from Amon Carter Stadium in Fort Worth Texas it's the 16th ranked Aggies of Texas a.m. as they take on Jim whackers Horned Frogs from Texas Christian now coming in you're talking about the number one offense in the Southwest Conference in Texas dition going up Dave against the number one defense in the conference absolutely and this is an important game a lot of people have said this game doesn't have a lot of significance but no one specially a.m. wants to go into that next game with a with a losing momentum they want to win this game they want to keep it going and Jim whacker he wants to get something going on his team have a positive an influence on this team and of course on the other sideline is jackie sherrill who stunned everybody last night by saying the absence of Tony Jeffery is an advocate deal well I think what he was trying to do in in honesty is to try to downplay the loss because there's a lot of psychological warfare that can take place in a game like this how will TCU react to the loss of Jeffery will they fold their tent and go home or will they play like champions I remember several years ago as we look at the game conditions the Arkansas story in the Orange Bowl today Phil a Newman let's it's a lot Harris off his fingertips out of the end zone and the Aggies will begin from their own 20-yard line [Applause] break stuff we'll quarterback the Aggies and what a job he did a week ago at College Station against the Razorbacks of Arkansas [Applause] from their own 20-yard line the Aggie offense keep Woodside he's the man we'll see an awful lot of today's the halfback he wears number 33 the offensive line Louis cheek Richmond web anchor the left side you'll recall earlier this year bluest sheet one of our Raycom offensive players of the first down this is the first play from scrimmage stunts will roll light looking downfield throws the hands of Keith Woodside he leads this team in catches with 24 Holanda Newton good coverage and the Horned Frogs secondary and you talk about a defense that has played well this year you there last two ballgames they have lost by a total of four points the defense has played well absolutely anything anything really just a one touchdown difference with a myth of the Cotton Bowl opportunity craft for TCU [Applause] second down and ten stunt with a through the left side it's the full-back Matt girly David Spradlin the right defensive end with seven and a half sacks on the year knocks purely off his feet and Phil there's what the Aggies must do they've got to dominate defensively they have really got an excellent defense they've got to control the line of scrimmage that's the up front seven people and they've got a run effectively their game is running today they like to control the ball have those 1112 Drive plays drives I should say that's the way they win football games and that's what they've done so successfully this year TCU three defense in motion its area is to Kerley who is he the frogs hold here it'll be fourth panel on for the eggies until I go back to that that statement by jackie sherrill it's no big thing he was trying to downplay it because he knew his team would react to it everybody reacted to it we reacted to it Shawn Wilson kicking into a stiff stiff wind and that's the effect of it it takes an A&M bounce across the 50-yard line it will be down at the 47 [Applause] offensively the Horned Frogs will go with quarterback David Roscoe it is a talented offense filling in of course for Johnny Geoffrey would be number 22 Bobby Davis will be at left half the offensive line behind jet engine dark-haired and Davis the setbacks vesko tries to get around the right is knocked off his feet there by Dana batiste now we talked a moment ago about the eggy's defense it is a tough the Southwest Conference and it's guys like these three brooms Sammy O'Brien and Terry price the linebacking core John Roper and Aaron Wallis two outstanding outside linebackers and an offensive backfield with a very very Scott fit in our ski now in the backfield the cricket field strike down to the 46 check whoops fun to stop and fill there are certain things that the TCU frogs must do to win this game also they've got to overcome a great loss of Tony Jeffery that's both psychologically and the physical loss of him they've got to convert scoring opportunities when they get the chance and of course they've got to play solid up front defense with those fronts for linemen and linebackers to try and stop that great running game of Texas A&M pull back stuck bit crusty he's close to first down yardage the nose tackle Sammy Oh Vlad with help from Dana bits beasts I think they're gonna have to bring out the change and take a look at this one I don't know they may just say it's fourth down then the lines are straight on a field maybe they are going to measure it yeah sure coach has the opportunity to say yea or nay I want to measure it and I think Jim whacker said let's just take a peek and see how close we are they may go for it in this situation TCU realizes that they're going up against a great a.m. team they've got to score short by a foot without Tony Jeffery you wonder if perhaps Jim whacker might say let's throw caution to the wind and go for it now look right here you'll see the great pursuit that A&M has that's what they do so well that's Dana perky stin there he's not and I think rappers decide to go [Applause] talk about this we're going to get a look at what emotion can do for a ballclub right here fourth down a foot for the prize [Applause] the ball is fumbled and it is kept pouring turmeric covers tiny d'Arthur simply never was able to grab the football firmly you'll see it on the replay it's number 31 Darth if he never gets the handle look right there now he reaches for it gets his legs cut out there's the ball great for soup thereby number ten that's Kip corrington recovering that ball the Aggies will take possession with 11:58 remaining in the opening period no score from Amon garbage Stadium in Fort Worth [Music] [Music] what a trip to Honolulu hula Boulud stay at the beautiful Ala Moana Hotel enter the coca-cola Southwest Conference super fan sweepstakes at your neighborhood Kroger store are participating supermarket it's designed to go from zero to 60 in six seconds and designed to reach maximum power at 4,000 rpm but a tiny speck of dirt in the intake system can reduce these numbers dramatically [Music] is designed to clean entire intake systems no other premium cleans better gulps super unleaded [Music] following the fumble by the Horned Frogs the Aggies have the football at their own 41 yard line they'll come out of the I formation Woodside and Gurley the setbacks with the correction Darren Lewis [Applause] Louis the freshman from Carter High School in Dallas is knocked off his feet by Floyd Terrell bill that's how they attack look at the dominance on the ground by these teams 227 yards 300 yards they just come out and they just say hey we're going to run the ball we want you to stop us if you can and so far a lot of teams have not been able to stop these both these running attacks both teams of better than a two-to-one ratio towards the left the pictures jealous he tries to get her on the left side he turns the corner and as we run out of bounds what a block by man and Phil - things happened on this place Brad 'ln almost gets to play he's outside number 55 right there he puts the pressure on the quarterback and makes the run now watch melanda newton come in here number one he's going to miss the tackle right there that allows him to get outside you have got to turn that back in on a pitch play like that every player has a certain segment of the pitch Lewis does a nice job to get outside and pick up good yardage - the first sound Louis checks out of the ballgame he who would side the senior from Vidalia Louisiana is packing [Applause] that's girly he meets a lot of company at the 43-yard line led by Paul Noel on the jr from eastern hills here in Fort Worth but that was a good work on the line to watch Llewellyn there he's 93 he's going to get blocked there's no shame in getting blocked now he's cut off right there but watch the way he plays across the face of the center and still gets back into the huddle into the tackle you can see him just diving in there that's good strength football great football both sides of the line second and eight the ball nosing across the 43 yard line again from the I formation through the left side again it is all women after a gain of five it will be third down and let's call it for what a tribute to that young man stumps great stuff number nine carried off the field on the shoulders of the head coach it was quite a picture that we saw this last week in the paper I've never seen a head coach now he wouldn't pick up a defensive lineman would Jackie said I'm going to carry off some me I think I can handle there is the pull back the I back is wit side looking down the others yeah intended for Gary Oliver a well-thrown ball Oliver slipped on the cut to the sideline and wow you see Craig stump get up Floyd Thoreau put a shot on him I mean he stuck them and that's what quarterbacks have