the 2020 sugar mold is the sweetest pole matchup this side of the college football championship number five Georgia and number seven Baylor a win tonight would place the name of Jake Fromm alongside the likes of Herschel Walker as Bulldogs Sugar Bowl heroes a victory format rule at quarterback Charlie Brewer would be Baylor's for Sugar Bowl win since the Bears only appearance in 1957 and would cap one of the biggest turnarounds in college football history the Bears and the dogs under a crescent moon here is a Crescent City a new day a new year and a chance to make some new sugar bowl memories you are watching the Allstate Sugar ball from the mercedes-benz Superdome in New Orleans Louisiana couple of eleven and two teams Georgia and Baylor the Bulldogs the runners-up in the SCC Baylor lost a heartbreaker for the big 12 title in that championship game against Oklahoma hi everybody welcome to New Orleans Sean McDonald along with Todd Blackledge we'll be joined shortly by Holly Rowe delighted to have you with us and Happy New Year everyone wasn't necessarily happy new year a year ago for Georgia here they were number five a year ago when they took on Texas in the Sugar Bowl just as they are this year but last year they thought they should have been in the playoff they seemed unfocused yeah coach Kirby smart thinks this year they're ready to go despite a lot of key players who aren't here well kirby wants to focus on the guys who are here and the guys who are playing and he wants one question answer how much do you care because he looks at this team they're playing in Baylor he says they're mo as they out Hut out hit and out hustle the teams they play we have to have that same mindset that same attitude he wants to see how his team will respond to though he knows this quarterback Jake Fromm will be focused as he always is perhaps his last game for Georgia he's a junior he has a decision to make about the NFL when this one is over it's been a difficult year around him on offense and as a result his performance has suffered a little bit too it has I mean his last five games his completion percentage has been under 50% very unjam white but make no mistake this guy has had a brilliant career as a three-year starter at Georgia he's 34 and 7 as a starting quarterback his wide receiving court got decimated as the season went on that affected his productivity down the stretch but I know him as a competitor he wants to play well tonight and on the other side the quarterback Charlie Brewer we had the big 12 championship game he did not finish the game was injured in the first quarter with a head injury he is back he's healthy he's a very fierce competitor plays the game a lot like Sam Ehlinger who really caused problems for this Georgia defense Baylor one of the great stories in college football this year two seasons ago 11 losses this season 11 wins under Matt rule the coaches with Holly Rowe seven-year-old little boy I'm watching the Sugar Bowl and the kid it was a big moment for you what does it like now to be on this field coaching your team here it's exciting for me personally but I'm more excited for these players you know of the of the eleven guys or to start on defense ten of them started two years ago we won an 11 they've worked they've burned this opportunity I want them to go play great thank you thank you coach rules Baylor Bears won the toss and deferred so Baylor will kick-off 11 and 2 both losses to Oklahoma and Jake from getting ready for what might be his last game as a Georgia Bulldog saw the numbers during Todd's introduction to Jake Fromm one of the most prolific quarterbacks in Georgia history and the same can be said of Charlie Brewer at Baylor he's in the top five in most of their quarterback related statistical categories Noah Rush and bird kicks off for Baylor the Beatrice Robertson deepest for Georgia fifth meeting all-time between these two the previous four all played at Athens a long time ago all the won by Georgia none of that means much right now and it is a touch back that get this one started here come the Georgia Bulldogs led by prom the Georgia data from Warner Robins Todd mentioned 42 starts all of them in a row that's the longest consecutive start streak among active quarterbacks the top level of college football thirty four and seven twelve and six against top 25 teams as the leader the Georgia Bulldogs with a remade offensive line in front of him and questions about whether or not they're top running back the Andre Swift will play comes out throwing to George Pickens the freshman their leading receiver and a gain of seven here are the chick-fil-a impact players well you mentioned the Andre Swift probably not going to play in the game they're starting the game with Samir white the first play James Cook also George Pickens their impact receiver at James Lynch and Terrell Bernard - outstanding defender Lynch the Defensive Player of the Year in the big 12 that Baylor defense stopped Zamir white James Lockhart part of a terrific three-man front there 335 defense and they have been disruptive all season long a school record 43 sacks they have 30 takeaways among the leaders in the country in that category on third and three from the pass sand on target for a first down Pickens got just enough before he got offended by Jordan Williams on the first drop that third down play those two new starting offensive tackles hold their own very well gonna see a lot of quick throws from Drake from they're not going to let him keep the ball in his hands very long severe white again strong run almost to the forty Scott by Henry Black here's Holly Rowe well DeAndre Swift came out in full pads warmed up with his team and I was able to catch his eye and talk to him and say hey are you gonna play he said yes I want to try to play he's standing there on the sidelines right behind the coaches as if he can sub in any moment but he is going to be smart with that AC shoulder joint separation or injury possibly his last game at Georgia as well he's a junior Tom McShea considers of the top running back prospect indeed NFL Draft this year played just five snaps in there thirty seven to ten loss to LSU three weeks plus to go in the SEC title game Zamir white chopped down by Terrell Bernard help from Jordan Williams now this is what Georgia wanted to try to do was he use this big offensive line even with the new starters and try to overpower this Baylor defense they're big up front but their linebackers Bernard is only at 217 pounds over the for Georgia this lightly passing situation James Cook comes in Georgia has replaced both of its starting offensive tackles two standouts Andrew Thomas and Isaiah Wilson bolt opted not the play to prepare for the NFL Draft Rob's throw way too high in the direction of George Pickens Jamison Houston and coverage for Baylor and after picking up one first down the Bulldogs will punt that was just a misfire by Jake because he had single coverage into the boundary on Pickens he just overthrew him there's Jake camarda sophomore from Norcross Georgia's had a very good year averaging 47 point 4 per punt Raylan Arnold back deep Baylor very good kick block team end-over-end and a fair catch made by Arnold at the 17-yard line you're watching the Allstate Sugar Bowl from New Orleans [Music] aerial coverage provided by Goodyear recognizing those who strive to rise above the rest Goodyear more driven Baelor on offense for the first time led by the junior from Austin Texas Charlie Brewer we mentioned he's climbed the ranks and many offensive categories Baylor top 4 and total offense passing yards and passing touchdowns facing Robert Griffin the third and a lot of those categories the Heisman Trophy winner tough run right out of a gate for John loved it they rotate in three running backs Louis seen a freshman safety made the tackle nice block by Rob Holland the tight end he plays also on the defensive line so they ran to that power side into the boundary this is a Georgia defense coming in only giving up an average of two point seven yards per rush one of the best run defenses in college football numbers second best in the country only Penn State given up fewer yards per rush John Lovett has the first down though he mentioned the completions to the Georgia roster for a variety of reasons injuries preparation for the NFL suspension some of them undisclosed reasons the coaches think it's a bigger deal on offense than defense but playing without Tyler Clark and junior Reed that those are two all-conference players yeah those are two outstanding players and in the case of junior Reed a great communicator on the back end in the defense it started 42 straight games short pass by brewer then is love it by the leading tackler for the Georgia Bulldogs Monte Rice jr. out of Huntsville Alabama who might not be that popular in this city he flipped from LSU at the end of his recruitment to Georgian he's had an outstanding season he's become a real leader for this defense or suffered a concussion in their conference title loss to Oklahoma on he hands off to chimayo hasty and he said it was about a week in a dark room he doesn't remember much about what happened to him in the big 12 title game he was wobbly after a couple of hits in the first half left early in the second quarter returned for his series and then was sent to the locker room for evaluation they decided he could not return only cleared to practice right before Christmas but he said he feels fine he's ready to go he's on target they're petrest inept nerd their running backs aren't good receivers and they fit over the backs a lot he came up about a yard short of the first down Hefner was actually recruited to Baylor originally as a wide receiver so he gives them a lot of versatility had a big long touchdown pass reception in the fourth quarter that big 12 championship game Georgia very good on that play stopping him short of the steps isaac power on to punt Ciara's Jackson is back deep for Georgia coaches think this is going to be a low-scoring field position type game so Matt rule not inclined to go for it on fourth and one in his own territory and a fair catch made by jack at the 18-yard line well the difficulty with the players who aren't here for Georgia Todd is really on the offense particularly the two excellent offensive tackles in Andrew Thomas who won the Jacobs blocking Trophy as the best offensive lineman in the SEC and Isiah Wilson each decided not to come here to get ready for the NFL and then the question of DeAndre swift he's not on that list but he is certainly a factor and for the second possession they've got James Cook out there again Swift Kirby smart told us he's medically cleared it's up to him whether he wants to play here is James Cook the brother of Dalvin cook of the Minnesota Vikings and he got leveled by Chris Miller Chris Miller is one of the safeties here he is right here he is going to make a beeline perfect angle to the football once he reads the play and really a nice job by Blake Lynch number two turning the play back inside so the safety could clean up and make the play goes back to what you were saying thought but what Kirby smart said about Baylor they out hit you they out hustle you and he wants his team to match that from way off intended for Tyler Simmons it's a passing game that was just completely out of synch from under fifty percent passing for Coach smart in each of the last five games and it just looks like a group that is totally on separate pages yeah it really does it and even though they've had extra time in the bowl crap to build that chemistry and work on it you can still see early on there's not a lot of trust that Jake prom has in this wide receiver group he's still the most accurate passer in Georgia history but that numbers been coming down they go to the ground on third down and 11 and James Cook stopped by gravy on Roy the senior from Spring Texas big number 99 another one of the better defensive linemen to the country he's very athletic was an outstanding basketball player in high school too that's what he credits his footwork to he's not a guy that's just content to plug the runner he also can pressure the quarterback these are two outstanding defensive football teams and if you get third down and seven or more against either one of them you're gonna have some problems camarda low kick this one's returnable gray Lonard open the bounds of the field position battle starting to tilt in Baylor's favor as the Bears will begin at their own 45 yard line [Music] the Allstate Sugar Bowl brought to you by Allstate reminding you that football season is mayhem the nachos party pack from Taco Bell the OL new Ford Explorer filled ford crown at 80 sugar bowl 86th Edition full game with an exciting proud history colorful as you might expect to the city of New Orleans charlie brewer happy he can play in its after suffering the head injury the big 12 championship Moss back on December 7 hit hard by Kenneth berry it's his head that hit the turf hard we mentioned he was wobbly getting up and came back into the game and then Mike the feeder referee said you need to go out they send to the locker room for further evaluation he did not return we're told that he's had three concussions we asked him yesterday with all the attention a head injuries in football are you concerned he said no not at all John London nice cut cross midfield four six yard game dragged out by tape Crowder the senior playing in his final game had a terrific career for Georgia one of the 12th semi-finalists with buckets award his best linebacker in the country this guy right here Denzel Mims is a guy they've got to get going early in the football game he was shutout in the big 12 championship game and he is their marquee guy on target Brewer was a little bit behind RJ speed they reached back to make the catch for a first down to the torch of 41 a really nice job by Steve in the slot little quick slant did a nice job of catching that with his hands and getting the first down Brewer is an accurate thrower 64% for his career only rg3 better and Baylor history and he's on target there but it's broken up try to get it to their leading receiver Denzel Mims and DJ Daniel knocked it away there is a flag down as you see right by the pylon pass interference automatic first down I think what they're going to get DJ for is grabbing the arm of Denzel Mims at the end of this right there he's got ahold of the arm which alters his course and his ability to go for the football and that's the call and Mims is a guy that they have to get involved and that was a good plan to throw the ball down the field to him early in this football game till it's rule told us earlier this week with ministers come playing the year with a fractured bone in his foot which is remarkable since he's been so productive with the exception of that big 12 title game Brewers slid down to avoid the head he stayed inbounds with lost yardage back to the 30-yard line chased buying to Coby Dean and that kind of play is what really hurt them against Oklahoma in the big 12 championship game their ineffectiveness on first down plays really put this offense behind the number and they had 21 first out plays against Oklahoma 14 of them or 4 zero or negative yard agent they can't afford to do that against a team as good as Georgia on deep over the middle off the hands of heaven they're an intercepted by Richard look out he's dragged down at the 26 [Applause] first turnover up the gate Harry put pressure on Charlie Brewer still look like the throw was catchable least looking at a live taught it was a little bit closer to the middle than Hefner wanted it to be but it was an outstanding play by the count on the deflection [Music] here at the Sugar Bowl first turnover the game ever is going to run a little route here now he's open but this pressure by Malik herring is going to cause Charlie Brewer to throw this ball a little bit further towards the middle of the field than he wants if he throws it right now he has a completion and what happened was Abner took his eyes off the football put his eyes on Tay Crowder didn't want to get hit there it could have been caught but it could have been a better throw as well no trying to catch that ball with two hands just the seventh interception of a year for Georgia yeah first down severe white up the middle tackled by Jordan Williams tempo for Georgia they have not been a tempo team this year Koli told us they might use more tempo high snap and Fromm forced don't go down on it back at the 12 yard line so a huge mistake the center tray Hill is not one of the new offensive linemen that shouldn't be an issue but that's when you have a guy like gravy on Roy playing right over your nose who so active and powerful it gets your attention it takes your focus off first things first which is snap the football none of the concerns without Swift in the backfield is also Pastner Texan these younger backs not as adept as the veteran diandra swim not only beyond race width they don't have