[Music] no doubt there's no doubt that we're gonna learn it's not splitting here he's you know this mantra send the message we left no doubt we do leave no doubt 1 1 2 4 we left no doubt thinking all the minds of everybody across the country are here the more she [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] hello everyone I'm Tim Ryan and welcome to Heritage Hall you know the 2004 national championship really speaks for itself but if you think about it it was a unique and remarkable season the USC Trojans were undefeated that hasn't happened here in 32 years they started the season number one they finished the season number one that's wire-to-wire champions and what that means folks is every Saturday teams had their crosshairs on the big bullseye on that Cardinal in gold jersey and USC was still able to get it done [Music] only worse thank you know we were being a lot of cool back and it was just sent us to stay focused only hard cause Carlisle preaches downstairs that they train a little phones that it's all dog sentence for the best cognition team in the country and we're the smartest team in the country we don't make mistakes again we don't make mistakes we don't put ourselves in and integration we win every play and we don't lose it at the end that's what we're about that's what USC is that's why we're the best it's clearly very special thing we got going at this school because even after we won the Rose bowling name you know number one in the nation a national holiday everybody still wanted to come back and work from where everybody stayed hungry and there's no one no one person the team that felt like you know we accomplished everything you know everybody still wanted to come back to work hard I like being the hunter I like people having fear of me I like being number one and so that's our legacy at yes [Music] the Trojans faced a daunting challenge to open the 2004 season that was a great challenge for us it was great opener the one that we needed you know I looked at that game that this one I was looking at the schedule as a game that would most fit the matchup that we may be able to find if we got to the Orange Bowl at the end of the year going across country in different weather situation huge crowd all of that stuff a lot of hype is like a ball game going in he had to be at least 80% of their trans Virginia Tech fans so we really in there you know with my cells and then with the little things that we did have and you know we played in the hostile environment told you brother's been coming together for a long time fellas we get a chance to collide show time let's make sure everybody just plays your ass off and we support one another the whole time great effort over 91,000 spectators were on hand to watch the opening game of the college football season the Trojans made the game Randall drops to throw looks over the middle it is batted up to 40 the 40 yard line the Virginia Tech military then the nation was introduced to Reggie Bush little flip behind as a screen that Bush out nowhere [Music] [Applause] on a street pasture it was but the USC offense became stagnant the second quarter the Hokies put together two scoring drives and the Trojans found themselves trailing 10 to 7 at the half right now to go get make something happen everybody just play do your stuff do your stuff we'll be fine we'll be fine let's go they know we're suggesting they're scared baby thanks scared there's no kind of plane thing that I want you to get your energy going Matt Leinart got hot in the second half completing 11 to 13 passes and once again Bush provided a spark drops to pass again looking long has a man open but he can't catch up already God rookie goes to the 20 15 10 5 touchdown us a plant lighter for Reggie Bush take the lead bushes 53-yard touchdown cats put SC up 1410 after a Hokie field row Leinart and Bush connected for a third time long throw look every bus he's wide open [Applause] that was a design no wear out it was kind of a the kind of case of pig no what could we see whether slant and if you have some encourage with the line back because we ran out there with you it feels just a great call you know at the right time and I'm working out for us and all wide open and they with it how my team and that's great big guys man with the score 2113 quarterback Brian Randall tried to rally the Hokies but Mike Patterson capped off a monster game with a forced fumble that the Trojans recovered Ryan Collins field goal made the final score 24:13 and the trojan locker room was in a mood to celebrate look like them told you showed up to play in the back room today very special has happened for us since we've been together we have found a way to finish better than anybody in the world man and you did it again the night I'm so proud if there was a doubt in your mind in the first half I can understand that it wasn't quite the way we thought it would go it ain't always gonna be easy people gonna give us their best shot every day they did and they got to ask kicked in the fourth quarter just the way we always want to do it don't they just make sure we have all the way through because you know can you win in the first quarter how about Reggie Bush [Applause] got a great a great opportunity now fellas let's be classy as hell we're gonna take care of business wait screwing this thing up we just got started this was a hell of a matchup it was a really fired up football team with a bunch of good athletes good coaches the whole thing check this out when we get back we're preparing to play in the Coliseum it'll be so much fun BB follow out the freaking rafters it comes through our Georgian it's gonna be awesome present sample you better be at that game we have [Applause] [Music] the Trojans came home to the Coliseum and home is where the heart is