to do they have got to concentrate downfield and they throw that ball knowing that they're going to get hit that young man's got a lot of courage back there he's standing back there and watching that linebacker just for a write down trying to pick up that wide receiver at the last second flick the ball off fourth down in floor now for the Aggies now they're dropping into punt formation stop punting today in place of John Wilson aiming for the sidelines and he is left it in bounds inside the 8 yard line it is down there but the Horned Frogs will have it inside their own 1092 yards away following a 31 yard punt by Craig stuff bought this doctor 9:30 in the first quarter we're scoreless from Fort Worth Texas we'd like to award you the account but frankly there's a problem what's that you agreed to keep this assignment confidential obviously you brought in freelance artists typesetters a lot hold all the work we've shown you was done by the people in this room on a computer what computer puts our work like this hi resan will tell you we raced a 1,900 miles across Australia powered only by the Sun GM beat Ford and 23 other entries the GM Sun racer solar cells from GM's Hughes Aircraft subsidiary drive motor from the GM research laboratories Magna quench magnets from Dell Karimi chassis from GM's engineering staffs a triumph of GM teamwork and technology the vision is paying off no score between the Aggies and the Horned Frogs you know Dave when you lose a player of the caliber of a Tony Jeffrey what does that do to a team's game plan when you lose that player less than 24 hours before this ball game especially when you talk about 45 scent of the action on the field the rushing game is Tony Jeffery it does one of two things feel like I said in the opening it either makes you fold your tent and you go in psychologically down or else great players will really motivate them motivate themselves and really answer I'm looking for Bobby Davis to come out and play well garnered again he has to carry a lot of the load do they have a lot fell on drilling a pressure on them but I think that they'll answer the call they've got a larger tradition here and they will play well he's out near the 15-yard line where he meets a swarm of eggy defenders well the great blockers on this team is Mike Sullivan number 77 he's only a freshman six foot three 275 pounds now he gets into a little bit of a problem and then that is that look how many white shirts around there the Texas A&M team you're a great defense when you react to the ball and that's what TTA Texas A&M does so well they react to the ball quickly that's been thirsty to pull back and he is stood up and tickled by atom bomb the Horned Frogs will have to punt it away and here comes a leading punter in the conference Chris Becker he's averaging almost 45 yards every time he puts his foot to the wall and one big advantage he has on this kick is he's with the wind the wind is swirling but currently it's behind him blonde hair swivel the ball it is every 71 yards with the Windy at a 73 yarder last week that's right the ball gets up and look at that look the recovery you've got to run back it's such a long way to come really the receiver does the right thing he misjudges it but watch how he tries to gather himself and play the bounce all of a sudden here comes TCU flying in there they did the right thing that was buddy Wyatt he came in and took out the receiver and they recovered a ball a big break for TCU the frogs with the football let's say an M 15-yard [Applause] intended for the tight end Ricky stone a flag is down on the near side at the 12 yard line and it may go against Texas A&M it looked as if they were holding up the wide receiver now probably lined up all sides I think they signaled lined up offsides that'll take the ball inside the eight yard line but what a shot TC use tight and Ricky stone took he turns around and looks through the ball and the safety is coming up now watch right here there's the ball he misses it and bam does he get hit that's Kip corrington and he is an outstanding safety he comes up he's a big play man a lot of tackles on there under one and on passes he's an excellent football player and he has a fumble recovery to his credit already today there's the kid to the right side it is Bobby Davis the junior out of Greenville high school and it is corrington on to tackle a gain of five ball spotted now at the three yard line they may have to measure this to see how close it is it looks very very close of course the markers are right there so it you know you might as well just bring them out take a look see how close they have to out far they might have to go or how far they're short but the length of a football they may be less [Applause] there goes the full-back Scott Bednarski into the ball game as does mark tips the backup halfback on the left side it's a good bet that Bednarski will get the football Bobby Davis is coming out of the ball game Ricky stone is also hustling to get off the field [Applause] market space peace guys lay Newman to attach the point after look sit through the uprights and Phil this is just the street power booth that dr. 31 he sees the scene look there's not much of a hole there great come up bye-bye number 10 Kip corrington he comes up in place this ball well there's not much of a scene but Lake strength second effort he rolls into the end d'Arthur puts the Horned Frogs on the scoreboard it comes with 721 to play in the opening period [Music] it runs with a beauty strange study sets it apart cool [Music] the great american face rugged distinctive a great american razor solid pivots for closeness the great American face deserves that great American shave only from Gillette the rights to the city of Houston are on the line last year it came down to one point it's the Houston Cougars and the Rice Owls next Saturday on the Raycom sports Network an absolutely sensational fall afternoon here in Fort Worth Texas temperature in the low sixes pretty stiff wind blowing as you look down in the field right to left now Texas Christian over the last couple of weeks has dropped new ball games by a grand total of four points Jim whacker would love to be in a position heading into the final few minutes of this ball game not to have another one of those close ones hung on him again let's it go that is rod Harris four yards deep down on a knee he goes and the Aggies will take it at their own 20-yard line and speaking of the Texas Aggies they arrest atop the standings in the Southwest Conference along with the Texas Longhorns and guess which two teams will lock it up on Thanksgiving this Texas A&M in Texas a lot of people say there's not a lot of significance this week because both teams can either win or lose but I can tell you as a football player there's a lot of significance on it because both teams want to go in with momentum they don't want to go in trying to second-guess them why they didn't do well last week going into the big game that will decide the Cotton Bowl first the Longhorns at home today against the Baylor Bears formation pitch to the left side that's what sad is tripped up at the 21 yard line and Phil nobody knows that better than jackie sherrill that they can't go flat you just have to play and you have to have your confidence high we need to maintain that through this 10 go into the Texas game with that momentum and that confidence high he's a great football coach he really knows how to coach this game of football gets a lot out of his players his confidence ought to be high you know since 1973 the Aggies are nine and OH following a shutout and last week I am Blanco Razorbacks of Arkansas pitch to the outside it is a outside and boy this Greg stuff take a shot Tony sharp hit Woodside watch this Hut's this penetration here you're gonna see what they do is they try to make the linebacker I mean the quarterback pitch the ball fast you can see how quickly stump read that coming down the line of Spradlin and pitch the ball fast that determines to play quickly and then you have to play and you have to play the run of course and they get good pursuit to it third down a big down because again that wind is a big factor third and seven at the 23 the year 38 percent of the cleared out opportunities stop looking at the short side of the field throws it is incomplete exceptional coverage by the right corner John boutté the senior out of Carthage High School you can see this is a touch pass to sideline you can see it's well covered even if he had caught the ball he probably would not have been able to come down with both feet in bounds it's a tough catch along the sidelines you have to come down with one foot and here comes TCU they're gonna put a lot of pressure on the punter Craig Stumpf the quarterback handling the punting duties this afternoon kickin in to that win let's it go the ball bounces out of bounds end-over-end at the 46 yard line it has certainly not been a case of the Horned Frogs having poor field position of 31 yard punt and Texas Christian will have the ball again with only 54 yards to negotiate the horn throbs already lead it by a touchdown [Music] over