if you're new to VR or to the quest 3 then this video will show you some hidden features and settings that you may have missed as well as tips for Comfort extending battery life and choosing games to get the best fit with the stock strap put the headset on your eyes first and then take the strap over the back of your head this will help you avoid scraping the lenses across the top of your hair which will leave marks all over the lenses to avoid your head aching adjust the strap so that it's stable enough but not too tight adjust the back strap first and then the top strap and then adjust the tilt of the headset at the front on the arms and then finally adjust the headset depth and the headset depth is adjusted with these small plastic buttons on the inside of the facial interface and it's actually a really poor design and a bit tricky to adjust you want your eyes as close as possible to the lenses without being uncomfortable and this will get the best field of view so when you adjust these don't squeeze this bit of the headset tightly together because otherwise the facial in face won't be able to move up and down you have to gently push your finger on the button on the inside and then slide your thumb on the outside of the interface and make sure to adjust both sides the same the stock strap in my opinion pretty much sucks and I think you should get a better strap as soon as you can it'll make all the difference to your comfort and enjoyment it means you'll be able to keep your headset on longer but for maximum Comfort on your eyes it's also important to set your ipd correctly and this is the distance between your lenses so the distance between your eyes and as you move the dial on the screen in the headset it will tell you what it's set to and this range is between 53 and 75 mm I use the free IM measure app which measures your ipd and then you can just dial it in and this is really handy if you're swapping the headset between people cuz you just need to remember your ipd and then when it's your turn dial it in again and you're good to go you can turn your controller straps into knuckle straps like this by looping them over your controller so take the loop over the top of the the controller and tighten it above the grip button and this makes them easier to take on and off but still gives you some safety and also means you can let go of them and they don't drop it's not perfect but do give it a try but most importantly do make sure that you use your hand straps I lost count of the number of times I dropped my Quest 2 controllers because I put them down on a virtual table The Meta button on the right controller has a number of uses it can be used at any time to quit a game and it can also be used to reenter the game so if you move your position and the game is no longer in front of you then by pressing and holding it down everything will shift in front of you again but if you use the meta button along with the trigger button at the front you can also take a photo so hold down the meta button and then quick press on the trigger hold down the trigger a little longer then this will start recording a video but by default these videos record in a square 4x3 format so to change that click on the settings Cog here and then select system go to camera and then change the aspect ratio here to landscape 1920 x 1080 and increase the bit rate to 20 for better image quality also in the system menu here you can go to software update sometimes when there's an update to the headset it doesn't always install automatically and if you go here you can select a manual update when there's one available staying in the menu and now looking at the option of physical space this is where you can change how your guardian boundary looks and responds when you get close to it you can change your boundary color you can select glanceable boundary so this is where you look down and your boundary will appear and also you can go into advanced mode and change various different Guardian sensitivity features and when you create your boundary if you have a wall with no furniture on it then I suggest when you set your boundary that you bring it in at least one foot and this will just protect yourself from punching walls and yes I'm talking from experience and I did that the first time I played super hot and super hot has an excellent free playable demo and these free demos is one of the ways that you can make sure that you don't waste money on any games there are lots of long playable demos that you can download and you can play them over and over again as there are no time restrictions and you also have Tim restricted demos which you'll see listed as free trials and for these games you can play for 30 minutes for free and after that time you'll know whether you want to buy or not so go to the game store and scroll down to try before you buy and there are also a ton of free games that you can download and try from the APPL and there are a lot of these games that are either being tested they're in development I'll come back to applab in 2 or 3 seconds but this is a good time to mention the web browser so click on the multis Square icon and select browser and you can then type in any web address like you would with any web browser so for side quest go to sidequestvr.com and then select applab and then once you found a game you like you can then search for it in the meta app or in in the store on the headset and then just download it as normal if you want to pin your browser shortcut to your shortcut menu down the bottom here then select the three dots at the top of the icon and then select pin to Universal menu and you can do that with any one of these apps or games in this section but if you do end up buying a game that you couldn't trial and then you don't like it because it makes you sick or for any other reason then don't worry because meta have a no quibble refund policy if you haven't played the game for more than 2 hours hours or owned it for more than 14 days then you can process this refund in The Meta app but before you buy any game there are Comfort ratings that you can refer to so that you don't buy a game that's out of your comfort zone every game on The Meta store has one of three Comfort ratings comfortable moderate and intense and you can find this under more info when you're looking for a game a quick bonus tip here when you're downloading multiple games if you hover over the top of the game logo while it's downloading you can then select prioritize and this will jump that game to the top of the queue and download that game first and if you want to play mixed reality games then I highly recommend mapping out your space in more detail and this will give you a better mixed reality experience so go to settings and physical space and space setup and then select setup you can then scan your room and make adjustments to walls and add Furniture when you double tap on the side of your headset you can switch between the real world and your virtual world but there is an easy and alternative way of activating pass through and that's by selecting this icon on the menu shortcut bar and you can select a different virtual environment by selecting settings and then personalization and then install one of the many virtual environments available and if you want to chill in your virtual environment without seeing the menu screen then simply press the meta button and it will disappear but you may be using the menu and you want to perform multiple activities at once and you can do that by opening multiple screens so press press and hold the trigger and point at the top of the open menu window now drag it to the left or the right and now open up a new window say browser for example now drag that to the opposite direction to the last screen and now open up say people and you'll have three different screens open all at the same time and you can grab hold of all of these at the same time by holding down the trigger and selecting the glowing outline around all the screens you can then move the menu in any direction by moving the controll including moving it further away or closer and if you want to Super siize this menu screen then select quick settings and then select switch View and to move this screen around you need to select and hold the trigger on the white bar at the bottom here but of course you don't have to use your controllers you can simply use your hands it did Flash up and gave you the option of automatically switching to your hands when you put your controllers down and you probably selected yes but you may have missed it if you didn't select yes you can turn it on in the settings menu under movement tracking and then select auto switch from controllers to hands and to use this you simply put your controllers down and then wave your hands around and very quickly the headset detects that you want to use your hands and not your controllers and you now move the poter by moving your hand and to select something you just tap your fingers together to press and hold on to something either to scroll through apps and games or to move menu screens around then you just press and hold your thumb and finger together if you want your family and friends to watch what you're doing in the quest 3 you can cast your gaml to a TV and you can do this using a Google chomecast adapter and I found that these are the best and most reliable way of casting so select the camera icon on the shortcuts menu and then select cast and you'll see a list of all the devices you can cast to you can also cast to your phone and this is really useful for you to use if one of your friends comes around and they're using the headset for the first time using your phone you can take control over certain parts of the headset you can turn the pass through on and off you can reenter them in their play space and you can also select the first steps tutorial so it just gives them less to think about so in the app select menu devices Quest 3 cast and then select start casting to extend the battery life on the quest 3 you can use one of these capsu power Banks I've got a few of these and I've used them for a couple of years with my Quest 2 they're super lightweight they give you about an extra hour gaml and they're way way cheaper than say the elite battery strap and they connect to the quest 3 simply by plugging them into the USBC socket and it literally feels like it makes no difference to the weight of the headset so you won't even notice it but take note that meta do not recommend using any power Banks other than obviously their Elite battery strap when you finish using your headset you must avoid putting it down on a window seal or anywhere in direct sunlight because this could destroy your headset but of course these are just quick tips and if you want a complete beginner's guide then you want to watch this video next my name's Rich thanks for watching and I'll see you over there