Brian Arian who's the other veteran bet they run a drop on third and long James Cook tripped up at the 22 for Avion Roy again well if Swift doesn't play by our count that'll be 12 Georgia Bulldogs who started at least two games this season who aren't going to play in this game tonight that's a lot coach smart the players also were way more focused than a year ago but Kirby still had to ask answer a lot of questions this week about the depletions to the roster there's Jake camarda to punt again getting closer and closer to him this one is much higher after a couple of low punks and a fair catch made by Grayland Arnold at the 31 good kick by camarda 47 yards media want to stay up to date hey Siri show me college football scores where to give me your attention 12 nights from tonight right here in this building the National Championship presented by AT&T eight o'clock Eastern Time on ESPN LSU and the defending national champions Clemson in this town is already alive in anticipation of the Tigers playing the Tigers here Preston up there ahead for a yard I'll be a busy time in this building Sugar Bowl tonight the Saints hosting a playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings here on Sunday and a week from Monday the national title game LSU playing in the championship game for the first time since 2011 when they get shutout by Alabama don't think they're gonna get shut out this year even with us great is that Clemson defenses charlie brewer on second and nine another ball that looked like it might have been caught instead got the flick it away intended for Denzel Mims George is going to play a lot of tight coverage I like to put their hands on people there's the hit by the safety Lewis seen that knocks the ball out the balls knocked out well by Erik Stokes the corner the hit by zine was after the ball was out it was a clean hit but it did shake up Denzel Mims a little bit and that's two targets now he is not caught a ball yet but that one was good coverage by Eric Stokes playing in his last game been through so much 18 seniors playing their final game they click the three coaches are trials gym girl who's Baylor football back votes the athletic directors said that he came in for one year to help stabilize the program that mat rule who was an inspired to higher when he came from temple 1 in 11 in his first year seven and six last year 11 and two this season first power five team to go from 11 losses to 11 wins within two years nice throw by brewer that's Taekwon thornton with a first down out to the 43 yard line they're still checking on MEMS on the Baylor side really good read by Charlie Brewer that was a pull out let's by Georgia single coverage and he went to the off coverage DJ Daniel was playing off he got the completion quick pop - bar J Sneed and then he got popped and driven back mark web or the defensive backs leading the way we asked Kirby Smart yesterday is this the best defense you had your Georgie said well statistically it is we don't have to Dom in a household name individual player - but as a groom this squad has played very well and they place so many people I mean they typically will play 20 to 22 guys in the game they have different roles for so many different players mass substitutions particularly on third down second and ten four-man rush and the pass incomplete intended to type 140 giorgia giving up just 12 and a half points per game we're Dan landing the young defensive coordinator just 33 years old all the Clemson is better than scoring defense this year interesting both of the defensive coordinators in our game Dan land filss no of Baelor bolt Royals Award finalist worse the award was won by Joe Brady the offensive coordinator at LSU or co-offensive coordinator for the top assistant coach in the country there were five finalists Denzel Mims back on the field for Baylor Brewer avoided the rush now runs and runs out of Bounce flag down back behind the line of scrimmage near the center of the field the monta Wyatt put pressure on he's one of those will get more playing time up front tonight in the absence of Tyler Clark Jerry McGann is the referee it's a Big Ten officiating crew and the COBE Dean was coming on a blitz from his linebacker position I think the center samtech Lindbergh is the guy that got caught with the hole I showed you Dan landing an obviously Kirby smart whose background is on defense very actively involved in the calling of the defense's it was a terrific defense off place number 52 fourth down was on tech Lindbergh second team All Conference Center Georgia when they get you to third down particularly third and seven or more they they just have so many creative ways to pressure the quarterback they substitute a lot of different guys it's very hard to get a read on on some of their exotic pressures Tyler Simmons back for this punt from isaac power redshirt freshman putter from Castle Rock Colorado [Applause] and it's a touchback this season for every field goal an extra point made by participating universities all state will make contribution to the university's general scholarship fund thank you again to all state [Music] as you as we've watched Georgia here early in this ballgame three minutes left in the first quarter offensively what can they do they they have to still try to run the football and take some shots down the field off of play action the guy they want to try to go to is George Pickett he's the only proven receiver they have on the field but they have to get something going running the football behind a bigger offensive line they hand it off to Tyler Simmons the motion man there's a flag down he got four perhaps more for a face mask personal foul face pass defense first down what guys you see DeAndre swift has entered the game for Georgia there's a reason James Cook the running back you've seen a lot of action here in this first quarter is in the injury tent I saw them take off his shoulder pads he's being attended to right now so DeAndre slipped by Meade has entered this ball game for the Georgia Bulldogs you wonder what they'll do with him Holly will they let him run inside will they use it in the past game we'll find out flips it back to from a flea-flicker they have a couple of men running dink and it's George Pickens a big play Jamison Houston tackled him inside the 50 yard line beautiful job by DeAndre swift not only making the pitch but watch DeAndre swift also after he pitches the ball picked up the blitzing linebacker Bernard just enough to give Jake from extra time to get that ball downfield there's Swift again then you wonder Todd if the effectiveness of that play was helped by the fact that it was swift pass here the Baylor defenders aware that he's in the game thinking they're going to give the ball to him em on a running play with him in there he carried to the 12 they marked the ball back at the 15-yard line after the long pass play 47 yards swift back on the sideline it's Samir white the powerful runner 215 pounds now on the left hip of Jake fron they pressure frog it's off to Pickens and he's down at the 6 yard line Braylon Arnold might have saved the touchdown Georgia trying to pick up the tempo here on offense very quickly with that long pass on they finally flipped the field third down too short to Samir white stopped short of the line to make James Lockhart third member of that terrific front 3 along with gravy on Roy and James Lynch a beautiful job is a little twist on the inside Lockhart lines up as the end but watch him loop inside and this little twist game gets him right into the backfield for the stop there a very active front and their linebackers even though not very big they're very quick and very active marigo Blankenship George's all-time leading scorer won the Lou Groza ward is the best place kicker in the country this year ninety bail is a very good kick blocking team if blocked five this year to that one through the middle with no problem the 24 yard field goal and Georgia on the board first unlike last year when they were sloppy early in trail Texas 17 to nothing wildcard weekend starts with our game on ESPN and ABC Saturday 4:30 Eastern Time Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills take on to Shaun Watson the Houston Texas men RG Stadium our coverage starts with post season NFL countdown at 3:00 Eastern both are live on the ESPN app pregame and the game you can watch anywhere Bill's looking for their first playoff win since 1995 [Music] Josh Allen still a little bit scattershot offensively but seems to be improving and obviously DeSean wanting to take over a game maze amazingly a lot of people question whether he would be able to make the transition from college football great career plebs into the NFL he has been brilliant Michael hasty back for the kickoff from Rodrigo Blankenship Josh fleex also back there talked about possible distractions with so many Georgia players not here Baylor's had to deal with some of it too their team is really here intact fired up and ready to go but that rule has been mentioned regulate that still snow the defensive coordinator getting after the defense rules neighbors come up several NFL coaching vacancies he has a little bit of NFL experience a year with the New York Giants he's from New York City he has said all week that he expects that he'll be back at Baylor but he told his team addressed it head-on I would certainly be foolish not to talk to NFL teams but the word he kept using his situation not every situation of the NFL is gray he controls a lot of his situation at Baylor absolutely you know and he is very right and saying if the situation isn't right it's tough to win whether you're talking about college football or pro football it doesn't mean you have to be a control freak but you have to have the right pieces and place the right people around you that are your guys that you trust to make things work effectively and understand why he'd be a candidate with the job that he's done charlie Brewer deep ball single coverage but not on the same page at all with Chris Platt who was running with Marc Webb in coverage Marc Webb was in perfect position coverage wise the ball was underthrown didn't even have a chance for Chris plaid but that would had to been a perfect throw because Marc Webb who's a converted wide receiver kind of plays the nickel where star position is in great shape Brewer in trouble finally gets rid of it just throws it away they've given up 35 sacks Baylor when I talked to a couple of the coaches today they said one of the problems is Brewer frequently hangs on to the ball too long yeah yeah and that can happen sometimes he moves he's a guy who likes to do things with his legs and sometimes they don't know where he is if he's moving in the pocket sometimes those offensive linemen aren't sure where their quarterback is so he has sacks aren't always just a lineman getting beat by a defensive player it would be careful here though third and ten against this Georgia defense smart with the ball man Russian they get pressure on off the offense is left in Denzel bim's made the catch DJ Daniel made the tackle disease Oh Jabari putting the pressure on very much like when Kirby Smart was with Nick Saban at Alabama and the way they play defense they can test every play I mean they don't want you to gain one ounce or one inch more than you catch the football that's a couple times now where Baylor's completed a pass on third down but it's been short of the first down marker Isaac power good kick Tyler Simmons fair catch that gets us to the end of the first quarter Georgia leading three to nothing the Bulldogs will have the ball in their own 15-yard line back to the Allstate Sugar Bowl happy new year prep to Orleans [Music] aerial coverage of the Allstate Sugar Bowl provided by Goodyear introducing the newest honorary member of the College Football Hall of Fame the Goodyear blimp Goodyear more driven tonight's game is also being brought to you in 4k by Samsung Q LED TV we could check this out on DirecTV Xfinity [Applause] Sean McDonough Todd Blackledge Holly Rowe back in New Orleans heading to the second quarter Georgia leading 3 to nothing through 52 yard punt by isaac power dogs begin from the 15 and first down ends at the 14 as Kenny McIntosh the true freshman is dropped by Cheney Oh benaiah and that's that's a mistake on the offensive line because the tackle blocked down the tight end there were two tight ends to the backside one of them they both walked out and they let the defensive end just chase the play down so obviously a miscommunication again there they're playing with two new starters at tackle also in the offensive line coach in matte blue Sam Pittman who after the line coach left to become the head coach at Arkansas nice play there's Amir white knocked down by Chris Miller there's Matt Luke fired at Ole Miss after three years as the head coach at his alma mater I think he got a raw deal myself and it was a lot of excitement against Lane Kiffin about Lane Kiffin Jake from back shoulder throw on tiger there with George Pickens with Matt Luke's a great hire Kirby smart snapped him up within 48 hours after Sam fitment departed he's an excellent recruiter he's an outstanding offensive line coach and he's a really good person so he's a really good at this where Kirby stack some challenges tonight with this remade offensive line without the veteran starting tackles movement along the line there Warren Erickson made his first career start tonight at right guard number 50 all sidon defense number 95 with contact by dua penalty remains first down there's Warren Erickson the good thing for Erickson is he's in there with Trey Hill the starting center and Salomon Kinley the starting guard who are you know he can kind of be protected a little bit more than Sawyer and Kate mays the two starting tackles but right now you see they want to run the football and they want to throw it to George Pickett [Applause] [Music] severe wide nice run is a fan favorite in Athens across midfield with the first down to the baler 44 of the Jordan Williams missed the tackle two tight end formation kind of trying to pound and ground here and a missed tackle right there at the point of attack Jake from over the middle and almost intercepted by Jordan Williams one play after whiffing on the tackle near the line of scrimmage he couldn't come up with the interception and he's upset with himself intended for the tight end Charlie Werner well Charlie Werner prevented the interception he knocks the ball out he turned from receiver to defender immediately retorted knocked the ball out number two number six for Georgia [Applause] Baelor defensive line these three they stand up so much different Dickens really become their lead at wide receiver injuries to Lawrence cager to Dominic Blaylock it wasn't a group that was all that productive when they had everybody healthy we saw up against Tennessee earlier those guys were all healthy was a much different looking past me saw Lawrence cager big target out with an ankle injury to the end of his career came over a grad transfer from penny McIntosh for the first down nice job by James Cooley Kohli calling information that time to the field where they were able to outflank the Baylor defense they snapped it quick they had two tight ends and a receiver to that side they got the ball out of the perimeter we talked to Phil snow he thought some quick Suites would be something Georgia to do because Oklahoma had success with those kind of plays against him in the big 12 championship pressure from proms left he throws her pick as he runs under it catches it and a touchdown for Georgia I mean you know they're gonna throw it to him he's the only guy that they feel confident making contestant catches he's won against Jamison Houston and a perfect drop in the bucket by Jake frog right over the outside shoulder you can't throw it in a better spot and even though Baylor knows the ball is going to Pickens in the air he's already got seven catches for 118 yards and now a touchdown a touchdown catch of the year to leave the Georgia Bulldogs with their SEC title game against LSU had to sit out the first half after he was ejected for fighting in their last regular season game against Georgia Tech Rodrigo Blankenship the extra point and Georgia Gnawa tendon upping with 12 and a half to go till halftime [Music] Taco Bell is bringing the best of the regular-season to the Allstate Sugar Bowl by creating the Limbaugh student section today they're picking up tap students from each school so these passionate fans cheer on their teams [Applause] it's the Georgia fans making noise now Jake prom has completed seven passes they've all been caught by George Pickens the seven catches matches his season and career-high he's a freshman at seven and their loss to South Carolina in the 118 yards receiving already career-high he had the 46 yard catch on the flea-flicker that set up their field goal that started the scoring tonight [Applause] so 10 nothing Georgia scored more than 27 points