here for the ball tonight degree is bill Oakley two quarters but tonight he's gotta stand up and take charge make a man here's to you a clean crisp taste of beechwood aged Budweiser for all the guys who know it's not what you say of what you do we met in pre-dental and opened our practice 15 years ago best buddies usually usually things work out it could be worse I tell you one thing not many guys I could work yeah neither can I so right now our primary concern is making sure the practice continues because one of the son bites the dust it's the best attitude or that leave hard jefferson pilot insurance and financial services the Horned Frogs now with the pole at their own 47 yard line they have now taken over the ball twice at their own 47 in once at the ANM 13 yard line as you look at Tony Jeffery he will end his career number four on the Southwest Conference all-time leading rushing list his path Jarrett Delaney and he is stuck immediately by Alex Morris gain of seven and fill when you want to play in this league you've got to play one-on-one coverage watch the cornerback now it's March 30 look how close he is a nice closing speed coaches look for that once the ball is thrown how quickly do you close the gap the distance between the receiver and the defensive back go outside down there John Roper tremendous pursuit boy what a football player John Roper is I can tell you he's got a great career ahead of him if he wants to put in the National Football League he has mr. everything on this team it's one of the blitz brothers 13 sacks an interesting thing he said I could never play offense he said I'd rather hit than be hit to think that really shows that's kind of like the the inside to the defensive football player first down Prague's to give us at the full-back Bednarski Bednarski out of Crockett high school in Austin he's a junior his dad incidentally his pro wrestler Ivan putski yeah he's a tough little guy - and of course Bednarski wrestles in the offseason - he'd i think he'd wrestles and in with his dad must be a tag team hey dad give me a tap I want to go in [Applause] looking down and from the 38-yard line trying to be recovered by Adam blind I want to say that I think that was a pass he had to catch that ball in the air we may get another look at it but if the ball touches the ground it's a it's not this is not a fumble this is a shuffle pass watch the quarterback he drops back now he throws the ball forward if the ball touches the ground it's a it's not a fumble and the ball does not touch the ground you can watch right here now you'll see it with stone stones coming across he gets a good roll block there nice now there's the ball you can see see the defensive vendor right on his back catches the ball in the air that's an interception first down at the 36 yard line for the Aggies stop apparently authorizing and you got a left tackle I believe Lewis cheek who may have lifted a bit too quickly [Applause] and that is exactly the call illegal procedure against the Aggies well that's one way for Luis cheek to get his name mentioned what a football player he is he was that one a couple weeks ago he was our player of the game he is an outstanding prospect he is a great football player super kid really plays this game knows how to do great Drive blocking at that time he left on 1 instead of 2 4 minutes and 16 seconds remaining in the first period from Amon Carter Stadium in Fort Worth the Horned Frogs taking advantage of a muffed punt and took it in they elated seven to nothing klaxon stop looking deep yes got rod Harris he has the football that he is down and out of bounds at the 48-yard Harris made a beautiful TUC to the sidelines in front of olive oil Crum and he completely fooled Crump you don't see it on the right of your screen you won't even see Crump in the picture here when when it Harad Harris makes his turn look how far he is away now watch this get that Lake down in bounds excellent catch by rod Harris good concentration he had to come back to the ball once he made that out pattern stuff at his first completion in four attempts today that one good for 23 yards now he rolls right got a receiver wide open and he hits Gary Oliver the freshman red shirt out of Breckinridge high school Andre Spencer on the stop [Applause] all you recall it was just a week ago and that man right there droves the baby 70 yards and concluded the drive in the fourth quarter with a three yard pitch to Gary Oliver and that locked up the 14 to nothing win over the Razorbacks for what a victory that was at College Station that was a big one sucking down into the pool the Mac girlie and he has nothing Mitchell Benson the left tackle stuffed him immediately a flag is down at the line that again maybe lining up and then what they call the neutral zone from the ball from the point of the ball to the back point of the ball is what you called no man's land it's a neutral zone and I think he had his head in that neutral zone Tracy Simeon I think Dave is the fella you're talking about well the story line thus far in the ball game Texas A&M fumbled punt 71 yard punt resulted in a TCU touched down and put star third so far he has rushed for 23 yards and a touchdown first at the 35 spec began on a bowling at the line of scrimmage you see terrible is private third Aaron Louis his seventh touchdown of the year not bad for a freshman Scott's later tax on the part after and with 254 remaining in the first quarter we're tied at 7 watch this play it's an audible play look at the up back look at the block he puts on Floyd turtle number 48 Springs Darren Lewis he's right down the sideline stumps saw the play on the line of scrimmage he authorized you saw the back start to slide up a little bit they made quite a play on it now watch the block on the left side of your screen by number 38 Matt Gurley BAM there it is on Terra look at the hole that Darren Lewis runs through Sprint's right down the sideline a good block there by Harris just to pick up someone on the side but what a call by Craig stump on the line of scrimmage he saw the play he called it and there the results resident points Darren Lewis only stands 511 but he goes 205 pounds he's one of those old kids with me a freshman yeah he's a freshman out of Carter high school in Dallas well it certainly was a nice dry of course the big thing was the 35 yard run couple nice passes on that drive good play calling solid play calling by Texas A&M the one thing they have not done is they have not panicked in that situation there they are in the sidelines and what they're doing is they're talking to defense saying okay this is what we did wrong these are both teams that instruct players they don't yell and scream at them they're telling them what they did wrong 40 in your picture there is Terrell and he knows what he did wrong he got blocked there's no sinning getting blocked Lane Talbot a all-state freshmen red shirt out of Beaumont Texas lets it go short kick rasca theta effect up linebackers saw it come and took the big hop and scooted out of bounds he almost broke this all away I didn't know I thought he was going to try to lateral the ball he kind of flipped it out now watch this he picks the ball he's fighting now that's where he flipped it out if he turns this corner and gets squared up he's down the sideline there was no one there except the kicker to try and come over and get him and again Phil they've got great field position that's been one of the big stories is good field position so far for TCU 46 yard line is grab air Wallace rings him down [Applause] I'll tell you what when you want to discuss outside linebackers inm has two of the very best in this conference well they call them the Blitz brothers and that's with good mention because John Roper has 13 sacks and that man there Wallace has 10 sacks they really come after I want to just show you what the wind is doing look at the jerseys how hard the wind is blowing wind is an important factor in the game and AM has reacted well to it they got the bad play on the punt but they came right back and scored close the poll piled up in the air by the tight-end Rickey stone as a quarterbacks nightmare strong winds and receivers who bet the ball airborne that's what causes interceptions in Rickey stone has got he's been known for those great catches that's when he should have caught that ball was right there and he just misjudged it that's not Rascoe small to that ball have been intercepted that have been counted against him but really would have been his fault therefore drop-line we'll be stopped at the 48-yard line by the cornerback Alex Morris until you know that looks like a simple place you look at Morris in the in the picture there but that is a great tackle that's what you want to do when you tack was a secondary man you're the last line of defense he breaks down makes a nice tackle on to play doesn't get faked out and comes up with a fourth down Chris Becker he has a 69 today the wind that is back he lets it sail and that one is hidden puppy in zone a 52-yard putt now thus far on the afternoon that man right there has averaged about 59 yards of punch welcomed like