just has the record-setting number of fans that came through the gates in 2004 make no doubt about it the swagger is back [Applause] in fact the Trojans played in front of more than a half a million of their own and shattered school and conference attendance records that dated back decades the evening was highlighted by the unveiling of the national championship banner [Applause] the coaches were just as excited as the players I like it I like it it always will be forever has been about us what's really good about that what's really good about that it's just what the kind of guys that we have right in here the guys we love we love each other we love the things that we do together you love your coaches we get to play for one another today it will always be about us leave nothing out there leave nothing out there let's have ourselves a hell of a day when Dale white powered the Trojan offense with the first of three touchdown runs Whitewood finished the game with 123 yards on only 14 carries Colorado State was driving early in the second quarter but a senior leader on the Trojan defense made a big play their sector [Applause] on the sidelines [Applause] MacGruder goats interception gave us see great field position mat liner immediately looked to throw it deep and he found Chris McCoy at the wine man but he made the catch down at the one-yard line from their white pulled his way in for his second TD the Trojan offense proved too much for the Rams D has completed the free yard this gauge that's three touchdowns right tonight the USC defense made another big play this time it was Jason leeks recovering a fumble [Applause] liner delayed a 96-yard drive with Reggie Bush getting his turn at pay dirt the Trojans went into the half of 28 to 0 opportunity for us how to play this game right now I want to make sure that it's really clear they're gonna come out on with their offense when they get their chance they gotta run the football they can't just come out and throw it all the time you have to send the message to them defense that you're there you understand how to play football all down in distances don't give them a freaking breath air and running the football then it'll turn into a throwing game later on but make it happen that way offense we're up first right now this is time to finish a football game with attitude [Applause] [Music] the common aim intercepted by Matt Ritter good his second of the night liner hooked up with Smith for a 35 point advantage the Trojans intercepted two consecutive grand basses [Applause] and intercepted then liner gave a birthday presents an 18 year old freshman Duane Jarrett expense I just looked it from me to her way and he just told me just to grow up get broth and you know that's what our big and I had a little bit of jobs like two two types and Chris has so you know I was a little bit down on myself about that but I kept going to probably got it you know this great experience you know all I feel better if I thank you even the Trajan defense got a chance to put up some points [Applause] I think that's why Gert had a big hit on that play to get that thing started but yeah that was fun but it's always fun to see the big guys rumble final score USC 49 Colorado state zip nothing the number one ranked Trojans had no doubters on this day number one ranked USC made its first trip ever to Provo Utah home of Brigham Young University it was a homecoming of sorts for offensive coordinator Norm Chow who spent 27 years as an assistant at BYU after a scoreless first quarter the Trojans briefly fell behind three nothing but the team responded with 21 unanswered and there is one scored against the you tonight there's books right 66-yard after being job touchdown meanwhile the defense was led by all-american Shaun Cody who recorded three sacks in the ball game after halftime the Trojans continued to pile up yardage Reggie Bush enjoyed the first 100-yard rushing day of his USC career and LenDale White also went over the century mark when Mandel like he said we've done a good job when company challahwood well in games and you know it was hard for Davis is to gain time both of us then in the fourth quarter senior running back Lee Webb joined the story party with his first career touchdown it was a great moment for our younger guys and guys that look up to me and had so much fun with him as a friend and a teammate to see him get that opportunity and bang at home and he you know he's smoking that is all pretty you know pretty well and everybody had fun with it and gel exact that's about it so it's just a kind of an exchange of respect to know in an obvious way from you guys to me players and coaches were in a mood to celebrate the 42:10 road victory [Applause] [Music] first off never let's never take let's never take these victories so lightly that we don't have a blast with them and that's a beautiful night of football we went out there we seized the momentum of the night these accomplishments are hard man they're hard to just you get these ones we're just gonna keep tacking one tonight was a special night to come back to Utah to come back to BYU or the guy spent 27 years [Applause] [Applause] you guys [Applause] [Music] USC traveled to the farm to take on Stanford in the 2004 pac-10 opener a difficult place to play there's not a lot of energy in that Stadium you know and it does challenge you to challenge you some in that regard just an unusual kind of an environment but in some the leaders you know he just felt like some more than right knowing in the warm-ups and we're rolling up for the game he just felt like you know some wasn't right to the 20 s-see grab early momentum liar you okay [Applause] with the score 1000 feet about a blowout but Stanford quickly regroup behind quarterback Trent Edwards while the USC offense