and only one of their last eight games that slow by today's college football standards with the high-flying offenses college football playoff national championship weekend in New Orleans is going to be the place to be whether your team is in the game or not learn about all the events and festivities for CF B's championship campus ww college football playoff comm don't miss out on the biggest weekend in college football we're excited about it we'll be back here in Hawley and our friend and colleague Ian Fitzsimmons to call the game on ESPN radio when LSU takes on Clemson here a week from Monday night flag down and they stop it false start offense number 61 five-yard penalty first down Khalil Keith the left guard it's too bad that Baylor couldn't snap the ball quickly because Georgia was late running their 11th player on the field by the time he got there there was the false start by Khalil key that they would have snapped it early they'd have gone 11 on 10 as you said they play a lot of men on defense might not be quite as many tonight because some of their key players are [Applause] keep track of Justin after lights to the 34 he stopped by Monte Rice take Crowder we asked Dan Lanny honey keep track of all these substitution packages who's going in and out he said we just have to practice it over and over again until it becomes a habit well if you watch him like on this second down play they've already got their third down groups like close to Dan Landing right now so they can sub quick bring some pressure and Brewer here they come that's what's at five guys they're subbing on third down and obviously distance dictates what group they want in but they do they practice it every day they rapidly script it that way of practice so they're used to being ready to sup with them the field twice this season she's impressive first year coach it drives you crazy to have a bein too but give it as much as they substitute Brewer on third down it's his target off the head it appeared our J Sneed there's a flag down [Music] you know what I think they're gonna get Blake be it Betty a for a he he threw a punch at the end of this play he was tied up with a pass rusher and took a shot at the guy enter the play personal foul offense number 56 would be 15-yard penalty Hampton 15-yard penalty fourth down now [Applause] I mean it could have been worse maybe watch the end of this play here it is right here at the very end he just kind of takes his shot right to his head and he's working on Nolan Smith a freshman linebacker that's that's clearly a penalty and not a smart one Georgia stands to get outstanding field position again here with a 10 nothing lead after that penalty in punt isaac power now standing on his goal line to punt to Tyler Simmons boy he hangs them up high a crowd around Simmons who made the fair catch at the 41 yard line here's Holly Rowe well guys look the guys who chose to sit out this game Jake from was not one of those for Georgia he does have an NFL future in mind and he told us he will sit down with his family after this game and and make a decision about what moving forward he did submit paperwork receive a grade for the NFL but you know Kirby said he had so much class as such can get such a competitor he never points a finger he wants to be out heard this guy's and I just said what an offensive how does he is engaged he's yelling at his guys he wants us to be good this guy loves Georgia and wants to be out here competing for them regardless of his NFL future right now he's off to a good start there's his parents assuming possibly girlfriend wearing the Jersey sameer white top frontman lunged forward and picked up a couple of extra yards he's had an interesting career Jake prom as a freshman Jacob Eason started right got hurt in the very first game Tromp took over he started 42 in a row and Jacob Eason a lot of transferring to Washington he's already declared for the NFL Draft Chris Justin Fields came as one of the top recruits in the country basically backed-up firaon last year he left realizing jake was going to be the quarterback this year he had a great year at Ohio State how about the effort there by Samir white once again stays on his feet and gets within two yards of the first down Samir white is very powerful he is the north-south guy now they thought coming into the game James Cook would be the guy they could be a little bit more versatile with as Holly reported earlier he was at the injury tent has not been back in the game we have seen Kenny McIntosh and we may see more of DeAndre Swift three-man rush you don't get anywhere near Fromm so it's Pickens with his age catch he scampers out of bounds in another Georgia first down to the 40-yard line again another nice job by formation they got pick into the little area he sat down and the quarterback found him and again I think that Baylor and Phil snow is gonna have to do something different to account for George Pickens maybe roll a safety over the top that's it cover him tighter and roll somebody over the top and make somebody else richer poor chip be tuned in the throw game we're at the Baylor 40-yard line first and ten Georgia leading 10 to nothing they faked a Macintosh and the throat of Tyler Simmons and he couldn't break free of the tackle after a gain of five Braylon Arnold excellent defensive back second team all-big 12 this season we mentioned the last five games of the regular season or actually four regular season the SEC championship game Jake Fromm was under 50% completion in all five of those games tonight 9 of 12 he looks sharp and he seems to be getting on a little better page with his receivers especially George Pickett if look at the Simmons having the other direction nice play call and well-executed and Simmons finally take it out of bounds just shy of the 20 yard line really nice job by the tight edge Charlie Warner watch Werner get out here and lead a lot of times you bring that tight end in motion and he cuts off the backside in this time he passes up the backside end it's out on the safety gets the block of grayling Arnold and that's Rimet ER run on the toss to the wide receiver Simmons has been a good play for them a couple times here already in the first half [Applause] another play-action pass from Baelor fans want a holding call from throws it away [Applause] they've been managing all year bei were to get pressure largely with that front three they're really not even with the couple the key offensive lineman not here tonight for Georgia yeah so far the past protection has held up well and you know even when we talked to Kirby smart he said you know they've been great past protecting he felt like they underachieved this year in terms of their ability to run blog because most people thought they would be the most dominant offensive line not just in the SEC but in college football and they weren't able to establish the run Pervis if that was his biggest disappointment pickins again having a monster first half but it's pretty easy to explain when you watch Georgia play when they don't have playmakers and wide receivers so the other teams are saying okay we're gonna single cover these guys going to load up the box we're not going to let beyond race whit beat us yeah they haven't been able to take advantage of those loaded boxes in the passing game here's Pickens with tight coverage no help surrounded gets it off for Charlie Warner he was covered by Henry black a Louisiana native back in his home state fifth year senior out of Shreveport who's been through the bad times and the good for the Baylor Bears I'm not really sure why Jake didn't take his shot at George Pickens on this play because I think he had him for a touchdown settled for the field goal but I think he had a shot on the post he's skinny post if he goes head gives him a gives him a chance at the ball there's Blankenship who's connected from 24 this is from 31 in the end of his career he has a lot of relatives in attendance tonight whistles before the snap and Kirby wanted to call timeout if he's contemplating whether he wants to go for this or not timeout Georgia their first of the hand will be a full charge you're watching the Allstate Sugar Bowl [Music] the Allstate Sugar Bowl don't you bite all stay reminding you that football season is mayhem Gatorade for the athletes who give everything nothing beats Gatorade and the first ever musta cx30 female alive number of events were these two teams during the week Monday visit to the local Children's Hospital Baylor Bears visited Children's Hospital in the Worland Bulldogs visit the ochsner Medical Center they pictures signing autographs playing games with the patients that's really the most important yep activity of Bowl week for these teams and the blessed with excellent weather here in New Orleans when bowling went to a New Orleans pelicans game right next door these teams had a great time they're going to stick with the field goal unit Baylor thinks it has a chance to block a field goal tonight don't get close to that one Blankenship right down the middle again mention Tia's grandparents from Louisiana's cousins here as well and has the number of relatives in attendance here tonight well they're leading 13 to nothing but I really think that Jake probably had this to do over again he would have taken the shot with Pickens here he is watch the corner jump outside on his technique as soon as that happens Jake problems got a good enough arm to stick this ball in right now to pick it the safety is not going to affect it he turns to the other side and throws to him well covered tight head charlie Warner I think if you got a shot one-on-one with that big receiver Pickens give him a chance to make the play maybe just felt like he needs to get somebody else involved and it concise behind catches the rest of the team has one pin a much easier start to the night for other than a year ago got locked up with beef bo the Texas Longhorns mascot and decided mismatched at least from a week in size standpoint horns and horns horns would seem to help vivo and I without the needed the horns necessarily but Blankenship touchbacks anybody in Georgia history that's because he kicked off all the time over these last few years alone not as much this season with the offensive struggles where's a look back to last year before the game started I think that set the tone for the evening to the y-axis came out firing Georgia mistake thrown early it was 17 and nothing Longhorns Georgia rally back [Music] 2821 champ here right there like I said I would have held my own they didn't hurry me away from evil as Josh fleex yanked down after a short game by Aziz Oh Joe Larry see how difficult this Georgia team is to run the football right now we they are allowing coming into this game just set these six yards per game rushing in since 1950 that's the second fewest it would be the second fewest ever the only one better was 1981 seventy two point five Charlie Brewer pitched it to Jim Michael hasty thought bounds about three yards short of the first down and it's a bailer offense Todd that's had a tough time now for a while yeah they had a twenty five point lead in the first half of the regular season game against Oklahoma did nothing in the second half one of it's wandering their biggest lead program history really did not do much on offense in the title game safer a couple of big plays late against Oklahoma in just 70 yards of offense so far tonight that looked like a hold in the middle of the offensive line Brewer got it off to michael hasty now the pounds 38 yard line and there is a flag down somebody pressuring up the middle just got spun around I think they're gonna get Xavier Newman Johnson the right guard offense number 55 from the previous line of scrimmage replay third down watch right in here there's a blitz coming on the inside and he's just gonna instinctively grab and twist them all the way around right to the ground a very easy call and it wipes out a third down conversion they had third and short they get the conversion now they're third and extra long again right where Georgia wants you to be against them defensively [Music] chested Abner Preston Ebner looks like he might have gotten after a missed tackle about five yards short of the line to make it was Tyreke Stevenson who didn't get him on the ground and DJ Daniel finally knocked him out of bounds but it's a big first down for Baylor that's a play that would drive Dan landing and Kirby smart crazy you let him catch it underneath then you make a tackle there's the miss face first of miss by Richard lecount and then Stevenson right behind it and a brewer going deep and it is incomplete looking for Taekwon Fortin and Matt rules upset and should be because he got away with a grab of New Jersey he was beat on the play and the defender grabbed the jersey to slow him down that was DJ Daniel watch as he gets beat on the play he's going to reach out and grab the Jersey actually the undershirt under the Jersey and that impedes the receiver from going to the football that's that's got to be called [Music] that's blatant we've had two of those in as many games that we've done beneficial is completely whipped on which should've been a pass interference call against LSU in the SEC title game and hey that's right out there for everybody to see especially when you see this shirt like all the way out from the bottom and it's obvious that it's a penalty well you mentioned during the big 12 title game Denis rule is Minister and he's on the sidelines regular member there's right behind Matt says when I start to get a little saltier my dad gets closer closer there there he is hitch in his way closer you say doesn't always say something this let's be seeing me I know how to clean up my language now Brewer gets hit got it off knees are down on the catch or actually lost about a half yard to the tie and Christoph Henley's from Innsbruck Austria went to high school in Arlington Texas that is a huge miss yeah especially in a game like this where there isn't likely to be a lot of offense again third down and long you're just not going to have any success against this Georgia defense first of all the creative pressures you're it's going to cause confusion you're not going to block them and then they do so many different things coverage wise when they get you in those situations gule still giving the side Judge John Hayes an ear fold Isak power Tyler Simmons [Applause] [Music] 46-yard punt and at 8 yard return Georgia up 13 to nothing in the second quarter there's a look at tonight's AT&T best performance well the passing game for Georgia has been George Pickens the flea-flicker was the biggest play but for the night now Pickens 9 catches 136 yards and this was the touchdown a beautiful throw by Jake prime so far Baylor has not found a way to slow him down [Applause] Samir white ran into Chris Miller and gets stopped after a gain of about four it's a big night for Pickens we mentioned 9 catches a career high as this 136 yards he's had a touchdown the only other catch by Tyler Simmons for a 6 yard gain this is the 11th trip to the Sugar Bowl for Georgian Pickens is the first bulldog receiver to have a hundred plus yards receiving in a Sugar Bowl game from on target George Pickens tried to leap over Granlund Arnold as he approached and it's another big gainer it must be a wonderful sight Todd for Jake Fromm to look out there and see open receivers beautiful route he really fooled Chris Miller that Miller was trying to give extra coverage but that little in fake froze Chris Miller when he broke out there was no help beautiful route that time patience by picking so much of this season it's been hard for Georgia to get receivers open they feel like they have a very good recruiting class of receivers coming in for next year Samir white close to another first down well they lost three to the NFL early and then they started getting guys hurt this year and right now Pickens is the only like James Lynch was offside the andriy swift was back on the field for one of his few snaps of the night on that play George Pickens couldn't catch it but it looks like it's Baylor offside defense five-yard penalty remains first down but Shawn even on that play George Pickens was open in the middle of the field it wasn't a good throw and they know they got the penalty but I think Baylor needs to they need to get some hands on him and redirect him reroute him a little bit this is the the best thing that Phil snow can see is George Pickens on the sidelines getting some water Phil snow Todd mentioned like Dan landing on the other side one of the five finalists will Boyle's award 63 year old better than 42 years in coaching Matt Landers short of the first down and Phil snow one of the real characters in ing - just a fun guy to talk to very interesting passionates he was fired up for this game because he likes old-school hard-nosed football and he says that's what they play in the SEC maybe a little bit more than what we see in the big 12 he likes the challenge