we talked about the wind is an important factor it really plays a big just place a big equaling equalizer in a football game especially when you take the win TCU elected to I think they won the toss I was watching the ball and they did win the toss elected to kick off said hey we think the wind is that important we'll take it a football we're tied at 27 again stuff appears to be Ottawa lysing Kairat Harris [Applause] Andre Spencer was right on top of Harris and it was a very very well thrown football to gain of nine for the Aggies that's the important thing it was not bad coverage it was an excellent pass by stumpin than just an excellent catch when you throw that out pattern like that there's no chance of that ball being intercepted Harris is catching it about a foot and a half off the ground there's no chance of an interception that is just a well-designed play the top of your screen goes to flankers Gary Oliver bottom of your screen is Rob Harris sucking down and sure that's the cool back Matt Gerlich he has the first down before with Floyd Terrell knocks him down again for for the Aggies last Saturday that man right there girly 80 yards this is a very very tough Arkansas defense well the Southwest Conference you mentioned in your opening that the Southwest Conference is known for their defense that's what makes rushing when you can rush against this type of defense you can rush against anybody the i-formation first down which side running parallel he has hit kilometer spins away and carries the ball out across the 40-yard line Louis cheek good clearing block on the left side Andre Spencer finally brings him down second time today we have seen Philander Newton miss attacker oh well that is deadly tackle he's missing a tackle but the tackle is because it's a great football player running the first quarter has expired we'll be back with more for collection right after these messages from your local station one weekend a month you can take off for the Beach Drive in the country in the Army Reserves it's no picnic but it's the kind of excitement no other weekend operation and you'll still have three weekends a month to take off on your own in the real world there are a few guarantees but when it comes to buying water bed one company guarantees you the lowest prices that company is Big Sur water beds and while others may raise their prices for Christmas Big Sur stay the lowest guaranteed choose the bookcase Shilo for just one $49.99 or the four post Nassau for just two $49.99 big sur water baths with showrooms on the East freeway the Gulf Freeway the Southwest Freeway and two of the North Freeway marching man the offensive unit is on the football field the Aggies on the Horned Frogs as we begin the second quarter to play tied at a touchdown apiece it's uh and the i-formation in motion is Harris stop wants to put it up he is going for Harris is wide open [Applause] it was simply a case where the left corner Andre Spencer thought David Harris was going to turn it inside and he went for the sideline well he certainly did and you'll [ __ ] from field-level stump gets a lot of time to stand back there and what well now what happens with Harris is that he takes and he makes a defensive back turn his back any time a defensive back turns his back he loses him he doesn't know where he's going he lost his cushion and this is a-rod Harris spectacular day it's almost like a highlight day for that young man Ritchie Waddell and Tony Thompson are the wide outs for the Aggies as they shifted to the I the football he is Matt helmet-to-helmet by Floyd Terrell a loss of a couple and fill the strong side safety number 42 Tommy sharp came up made a great stop he stuck the lead back right on the ground about four yards deep in there and made him cut back inside and there was no place for Woodside to go on that play that's a good play but when you Safety's up that far in the backfield you're very vulnerable to the past Richard Webb has kind of the ball game now as has Mike Pappas on the left side of that Aggie suck it down in 13 by Tony Thompson Oh dick Craig don't pay for that 17-yard pick boy you want to talk about pressure watch this watch the hit on stump right down his throat you go see it inside linebacker there he comes stumps holding the ball the last second he lets it go and there he is down on the ground it takes a lot of courage that was Paul Llewellyn who is rushing in there number 93 that quarterback has to stand back there you almost have to have ice water in your veins because you just have to be confident that your receiver is going to get open you know you're going to take the shot you have to just stand back there and take it Tony Thompson wide right single coverage there out of the I formation again here comes the a he's on first down it's Luis he has one touchdown already today and he is stuffed at the 11 yard line the left tackle Mitchell Benson the young man out of eastern hills here in Fort Worth well first quarter statistics take a look at the total yardage amm with 109 the horn crawls with 46 but field position was a big thing in that fumble punt when when a and M miss played that punt that really looms is the big factor you can see the turnovers two fumbles by a while one fumble and one interception by TCU the one fumble by an A&M we've got an injured player down on the field too he's getting up I think it's number 40 that's Gary Oliver he's back up running now now let's cues miss Floyd Terrell on the defense now the Horned Frogs can ill afford to be without Floyd Terrell services he is tops on this defense in tackles this year Louis cheek has now come back in number 79 down wants to put it up instead he will go down heap of purple jerseys left by Mitchell Benson a loss of nine and fill that is an interesting call I was really surprised you knew it was passed all the way when he started the players in motion and had three wide receivers but you can see the pocket just rumbles Vinson just runs over top of his man Benson's about 65 295 pounds and he just rolled back over top of his guard and that's the 38th sack that's quite a record for a young defensive team because we've already talked about a emsac record they have a phenomenal sack record also but the difference between these two defenses is the Horned Frogs are getting those sacks primarily by their down linemen they do not blitz very often on 3rd in a bundle roof slides out of the end zone and that's what the officials are gonna call he made the catch but had at least one foot across that white line yes he did you could see it the tail end of the play he knew he was close to the sideline watch his feet maybe we can see it now watch right there look at the little tiny stutter steps he dressed right there now he's out but you can see how he who's trying to get those feet down see how quickly he just kind of fell out of bounds he knew he was right there in the sidelines now they're brought up to a field goal trying a lot of wind behind Slater's back slater only 9 of 16 this one from 37 yards away it's a clean hold for the good whistles it thrilled Scott Slater a year ago he sent a conference record nailing 21 field goal attempts this year it has been a different story only his 10th in 17 tries what did that get a moment see this long row of Junkers it's not too tough a road for the famous board pigfoot but can a regular Ford 4x4 drive over it carrying a Chevy watch a support struts to claw over the twisted metal only Ford has twin Gretchen beam front suspension and this year only Ford has a complete line of multi-port fuel injected engines yes the Ford makes it over the torture Road and joins its big brother Ford the best-selling pickup in the world now get $500 cash bonus on all new f-series pickups with manual transmission here's to the winners miracles Holiday Inn welcomes you the people who know that winning at life is working hard at it and living in fully day after day holiday in salute you here's to the winners we're on your way well but it's to play the second quarter and there's a lady who has been an Aggie for many many years Maggie mom and a Maggie grandmom probably I am set to kick it away it is a Reggie Davis and a lightning hit back at their own 5y and this one's going to go all that trailing wind blown it about probably 10 to 15 miles an hour the Talbot has done his job as the frogs will begin from their own 20-yard line the scoring drive for the Aggies they go 60 yards it took them four minutes and 27 seconds to get there and it was Scott Slater from 37 yards out who have given the Yankees at 10-7 lead and now it is the Horned Frogs going into that stiff win but Dave when you are primarily a ground oriented offense that win doesn't make a bit of difference well it does hurt a little bit though because they don't have Jeffrey to they may have to Pat to you a bit more Resco is knocked up his feet by atom Bob and of course the question a lot of people around these parts are going to be wondering during the offseason Dave is what about David Resco he's been criticized for being too slow at getting to the outside and of course the veer is predicated on getting to the corners