental chassis they all have a very familiar-looking four and a half litre v8 normally aspirated engine the Lotus has it in the back the other two cars have it in the front and then we have this the Toyota Prius this is a Jeff gt300 JAF gt300 this is a real road car that has just been modified beyond real recognition the engine has been taken out of the front of lmp1 Toyota engine has been put in the back it still has its hybrid system the high participant on that this cars comes from the Toyota Camry and it is the production car library that the 1.8 liter four-cylinder atkinson cycle petrol engine that you'd find in the road car is long gone note it southeast three and a half liter normally aspirated lmp1 that v8 in the back of that furrious they're two of those pre I out there and also meeting those same technical regulations is the Subaru BRZ there it is that is fitted with a derivative of the old World Rally Championship engine that's the flat-four boxer ej20 very nice engine in that car and that again this is the production car chassis great overtaking action going on down the start/finish line between those two girls still and ironic into Rennie roger economists just pointed out to set the at that lost from a 2.1 second gap - nothing yes the effect of traffic yeah the traffic particularly at the final sector these corners from 12 through to 16 are almost back to back this hardly any overtaking opportunity and if you get trapped behind a wide gt300 and you've got to look the back of the Lamborghini they the rear vision is difficult the cars were on a rear facing camera a little screen but you know through that final SEC - you're quite busy as a driver in here very costly for him to rally he's now got to pick his way carefully through the room people think he's worth carefully through the remaining looking there's hundreds of them pick his way through the traffic ahead of him as cleanly as he can and get his head down get back into that fast it's like rhythm that Am was set in before oh that's the thing he went from fastest lap to having just have been complete battle of the century male I mean in just one moment that's how quick these reaction changes here to the GT and that century makeup must realize he's got to get in front of the motel or tech GTR to have any chance of ever being competitive in the opening phase of this race and that's why he is racing so hard against ronique in Torelli but the gain at annexed are not making life too easy for the lexus there that was very nearly contact between 500 and 300 in Torelli looking around the outside of the Lamborghini there makes his way through the sensor remote car looking particularly racy as they come down the bottom of the hill into turn 10 now if you're unable to watch this race all the way easy to get to with this fantastic battle to the lead it's a great place to spectate and Golden Week is a lovely time to be in Japan this is worst-case scenario here for kin Torelli he's come across a pair of battling GT 300s at that final sector oh hey Kovalainen looking at the inside of his teammate look behind this dream job so this is total James Rossiter territory traffic difficulties super aggressive there you go straight up the inside and he's got a kick over lined up has he he's gonna push him out wide putting these races right off the track he's cannot hold on there are gonna be some conversations everybody's remembered what Rossiter is like and they know that he's one of the most aggressive drivers in the field if not the most aggressive he's got the Taiwan kovalainen will he get a share toe of the century row there is the Lotus Evora we've hardly seen it this they're just dragging each other along this 1.4 kilometers straight whoo he's going to get into the first corner first and Lotus is staying well out of this it's just a train of cars he was nearly bump-drafting they're trying it around the outside that's not gonna work James and you've got to watch your rear view because there is the way cos car are you gonna get a better run out of turn one not quite but he's got the toe again down into the next section Wow Wow this is just nose-to-tail wherever you look there's a battle between 1st and 2nd 2nd 3rd 4th 5th they're all together and the the traffic coming into play even with the width of Fuji it just leads to such tight overtaking girl black pink being now past 11 team elders you're right there the grips and is fading as the Red Bull Lexus passes or tries to pass doesn't quite get it done this time moves to try and go on get the drive out battle for second overall another pair of Lexus heading down into turn one Kovalainen looks to the inside and it's just me a battle of who breaks latest a you cog on [Music] around and through and as on it tart on its tires and it can laugh make go very long and even perhaps one fewer pitstop than the other cars and that so it's created nearly gave the Honda the run on the Leon Mercedes he's just will be desperately I I think there's problem to the BMW in the leader of gt300 he did look slow didn't he wasn't using the full wit for the track and that's always a telltale oh the 19 cars desperately trying to get back to the pits as fast as possible but if that's I and let's go firm the body works gone yeah he's just got the final