but right now Georgia kind of having the better of it and the better of his needle tells his players big 12 assault yeah just try to fire muffin a little bit as less soft this year but ever in fact was soft much better defense played in the big 12 this year dimitra's robertson for another first down he's wide runs I mean they they we're not having success running inside the wide runs have been much more effective it's really because the tight ends are blocking so well on the perimeter that time Eli Wolff an outstanding block on the edge another person who's been criticized this year's Georgia has not been terrific on offense James Coley the offensive coordinator he's done a very nice job with the play calling guys though variety the first one you have successes they complete again to Pickens Todd doing some things it opens up other things where you get on every play you can't set up other options in your playbook there's James on the left as Kirby said they had to overachieve with their wide receiver in skilled positions this year they had to to do things creatively that they haven't had to do in years past because of the injury situation [Applause] second down at eight under two minutes to go in the half Georgia leading 13 to nothing Fromme to the end zone touchdown Matt Landers see this is that same technique by the corner that I talked about with picot watch the corner jump outside he runs the post in the ball is right on him before the safety can get over there to help it's the exact same route that he didn't take the shot to Pickens and they settled for the field goal this time he gives Landers a shot and they come up with the touchdown we think yeah I'd wonder if this is going to be looked at in the replay booth did he complete the catch Tom Fiedler is the replay official [Music] [Applause] [Music] deandre Swift in there going for two here in the first half Rahm looked at Swift and stead Rose didn't complete pass batted away by Grayland Arnold the general direction of the tight end Eli Wolfe the transfer from Tennessee George in control in the first half of the Allstate Sugar Bowl stay tuned for the Mazda halftime report Matt Barry Jesse Palmer Joey Galloway they might need to get to the set and get going here there's lingering on the sidelines Ian Fitzsimmons on the radio down there as well getting ready for the national championship game which will be on ESPN Radio in addition to ESPN TV and the app there's Matt berry apparently they're going to do it for the field do they have a set but we saving on the budget early in the new year [Applause] it's good to start into the you new year right financially family thing [Applause] spend a little more money later here there's another touch back off what a Rodrigo Blankenship Jake prompts having a beautiful game but on this two-point conversion deandre Swift's in the game for a reason he's got him right now so that's his first read now right now he doesn't like that but George Pickens is going to open up right here that's his second look and he doesn't go with either one of them now again it's not that big a deal it's a two-point play and he's happening a great game now 14 and 19 but that's it that's 2 points and he could have had a little surprise they went for 2 of the first half of the game Charlie Brewer at quarterback Kent Baylor get anything going through his nine out of 17 they have 82 yards of total offense he's nuts it off Porcha Michael hasty lowers his head picks up three or four chopped down by Erik Stokes all three timeouts left for Baylor with 138 to go in the half again it's so critical what you do on first and second down you have to win those downs against Georgia and they've not been able to do that in this first half back shoulder throw incomplete intended for Taekwon Fortman out of Miami friendly with Teddy Bridgewater who started the Sugar Bowl here with Louisville a few years ago Teddy a few years older but they played the same youth football program knew each other well and stayed in touch actually got to see each other two Saints practice facility right that was a real treat court Baylor this week practicing over the Saints facility Saints the great this week chance to interact with some of the players over there [Applause] ruler force tap up a couple times completes a two-point and it's a first down here's a look at the reunion that the Saints practices silly the other day Teddy Bridgewater made the point to come out and find Tai Kwan Thornton at Tai Kwan told us that that even though Teddy played at an older age group he would work with the quarterbacks on his team and stick around boy heavy rush Brewer spins away from it throws back across the field to hasty who's to the 41 boy that was a hard earned five yards for Baylor they're down to a minute five to go in the half well you see the elusiveness of Charlie Brewer because it was a quick rush right away that he eludes Denzel nemesis a dinger quickly trotted back to the line of scrimmage when they're in the hurry up mode here and now it's Adam Anderson with a sack of Brewer who might be Georgia looking to call a timeout now and it is the Bulldogs used one with 44 seconds to go fortune second half a 30 second charge timeout Monday January 13th 8:00 Eastern ESPN and ESPN app the college football playoff national championship game presented by AT&T right here mercedes-benz Superdome in New Orleans I think we're going to see the number one pick in this year's Jeff joke borrow against the number one pick in the 2021 Draft Trevor Loras yeah well Joe burrow has been great from start to finish Trevor Lawrence a little slower getting out of the gate than people expected but he has been outstanding down the stretch when that game was on the line in Phoenix the other night it was was impressive what he did she saw it Justin hurt her to know Rose Bowl today to running the football to do it he can do it he didn't very effectively against Ohio State sir third down and nine for Baylor Georgia with one timeout left they can get a Scott here thriller under duress got it off they get the stop with Taekwon thorny Kirby smart will use that last timeout he feels like they have Baylor on the ropes wants to try to bury them here in the first half well his defenses held them the 97 yards of offense and so they have they have pretty much had their way and when they get him again in these third and long situations it just plays right into their hands they're rushing the passer they're covering downfield and and right now this has been a beautiful half for Georgia not just their defense which has been this way all year but for Jake from the offense George Pickens pretty exciting stuff for George here in the first half a lot to be happy for for Kirby smart I think one of the things that he's gonna be happiest about he won't have to answer questions after this game about were they ready to go where they focused from the start we mentioned a lot of players who started games this year aren't here backups playing well and Jake from in that passing game finally yeah finding a little bit of a rhythm dog fans been waiting for that most of the season and and Kirby was very emphatic with us saying when we met with him it says look everyone wants to talk about the guys who are not here the guys who aren't playing the guys who have been here in our Pratt that plan they have practice really hard we want to focus on those guys and I want to see how our team is gonna play and I think he's happy with the answer that he has power up anybody back that's one of the reasons why they got some pressure it's an excellent punch down by the 3-yard line by Ross Madison the snapper is an excellent players back up middle linebacker we saw him get into linebacker in the big 12 championship game 57-yard punt and I would think now Todd with this field position no timeouts left 30 seconds to go just take it to the locker room yeah absolutely they've dominated the first half they've controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball 165 yards receiving for Pickens Baylor as a team 97 yards of offense Levin catches for Pickens the Sugar Bowl record is 14 by Josh Reed of LSU the artist is 239 hey Josh read the same game against Illinois in 2002 Dickens has 165 they did it was a mere white boy he's a tough runner yeah now will Baylor call timeouts apparently not wonder if it was a shorter gain or a no game play mat rule but it tried it force a putt but I think at this point he just wants to get in and regroup raishin a round of applause from the Georgia fans the fresh maggiorin the star of the night and here's Kirby with Holly who called you wanted your team to out hit and out hustle how do you assess that they started this Sugar Bowl game for you well it's not over and we all know that it's a four quarter game this team's been in a lot of tough battles and right now we're playing hard we're a little winded I think they are too you've had some great success with Pickens in the passing game what is really allowing that to kind of come alive for you right now free access right now if they don't they don't get their hands on him it's hard to contain him and Jake's make some good throws to him James Cook what's his status to return to this game right now I'm not sure he's got a rib injury and don't know if he'll be back all right Thank You coach working all right Thank You Holly our score at the half georgia 19 baylor nothing [Music] we'll send you to the Mazda halftime report right after these messages [Music] welcome to the must a halftime report we have reached halftime of the Mazda halftime report of the Allstate Sugar Bowl and right now it is all Georgia against Baylor on this New Year's Day hi there happy new years to you and yours Jesse Palmer Joey Galloway Matt berry came into this game knowing that Georgia was going to be without 11 starters seven of them primarily defensive players but at least early on that hasn't affected them defensively and offensively it's been about one guy and that's the receiver just minutes Georgia team that offense has struggled during this season been up and down miss all he's got to assume that they was struggling this game gets a talented Baylor defense somebody got to cover George Pickens right now Jake ROM has 14 completions 11 of them to George pick and George Pickens missed the first half of the SEC championship game but he's come back in this game and he's been the go-to guy better ball here and this is a touchdown early for the Georgia offense but it's been the short path Reed makes a guy miss gets a key first down keeps the offense on the field and they begin the roll when you're seeing the emergence of a future star and this true freshman George Pickens what I think makes him very unique guys six foot three he's very son he's very explosive he gets off the ball he creates separation he has a catch radius and speed and the athleticism to contort in the air and pluck the football he can be the next AJ Green at George's this is a guy that's gonna be giving defensive coordinators fits for years the guy mentioned losing some of the starters defensively for Georgia against the Baylor offense that we saw score quite a bit of points they've been stout tonight and we knew coming into this game motivation was going to be a big factor for a lot of these backups for George a lot of them highly recruited four and five star guys would they want to be here and make plays that has been the case they're fine they're flying around playing with passion as a result they tailed Baylor to just 97 total yards so far yeah Baylor has six penalties in this first half - OH one for Georgia they played the cleanest game we've seen Georgia played this season if this was adored the team with this offensive way their defenses played all season long I think we have a different conversation who within the play off of that number-4 spot talked about Georgia throughout the season and has been their defense that's carried them and again tonight the defense has been really really good in this first half in fact this is the 12th time Georgia's allowed zero points in a single half this season that is the most in FBS and the most by a Georgia in a season over the last 15 years some sad news in the NBA today David Stern who presided over the league for some three decades and took it to unprecedented Heights has died at the age of 77 as a result of a brain hemorrhage suffered some three weeks ago Commissioner Stern started his career in the league back in 1996 worked his way to the top job in 1984 Stern was the longest-serving commissioner in the history of the NBA growing the league from 23 to 30 teams in making significant advancements internationally in 2014 stern was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame [Music] [Applause] [Music] ceptin but Richard the pouch puts it back to front here they have a couple of men running Dave and it's George [Applause] and touchdown [Applause] touchdown [Applause] first touchdown a landers career in the big first half for George Pickens you're watching the Allstate Sugar Bowl from the mercedes-benz Superdome in New Orleans number five Georgia leading Baylor 19 to nothing as we head to the second half welcome back Happy New Year Sean McDonough Todd Blackledge Todd how does Baylor get back in this game they gotta do two things offensively they got to find a way to create some explosive plays they've just had zero in that first half and I know that's a tall order against this Georgia defense on the other side they have to have a different plan for George Penguins yet 11 catches I mean he's been a one-man wrecking crew and they've got to do something different for him in the second half the Sugar Bowl record for catches in a game is 14 but the Georgia record for catches in any bowl game is 12 by Hines Ward [Music] pickins is one away from that rodrigo Blankenship another touch back a moment ago Holly had a chance to speak with Baylor coach Matt rule try to find some openings yeah I think we have to push the ball down the field a little bit more we've gotten behind the toys got one pass interference came down here we just missed this one down here so know there are good defense and we knew it would be a lot of you know tough sledding but we've gotten behind him I think we're gonna have to be aggressive push the ball down the field and see if we can hit one all right George Pickens has been a problem what can you do a little different there defensively you know I just challenge that guys to go by him you know I mean we're we're playing off him that doe in front of him he's really been there answered and so we played really good defense early I said hey guys let's just go challenge me spring clear it's an opportunity for us let's go play better in the second half hopefully we actually call I think we will all right thank you really a chance to get off to a good start there Denzel Mims was open and he and Brewer could not connect they're really slow night for Denzel men's no catches in the big 12 championship one for eight yards tonight got a chance again and he's open deep and Brewers on target and Mims hangs on inside the 35 of Georgia well that's exactly what Matt rule told Holly we got behind him in the first half we've got to be more aggressive see if we can take some shots down the field and I just meant to chunk plays they've got to get some explosive plays that's the first one in the ball game they've got 40 yard play longest of the night by far for Baylor you alluded to titers Josh leaks stopped after a short game I think they've got two guys bim's and also Taekwon Thornton that can run by people Georgia wants to play tight coverage right up on you that's what you have to do you have to challenge them don't feel [Applause] Josh Bleek's nice action after the catch to get the first down got enough before Richard the cow Derick Stokes could combine to stop him credit to Jeff Nixon and Glen Thomas the co offensive coordinators an aggressive plan coming out here to start the third quarter got a little momentum offensively [Applause] best attempt there nice bounce outside that he stumbled she crossed the line of scrimmage he got three you heard Kirby's smart on the way to the locker room with Holly talked about Baylor's history that went a lot of close games they have five fourth-quarter comebacks to win this season that's the most in power five so they know they can do it Kerby smarts well aware that history as well after change direction hard to do against the fast defense they collar him near the line of scrimmage Lewis seen the freshman safety got the start tonight play right here for Charlie brew because you've got momentum you got something going you need a touchdown on this Drive certainly you want points cuz you've been shut out so you would take a field goal but you need a touchdown to get yourself right back in this football game mims goes wide to the right corner pressed up on a might have some help there Peck he came off man flinched and they attacked that Blitzen convert on