[Music] [Applause] your bcs national champions the trojans of USC a perfect season at 13 though and let the celebration the University of Southern California [Music] [Applause] after crushing Oklahoma 5519 to win the second consecutive national championship USC set their goals as high as possible winning an unprecedented third straight national title to do so the return of Heisman winning quarterback Matt Leinart would without adduct benefit us see in their quest to make history I've announced I will be coming back for my fifth year it's important to me because I do want to win you know I want to feel here this team and I did come back to win obviously and I came back to be with these guys this is fight on an inside look at the 2005 USC Trojans you come back shortly after capturing their second consecutive national championship Trojan players and coaches were as determined as ever during offseason drills every time you have a chance get out and compete in that right just going through things that's not the way we do things we don't go through the motions we do it right all the way all the time dai Tue I'm good this team's gonna be a good the season is it's up to you right now come on dadgummit y'all bad dog Matt don't be walking on me you have two choices not either worked in the factory or you own the factory one way to do it one way to do it guys every time we wake up we do things right it's just way it is you start living that way I'm gonna start acting that way alright everybody wants to be part of it now everybody wants to be part of it now entering the 2005 season the Trojans faced a difficult challenge playing five of their first seven games on the road well we have a very difficult schedule you know going on the road so many times early in the year and we just didn't talk about it we just kept taking one at a time you know and knocking them off and I found over the years that you're gonna have these dramatic games you don't know when they're gonna pop up or who it's going to be here when what you know what the situation will call for but you just have to be ready to respond when it does Aloha Stadium in Honolulu would be the backdrop for USC's first contest of 2005 versus Hawaii [Music] the game plan of the Warriors head coach Jim Jones was obvious from the start keep the ball away from the Trojans high-powered offense SC's offense didn't touch the ball for the first 13 minutes of the game we didn't get to touch the ball for most of the first quarter for the offense no we're just anxious to get out there and you know get started you know we were anxious to see what we had and and you know where we were at that point in time this season despite the overwhelming time of possession in favor of Hawaii USC still held a 7 to 3 lead after one quarter thanks to a big play from safety Darnell Bing by the second and third quarters SC's explosive offense finally got their hands on the ball and the onslaught began all alone back in the end zone that's another pic point for USD making 67 from that light liner and Bush get the great blocking outside 4:30 5:30 he's at the 20 chase to the sidelines of the fan 5 dives towards the goal line did he get in Matt Leinart threw for over 330 yards and three touchdowns as the Trojans rocked Hawaii 63 to 17 [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] turn back [Applause] [Applause] looking for the end off flag down [Applause] USC scored touchdowns on nine of their first ten possessions and had 736 yards of total offense on the night for Arkansas tonight notice here there's this touchdown get shut down wait [Applause] but oh they said McFadden of Ontario dr. Lewis just took him up hard at their 32 yard line a gain of two it was like an onslaught you know it was definitely a video game on the lowest level we had the best team you know but uh you know no disrespect to Arkansas but everything was just kind of clicking that game the final score in this one 77 team gave the Trojans their 24th consecutive victory next USC went back on the road to open their pac-10 conference this time to the hostile confines of auxin state it at the complete sellout now you draw near wall get ready for today's game it was allowing a lot of people hadn't on our team you know I hadn't played in that type of environment before and you know as far as that being the first big you know clone cold game of the season it was tough [Applause] [Music] Kellen Clemens and the Ducks got off to a surprising 13-0 lead this would be an important moment of the season for the Trojans but they overcome their first serious adversity SC finally got on the board with this short pass and catch from liner to bush but the Trojans still went into the locker room down by three in the second half the Trojans came out and wore down the ducks with a more consistent offensive attack USC completely shut out the Ducks in the second half and the Trojans went on to rubble 4550 at the offense is starting to put up points there's only so much the other team can do and they play into our hands and what we want to do and as soon as that happened we got a good grasp on their office we were able to set it down the USC on to another tough thing Sun Devils Stadium in Tempe to play 14th ranked Arizona State it was definitely hard you know and and like I said before we we've been in those kinds of situations before I think we're in everything we were in the heat you're in the rain we're in the snow you know we're in the hail we played in the way games of a hundred thousand we've been in all kinds of different situations you know playing out in Arizona it was very hot you know that I think game day was there so it was all hyped up and everything once again the Trojans found themselves falling behind early in the game [Applause] [Music] [Applause] Keller mowing much to the right want to throw too much wants to throw over the middle throws in the back of the endzone [Applause] by