couple of corners to go so the the team will be preparing a new left rear tire they'll change probably a pair of rear tires either probably do all four and drive a change at this point 20 laps in it's quite it's a little early but you can see the tire degradation is beginning to kick in few new sponsors in the back of that words ball car thing he's made it back to the pits but this is now do the tires coming apart now this is what and if that goes there it'll be a safety car for sure will it just hold on just for him to get into the pit entry will he block the pit entry with debris no but there is now debris down on start/finish straight I don't think there was much I think it's just tire rubber so ravelin carbon-fiber say no danger there we haven't seen what's befallen the toyota mark x and BMW uarter m6 well no it hasn't as lost his position so it might not be such a big problem so the first proper pit stop of the race but it's not even written up it's an emergency boots up they are fueling no that's why they're waiting to change the tires so fuel goes in first double stinting then the driver no driver change there somebody else coming down the pit lane that was the mark edge which will Sophia Starbuck gradually left area for he's angling for and you always ask terrific traction off the corners of course the engine dangling over the rear wheels there is just perfect to put the weight way you need it and accelerate the car efficiently so some questions coming in saying the the RV 8k engine was based on the formula Nippon engine actually originally I think it dates back to the indica before the formula Nippon days many engines have their there the family tree back into IndyCar many blocks in in in road cars can trace their engine roots back to IndyCar heritage yeah and there's a lot of those that that great Indy car might be Trump car forget which flavor of oval racing in America it was but one of those is better no winner champ car and in cars two separate series yes think it was probably Indy car but remember the last car to really use this engine it's being phased out and there is a new four-cylinder turbocharged Toyota engine from TRD which I think we'll see in the Prius next year which is very potent and looking at the speed of these gt500 cars you have to remember Sam if you're watching the Super GT for the first time here these are a 2-liter turbocharged unit a look at the power they're producing the process Oh quick but being listen to them they're so cool to listen to they make such a lovely noise now the battle for the lead is evolving but the number 39 car there is the dents OLC 500 is caught up to the motel or tech GTR and I suggest that means the the Michelin tyres are beginning to reach their end of life money can't already perhaps getting ready to hand over to CEO Matsuda and the Lexus running on the Bridgestone rubber so to manufacturers nice and and Lexus to tire manufactures richland Bridgestone now running head-to-head for the race lead and that's another 8300 cars ahead so it looks like quite a while until that 39 cars ready for a pit stop though unless they're going to double student Ikey Kovalainen so you took zoo zoo boy sho sho subbu it is is not looking ready to get into a car but his teammate is looking ready to get into the lead they're battling with those two gt3 hundreds that definitely holding up running in Cirelli very badly in the Lexus is right on the tail of the Nissan GTR gt500 and of course defending they're almost into the final corner kinter le Hatton hustlers way past and Kovalainen now in the perfect position to get a huge telephony so Ronnie defends goes to the drivers right to hug the pitbull he's going to make over line and go around the outside round the outside for the lead well ii will say made it look easy it's a little hairy t exactly yeah Ronnie looks to get the cut back but no him take over line and through into the lead questions come in about the engines in these gt500 cars the two meter in line direct-injection what what turbocharged are they using them at big ones kept really really big ones different per manufacturer that's three different engine it's not a spec engine now there's a telling telling image as well so you gave attitude and not ready to make a pit stop so there are they can adopt intronic in tireli or are they just going to deal with this type of degradation the pace is clearly dropping now on the motor the Alltech GTR and Alexia nearly century bollocks is now beginning to home in on the rear of him as well so lots of questions coming in about engines and where the engines rule well there's some fantastic chat going on in you two about engine histories which I'm quite into I'm not gonna get distracted by Walter know what Oldsmobile engine was used in the Aurora yeah what was in the front of the panels and lmp1 [Music] yeah engine again a really big one so there's been also some chat going on about the relative speeds of these girls just how fast is gt500 in comparison to say DTM in comparison DTM the gt500 leaves the DTM car standing very still yeah DTM car is very heavily handicapped in terms of a tiny little air restrictor they're held back in all manner of ways Aero efficiency etc etc whereas the Super GT cars are watching here release to the