and that's what Scott anchoring did so well last year well then the question remains - what do you do next year when you have Bank room back and rafts go back Roscoe a little bit of confusion as he gets almost knocked off his feet by Bobby Davis Joe Johnson and Adam Bob combining on the stop rascal picks up a couple you can see there look it there now that's where Texas A&M ranks as the national leaders those are the top five defenses in the United States that's some tall cotton right there with with Oklahoma South Carolina's having a great year Michigan State Clemson and AM they are playing great football especially on defense Wayne to the left the pitches out to Delaney he spins across the 30-yard line he has got the first down Alex Morris the right corner makes the tackle but not before Delaney picks up eight yards and a horn frog first down but you can see the respect that they have on Delaney out on the left side here you go see how wide open he is when you're one-on-one you try to keep a cushion and that's Alex Marsh coming up now the big thing is wrap your hands up don't let go drag them down wait for some help you can see help coming in there a boy you don't want to get faked out on that play specially when you have someone like Jarrett there Lanie's great speed down field it's a first down but give mr. Turkey and he cracks through the left side in behind Rob Adams and Jeff Hopkins Adam Bob with helping Joe Johnson on the tackle a gain of two for TCU when Adam Bob can play middle linebacker he is good 24 where's the defensive back look at that steps across right in there gets on the tackle one thing that Texas A&M does so well is they play their keys well they know exactly where they're supposed to be by the blocking combinations and they play it really real call himself pitch for the full-back Bednarski and Piekarski runs for big yardage out of 40 for John or Oakland coming into this ballgame with 81 tackles makes the stop Bednarski you see his work here in 1987 when you have a guy like Tony Jeffery in the backfield it means that your full backs not going to see the ball very much well the ones do one stat that is almost overwhelming is the fact that Jeffrey had accounted for 45% of the total running game that's nothing it's all a quick operations well what block by Brian brothel number 73 we're making on Gary it's right up here now watch when he breaks free now right in here he's going to cut back you're going to see the plot coming right in here in a second know where it is Brian brothel he's 25 yards down it's another one and he's high-stepping in the end zone Lane Hillman decks on the point after a flag is now the point after will stand and apparently the walk off will be wealth direction that is not a flag it is a yellow 21:08 in the first half cause a big dip play a 56-yard law Pretoria d'Arthur [Music] [Music] what a trip to Honolulu syllable let's stay at the beautiful Ala Moana hotel into the coca-cola Southwest Conference super fan sweepstakes at your neighborhood Kroger store or participating supermarkets the celebration that's one Subaru commercial you won't see the rest of what's really important is in hoopla but a great deal on a great car like over 2,300 dollars savings on a Subaru for example you can get a 1987 GL station wagon for only 98-94 during the red-hot red tag sale at your Subaru dealer test drive a new Subaru today at one of your nearby Texas subaru dealers this week's winner in the coca-cola Southwest Conference super fans sweepstakes is Joe Peters of Houston he's the winner of a trip for two to the Cotton Bowl you know you could win a trip to the Cotton Bowl or the grand prize that took to the whole Bowl on Delta Airlines and are at your nearby Kroger store or a participating supermarket 9:21 left and the first tab it's the Horned Frogs out in front of am 14 to 10 and now lee newman is going to have to put that ball in the air into a very very stiff wind and dave you wonder perhaps Newman might try and squib it oh yeah from the field definitely feel you want to keep that ball down because if it hangs up well if it hangs up it can be received quickly now what they do is they let you set the ball once then they bring somebody out and they say okay you got to hold it see they don't want to have that ball fall off the tee twice so they'll bring in someone I think that's Anthony let's see that's Higgs I believe 21 that comes in and holds the ball but he's got to kick it low that's the object in this try to scoot it through the front line and make it tough for the receivers to pick up on the roll let go Ali kicks it high and slay that ball may come back and get him it is not by nuclear Washington and John boutté smashes Washington and Phil let's take another look at that touch - touch down by d'Arthur there's several keys in this Razzles on the left side of your screen he's going to come all the way down and get a great block but d'Arthur breaks a tackle there that's a great play now he turns it back up inside there was a good clear block downfield here comes Brazel boom and there's the block now there's a good block down there look at the wide receiver in the play that's Richie Davis 88 and he gets a good block downfield and d'Arthur goes in it's an excellent run against a great defense the 56 yard touchdown gallop the longest of the year against A&M the previous was 41 yards by Southern Mississippi pitch comes near side he is one of at the 33-yard line a gain of three for the young man out of quarter high school in Dallas Floyd Terrell who left the game earlier is back in there and he made the stop frogs go 80 yards it only took them six plays of course when you're chewing it up at the rate of 56 yards of play it didn't take you very long but one thing today in them has in their favor they are a very cute football team very well schooled on offense and defense to Tennessee which is tight in flying laws the sophomore from San Angelo now here at Amon Carter Stadium with 8:35 to play in the first half it's TCU over am 14 to 10 taking a look at our Apple roundup it is halftime at Penn State with the Nittany Lions are out in front of seventh ranked Notre Dame and Ohio State trailing Michigan at the half by six and what other score first period Tennessee ranked 15th in the nation trailing the Wildcats of Kentucky three nothing first down Aggies at the 42-yard line see see you trying to make the adjustment now flags are down everywhere like what you had there is two men in motion Oh could it be that or a delay of game you know they have only 25 seconds to start that play and I think it may be a delay Stumpf game came up the line of scrimmage and saw something and tried to audible eyes you see that's the city well there's a signal on the sidelines it was delay of game where's mr. Stumpp statistics nice statistics 60% completions 100 yards he has really found Ron Harris today rod Harris's course the primary receivers with 67 of those 100 yards there's dad and 15 now the ball push back to their own 30 a why that feel that is slipped off his feet boy Tara was the first man who took his legs out from under him when in Iran Luis jumped the board for good measure he never piled on did youdid no no Eric never jumped now we do have an injured player down on the field it looks as if it's Tony Bartley 78 he was right in the middle of that action on that block and his face down there just maybe he might just trying to get his breath or something but now he might have gotten stunned maybe we can see it on this play now it's gonna be 78 he's gonna be on the right of your screen see if we see it there he is he goes down now look watch Lewis his foot look at Louis his foot Oh kicked him right in the face mask was a totally accidental but Louis kicked him right in the face mask when he went to hurt him partly kind of looked up and caught a foot right in the face of course Phil one of the things all defense all foul offense and defensive lineman wear masks and the mask is designed so that you don't let anything get in a foot or a shoe couldn't enter inside the mask I think it's more of a stun than it is you know anything that would you know be a bruise or a shot in the face it's more of a stun than it is anything lineman Dave still wear those type of mass they call him birdcages oh yes what they call McCall birdcages because they really look like it it's now watch Louis's left foot I think it is when he goes to hurdle right there you see him hit him right in the face and then you see 78 just put his head right back down Bartley put his head right down he was stunned on the play of course fill both these teams have great medical staffs and they're right out there there's a doctor out there a trainer you can see coaches oftentimes come out and they just will take all the precautions now they've got them over there talking to them sometimes you just have been in that situation and they'll say what day is it you say it's Thursday while the medical staff continues to look over their senior right tackle Tony partly will take a break the clock is stocked with 736 to play in the first half it's the Horned Frogs over the Aggies 14 to 10 these