sputtered stanford pulled out every trick in the book [Applause] we started really fascinating but they were there up to the task and we walked through and stopped him when they they did a nice job on offense probably their best game of the year late in the second quarter Roy was able to respond looking looking back Cecilia but the Cardinal had time for another highlight play [Applause] [Applause] ten points in the season I think for us emotionally as a football team because they score guys the end of the half they're out ahead of us I clearly remember as we approached in the locker room there the banter of the players they they they were already on the subject that we weren't down the first floor and eight the second quarter it starts happening in the third in the fourth quarter we take this something together y'all know that but you got to do it by doing things right that's what's most important you remember ain't no made-up word for it let's go take it piece by piece by piece and put this thing right back in our control [Applause] after giving up 291 yards in the first half the Trojan D surrendered only 36 yards and two first downs the rest of the ball game meanwhile Matt Leinart looked to hook up with his favorite target [Applause] shikaka liner called his own number in the Trojans trail 28 to 24 in the fourth quarter USC still needed a big play from someone Reggie Bush answered the call [Music] well as a spectacular quite gosh that was an unbelievable player guys making mr. spinnin and running he gets determination Reggie bless you really really show some tremendous fighting spirit in that giving three plays later it was third and long and Chris McVoy made his biggest play ever passes five inside the 31st Dail white carried the load from that point the defense held off the Cardinal on their last Drive in USC escape with a hard-fought victory that was really at the funny moment I think as a team you know is so what kind of coach we have to come back from from a deficit and had two touchdowns in to come back and be with a solid team away it showed a lot of wet set a lot of character sort of what type of team you have and that we could come back and it really kind of was stepping selflessness season when the 2004 schedule came out there was one game that stood out to everybody that was against the Cal Bears and was all said and done it was probably college football's game of the year over 90,000 football fans flooded the Coliseum to see number 1 USC take on number 7 cow ESPN's College GameDay crew made their first ever visit to downtown Los Angeles the Trojans were looking to avenge their only loss from the 2003 season it was hot that - it almost like a national championship game you know I mean it was you know we lost him last year's only lost last year you know it's become a rival I was saying there's a lot of talent on each team so it's gonna be a great game and it was their opening possession the Trojans were faced with a key fourth down for content put it up she goes away [Music] Brunswick New Jersey and makes the catch down it was a in route and you know Matt I seen is coming to me looking at me the whole way so you know he threw it up high and I just have to go up and just make a play and as I made the play you know I got flipped in the air but you know I still held on to the ball to keep the drive alive so you know that definitely was the start to fly nerd them connected with LenDale White to give SC the lead after Mike Pearson recovered a fumble Matt Leinart looked to go Venus passes away down the middle computer to Steve Smith USC Ryan Killeen kicked a field goal for a 10 to nothing lead runner Tom Malone had a big game and his 62 yard kick resulted in another Cal turnover the USC turned into three more points then the teams traded field goals before Cal finally got in the end zone with the Rodgers TD pass [Applause] Rogers finished the half a perfect 14 for 14 but most of those were underneath we tried to keep everything in front of us you know if we have to give up those who know those five you're out stuff like that we're this rally up my photographer you know he what he was settling for those files Kaleem kicked his third field goal to half and the Trojans went into the locker room up 16 to 10 this is second half time this start time to go to work right don't penalize nope just executing all the way through this before [Applause] in the second half Leonard again hooked up with number two Lynott he's back to throw as time passes away she's completed the Steve Smith Smith is taken out of at the 12-yard line unfortunately for the Trojans Smith injured his leg on the play and their leading receiver would miss five games so Matt Leinart looked to his big freshman target jarett's TD catch could SC of 2310 but then rogers was able to lead cow on another long scoring drive tailback Marshawn Lynch punched it in then it was time for Reggie Bush looking up into the Sun that's a good kick it's two yards deep in the end my boys finally picked up by Washington - the 1015 up to the 2025 or here ago [Applause] the 16 yard line but a rare Leinart mistake gave the ball back to cow then Paterson made another all-american Jinja come out of there [Applause] late in the fourth quarter cow was on the verge of a monumental upset with first and goal from the USC nine what followed were four place that became part of usc's story football history [Music] [Applause] zone it is incomplete it was intended for Noah Smith Justin Wyatt Edmonton it's a fight for those basketball players on the 9 yard line they're you know just ready for a place where you know bigger job all day you're tired and you know people and they'll take some time I'll just so this played ball for the better if I just show me where we got and you know Manny came up with a big