all right in today's video i'm going to be showing you how to do the fuel pump replacement on a 2009 ford f-150 um now if you wanted to you can um go ahead and just disconnect the battery i'm not going to go ahead and disconnect the battery i'm just going to leave it as that um since i'm kind of a little decline i put my wheel checks in the front but i would recommend to do at the front and back um just so that the car doesn't go back and forth so i went ahead and did the honors of lifting up the vehicle so i mean you probably can't do this from now you really can't do this from lifting up the cab so usually a lot of other people can lift up the cabin and do it from there but i lift it up from right here on the differential housing and then i went ahead and put my jack stands right here on the axle tubes so on both sides and then again um i would put your emergency brakes on because we're gonna have to loosen up these bolts i already did the honors to loosen up one i'm going to show you how to do one basically you are going to need a 12 millimeter wrench make sure it is a 12 point you can use a socket too but as long as it's a 12 point um and so forth um if you haven't already give it a thumbs up comment down below if you have any questions and hit that subscribe button for more upcoming videos in the future and i'm going to show you how to start do the and we're going to go ahead and start the video right after the intro [Music] all right so we're gonna go ahead and loosen up this bolt now i'm just going to only show you on one and now these guys are on there really really tight so um which is why i want you to put on your emergency brake because when we're hitting this i don't want to be trying to damage the transmission by hitting this whole bunch of force so i'm gonna pull right here and at the same time i'm gonna go ahead and hit sorry guys the camera was in the way so i'll just do it from a different angle all right so we got that loose and that's how much well that's pretty much how you're gonna do it for the other ones so we're gonna go ahead and keep loosening up these bad boys and um once i'm done loosening up this other one um basically we'll go ahead and get back to the video but when you have when you're trying to loosen up these guys up the top if you can't hit it with the hammer go back in the vehicle put your car in neutral and then take off the emergency brake and then go ahead and spin the wheel and then spin it to where you can grab these guys so you're gonna come inside here you can spin it by the drive shaft should be very easy to spin when you have the car in neutral and the emergency brake off so don't forget that so again we're i'm gonna go ahead and take these both off and then we'll get right back to the video alright so now that we got all four bolts off um we're gonna go ahead and take off our drive shaft now usually these guys are in there pretty tight all right so we are gonna use a flat head because i can actually fit that in there more i can actually dig that in there and then again i'm going to be having my shoulder catch the drive axle so i have my shoulder leaning like that all right so starting to spread up on out slowly but surely [Music] all right so there we go so we're opening it so you guys can see so all right cool we got that popped right off and then we're just gonna move this over to the side i'll i'll show that right now i literally have this pulled over to the side just like that and now that gives me space for me to sit in there and so right here that's where our fuel pump would be it's actually under the cab and not under the bed well depending on the wheelbase but i mean i mean i don't know so all of them might be the same or not um now we have let's see we have a little sensor i gotta point out there's a little i think this is called a little check valve that's right here [Music] so this is a better view we're still in the back of the differential this is all the way at the rear end of the tank now i just only want to disconnect this piece right here just because if we don't we have a better chance of snapping this sucker so um see how i can do this all right so right here now there's i think there's two clips on each side so there's a red piece right here and then obviously you see a little red tab right there now this is very hard for me to show with the camera in the way but i am gonna be pressing on those red tabs and then i'm gonna push in or maybe i can use a flat head screwdriver for this side so all right so i went ahead and squeezed the tabs and once you squeeze it you're usually going to push it right in as you're squeezing it and then you're going to pull it right out and it should come right up on out so all right so we got that up on out now i think we can leave this guy right there all right what else um we want to disconnect this piece from the little hose because we don't want nothing ripping off and now at the same time we have a little connector right here so you see that little red tab what i'm going to do is i'm going to get my flat head screwdriver and i'm going to push on it so i have it flat where's just like that and you're just going to oh push it on this side right there so do it on the fat side so now that we got we might need to push it back just the hairline more um let's see so i haven't pushed up on the the big side let me