20 Dark Gravity Falls Secrets Disney Tried To Hide

[Music] 2012 was the year we were given the show gravity falls and in our opinion since then the world has been a better place because of it created by Alex Hirsch and produced by Disney television animation the series took us on a journey exploring a strange town alongside twin siblings Mabel and dipper pines one of the greatest elements of gravity falls is that it encourages viewers to question all of the strange goings-on in the seemingly quaint town the creators of the show Lea little Clues scattered throughout episodes for us to connect the dots today we'll be looking at 20 dark secrets concerning the show that Disney tried to hide the first thing we'll be looking at is the opening credits there is a lot to unpack here as we see so many images flashing and it is a general onslaught of information at the end of the credits a brief whispered message can be heard saying I hear while that in itself is creepy the plot thickens turbofans decided to play it backwards and discovered that says three letters back a meaningless phrase unless you happen to be familiar with the cryptographic device known as the Caesar cipher ring any bells if now don't worry we've never heard of it either the Caesar cipher can decode alphabetic messages by shifting each letter by three characters using this whispered clue made it easier to solve the end credits cryptograms including messages like stan is not what he seems what a perfect hidden foreshadowing moment gravity falls has a very distinct visual style everyone's outfits are always on point and as a whole it has a cohesive memorable vibe well it definitely has its own thing going on the creators actually were inspired by a myriad of sources and a show is once you see them make the connection Alex Hirsch gives a nod to one particular show that chances are their young audience hasn't seen Twin Peaks while the two shows are similar and that they're set and sleepy but mysterious towns Twin Peaks is admittedly quite a bit darker first explained that he's a big fan of David Lynch the creator of Twin Peaks and wanted to reference it in his show without being obvious he said that he didn't expect the audience to see what he was doing but we saw it from a mile away compare the club and gravity falls to the Red Room and Twin Peaks his Black Lodge now you get it Twin Peaks isn't the only show that gets an on-screen shout out for your Rick and Morty fans out there you've likely already seen the connection for instance and the Rick and Morty episode closer Encounters of the wreck mind RIT opens up multiple portals to other dimensions and above with a question mark on it a pen and a notepad fly out of one of the portals in the episode Society of the blind eye in gravity falls the episode ends with Stan losing these three exact items as they're sucked into a portal in addition and Rick and Morty when Beth and Jerry go to counseling you can see a bill cipher on the monitor well it may be fun to cook up many lavish theories about why the two shows are cross pollinating in actuality the creator of Rick and Morty Justin roiland and hers are just pals in real life and wanted to mess with people throughout the series there are tiny Clues scattered in the episodes that it's almost worth watching the entire series twice so you can have the satisfaction of picking up on the deliberate foreshadowing in the second episode The Legend of the gobblewonker we found a small hidden clue that we didn't spot upon first watching for a refresher Stan takes Mabel and dipper into an old sketchy fishing boat named Stan award in season 2 there is an episode called tale of two Stan's where a difference a noir appears in the origin episode of Stanford and Stanley we see the twins giving an old abandoned boat a makeover and giving it the same name so because Stan never got to go on a fishing trip with his brother it makes sense that in season one he is so keen to go on an adventure with the kids in the episode Time Traveller's Pig we are graced with the introduction to blendin blandin this time traveler from 207 thousand twelve was sent to gravity falls to remove multiple time anomalies left behind by the twins this timid man tries to hide his identity but in doing so looks all the more suspicious when he becomes nervous he breaks into a bad case of the sweat and hey it's not as if we don't relate as we know he breaks the time-travelling code of contract and is eventually arrested but you might not have noticed is that blendin can be found throughout the series even before this introduction and the episode headhunters he's a low-key part of the audience and in the very first episode he's seen hiding in the bushes also you can see the words blendin was here on the wall in tale of two Stan's he's all over while we now know about the cryptogram that appears in the opening credits there is another moment that we would like to discuss that happens in the beginning there is a brief moment when the zodiac flashes on screen and vanishes within seconds fans have made the connections to the marks on the circle to the characters in the show off to the symbols correspond with what the characters wear the question mark is Zeus who sports the question mark shirt the pine tree is the pine twins and the shooting star is Mabel like one of her many sweaters there have been debates online about the other ones but feel free to weigh in with matching the rest ultimately this zodiac was trying to show us that the characters are all bonded