set [Music] [Applause] shopping it's ended for Jeff McArthur defended by Eric Wright [Applause] Roger swirls it's just that we doing about stopping the team goal line stand bring your hometown when he gave me and there was awesome I love the way that benefit yeah I read the challenge over in the build rep and in the Coliseum was crazy and nuts and all that and there was this this bunch of guys system banded together to win a football game you know at that moment that standard in other chapter in Trojan football or the final score was 23 17 in the Trojans were 5 and OH [Music] [Applause] for the second week in a row the Trojans hosted an undefeated pac-10 rival number 15 ranked Arizona State was led by record-setting quarterback Andrew Walter the original state game was a game that brought the challenge in itself I guess the immediate challenge to do that can you come back after a big win and play well and our guys just came out for a sold-out Coliseum watch the USC offense jump out to an early lead drops the ball man facing any steps away Arizona State nine yard line Walter got the Sun Devils in scoring position on their next series but Big Sean Cody kept them off the scoreboard later in the quarter liner tossed his second touchdown lineup looking to throw a forest away linebacker Matt grew to good made his fourth interception of the year and returned it all the way to the Sun Devil 19:00 like look for his favorite red zone target but we saw woody to be in car camping that's a good defense and we know just a matter of just gaining that confidence and really since the power burn if you just took office up 28 to 7 late and a half the trojan offensive machine didn't let up Jarett it's now a footrace to the corner of the then the Sun Devils made a costly mistake they punted the Reggie Bush his face he made the death at the 34-yard line I've been Santa he's the best player in Africa most versatile desi knows don't stop the highlight reel and liner head time to throw his for TD pass liner look and beat by his man [Applause] Jarett Jarret tried a school record with his three touchdown catches I know what I have to do I just have to get comfortable and you know let the game come to me grab their league players and you know that's what I've been doing this here USC led at the half forty two to seven the most points by a Trojan team and a half since 1981 after halftime the Trojan D continued to dominate [Applause] way back inside the 25-yard line Sean Cody Walter was held to 181 yards passing and was picked off twice after entering the game with only one interception all year [Applause] - intercepted by when the final gun sounded USC had a 45 to 7 victory and a firm hold on first place in the pac-10 traditional pac-10 power Washington came to the Coliseum for USC third straight home game with an election right around the corner Trojan fans did some creative campaigning from the start it was apparent the USC's defense was simply too much for the Huskies to handle and we started out really raw defensively and really they didn't have a chance to neck in and get going and it was a great great defensive weekend preparation for the option football they were going to see and it took like five minutes but the Trojan offense was off to a slow start not until late in the second quarter did Matt Leinart get SC into the end zone quick drop throw on the plate tenant to half the team was focused on putting out more points I want to say I will see you respond right now I know you didn't like what happened in the first up faint score then you got freaking close yet we're gonna make sure to keep that going for office let's execute let's do what we know how to do frosty Rucker recovered a fumble on the Huskies first play in the third quarter then the Trojans got behind LenDale White and off [Applause] the bruising sophomore tailback finished the game with two touchdowns and 93 yards rushing as USC logged almost 40 minutes of possession time would sell everyone like pretty much like glue ready we're gonna have a second half and we're gonna take it to him there's no way the fans over but we know we can win the first second or third floor is all about 4,000 finish today midway through the third quarter liner hooked up with senior wide out Jason Mitchell it was Mitchell's first career TD [Applause] with reserves playing most of the fourth quarter special teams stand out Desmond Reed scored his first career touchdown after a tightrope walk down the right sideline what meanwhile the Trojan defense never let up holding Washington to 113 total yards and just six first downs the 38 to nothing final was USC's first shutout over the Huskies since 1965 [Music] after three weeks of sunny skies at the Coliseum USC traveled to Pullman Washington where they were faced with a hungry opponent and also wet stormy conditions that included some pregame hail it's always kind of windy and cold the president as luck would have it you know the clouds came in life led to poor game time and not just with a bunch of hail you know and in 3d and warmups and their fans thought that that was gonna affect us in some way all right guys right now they will difficult open to having going Phase II got more excited about the fact that we're challenged by the weather that it wasn't momentum immediately swung toward the Trojans on the opening kickoff feel advised onside kick gave SC great field position and five plays later Reggie Bush capitalized [Applause] see just like that after Desmond Reid recovered a fumble on the ensuing kickoff it took only two more plays for LenDale White to punch it in [Applause] and we're only two and a half minutes into the ballgame in his 14 and up midway through the first quarter Reggie Bush struck again this time Reggie fields it at the 43 [Applause] in the second