the quick pop to mens well executed by baylor first down that requires a quarterback and wide receiver being on the same page they both see the Blitz they know where the coverage is coming from and where the ball needs to be placed and both guys were totally in sync on that third down conversion four out of five on this drive for breweries already thrown 27 passes in the game early in the third quarter a play fake for Mims again touchdown Baylor well MEMS a non-factor in their big 12 title game against Oklahoma and not much of a factor in the first half tonight clearly they made an effort to get him more involved on this Drive well you can see his strength and his length I mean that's a lot of hand fighting with he and Eric Stokes and if they're gonna let him do that you just have to be physical as a receiver and then go high point the football that's exactly what Denzel mems did beautiful possession that time for men they're leading we see 12 touchdown catch of the season he's the senior in the twenty eighth of his career that's third all-time at Baylor man only Corey Coleman and Kendall Wright John Mayer's kick the extra point and a little life on the Baylor sideline as we start the second half they're on the board it's now 19 to 7 in favor of Georgia [Music] aerial coverage provided by Goodyear from end zone to end zone Goodyear more driven Baylor finally finds the end zone an eighth place 75-yard Drive Mims had one catch in the first half or eight yards he had three on that drive for sixty yards and the touchdown he was physical and that's what you gotta be with the kind of coverage techniques that Georgie uses you've got to be physical as a receiver him certainly was on that drive it's the only player in FBS football at least eight receiving touchdowns in each of the last three seasons Noah Rosberg kicks off for Baylor Bears dangerous Robertson been very hesitant there's a replay from our pile on camera we'll never broke the plane it is a touch back the ball be placed at the 25-yard line [Applause] well we heard Jerry McGann the referee said didn't break the plane let's bring in Matt Austin our referee in the booth what do you think about that man yeah I think Jerry actually misspoke what he meant to say was the ball did not break break the plane coming out if the ball has to be completely out of the end zone forced be in the field of play right ball across the goal line stayed in the end zone that's a good call is to touch back and that's different than going in right Chris first possession of the half for Georgia Jake Fromm on target Tyler Simmons a five yard catch tackled immediately by Raleigh Tejada well we saw the offensive answer now what is the defensive answer going to be for George Pickett in the second half now it's single coverage now why here's the mere white they yank him down he's been a tough runner all night but couldn't get away from Grail and Arnold the redshirt junior from coach Texas and now the Baylor fans many of them on their feet on the near sideline engage for the first time tonight again they like Pickens into the boundary with that big body three-man rush they haven't done much to threaten from the 90 pros incomplete so a three and out and Baylor will get the ball back with a little momentum this is what they did to George Pickens on this they're down double coverage all right Ville snow said we're not gonna let him just have free rein in our defense we're gonna bake J prob go somewhere else with the football especially on third down Kirby smart instead of me why is picking something every release you know they sort of let him have his way getting off the line of scrimmage is too good an athlete to disrupt him somehow Jake Kamara on the punt Raylan Arnold back deep has some room on the catch from the 26 I like the way there's a floating down knees down at the 43 tackle bind the Coby Dean 42-yard punt 18 yard return that there is a flag could be a big penalty if it goes against Baylor I'm not sure what the calls going to be but this is excellent field position after that return that could be negated if it's a holding penalty or anything on Baylor Jordan returned holding the turn team number 25 10 you are currently from the end of the run [Applause] Trustin after the wide receiver running from there is he's tied up with the wide receiver that he got pulled down by the base man so the wide receiver Tyler Simmons for Georgia had ahold of Edna's face man I don't know how that's holding on after the flag came in so late it's almost as if the official only saw the very end of that now that Matt rules seen a replay on the screen he's even more agitated than he was before from the 33 still good field position play Big Mike Brewer immediately in trouble dumps it off Josh flakes in trouble the idol I described in gym whack to the ground by Nolan Smith the true freshman from Savannah we're going to get a penalty though a smack to the head by Malik airing on the quarterback Charlie Brewer he got hit in the face and this is going to get that yardage back from the penalty on the on the punt return just the second Georgia [Applause] previous five automatic first down Malik herring and Charlie Brewer did a good job just to give her the football because it was immediate pressure he gets rid of the ball and there you see right the end the left hand hits Charlie Brewer right across the head and that draws the flag the pressure was from Nolan Smith immediately Baelor can take advantage of the break in the new field position the pistol now Jim Michael hasty is the back and he get outside he did take prouder runs him down but there to the Georgia forty-six here's Holly Denzel Mims the wide receiver came away for Baylor on that last drive but he was injured on that play he took a hit and very beginning of that series he's been over on the sidelines where they've put an additional padding on his left ribcage down around below his waist and they have patted him out back she had to reso a bit full in the back of his jersey as well needle and thread out on the sideline but now he's back out on the field they looked like he landed on the football in that first incomplete pass Brewer sets on target and drop by two Michael hasty would have had a first down Monte Rice the linebacker there for Georgia but said he just took his eye off the football at the last minute either thinking about turning up vo watching some of the sideline wise [Music] down situation now four of ten Baylor is our third down actually folklore the ball [Music] interesting formation here the tight punch to the right of Brewer he brings hasty back to his left hip he'll try to get men singled up on the near sideline was Brewer has a pocket has a receivers first down or does he get Georgia defender saying it's an incomplete pass and it is missed off handling was he intended receiver guarded by Marc Webb and it's a good throw you see Henley a bigger target working against a smaller web but the ball gets ripped out that's just good physical tough play by Marc Webb to get that football out but there's a long way to go in this game I think Matt roldo feels like we have momentum right now let's go for this on fourth down and four you like the decision if they doing I think your defense put your defense in a real bind here if you don't convert the two chances to convert to drop passes and now Matt wants one more time to think about the play clock was almost done as well Dowler the first of the half seven to go the action heating up here in New Orleans the old state Sugar Bowl wants you by AT&T and chick-fil-a it's the little things that make gameday worth celebrating he mentioned the long colorful history of the sugar bowl first sugar bowl back in 1935 Tulane was undefeated lady fainted thug beated temple coach fight Pop Warner and in the first game inside this building in the Superdome 1975 Alabama number three defeated Penn State number seven 13 to 6 this is number five Georgia number seven Baylor the action heating up it was 19 nothing Georgia the half but Baylor is scored and Matt rule leaves the offense on the field to go for it on fourth down and four from the Georgia 46 this could actually be a quick kick also that possibility either mims isolated on the bottom of the screen DJ Daniel [Applause] play brewer notes it from behind by ozz lorry they got the ball in wouldn't matter they took over on downs but Ramon Walker wound up with it for the fired up defensive coordinator Dan landing Javari just beat the left tackle Conor Galvan that was one on one he's a speed rusher and a sprinter stand and he just beats the left tackle to the quarterback no help on the outside by the back Charlie brew had no idea that pressure was coming Georgia takes over on the Baylor side of the 50 yard line we talked about before I don't like the decision it's a defensive game he's affected to be a defensive game the field position of the field position you know you're playing one of the best defenses there there's a wall and now you've given momentum perhaps back to Georgia here's Kenny McIntosh the ball carrier he gets eight on first down for the Bulldogs huge play by OCHA wari brother BJ played at Michigan it came alive in our game last year here at a nice beat was hurt most of the season is able to play towards the end of the year and maybe had his finest game against Texas in the sugar boy a year ago Chris Miller down on the play for Baylor senior playing in his last game forty third career start grabbing at his right leg wildcard weekend starts this weekend in the NFL and it begins on ESPN and ABC Saturday at 4:35 Eastern Time Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills taking on deshaun Watson the Houston Texas NRG Stadium coverage starts with post season NFL countdown at 3:00 Eastern Time the pregame game both live on the ESPN app you can watch anywhere texans lost at home in the wild-card game last year to the Colts and they're helping Chris Miller off the field what a coaching job Shawn McDermott has done yeah with the Buffalo Bills in his staff it's a team certainly on the rise back in the playoffs again and happy to see you a great fan base though lonely so loyal so passionate good for them so Miller's out JT woods is in number 22 sophomore second it's short this is a good chance maybe to go play action and take another shot at Pickens if they get him isolated [Applause] it's McIntosh bouncing outside that he's run down by woods we just came in for Chris Miller to first down for Georgia inside the 30 watch tamari Sawyer the starting right tackle one of the new starters does a nice job he's blocking on Lynch the big 12 Defensive Player of the Year does a nice job of manhandling him and McIntosh cuts off his block [Applause] braum off the play fake throws far sideline nice coverage by Jameson Houston on George Pickens with her just joining us at 11 catches for 165 yards and a touchdown in the first half it's the same kind of play in same kind of one-on-one situation they scored the touchdown on it was a good throw but that was excellent coverage by Houston able to knock that ball away a lot of to tight ends for Georgia all that 12 personnel one back to tight ends [Applause] and a nice play Kenny McIntosh DUP by Jordan Williams behind the line of scrimmage the Baylor defense after they went for it near midfield China stopped force a field goal attempt by George good quick read by Jordan Williams he slipped inside the block Charlie Warner the tight end was supposed to pick him up but it was such a quick read by Jordan Williams he didn't get a piece of him and a negative yardage play on second down big for the Baylor defense third down and 13 eight and a half to go third quarter again Pickens out here to the white side nearside taught lunging for the line to gain his Simmons think he was out as he was lunging at the 19 and it looks like the field goal unit is coming out look from a camera in the yard marker and that's a perfect throw to there there is grabbing and pushy and that ball has to be thrown to the outside of the receiver but not out of bounds that was a perfect place ball by Jake [Applause] ship it's a fake it's the holder Jake camarda for the first down and if he doesn't stop what might be a touchdown Eli wolf with the lead block Eli Wolff is the protector on the other side he becomes the lead blocker it's perfectly executed easily gets the first down and it could have been a touchdown tick camarda the punter and holder the lights the Georges side line so the offense still out there there's a mere white power Zoe's way the endzone for a touchdown [Applause] in the two tight ends Werner and Eli wolf watched these two guys here 17 and 89 get out on the perimeter and get key blocks and then the power of Zamir white takes care of the unblocked defender as he runs right through JT woods the safety [Applause] crowd chants his name in Athens Zeus his nickname our flea built tough runner we've seen that several times today he's rushed for 72 yards very little action in the backfield from the Andre sweat flag hit shift kicks the extra point and that decision to go for it near midfield backfires for Baylor Georgia takes advantage of the short field seems to have momentum back back up by 19 [Music] giorgia take the 26-7 lead after the strong running from the mirror wide what a story of inspiration and overcoming adversity in his young life born into this world with a lot of different challenges of cleft palate let's piss on his ability board and kidneys that were not functioning doctors did not give him much of a chance spent over three months in the ICU for newborns but here he is playing college football whose overcome injuries to be out here on the field what a story of inspiration for his amid fear mere white and the Georgia Bulldogs to ACL tears from the state playoffs the senior in high school one fall came to Georgia 2018 there's Josh Blake's on the kickoff return he's tripped up and winds up at the 25-yard line here's another look at the touchdown just kind of this sweet play that's been effective good blocking on the edge by the tight ends Samir white powers it in a new offensive line coach Matt Luke former head coach at Ole Miss loves it and is fired up and one of the things Kirby told us is he is just he's so energetic and he's a guy who cheers not only for the offensive line cheers for the defense everybody brought a lot of energy and passion to practice it's a great addition we wish well as the head coach at Arkansas if it is to replacement Matt ruthless certainly do a great job for Georgia both with the line in and recruiting to michael hasty straight ahead Monte rice and Devante Wyatt made the tackle seven minutes to go third quarter Kent Baylor find a way to get a spark again they had it briefly getting stopped on fourth down on the play by Aziz Allah jewellary at least from the moment take the wind out of the sails of the Bears Brill aside she's on target across the 45 goes Taekwon Thornton with a first down tell you what Charlie Brewer doesn't have very long to throw the football Georgia coming after him steps up in the pocket he ludes the pressure and delivers a strike for the first down no questioning his toughness thriller just threw it away Charlie Brewers from a football family no strangers to bowl games all the way back to his grandfather [Music] Charlie played quarterback at Texas beat Texas A&M twice in the mid fifties when they were coached by Bear Bryant and Charlie's dad Robert played quarterback at Texas he was the MVP of the 82 Cotton Bowl when the Longhorns beat Bear Bryant then at Alabama and Charlie Brewers older brother Michael played quarterback go to Texas Tech and Virginia Tech screen-tested Abner Watts up blockers inside the Georgia 33 yard line now a flag thrown by the 40-yard line there are two flags down back behind the end of the play well that was really well set up and executed on the screen and it it's really because of the patience of Charlie brewer he sold pass and showed pass for as long as he could and then slipped it to Edna on the screen by that time you got lineman downfield getting into blocks and interesting to see what this call is that was an excellent play call and designed for Baylor then these are all-star crews this group out of the big 10 Jerry McGann doesn't work with most of the officials on this crew during the year perhaps in times like this the communications a little new and different seems like they have it sorted out well maybe not [Applause] now the lion judge Dan Gallagher in their dad to the conversations on a foul bass bass defense number 32 after the play unsportsmanlike conduct offense number 55 both mouths would be of course it will end up at the 31-yard line first down so the facemask was on bonny rice which you can see it's not on the ball carrier it's on Denzel men's right there that's the facemask penalty on Monty rise like conduct the game Xavier Newman blocking outside the 50-yard line it'll be late in the play well must be because he's way behind the play here it comes then