[Music] there has to be a title assault and anything less will be a failure oh and a spin [Music] bro [Music] fire [Music] welcome to super gt and welcome to the race it's the third round of japan's finest motor racing championship for closed wheel cars my name's sam collins and i'm joined as always by rob bath and i am seriously looking forward to this one oh absolutely sam it's gonna be mega um at suzuka for the first time this uh this year and it's narrow it's challenging it's historic and it's not the fuji motor speedway so somewhere new somewhere challenging um changes in balance of performance as well and they've um mixed up gt 300 again rule changes balance of performance changes so yeah all to play for and the ult the ultimate balance changer is also a factor there's rain in the air it hasn't started raining at the track yet we'll go down to the grid in a little while but before we do that we'll take a look at what happened last time out at fuji speedway at the takanoko hotel fuji speedway 300 kilometers race it was an interesting it was an interesting race it was a real mix it wasn't quite as focused on the toyota supras from the start but there were trouble for the hondas it was trouble for quite a few other cars as well no big tire failures because of the rule changes they had in gt300 but up front in gt500 the nissan struggled a little bit but not as bad as they had in race one in in gt 300 though there was an almighty battle for the lead centered around this car the lotus evora apple syntheum car and it took its first ever race victory for that mother chassis car built in japan engineered in england and then the cahin nsx took its first win of the season and honda's first win will they be able to repeat that here at super we don't know yet but we'll be finding out very shawl shortly here at suzuka for the next round and i i really enjoyed that race rob and yeah that was a fantastic race rob wasn't it oh it's terrific really good um the nice thing about super gt is it's a constantly evolving and uh uh evolving championship uh the balance of performance has worked perfectly so far this season one thing i think we're going to have to look for though is where have nissan been in gt 500 so far gt 300 it's been difficult to choose between the the fia gt3 cars and the mother chassis cars suzuka has always suited sam the mother chassis cars that first sector the sort of the s's around the back of the pits that suits the lighter more nimble gt300s but the fia gt3 cars in gt300 stay with me folks have had a performance break as well so yeah just so looking forward to it it's going to be very unpredictable what one man who's going to have to deal with all of that trouble and all of those challenges is just just managed somehow to get back into japan due to the coronavirus pandemic it's been a little bit difficult for some of the regular drivers to get into the country they've had to go through quarantine processes but one man who's managed to do it straight from finland is mr heike kovalein who joined us live from a hotel in ginza back in the starting grid and it's formula one's officially eighth fastest driver hiki covalent ike um you're back in japan you're currently speaking locked in a hotel room somewhere in tokyo not allowed out but you managed to get back that's great news yeah the travel restrictions were such that uh wasn't able to travel from finland back to japan when the super gt season was resuming and missed the first couple of races but the day they uh eased the restrictions because the day that i was the embassy in uh in helsinki the japanese embassy applying for the for the necessary document that i needed uh together with a negative kodi test to come here in japan to arrive here in japan and it all worked out pretty well a couple of days later i was here and now i've been locked in another room for nearly two weeks but soon out and uh yeah i'm looking forward to suzuka now so we've you've missed two races so far and you've seen somebody else in your brand new shiny toyota supra how has that felt for you to see somebody else doing quite well in your car yeah i mean it felt okay uh both guys i think they did a pretty good job um and then i know that both both are very good drivers uh they did a very good job better that they didn't do it too good otherwise maybe the team would have told me to stay in finland and they could have carried on but uh yeah it was it was all good now the supra seems extremely strong dominated the first race at fuji was still really very strong at the second race fuji now we're going to suzuki quite a different track what's your assessment of the honda and nissan cars from watching at home rather than watching from behind the steering wheel well yeah the surprise suddenly certainly seem strong the first couple of rounds um you know it's it's the evolvement from the lexus if you like it's uh it's very similar to lexus last year it's always good in the race configuration it's quite nice on the tires the the tire degradation is not that high and then the the drag is less this year in this car a lot of guys are saying that the third engine is like unbelievably powerful now but i think it's actually the car has got less drag than last year so we are quite quick on the straight line as well there's still um some areas where the other cars honda and nissan look stronger the last sector uh especially nissans looked really strong there so it'll be interesting to see now when we go to suzuka now on this channel in just seven days time we have the opening round of the 2020 super formula championship very different series open wheel racing but due to the virus situation there are some drivers who aren't on the grid which means there's some empty seats going hiki cover line and as a driver with some fair open wheel experience and a toyota contract have you thought about jumping into one of those stellar sf-20s or sf19s um i've been offered a few seats already uh but i've got the correctly uh said no i think that part of the carrier is done and i mean it's a competitive championship you know you can't just turn up even if you've got some experience and even my experience from single seaters it's a decade ago it's so long ago that you know i think it would not be that easy and and still something that i wouldn't want to just go and do with with one hand and not do it properly i would need to get some testing done and yeah need to get this gt season going first and full focus on that and there was plan to do a couple of rallies towards the end of the season but they all seem to be cancelled now so there might not be any rallies coming this season unfortunately well thank you very much mikey kovalen a much it's great to see haiki back in japan and back in super gt i'm actually quite jealous of him being there and me being here in my very very narrow library um and robert you're in a very narrow helmet room where you i guess you spend a lot of time um i don't know cleaning yeah thank you thank you i'm always i'm always very wary when racing drivers categorically deny anything and when haki said well yeah that part of my career is over i'm wondering how long it's going to be before we see hakee kovalein and back in a super formula car in some way shape or form oh well you know it's just a test but yeah interesting to hear what he was saying about the supra's straight line speed because we saw that at fuji and if it is slippery coming out of the chicane on the run down the front straight at suzuka could make all the difference it really could i mean we're talking about super formula and that is on next week on this channel so don't forget to hit like and subscribe but we've suzuka and super gt and what happened well less than 24 hours ago and it's the the qualifying sessions from this race and we'll look at the top three from each class and it's well it was a little bit not what we expected particularly in gt300 so there we go suzuka circuit meat prefecture and two sessions of qualifying for each category air temperature was 33 degrees centigrade track temperature almost 50. 74 humidity and gt300 got the show underway and the arta nsx home team home race for that team they're getting out mr orange jacket very happy with his cars there keep an eye though on the gr green brave supra that's got 75 kilos on board but look number one car 31 it's the toyota prius if the red one not the yellow one the yellow one is the number 30. but there look the realized gtr driven by joe palo oliviero he was flying around what is it 158 dead that put him on pole position but did it hang on a minute sam naughty naughty track limits not by much but they all count all four wheels off the track on the exit 130r that put him out of contention and put that car on pole position it's the toyota supra starting from pro koki saga put the car up there and that is going to be a very interesting car okay saga wanting red hair for his red car this weekend and um an interesting approach to wearing his face mask over the nose over the nose i'm gt 500 well the epson modulo number 64 honda another one this is hondazone circuit and that's your as close as you're going to get to a worx honda in a gt500 or carter essentially works anyway and the modulo car was absolutely flying around but the toyotas weren't out of it either the zentsurumo supra was up there as well tachikawa took that one round and then the return of the red car the nissan moto ortek gtr put its best performance in in qualifying of the year and went second that is a car to watch in the race and we're gonna go and have a look at starting grid right about now and there they are some lovely flags it's not raining but the rain could be coming in there's the grid the brollies are up it is hot at suzuka suzuka circuit situated in a me prefecture just a little way down from nagoya but let's check out that starting grid it's the modulo nsx but on pole position it's always starts that card running torelli in the 23 motor or tech pcr is followed by tachikawa in the sense of remote gr supra poor honda is in fifth alongside the red sports gtr it's called supra and the cahin nsx is in seventh the very nsx aquino at the wheel of that in eighth position hiking cover linen makes his first gp start this season in ninth position same position jorge hirate in the number three white nissan gtr gt cassidy starts the number the wheel of the tom number 37 fifa car 58 kilos of ballast on that the 36 his teammate fascia fenestraz 60 kilos on it yeah martin broth got to be disappointed the best part of the season 13th position in the realized advanced gtr the arterenitex is in 14th and rounding out of the field is the famous blue car hiromine you know the number 12 cal sonic gtr in gt300 as we said it's the toyota prius on pole nakayama starts that car pokey saga will take over at that point in the during the race the 55 arter nsx is second put down to third it's jp oliveira and fujian army starts the car if they realize rcf lexus is in full fifth position it's the saitama toyo pets gr super 75 kilos of ballast on that keep an eye on it sixth position is the tanak's innix hoshino starts the number in 10 position in the knitter seventh position is the gainer tadax gtr a physicist audi r8 then the up garage nsx in ninth tenth position is the leon amg mercedes the lotus that one last time out starts in 11th position the k-tunes lexus is in 12th 13th is the gt86 advice muta car 14 is the modulo nsx michigan starts that jake parsons will take over a little bit later the teddy bear bmw team study in at 15. so yeah ara at the wheel of that the second of twitter freezes is in 16th position this is who knows the subaru brz 17th position is the maxim gt net gt mcatx back go that's the number five car number in tuning miku starts down in 19 they're going to be disappointed with that the ato rcf is in 20 position the syntium lm corsa lexus is in 21st 22nd is the aston martin fuji starts that sean song in the ava rt test uh type r1 x works audi the run-up reeboks gtr is the number 360 car 24th the shoko mo tanaka at the wheel of that toku gtr 25th the 26th position is the j-lot lamborghini we'll talk a little bit about that they're not too happy about their balance of performance 27 position 27 positioner in is the rqs amg then the arnard jmg the hoppy porsche had a terrible qualifying the bonnet came up and in rounding out the field is the other lamborghini that's the t dash car but it is also run by the same theme at j lock rob oh sam you're my hero if your wi-fi died halfway through that grid i just don't know what i would do interesting to see some new names in the field obviously heike kovalein and one of a number of european drivers managing to sneak back out to japan um sean walking show sean walking shore still missing unfortunately from the grid though but yeah the lamborghinis really do seem to um be struggling with their balance of performance as you say sam they're not very happy with where they are i can't believe the hoppy porsche is happy with where they are either you know their experience as a team oh three minutes five minutes to go so that's the five minute board in the background yeah so it's gonna be interesting seeing some big weights being carried as well 75 kilos that's like a medium-sized human yeah that's the way i was when i was about 20. well we see that giant autobacks banner and we heard the hero music and we've grid's getting cleared and we're getting ready to go racing here at suzuka man what a field what a field 30 cars again in gt 350 in gt500 for those of you that maybe haven't seen super gt before where have you been i want to see a letter from your mother remember the gt500s they have the white headlights when they turn them on and gt 300s have the yellow headlights making them slightly easier to see but around this narrow twisty 3.6 mile circuit yeah huge field autobox ah mr orange jacket it's here it's ken ozone mr ozone to you thank you he's the officer of auto back seven co limited and he's saying good luck in the race thanks for joining and there's his car number 55 and there's this banner shame his fans are not there to see it and the opening declaration is done but it's a shame the fans are not there to see it one of them is standing by the side of a river somewhere and waving the flag furiously one minute to start if you're on dunlop players at least i think if you're any tyres they've just got they've done a lot lately to go and do it for her the fuji mackie group is the sponsor of this 300 kilometer race the fuji mexican group sam i was just gonna say but sam what did the fuji maki group do the fiji maki greek well i'm surprised you don't know rob because the maki group is the leading country of steel plate production and supply they have 24 bases in japan and two overseas bases well one overseas base that hopefully we're not is not here but one base in japan that they've got right now is suzuka circuit and sitting there looking down at that honda on pole nissan in second and toyota third what will be the order be in after 300 kilometers of racing and a ski style countdown to the green well the green flag for the warm-up flap not the green flag for the next week rob what are you looking forward to not just in this race but also this weekend you know the the politics of super gt fascinates me the way some of the manufacturers own the circuits and here we are at the home of honda this historic track owned by honda with a honda nsx on pole position we've seen the arter gt 300 honda showing strong so hoping to see um a bit of a not a break to the domination of the toyota supras but more of the other manufacturers coming into the mix it's fantastic to see the leading nissan lining up on second position in the gt500 grid so yeah you know what's not to like about this suzuka circuit it's it's unusual i used the word narrow and challenging earlier but it's so historic and there's so few circuits have