quarter Matt Leinart connected with the Wayne Jarrett the NSCs all-american defensive tackles teamed up to make a big play here comes a blitz again Sean Cody Alexa gotta made the hit Patterson cleans up those two tackles that we've been talking about white scored his second TD and the score was 35 to nothing at the half [Applause] just because we love playing football you need a helper half everybody gets a chance to contribute well it won't be work in the third quarter Jared scored his second touchdown [Applause] meanwhile SC's defense held the Cougars to a hundred and sixty-five total yards and 11 first downs and fours four turnovers Washington State hit manage to score but the outcome was never in doubt as USC cruised to a 42 to 12 victory let's never forget let's never forget about winning thousand how sweet it is to come together take ours take you on the road and go put it together again I'm telling you scaring the piss out of anybody's girl since we got to go on the road one more big trip next week let's make sure we knock that thing yeah it ain't gonna be a whole lot different in this setting it's gonna be very similar we know how to do this expect it's really wrong so let's make sure we take advantage of this and make it a hell of a finish to this road season right we come back three games at home in LA after that let's make sure we get this done it was a cold and foggy night in Corvallis as USC prepared to take on Oregon State the setting was so unique with the Fargo is their very very interesting night to go out there [Music] Oregon State was fired up and took advantage of the Trojans lack of experience playing in poor visibility to field goals and a Derrick Anderson touchdown pass but Oregon State up 13 to nothing in the second quarter Hobson with the fog I was first time we ever played and that's how the atmosphere you know with the fog had hardly been able to see and affect this a little bit but you know [Applause] frustration right there slider 24 the Enzo straight back to the end zone [Applause] he was covered as well as you the government man what a shot beyond for this USC Trojan offense finally getting on the board putting together some semblance down 13 to 7 at the half the Trojans were feeling confident what's gonna happen is what we do right now from this point on we got about two minutes before I gather I want this house to ourselves low push the Toulouse interception gave SC early momentum in the third then liner once more look to his big tight end for just wider but zip it down on the streak and scores number 86 is too dangerous to be left that open Anderson led the Beavers in SC territory and was looking for the go-ahead score the score was still 14 to 13 when OSU punted early in the fourth quarter push the pick [Applause] later in the fourth Lindale white pounded it in as part of his 100 yard night OSU scored a late touchdown but the Trojans recovered the onside kick and went on to celebrate a 28 to 20 when on an eerie crazy night in Oregon [Music] this was that hell of a night it wasn't easy at all and what it was exactly what the Georgians canikin answer to we needed to get back together we need to come to that locker room that's a great second half finish all the way through the whole thing both sides of the ball he just took the game over now they couldn't do nothing about it it was a great finish one more time [Applause] nice - guys - I want to recognize the two coaches that just will not fricking let it up you can't get many more from the guys who can get from T Davis how about the way [Applause] [Applause] Oh Jojo [Applause] the Trojans returned to the Coliseum for a homecoming matchup with Arizona and their new head coach Mike Stoops you have a chance to play against a new program new coach Laura always one-sentence send a message to him that the first time they failure that you can play I'm tough and they can expect us we'd always be and we wanted to leave a message with him that might carry over after a sluggish start the Trojans scored on the first play of the second quarter welcome to the end zone throws touchdown catches made by David kirpan later in the half Desmond Reeve did his best impersonation of mat liner here's the reverse Desmond Reed he's gonna throw he's got Jared at the 30 25 20 15 10 five and out of bounds at about the three yard line one play later Lindale white did his thing for a 14 to three Trojan Lee hey check this out does when we come back in this locker room we're coming back in this locker room - champion you're talking about [Applause] after halftime the Trojans march downfield on an 11-play Drive and this is white and white stick to the end zone number 21 powered his way to his fourth 100-yard game of the year including this 54 yard Rumble that set up another TD 35 spins off a tackler at the 25 the 20 and finally down at the 18-yard line Lindale wife taking it on his own play wiping it back behind Sam Baker taking it to the endzone and handed to the left look at Pete Carroll Dwayne Jarrett set a career high with 144 yards receiving including two more touchdown grabs I don't throw again throws for Jarrett touchdown let's come straight back lighter look into the end zone got Jarrett touchdown Trojans the defense was led by low foot to juke who's 11 tackled Justin Wyatt had an interception off a Dallas Arts deflection and defensive and Lawrence Jackson made a pick in the fourth quarter to thwart a wildcat drive kicked off my Jackson with a 35 and tailback Herschel Dennis scored his first touchdown of the year and USC enjoyed a forty nine to nine win the victory clinched the pac-10 title and a berth in the Rose Bowl with the Trojans and their fans had loftier ambitions [Applause] I'm Dave Davis president of the Tournament of Roses in the Rose Bowl this is Bill Johnston was