the half yes you had built there leaked 18 points some of the ponies that game in the first half and it just seemed like we could do nothing right you know we were we got started off to a bad on a bad foot again a half time we were down 18 points and we had to adjust [Applause] with Matt Leinart struggling after the devastating late hit in the first half the Trojans turned to their power and speed combination of Glendale right Reggie Bush handoff LenDale White big hole after nine 25 he's at the 20 he's at the 10 he's in the end zone touchdown USC one back is butch he gets the call up the middle Hugo 15 10 5 touchdown USA I'm gonna go to the left handoff again [Applause] SC's defense bottled up the Sun Devil Anse intercepting quarterback Sam Keller three times in the second half white finished the game with two touchdowns and 197 yards rushing I think we pride ourselves in being a running football team in Smash Mouth one football team and we have a great offensive line guys who who love doing the football and you know I think in the end we just said put the game on the offense line shoulders and and that's what we decided to do when we came out that half and we were just smashing guys left to right you know and there was evident that they were doing all they could to stop liner and you know we recognized that and you know the coaches recognized that and gave me on the dirt sounds about cool on the downforce the final school was 38 28 and after four games USC had outscored their opponents in the second half 140 to 29 [Music] on top of the collegiate rankings for almost two years the Trojans expected to take the best shot every opponent had to give despite their one in four record the Arizona Wildcats came in to the Coliseum ready to shock the college football world [Applause] Maggy thousand fans fill the Coliseum expecting to see a Trojan Rock going into the game SC was favored by 38 points after three quarters Arizona hadn't managed to stay with the Trojans punch for punch and trailed by only seven points throwing long down the field for Mike Thomas he's nobody is a touchdown Arizona I'll say they're not out of the ball yet Arizona down by only one touchdown everybody looking that white to see if he gets to carry he does like four down whites in the end zone it's a touchdown USC Trojans have scored with LenDale White rumbling for a career-high four TDs USC finally took charge of the final quarter and one going away 42 to 21 very few football games live up to the height but the clash between USC and Notre Dame on October 15th definitely Sebastian [Music] [Applause] this was already the Trojans fourth game on the road and historic Notre Dame Stadium was jam-packed with over 80,000 fans you tried not to get in the hype of rivalries you know you try to let that be a fan media kind of thing but it's hard to you know especially with the tradition and there's been so many great games in the past and you know there's so much history in that Stadium and we were pulling up this day in at least two or three thousand of their fans were out did everything to stop they he'll turn their focus to us and rant or is embarrassing when making all types of chants badass and they've really fired us up and I think he did give us a little extra in the game a determined Reggie Bush added to his Heisman highlight [Applause] yeah he had some extraordinary plays in that game and it was that was one of those games when you could just feel Reggie's will and you could feel him and he was playing hard and fast and finishing and you know surprising and shocking he like he does and he has some great plays in that game playing purposely on tall grass and sending his players out and their so-called lucky green jerseys it seemed like early in the game Charlie Weis had an edge snapback belong gets the kicked away is it Bukowski catches at the 40 gets a block at the 15 he's at the toes at 40 he's at the 30 [Music] Notre Dame led at halftime 2114 the third time this season that the Trojans trailed going into the break after the break there was more from mr. Bush big hole up side 40 he's gone following a Notre Dame field goal early in the fourth quarter it was Bush again he lifted the Trojans with little more than five minutes left in the game [Applause] the Trojans have reclaimed the lead with five minutes of nine seconds remaining in the fourth quarter then quarterback Brady Quinn marched the Irish down the field [Applause] the stage was set for Minard push and company to make one of the most memorable touchdown drives in college football history and the Trojans will take their final timeout with a minute 32 remaining in the game one last way one last-gasp to see if they get a first down to keep this thing going if seems impossible need 9 yards to keep that dream alive at least that fourth and nine I want to say that we didn't have a doubt but it's really a tough situation [Applause] gets the snap drops the pass throws looking for Jared it's cut by Jarrett the morning 35 30 25 20 tackle 30 at the 15th maybe the 13 yard line nobody thought about the score or the situation that moment was just the next play and everybody did a job when he actually [Applause] liner drops the pass rolls left has to get rid of it he runs he dives he's in the end zone no he's not he dropped the ball out of bounds at the one-yard line the clock is stopped with five seconds remaining in the game the clock is continuing to run I don't know why the clock is continuing to run the IRS is stellar liner was out about liner was out of bounds and they're gonna have to the Trojans would have them play at the half yard line right seven seconds on the clock and liner will probably have to snap this thing and then down with seven seconds to go there on the one-yard line liner could sneak it in for a snore but it'd be truck if he tries to score and doesn't the Trojans will lose the game [Applause] liner will have to down this book