just get that zoomed in we might need to pull this off all the way all right so we got that pulled back and on the back side of it right back here i'm just pulling it like this it has like a little tab right here that you can grab with your finger sometimes these guys can be on there pretty tight and you could probably spray some wd-40 or just tap on it with like a screwdriver just to break whatever little debris that gets in there because obviously a lot of dirt gets inside of here so all right so on the back side of this up on top i can't show that right now but i wish i could there's a little tab i'll show this right when i take it off i'm just gonna push down with the flathead screwdriver [Music] and i'm gonna bring it towards the fuel pump and then i'm going to pull it out so right now this guy is on there pretty tight all right cool so although you can hear all the little dirt so you see all that dirt coming out so that's what keeps it from sliding out pretty easy so right here let me get that shown this is what we're pushing on so you just literally push down on the back side of it not right here you want to push down right here so you want to have your finger near the the rear end of the connector all right so next thing we got to take off this connector this connector i believe is our pressure let's see what is that i believe that's our pressure yeah that is our either our pressure or our return um pretty sure i don't know but i haven't checked out the diagram so we're just gonna push down on this and then at the same time i'm just gonna push this back push that away and then you can see all the little see all the little dirt coming out um if you need to you could probably spray some wd-40 or some whatever just to clean those up all right so on this wire harness right here so right here coming up here you're gonna there's a little clips that are um oh man it popped right off so here's that clip you push these little tabs out i'm gonna go ahead and connect that back in i'm just gonna push it off to the side now there's two of them so there's one right there and then there's one or right here this is how it looks like so this is how it's going to be connected in there and then you're going to grab it like this by putting your fingers in between that and pushing down right here at the same time you don't want to keep pulling it up because it will come up with with it to a certain extent so now so now we have this um to a certain extent and so we when we pull this out we don't have to worry about this ripping down with the whole fuel pump so now we're going to go back in the vehicle and start the car and um let whatever remaining pressure inside of the system get re get burned off now if your fuel pump is not working then obviously i mean it's not gonna work so um yeah all right so i already got the fuel drained out now um basically what we can do is there's two fuel lines in the front uh well there's a vapor line and then there's a fuel line in the front um that we can disconnect see so right here we can disconnect this um i believe this one is the charcoal canister line so this is our evap so we just literally pop this guy right out just like this and then we'll just wiggle it up on out no fuel is going to come out of this if fuel does come out of this you need to replace this whole unit so fuel no fuel should come out now fuel will come out of this red one though all right so next right here on this little red piece we gotta put our flathead right here and then at the same time there's a little tab tomorrow let me get that zoomed in so you see this little there's a little tab right here so it's like you push it this way and it'll open so you see how that open but you can get like a pick or a flat head and dig it right here and at the same time while you're loosing this because i had a lot of debris i just opened this up and then i think we can push up on the top we're gonna so right here on the bottom where my where my thumb is i can't really show it but you see how this piece is lifting up i'm just pushing it up i'm pushing in you see a little tab that's right here that i'm moving sorry i can't show it pretty well but i'm pushing it in all right cool and then that should wiggle right out if it doesn't come out the first time just wiggle it if not play around with it spray some wd-40 because all this dirt that's in here you see all that dirt that stuff is what's gonna keep it from coming out pretty easy um so now i have a catch cam to catch whatever fuel that's going to come out now be careful with your eyes guys your eyes are the most precious thing wear some glasses or something or look away so fuel should start coming out and then i have it leaking into the container it's not a lot but at least it's something so i'm going to tilt it down just like that make sure you're not smoking you're not sparking anything so i just have this facing down so we can get mostly all the fuel out of the line so it's not leaking on us because it's not fun when it leaks on us so after it's done dripping out i'm gonna go ahead and stop the video or well yeah well that's pretty much it all right so now let's go back to the um the rear of the the rear of it so next um you can disconnect your your um filler neck um i mean you could either disconnect it from up there whatever i'm not going to disconnect it we're only