chairman of the Rose Bowl management committee congratulations on the fact n we'd love to have you in the Rose Bowl however as an SC fan I just soon see in Miami [Applause] with a bi-week on the schedule the Trojans had time to rest some injuries and also have some fun I had in the [Music] November 27th a capacity crowd packed the Coliseum to see number 1 USC take on Notre Dame in the 76 meetings of the classic rivals it would be the last game in the Coliseum for the Trojans seniors the Notre Dame game is a great event its Coliseum you know when this biggest things this way we're having to buy to get ready for it all that just made it even more fun with heightened tension of trying to finish the season off on the food you know all of that I just add to it another day if you're not ready to go if they were ready to give us a best shot and started really fast notre-dame jumped out to an early 10 to 3 leave by scoring on its first two possessions Irish fans were hopeful for an upset but Matt Leinart would put an end to those hopes that's what s/he has been doing to opponents all year Leinart Jared had time for one more big play before halftime [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] and we just battling and weathers to the air through the ground on defense we find a way to do listen up listen up is the last chance after the half the Trojans kept pouring it on [Applause] Steve Smith enjoyed his first game back after a broken leg sidelined him for five games [Applause] and the Trojans junior quarterback needed just one more teeny pass to tie a school record that letterhead breaking he just he answered the call to become true for his last shot the costume for the season and it happens to be that it's prior to the Heisman voting and all the rest in similar fashion especially at a couple of years back there met 20 of his huge game that has made the place for him everywhere and basic touches and potentially were great and put together a fantastic game that I think clearly you know gave him a better opportunity to realize 400 yards passing the mat liner the defense shut out the Irish in the second half this chick hearn the late chick hearn used to say at the Laker broadcasts when it seemingly was decided that attend the refrigerator s-see celebrated a 41 210 victory their third consecutive 31 point win over Notre Dame [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] let's make sure that we understand how grateful you need to be if you guys could realize that four years ago we came here and got this thing going these seniors were here and they were here when things started to turn around and they've been a huge part they have been guys that have believed in what we've been doing they've kept pulling at it all the way putting you guys through this thing they've done a fantastic job saying there's this point in for a great master artists we've been through together in season offseason or the hard work now when people have me how am i doing I can only say one thing can't complain feel good to be number one [Applause] my family and it's been a blessing just to be here and thank you all for contributing to a wonderful five years you know and it's it's special boys we're holding on to this thing and we've got one more game to go and let's go get this understand now I work ain't done cross now all that stuff we're going to do a week like we always do but it's any time you get to play in the Rose Bowl it's special let's go to the Rose Bowl to the Trojans return to the Rose Bowl for the crosstown showdown with UCLA the team knew they were one went away from the berth in the Orange Bowl in the BCS title game [Music] Reggie Bush got SC off to a fast start and cutting back and and you know at first I wasn't sure if it was gonna be just a first down and a big game first and then slowly but surely gonna turn into a long run and then I got some great blogs I mean Katie bought from Duane Jed whoo-hoo Craig back don't know one of their DB's kind of added a little flip and there's on tourist hand and just make a little bit more special guys up ten seven in the second quarter the Trojans once again gave it to number five [Applause] and so I think he's the best player in college football most versatile doesn't know stuff for like my ability to slow the game down and just try to bring it you know to my level to where you know I almost can see it's almost like I can see everything on the field Reggie just exploded with this huge huge went when early in the game he also had another great run later on just fantastic effort from Reggie and just tons of yards are made and really with the stadium up you know and got us going Ryan Phillippe took the second field goal just before the half to put SC up 20 to 10 at the break since then we got on this in this program did we ever say you can win the game in the first half so we all understand that real clearly from this point on I know you're feeling it it feels good to have this this game going the way it's going right now just get back out there play 30 more minutes okay I want you to I want you to execute in this half just like we always do that fourth quarter is just around the corner all the way through it at all phases everybody's squ please turn it up I want to kiss to this point we want to do things just exactly like we do put it on me what dude let's go in the second half the trojan senior kicker continued his perfect game [Applause] 37:42 and 34 the will star would get performance in the game you know came from a chicken right we have terrific football game they really finish strong in the season after having some some no matific type of issues in the number of year came acne and the big dance is picked up great he finished on a great street this is his fifth if he can make it number 16 scored 