is danggit or unique it in for a touchdown say spikes of that week is one the right clients have said Leinart sneaks towards the goal line he's in the endzone touchdown when three seconds to go the Trojans have scored with three seconds left he did not spike it he went into the endzone [Applause] with their dramatic last-second victory over Notre Dame the Trojans had taken a huge step toward making it to their third straight national title game and Reggie Bush had established himself as odds-on favorite to win the Heisman Trophy [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and I was I was just emotionally drained out of that game I never put past so much energy just mentally be out there on the field left out on the field after a game and it was just you know you just wanted to cry and hug all your teammates and tell everybody I want you to love them after a game like that [Applause] [Music] [Applause] such a great job at hanging that was so many opportunity to go somewhere else and you wouldn't do it because everybody saw it was everybody fights obviously till there's no time left on the clock there ain't a favorite moment in my life that I can see there's no time left and we just wait again we don't leave self-penned we got this frickin stage we demo we want to do for this day awesome stuff let's sing this song [Applause] with no rest for the weary USC left home again this time traveling to the Northwest to take on the Washington Huskies there would be no letdown after South Bend because Pete Carroll had the defending national champs ready to play Matt Leinart responded very well to a game plan short strong backs and quick passes and once again Reggie Bush electrified the collegiate football world with this magical punt return early in the second push after what quickly backwards makes the catch steps up to the 20 yet blog in the back pushing gets away at the 25 looking for a block up the sideline 40 he's at the 40 steps over and then goes the rest of the touchdown touchdown USC [Applause] Neal's about making a plate and making something happen we weren't down but no still a close game I think got that planning and I was happy about the opportunity to make that for that Oh a few minutes later Leinart found Dwayne Jarrett as well as the pac-10 record books liner throws the paid for Jared he's got it touchdown USC at Matt Leonard has just become the all-time pac-10 conference touchdown with his 86th touchdown pass passing and roots Walter into the number one spot of the pack templates it's a great honor and obviously there's some great quarterbacks who played in the pack panthan it to be on top of that with you know probably one day will be passed you know but it's cool to be up there right now in the third another liner to Jarrod hook up had everyone's jaw drop [Applause] in the end zone I think he was touchdown USC and I think that one's gonna stand up and the Trojans are off the board he catches it one hand just keeps it there with a guy draped on them you know getting the foot inbounds it was gonna be good I knew where I was at on the field so I used my body control just there you know pushing into the defender a little bit and you know just go up with my way in yeah I loved it you know because he it's the opportunity to present himself he can make all kinds of catches like that he does it all the time USC with the Huskies 51 to 24 for their 29th consecutive victory the party going keep going finally USC came back home to the Coliseum the latest BCS rankings had dropped USC to second behind the Texas Longhorns possibly providing the Trojans with a little extra motivation [Applause] [Applause] looking at Bush's lineup and looks back the other way now over the middle Jarrett's open touchdown play-action lying it over the middle Steve Smith is open he's got it touchdown USC usc's offensive machine came out hitting on all cylinders Matt Leinart asked for three scores and 232 yards in the first quarter alone the score after eight to six liner drops deep almost runs in the bush that throws to the end zone the Spencer trip stumbles gets up catches and waltzes into the end zone touchdown C Smith let's down USC and the rout is on straight up the middle gets at 19 years old my Luca Wow by games end USC had 40 first downs and over 740 yards on office while the D held approves to just 284 yards for the game I know for the first time it was the most complete game of the season for the trophies completely overwhelming Washington State 55 to 13 [Music] [Applause] [Music] dominate [Applause] [Music] [Music] Stanford came to the Coliseum for a game that matched up to longtime friends Cardinal head coach Walt Harris and Pete Carroll I always have liked to compete against my friends because overall we had a big night that night and didn't leave a lot of doubt in that game but sodium's completely dominated stem scoring on all seven possessions of the first half and getting everyone involved come around the left side right now tracing a can to the 40 35 30 down the sidelines of the 25 15 10 5 and he's in the end zone touchdown Brett seaboards shuts down USC pliner trucks pass on first down throws it to Jarrett he's open he's in the end zone he's got it he's got his hook down it's a touchdown USC it's complete and it is a touchdown USC Brett Davis with his career touchdown as a Trojan everybody getting in on the act touchdown USC USC went on to pound the carton 5121 extending their conference record winning streak to 31 and their amazing home winning streak to 25 game we had obviously some so I don't think revenge or anything but you know we remember what it felt like that was our last loss by this time losing a football game had become almost an aberration for the Trojans with 31 straight victories USC hadn't lost in two years but the stadium where they last lost a game just happened to be their next venue I mean you guys remember the overtime loss and how the