that figure of eight configuration yeah it's mega yeah it's a fantastic circuit to watch motor racing on rob and where you can see the gt300 starting grid on your screen won't talk through that we've already done it but it's a wonderful track you've raced here in the super gt so talk around the lap if you can so you come past the pits then down into a double right-hander there's a series of s's behind the pits that rises up in a huge long curve at turn seven through a double right hander at the dagners that delivers you here this section we're looking at here is turn 9 10 11 at the hairpin you then come up this long right hander here which is the 200r at turn 12 into spoon curve now spoon curve is turns 13 and 14. you take it as one you can see our pole man coming into the second part of that and i think coming out of turn 14 was where jp oliveira ran wide in qualifying to deny him that gt 300 pole position you've then got a relatively short straight past the support race pits which you can see there on the left-hand side of your screen down into the 130r now 130r very similar in profile to blanchiman at spa this one is proper fast big left-hander many people remember alan mcnish's accident in the toyota f1 there where he had a really good go at writing himself off but successfully managed to avoid that so they're coming down into the 130r now and then the final chicane the casio triangle as it was called is turn 16 and 17 um where they're coming into now on the formation lap and that leads finally into the final curve turn 18. sam over to you for the start of the gt 500s here at suzuka oh sam's gone great shape so here we go lining up on pole position then the honda nsx he will draw to the right of the grid the nissan gt-r will draw to the left-hand side of the grid the marshall there encouraging the drivers to drop into grid formation remember folks in super gt this is a split start so we will see the gt500s go first there'll then be a short break for the gt 300s sam are you back it's a long hold on the red lights it is it was just waiting for me rob and we get underway the lights go green and well trying the warmest tires but hold back the nissan the honda goes into the first corner first and this has not far behind and the toyota a little way back behind them but there's a battle for the lead from the word go with the nissan desperately trying to get past into the s's great performance great start from the motorola gtr but they've got to look behind them because there's the sensor remote car there's a gt 300 race about to start we're looking at the battle there between the blue car and the sensor remote car but look at this battle for the lead four cars now two supra's chasing down there's the gt300 leaders you watch the uh the gt500 cars droppers they're about to be a change of lead or what's gt 300. we've almost got contact there in gt 500 sam the nissan still putting the honda under pressure as they come down into the daggers back to you for the 300 start well it's far more today in gt300 as the prius uses that hybrid boost to get off the line quite well honda into seconds and the nissan in third it's almost played out a little bit the same as gt 500 in the race order further back though it's a sedate start for the 75 kilo laden toyota supra gt300 he's trying to get past the lexus and he's got a nissan on his tail as the field goes through it's all quite calm in gt300 land unlike in gt500 though and another honda under pressure that's the red bull mug and honda under massive pressure from the calsonic gtr further back in the field there is action all over the track gt300 the that is mr orange jackets nsx being hassled by the realizer and it's the prius is off the uh the number number 33 is that's the yellow car has gone off that's going to be a safety car he's going off in the second second of the essays that long left-hander and that is bound to be a safety car i don't think they can do that no so he's dropped it sam on the exit of turn six and gone hard right into the rectus cell air barrier as you see there before turn seven i said is there going to be contact here yes there is he was forced off wasn't he was there was he was he fired off by an amg wait for it let's look for this i think it might have been the amg there that passed through our screen i couldn't see which one it was but certainly contact there and are terrible for the prius to be so badly damaged so early in the race and here we go sc boards out and here's the safety car now if you've not seen a safety car in super gt before it's a little bit different to in other championships where the cars will form up because they're pretty much in race order at the moment anyway what you'll see is the cars will come around to the starting grid and form up with gt 500 on one side and gt 300 on the other they'll shuffle the order that won't take very long because nobody's allowed down yet if they are they've done really badly at this point and then they'll get the cars back going underway but first of course they have to clean up the remains of the prius so one period out of the race the other prius leading the race in that gt 300. i was thinking sam watching the start you could already see some of the damage being done by the success ballast on the car particularly those cars that have been right at the front of the first two races they're solidly back in the pack and suzuka is so hard to them it's so hard for them through that first sector turns three four five and six where we had the incident you're gently rising up hill and if you are carrying ballast there it's really going to be costly so as we see our race leader coming down towards turn 15 the 130r at a slightly reduced speed yeah it's um it's an interesting one for the team's this because it looks you know the sun is shining at the moment in suzuka and uh the weather looks relatively stable rj o'connell from super gt world was pointing out to me last night that there is a forecast for rain to start at suzuka about eight minutes ago so we could have some weather coming in yeah from my time at the circuit sam i just remember it being so humid the weather could change from blue sky humid to a few fluffy clouds humid to almost like tropical showers and we saw in qualifying 74 now let's play spot the naughty was it an amg or was it a lexus no it's a it's mc86 around the outside of the prius i don't think the mc86 i was then was to blame there the prius was trying to go up the inside of him and had what in formula one you might call a seb spin uh he didn't quite spin it because there was a barrier in the way and now is that six i was just to sorry some i was just going to say the 86 was marginally ahead as they entered turn seven as well so they were obviously close if there wasn't contact maybe he dropped it on cold tires but ah really unfortunate for him to be heading out the way he is being tugged off there up under the safety car well the snatch tractor is tugging him off but um now a lot of people are probably sitting at home saying wait a toyota prius in a gt race yes that's absolutely right this is a toyota prius running under the chaff gt 300 technical regulations the gt300 technical regulations mean that you have to take the most of the production car the chassis of it the core of it so the bit in front of the footwell bulkhead there the most some of the roof lines some of the floor the a pillars and b pillars and and some of the rear and then you can throw everything else in the bit then you have to take a engine from that manufacturer's range it goes to the previous they've gone and got a v8 from the gt3 car but it's been agreed tuned specially for that toyota prius and then it's got tube frame front and rear with a hybrid system that's come over from the toyota camry production car all of these tunes completely and you end up with two toyota prius racing cars on the basis of that the other car running to the gt300 technical regulations is the subaru brz that's got an engine based on a world rally car engine and then the other type of gt300 which we'll talk about but we didn't mention because it was involved in that incident was the mother chassis gt300 so the gt86 and lotus are built to those rules they've got a carbon fiber monocoque and then they're fitted with a not a tool similar to a nissan four and a half liter v8 normally aspirated engine and they're able to put it at the front or the back of the monocoque and races front or mid engine in that sense now we're seeing a replay here of the start in a gt500 that's unusual we don't normally get dive straight into a replay at this point and i'm just wondering if the race organizers were unhappy with some of that weaving didn't work out too well for the pulse it's because that nissan was right on his tail rob yeah i'm wondering if we're watching this looking out for anything that may be considered morally hazardous sam they were absolutely very they were very very close at one stage um but do you think there could have been a jump start there i think i i i it's unusual the way they suddenly cut to it and we're taking a look i haven't seen use of a penalty yet but i i don't know the race organizers didn't seem too happy you might hear us refer to things as being morally hazardous but they're looking at it again now oh this gt300 i'm just looking at some starting from the pits which i hadn't spotted um there where we see a much cleaner start they realized gt are trying to get a bit of heat in his tires no tyre warmers allowed in super gt either well that prius got away neatly back down the field as i said at the start this is quite an orderly start but i was talking about the mother sashi gt300 cars and and those cars along with the chaff gt 300 cars are racing against your standard fi gt3 cars and there's a little bit of this harmony should we say in the pack particularly from the boss of the jlot lamborghini team and some of the other gt3 drivers they're referring to cars like this the prius and the mother chassis mc-86s as gt400 because they're a little bit too powerful a little bit too quick compared to the gt3 cars and they're not too keen on that gt300s the 300 is supposed to describe the estimated horsepower of the cars as this gt500 well the gt500 cars these days put out a little bit shy of 700 brake horsepower and the gt300 cars are up in the order of about 450 brake horsepower they maybe they all need to be renamed yeah absolutely big thanks going out to unknown fashion and roger toledo for their generous donations always appreciated thank you boys or girls as we see the [Music] the head one of the gt300s rejoining yeah that's the hair transplant nissan very early stop for them and i don't think that is going to be for fuel or tires there has been a rule there you've been studying these rob there have been some rule changes on pit stops the gt300 haven't there well first they could change four tires then they could change two tyres now we are back to being able to change four tires um it's it's very interesting it's very interesting they were very worried for the second fuji race about tire failures as we see the little uh live snatch vehicle there um going back to his position you can see they've cleared up the uh the the crash site really nicely but the um yeah the race organizers were very worried about the gt 300 tire carcass failures um here at suzuka perhaps not so hard on the tyres i'm not so sure but they're allowing them to change four tyres again at the pit stop in these conditions tyre wear is going to be absolutely critical and quite a few teams are a little bit worried about how far they can go some of the gt300 cars are rumored to be trying to go the race distance without a tire change a lot of people think that's going to be very difficult we saw with cars like the lamborghini that was literally destroying its tyres at fuji speedway suzuka is much harder on the tyres and could that be a problem well it's something to watch but for a lapse in all of which have been pretty much under the safety card but the safety car has disappeared off for the safety supra we had a nice video of them on board on social media on twitter don't forget to like and subscribe on youtube as well and follow us on all the social media [Music] for a car to go the distance around suzuka [Music] on one set of tyre sam they're going to have to make some setup changes they're going to have to take some tracking out of the car they're going to take some camber off but what a restart from the honda there as long as you can catch this safety car too soon here no i think we're good it's long gone it's long gone i'd say the modular car got away well but look at the speed of an island coming back to it now nissan haven't been too happy with their setup and then these are all brand new cars for this season they haven't really bedded in that car for 2020. there's a shunt in the background that's the red bull mugen nsx has gone off on the well that's a really odd place to go off did he just loot it under acceleration yeah is that going to be another yellow it just pushed wide under the restart and i i'm trying to be kind to him perhaps he got a puncture during the safety car period and yeah he just understeered wide coming out the final curve at turn 18 light contact with the barrier there for hideki muto and yeah we see a honda creeping down the front straight and if it is a puncture he's a long long way from home 3.6 miles in fact those white headlights were off so there's no fire in that guy he's lost his left rear wheel it's not obvious obviously that's a pretty big country it's got no wheel at all well we'll see what that means five laps in people watching super gt on the hyphen race dot com and ronnie kintarelli and some of the huge pressure from the zen supra for second position in a gt500 but wait till that nissan's tires come in he will chase down that honda but it's going to be interesting because this is what we were talking about those heat cycles on the tyres after a safety car now is the track clear on the start finish line no sign of the safety car yet but it is it going to be a full course yellow to clear up that stricken red bull honda we don't know the modulo honda though leading down into 130 r for only the second time at race speed and or first time at race speed and the zen zippers gets up the inside of the nissan it's already doesn't see him coming and he doesn't let alright he gets through nice and cleanly are there yellow flights out on the start finish line rob who knows sam who knows takagawa they're punting putting a move on ronnie kintarelli into the chicane ronnie from second back to third and already under the under pressure from the weight cost supra there in fourth so the zen supra on the march question is can he catch the modular nsx meanwhile in gt 300 and yes it does look clear on the front straight it's as it as it was with the prius leading from the honda nsx and then the realized gt-r in third well just looking at the honda nsx as a great move up the inside the fourth position by the green brave supra that's a brand new car for this year gets faster alexis up to fourth and he's going to work his way up field 75 kilos of ballast on that after thorne informants more trouble though in gt300 that's the final chicane and wada has lost to rqs amg gt3 in a very unhelpful position but you can hear the engine running you can you can hear him trying to restart and here we see oh it's amg on amg by the look of it remember these cars are left hand drive and he just didn't see the sister amg coming and left front contacted to right rear contact and if anything screams moral hazard penalty i think that's going to be it i think that's definitely morally hazardous yeah that has not gone well this race has been quite exciting so far and it's about getting more exciting keep an eye on that green door built by about 12 filled brightly with the theme we built the priuses three