17th on a school record five field goals to go along with to PA tease the Trojans held off a spirited Bruins comeback late in the fourth quarter Matt Cassel recovered an onside kick [Applause] the backup and Jason leeches interception in the final seconds sealed the deal for the trip to Miami final score Trojans 29 Bruins 24 it was SC six consecutive win over their crosstown rivals first off to hang together all the way through all of this time with all the hype and apply and all that stuff and just to stay on focus and stay on course does is a great accomplishment it's a great lesson for for whatever we're doing in the future we've got to hang together no matter what that what the situation is as we stay strong we stay tight ain't nothing ever going to get between the stars and it's a great illustration of it and we didn't just do it for a couple days or a couple of weeks on a couple months but we've been doing it for a whole freaking year two years away [Applause] wait guys we love your energy we loved you when you were down there two years ago and we're glad you're coming back so [Applause] and now without further delay the Heisman trust is proud to announce the winner of the 2004 Heisman Memorial Trophy and the winner is Matt Lionheart from there's no vacuum when I got to New York and all you have said now you want to learn the trophy but you a didn't there don't near there you wanna hear the one of the five guys left to that and take that home but when you can when I warned there's just a sad just was just good disbelief and I was coming soft you don't think about everyday in it don't beam up for the Heisman Trophy winner [Applause] [Music] 2005 started with a BCS dream matchup number one versus number two it was USC taking on an undefeated Oklahoma and Miami treated both teams like royalty players were serenaded by the Trojan band and surrounded by the Trojan faithful play for one another stay together and we'll take this home and we'll run away with it baby right now we're heading to the beach party so orange is over there big party everyone's gonna be there you should be there too I'm gonna go swimming though all fun aside the team made final preparations to take on the Sooners nothing got in their way my biggest concern was how we would match up athletically so maybe they were so good then they were just better than us a fighter plane that might make a difference in the game but as we got closer to the game the preparation stayed you know in account even line like we always hoped it would and then we were focused me a great great work the guys were just attentive and energetic and responsive throughout the process even when we're here and we're 2 week before Christmas week after Christmas and Daniel and Lanny was it just was beautifully done here so there was no reason by the time [Music] four days into 2005 football fans across the country tune in for the most highly anticipated BCS title game ever Arcos headus compared to the force at that time you climax at the right time one thing I want you to do [Music] the Trojan offense looks sharp on its very first play with the drive stalled and Oklahoma promptly went on a 92 yard march play action for white throws in the end zone and it is fought a touchdown [Applause] Matt Leinart responded by leading the Trojans into Oklahoma Territory liner drops the pass being chased rolls left throws over the middle it is caught beautifully out Steve Smith eggs Oh first O'Doul lighters is lifted for me and he basically swings it in there and I just you know gonna make the tug bad one across the middle I figured I'd kind of prepared this for the whole game just to grab the momentum and in a season of highlight plays Dominique Birds sword into Trojan rolling away from the pressures liner throws lucky for Dominique bird in the end zone [Applause] you see the Chester Dominique babe you know that that was a great plan there was a great player who slipped what you doing you see does that make plays he did you know Matthew a baller was behind him we designed an affair with quickly we were late getting the ball out so we had the new to do it and then he makes a great great player he just like that linear surface here what started with the Blitz appoints reminiscent of the 1974 USC Notre Dame game January 4th 2005 he came a date for the ages to kick is away and along sport bounces takes a Trojan hop down inside the five rolls [Applause] sting handoff to white he runs into the line at the five he's down towards the white he's down [Applause] we brought dr. Turner was it just that was a story to get whoever didn't turn the ball over was not going to learn that's how it was written anything the Trojan defensive line was getting to the scene who's Jason White forcing him into poor throws King downfield down the middle get random Jones just lobs one up to nobody in particular and it is intercepted [Applause] oceans pick it off Jason leach with another for USC at turnover number two for Oklahoma Louis white thank you liner men went to work on the sooner secondary collider goes a little faith jarred up in the air makes the catch comes down with the we didn't want to say that you know and usually a little bit dead and then went right back after the game to see if we keep this good reaction for liner looking long downfield for Jared again he's wide open you the corner he went up on the Blitz and you know I passed the safety Matt read back he was doing up a good neighbor thing about 21 to 7 the Trojan deed didn't let up white takes at the shotgun on third and 14 being crows as you sit he's down inside the 20 [Applause] it took Leinart only three plays to put SC up by three touchdowns Busch comes in short motion this way throw over the middle of Smith makes the catch of the endzone a great catch [Applause] well