performances released to the full potential of the performances released the teams and the drivers enter yeah in terms of a lap time what would it be Sam probably I mean late or 9 seconds a lap quicker I will guess oh that's it well that's not many happen is it it's a Honda or non direction here motor in is our battling for position in there Honda NSX is is our obviously was informing GP to as it then was f2 is we now have to cool it and then behind them is it was just that humdinger going on but these cars also have that 2 liter engine but they are the 2 liter engines in at these gt500 cars are around 100 to 150 horsepower more powerful than the v8s used in the DTM and of course it's the tyre wall championship so the cars have more power and more grip there will be a little bit lighter as well the smaller capacity engine the weight I think the weight limit is the same oh is it the same place the same weight limit so there but one thing that is slated for these Honda NSX is is they have mid-engined cars not grunt engines like the DTM cars in the other two gt500 so they have a slightly different monocoque it's the same concepts roughly the same design but it has a slight different scalloping to allow the front wheels have full range of movement so it's not slightly less stiffness and they have a slight weight handicap there's resolve there big lump of debris there on startup straight I thought I saw something fly up earlier it almost looks like a dive plane or a big lump of carbon there coming out of turn 16 on the front straight comparing lap sides the gt500 to other classes is at the moment a little bit difficult because we haven't had a WEC race in good conditions at Fuji Speedway since the current and the regulations were introduced last year it was heavy rain at the track so we can't see see how the cars compared to an lmp2 for example or the current generation and a few ones pre-season testing here the cars were going around the in sort of high 28 very very low pulling fingers out there yeah high 28 low 29 and qualifying yesterday yesterday Paul was a 127 9 so they've got a second a lap quicker than Nathan in pre-season testing and I think a 28-0 would be something around the pace of a privateer lmp1 Cup it's quicker than the privateer lmp1 car as it was last time criteria we want girlfriend in good conditions yeah meets quicker than an Audi r18 hybrid in 2014 these girls would be quicker than the Audi r8 don't forget to 100 car there but you've got four Honda's all together it's like the Honda Cup and I think young Martin pretty good at that as well it is just at the back of the field behind the Artur and it sits tires in the motor will take GTR I know they're both Pitts Pitts bound picked wood fan but you can see the debris being hit by so many cars flying up in the background yeah and it's the air comes Rossiter it's the carbon fiber sharks they it neat shatters into almost needles sound and they just gonna cause trouble and when I say cause trouble they'll pick up a little puncture as they make their way down the front straight the centrifugal force of the tire will keep the tire in place until the driver hits the brakes and then back so James Rossiter climbs out second group cheat jumps in unassisted just doing his own belt sometimes it's easier for a driver to do that this is the driver RJ O'Connell belief is going to be the more aggressive driver of the a you but behind it's got the way cost LC 500 as well the Lex I clearly following the same strategy I'd expect to see the wakelock there the since Remo and the wedge sport in imminently as well and that could summon in the den so held on that little flat spot so yeah and possibly want to watch for later in the state for the way Costco yeah that's that's that's not gone well I've been trying it just in my head calculate 35 so we are looking at to stop race yeah three steps to stop yeah we're not we say the free driver cars place that they don't want have to use the free drivers remember so we've seen to you in the mother earlier now that would be service yeah thought but yeah you have very unusual to see that that was bad now that would make a lot of sense the Katyn has been a little bit anonymous in this race actually and the swordfish are out this is the secret secret finger swordfish because we did see was the the was it the cake in with the the swordfish nose on it at the end of the Opera so yes it was there's some fantastic pictures of that in the media now of this car brand round after the race with chunk of air and laboratory work sticking out the front of it a half of the race the drivers rule tires on the Ray Barry NSX any second now I don't think this team I was thinking this team now with the first third of the race completed will this team have the opportunity to double spin inspires like did pull the first 250 kilometer rail a deathly abilities a double stint the driver as well Jenson Button one of the greatest guys in global motorsport there was talk when he retired from Formula One that he was going to go and do the World Triathlon championship he's a elite level athlete fender so he's certainly up for two hours of work this afternoon around Fuji the Benson John is trending again so Benson German is absolutely on it this could this could be a