eye and the uh a bunch of garage mechanics who fix your car your corolla it's the saitama toyota dealership and this is what they do at the weekends they go racing yeah that supra looks very very racy um as does this supra in the middle of our picture there the [Music] team rookie car the gt 500s sort of half defensive as they come down into turn one honda on honda honda honda even better on baguette they're leading that pair so kahin from ray brigg the two blue cars i'm really glad they painted them all the same color makes our job extra easy not yeah there's a lot of blue car action going on in super gt this year which is um surprising as the famous blue car hasn't been in any of it about the action because it's right down the back of the field but this is a good battle with bertie baguette and makino bear going for it but just looking through the field this is going to be this is the strategy element of this race 52-lap race has already started so these themes because there's no tire warmers in super gt but there's also entire wall with four different tyre manufacturers dunlop bislam bridgestone and yokohama all trying to get the best out of their cars so while you may see a bunch of hondas all looking identical they may well not be on the same tyres so they have different tyre compound so at the moment the cahin real racing car and the raybrig nsx as you can see they're both on bridgestones but behind them the wedsport bando uh supra is on yokohama tyres so it's going to be interesting for the race leader the mutual nakajima racing car that's always the famous number the white number 64 car so it's no longer white wall number 64. that car is on dunlop players so the girl at the start with the one minute was spot on do you think we're gonna see any teams not change tires sam 52 laps seems an awfully long time around here and how's it leading to just before the restart you're gonna have to take out a lot of camber to make the tyres last for almost two hours aren't you yeah absolutely i think um if you're one of the front running gt500 teams there's no way you can give away that sort of performance but in this class gt300 may you see one of the mother chassis gt86s or perhaps even that green supra go for a run and try and swap out those not pop out those tires get a bit of track position bit of advantage that's potential but if there's a safety car mid-race and everybody comes diving for the pits at that point everybody's going to change tyres a bit like a nascar pit stop now we're looking back down the order at the cal sonic gtr which seems to be the outboard yeah he looks a bit sick that's not a happy nissan is it does seem to be popping and cutting a little bit and the corner speed you'd expect to see him no he's sort of getting back up to speed i i honestly sam i don't know no that that seems odd i'm just looking at his sex times at the moment just to see if i can pick up anything on it is yeah his last lap was nine seconds down on where it should have been so somewhere he's lost nine seconds so i'm not quite sure what was wrong maybe there was something with that uh in-line four-cylinder two-liter turbo charged engine all gt500 cars of course run inline four-cylinder turbocharged engines but there's maybe something wrong with that nissan lump i'm not quite sure um so these cars with four-cylinder engines yes they kick out nearly 700 horsepower and they're extremely similar in combustion chamber designed to those used in formula one to the point that nissan developed their formula one engine with the engine in this car the modulo nsx those two nsx is a little bit further back still looking very racy here as we come down to turn one for the ninth time and these two world cast drivers going at it right now bertrand paguette and tarasu makino were both seen as sort of the next great hope for formula one at some points in their career but they're now both finding carving themselves a new niche in super gt and japanese racing well worth keeping an eye on these two though because their careers are still in the ascendancy and i think if they've got a safe long career in japan but i think they're not happy with that and they're not happy with each other's position certainly makino is not happy being behind the man whose name sounds like some bread and there is definitely problems for the calsonic gtr which is crawling into the pit and into the garage nose in which is the usual sign of retirement bad luck for the blue car that's the speaker yeah any time you nose into the garage that is the proverbial walk of shame i'm afraid and the body language in the mechanics they're popping the bonnet off they're having a little look but no massive rush there to get going meanwhile at the front of gt 500 they're shortly going to be coming into the gt 300 yes they are doing now so they're into the back of the gt 300 field this is where it's going to get racy between these two cars when you're in this situation into traffic if one car goes the other way you've just got a gamble and go the other so going to be interesting to keep an eye as they come through the lap traffic sam yeah and this is the open flow of super gt every now and again the gt 500 front runners will encounter the massive train of the gte 300 cars out and there's that change that we are expecting the bravery card that got passed with the traffic helping out on the way into the final chicane neat move and um yamamoto looks uh content with that i almost mastered man powered flight then my arms are waving around so much watching him make the move coming down into the uh into the little chicane there all into turn one that was close as well so yeah this is the thing about suzuka it's so narrow in places and given the speed difference between the gt500s and 300s they have to be careful but the last of that little trio the green toyota supra that we're looking at there still looks pretty racy considering he's carrying look at that sam 75 kilos it's a medium sized person it's super super impressive it's quite a tall person actually just eats well when i was racing i was 75 kilos exactly so that's how i know um it's a great battle here warming up with that so we're getting onto the back of these two fi gt3 gt3 specification cars and you're gonna have the the two gt300 cars the super of course is also built to the draft gt300 regulations same as the prius but the supra isn't a hybrid jp oliveira are looking on and well he's got a while to wait before it's his go to get into that blue and white gtr it's uh it's really interesting sorry i was just going to say sam these two cars that we're looking at there they've enjoyed a little bit of a performance break in terms of restrictor size and boost pressure as well so they've had a little bit more performance released to them via the organizers but that's supra in currently fourth position there carrying the 75 kilos looks fairly comfortable this reminds me of the arrival of one of that little mr2 in the jgtc days back in the 90s i think it was 1995 or 1996 that turned up and just turned up brand new car blitz the gt300 field and it looks like this supra has got the potential to do that because look at the way it's homing in on the back of the much bigger gt fia gt3 cars it's it's a it's a really impressive bit of engineering you're watching these you're watching these third absolutely they are these these cars are quicker than the quality lmp1 yeah by quite some quite some margin oh this is fantastic so here we go there top of the circuit spoon curve turns 13 and 14. circuit descends downhill now to the support race pits using a lot of curb all three of the cars there's they're legal remember this is the battle for the lead of the race coming into 130r deep breath fire the car in just after the white line and look at the corner speed just immense or the race leader having to go defend oh contact oh well that's not that's definitely morally hazardous now he comes back out into the lead how they're going to deal with this keep an eye on the gtr though he's in third is he going to capitalize is the sense of rumor [Music] gonna have to give that position back to the honda i think he's gonna have to because he cut the chicane but look the top four all together how are they gonna work this one out and they're coming into lacked traffic they're coming into the gt 300s as well are just at the worst time for the new suit to be the short-lived race leader i feel um yeah there's the lamborghini he started from the pit lane and yes he's giving the place back sam he's giving the place back kid torelli they're looking to make amends as well third of the second but yeah as suspected immediately told by his team to give the place back and the lamborghini again finds itself in the wrong place that was very very neatly done i thought there was no way that the nissan wasn't going to get past at that point but sure enough it didn't that was good but look you've got one of the other you've got one of the i think that's the uh the ray brick nsx now has come and joined the fight for the lead battle and look at that second down to fifth position absolutely together what a battle and there's still a lot more gt 300 cars for them to get by yeah only another 28 of them oh this is squeak this is squeaky trouser time folks just action at the front of the gt 500 lead the top five nose to tail if anybody drops it in traffic here it's going to be carnage but yeah amazed that we saw the race the changes we did at the chicane it seems like only alapago it was so here we go again through the 130 r coming down into the chicane no contact this time around but a little lock up from our race leader and he goes by he's going to say he's gone wide i wasn't sure if he's going to make the corner the camera didn't turn around quick enough but that's going to cost him time on the exit and the sense supra is going to be capitalizing on that he's got into the line of stern position having a think about a run into turn one besides against it keep an eye into the hairpin but look at that queue of gt300 cars they're about to encounter on the run up to the deagness that is going to be absolute carnage if you don't if you don't click like and subscribe you're a weirdo isn't it this just the best racing world here we go there's this car coming back out the pitch and this is the lead chain of gt 500 into a rolling gt 300 coming up return seven and don't look at that and don't forget this is a motor race within a motorist these gt 300 cars there's the hockey porsche are battling for their own race they there are no blue flags here it's up to the gt500 cars to get the job done all on their own and look there goes the modulo nsx faster first group around the outside though goes to the disadvantage brilliant move kenzarelli just went a long way round he took the counting wetland around the hairpin to get around the pop well i don't know why he got by but he got past somebody yes he's he's solidly back up into second now so kinterelli going back up into second signing his weight past the aston martin there as they come down now to start the final section oh look they're three of preston but what you've got there you've got gt 300 having their own battery you've got gt500 battling for the lead and in the middle of that you've got the calsonic gtr gt500 back up to speed and better lap down trying to get out of the way of everybody but still part of gt300s and that's how you end up with just a mess like this at the front of the bag so the big winner there was ronnie kinterelli in the motel or tech gtr more gt300 cars to come and this is why super gt is just brilliant because this new class racing really really works well look at that mess back down start finished straight and they're in contact the sensor and the nissan touch and they nearly lose it but kinter really holds it together but he's now going to be having to fight off that pair of supras in through the snake and the the team wake of steam rookie car is now going to try and get the run on the zen car into the digners i wish we had on board footage sam uh torelli must have had an awful opposite lock there in fifth gear about 140 miles an hour i would suggest well yeah the onboard footage is uploaded on the super gt official youtube channel so don't forget to have a look at that at some point in the next week or so all the cars have cameras but they don't put it out to us live so often they occasionally do but not that often but that is that that level of bracing in just a few laps only 14 laps into this wonderful race and there's so much more to come here on the hyphen race dot com so yeah absolutely hit like and subscribe because there is a are 180 miles an hour three abreast folks and remember this is the battle for the race lead coming out of the 130 r they're gonna be into another third of gt 300 cars as they come to the chicane i mean and that's what makes it progressively harder it's a battle for the leading gt 500 those four cars together all fighting for the opposition there's a fifth position car he's not far behind as well you see him there he is but as they work forward through the gt300 field it gets harder and harder to get faster because those cars are getting progressively faster so look there's the subaru brz and the sensor route by the center zipper is trying to go around the outside this time with ronnie kids really those two are going to make contact surely and then loses rear end that's going to open the door for the weight cost team rookie car but the the vrz was in the way of the supra and the breaker against x now just hanging on to the back of those he could capture the light on this you know lead has been compromised slightly sam and kid torelli yet their top three are all back together that nissan looks really racy through the twisty stuff he's lacking a little bit of straight line speed but is he alongside here yes kittarelli takes the lead as they come round turn seven he does change nsx is now joining the party as has heike overlaid it in the saad supra this is the top seven or eight now all running together it's absolute carnage down there in gt 500 yet there's more traffic as the well now look at that the nissan has cut up to the front but look at all that traffic they're still working through and there's still a load more gt 300 cars to come hey sam here's something i didn't think i would say today ronnie cantorelli leads the super gt race here at the suzuki suzuka motor speedway um well you've got kintarelli from the uh supra from yeah the wacos rookie car yeah the weight loss rookie car moved up but he's had thunder does he have any damage it's hard to say ronnie can't really getting up the end inside of the leon of mercedes in gt 300 that's one of the front-running cars in that category but he's not having a great race the lotus there getting a move on the leon car as well as which stops the weight cost rookie car getting up the inside the rapid nsx trying to make a move this is two races at once and uh yeah i mean these days you have a whole season of f1 versus one race of this the best thing of the time difference is you can have both that's why i'll be watching the indy 500 with the chat with the guys on the hyphen race.com later on today sam in the last 3.6 miles that modulo nsx has gone from p1 to p7 yeah i'm wondering if he's got damage because that was quite a physical battle and i wonder if he picked up a little bit of damage to those front canard wings and uh the zen car now being really heavily held up by gt 300 cars there that out he didn't see him and now he also hasn't seen the wacos rookie car and open the door and actually he's making life very difficult the raping nsx is going to capitalize they're heading up towards the deckless is he going to have a look into the fastest corner no he's not past this corner but it's a very fast corner yeah the first part of the daggers is proper quick there dagna one at turn eight