when Stevie made his father was just going about it always just Bruce was going to be the night you know things are gonna happen in the alone and the great pal a great price that's how it usually works and then really excited to see them come through the whirlpool later in the quarter Leinart looked for Smith again Bush comes in most of this press box sideline it drops to pass waiting as time throwing for Smith in the end zone it is kind of where my watching us hardness dude because deep as I played you know just do it all the little things right they then they you don't say this 203 the Trojans tacked on a last minute field goal to make the half times four thirty eight to ten USC was only thirty minutes of football away from making history [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Applause] in the second half the Trojans kept rolling Bush goes in motion three receivers left over the middle Steve Smith same play same result touchdown USC national championship USC Leinart swift touchdown pass set an Orange Bowl record really it was just a matter of us making face decent if teammates and coaches don't like they made a fantastic catch the first touchdown in the offensive line gave me all day to throw and we ran the ball well it was just it was just one of those things we were just meanwhile the Trojan defense had shut down the powerful suitor offense limiting Jason White's effectiveness and holding freshman sensation Adrian Peterson in check was I thinking that kick skill find out what they were trying to do and really you know establish a defense we know we knew in the end that he knows him come down previously on the ball and that's he wanted to stop you know let me Jason what could hurt us but Peterson could hurt us much more our top priority especially at the back end is it's keep everybody in front of you don't let him beat his deep make them try to pinch their way down the field and see if they have enough pages to do it and basically it worked out pretty well Bush was kept out of the end zone for only the third time all season but the all-american performer did contribute 149 all-purpose yards only things I remember I would cost care and anything he just stay with the nicest and the new things that I've gotten this to ascribe you know they'll just be another team in the white jury and I heard that stuck in my mind brought the whole game tailback LenDale White had been limited in practice due to a severe ankle injury but he returned with a vengeance first time I got to carry I feel unfailing how physically strong male teen was compared to old guys and they were kind of beautiful an opportunity there for their decide show came today white finished the game with 118 yards rushing and two touchdowns by the fourth quarter the game's outcome was not in doubt and the Trojans started to celebrate [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] the final seconds ticked off the clock and usc's 55 to 19 victory with the finishing touches to a magical season the Trojans 13 and OH record was the best in school history the team that started the season number one in the nation ended up right on top and the Trojans were national champions for the second consecutive year [Music] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] [Applause] boy what a dominating performance over Oklahoma in the national championship game and I must tell you as an alumni it gives me a great sense of pride and satisfaction to know the USC Trojans are back on top the national championship trophy is back where it belongs in Heritage Hall and this time folks there is no doubt [Music] after the season three prominent players had a tough decision to make stay at USC for their senior season or enter the NFL Draft linebacker low 52 Pugh decided to go into the NFL then it was time for punter Tom Malone and quarterback Matt Leinart to make their announcements you know I'm blessed to be in a position right now where either way I'm gonna have a degree from such a great University and to be in the situation I really went back and forth on it you know it's been a dream I think is everybody to go play on Sundays and be able to do that in and to be drafted and and just to be able to put myself and my family out but after thinking about it you know I'm I'm excited to come back for another year at SC just first I just want to thank everybody coming out here and support me through all this and thank you for being patient with my decision it's been a very difficult one first I want to thank you know my dad and all my family and coach and everyone who has helped me through this process you know to to making this decision today I think the most important thing I've learned about this week is that you know - do you know what's best for myself and my family and to gather information and take it in but ultimately you know do what makes me do what's going to make me happy and furthermore I've announced I will be coming back for my fifth this was a definitely the toughest decision of my life I realize the opportunity right now to support my family by going to the NFL early but to me I think college football and this whole atmosphere here I've been with my friends and my teammates that and I've been with for four years is ultimately more satisfying and will make me happier than any amount of money could make someone happy so I just I feel very confident very excited about the opportunity to come back and and play another year here and be in college one more year is the best time of my life and I've had the most fun being at SC my last 4 years and I ever had so so I plan on being back here next year and hopefully to just be a leader again and hopefully win again thank you now the only question is can the Trojans make it a three-peat three titles in a row [Music]