brilliant strategy from having the ability we know they can double stint as we know they can double stick drivers want to keep an eye out Heikki Kovalainen in handing over to his teammate as we look back to the battling because ed and Prius in gt300 this is the position I'm not sure what the position is because it's all on pit stop cycles but these are the two Jeff gt300 mother stresses believe it or not that is a Toyota Prius and that is a Subaru BRZ and these are both built up from production the cars there's not much production car left after but so that there is they are both production cars I tip my cap at those engineers to see the pace that they can achieve from a car based on a production car is fantastic race car engineering magazine has done in-depth technical analysis of both of those cars are no because I wrote them and there are the two race leaders in GT 500 coming out of the pits but looked at the top of the screen will you see there's the frierson-bey are said the gt300 front runners but are the rest of the gt500 frontrunners this is crucial the forum engineering GTR is currently leading seen this at the Honda's before off beyond the last year where they couldn't start top hot starting yeah they would they were struggling remember these cars of mid-engine yes in the back they have slightly less throughflow you can see the engine is going but he keeps stalling it this reminds me a little bit of every year at filming a student at the Silverstone or hockenheim weathering the insurance of him they can't quite get the cars to go again after everybody this guys getting the entrance of fire but it doesn't look like he's keeping it to get to keep it running could that be the end of the gt500 definitely moral hazardous it could be a case it's worth pointing out that these cars are on a very small clutch pack and unlike a road car where the clutch is hundreds and hundreds of times in every journey the clutch is in these cars are just used for pulling away so we see double wave yellows warning the drivers are there it is yeah he is struggling to pull away and that could be a clutch problem it's gern around it's got a point in the right direction he's clearly got the engine started because he we saw him making an attempts to pull away but on how good the battery is that that's responsive if it's out or like they've just identified my haircut nonetheless or lack of haircut nonetheless first response vehicle if you have more super duty before your infratry we're real this is the first big race for these guys this season you know it's the first 500 kilometer race in front of huge crowds during the public holiday and yeah they were doing so well they were keeping the BMW honest in the head of the field and yeah lost a a podium position in the second half of the race now these cars you might not see we don't have too many onboard cameras during the race the super is the only car that has an onboard camera that works reliable during a series amusing for whatever reason that's just the situation but most of these GT 500 cars are carrying onboard cameras and I'm quite often the footage gets put out after the race I would really like to see the rear view camera of that orange and Yau Tom's car and the front view camera of the Zen Cerullo because it would be fantastic and this guy is definitely making highlights real isn't it yeah the negative body language the young man there is heartbreaking but these two lacks I have been locked together now what's week coming into maybe the six or seven clapping this is the biggest gap we've seen between them which must be about three car lengths three or four darling snap and yeah absolutely and outrage upon us just pointed something out to me but the max the max 5 GT 86 which is not normally a big repetitive car is up into the top 10 in gt300 bonnet Mary which is pretty great for them so I think we are as I said at the beginning the top of the race are so we're going to get slightly unusual rate result here and I think we are on target for that particularly in GT 300 let's systems the same Spore middle one yes quite what this basically does is allow some of the field to ignite before the spark and it gives you a much higher efficiency level and that's compression ratio of the engine going really sky-high unless you run a cable feel you have to use in these cars is too big restricting facts because they have to purchase the feel of these cars from the pumps at the racetrack yeah it's - it has to be the commercially available racetrack paddock fuel so each track has slightly different fuel so you can't have the field and the the efficiency in these petrol engines these four-cylinder turbocharged see the race leader they're running out to really try not to avoid astroturf debris on the outside of the final corner there at turn 16 the efficiency of these agencies will as I say the pre chamber ignition the direct injection the the pressure at the fuel injector head is phenomenal sort of three and a half thousand bar I heard talked about and that's you know you can't make your head round there the fuel is almost atomized and then is burn before the spark plug ignites the rest it's yeah fascinating and right within semi diesels yeah exactly they are they they they almost burn the fuel like a like