going to sneak out the fuel pump now this will help us save some extra time and labor and so forth but the filler neck is actually kind of like right up here um it's on top of the tank it's just a little bit tedious to get to so we still have to drop down the tank either way and and so forth um there is a hose i think that we can um i think it's like right here there's like a little hose that we can disconnect or something i don't even know why this is like this maybe there's supposed to be more in i don't know um anyway so we're gonna i have my jack right here and then i have one of my wraps drive up ramps right there you can use like a basket or two jacks um just to like bring down the tank i have about a little bit over half a tank of gas in this so it's pretty i mean decent um so i'm gonna go ahead and take off my straps so we got um i think those are 13 millimeter so we got one right there and then one right here i'm gonna take off this one first so as we're dropping you can see the tank [Music] all right so i got that bowled out and it hasn't dropped until i take off that tank so see that bad boy that's a good thing why we have it right there all right so coming right up here what i'm gonna do is i'm gonna lift up this strap so we don't damage it or make it a little bit difficult to install so we're just gonna sneak out that guy so you can see this just lift it up you might need to wiggle it you're gonna push it up top and then sneak it out now we're gonna leave that one here because there's two different straps this is the shorty one and then there's the longer one for the back now also one thing i forgot to mention when you're taking this off be careful with your eyes because it is gonna be a lot of debris when taking these off all right so we got this one off and let's just go ahead and pull out this strap then we're just gonna pull this back all right so this strap i think i think we can keep it in there um let's see if you want to move it out the way i'm just going to pull it back a little bit bring it over the jack and then now we'll be able to come out we'll just leave the cover on sorry about the camera moving so much um all right so this cover really it doesn't come off no so we're gonna just leave it there i mean just don't want to work anymore harder all right so we're gonna go ahead and lower down the jack i'm gonna have my wife do that hopefully she doesn't kill me but i don't have life insurance so she can't get anything from me if she does kill me so left all right so we're gonna have her drop it so if i die we know who to blame but hopefully she'll upload this video you are gonna do it but i have my hips just holding the gas tank just in case so she dropped it too low i'm doing it all right slowly but surely all right so right there you see how it's slow it's dropping down slowly i'm not doing anything is it still dropping yeah okay push it right all right so right now it's stopped i think all of our all of our weight up in the front we need to go ahead and move that all right so i'm going to lift up with my hips a little bit and then i am going to my hips don't lie so i'm going to lift up and then i'm gonna turn this guy around and i'm just gonna let this drop a little bit more lower all right cool so i think we might need it no you're fi lift up the jack lift it up lift it up so right now as you can see all our weight is being held on by the filler neck so we're just gonna have her right there that's it um i need to drop down this one a little bit more so we have somewhat decent range of um area let me go find something small enough that i can fit right there all right so i'm gonna go ahead and pull this back a little bit um i got a little four by six piece of wood so [Music] give me that 4x4 again well four by six [Music] all right so what i'm gonna do is i'm gonna lay this out just like i that i will leave it by the 4x4 i think that's somewhat that looks like it should be enough room if not let's see all right so i'm gonna go ahead and just push this out the way now they will be fine just like that now there's a little bit of rocks right here um so that might get inside there i can't really oh you can just bang on it and just blow it out as much as you can um but yeah so what i'm gonna go ahead and do there's there's pretty much they do sell a tool a special tool for this um i would recommend to get it if not i'm going to do it my way i'm just going to tap on these edges now be very careful that you do not cause a spark um when the fuel is exposed if you're ready to put back on everything then i mean yeah i mean you have a really good chance of sparking up stuff but yeah so um so let's go ahead and do that so i'm gonna go ahead and get a flat head screwdriver and a um a good size hammer just to hammer this out and then yeah we should be good so i thought i was recording um but i guess i wasn't so what i did was is that i hit on this i have a rubber um screwdriver well the rubber end and then obviously right here so what we want to do is we just be careful i'm doing it my way i wouldn't recommend it this way make sure i don't get this let me blow this out unless you get credit for dropping off the rotors and stuff who me no you do you get warranty return i guess so what i did was is i got one of these little tabs right here and i just hammered it like so i hit with this side