and uh yeah here we see two gt 300 cars battling ah oh well we just see everybody battling everywhere that's a gt 300 against the weight loss rookie going around the outside of the rapid nsx who's in the grass both of them being held up by a gt300 car they've got three cars it's the uh zen zipper there they're trying to get onto the back of now the zen super is exposed on the way into spoon sure enough the uh rape against x is side by side now it's going to be it's not even going to be a drag race down the back straight but in pole position for a good slip stream is the wacos rookie car behind the raid for agnes he's going to get a double toe is he going to have a look into 130 r well are the gt300 cars going to get in the way yes they are compromised this line into the exit but look capitalizing from all of this chaos is ronnie kintarelli who's finally made a little bit of clear air and is able to breathe again and so maybe will we be able to he was he was the man through traffic that was immense that was a master class from ronnie cantorelli the way he positioned himself around the outside of the hairpin to take the lead and to put lap traffic between him and the pack behind was immense i mean that is the one that they'll put on the fictional dvd player it's the thing people used to use to play videos when when i wasn't actually that young um and rob hasn't actually got one yet to show to the racing drivers school but that is how you work your way through traffic because that was immense now look the modular nsx he's really struggling now there are the two toms supras who are a little way down the order in gt 500 they're ganging up now on that honda and working their way through that same fair traffic i'd oh [Music] is that a bit of body work that's just falling off oh well i can see why they want to say that um well that is i can't i don't know which car that's fallen off [Music] sam i can't believe you can't identify that from six and a half thousand miles away on a very small monitor you're losing it i think i think it might be front but the front end of a lexus gt3 car but i'm not entirely sure so that piece of bodywork is lying plum in the middle of the road there just before the 130r so yeah a hugely quick part of the circuit as we see the cars by even at reduced speed under double-waved yellows here they're going to have to be very very careful of it as we see ronnie quintarelli there in the red motec multimodal or tech sponsored um nissan coming through yeah it doesn't seem a little captured there pick close sam yeah it doesn't run my tech it runs uh bosch electronics i think on these guys um crucially that bit of body work is just after that rest on the back stretch or as they call it in the west stretches it's called it's azuka so the drivers won't see it until almost they're hitting it as you'll see and that's why you're seeing them all drinking lasting ah well there's the answer jan martin bro has decided to give himself some air conditioning the front end of the realized gt-r is missing and i wonder if that's finger trouble or contact trouble well if you want to know what a gt500 nissan looks like underneath the bonnet there you go it shows you just how low the engine sits in the chassis there we're going to see yan i was going to say we're going to see yam pip but of course the pit is closed so martin were forced to continue and another lap if they heavily compromised nissan just trying to look and see if there's anything structural there to see if they could refit a replacement bonnet too sam well if you look at the front splitter and the front body work there of the modern brush car it's got no damage on whatsoever so it looks like the body panel may have just come off all of its own accord which is that isn't actually the first time we've seen that at suzuka this weekend the hoppy porsche in gt 300 in qualifying had its bonnet come up and hit the driver's windscreen and uh well it looks like something similar may have happened to young marble i'm not sure if we're going to get a replay or not i do quite like seeing cars running around about bodywork on reminds me of my late stages of a nascar race there it is yeah the entire front front panel has come away from that number 24 car coming soon to an internet auction base i don't stamp on it i'd quite like that on my wall actually that'd be quite cool yeah very mad max style looking car that martin is driving around blimey he's going to be grumpy when he gets back for this all right there's some there'll be some choice words coming out in welsh i think [Music] i think martin is wales his number one race driver as well isn't he i'd like to think so james james collado lives there but i don't think he actually sort of waves the flag as hard as jan does i don't think james collado as well i'll put that out there um so you there are some superb drivers superb cars racing this time but as the this third portion period is continuing the body work is moving off the threat so i think we will see the cars lined up on the starting grid shuffled back into order and then we were back to green flag racing but is anybody going to stop for tires this is going to help anybody though in gt300 particularly who's trying to go for a zero higher traffic but let's have a look look at the top of your screen look for janna marda he's out of camera so we're just watching this battle for the lead again ah now these replays tend to mean that there's a morally hazardous moment being issues and i want to remember remember he gave the place back though very very quickly some before they were out of the first sector he gave it back so here we go this was this was kinterelli in the suburban terminarelli makes his move ah that was such a big moment i would love to see the onboard of that from both cars but look at this the way he worked through the traffic i mean rob that's not easy no and it's so narrow i remember the first time i did a track walk up around here i was like oh it's like autumn park in cheshire it is it's it's so narrow and kinterelli they're making his move look at the body language of the modulo car he just goes backwards through the traffic i don't think the car is damaged i think he's damaged he gets done for the lead round the outside of the dunlop curve and then just reverses back through the pack as we said at the time p1 to p7 this is i like the way it said vtr at the top of the screen it made me think back to my days as a citroen mechanic earning money so i could go racing at the weekends and uh oh yes the etr the eight valve version not the vts the 16 valve sound exactly and then there was the east coast and the west coast uh which had the different trim packages that's how i earned money to go racing fiestas at the weekend um a long time a very long time ago very past that garage a few few weeks ago and it doesn't exist anymore which is possibly because of the world's worst mechanic working there me um so what you're seeing now is how super gt sorts out its two classes they get the cars into the correct order stop one fit one class on the left of the bridge you see the gt300 car stopped not quite in order actually the prius [Music] the pits remaining closed as the gt500s are separated from the 300s there so he's still going round um that might not ruin his strategy too badly actually because uh there is your race leader the prius at the top of the screen so they're gonna have to release all of those gt 300 cars in a minute and let them go to let that free us catch up to the back of them there's ronnie kinterelli the gt500 leader being brought to a start and that's why they're waving by these gt 300 cars it couldn't it might not affect martin bridge strategy too badly because we are in the pit window and so you could come in have a slightly longer than normal pit stop and then get back underway with the second driver and a set of new tires so it may not hurt the race too badly because the safety car came out so quickly yeah not wishing to be a harbinger of doom i'm just thinking about loom damage on martin briscoe you rightly and very clearly spotted the wiring loom dangling down the left-hand side of the car and that's going to have been yanked really really hard we know that the race organizers are very very keen on making sure that the car's lights do work if indeed they're not turned on all the time but the the the drivers uh sorry the cars do need their lights to be functioning so yeah it might be suffering a little bit of electrical damage there yellow lights with gt 300 cars there's some yellow lights and white lights for gt 500 cars there is your gt300 running order it's right prius on top yes that's right there is a toyota prius leading above to under nsx nissan gtr in a toyota supra and alexis rcs first of the first european car is uh is right down in eighth position it's the audi r8 and there's only two european names in the top top ten in gt300 which is uh relatively unusual actually and uh well mario so we're hearing that maori salas is watching super gt for the first time this season welcome and uh he's in paraguay and it's the craziest category you've ever seen well yes it's brilliant racing so um if he's in paraguay where's the rest of you let us know where the rest of you are around the world and be interesting for us to find out and if you're in the u.s tell us your state and your town and if you're in the uk tell us your town at least i'll start kitchen england cool there you go hitching hertfordshire someone's doing well [Music] this itching is what it rhymes with so ladies and gentlemen there's a little picture into sam collins he's sitting in his library in hertfordshire i am indeed we have books where do you live rob you don't have books down there do you know so i'm i'm in my man cave in uh on the north coast of cornwall i'm very lucky living a lovely part of world like sam does if you're watching abroad and you were unfamiliar with the united kingdom cornwall is quite rural nice surfing destination and hertfordshire's a leafy suburb of um the commuter belt outside london thank you that's a suburb it's a destination so safety car coming round into through turn 10 into turn 11. kintarelli lead super gt there said it for the second time i i i i'm watching this and i this is the longest i've ever not been to japan as long as i've not been to japan for at least 15 years and i'm looking at the cars as they go through matchy corner there at suzuka corner name you don't find on maps for that is what the locals called it and i really miss being down in that town you see in the background shiroko there's a really nice izakaya that i like going to with some very close people during the japanese grand prix and at some other races as well and i really miss some of the food and good times and conversations we have there and i'm looking forward to getting back no japanese grand prix this year unfortunately but i am gagging to get back to japan and try some of that lovely lovely food okay sam here we go this is pit stops imminent drivers are ready teams are ready and as you suggested earlier we are going to see a herd of cars migrate to the pits this is going to really mix the race up and of course there's going to be cars coming out on cold tires how many cars that many cars look at them all in the pits they're ready to receive this is going to be like what we see at dover later on in in nascar in the nascar race you're going to see you know yellow comes out at the right moment and the entire field is going to peel in to the pits but keep an eye on the cars that stay out trying to get track position just like nascar there's going to be a few cars we expect that don't come and take tires and they may just come in for fuel later in the race so let's see if anybody tries to go with a no tire strategy or a fuel only pit stop to get track position it's going to be very very interesting these safety cars are certainly hurting that's right helping their strategy so far none of the front runners in no they're all hoping to capitalize on clean running the pits are open so looking in the background for the gt 300 seeing which of those runners are coming in i'm trying to look sam to see who is weaving their tires the least enthusiastically because that would be the body language of somebody coming into the pits if you were just about to take off the tyres and weren't planning on using them in anger you wouldn't really be reheating them too much looking for the lights to go out on the super safety car i i would imagine he's going to be in at the end of this lap this is an interesting strategy call for these guys not coming into the pits and yes he is going to come in at the end of this lap i think uh they're opting not to come in for fuel and tires so hobby porsche though has opted to come in with fuel and tires poppy is what i tend to drink in that uh it's high in scirocco and i like it quite a lot um it's it's going to be very interesting because if you're making your stop you don't make your stop at this time you think these guys are going to expect them in the next eight laps into the pits for fuel and driver change anyway so some really big dice being rolled here in gt 500 i think [Music] just looking at the hoppy pit stop they're doing all four tyres sam the fronts were changed first the rears have been done well you would because you're under safety car you may as well yeah um you might as well get hold of the fuel no driver change yeah i'm really surprised no good point no driver change yeah yeah sato inside no driver change furious strategy lots of strategy i think i'm possibly not seeing the bigger picture here but [Music] uh yeah it could have been but still at this point in the race probably want to make that fuel and driver change yeah looking at the laptop 22 down 30 to go it would be the perfect time to do it now the light's still on on the safety car which has been out for an awfully long time um i'm not sure why it's still out actually the lights should go out sometime towards the end of the second sector which we're coming to now and they added lights out great okay are ronnie can't really backing up the field or not well backing up one of the fields the raping nsx he's playing cat and mouse here and that doesn't always go too well does it is he playing foe cat and mouse is this a big fake from ronnie is he going to try and capitalize on clean track ahead of him or is he going to dive to the pits to hand over to his teammate oh no that that's that's an interesting queen could he do that and much around him [Music] remember he is he is old and wily as as we are so no ken torelli takes the break coming into 130 r gets his toe down he's going to have a clean run through and he has he's he's dropped the uh the terrible restart from the zenfone car in third absolutely terrible restart i don't know what the zen car was doing he was napping all the way from spoon corner so you now have a battle for two for the lead ronnie stays out for the zen car look nowhere to be seen coming out of the final corner and he's pitted he must have fitted yes absolutely he must have done [Music] uh no front body work he's just carrying on there is that massive dive for the bits for all of the front running or the rest of the front running gt500 cars now let's see he's going to be first off pit roads now the race leading three is fitted as well we didn't see that oh there's chaos in the pits so the prius is in for driver change as is the green brake gl slipper the sensor room oh for the zen car is oh there is unhappiness in the zenfit there yeah i'm not sure what that was about no look at pit road sam all those cars gonna be coming out on cold tires as you rightly said earlier if you're watching super gt for the first time no tyre warmers so there we see the whiteness and gtr leaving the pits the gt500 he's the first car to complete the stop the zen team ah trouble for the zen car so maybe he got stuck on