the back of Lewis scene [Applause] Austin nodding get us here at the booth thanks that was the correct call they said the ball winds up where the play ended exactly said they broke to enforced or they'd either get it to say this the only difference is for Newman Johnson it's a if he gets another one of those unsportsmanlike he's out open them big hole outside for Abner can miss tackle the absorbs the hit and gets bounced out of bounds by DJ Daniel was Lewis seen who missed the tackle closer to the line of scrimmage and bailers on the move again with a 17 yard run nice job by the left tackle Conor Galvan turning his man out and Monte Rice who usually takes the right angle he stepped inside have got blocked by the center was not able to scrape over to make the tackle you don't see that the state made my body rise too often but that enabled that to be a big run five and a half to go third quarter single coverage and a blank down Marc Webb was tangled up with Chris Platt the intended receiver in the end zone Charlie Brewer did a nice job of giving his receiver a chance there I'll tell you what here's what's happening in the second half different than the first half Georgia always puts their hands on you their defense they always push in grab pass interference defense number 23 the ball be placing the 2-yard automatic first down the difference in the second half is Baylor is fighting back they're pushing and grabbing two now there's the hold with the left arm you could have it could have gone either way right I'm gonna set either one of those guys was holding the other guy's arm both sides had reason to be a little agitated tonight the officiating abner on first and goal ducks down he's down inside the one short of the end zone you know Matt will would feel a lot better if his team can punch it in here and respond quickly after this decision to go for a none for that for didn't work out they tried to go fast Sean to try to keep the same personnel on the field for Georgia and they did not get a clean center quarterback exchange and they are very lucky that they got the ball back I don't think Charlie Brewer ever had the football it looked like it was gonna be a design run for him and I just wonder about that I mean I know he's a tough runner he reminded them Texas the right of the Georgia coaches the Texas quarterback Sam Ehlinger who is a top runner but need to be careful you'd think with Brewer just recently back from the concussion Toby Bullard the full-back in the block now Abner is the tailback they're looking to the sideline now they're going to use a timeout well they've spent two timeouts here in the third quarter extreme your favorite sports stories in series with ESPN Plus Disney class and Hulu get all three for just $12.99 a month [Music] big play with 4:15 to go in the third quarter third down and goal for Baylor from about a foot away from the goal line and they're back in the shotgun you know that fumbled snap might have been there either their first or second play under center and when you don't do that all the time that can be a little tricky especially on the goal line Brewer has been an effective runner near the goal line ten rushing touchdowns this year he follows hasty and scores second effort got him in that's reminiscent of sam millinger from a year ago throughout the texas quarterbacks career he is a tough young man Charlie Brewer out of Lake Travis high school in Austin Texas this is his quarterback power you're going to pull lead with the tight end the back is the lead you're pulling the backside guard Khalil key he wasn't in initially on the jump but the second effort when he hit the ground he goes into the end zone tough hard-nosed run by Charlie Brewer and you see how he had that ball protected with both arms 18 career rushing touchdown john mayer's kicks the extra point Baylor after being shot out of the first half scored 14 points here in the third quarter and have twice now got a 19-point deficit down to 12 tip off your weekend and the new year our star-studded NBA doubleheader Friday on ESPN and the ESPN app JoEllen be to the 76ers Dagon James Harden Russell Westbrook and the Rockets that's at 8 p.m. and Anthony Davis and the Lakers host ADEs former team the pelicans in the Staples Center our coverage begins with NBA countdown at 7:00 on the subject the NBA our condolences to the family of David Stern a longtime NBA commissioner for 30 years died today as a result of a brain hemorrhage he suffered a couple of weeks ago inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014 and deservedly so the most important people in the history of the NBA and again our condolences to died and their family Commissioner Stern at his bedside today so Noah Russian bird kicks off the matrice robertson back deep transferred from now he'll run it out this time and he nearly reached the 25-yard line mark Milton made the tackle so Jake Fromm and what might be his last game at Georgia's had a good night 16 for 23 for 207 and two touchdowns be interesting to see what his decision is said he hasn't really thought about it at all focused on this game that's for after the game but it'll be under seats this board loves college football yep and you just wonder you know if he thinks it doesn't look like his stock dipped muched odd this year because Tom McShea still has him as the fourth ranked quarterback and maybe a first-round pick I think if he feels pretty confident that he's going to be a first-round pick that's going to weigh pretty heavily pressure the media lead for one of the few times tonight James Lockhart was there first and down goes from where the help from James Lynch back at the 20-yard line here's Lockhart right here watched the outside set by Cape May he gets too wide on his set and Lockhart goes right inside him immediately Lynch is working on a tight end Eli wolf that's a mismatch for Lynch but it was for footwork by gait maze that let lock are tend to start the play first sack of the night for Baylor that's their school record forty fourth of the season Georgia doesn't give up many Fromme in trouble again gravy on Roy bleeding away that time for the Baylor Bears Georgia tried to throw quit they thought they kind of free access throw to Pickens he showed like he was coming off but it was tighter coverage Rob didn't like what he had there he wanted to throw to Pickens right now didn't like it and by that time nothing there and Brabant Roy Baylor's goes as a sack even though from starting to run so no sax all night long than to in as many plays third down and 17 with 2:45 to go on the third they've run a lot of draws when they've had third and extra long so far against this Baylor defense they said Kenny McIntosh out here's Matt Landers and he gets stood up and driven down by Henry black and Jordan Williams and the Bears fans fired up as Baylor plays in its second Sugar Bowl first one way back in 1957 this is one of the big games in Baylor history trying to win 12 games in a season for the first time here's Jake camarda on to punch Raylan Arnold standing back at the Baylor 37 yard line [Applause] another good kick he's had a good night including the run on the fake field goal for a first down long and not returnable along the far sideline officials gonna market it peers at the 35 there is a flag down saw light warning or Georgia their first of the game [Applause] first down well guys something to keep your eye on here and the lake going in this game is the fatigue factor on this Georgia defense remember they're without a substantial amount of guys and they usually rotate people they're used to doing that but guys who are in there playing aren't being asked to play for more plays than they normally would Curtis smart said they even did more conditioning in the practices leading up to this bowl game to be ready for this moment but keep your eye on that Georgia defense they look like they're getting a little bit tired he thought they were a little fatigued in the first half thought Baylor was as well but the longer this game goes on the way they like to suck winces they have a good call against it Preston up there to the 44 no argument the 43-yard line a gain of eight mark web enricher lecounte made the tackle with some really nice adjustments offensively for baylor they had 97 yards in the first half of all offense didn't look like they could amount anything no explosive plays Jeff Nixon calling the plays and that time Monte Rice says enough of that he drops to Michael hasty back inside the 40 perfectly timed his pressure he's right here he doesn't show blitz until the last minute comes right through that gap and the quickness gets right to hasty I'm blocked made it relatively easy for the junior out of Huntsville Alabama second team all-conference this year there's third down nearly six at the boundary right here Sharlee brewer it as he froze and it is hot Worthing in a market RJ Smith that's right in front of the paler sideline and crowd they crawled they thought Sneed had passed the line to bake looks like he's a foot short it looks like mat rules going to go for it on fourth down again Georgia sub still running on on defense and they have to wait because Baylor sought to give Jordan a chance to substitute mat ruled down to one time he's under further review growing on the field was that the runner was short for the line the game Tom Fiedler conducting the replay booth tonight we'll take a look at this one charlie Brewer does a nice job getting rid of the football as the pocket is collapsing around him and he was hit immediately after the catch by DJ Daniel well there what is his knee down when he makes the catch let's bring in Matt Austin last year was still a fishing as Southeastern Conference official and worked one of the two national semifinal games the game between Notre Dame and Clemson all right maybe your biography there give you a little extra time to look at a replay or two but how would you view this man well from the pylon cam it appeared that the ball crossed the line to gain and was caught there then he was driven back by the defender so I would like I would like to see this live right there he looks like the ball is beyond he's got control of it as Todd said his down but even if he was driven back he would still get that forward progress so I think this is it going to be a first now yeah it's a great time for us to elude our crew left by our producer phil dean our director scott johnson and our terrific crew we've had the pleasure of working with all season long this would be our last game of the season i think that's about as good a look as any replay official could hope to have and i would agree with Matt that looks like he got the line to bake we'll see it's conclusive it was a good throw it was a great catch and it was a nice defensive play by DJ Daniel it's just a matter of getting the right spot at the end of the play final seconds of the third quarter wasn't much engagement from the crowd in the first half Georgia had its way proud of just more than 55,000 here tonight that's about 17,000 under capacity further review the receiver did make the line of game [Applause] and now Matt rule doesn't have to make another tough decision whether to go for a look like he was going to send the offense back out there to go for it on fourth and inches now it's a new set of downs much different Baylor team offensively here in the third quarter than what we saw in the first half there comes another Georgia blitz Brewer andreat rate and throws incomplete arm going forward as Taye Crowder arrived just the speech on that this is a screen they're trying to set up a screen to enter but Crowder gets on Brewer so quickly that they can't even get the screen pass watch the linemen they're gonna go set the screen for abnormalities of the football now Abner was slowed getting out of the backfield by a Georgia defender as well Jake Crowder as a guy who came to Georgia as a running back originally was moved to linebacker has had some big games for this Georgia defense this season and a huge play in their win at Tennessee which we saw in person a scoop and score of 60 yard fumble recovery Devante Wyatt defensive lineman junior from Decatur Georgia junior college transfer from Hutchinson and Kansas now sitting up and he was expected to see more playing time tonight in the absence of Tyler Clark one of the Georgia players not here for as good as this defense is second in the country in scoring defense which really was the most important step right one player on the first team all-sec team on the defense JRE he's not here tonight and one on the second team from the coaches and to me they were the best position to judge and that was Tyler Clark so it really is a team defense it's a team I think it's been a brilliant job coaching by Dan landing and the defensive coaches of giving roles to funny many different players he said everybody that's in our defensive room they're convinced and they believe they have a role that's important to the event that's why you see so many different combinations and guys on different down and distances and they all have roles that have been given to them to make the defense what it is that greed was probably the only player that stayed on the field all the time Dale Carter number 76 has come in he's a senior second and 10 1/2 minutes ago came to bring pressure again Brewer forced to retreat again mines Christophe Henley crosses midfield goes down at the Georgia 48 three yards short of the line to make might be the last play of the third quarter the good play by Charlie brewery he kept the play alive he got the completion even though they didn't get the first down its third and manageable and I think they're in four down territory again possibly format rule as we get ready to start the fourth quarter Taylor at 97 yards of offense in the first half they had 154 in the third quarter they're back in the game as we head to the fourth quarter of the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans [Music] time for tonight's Allstate mayhem moment Todd I haven't seen this before they're at the end of the quarter that Baylor team came over to talk to the coaches minute now if mat rule something down there but they went down the student section almost as if they were pouring them to create a little mayhem and came to the near sideline where there are more Baylor fans behind their bench the Georgia said okay you do that we're gonna put a little light show playing the third and fourth quarter great atmosphere it's not a sellout crowd but they're fully engaged now and they're watching what's turned out to be an entertaining game here's third and three for Baylor first play of the fourth quarter twice down by 19 trailing now 26 to 14 they're at the Georgia 48 perhaps and four down territory Charley Brewers pass batted up in the air and incomplete they continue to bring rushers from deep at brewer for the most part it's been effective Malik herring batted it out of the year he was looking for Christoph Henley his tight end in the middle of the field and Malik Haren gets that left hand on the football knocks it away at this time rather than go for it on fourth down and three that rule is deciding to punt and try to play field position or do you have a fake punt you could in your arsenal we saw Georgia execute a fake field goal effectively giorgia looks like they're in a safe position Hunter's have been very good tonight Isaac power it's batted down at the one-yard line perfect mark Milton with excellent work and a perfect punt by Isaac power it just matters where the ball is Milton the first guy gets there knocks it back it hasn't crossed excellent work milk was the first guy JT woods the second guy to knock it out [Music] can't do it any better now you count on this rugged Baylor defense that's been kind of the strength of your team all season they get a three and out deep in Georgia territory big special teams play by Baylor as he said they make a lot very well coached on special teams by Mike siravo's been with Matt rule back to temple when they turned the temple program around they've done the same thing here at Baylor in three years don't be surprised to see a deep play-action shot up first down and it is a play fake from almost on the backline of the end zone a little too long before George Pickens you know most people think when you're that far back you got to just get the ball out you run the football a lot of times it's good to take a shot like that on first down again I think one of the big stories of the night the fine offensive line play by Georgia tonight without their two starting tackles both of whom are getting ready for the NFL this I'm patched together by Kirby smart the new offensive line coach Matt Luke's done very well against one of the best sac teams in the country with big 12th Defensive Player of the Year up there's number 93 James Lynch some beer white within three of a first down wrestled down by Chris Miller back in the game after he left for a while earlier