together the whole connection was confirmed during the series finale with the zodiac and symbols were used to help defeat bill cipher in the episode scary-oke we meet agent powers of agent trigger these do sharp dressing US government officials come to gravity falls to investigate the mysteries going on in the spooky town whilst on their visit Asian powers tells dipper about their investigation of a paranormal case that he believes is linked to gravity falls are you kidding me I'm investigating the exact same thing powers gives dipper a business card which Stan confiscates and his action only fuels their fire they're kind of like men in black but without the raw power that has Will Smith like blendin they are extremely sneaky and we can see them hidden in the background throughout the show in Society of the blind eye there behind the car and sock opera there behind the play bills and in Susan the real girl there in the mall did we miss any honestly it's hard to keep up you may have noticed the number 618 comes up very often in the show if you recall Stan's prison number is Oh six one eight zero zero and the mystery shack is located on 618 gofer Road some superfans even caught that a part of the journal 3 is dated June 18th 618 so it's not just a coincidence and the fun doesn't stop there during mcgucket's conspiracy corner marathon the old man talks about how the number has been haunting his dreams and that it comes from a creature from another dimension well it may just seem like a random number it actually has a real-life reference as it turns out these numbers are significant because they are the birth date of creator Alex Hirsch and his real-life twin sister he chose to keep it as a theme because the show was inspired by summers spent with his sister in their great odd there has been some controversy that has developed because of the episode love God if you can remember the love God himself is a cherub with the ability to make people fall in love with the help of some potions because the Internet has taken over his career he is also a musician on the side apparently the love God was originally supposed to wear the LGBTQ symbol around his neck but the editors changed it to be a male/female symbol instead in addition they also changed the gender of the person that the old woman was supposed to be matched with the illustrator posted some drawings on tumblr of the woman with another woman but in the episode we saw her flame was a man we're disappointed that Disney made the last-minute change as the show was proved to be progressive but I guess they didn't quite commit with this episode for those of you who follow Alex Hirsch on Twitter number one well done because honestly it's a laugh and a half and we recommend it as a valid source of entertainment and number two you might have caught his tweet saying always wanted to do an episode where grunkle Stan's started his own religion called Stan ontology while that in itself is enough to send a spiraling he went on to say that his holy book would be a 300 page manual on bribery called the Bible if you check the threads attached to this post you can seen her standing with an ex Scientologist who linked his concept to Scientology after that in January 2015 Hearst tweeted grunkle Stan created Scientology on a drunken dare in 1962 he gets paid $48 everytime Tom Cruise speaks publicly hashtag Scientology fact I don't know about you but we love this whole angle and are pretty miffed this episode never came to be when the show ended our hearts broke and we all hope the adventure would continue as far as we know it wasn't cancelled as Disney released a statement saying that they were disappointed it was finished so it seemed everything was going according to plan but on Twitter Hirsch that hinted that there could be a possible season 3 and he said that we would see the characters again since then nothing has happened and were scratching our heads why would he tease us if he had no plan to release anything why would he do that to us the whole intention was to showcase a single summer in gravity falls but two more seasons could focus on another summer with our characters unfortunately any plans would probably be years away considering Alex Hirsch is working on some type of new Netflix show that we cannot wait to binge in the future let's talk about bill cipher as you probably noticed he's not just your average triangle he just so happens to look at awful lot like the Illuminati symbol something that's referenced throughout the show for those of you who don't know the Illuminati is a supposed powerful organization that the Guardian says secretly controls the entire modern world probably wearing cloaks while cypher looking like this symbol may just be a coincidence we dug a little deeper to see what dirt we could get on this it turns out Hearst and the official Illuminati Twitter account got to chatting online and the organization thanked him for creating the show he replied that he would like an actual seat at the Illuminati table was this all jokes or do you think he's actually a part of the organisation that supposedly controls world affairs okay if this one isn't a dark secret but it is a hidden message and the 19th episode of the first season dreamscaperers dipper Mabel and Stan are in the middle of making fun of Gideon's commercial when they hear him attempting to break into Stan's safe he's caught in the act then after fleeing the scene says that it's time to unleash the dream demon that has bill cipher while