hit limiter or something that's why he lost so much time on the restart he's going into the garage [Music] now look at all these guys coming out in traffic crucially look at the lotus evora just on the tail of the previously race leading toyota prius the fruits either had a very bad i think the prius must have had a really bad pit stop there because these cars the hatsune miku this is all down this these guys were found 12-13 but then look as well at the uh green brave surprise that's also lost a lot of positions in time well well well and uh as the prius takes back onto the track very gingerly on those coals tires no tyre warmers everything uh rental karting it's when you get the new car on and that it just doesn't stick hatsune miku trying to go around the outside of the lotus as they tippy toe round on ice that's what it feels like and the prius is now getting up yeah yeah just saying hatsune miku made that work and um yeah he's really getting the tyres up to temperature the lexus makes the move on the lotus as well so uh the 100 rave rig into the pits for their pit stop fuel tyres and driver change whilst the fuel is going in the mechanics just get ready to change the tires the two can't be done at the same time so they've done the rears fuel is going in driver change is completed there's um mardi gras car doing a driver and body work change sam yeah that's a that's a non-standard pit stop that's going to cost five but as i say probably look at her faces the bravery nsx gets back on track on the same reference the cahin car which is losing time to the ravery car that's important um quite a lot of time being lost there and yeah they were nose to tail weren't they for the first uh first part of the race as we see two more hondas battling through the chicane yeah and that is a crucial battle because that is a car that's battling for the lead the arta nsx now down in 10 bit stocks but that is the car that was previously leading and has suffered ever since losing that leads to ronnie cantorelli and i think you're right the driver just psychologically lost it a bit all the cars handling has gone off because that's uh orange arthur nsx now making a good run away from the front of his similar honda stable and here's the race leader in ronnie cantorelli it should be a routine stop for the nissan gtr and the wacos team rookie supra will take the leads ah no the denso supra will take the lead because the wacos rookie car has come in as well so heiki kovalen leads his return at super gt race so it's a it should be a super one two three at the front of the race but they're all due in through rookie car relatively routine stop still no idea what happened to the zen car hasn't converged back out from the garage ripple nsx never got going again either now the number 23 nissan rejoins the race where will he come back out on track now remember he's on cold fires and as you look back down at the field where is the ray brick nsx that's the car you're looking for the blue honda it looks like ronnie cantorelli's coming back out of the pits well in front of him there he is but remember that blue honda at the top of your screen there he is he's on hot pliers and he's still trying to get a bit of temperature into them as he weaves down the straight but he will quickly catch up to the backbone that is out there now driven by matsuda they're going to be coming into gt 300 that line of gt 300 cars that we were watching coming past the pits when matsuda was rejoining from his stop and yeah the raybury car pushing hard on tires that are a a lap warmer than the um or tech card this one here thank you very much that's coming down into turn nine now rob you describe what's going on i'm just having a quick look back at the free plays to see if anybody's tried anything funny on the fire strategies yeah sorry sam i i kind of went quiet at the pit stop i had my pen and piece of paper trying to note down who was doing what i didn't know oh yeah because i was i was just looking and it tended to be front tires fuel rear tires hit torelli suffering a little bit the heat there it is very very warm and humid here today at suzuka his teammate matsuda getting up to speed and it's about a five-second deficit between matsuda and yamamoto yamamoto is an animal round here um 2018 pre-season testing he was the quickest driver out there by quite some time and i remember benson john uh describing him as being extremely capable around here as we see covalent's teammate rejoining as well well you know who else said he was capable around here the torah rosso formula one team he did free practice one on the run up to the japanese grand prix last year another world-class driver in uh super gt jensen button referred to naoki yamamoto as the dude [Music] there we go that's high praise indeed from through here we see the uh au tom's car having to go defensive into turn one put under a lot of pressure there by the modulo nsx this is the battle for seventh [Music] currently leading this race overall is nick cassidy the kiwi driver in the tom's gt 500 car he needs to make a pit stop though so it won't stay that way for long there is the previous race leader in gt 300 the 55 arta nsx coming back out on track it's incredibly unusual sound that we get to half distance and we haven't mentioned cassidy you know he's always in the mix he's always pushing hard and i can't help but think that that perhaps is a little bit um due to the success ballast that he's been carrying some strong results in the first two races meant that his car was running heavy today it was his birthday the other day and um well his birthday present from the team let's pull him into the pits he's just coming in now we'll see a minute i guess on our screens uh to come into that fuel and tires now in gt 300 the reason we're watching the battle for 20th 21st and 22nd is look there's the toyota prius that was leading at the race just ahead of absolutely and the lotus there's cassidy's pit stop he's getting out of the car slowly and we'll be handing over to his teammate or he's handed over to his teammate indeed we've just seen cassidy gone and the uh the wedsport bando car is also in with its nutty yellow wheels with wheel manufacturer and they just lost the position in the bits they're gonna try and race off bit load but no the tom's team lose out to racing project bando just on position now there's the moto or gtr still some distance ahead of the ray brig nsx that's good for them in at gt 300 as the pits cycle out uh my timing screen posted wonderful i'll come back to you just hit refresh on the timing screen i've been having the same issue sam but yeah here we see the cars coming out the pits on cold tires and that's the difference that coal towers make look the um wacos car right round the outside the white uh craft nissan coming through um i'd love to tell you the driver but my timing screen and as sams has done has crashed uh a huge difference in corner speed between warm slicks and cold slicks the drivers coming out the pits very heavily compromised and compromised too by the traffic as well well um i try to work out who's leading in reality in gt300 the timing screen tells me it's a j-lock lamborghini i don't really believe that so we'll see how that pans out anyway let's look at this action on track as uh hirokawa in the supra there is there is tom suffering is trying to hold off the cayenne nsx for ninth position and that battle isn't going to end any time soon no it's uh katsumatsuchio in the whiteness and as well the little caption popped up on the screen so yeah giosan in there well it's great to have so many of you hunted relentlessly now by the number 100 team kunamitsu ray brick nsx and that that's all it's going to kick off there's some way off from a group of the gt 300 back markers and it'll probably take them a couple of laps to reach them but when they do that is going to be a fuel between two of the finest drivers yeah absolutely um i forgot to mention in our pre-race chats you know i've mentioned it since the yamamoto is a bit of an animal around here he's very very quick everywhere but particularly special around corners like that one the 130r here at suzuka and yeah closing down matt sooner ahead but this is by no means and then audi in the and in gravel [Music] position in the esses again we could be looking at yet another safety car well as annoying as the safety cars are sound what that does is bunch the field back together so yeah we see the lexus and the audi very racy running right the way round turns one and two together [Music] i mean that's good racing banging wheels but that was a little bit predictable and there's a lot of moral hazards going on there yeah i mean i think that both hasn't that's enough oh he's well beat properly beached oh head in the hands as well let's see what the race organizers can do about this what are they going to try and eat that's tracked up will they have the safety car yellow waving and the safety cars coming up yeah i'm i'm not i graphic on your screen it's the final fix dot the most recent pit stops of the cars in gt 300 and look the max aircon the number five gt86 that's one of those mother chassis cars has got up to lead the gt300 class on the road not including those cars that haven't yet stopped but they're all going to lose track position and the jaylon huracan and the gtr they both stopped out of sequence but almost certainly need to stop again that's why they're not right as you rightly said sam the nissan sorry the nissan the toyota prius that we're looking at as the audi rejoins has lost an awful lot of positions he's gone from what was a class-leading position he's lost about 10 places in the pit stop cycle as we look at how the audi ended up in the gravel again it's quite a bad tempered battle this actually between those two little grumpy didn't there yeah particularly such a happy paint job yeah i i can't really blame the lexus for that he doesn't really have anywhere else to go no it was just a bit rubbish wasn't it a bit rubbish but yeah the the audi doing a good job of spreading gravel all over the road as he makes his way back to the pits well as ronnie cantorelli looks on at his screen positions ah now i don't think that but they probably will need to shuttle the field out again under the safety card i mean that the position of that indonesian sponsor j-lot lamborghini in that orange amg gt makes it clear that they will have to stop the cars from start finish line to shuffle the order as we saw earlier on in the race but once they've done that we will be back to three flag running so i think that'll happen imminently and we're going to be on for some good racing now this is a car with 75 kilos of ballast on won the opening round its first ever race the uh jaff gt 300 saitama toyo pet gr supra gt300 leading the championship indeed one one point of well points one point equals two kilos of ballast and there's your pit stop times the j-lock huracan 39.3 it looks like j-lock on the 88 car have tried to go without tires as has the hoppy 911 the maxi acre and mc-86 as well i'd say that stopped gone without tires and everybody else has either done two or four tires remember remember we saw the hoppy 911 take tyres at a stand-alone stop they didn't change drivers and change tires at the same time they're the only car that's done two stops so they took tyres first of all then took a driver chain so maybe they did have a slow puncture early doors it seems to be working out for them though in gt 300 the hobby car has moved up the order [Music] i tell you where the timing screen won't let me it's uh it's about just outside the top the hoppy porsche but keep an eye on it good move up leading gt 300 is the number 34 modulo drago corset nsx ahead of the teddy bear bmw and the x works audi surprisingly har hi and that 88 j lock lamborghini has moved up to fourth in class comment on the chat chat from pyle driver media group you can come again love the until a few years later i got out of japan to see the cars for real and i've been addicted ever since brilliant racing out there in japan and i love the the freedom of engineering and the free spirit of racing that is in japan and that's that leads you to cars like this gt net sponsored mac 5 gt86 if it's carbon fiber monocoque chassis that v8 engine lots of talk that gta the promoters of super gt are going to introduce an updated mother chassis next year or the season after with a new engine and some new models coming to the series don't know too many details about that but they will have some more as we see the the field shuffling going on it's the gt300s back markers get out the way the gt500 cars are pretty much in order i think and there is the race leader in gt300 coming to take mine token ride if you can pop your hat on and just sit in the corner for a moment please is this brand's hatch no what is that what does that say about the start finish line it says cadwell park doesn't it no it doesn't it says suzuka it's similar to bran's hatch actually i'll sit in the corner myself it's similar it's old there's massive changes of gradient this is not unique but it's very unusual it's a rare figure of eight track it was first opened in uh 1962 as a test track it's owned by honda and the the first thousand kilometer gt race here was in 1966. things have moved on significantly then but the circuit is owned by the makers of that vehicle the garage honda i think we needed a longer shot of that i don't know if he was stopping on the grid yeah he was stopping on the grid for the uh well the traffic jam gt300 traffic jam there's a teddy bear bmw we haven't spoken much about that the team study it's not really a teddy bear car anymore because it hasn't got the stiff sponsorship on it it's now just the black bmw and gt300 has got a very 32 laps on the board gt300 has taken on a very different complexion to the first half of the race with the most of the front runners in that class look at that i mean look at the field progression the j-lock hurricane up 22 positions ava rate 20 positions up i can't see that class ending the way it is now i think there's a lot more to come there there's some fast cars out of position and we're really going to see some staggeringly good racing in that category and we're also going to see the last handful of gt3 runners sorry gt 300 runners box for their mandatory stop for driver change and rejoining on coal tires which is going to be another element in the mix when this battle rejoins remember that's matsuda from yamamoto so um linos says on the chats someone explain what's going on some really good motor racing and that supra the safety supra is just disappearing off and we're about to go back to green flag racing tsukiyo matsuda leads the field over naoki yamamoto it's the red nissan versus the blue honda then you've got the white sad super behind them then another it's the orange arter auto backs honda one of the tom's cars or the au toms supra followed by the drago modulo honda and some other gt500 cars each of them kicking out 650 plus brake horsepower from a four-cylinder turbo charged engine with direct injection and the safety cars taking its sweet time to turn its lights off yeah no the safety car would have turned its lights off by now if it were coming in the pit sam it's going to continue for another lap i can't think why they've left him out for this extra lap maybe there's some debris being cleared from somewhere but yeah lights still on as he makes his way through well i don't know what that's about he but i think i think ronnie i think sorry matsuda expected him to come in the pits he started backing off yeah yeah okay lights lights still on as he comes down the front straight circuits looks clear from our perspective oh we know the second it's clear the the the audi drove out of the gravel trap a while ago oh well um you know mx5 asks is jan the man still a gamer yes he is he has a gaming rig