crowd storm the field and everything after the loss to this day they're still living on the triple overtime and we put ourselves in a better situation to stop them and to end all other speculation about them being a team as good as us our team closed high-caliber [Music] this time around the Bears didn't have the firepower to stay with the Trojans lighter quick drop wants to run he will he'll run all the way at the end zone for a touchdown USC that liner making some superior decisions today again that leads the Copeland's to a better touchdown and SC's defense completely frustrated cal quarterback joe i you it's intercepted by gar now big that he falls down after he picks it off they you wants to throw on third goal from the 3 maybe he wants to throw he's in trouble he's sacked back at the 11 yard line it was great you know because in the past you know they they some people say they've had our number so just good to just go out there you know we had to do the compensate with two touchdown runs from Matt liner than three from tailback Lyndell white USC avenged their last loss in Berkeley by winning this one easily 35 to 10 [Music] for their eleventh contest of the season the number-one-ranked Trojans hosted some angry Bulldogs from central California 16th ranked Fresno State the fired up Bulldogs came to town ready to end us cease long winning streak with so much on the line this game would be a battle for the ages vinegar drops to pass looking in the end zone it is complete and it's a touchdown Fresno State Joe Fernandez now they're going wild in the Central Valley in a budget for the 4th time of the season the Trojans trailed at halftime this time 21 to 13 going Lachlan was a little different just because we're at home and when I used to being down at home you know we found ourselves and another dog fighting iseman trophy favorite Reggie Bush got the Trojans out fast in the third floor with this - to the one-yard line it would end up being one of the most thrilling quarters of USC football in recent memory [Applause] [Music] [Applause] he's at the door [Applause] ruff butters big necrotic [Applause] running yourself at throws it at the last second is [Applause] second [Music] [Applause] five he took the same route and he got the same result touchdown you are saved [Applause] u.s. see one this one fifty two forty two and Reggie Bush had one of the greatest performances of all time [Music] that was a pretty magical night for Reggie he was doing everything and he was having a ball you know you watch them all that he's cheerleading for everybody else and he just had have probably one of his favorite games I would think ever my office'll I was doing such a great job that day all I had to do was just make a few people miss and I was off to the races and almost every time I touch the ball that was a tough game was back and forth and it was almost like the last thing I the balls you know and you know a defense had some big plays but Reggie you know beat those guys we were all just enjoying the show from taste truth and we needed every bit you know everything he had that night that was a very well contested game [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] crowd going crazy all that gonna check this out how about it boy number five Reggie goes from 5 2014 I totally [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] at 11:00 and oh there was only one game left standing in the way of the Trojans and the BCS Championship game of the rosin [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] over 92,000 fans filled the Coliseum during the season USC set school and pac-10 records for attendance by averaging almost 91 thousand per home game on SC's very first series the game plan was made crystal clear as the Trojans drove 70 yards without completing a single pass attempt you know that's always exciting for the offensive line when they so when they set that up in the game plan because we love on the ball you know like I said we have a great history in it sticking with the game plan Linda white and Reggie Bush ran all over the booth [Applause] ducked under a would-be tackler at the 4:35 and at a 32 yard line handoff LED tail light up the middle what touching outside Charlie see touchdown record to the Trojans lead 16 nothing in the let's go check he's a [Applause] except one [Applause] s-see would finish the day with 430 yards on the ground the score at halftime was 31 6 USC Jackson chasing down Pete Carroll down on the Trojan sideline John let's go down there right now all right coach first half and Papi's with me scripting it any better what do you need the remover is everything than burgers we needed to come out frickin smoking in the third floor that's what you got to do we're gonna get so fired up and we'll get Jack to do this thing right fired up and ready to go SC scoring assault on the Bruins continued in the second half putz - the way and sort of like Dennis Durbin seventies cut it while it was still up in the air pocket still has time thought let day away touchdown us [Applause] USC manhandled their crosstown rivals 66 to 19 it was the Trojans seventh straight win over the Bruins once again Pete Carroll's gang strategy and inspiration demonstrated why he's never lost to UCLA to have that last game of the year before the national championship opportunity pop up and it's your archrival and the place is rocking and then to play that well I thought it was a great culmination for the season in a great statement that we were still improving by the end of the year for us to you know never have lost you know to them the most of guys on our team never have lost to UCLA is and it's a great thing you know for us a great accomplishment for us yeah UCLA you know we've had their number for a while and I never lost to him in five years which is great i can you know i bragging rights for the rest of my life and you know my final home game of his senior an