with the hammer now i don't condone that but i went ahead and did it myself so yes sir all right so next thing we're going to go ahead and do i like to do this first before i open up any of these tabs because i don't want to explode so we are going to go ahead and pull this one this one literally is like the one that we pulled off earlier so just gonna go ahead and pull this out last thing i want to be is on channel six news guy blows up with the customer car so we're just gonna pry this one right open just like that all right now we'll just kind of move this one out the way i'm gonna bring this well we don't really need to move it but i'm going to move it so you see right here i'm just going to pull this tab back a little bit and this one and just work it just like that so it's out of our way and now so you see this red one right here that's basically the same thing how we saw earlier and i wish i could show you guys let me bring the camera over so right here [Music] all right so you guys can see that so i'm pulling this little tab right here and i'm just kind of flexing it back but if you have a hard time really pulling it out you can dig something right in here just to pull that out so at the same time i'm gonna push in a little bit right here and then i'm just gonna push it in now you have a really good chance of bending this so you just wanna work it and now on the other side right here let me move this out the way on this side right here i'm going to push on the other side now i'm going to work these both just like that all right so right here now we're back on this side so you're just going to pull this back as much as possible all right it's not going to come out all the way so it's just going to come out as much as possible and then you're going to go ahead and lift this up now be careful when you're taking this off because fuel might splash in your eyes so as you're pulling this out just wiggle it up on out we're gonna move that to the side and then now we're gonna go to pull this guy right out and then we're gonna go ahead and pull this guy out now when pulling this guy out what is holding this oh nothing was holding it so you're just gonna spin this up on out now as you're pulling this you're going to have some fuel now the last thing you want is fuel leaking all over you trust me you don't want to smell like fuel all day because your wife won't let you back inside the house trust me i know as you're pulling this out so this one's kind of a little bit tight i see all that fuel leaking right up on out all right later jay [Music] all right so [Music] [Music] all right so we you're just gonna spin this up on out all right so now i gotta find out a way so where you guys can see now i'm gonna move to the side because i don't want any fuel on me and i'm just gonna tilt this right over at the same time i'm gonna collapse this or if i can so i'm gonna compress this and now i'm able to lift up and then on the other side right now it's draining out a little bit on the other side we have our level gauge i just want this thing to drain out as much as possible so i'm gonna go ahead and compress it again kiki give me that green container [Music] and now i'm just going to go ahead and swing over the fuel pump i'm going to push down and i'm going to lift this bad boy up all right so i had another see how a little bit of fuel came out so right here i put that in there so there we have it so now we're pretty much ready to clean up our area so i'm going to go ahead and clean this up make sure you don't get no debris in there now check also because i know some of you your fuel pump this happened to me a while ago is that one of the fuel pumps a whole bunch of metal shavings came out so you see right there's a little bit of sediments in there so you would want to clean all that up so it's really really you would have to empty out the tank filter it and then pour it back in you can use like those um those coffee straighteners to filter these guys out so you're gonna pop out your old o-ring again i'm gonna go ahead and clean up this area and then we'll get back to the video all right so we are ready to put back on our fuel pump so here is our new o-ring i would recommend to get a new o-ring because we do not want to evap code leak that's the last thing what we want trust me all right so we got that guy in there now with our fuel pump assembly so i can show you guys this we got to insert this clip in maybe some of you guys so you need to be very careful with this answer just go ahead and clip that in alright so just like that make sure when you're pushing this in that you need to push this guy down and you don't want to push down right here because you don't want to bend this because last thing if you bend this then you're going to have a off reading all right so let's go ahead and show you the full view uh what's going on so let's go ahead and get that so we're gonna slide in our floater in first we're gonna bring that in i'm gonna go ahead and compress the fuel pump now this one's a lot more stronger let me just bring this over from right here so compressing compressing and then you need to kind of just swirl it around so that was a little bit more tedious so as we spun it around as i kept it compressed we are okay all right so right here this guy should be right here and so forth so now we're going to get our