in his bedroom don't ask how i know what it looks like inside his bedroom uh waifu wars racing uh welcome to the channel great to have you on board [Music] so the supra safety car continues with his lights on leads the field through turn two entering the s's behind the pits the section of circuit known as the snake see the drivers accelerating and braking accelerating the braking hard to get temperature into the brakes that's then transposed into the wheels and keeps the tyres warm as a consequence so a little bit of movement from side to side from the drivers will keep the top of the tyre warm but accelerating and braking keeps the carcass of the tyre warm these tires designed to work at about 75 degrees celsius anything less than that and yeah the grip gets a little bit less predictable but when they're warm when they're hot they develop a lot more grip than a standard road tire a lot more grip just had a message from a new viewer to the channel people durrani watching in the usa as angelo angelo lazarate and brat both joined the channel welcome to the channel freddie barry asked great question in the chat as well do the gt3s in gt300 use the srobop claude samont from the s from sro do do the bop for gt300 but it's a separate gt 300 pacific vop which is very different to what you see in other series because there's a tyre war in gt300 and also you've got the chaff gt 300 cars of the mother chassis cars where technical development is allowed the lights are still on on the safety surfa i think they might go off in about five seconds using my crystal ball this is where they went off last time come on don't make me look a fool there we go thank you very much lights out and please don't make a comment you look a fool anyway but there we go lights out on the safety car matsuda backs the field up and let's see what uh yamamoto can do in second at the restart now we've seen a running torelli restart we haven't seen a tsukiyo matsuda restart yet and it seems to be a little bit different strategy lots of weaving going slow ronnie had accelerated by this point and there goes sego [Music] oh it looks like some guys are already battling back down on the run into 130r i saw the wacos team rookie car getting a little bit racy not sure they're allowed to get racing at that point but nonetheless he tried it not a bad start from sugar yamamoto not close enough to make a move into turn one that honda looks particularly slippery in a straight line against the nissan remember when kinterelli was driving the nissan had great mechanical grip through the first sector but wasn't the quickest in a straight line as the modulo car picks up a place from the uh wacos car no i think that's the wacos car trying to get back past the modulo car and they're really going at it they've been going at it before before even the green flag comes out show suboy at the wheel of the waco supra he'll be in action next week in super formula as well and he is one of the real young talents coming up each fan trying to go around the outside didn't quite get that work he's still gonna try he's gonna have to go into the deadness i think they're looking back into gt 300 that race has got back going and there is the battle for fifth well fourth actually with the gainer 10x gtr number 11 former champions in gt300 trying to get the job done on the mac five mother chassis car which seems to be taking its sweet time and getting back up to speed don't worry about that red audi in front of them that's out of position and that's allowed for the actually the front runners of gt300 to set off onto their own actually gt300 is a bit of a mess eric young in the usa vfx thanks for joining us i hope you're enjoying it don't forget versus miku versus prius prius wins out there's a phrase you don't say often announce the move nissan gtr's looking particularly racing there racy there we see the gainer tan x got move up against the maxi aching cut and the realized gt3 behind as well remember these nissans again enjoying a little bit more turbo boost this weekend and it's definitely making a difference on the run down to the 130r straight line spin advantage there as he moves up into third jp oliveira there up into the final podium position of gt 300. well oh we're pushing onto the grass into the chicane that was um well that was about as aggressive as aggressive defending gets isn't it um i'm not entirely sure that was morally hazardous yeah no i think that was just a bit rubbish rather than morally hazardous but yeah the uh max aiken car now having to defend from that arter gt3 specification honda that was very quick here very quick and warm up in fact this morning we knew this was going to happen we knew gt300 was in a bit of a funny order and it really is now proving that it was but because now we're trying to shuffle the back in position there is the previous class leader in for a stop again looking out a sequence so that's bad news for the modulo car they're falling down the order our um our regular welsh viewer young martin has tuned in to the channel so he's he's been messaged me messaging me on twitter and um i think he's been in better moods bless grumpy and matsuda flashing lights he comes down into the 130r yamamoto exactly a second behind him so a stalemate at the moment sam [Music] absolutely it is at the moment but wait for the wait for them to encounter peace it's i was about to i was about to wait for them to find the gt300 battle there it is and you'll see under the bridge it's not too long until those gt500 cars would start to encounter these guys and have to work their way through and that's when you'll see the gt500 frontrunners start concentrating up again and having to battle their way through what looks like some of the worst traffic i've encountered this side of dartmouth yeah ken torelli really showed his experience when he uh encountered the traffic and matsuda his teammate equally as wiley so the maxi aching car being put under a huge amount of pressure from the up garage nsx as they come through the 130 are down into the chicane from the highest speed corner to one of the lower speed sections the leon mercedes coming through there as well completing another lap here at suzuka [Music] two thirds distance i'm watching the gt300 i was looking at our timing screen then i'm watching with great interest oh and that is not how you make a pass at their hairpin as the arta nsx does something incredibly morally hazardous to the back of the sad supra and decides to start doing curling rather than motor racing yeah i'm sure we'll see a replay of that as they um [Music] through yeah i just noticed his headlight was out and yeah big damage on the front of the arter [Music] that's not damaged on the front of the arm well there's a bit of his damage on the front of the arter gt500 but he's also not going to be able to deny it because that's the rear lick box from the supra wedged in the front of the honda i think the team style want that back yeah here we see the incident again and yeah if anything if if anything is morally hazardous sound that's it and katie kovalein will be cheesed off he wasn't those weren't his happy eyes were they no [Music] oh and that was very close into the first corner as the modulo gt300 modulo nsx turned in on one of the gt500 nsx's and that's what you've always got to look out for in super gt as baker kc joins welcome and there is the damaged number eight car well that's out of any serious contention in this race uh you'll have to oh it's fully wedged in though they'll have to go and give that back to the team saad guys and uh steam at the front there the radiators down at the front is there any liquid it doesn't look like it looks like it survived bit of bondo being on the front they've run out of tape for that bit uh oh no oh no there you go it's bleeding yeah that that car is pretty much done yeah yes skates is that it is yeah that's trouble for the gt300 uh well he's one of the he's running the back five car was running quite high up the gt300 is that a puncture why is this car in the pits you were not expecting this car to the bits [Music] but there's the gt300 battle he's escaped from now keep an eye on the car that's fourth in that line of cars the toyota prius that was the that was the pole sitting car and was dominating the first part first part of the race lost time in the pits and it's now working his way back through the field i think you're gonna see some fireworks shortly there yeah the gt300s never failed to deliver and there we see five the hoppy 911 with that curious double stop strategy that as you rightly say sam has worked for them leading the subaru brz but yeah great battle here in gt 300 as they come through turn 10 into the happy oh and there's a lamborghini with a puncture we've said that before i mean we actually predicted this but look at this battle in gt300 we predicted that that lamborghini was going to go go and do it with no stops and they said before the race that because of the nature of the car if they go with no stops they can get punctures and sure enough they've done it again i mean that's a terrible strategic decision but what wasn't a terrible strategic decision was quebec creator 87 for signing up to the channel thank you and brady ritchie um those weren't that was not a terrible statistic decision for signing up to uh the race here on youtube you're watching round three suzuka 300 and yeah he's going to be able to be very very careful cutting across the traffic there as he limps back to the pits the cars coming out of the 130 are there almost v-max so he's going to have to be really careful making his way from drivers left back into pit road as the hoppy a hoppy 86 i'm living in the past the hoppy nine eleven uh looks racy coming down into turn one that team has recently their big change for this season is to it's a data logger to the car which is a bit of a surprise because they come with one as standard but uh the team who run that car weren't that keen on data engineering and decided to employ a data engineer this year and try and go faster hasn't really worked so looking at the front of the gt300 battle the gainer gtr leads from the realized gtr and the arta nsx that's your top three and that's what we're looking at on the screen now and you can see jp oliveira they're being put under a lot of pressure by the art of nsx as he tries to bust a move on hironaka they're about three and a half seconds ahead of that other battle that we were watching that's a little bit further back with the prius working its way up from eighth but moving forward satunibiku is in that that squabble as well now with thirteen laps to go it's all to play for rainbow cantini is going to be working that welcome armando has said it's been ages since they watched one great stuff and dover the monster mile in nascar as well i'll be tuned in for that they're having a they're having a really good look at the front you mentioned it was coming into the pits relatively slowly are they going to slide under the skates no they're just having a look at the front suspension anyway their race is done essentially they're not competitive even if they get back out on track team at mac not fighting it but it's a nissan one two in gt 300 hironaka from olivier and in the utter nsx in third that battle calm down for a minute but there's fourth fifth no that's not fifth there's the rest of them that is battle that's chasing them down and with a gt500 car in the middle of [Music] yeah the recovering cal sonic car he says question mark yes the recovering cal sonic car three laps down though and it looks like jano truly is at the wheel of that poppy 86 because he's got quite a train of cars forming behind left by the lotus hatsune miku that morally has this lexus did something nearly morally hazardous going into spoon there running up quite aggressively against that other gtr there is your running order in gt 300s the upgrade nsx in fourth position the supra is in this leon up to silly on mercedes i think then there's yes just got past the hoppy 911 out of our screen uh keep an eye on that that's going to be moving his way forward on the back of that leon mercedes which is just out the bottom of our screen there because we're watching this battle for eighth position the cynthia blatant is trying to get massage she's having a very quiet season uh so far this year it's a bit of surprise but as the success ballast comes and goes that's where we see the ebb flow of performance but you're right the hoppy porsche looking like the driver of a train at the moment and the lotus behind can he make that i was just gonna say can he make it stick to the technical stuff he does straight away down the inside in between turn one and turn two [Music] the lotus will be slightly more nimble through the snake so he will pull away from the porsche behind porsche looking to looking uh like it's struggling now on its tyres the amg of patsune miko putting him under a huge amount of pressure as well i mean i love these paddles through the uh through the field in bt 300 it's absolutely it's just where it's at isn't it i mean this is why i know miku goes around the outside of the hoppy porsche and that lexus is going to get the hockey portion now that that poppy car just isn't working isn't it they haven't got their head around that that porsche the way they had found the uh gt86 previously and the lexus then gets really quite rudely dusted by the gtr which has really got that track position sorted but keep an eye because alexis isn't happy with that nissan sneaking through the gt300 specification nissan gtrs look good down they sam they look strong yeah and look wheel to wheel into the left-hander the nissan gets through the lexus will be the next one past the aston martin gets rid of but here comes the race leader into this mess of cars let's see if he loses any time out to the k to the rape nsx so two seconds difference the question is can yamamoto there in the blue car on the right of the pitcher get past this lot before the 130 odd no he can't so clean air for the first time between our race leader matsuda and yamamoto behind so that was that's gone from a two second gap to about a three and a half second gap in just two corners and the rape against egg still isn't past the hoppy porsche that is a very wide 911 as the lexus dives to the pits i don't know if that was the tires or damage um that is not so con so ronnie conterelli and suga matsuda at the wheel of the motordoortec gtr really got lucky with the traffic there but look at the gap they've both got over the third place uh gt 500 car that is pretty they've it's they've opened up pretty well actually i've been checking out yeah they've they've gapped the field back to sort of fourth but then from fourth fifth sixth seventh eighth and ninth in gt 500 which is the battle we're looking at here this is still pretty much nose to tail and if one gt300 car makes a wrong move in traffic again that's gonna mix the field right up show suboy there in the blue car he only knows one speed doesn't he blattel and you'll see that next week on the of the second part of spoon there there's at the aston martin we haven't seen that car today have we no but this is going to be troublesome into the chicane look there's still quite a lot of gt 300 traffic there and those two supers together look the right rear flick box is missing from the white super and those cars are all in the wrong place the team matt carl's going right away and there's a big hit from that lexus he's got off that's going to bring out a safety car surely there's barriers all over the track the team matt guard just didn't look in his mirrors so we're going to replace the replay of that but there was there's going to be a lot of debris on the run down into the chicane there but yeah all cut all cl caused by the closing speed of the gt 500s on the back of the gt300s and a couple of drivers not looking in their