a a diesel has been the direct injection era of diesel engines and they will have retained the ignition systems now one thing we're talking about there what the reason we're talking about the technology of these consoles this innovation is quite exciting so that's the reason companies like Nissan are involved in motor racing to actually develop cars but what makes the engines in these cars so relevant is because they're using that available feel on the pump it's very greatly applicable to road cars of the future and there's not you know they're not using special super high octane race fuel as you said a moment ago so it comes out of the fuel pump at the at the at the motor racing venue so if you if you turn up mercedes-amg GT car to do a track day next Wednesday will be doing using the same fuel as the motel or Tech GT 500 works team were using at the weekend and the fuel at of the armor is different to the fuel food is being wasted fuel at Suzuka and Sugo and actually sometimes there's a choice of three or four different pumps in the different manufacturers in in the Vatican sometimes actually go to the gt500 teams definitely do this they go to the racetrack a couple of weeks before buy a sample of the fuel from the pump take it home and map their engines based on the fuel they can buy from the various pumps to find which one is the best engine development is ongoing in GT 500 so the different specs of engine are introduced through the season so there are an hour to fully develop these engines and when you say is ongoing engine development will be ongoing session to session and also lap to lap the drivers have a facility on the steering wheel to change the engine map it used to be the case that drivers had access to really three maps one for qualifying one for race and one for safety car whereas now you're looking at fine tuning the engine performance and maximizing performance and maximizing efficiency it's not just point out the man who's got in the the AU Lexus it looks like the Kraken James Rossiter got in that car with the body language of a man on a mission the regulations state that they the drive getting out the cars the rest with two thirds of their driving time so he's now done that he's back out on cold tires the way cos car also doing their final full service taking one of the tear offs off the windscreen to give the second driver Clearview now in the words of Tommi makinen which is probably being radiator every single driver getting into one of these cars at the moment maximum attack [Music] and it will be as I say once these pits equus pits weeks as a cycled through this is going to be whiter race to the flag you can see that the the guys in orange they're the pit lane say leapfrog the first one leaders the previous leader Heikki Kovalainen you can you can see the gap nail it's just over a couple of seconds and the p1 and p2 are going to be running well there they are that's the gap beginning first a second and we have what if this is about it to be a battle now to the flat to the flag between two of the finest blond-haired drivers in sports car racing roni affair rubbish it's just flown by like the final of the Formula Ford Festival everywhere we've looked there's been action has been strategy it's a superb and you know a fabulous grid of cars around a fabulous venue driven by a gifted group of drivers being engineered by some fantastically knowledgeable team personalities it's just a winning winning flavor key factor in the race right there the of tire within each tire manufacturers range that we don't get that tire compound beta until after the race but they have like a soft media of super soft but that's per manufacturer so the number of on and gets the win here in 2300 he'll be the 19th of his gt300 career and it will be the all-time career record breaking the record he shares currently with mori Anita I like RJ a lot but it does people whether he's gonna have a drive out there I don't know but he's certainly interested in Japanese racing there'd be great to see drivers like him I think even drives like mix Schumacher have been evaluating he drives out in Japan as well you've got to look previous generations of drivers of including Michael Schumacher went to Japan cut their teeth and [Music] yet developed their skills right here Okawa Nick Cassidy in fifth Sikh physician is Tachikawa seventh Ashima and Rosenquist 8 sec you cheat and general I think they've got these points wrong because range Rossiter didn't get any points in round 1 they've got these graphics wrong because they haven't got the right drivers there guys the Epson car tells a story on its own takagi and Walkinshaw lead the gt300 championship ahead of Nakayama and Kobayashi with tomorrow's Fuji and it's min Willa in third position hironaka and Yasuda in 11th Nina in part 11 that's the GTR in fourth and there's some people walking around on directors but yeah they've done a great job just whimpering their car at a relatively low Lee qualifying position well it's a slightly random highlights reelection so the end of the race but there you on it's Saturday I believe and then we have confirmation on the screen our next round is at Suzuka here for super GT so that's on the May 19th and 20th so back to a regular weekend slot for our next