here's another critical play third down George's not converted on its last four third downs say what Samir white is running with physicality and he is breaking tackle that time he broke an arm tackle of defensive aim and James Lockhart wouldn't be surprised if it's an inside handoff to him again everybody on the Georgia defense standing up from looking to the sideline so unusual to see three defensive linemen all in a two-point stance on a third down play Rob on to the end zone far sideline wide open Tyler Simmons big play for Georgia out across the 30 yard line not exactly sure with the coverage there was double coverage on George Pickens on the short side but a little bit of a miscommunication on the wide side of the field in terms of who was going to cover the deep third the corner went deep there was no underneath defender and an easy throwing catch and a read by jake frog when you're rushing three and dropping eight it fit me been as wide open as he was Simmons goes in motion giving it to him a couple of times now Samir white powers a head elf Bernard made the tackle for Baylor and the Audrey Swift comes in we've only seen him running inside one time they had him in two rut the flea-flicker they had a meant to throw down by the goal line bred in this day and age a lot of players especially with a bright NFL future wouldn't the played in this bowl game like James Lynch was offside yeah and he made contact when they stopped there 93 with contact five-yard penalty second down this Georgia offensive lines that a nice job holding him in check big 12 Defensive Player of the Year unanimous first-team all-conference one of the five finalists for the 10th Hendrix award as the top defensive end of the country that was won by chase young of Ohio State first team all-american we haven't called his name very much tonight second down and two Zamir white nice holes with run first down 45 yard line nice double-team by the right tackle Sawyer and the tight end they're just running power football inside they've got nice yardage on the sweet tight plays and right now at this point in the game in the fourth quarter they want to try to keep powering it inside with severe white mostly all two tight end formations for Georgia here in this ball game Marcel you're getting just his second start of the season at right tackle or Isaiah Wilson it started 24 games in his career opted not to play tonight drop pass Samir white open in the flat it'll be second and 10 with 12 minutes to go Georgia has led throughout leads 26 to 14 those are the place where you really miss DeAndre sweat he's such a great receiver out of the backfield the coverage went with George Pickens and you could see Andres in it do you make that you got a lot of room to run if does 24 catches on the year he's their fourth leading receiver on the team Kenny McIntosh the running back now from fake to him Pickens nifty moves after the clash what a lunges forward for what looks to be a first down [Applause] excellent work after the catch it's just a short rowdy attacks the leverage of the defender attacks that outside shoulder Jake Fromm gets him the ball on time and then you just see the toughness and the strength working for extra yardage you mentioned Baylor had to do a much better job with Pickens and a half that's his first catch of the second half at the head 11 in the first half McIntosh stood up you know you wonder if what might be set up for Georgia right now Jake from season running all these inside runs is just for Jake probably keep one like a zone we think they're there the previous play by the way pickets with that catch is 12th the game ties the Georgia record for most catches in any bowl game this is their 5060 school history Hines Ward head 12 in the 1998 Outback Bowl against Wisconsin is 33 to 6 Georgia win break it before the Knights done James Lynch didn't get anywhere near from he throws that is dropped in the end zone by dimitra's Robertson tough to tell from ear to is deflected by the defender Grail and Arnold well because Jake Fromm was moving in the pocket and throwing back to his left the ball kind of got outside if that ball is thrown where he can continue to run to it it's an easy Ken should have been a catch was not a catch but it was a little bit harder because Jake Brown was rolling too going back to the left that looks like a lot of the year for Georgia Kirby smart said promise completion percentage which is down about seven percent from last year wouldn't be much different this year and they not dropped so many balls from finally James Lynch introduces himself sack back at the 48-yard line he just overpowered maze right here the left tackle now Kinley the left guard is there to help but doesn't really do a good job helping his left tackle and lynched his power pool rush that time on his way to the quarterback forcing the puck that could have been a touchdown on second down they get a sack on third down and now Baylor will get the football back 47 sacks they had 25 all of last season Jake camarda the under 10 minutes to go plus 22 and sax plus 20 in turnovers of one year to the next that's pretty good pretty good turnaround for your defense that helps you doing the record around 11 two years ago to 11 and 2 this season Monday January 13th at 8:00 Eastern Time on ESPN and ESPN at the college football playoff national championship game presented by AT&T what a matchup right here at the mercedes-benz Superdome in New Orleans number one LSU number three Clemson Clemson's 129 straight LSU 15 in a row led by the Heisman trophy-winning quarterback Joe Paro who was unbelievable in their semi-final win against Oklahoma Baylor down by 12 after the play fake deep throw charlie brewer trying to hit Denzel mittens in stride it was a little bit too long here's Holly very sweet gesture tonight here by the Sugar Bowl Media Relations folks that empty seat was left in the press box for Carli McCord the local sports reporter and a hose to covered the Saints and the pelicans who is cracked tragically killed in a car or plane accident last week you might remember that she is the daughter-in-law of LSU offensive coordinator Steve Ensminger beautiful gesture there with that lovely bouquet we do have information her funeral service will be held on Saturday January 4th in Baton Rouge and in lieu of flowers a scholarship fund is in her name at the Northwestern State University [Applause] very touching indeed Charlie Brewer pulls it down runs all the way for a first down we also want to point out that a similar thing happened today at the Rose Bowl in honor of our friend and colleague at a shop who also passed away at the age of 34 the Rose Bowl people left the empty seat the press box read who would have been there covering yeah that game on our hearts continued 8 for both families for all the victims of that plane crash and their loved ones vested Edler wrestled down by Monte rice short gain you go back to some come on called mismanagement but times to this half where Baylor's had to use a couple timeouts that it was a little sloppy now they really wish they have them under nine minutes to go he's lucky to get away with that miscommunication with Denzel Mims who was flying up the sideline DJ Daniel got his hands on it couldn't pick it off for Georgia pimps he converted this to a go Ralph Daniel had eyes on the quarterback the whole time and very nearly picked that one off a lot of green grass in front of a petit cadeau big play right here for Baylor third down and seven false start offense number 52 five-yard penalty remains third down so costly from third and seventh to third and 12 we have a 12 yards to gain and beat your quarterback typically has to hold on to the ball a little bit longer season-high 90 penalty yards now previous high was 83 mid-october against Texas Tech third down and 12 they rushed five do the Bulldogs Brewer nice job that danced around it he has a long way to run that he's not going to get there what a play thrown yeah on the near sideline he definitely got hit in the white I mean Charlie Brewer was not going to pick up the first down it was great pursuit by Nolan Smith that Trayvon Walker a pair of freshman highly regarded freshman and Walker really put a lick on Charlie Brewer who was still down on the field remember Charlie Brewer wait for the call to the play personal foul late hit on the defense number 44 15-yard penalty be added on the other run automatic first down remember Charlie Brewer came out of the big 12 championship game with a head injury two weeks before that he got hit in the head against Texas also here's the end of the play does a nice job to get outside the pocket he's not going to get the first down and there's the hip it draws the penalty on Trayvon Walker and again it's the back of his head hitting the turf that may be the issue for Charlie Brewer at the end of that play and that rule was asked after the game about Brewer going back into that big 12 title game for a few plays mr. yelman field level it happened on their side I didn't see that he was wobbly getting up other people their spotters the press box was supposed to tell us that sort of ease that I would never jeopardize the health of one of our players there's been times I took players out of the game because I didn't like the way they were talking to me on the sidelines had him checked out so he felt bad that Brewer went back into that game was Mike Duffy who finally said you need to go out for more testing but the number of mat rules said to us the other days three yeah three concussions for Brewer we as I said earlier we asked Charlie O'Day are you concerned he said no I'd be concerned Gary Bohannon is warming up and will be coming into the game almost certainly when we come back the Allstate Sugar Bowl boots you by Allstate reminding you that football season is mayhem Taco Bell's $1 double stack tacos and Capital One what's in your wallet I'm very quiet right now inside the city spent Super Dome you see the Baylor players on their knees in prayer as they're still tending to Charlie Brewer on the near sideline as you can see is sitting up Holly Rowe says he's been moving he has been communicating he told us after the concussion against Oklahoma December 7th he spent about a week in a dark room he doesn't remember much about it and I'm fearful Todd that he's gonna have the same experience here you see the sign of the days look as he was looking around the building they're taking each step very slowly and very carefully the ground [Music] it wasn't the hit by Walker I think it was his head hitting the back of the back of his head hitting the ground same thing that happened in the big 12 championship game so we have Gary Bohannon who was the guy who the second quarterback who came in in that big 12 championship game as well we looked there were a couple of scores his stats weren't great he was playing on an injured knees a good runner he walked that one over the head of Jamaica hasty there's a flag down back behind the line of scrimmage when we saw Bohannon in the big 12 championship game he had a little bit of a knee injury offense number 76 had a little bit of a knee from the Kansas game so he wasn't completely as effective as he could be because of that and then we also saw Jacob Zeno their third team quarterback who was the scout team quarterback all during the week and he came in and made a couple nice throws in the fourth quarter then and over time he just couldn't finish the deal Jacobs Ino a true freshman had played in only one game all year thrown into it at the end and you saw only two completions but both were huge Gators that he demonstrated a rocket arm he was a very highly recruited player out of high school in San Antonio NFL caliber arm for sure yeah one was I think an 81 yard touchdown the other was a 78 yard completion that set up a field goal Baelor fans down below us cheering - charlie brewers they put him on the golf cart to take him off the field juh Michael hasty stacked up and driven back led by Tate Crowder [Music] the other thing that Bohannon has to kind of have in the hair compass II know they're gonna play both these guys that day I don't think this is a permanent switch I think they're kind of go back and forth knowing that see know maybe has a little better arm a little livelier arm and go hand and gives them a little bit more of a dual threat I think we'll see bolt up up here the rest of the time for Baylor [Applause] xeno on target RJ speed didn't quite get to the line to make about a yard short into Georgia Territory just inside the 48 stop by Lewis C burn in one almost certainly four down territory taystee first down the yard despaired of the georgia 46 but we're more than midway through the fourth quarter now baylor still down by 12 and whoever is in a quarterback there has to be a little bit of a speed up on the clock internally because you've got to score twice 6 1 204 freshman out of San Antonio Texas John Jay high school Jacobs enal hasty and troubling swung down by Malik herring for loss of three still trying to run the football herring is going to make a quick inside move beats the left guard Khalil key again the quickness of this Georgia D their defensive lineman all very athletic all very quick and they rotate him to try to keep them as fresh as possible but I bet this is the most snaps herrings played in a game in quite a while still stuffing the run as the Bulldogs have all year long xeno tucked it down didn't get back to the line of scrimmage herring there again with Devante Wyatt excellent coverage downfield was only a three-man route only three guys released into the route for Baylor they were all blanketed downfield with a free safety helping over the top nowhere to go with the football for Zeno right now he's got to think part of the yardage back doesn't have to get it all back on this one throw the biggest thing you just can't hold the football long because your o wine has had their issues blocking Miss Georgia front when it comes to pass a pass rush they're playing in just his third game of the year they've been the last three games played by Baylor checks it down to Michael hasty slips down gained about a yard and a half fourth down I would think across midfield under five and a half minutes to go you have to go for ya because not only do you need to scores you need two touchdowns I mean it's not a touchdown of the field goal to tie the football game or take the lead [Music] the operation is slow and I think that's one of the negatives of having an inexperienced freshman in the game right now they rush 5-0 town he goes back behind midfield they puts nolan smith and they've timed up some blitzes very well tonight dan laning Kirby smart in the Georgia Bulldog defenders executing is Georgia takes over on down yeah they had a couple blintzes they're gonna bring Nolan Smith they're also gonna bring a guy off the slot they're very creative they're very exotic on third down and they get to the quarterback Zeno for another sack [Music] here's tonight's Capital One rewarding performance it's George Pickens and they found the coverage a10 coverage single man-to-man this is in the first half the touchdown beautiful throw a little bit later they tried to bring extra coverage to help but beautiful route running by George Pickett created separation he's been outstanding all night there's Tyler Simmons in motion again taking a handoff he gets about four so under five to go only one timeout for Baylor you'd think kirby smarts priority right here is running the clock I think you just pointed to the clock right there to his wide receivers say look the clocks on our side right now we got a two score lead take guard time now he's got the right quarterback to manage this at this point Jake Fromm will not snap the ball till they get well inside ten seconds probably closer to four three seconds on the play clock he's been here done this a lot his forty second career start sameer white got a very nice job tonight with deandre Swift limit it picks up another first down there is a flag down you're gonna get the right guard maybe Warren Dixon offense number 50 10-yard penalty from the previous spot replay second down they got his first career start we mentioned earlier as a redshirt freshman he had only played in five games this season Todd only two of the last eight so to be a part of the line that's done quite nice job tonight kudos to him against a very you know old seasoned outstanding offensive front that Baylor has one of the best defenses and many statistical categories in the big 12 rushing the passer lock runs down to four minutes to go the play clock under fives Todd said from she doesn't need to be reminded of that part of it the near white so what'd you tell your backs and receivers is protect the football don't let them come in stripper remember this is a defense it has had its thirty takeaways this season and plus 14 in a turnover margin so take care of the football get the yardage you can to get down and don't run out of bounds