mirrors that's actually one of the wider places around here at suzuka it is indeed i've done a track walk around suzuka with uh alpha tara a press officer uh he had a broken ankle at the time and i managed to walk around nearly as quick as he ran around but nonetheless uh it's very very narrow and that's what really strikes you when you code this is super for the first time sergio connell did last year for the suzuka thousand kilometers great race that was it's a it's a combined gt300 gt3 race that and uh hopefully that will run next season and hopefully we get it here on the iphone race dot com as well the conversations are ongoing but this is the battle for the lead in gt300 these two nissans just the heads of that honda and there is the race leading nissan in gt500s tsugyo matsuda really just opening up the gap it's going very well for the moto ortek gtr at the moment no replay so far no replay so far of that last uh chicane moment and i'm quite surprised we haven't got a some sort of caution for half the barrier being critical [Music] yeah just looking as they come out the corner as well the lexus with the rear damage did continue he didn't get across to take pit road so looking for any sort of potential bodywork damage but that's the story of the day nissan this and this leading gt 500 and then leading and second place in gt 300 there's yamamoto in the blue nsx second in gt 500 but nine laps to go it doesn't look like yamamoto's got much of an answer for the motor gtl which is something of a surprise but i have to say sukiyo matsuda is pumping in the laps right now and that gap at the head of the field just getting bigger and bigger and bigger up to three point six seconds now yes matsuda is really putting in significantly faster laps than anybody else in the gt500 category at the moment those michelin tires on the nissan working well only two michelin shotguns in a gt500 and they're both nissan gtr's once red one's white [Music] i can't believe those nissan 300s didn't get out of the way of the honda a little quicker sam i know i mean i can't imagine why they made it difficult for the honda yeah who'd have thought this is a very good showing from nissan of course at the home of honda the hondas were very very fast in pre-season testing uh they were very very fast at the last round at fuji and yeah nissan seemed to have found something yeah i think honda are going to be really disappointed by this because i think coming into suzuka of course one of their two home tracks the other being mategui where superformant kicks off next week is um it's a little bit of a an honor thing for honda there's a honda production car factory just over the hill from the top of the track and a lot of normally a lot of the employees would come to the track to watch super gt sadly no spectators here this weekend uh we hope to see spectators back before the end of the season but japan playing things very closely as the k tunes lexus comes in with rear end damage from that moment at the chicane i suspect that the rear wing is in a curious position on that car i'd say it's a truvial angle i had the ray brig nsx down as my pre-race favorite so yeah to see the redness i'm pulling away at the head of the field is well surprise for me absolutely for me as well it's all gone it's not really the midfield is it it's kind of the pointy end just behind the this hands yeah i mean we're not seeing some of the the battles that have gone on but obviously the lotus got past the poppy porsche and it's now off having this private battle mother chassis vs gt300 with the toyota prius which is interesting the career seems to have lost pace with his second driver i think it's koki sagar at the wheel um struggling for that pace but here you go you've got the subaru as well battling with the leon amg mercedes and uh stephanie's trying to get work to mix there as well are the ex-work stars just getting in everybody's way and just behind them actually are the prius and lotus so they're not too far back from this this would be a good showing for the prius because actually because the prius hasn't had the best season so far they could be ones to watch for the next round of super gt which wonderfully isn't in all that long long amount of time [Music] i like all of this racing by week up weekend after weekend but every week is race week is brilliant well multiple races as well you know really good quality championships racing three weekends on one weekend off it's fantastic a lot of bang for your buck with motor racing now finally after what seems like a long cold winter weekend off i haven't had one of those since since the formula one season started i don't think i'm gonna get one until christmas [Music] oh this is great battling though two different rule sets the jaff gt 300 rule set ahead of the fia gt3 rule set balance of performance they're balancing the cars so they all race together but the cars still have very different abilities out on track and looking at these two battling i i don't think that the uh the bop guy claude tamon has got it too badly wrong here uh claude's right on the money right on the money traditionally suzuka suited the slightly more nimble aerodynamic advantage of the older style the more traditional style gt 300 cars but the the the performance of the fia gt3 cars really being held by a little bit less weight and a little bit more turbo boost cutting back to our race leader though matt souder as he comes out of spoon curve coming down towards the 130r clean air behind him sam look at that that's not three and a half seconds that's five and a half seconds now yeah he's walking away from the uh from yamamoto at the moment it's just he's making it look easy actually in the last lap he actually was slightly slower though than yamamoto so maybe yamamoto's tyres have got a little bit of life left in him and he might come back at him towards the end of the race meanwhile mark de anasio joe morgantini welcome and brat thank you you are very very welcome here on this channel there is your lap time comparison and the gap has come down ever so slightly you see on that previous lap so it may be that all is not over six laps to go though yamamoto is going to have to get on with it also he's doing a really good job yeah super job sorry sam just looking at the amount of success ballast on there sasha fenestraz was a little bit anonymous in the first part of the race but he's really got his toe down now and is pushing very very hard there in third but as that gap indicator on the right hand side of your screen shows he is losing time to the modulo nsx well he's losing time to the car in front of the modulo nsx could be a factor for him for the last place on the podium so it could be quite tricky those lap times 67 55 down into the 52s which is what you need to be doing but the lap times yamamoto are really picking up now he's taking a second out of tsukiyo matsuda on the pre on the last lap the traffic wasn't too kind to matsuda on the previous lap and uh yamamoto closing him down maybe it isn't done and dusted yet remember that the modulo nsx is another one running on an unusual tyre he's the only of our gt 500 runners on the dunlop and that dunlop seems to be doing quite nicely in the latter stages of the race well it's going to be interesting as these cars get out here's that battle for third position now in a gt 300 the arter nsx has now got on to terms with jp oliveira and i think that's the uh nissan's tyres reaching the end of their life because he's coming homing in on the back of him now remember for each of the points scored you get a key two kilos of ballast for the next race so if you've got 50 points on the in the championship you have 100 kilos of ballast and there's some fuel flow restrictions that come into play in gt500 as well but right now these cars in gt 300 that we're watching they can have a little bit of boost tweak as well either tweaked up or tweaked down for the turbo chargers and clausium on did adjust the car that we're looking at there the nissan gt-r this weekend gave them just a fraction more [Music] and uh well it seems to work as for those who are complaining that the gt 300 jeff mother chassis cars and the jeff gt300 cars were too whip their gt400s well doesn't look that way at the moment in gt300 does it not at all jp oliveira sort of covers the inside from one round into two the body language of the honda behind suggests that his tires are a little fresher that mid-engined gt 300 honda nsx looking really nice putting him under pressure coming through the stake sorry sam i think you're about to see a demonstration of jp is a hugely experienced driver and i think you're about to see a great demonstration of defensive driving and let's not forget jp isn't averse to getting a little bit aggressive yeah known for having his elbows out as and when he needs to coming into the second of the dagners hard on the brakes 90 degree right hander under the bridge jp slides a little wide that's going to compromise him through the kink now will he honda go the long way round at the hairpin no he looks to the inside jp oh wasn't it the key was that's classic jp hint that the doors open and just shut it at the last minute make it difficult but if all of this battling is bringing the up garage nsx into play as well that's the fourth position car the yellow car is just homing into the back of the 55 at the moment he could be the one to watch will make a last lap lunge on the exit of 130 r well four laps to go he might not wait that long no he's come from nowhere the gainer tanax cars checked out for the time being at the front of the gt 300 field but here we are when there were two now there were three yeah and jp is doing everything he can to hold on to that position his tyres are finished but look removed from the up garage car he's gonna have a think about going up the inside of the chain not this time you might try and do it into the first corner [Music] this is where jp oliveira looked a little vulnerable last time around he's got good straight line speed in that nissan but it didn't seem to quite have the mechanical grip of the hondas coming into this section here turns one and two super fast right hander into a slower right hander the honda cuts out wide can he get the cut back on the nissan no not yet is he gonna try in the deadness because that never ends well [Music] no there's not a lot of room there and it's a whopping great old-school gravel trap you sometimes see a few optimistic drivers trying it in there and i think the up garage car might have a go into the thickness you know he's got this if he stays close through these corners which he is doing that is an opportunity but it's a very hard pass to make work i have seen it done but usually it ends in the gravel as you say rob yeah olivier's tires are long gone looking at the nissan oh contact there into the gravel sam your crystal ball is working well my friend look at that old school gravel trap yeah that's exactly what i've done the the wins the the bonnet has flapped back on the 55 unfortunately it's not blocked his windscreen i think he's going to try and finish the race like that so hopefully that bit of bodywork flies off but if that does fly off in the wrong place three laps to go hopefully it doesn't bring out a safety car but look there's a subaru uh brz that's now on the back of the gtr that subaru's now coming into play and hunting down that podium position [Music] the up garage car must be laughing all the way to the sparkling sarcasm laughing all the way to the race leader he's now got clean air between him and the gainer tanax car question is sam with what will these guys have two and a half laps remaining can he make headway against it but jimmy oliveira we saw his tires with golf he was struggling for traction and yeah coming into the deadness as you so rightly said never ends well and often enter the gravel trap somewhere out on track there is a large lump of honda nsx and that honda has got damage because i can see fluids coming out from under the bodywork of that car and you've seen his windscreen wiper going that's not just the driver doing something accidentally if we see a close-up shot of the front of that honda you can see something looking rather hot underneath the bonnet of that car i think it's got a damaged radiator and of course yes there you go radiator's gone sam it's blown completely the question is now can he keep it on track and turns one and two or will he filling the steer off on his own fluid but he's spilling fluid all over the track and there's still cars racing on it he's realized he's got the problem and uh he's given up for the day i think that's not going to be a happy driver uh bad luck again for the art of car and yeah he's putting it has the radiator gone at the front there despite the car being mid engine and you're jp oliveira being pressured again coming into the dagners of course he's been out fluid all over his windscreen as well yeah coolant smears on like water will do and this is where he's got hunted last time sorry well these guys being sensible and not trying to pass in the deadness but next up is the hairpin how will jp defend against two cars now the lotus is coming to join the party as well battle for the final podium position is pretty hot and the super he's got the run-through match up trying to go around the outside of the nissan comes into our pictures doesn't quite get it done but he's got a great run into spoon now coming through the center of matcha there i saw the marshall holding the yellow and red stripe flag so for fluid or debris that could be where the lump of honda disposed itself just out of our picture and he didn't get it done through spoon but look at the draft he's got going down the west stretch the leon mercedes well got the double toe that we know the subaru doesn't have the best top speed the leon's probably got a better beat so he's not going to be able to get it done into 130 yards but we'll be able to stop it get up the inside into the champagne the subaru looks a little bit too far back for that he's going to give it a go anyway mega really good stuff from the subaru great lake great card just overcooked it locked up a little bit jp oliveira has managed to stretch away i say stretch away he's pulled what two and a half car lengths three car lengths they come off the front straight and the vrz now with his mirrors full of amg yeah i'll be i mean that's going to be a good vlog that's going to be a good on board to watch as well subaru also super he's going to dive up the inside but we know jp is going to shut the door the lotus is trying to get the advantage they touch the lotus goes through they're three wide on the exit of the exit of spoon the lotus gets the position here comes the other nissan jp oliveira is losing music losing and the lotus is up to uh third position could it be the second podium in a rum there's your race leader and race winner tsuko matsula in the motor vortex vtr yeah he's nine and a half seconds clear now sam nine and a half he ain't gonna be caught [Music] [Applause] he's not gonna be cool here but what a race we need to come back to this cast because what a finish this is going to be gm one says the on-board indicator tsukiyo matsuda comes around out of e chicane to cross the line and win the bigger he's not close enough now though rob it's the hell you know he's got a few hundred meters to go all he has to do is put his foot down and hope yeah it doesn't help so there is your peace winner again attack gtr followed by the up garage honda but who's third i've got no idea it was jp oliveira about three laps ago now he's 77th it's a slightly grumpy gtr it's the other 10x gtr leon mercedes what a finish i i mean i'd love to see the end of the battle between those two gtrs in gt300 jp oliveira getting sent into the hairpin we only saw it briefly so i don't really understand who was to blame there