retainer ring wherever i put that at now make sure there's no debris on the bottom make sure you have this cleaned up sorry about the bad camera angle guys i'm trying my best so we're just going to sit this on here now if you're having a really hard time inserting this guy make sure that your o-ring is seated and you can actually lubricate this with dielectric grease just so your fuel pump can slide in but i'm not having an issue with mine so as i'm holding my fuel pump in i'm pressing down just like this and then we're gonna start off a little start so as right there i already started up a little bit it just caught just a little lip now we're just gonna kind of let this air out for a couple minutes um before i start hitting again and then we'll get right back to the video and the reason why i'm saying let it air out whatever fumes because fuel itself the liquid it's not the flammable part it's the vapor of the of the actual fuel itself that's that's the actual thing that will be all combustible so all right so let's go ahead and start this now when doing this you need to be very careful when hitting this and you want to make sure you're not hitting up the tank that you're hitting right here straight again they do sell a tool for this and again i'm hitting the back of my screwdriver right there you see how we're stopped but you see right here this little gap we're not done yet we need to go ahead and hit that all the way in and then voila that actually went in pretty actually easy usually they're a little bit more difficult by the way i'm using a i think it's a five pound hammer no four pound hammer i'm sorry this is a four pound hammer that i'm using all right so next thing what you want to go ahead and do you want to go ahead and put in your your connector oh hold on let me go get some grease all right so we're gonna go ahead and put some dielectric grease i'm gonna go ahead and pop both of these caps off and then i'm just gonna put the dielectric grease on my finger and then we're just gonna put like a little coat right here right here and then what this helps does is this will prevent any damage to the o-ring on the actual um sensor you can do spit i mean whatever so then you'll go ahead and push these clips in so push that in and then from the back you're gonna just click push it into eclipse and then as for this one make sure that one's in all the way that's in and then you're gonna make sure that one clip so pull these back make sure that they don't come back see how much easier that was for it being um clipped in so now we're gonna go ahead and put in our connector for up here well let me just tap i can feel it a little bit rough all right cool so we'll go ahead and put this guy in i'm not going to put any dielectric grease that's not needed all right so you're going to push that in until it clips try pulling it back now if that little red clip breaks it's not the end of the world letter that's a little safety feature i'm going to go ahead and put back on the clip because i still saved it now let's go ahead and put that right back in because we want the jaw professionally done so all right so you're gonna push that in there like that and as for this guy we're gonna go ahead and connect this and then try pulling it back see how that came back out we thought we put it in or i thought i did so i'm just going to go ahead and push it in and then i'm still having a hard time there's debris in there so what i'm doing is i'm pushing right here on the ends make sure you grab the the connector oh god it's not going in maybe i've got some dirt in there it doesn't want to open oh yeah there is some dirt don't bang against the sensor like i did all right cool so now that went in see that little dirt that was stopping me sorry i thought you guys are watching maybe you guys work it's really hard to do this with the camera in a way so try pulling it back all right cool so now we're going to go ahead and get the clip that fell out oh well this one broke oh well that's it that's fine it's not the end of the world it's all right so this we are going to go ahead and clip this guy back in all right so right there if you guys want to see so that's how i have that clip in just like that we have that one in there and now as for this guy ah you didn't really need to take it off but still i took it off just in case so now same thing i'm gonna put a little dielectric grease right here right here and then we're going to go ahead and just slide this bad boy right in there now this will also help for next time we have to take these off and i'll lubricate the o-ring so we are now ready to put back up the fuel tank all right so now the way how i'm gonna lift this god this is gonna be pretty heavy so i'm gonna go right up on fret and then i'm just gonna lift it up just like this with my knees now this is a lot of weight and then i'm gonna go ahead and adjust myself [Music] all right so this is probably a foot probably about 14 inches to a foot so whatever you can use if you can use your jack to lift it up but now at this point since you have a lot of weight i would i wouldn't recommend your jack to lift it up because you might puncture it so if you can put like a little piece of wood to distribute distribute the weight that would be great so let me go ahead and lift this up all right we're a little bit closer now what i'm gonna go