and stop the clock another three and a half to go George it looks like it's comfortably on its way to victory now we've talked about Jake prom as the decision to make after this game about whether he's going to go into the draft after this is junior season I did communicate a game with Tom McShea today he said he has Jake as a late first round pick but he said that when you talk to people the grades kind of all over the place for jake prong sets up a screen to Kenny McIntosh he loves college football you know the coaches told us he's not really a fan of NFL football he watches college football when they say hey did you see the throw Aaron Rodgers Bay the other day - no I didn't see it he really watches it but I think if he's the first-round pick you're coming back next year perhaps we can use it games hiya check Jake from despite the accuracy problems and of course that's a collective thing recently still number one career completion percentage at Georgia he's got over 8,000 yards for his career tonight seventy-eight touchdown passes only Aaron Mari is throwing more that's gonna be a hard wreck with a break 121 thrown by Murray [Applause] as possible Jake is taking his last snap as a Georgia Bulldog we'll see what happens it's a punt by John Mayer's exceed by Jake camarda and a fair catch made by Grail and Arnold if i'm jake from me he just loves college football loves georgia white woods it's a great place to go to school it's a great program they have terrific coaches maybe wants one more year of college but you're gonna lose both your offensive tackles to DeAndre swiss-prot coming back they're bringing in some talented freshman wide receivers but still wonder how good the receiver group should have been instituted well you know they're gonna continue to recruit that that's one thing they're gonna have talent they're gonna have a great deepness I think I mentioned earlier the fact of being a first-round draft pick I think I also think that in terms of NFL grades I think the way he handled how disappointing things were this year and how tough things were I think that speaks a lot about his character and I think NFL people pay attention to that with hot pretty high regard as well so I I still think his NFL grades probably did not drop a whole lot from what they might have thought of him last year at the beginning of this year I think he's a leader he's a winner he's a competitor he processes things quickly you think I'll be a good NFL quarterback I think he has a chance to be yeah I do he doesn't have an overpowering arm but I think he can make throws that need to be made I think that he's improved a lot as a downfield passer from early on in his career I think that was one of the real knocks on him when he played as a freshman softly clearly been away three straight SEC East titles of course it's not just him as an excellent team around him Denzel Mims the catch DJ Daniel the tackle [Music] EgyptAir men's right arm issue [Music] it's one of those what just goes numb down your arm that's tingling for a little bit we'll be a disappointing first trip to the Sugar Bowl for Baylor since 1957 that rule told us Gino gets hit as he throws still got it off the trusted editor Matt rule told us since he was in high school he's always wanted to come to the Sugar Bowl he had never been here before this week he grew up in New York City but moved to State College Pennsylvania when he was in high school became a big Penn State fan and watched Penn State when one of the big games in school history is January 1st of 1983 here in the Sugar Bowl against Georgia you have on a certain quarterback for a long pass to great Garrett in his - for Vince Dooley to use absolutely the legendary coach before the game he said I still remember you that kid's name again Garrity I said yeah Gregg Garrett said he was a walk-on one night said yeah he was not ruling on to play at Penn State as a walk-on for Joe Paterno xenos throw incomplete looking for Jarrett Atkinson [Music] third down and ten you said the courser team won the national champ- in that victory over Georgia there's academic all-american that sugar bowl that was the highlight of your life winning the national championship here for playing winning a championship and all the work you put into it this will have another national championship decided in this same building on January 13th it's the ultimate you know for a college football players the highest achievement as a team player that I ever was a part of them now very very special [Music] okay boy the lake herring has really dialed up the pressure he has here in the second half Nolan Smith Sandwell time blitzes and he's one of those guys a little you know as he has developed he's going to be an NFL guy you know I mean they talked about Tyler Clark being the most right now NFL guy herring is a guy who is developing into that he's got the kind of body and quickness than NFL teams like Zito and fourth and ten intercepted picked off by Richard lock out his second of the night Kirby Smart Jonah get down there if I say get down he said I'm a run over and see see my peeps instead [Applause] very smart wanted to celebrate relevant once he went leaping over the bench the count was cut out a raise for the coach I'd say what watching Dan laning and Kirby smart every single defensive play how hard they coach every play they are coaching and instructing and giving hand signals and now they get the fruits of victory at the end with that interception [Music] sure Kirby has to be thrilled to me again he was so everybody was embarrassed last year the way they played or did not play and that doesn't take anything away from Texas the Texas played a really nice ballgame but Georgia was an outstanding football team a year ago and did not come here ready to play tonight they came here ready to play with whatever guys they had what other guys made the trip these guys came ready to play led by Jake Fromm and it was an impressive performance well you know because we've been around it you understand it now because of what the history of Georgia but also the recent history of Kirby their 13 win two years ago 11 last year maybe 12 this year it's almost as if you don't make the playoff and perhaps you can win the national championship if it's not good enough for a lot of fun and obviously that's exceptionally hard to do but this probably ensures them the top 4 absolutely finish in the final poll on the other thing it does a win here allows this senior class to tie for the most wins in Georgia history with 44 and it also means Georgia under kirby is now with the 84 against top 10 opponents I mean that's you know winning a lot of big games against quality opponents he has done a marvelous job in his time at Georgia and they're not going anywhere that they're built to last by the way that they're recruiting braum take city they get pitch smart with the bucket and they do match the group from 2005 as the winningest senior class in Georgia is through that bunch meant 44 and 9 this group of finished 44 and 12 obviously they played more games these days with the conference championship game and the playoff congratulations to the Georgia Bulldogs winners of the Allstate Sugar Bowl 2614 volley I've never had this happen in my whole career coaching we didn't have one guy late to a meal we didn't have one guy late to a bus we didn't have one guy late to anything and I knew then I knew right then these kids want to play this game you guys had a terrific defensive performance tell me about that last pick rich in the county jump over the bench you're trying to tell him to get down he had other ideas he did a great job we knew where 25 was in he was a big gas route guy down in the middle and we had one of our coaches actually calling it out for him saying 25 down the middle cuz we were in split safety and Richard did a great job he in it and getting a pick a very special hug at the end of this game for DeAndre swift I saw that moment on the sideline what has he meant to you in this program he's mean everything he's a warrior he's a competitor he wanted to come on this trip he wanted to play in this game he wanted to be here for his teammates he want to be here with him and he meant so much to him I mean the impact he makes without the ball in his hand is immeasurable and that's what he did great job we saw that tonight and also the future is bright for this program your freshman George Pickens with a new record tying a record in a bowl game for Georgia Bulldog how do you see the future and his bright future well Georgia has got a lot of opportunities in front of him he's a really good football player and we're awful proud of George and he I tell you what I've never been around a kid that loves practice more than George does practice that's right practice thank you thanks ollie appreciate Jake from standing by here and Jake one of the best quarterbacks how are you doing great one of the best quarterbacks to play here at Georgia and put a uniform on how I'm proud were you tonight if the way you were able to connect and the defense was able to move the football this is Austin Prince got the opportunity to come out here and play I think our guys responded well there was no doubt you know from our guys who wanted to play our guys showed up they played their hearts out and to come out here to play four quarters come on here with the victories of blessing I know nobody will give them the game ball but I really believe your offensive line this remade offensive line had your back how did they show up cage amore warned those guys they got put in the big role they stepped up they played great so thankful for those guys and their hard work so it off the paint off I know that you have a different decision to make in your future but how does it help for you to see the bright future of some of these young receivers around you though absolutely these guys are stepping up they're making plays and the best of the head for them no doubt if this is your last game as a Georgia Bulldog what do you want people to remember about Jake from yeah I want to represent Christ the best I can and I hope I can reach and influence as many people as possible I'm thankful to play here this university is amazing and to play here every single game every single moments been a blessing I'm so thankful I'm gonna play here thank you so much shake there's this final game and it is there for Charlie Warner the tight end giving a pat on the top of the head from Kirby smart class act Jake from absolutely the cheer for guys like that stay tuned for the Ford postgame after the game [Music] Georgia wins 26 to 14 stay tuned for SportsCenter in the for postgame trophy ceremony Thank You boys got that belt with you happy new year fantastic Rosebowl highlights on the way a message to college football fans of the big 10 in the SEC you'll you'll not you'll not take it well I doubt and we remember David Stern one of the most influential commissioners in our lifetime the game you just watch Matt rule and Baylor take it on Georgia the Allstate Sugar Bowl great city of New Orleans early on Dondre swift you heard Kirby talk with such passionate about him Little flea-flicker to George Pickens that is a superstar in the making their next star wide receiver don't believe me just watch go up and get it Pickens again first down keep throwing it to him from what a pass play the fight song wait a minute let me get a little early Cuyler one and hold on let's do it again well actually let's give Bayliss and love here pass gets picked off charlie brewer hits RJ steed in the head dog defense silver britches getting after it Baylor came in averaging about 450 and 35 a game and they were held in check that Georgia defense was doing its thing the coach rules expression at the half tells a story at under a hundred yards in the half they trailed 19 to nothing third quarter Baylor got aggressive here they were within twelve went court on fourth and four and Brewers sacked by Aziz ogle re Georgia takes over ensuing drive lining up to kick a field goal and dick camarda getting tricky runs for the first down and then Zeus it's a mere white mmm Georgia go up twenty six seven they'd win it I scored 26 to 14 we'll get you right back out to New Orleans in the dome the trophy ceremony Georgia wins the sugar the board post game is brought to you by the Ford f-150 Built Ford Tough [Music] welcome to the Ford postgame from the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans Georgia the winner 26 to 14 over Baylor has to be a very satisfying win from Kirby smart after what happened here last year he said more than the result I care about how well we play well we play hard when we hit hard we play with folk as they did and the coach understandably very happy let's go down to the podium now and here's Holly Rowe well thank you so much and welcome to our Allstate Sugar Bowl trophy presentation here to join us tonight we are that you have built here to see champions of this Sugar Bowl in this moment how are you able to get this done with your team tonight well we got a great group of seniors there's only like five or six of them here on the trip and this group has been committed since the day we announced we were playing this bowl game they did a tremendous job every one of them helped lead our team our coaches and this staff all the questions and all the stuff you got to answer these kids never doubted for one second and we love to coach these guys I think they proved that they were ready for their opportunity you preached all week that we're worried about the guys who are here how did they rise up and snatch the opportunity at hand real simple what we do guys we out hit and we have hustled the opponent and when you do that the rest of it takes care of itself okay now you guys have such great momentum moving into this offseason with such a young team such a great recruiting class number four in the country how do you build on this momentum well we continue to develop a culture of discipline and toughness when you have that within your program you've always got a chance the leadership group on this team and again I can't say enough about there's five or six seniors out there that really push this group to compete and play and they did a great job bouncing back from last year's shoe the ball a lot of guys have a final decision to make one of those is Jake Brom if this is his final game for you how do you describe the impact he's had on your team in your program he's meant so much more than one game in this program you can't define a guy like from or Swift or any of these guys Andrew Thomas and I listen to one game so what they've been what they have done for this program is incredible and it'll be measured for a long time thank you so much Kirby smart and to prevent our most outstanding player mr. Kahn the president of the executive committee for the Allstate Sugar Bowl and the winner is with 12 catches 175 yards your most outstanding player is George Pickens [Applause] George he tied a Georgia record for 12 receptions being the Sun has ever had in a bowl game playing for Georgia all these years how are you able to be so effective 11 of those coming in the first half first I wanted to get credit of God but office my offensive line is amazing my quarterback is amazing I love this team the defense that's how I was able to get to what I was able to get to because the defense in the office stepped up big time I know your offenses had criticism at times this year including the wide receiving crew how important was it for you guys to show up and show out tonight I mean it was very important I mean we come in as a team collective still at when the team does good everybody does good so we all come in together and just credit to everybody out there by the way all these got quit if you put the camera all these guys I love them to death put the camera on all these guys they're giving you a little hand signal what is this they're doing what is this what is this oh they're trying to say to you that's like that's like a model we got in the locker room everybody knows [Music] yeah okay the future is bright for you guys how do you grab this moment in time and this productivity and parlayed it into next season just keep working chop wood that's what Dan still didn't us from the beginning of the season so we're just gonna chop wood this next season and chop wood forever you know his name now a freshman George Pickens is your most outstanding player of the Sugar Bowl congratulations Kirby smart congratulations University of Georgia and thank you for everyone who came for our 2020 Sugar Bowl it has been unbelievable the ugly Sugar Bowl thanks you for coming congratulations all right Holly thank you very much really a team win tonight Todd for Georgia yeah absolutely but came to watch fun game to see Jake Brom have fun playing football again we'll have more from the Orleans in a moment [Music] the board post game is brought to you by the all-new Ford Explorer Phil Ford proud [Music]