jp being very aggressive but that's the way he drives well the supercircuit has shown us a fantastic race here 300 kilometers of action on in honda's backyard and the victory all went to this and ronnie cantorelli already been asked let's out tsukio matsuda for their first win of the year they are very happy with that and i don't think they expected it we'll hear from all of the front drivers in all of the classes and stay tuned to us we'll be watching the podium and look at those wonderful trophies you get here it's the secret circuit and uh well yeah that means a lot i think matsuda's endears with that actually wow wow just look at that sam just look at that yeah they are both overcome from motion again at 10x congratulations driving there congratulates the tunis my drivers that means a lot to pay for they found something in qualifying to put it on the front row and capitalized on race pace and they were both magnificent through the traffic magnificent jonathan there is your gt300 win of the game at 10x gtr car 11 great result for them again they look champions the contrast in emotions of the honda nsx the arter nsx they're parked up driver looking despondent and broken yet joy in the pit box for these guys absolutely it was interesting we've done a lot look good donald tyres look good in gt 300 and they actually the circuits work quite well and they're quite happy with that result but i'm not surprised because i mean they're just having a conversation saying i would what's a race [Music] ben bliss says the first time this says first time fourth position fifth was the denso cabelco star gl supra the craftsports white gtr was sick good finish for them seven position with the keeper tom's gr supra the kahin nsx was eight and in night position with the weight costs four cr geos flipper a disappointing result for young martin bro in the realized corporation advanced gtr bodywork failure i believe some fire troubles the cal sonic gtr was also in trouble but in gt 300 what a race the gainer tana x took victory if you just saw ahead of the up garage nsx then the cyntium lotus came in third position the subaru brz was four the gainer tanax number 10 car was fifth the leon pyramid amg six good for them the careers which just started on pole seven position was the realized technical college gtr after all of those troubles and the pacific d station vantage gt3 aston martin was in a 10th position and i didn't expect that result the 360 uh run-up gtr was in 11th the saitama toyota gtr at sorry uh zupra was out of the points that was a surprising well that strategy went wrong poppy porsche was 14. the t dash was the first of the lamborghinis in 16th position the study bmw 21st the hair transplant gtr was in the 22nd position the j lot lamborghini number 88 could have had a good result went for the wrong strategy tires failed down in 27th the team matt carr failed to finish looking at the championship points though it's still close at the top number 36 sekiguchi and fenestraz still lead the championship ahead of hirokawa and cassidy so it's alms doing great 26 points in third and oshima and show subway in four the result today got sigo matsuda and ronnie cantarelli up to sixth position but in gt 300 it's a similar story hiranaka and yasuda in the 11 gtr from 35 points in the leads four points clear of kato and yanagida in the lotus really important result today for them and third is the 52 card procedure and hawaii which is uh 61 the super duper said is in fourth and fifth is in fifth position what a result today and it's going to really mix up the championship we're so far out um and it's going to be really interesting to see how things develop going into mcclay but let's have a look at some of the moments there was almost immediate action as the first of the toyota priuses exited stage right in the esses safety car came out and there was more right we went back to crete then got past the vocal cortex gtr while the cal sonic car found garage got back going a little bit later he got himself into some action but the action was all down at the chicane has it ever seen for the very beginning with the nsx might be about that but here in gt 300 this is where the action really got going there was the boobs made by ronnie in torelli to get through the gt3 countries are really the staff legend and that was brilliant brilliant driving from the italian uh wacos car taking advantage there as well the modular car though rob i think really he just lost his head yeah he got mugged completely kinterelli going by him put him off and then yeah he just got railroaded if you leave a gap big enough for one car four or five are going to come through and yeah as we said at the time p1 to p7 in one lap it's absolutely sensational but this is where the battle really started in the gt300 things got going there but look this is where after the hairpin that's got to be morally hazardous for the arthur nsx the way mug the theme sad super hiking overliner was very unimpressed by that and i think there might be a conversation after the race but look at this battle in gt300 this was the first moment that jp oliveira had with a car trying to get past him he ended up in the gravel at the dagners and then trying to hold on to his position the whole gt300 field if he felt like that was trying to get hard to leon forsaken then unless the barriers spread across the track as ronnie and torelli took victory the battling gt 300 was far far from over they were still celebrating and still celebrating but in pc 300 he gained a 10x car took the lead but behind him there'd been more action i'm not sure we're about to see it but we should because the uh jp oliveiro ended up in the in the off the track again at the hairpin no we're not going to see that in this highlights package today but looking at the honda factory just past the circuit if you've enjoyed this slightly less people on it's uh well i'm looking forward to that as well and then this weekend as the podium music gets going we can have all the reaction from the indy 500. and we're going to be looking forward to next weekend's belgium grand prix at frank roshan and there is that rain that never came in those puffy clouds over the mountains it's a zooka mountain they're actually called and it's one of the oldest names in japan suzuka mountains predates even you're just a font of knowledge sam watching the the highlights reel there i was amazed to see that the um camus amg the uh the the leon amg finished you know he is the one that spun so heavily into all finished fifth in gt 300. i mean we knew we didn't really see the end of the gt300 battle because we were watching uh the the motor tech gtr across the line but there was still a lot going on there it's again the 10x driver's adopt two flag strategy for the podium it's uh good for your branding one gain applied one it's a like single flag for the uh the honda drivers they're up carriage uh congratulating each other on the phone it's still all a bit shell-shocked you'll see these brilliant trophies i love these trophies you didn't get one of these though did you uh i'm afraid i did yeah sorry the the deer with the bell round his neck yeah yeah one up here i'm i'm a little bit jealous now we'll see those trophies in a second but bit of celebration no flags from the latest theme obviously lotus in uh in heffel haven't sent their drivers over some flags disappointing call from the uh british manufacturer but there you go i actually like the third position trophy the best so it's this it's this beautiful sort of running deer suzuka the word suzukin if you don't translate it directly means bell deer so the trophies are a deer with the bell round neck of course and uh yeah either guys uh sorry just gonna say good result for the uh the lotus again puts them right in the mix for the championship yeah i think the championship is gonna be between these guys in first and third now again a 10x gtr team there with the autobacks trophy and the lotus drivers who could finish third i think that was a little bit unexpected for them but there's a slight change through the third position trophy the uh the bell on the third positions race is silver this year boys used to be the same color as the rest of the trophy i think i prefer the old version eric c thank you very much stay with us though we've got more podiums good there's always got flags in the pocket lifted two trophies at once but i think uh two trophies left his legs somewhere i'm not sure he cares non-matching face masks still some teams learning from that but the uh the race winners and the third place cars they've got their matching face mask going little lotus friendly face masks i think there'll be people looking to try and get those at home yeah attention to detail sam makes all the difference you work a lot in norfolk do you have one of those uh no i don't i have i have quite a lot of other things with the badge on but not a face mask yeah we have to paint that there's the uh random face master base the gainer drives but yeah just off the shelf once the up garage one not surprised though up garage is a shop where you can buy second-hand car parts um and go and buy your bits and pieces it's a wonderful shop to walk through it's just got lines and lines of bits of cars that you can buy it's like a very organized scrap yard there everything's really good and nice [Applause] there they're still posing for their photos beauty five hundred drivers must be getting a bit frustrated waiting for this lot now but these guys provided the best entertainment of the race so uh they deserve their time on the podium now don't leave the fight don't leave your trophies behind they got told to leave their trophies behind oh well well there's confusion there i wouldn't if i had one of those dear bell trophies i wouldn't be letting my hands off it as you said it's uh it's it's been a been a good day weather-wise a little bit of rain in the mix could have ruined what would have been a uh well ruined what could have been an extraordinary race but uh yeah fantastic action underneath the uh the blue skies here at suzuka today yeah i mean we didn't need the rain did we i mean i thought that would really spice up the action nicely if it but a bit of a wet dry race but didn't matter because uh the rain didn't turn up because it was probably too busy watching gt300 like the rest of us that was brilliant racing uh we'll have the gt500 podium in just a moment i was just going to say with those dear belle trophies i've actually just been tempted to enter a super fj race at suzuka just so i can get one of those trophies um i was commentating on a race porsche race last summer at suzuka and yuji eday managed to finish third of three porsches the porsche race went on for 25 minutes three cars in and he still got the trophy so i thought you know what i could go and enter that next year and get the get the trophy i think anybody missed me on the commentary team with three cars could you drive and do the commentary at the same time i've always wondered that i've always thought it might be fun to cry matt i reckon we should try it and here's sam collins going backwards through the pack always being overtaken no i wouldn't have taken i'd be in the barriers mate well there is the podium to the trophies the scratch cards or will i think it's the drivers there's one of them do you go back to there's another ronnie pinterelli again branded matching face fast uh nismo face masks then so that will be something people will be asking right wind flag technique and they're still a little bit overcome with that result [Music] he's in pieces really really emotional clearly means so so much they fought long and hard to come from a lowly position in that gt 500 pack and yeah the ray brig team taking the runners-up spot in their blue livery nsx oh and um and for the au tom sacha fenestraz there jumping up onto the podium he's at you know we did they've had a really great race we didn't actually see much of them in the race but they actually it's been great for their championship and they've delivered a brilliant result from where they started yeah the first half of the race i was watching fenestraz because he's normally quite racy and he was conspicuous by his absence sort of at the lower part of the field but his teammate yeah came to the four in the second half of the race absolutely and just i think he should be very happy with that result and he's got the nicer bronze trophy there uh so he'll take a meal we treasure in that one and i think he's on he could be on his way to a real championship till at the moment well he clearly is on his way to a real championship field um i think super gt was a good move for that young man yep absolutely and he's fitted he's fitted right in doing a good job and uh on the factory roster of the uh the toyota team as well yeah exactly though being on the factory roster of a toyota team if you're looking at your um your career prospects going forward it's the one manufacturer that doesn't have a direct formula one link [Music] here's the scratch card for the best performer 500 000 yen oh i was just going to say how many serbian dinars is that that's about 47 000 serbian dinars um it's about it's about 25 gambian dalsali and the 11 600 honduran lempira and of course 198 510 kazakhstani tanks well i'm glad glad you put that one to bed now five hundred thousand yen i'll get you uh i'll get you a few rice balls and some counter beer to um to have on the uh rapid me number three back to nagoya before you get on the shinkansen back to tokyo but one man who doesn't go back to tokyo of course is matsuda he lives here in me prefecture and has a lovely model railway of the area because he lives just down the road he doesn't have to take the train home at all and he quickly posts pictures of his model trains on twitter great job from those guys today really really strong stuff from the veteran pair i mean it was super impressive for most of them actually i think um all of these guys up there putting great performances in gt500 which is what you expect before a class that's got 15 cars in and two world-class drivers in each car i mean that's that's pretty good oh oh the ray brake nsx team though that's not a world-class podium performance they ran away a bit too early yeah they were premature weren't they that's cassidy level podium failure [Music] i do miss our random bit of sportswear or the scary furry animal oh we haven't got to those tracks yet you know when the the day the scary furry animal gave away its offspring i still have nightmares about that yeah that was very genuinely harrowing i think we might get a bucket of fish heads in matagi [Music] and they both want the belt belt ears [Music] so fingers crossed sam just thinking next time we're back here at suzuka in october hopefully those grandstands will have at least some fans in them that would be great wouldn't it i mean it's real shame just seeing it looks so strange being so empty i mean it's what you see when you arrive for the grand prix on like thursday or something you see that even then actually the grand stands aren't empty only when you get up very early in the morning but the next race twin ring matega as you can see qualifying on the 12th of september and the race live here and in full on the 13th of september on the hyphenate qualifying there was some red hair there was some paul sitter there were some moody shots there was celebrations and there was a race start a car crashed another one lost its wheel some overtaking some battling defensive faces blinking some bodywork a nascar looking car a retirement a spin some gravel my initials [Music] some more spins moral hazards a man put his hand around another shoulder two cars followed each other off a man phrase didn't get answered car crashed gt300 battle a man was depressed a man celebrated a man was happy some expressions from the fans and nissan won the nissan