days people talk a lot about truth in labeling budweiser we started our own truth is still true today came to be resumed why do you have to go to town today because it's his job like he doesn't make it back in time he'll be here if he can you know that one pigeon he knows when you really need to get back home remember the company plane is on call I could pitch a no-hitter and you miss it no we won't hey fly Southwest Airlines just say when now they have brought a stretcher out onto the playing field and Tony partly will be lifted onto the stretcher perhaps more than anything else for precautionary reasons and that is a the one thing that they do so well in both the college and the pro ranks is they certainly take care of their athletes when there is a possibility day of of a serious injury absolutely and that's shot what happened on the play to describe it as I've looked at it twice as I believe Louis's mitt might have been his knee hit him in the face and Bartley was he was down on the ground he started to look up and Louis kind of caught him with the knee in the face mask or in the upper part of the helmet and may have just stunned this neck back now the fact that they rolled him over that's a good sign he's obviously when they wouldn't roll him over if they thought there was any severity in the damage they just want to take precautions in this and get him up get him off and make sure that he is all right you just hate to see something like that happen I was on a football field one time when there was a very serious injury or Darryl Stingley and the doctors take great precaution to make sure that nothing will happen that will further further traumatize the injury now Texas A&M coming into this ballgame with an overall record of seven into four and one in the Southwest Conference Donnie Bartley being carried off now we will update his condition just as soon as let's take one last look at that exactly what happened now there's several things on this plane if we can stop it now watch there's the can where he cuts back now partly it's down on the ground now watch here you'll see Bartley start to look up there's the knee in the helmet right there you see 25 Snee right in the front of the helmet Bartley goes back down and that's what caused it an interesting thing is it didn't hurt Louis's knee as hard as he hit his helmet so it's second down and ten is the clock starts 7 21 7 27 19 remaining in the first half stop swings around an offensive job by the left-wing Ron Louis the pass intended for fullback Mac Gurley and if Lewis doesn't pick up that coverage he's a defensive end covering the back out of the backfield they had a blitz if Lewis doesn't knock that play away watch Louis you're gonna see him he's 81 he's a down defensive lineman now he sees the swing he has to run with it and watch right here he's got coverage look at that if he doesn't get that it's down the sideline and girly would have run for a long way because TCU had gambled and blitz they brought quote their inside linebacker and Harris or the white outs for the Aggies on third and 10 yards he goes SEC Kentucky see you [Applause] they'll snuff early through this baller coverage you can see he's just zeroed in on his wide receiver look how far the safety comes over there's number 42 in there that's sharp he's in there 40 is in there they were reading the eyes of stuff that time he didn't look off he looked just that one direction trying to pick up that one wide receiver and it's not a terrible play because it is about a 30-yard downfield loss of yardage the give is to turn third Berra third already with two touchdowns on the afternoon the middle guard sameö Bryant stops them but not before Darth a picks up four and out Tony is very slow in getting up here's to be holding onto his right shoulder I think he fell with the ball on his shoulder and poor they cannot afford to loose darker now watch the Wade our third Falls on this play you'll see him number 31 takes the ball if he falls on the ball and the shoulder watch right here if he comes down boom see the ball right underneath them then down comes the defensive Latif's comes down on top of them it just kind of pushes the ball back up into your check seven picked up your tweeting for the junior out of Greenville high school Gary Jones forced them out of bounds at the 48 yard line of the Yankees and what a heads-up play by Rask oh that time that was not his intended receiver he was going downfield to a wide receiver at the last second he got in trouble scrambled and found Davis out of the backfield heads-up play by the young quarterback [Applause] stop it nice people pool is brought to his knees by guy broom guy broom the defensive end on the left side playing today's ballgame 4:00 a.m. with a severely sprained elbow well this sign this time in the air is really it's injuries are really compounded because you don't have time to take a week or so off and get well that front line of A&M they are as good as you will find broom Samuel client in there Terry price they play great down defense net O'Brien especially in the middle he is all over the place now the Horned Frogs apparently Rascoe not happy with something he saw that A&M side of the line calls an immediate timeout it stops the clock with 555 to play in the first half and it's the frogs 14 the Aggies 10 this car is about to take its first journey all too soon deposit buildup in the intake system can begin to help keep you calm performance we suggest Gulf super unleaded with tech relief and other premium cleans entire intake systems Dolf super unleaded performance I need to find a high-yield investment without the risks our response the high-yield plus CD a fully insured CD with a three month bonus rate up front first Republic Bank that's responsive banking I wish we didn't have to wait on our banker when we made our decision all response first line of credit I'll let you write yourself alone whenever you first republic bank that's responsive banking well the eggy's they lose seven defensive starters a year ago they are tied for the lead in the Southwest Conference and Dave they are number one in defense this year how in the world as jackie sherrill done that well it comes from a lot of things but really comes from grooming players the great football teams have backup players they get them a lot of time in game situations where they can have an opportunity to get in there and play when you're ahead and that's what jackie sherrill and his staff have done they're great teachers of defense the cuts really when you lose one of those seniors you've got a junior or sophomore and step right in at the line of scrimmage and it's the nose tackle Sammy O'Brien you can see along the line number ninety is over ayat he's getting good penetration in there 93 that's guy broom they get the great hands up in there the ball is tipped up it's almost up for anybody that defensive line I just I love watching A&M defensive line because they run the line of scrimmage so well they don't get knocked down they play a 3/4 alignment Lesko swings it to the near side a pass intended for Rickey stone and it falls incomplete so it'll be up to the frogs to kick it away Phil I looked across the field and they took the facemask off of Tony Bartley's facemask off his helmet so that they could get his helmet off he's on the sideline he's in good care you can see him there that's him laying on the bench him moving his hands right there it's probably got a good shot it probably stung the upper the upper nerves up and then up in the neck and you know it kind of Numb see hands and numbs the arms but that's a good sign to see him moving his hand so well first Becker's Potter's fielded by rod Harris at the 18 yard line Harris has left one early in this ball game at the 13 yard line the ball bounced freeze Abroad's recovered it took it in 48 yard cut for veterans perhaps more important than the distance of that punt is the back day that affects the Aggies up to their own 18 but they have that wind with them and when they have that wind with them stump can go downfield if he makes good selections what I would do right now is run pay play passes where you faked in the line and then maybe bringing out the door careless [Applause] I want to play by Darren Lewis he breaks through the line and you're going to see some great pursuit but Darren Lewis look at the split in that line great block there by the by the offensive line it looked like 56 Webb got a great block the two inside men the center there's Lewis good pursuit by the Horned Frogs and knock him out of bounds but Wow did Lewis explode once he got through there 46 yards on that run he had a look receipt by John boutté the right corner man he close at record speed on the 36 yard line it's an inside handoff doesn't get much the Lewis cheek he was our player of the game one time in one game earlier and I'll take he is a football player look at this he's got a block across now he misses his inside block he's just trying to push downfield even when he's to have him to ground he's still scrambling bothy you gotta love a player like that it's got great stamina ability loves the