ahead and do i can actually just lift this up an actual two more inches cj or kiki oh never mind got it all right so right here i'm gonna go ahead and slide this in there but i'm going to go ahead and nothing so i'm going to go ahead and use the weight to lift this up so let's that's good all right right there now stop it okay all right cool all right so i had to breathe this back a little bit so we're gonna go ahead and put this jack stand or this this wood right up now i can't fit this up there but i can fit it right here [Music] so i think we're pretty ideally close if i need to i'll use my weight again now normally i believe this guy right here i think this is what zip tie well not zip tied it has like a strap that's holding it in but that strap is the one that i pulled out but that's fine it's kind of getting annoying now so we're gonna go ahead and put in our strap just like this so we'll wiggle that up in there so right now you see i've kind of my straps become a little bit hard watch it's not that bad so let's go up one over here now i just noticed this there's two bolts that are one bolt short and then the other one's longer so we're going to use the longer one for the one in the back we're going to use this one from the front so what i'm going to go ahead and do i'm actually gonna start this a little bit a different extension all right so let's go ahead and start this so i'm just gonna kind of push it up a little bit [Music] now i didn't thread it in by hand um i just kind of centered it straight and i'm watching it from right here now this is how i normally do all my my fuel pumps and i just watch it from right there just to make sure that's centered and then i'm just going to go ahead and impact it up and then there we have it now i want to do that for the other one all right so now we're going to go ahead and put this guy in we're going to wiggle that in and just spin that around all right so now we're going to swing that right over all right so now i'm going to use my my gun just to push it in and at the same time i'm going to watch it from the back so i'm going to show you from the first one what i mean so right now that's crooked so you see up on top you can see how it's crooked if i were to angle that in right now we'd have a huge mess so i'm pushing it and i'm centering it at the same time so that kind of went in a little bit crooked i need to just fix my thing up a little bit all right so let's go ahead and do this one more time sorry about all the movement guys just want you to see this so i'm gonna use my hand just like that all right so you guys can see i need to use both hands on this because just a little bit tedious all right so there we have it voila so now we're going to go ahead and move our stuff out of here we don't need this anymore so we'll come over here to the same thing we're going to get a little bit of dielectric grease and then we're just going to slide this bad boy right back in push it down until it clips until that one clips and then we're gonna go ahead and push this around right in see it's not in all the way right now just right oh i guess it wasn't so try pulling it back all right cool so we're all set and done now let's go back in the vehicle so let's go ahead and put on the drive shaft now i went ahead and took off the emergency brake so now i could spin the wheel just like that now this doesn't have like a right or wrong way of putting this well it does you want to put so right there you see how you have these little imprints right there you want to put those back where they are make sure you clean this because if you have a little debris whatever you can have a wobble and you can wear out the differential and you can wear out the diff on the joints if you're just having too much pressure you're causing a wobble and you can even damage the transmission too as well so let's do this all right usually i like to have the car in neutral all right so we're gonna go ahead and thread these all in by hand um now they're supposed to come with some loctite i believe yeah so i'll put like some orange loctite i'm not gonna do that right now i'm actually going to go take it for a test drive and i'm going to recheck everything make sure that's all fine i have till tomorrow all right so i know you're not going to want to see the mostly boring part of this so make sure you snug this guy down and then you you you tighten it over here you turn it over there and then you're gonna tie it in a um opposite pattern so you go one up here one right there one right here and then one over here all right so let's go ahead and um we got to prime up the system so once you put the key on the on position you're going to do you're going to cycle your key on and off so when all the lights illuminate we're going to do this about three times all right so on the that's the third time and then we're going to do it one more time so on the fourth time we're going to go ahead and start it all right so i should do it five times um that's pretty much it now the reason why i'm replacing this is because this car came in as a no start and basically hit the fuel tank and it started so we knew it was the fuel pump but yeah this video helped you out give it a thumbs up comment down below if you have any questions and hit that subscribe button for more upcoming videos in the future and thanks for watching