emotional game but just a game that always a number with the win USC streak of 34 tied for sixth best of all time and gave the trojans their wish a chance to play in the BCS Championship game for an unprecedented third straight national title [Applause] we'll do everything we can to represent in the highest quality and the great style build the beer this is all we ever dream of doing and get in the Rose Bowl [Applause] for two of the past three years the Heisman Trophy has been awarded to a USC Trojan Hassan Palmer won the trophy in 2002 and last year Matt Leinart became the school's sixth Heisman winner going into this year's ceremony it looked to be a three-man race between Reggie Bush Matt Leinart and Texas quarterback ven Xie in truth the award was never in doubt as Bush won the seventh Heisman in school history by a landslide without further delay the Heisman trust is proud to announce the winner of the 2005 Heisman Memorial Trophy the winner is Reggie Bush Bush received 900 points more than young he also finished first in all six voting regions and appeared on 99% of the ballots a Heisman Trophy record just to be a part of that elite classes is some specialness I mean you know whenever they're forgetting it's gonna be here forever you know no matter what and even when I'm you know long gone from this earth you know the Heisman Trophy still be there with seven Heisman trophies located at Heritage Hall USC has tied Notre Dame for the most ever and no university has ever produced three winners in just four years I really think that's one of one of the outstanding accomplishments of the time we've been here for that recognition to come to our school and just to single out one guy in the country and three out of four years and I think that's pretty remarkable I think it's even more unusual than the championships and I mean I just think it's incredible that we were able to be in that situation in our case can you in that kind of fashion in one of the most anticipated games of all time USC entered the BCS championship game with Texas as a seven point favorite this game would end up being one of the highest rated college football games of the past 220 years unfortunately the Trojans played completely out of character missing on several opportunities that would have changed the course of the game there just happened to be one of those games where a lot of things didn't go our way a lot of questionable cause maybe questionable plays made by players including myself there was any number of plays that could have happened and in such a close game when when they went in their favor you know that was enough and any one of them could have could have spelled the victory for us like if it's just the game you know that's why teams don't win you know forever they can't because of you know freakish situations like that that's you know the ball rolls funny every now and then by games end that had taken just about every twist and turn going in favor of the Longhorns and facing a fourth down on the 8 yard line they found themselves in position to bring us seize historic rain on top of college football to an end it was a heroic battle between two great collegiate football programs but on this night Texas squeezed out the victory 41 to 38 I've always said that when whoever beats this I hope after you're gonna have to play great you know and they're gonna have to play a great football game and they're gonna have to take advantage of everything to be this and I thought we played real well and get a lot of great things and my second half was beautiful you know the offense didn't fantastic jobs for and force rated rising Matt was just phenomenal and you know it gets overshadowed he had a phenomenal second half but what we've accomplished as a team at USC for the past three years four years really is unbelievable and you know 34 wins in a row is something that might never be done again you know you never know so and I mean it's been a great run it's it's unfortunate ends like that but at the same time it's like you know we've been a David a part of something real special we're not gonna take a step back in any direction we know we were two inches from some women and again you know so we feel very good about about our season and all of that and really we recognize that Texas was in the right place at the right time we got a great although the Trojans bid for a three-peat felt inches short the accomplishments of the team the senior class and the NFL bound juniors cannot be overlooked the senior class ended up with four consecutive BCS appearances for pac-10 conference titles two national championships and a 54 and 10 overall record Matt Leinart set a new pac-10 record for TD passes with 99 was a three-time All America selection a Johnny Unitas Award winner and the school's second quarterback in three years to win the Heisman Trophy do slit we had been a dominant force on the offensive line for the past two seasons and his career culminated with selections to several all-america teams in 2005 as for the NFL bound juniors after finishing with 1740 yards rushing and 2,890 all-purpose yards Reggie Bush became the seventh Heisman Trophy winner in Rochin history his average of 8.7 yards per carry this season was an astounding figure and he will surely go down in history as one of the most electrifying runners to ever play the collegiate game lyndale white otherwise known as the law for his ability to keep opposing defenses honest leaves USC as one of the most prolific inside runners since Rickey Bell he finished his career with a school record 52 TDs and over 3,100 yards rushing all pac-10 safety Darnell Bing was one of the greatest athletes to ever play in the USC secondary Bing had 28 star and six interceptions in his Trojan cool despite this exodus of talent the future still looks as bright as it with many underclassmen anxiously awaiting for their time in the Trojan football spot