game is they say he practices fantastic practice player too check it down and nine stuff for the right side throw sideline in and out of the hands of Gary Oliver I want a touchdown catch that youngster had last week well now the Aggies are faced with 3rd and 9 at the 35 yard line look the Horned Frogs you can see stumped statistics now what he's doing is he's looking over the sidelines to get a signal on the play they signal plays in from the sidelines he's looking over there now he'll get the play who reads the signal steps in the huddle and makes the call on jackie sherrill his staff are telling him what to one has missed his last four passes and now the officials are gonna hold things up as the Aggies have called timeout and for good reason jump looked up and saw one second remaining on the shot clock well you saw how much time it took him to get that signal from the sidelines he won one time he just stuck his hands out when hey come on let's go now accommodations arranged through Fairmont Hotels whether traveling to San Francisco New Orleans Dallas or to their newest hotels in Chicago or San Jose American business is stepping up to Fairmont Amon Carter Stadium built back in 1929 at an original cost of three hundred and fifty thousand dollars four years ago they put lights here at the stadium the cost of constructing the lights over four hundred thousand dollars those lights are expensive you're right boy I tell you when they built these stadiums in the old in fact when you made about 50 cents an hour yeah what did you think well that initial stadium near Amman Carter's seated only I believe 22,000 but through four different expansion projects it is now up to 46,000 and Phil I looked across the field and Bartley is sitting up we might be able to get a picture area sitting up there that's another good sign now what they're doing is they're pulling on his neck they've got a collar on his neck trying takes on that pressure off the floor Terrell you'll watch stuff get the pressure from the right side the last minute it's Tracy Simeon coming around puts a lot of pressure Terrell just jumps up he was injured just the play ago you can see a good tackle there by the defense by the offense of wide receiver and stuff took quite a shot he's over on the sideline bending over that's the time when Dubois say you know it's coming you've got to take it you got to stand in there just a tough shot on that the short side of the field he's up across the 37 near the 38 to interceptions and a muffed punt and the Horned Frogs have life here in the second period for 25 remaining in the first half and it's TCU over A&M 14 to 10 what an emotional week Jim we have just gone through and talking with him on the sidelines yesterday he couldn't even talk he was so emotionally upset about the Tony Jeffery situation there's the wishbone that year December 22 Bobby Davis Mantha jr. is met at the line by Alex Morris with help from the free safety Kip corrington until I think that jackie sherrill you know we talked about the reference that he made hey it was no big thing I think what he was trying to do was prepare his team saying don't let all your emotion go out with that one player don't feel sorry for TCU you have to go out there and play a football game they still have good football players defeat you of aside Tony Jeffords absolutely and and jackie sherrill knew that coming into the game let's go look into the right side of the field ball is on the turf and it's going to be recovered by the Aggie [Applause] Resco blindsided by Aaron Wallis while they call them the Flitz brothers the two outside linebackers Roper on the left side Aaron Wallace on the right side you're going to see Wallace BAM there's two hit the balls free somehow Wallace gets back in there and recovers the ball not only makes the sack causes the fumble but recovers the fumble in the same play what an outside linebacker at six for 215 pounds turnovers now even at three a total of six here in the first half of today's ballgame well those are not turnovers a couple those turnovers have been caused by just solid football great hits good line play good surgery by those linebackers and are watching two defenses this afternoon who has something for each other there's a good example of what I'm talking about is the full-back Matt Gurley is stood up by Philander Newton now jackie sherrill will take his Aggies in to Memorial Stadium next week the tangle with the Longhorns of Texas it's at the College Station College Station Italy David McWilliams who will bring his Longhorns ahead in it is Tracy Simeon on the stop don't get the block at the corner if you don't block the defensive end you're gonna see them on the right side of your screen if you don't block him they get that penetration there's Indian BAM right in the hole you've got this one at least stabilize them right on the line of scrimmage you can't allow him to get penetration when you have a down the line option play that time you got great penetration mm is on the move to the bottom of your string to Harris incomplete a flag is down the Lando Newton on the coverage a flag is down at the 15-yard line that's going to be pass interference I know they're talking about it but that is definitely pass interference but it may be against the Texas A&M team for pushing off we have to wait for the call but it's a pass interference call but it's against A&M wow that's a surprise now watch on the top of your screen there he is he comes down now as he pushed him right there oh yeah it does he pushed him Wow now that's not the play that's not the one that with a pass was intended for but that's past interference that was rod Harris who shoved him and he shoved I believe that was Spencer on that play Andre Spencer number 35 more coaches do not like that jackie sherrill not a happy man of course Jim whacker has got to be loving it it shoves the eggy's back to the 47 yard line and there goes Tony partly well it's good to see uh several things there number one he's sitting up they have a collar on him he's taking a shot in the neck but he's good to see him sitting up he's got use of his arms he's moving around he's probably just stunned he probably took quite a shot and that's a good sign to see him wheeling him up off the field I'm happy to see that stomp wobbly pun it goes out of bounds out near the 15 maybe the 20 yard line it'll be spotted officially at the 16 156 arraigning in the first half here at Amon Carter said even Fort Worth TCC arrived in front of the AG's 14 to 10 in the third period now Penn State and the Fighting Irish are knotted at 14 [Applause] that annarbor the buckeyes of Ohio State leading the Wolverines 14 to 13 and fill with just under two minutes to go right now TCU does not want to make a mistake they're not interested in scoring but they just don't want to have a fumble or an interception something along that line with two touchdowns already on the book this afternoon moves to the left side and Aaron Wallace takes him down a gain of a couple just shy of the 20 yard line or what a week it has been for gym record in fact what a couple of weeks at his home for that man suffers a heartbreaking three last week at Texas dark it again then the Vitesse cuts his legs out from under him and now Texas A&M they should use their timeouts now because they've got a good chance to get that ball back you know the wind is blowing right in that punters face I'd be taking those timeouts right now try to get the ball back it's going to be third down about seven if they don't pick it up you call another timeout great field position there's the situation with 113 remaining in the half the Horned Frogs and I am it is 14 to 10 TCU turnovers have certainly played a big big factor in this ball game three apiece well the game is played around turnovers turnovers of course of fumbles or interceptions when you give it to the opponent and turnovers have played a big factor they led to the seven points the first seven points at ECU scored when they fumbled that punt now what they will do is they will go in the huddle now whackers saying no fumble make sure look at that you got to drive the ball control the ball if it's a pass make sure it's a safe pass on defense they went in a huddle and corrington went in the huddle and said listen if we stop them on this third down somebody quickly call timeout especially if it's a running play and and with one time since Christian has two and seven thank you we Shia the first down and a time out is called immediately by the Aggies and you know what I noticed this really interesting is that jackie sherrill when he wants to timeout he sends somebody off the sideline for timeout he doesn't he helped after one of his players he said he has someone standing right there the person runs right out to the referee and signals timeout interesting very interesting at the tail end of the play Dallas situation becomes Dave as the defensive coordinator the special teams coach 4:00 a.m. do you go after the Ponte T is set up the return well you know you're going to get you it's gonna be tough to get a return because the wind is so stiff so what I would