[Music] atrio is a survival meets automation game about capturing creatures that are trying to kill you and using them in your assembly lines i've already covered the first year of development but to recap we designed a main character some prototypes and a downtown and today i'm going to show you the three stunning biomes we created and the three major features we added in year two starting with biome one the forest we decided our main base is gonna start in a forest and this is what we had at the end of year one not exactly a forest but a little work we really spruced it up check it out [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] but wait something's missing something really important that's right grass i don't know what you're expecting but i need to talk about grass because we brought this awesome shader that lets you control the grass way you can change the sway amount from a cool tropical breeze to an acid trip you could change the speed from a slow to a fast acid trip and more importantly you can change the shape of the wind from a cool tropical breeze to a penis back to our forest you can really see the difference without grass and with grass and now we need to give it some atmosphere let's turn off the lights but to really add to the mood we had eyes lots of eyes the eyes disappear when your lights grow but if you venture out into the dark not only do they follow you but they'll also attack you anyway the eyes can be kept at bay with torches but they're only temporary as indicated by the ring on the ground which eventually runs out and when they run out you'll die so we added light bulbs we stole this idea from astroneer where you can infinitely tether them and it looks a little something like this so here it is our starting forest and you can see just how much it's changed over the last year the next thing we did this year and my personal favorite was add the blood lake we needed something to contrast the park and went for something blood red there's a lot of gorgeous detail that went into this and all the paths look underwater but the real magic happens when the player runs across the water look at those ripples they just i don't know they bump up this environment one full notch when it's not busy being broken we'll fix it in year three at this point our steam page store goes up and it turns out that steam won't surface your game on the up-and-coming list if you don't get ten thousand wish lists we are at 5.3 k so go wish list the game and if you're still unconvinced i've created a brand new ad just for this vlog to show off our second explorable biome the downtown area [Music] so and to finish off the downtown we add our mascot the punk monk i don't want to spoil anything but he's instrumental to the story of our game and this original version just didn't hit the mark so i replaced him now take a look at our downtown and tell me you don't want to explore the mysteries it holds [Music] mm-hmm with the downtown done our biomes were complete which meant we could work on our debut teaser trailer the trailer was a ton of work but you can see the improvement between our first pass and our final product and with the art set of things done we were ready to work on our first feature the automation in atrio the collection of resources and creatures can be automated your goal is to build a huge assembly line to do the work on your behalf and it starts out pretty janky but over time we had a lot of features and visual upgrades like springboards conveyor belts and or harvesters look at them go look at them go oh no no no no [Music] so here we are in year two and it's time to work on the placement animation and all we need to do is add the five steps to make your video game feel awesome one update the visuals two give it some speed three add some particles four chain them together and five go nuts awesome all right let's try that again [Music] [Applause] woman [Music] did it again it's another penis we also added light detection so the automation system automatically powers on when there's light so you're going to have to manage your light while you build [Music] now the main hook of the game is that you can capture creatures and add them to your assembly line and at the end of year one they were not even close sir are you okay sir what so we introduce our first creature the pushback half machine half organic with a piston on its head that pushes back but when we capture it every third item that passes by gets moved into the next assembly line look at them go [Music] we also gave our cute little mini deer the ability to poop if you infuse their favorite food with woozy bulbs you can knock them out and capture them we didn't finish him this year and unfortunately we also didn't finish the battery boy a mobile power source you can plug into lamps for temporary power visually they look stunning but again unfinished because we spent a ton of time on the heart box the main power source in the world and the goal is to keep it fueled when you drop in the fuel the light radius grows and the building morphs growing more grotesque and forming the shape of a heart for atria you also have to get the next upgrade item in a certain amount of time or you lose and i gotta say we really nailed it people loved it i hate this okay okay 16 minutes plenty of time okay five minutes a minute not gonna make it we also have an amazing soundtrack for the game including the song playing right now and many of our sounds have customizable pieces that we can layer in and out during the game we can customize so much of the soundtrack based on what's happening in the game so if we want it to be moody or ramping up in intensity we just turn on layers check it out [Music] oh you just wanted to hear the bass drop well you'll have to wish this the game to hear the rest of the song nah i'm just playing i am that much of a dick all right here we go [Music] anyway moving on i struggled with ui like seriously i redesigned it so many times but one of the cool ui features that we added was the item tracker i hate it when you're playing a game and forget what crafting materials you need so that just takes care of that just one click and pal tracked [Music] that my friends is our progress from year one to year two new forest new downtown juicy automation a brand new punk monk and sexy water so what's in store for year three well i have a secret last week we wrapped up our third year of development oh but stephen this is your second yeah i know i know i know we're a full year behind of the devlogs okay i'm just slow at making these but i can say year three is nuts so you'll have to wait and see thanks for watching and we'll see you in year three