performing a ritual to summon the cipher he falls to his knees and his eyes glow blue on top of that he mutters something that we can't make out it's all very creepy and unsettling and we're left wondering what he's saying well it turns out it's not as Airy as we thought when played backwards fans have discovered that he's simply saying backwards message over and over very funny gravity falls well played in the very last episode of gravity falls we finally got to see what Stan was up to behind the vending machine to discover the interdimensional portal also known as the universal portal and it is mind-blowing we learned that originally the machine was built to benefit all mankind until it went drastically wrong in Journal three dipper discovers that it is some kind of weapon that could be extremely dangerous if it got into the wrong hands as we saw during the initial test run makeup kid almost got stucked in we also learns Vegeta starting the machine as a complex algorithm that can only be completed by obtaining all three journals if you look closely a journal free you can see a cryptogram written when decoded the words state that it is a portal to infinite new worlds what a perfect ending have you ever noticed how many disturbing scenes there are in gravity falls season two is even worse than season 1 in Northwest mystery mansion the mounted animals start bleeding out of their eyes in the mouth weirdmageddon is filled with monsters and the shapeshifter is what nightmares are made of on top of that lest we forget the existence of Darlene the spider person disguised as a woman who watches over the corpses of her fallen victims the list goes on and on it's surprising that some of the content got greenlit because despite having diverse viewership technically this is a kid show there's a theory out there that grunkle Stan has a dark secret that nobody knows while we all know he's a generally weird dude what with his obsession with the apocalypse involve apparently there is more to it than that fans suggest that he is totally controlled by bill cipher this is believable because they already are so similar feeling cynical let's lay it all out they dress well are both showman and have a similar way of speaking they also straight-up repeat each other's lines interest trapped Stan says eeny meeny miny you and in sock opera bill says the same thing when choosing dipper as a puppet in addition they both use the nicknames sixer also in season 2 episode 18 bill mimics Stan exactly in the alternate opening coincidence where's the fun in that well this next fact may not be dark it definitely isn't common knowledge did you know that a number of the characters are based off of people and Alex Hirsch his life service is based off of a college friend of Alex's named of Jesus sham bro a man whose age Alex didn't know until he revealed he was bald which Alex admitted traumatized him on top of that Mabel was based off of Alex's real-life twin sister Ariel he wanted her to be goofy is nuts and full of love and it definitely came across even Mabel's outfits were inspired by his sister in particular the lime-green troll doll sweater apparently she was quite the eccentric dresser and used to wear copious amounts of tacky child netware he wanted her to be constantly trying new looks and thought it would be funny if she wore something different every week perhaps the darkest secret that Disney is not proud of is that louis c.k was originally connected to the show he was originally cast as the horrifying sweaty one-armed monstrosity and even recorded the lines but was rightfully dismissed from the role after his admission of inappropriate misconduct instead of finding another big name to fill his shoes the role was taken over by Alex Hirsch and his character appeared in weirdmageddon part 1 and 3 while you may think that's bad and caused a lot of headaches for the show the film company illumination had it a whole lot worse CK was meant to continue voicing max in the secret life of pets - but was let go and the company had to scramble to find a new lead luckily patton oswalt to save the day let's take a look at dipper pines he's quick-witted and curious young boy who we loved dearly being the eldest sibling born a whopping five minutes before Mabel he sees himself as being in charge he wants to leave adolescence behind him and thirsty for adventure one of his best qualities is having incredible attention to detail and one of his worst is clicking his patent incessantly when in deep thought this character is perfect but he would be nothing without his distinctive voice lent by Jason Ritter Ritter was cast as dipper and filmed the pilot for gravity falls but originally had to turn down working on it because he had committed himself to another show lucky for us that show got canceled and he was able to resume his rightful place as one half of the pine twins after the show ended first left the fans with one more mega mystery to stall they challenged the audience of gravity falls to a scavenger hunt and gave an image of a statue of bill cipher as a leading clue finally the statue was located in a wooded area and how fans did it we have no clue the amount of digging they had to do to locate this place is mind-boggling Jason Ritter make a difference tweeted that at the foot of the statue was a treasure chest full of plastic jewels and coins so the lucky winners got rewarded for their sleuthing on top of that Hirst left a personal note thanking his fans for the loyalty well that's all folks thanks