do is I'd go after the punt because you know you're going to get good field position I doubt from this position on about the 23 yard line about a 30 yard punt will only take them out to just past midfield 30 35 yards so I'd come after the punter on this play look of all those white jerseys at the here they come tremendous plunder the circumstances paris's diet [Applause] it was unbelievable I don't know how he got the pun off what's the pressure we know they're there come and look at them all up there now watch where he gets the ball off right there he hadn't even kicked the ball look where it goes it goes off the side of his foot that's the way the punt got off this is amazing now watch again you're going to see the ball comes off the side of his foot look where the white shirts are in there there's one two three four five six of them in there wow they were lucky to get that punt off heads-up play though by jackie sherrill 50 create six remaining in the first half emotional sets up come in here son the hands of Gary Oliver boy credit John boutté a backup right corner with exceptional timing well the ball was thrown so high look at the trajectory of the ball way up high look at Oliver go up high for the ball he almost pulls it in Budi did make a nice play Oliver made a nice play Stumpf delivered the ball there that was just a good football play a little bit high you have to do get that the trajectory of that ball has to be a little more level on a pass like that Stumpf last six passes has not concluded one make it his last seven intended for the tide and Sylvester Morgan the senior elevates high school in Houston that good coverage by Floyd Terrell let's what broke that pass up you see Jackie Cheryl doesn't like it once that ball hits your hands there's the old adage they say if it hits your hands you should catch it that ball hits Sylvester Morgan's hands but the minuting in his hands Terrell ripped in there pulled those arms away stump it doesn't look like he's having a good day now he was 6 of 10 he's missed his last six or seven passes as you said but he's thrown the ball on target they're very catchable football he's going to go for a tall it incomplete or was it intercepted it was intercepted [Applause] where's Spencer his second interception of the year you can see stump getting helped off the field this is not a bad pass it had a chance to be caught by the receiver but it's just like a putt that ball traveled about 45 yards in the air so it's aw it's just like punting the ball and not having a return stump went to the sideline I saw Lois cheek hold him up kind of bring him over sideline you can see him talking to him there he obviously got hit after the ball was delivered he's taken some shots today he's a tough young man the intended receiver Gary Oliver the fire it out of Breckinridge high school I'll tell you what Maggie fans have a lot to look forward to and number 40 Gary Oliver he can flat-out fly that's Bobby Davis and that may very well be the last play of the first half as we are at the twenty second mark an M cannot stop the clock they are out of timeouts and TCU doesn't want us tough but they have timeouts but they don't want to stop it obviously leading 14 to 10 now the Horned Frogs as I had mentioned earlier in the telecast Blazers with their last two ballgames by a grand total of four points find themselves on top by four at halftime we'll be back with more football action from Amon Carter Stephen Fort Worth after these messages from your local station add a bit of Christmas magic with great water bath accessories from Amon Carter Stadium on the campus of Texas Christian where the Horned Frogs surprisingly enough out in front of the Texas Aggies by a count of 14 to 10 you know last August Ohio State's football program or zoo rock when it was learned that their star wide receiver Chris Carter had accepted illegal payments from an agent shortly thereafter the University of Pittsburgh's program was rocked since then Georgia Tech the University of Texas and then yesterday right here at Texas Christian was hit again with me is the Commissioner of the Southwest Conference Freddie Toby and Brett it is not simply a Southwest Conference problem it is a situation that is permeating the entire collegiate scene we're intercollegiate athletics just a microcosm of society and the problems we have throughout the nation we have an intercollegiate athletics and with a player agent problem it's certainly nationally it's not local dick Schultz the new executive director of the NCAA having taken over from Walter Byers the situation is such I think now at this point bred where should that be the number one priority of the NCAA to somehow control these agents well it's certainly at the top of the list and I think federal legislation is really about the primary solution to it obviously it has internal implications as well but I think we must try to attack it from the federal legislation standpoint what was your feeling when you first learned yesterday that TCU was going to be hit again Tony Jeffery declared ineligible well it was agonizing and certainly disappointing however when you're faced with the information TCU did what they had to do and I admire their stance there's also word that TCU and Tony Jeffery not the only player or school affected by what the NCAA found out earlier this week you have any more light that you could shed red or any other Southwest Conference schools involved at this point not to mine now adjourn the other Southwest Conference schools involved hundred student athletes around the nation so I think the implication is severe information or thanks for taking time out to join us enjoy the remainder this football game Thank You Commissioner Fred Jacoby of the Southwest Conference legends of the Southwest Conference is presented by the jefferson pilot company it's been 40 years since Doug Walker won the Heisman Trophy today let's look back at the career of the former SMU grade in 1942 with most of the country's attention focused on world war ii a legend began at Highland Park High School in balance it was the legend of number 37 Doak Walker Walker and friend Bobby Lane began what was to be a storybook career Marlina will always great great friends and enjoy playing with one another and I guess we had a lot of time to Center shame as you thought as long we play together father we could read somewhere jokes always been a good kid and there's one of the most easily disciplined kids I guess it was he never told me in his life I ain't gonna do it you know he just wasn't that kind of a kid dokas always accepted what came and normal about it the story of Walker moved on to SMU where he led the Mustangs to a pair of Southwest Conference titles an undefeated season and a win in the Cotton Bowl the three-time all-american picture could be seen on the cover of national magazines but his biggest collegiate award came following his junior year in 1948 I have the honor at this time to present to you the Heisman Memorial Trophy Award the greatest honor in football congratulations dawg Thank You mr. Jordan just spoiling the pleasure to receive this great honor I hope that I can live up to the great expectations I had learned about was through a telegram that went to Lester Jordan and Mary Belle and then I think I was going hunting or something and got back Monday and they told me that I had won the Heisman Trophy and then I would be going to New York to receive it and when I was happy the truth that I'll be honest with you I don't think I knew that much about the Heisman Trophy I really think I could spell it and I'm not sure I can obey but I think I have realized to appreciate more now than I did then Honda spends six seasons with the Detroit Lions being named all-pro four of those years in 1986 his professional efforts were rewarded as he was named to pro football's however out to be with the Class of 86 the awards continued in 1986 when Walker's SMU Jersey was retired appropriately the ceremony took place in the Cotton Bowl the house that doke built a Batman associate that he had to pay for ago my hands are still pretty good shape so as list I look like I had that do for too much work but he did as Doak Walker accomplished what no other SMU player has been able to duplicate Doak Walker is indeed a legend I gotta get a brain biologically PhD they say - if I'm a graduate they'll pay for it my teacher says I Dropbox better than anybody jefferson pilot insurance head basketball coach here at TCU mo IVA and Mo it was just a year ago and you had your horn I was doing everything right the boy how graduation affects things doesn't it well coach killings work did a great job with TC basketball program and they lost eight seniors and now we've got to rebuild again and hope that our young basketball team can play well this year we've got a lot of new people and it's going to be a definite challenge for us well you spent six years with the Cornhuskers at Nebraska now you come here to a horn frog program that has really been decimated by a graduation where do you begin what do you do first well the thing we did when we came in we had six basketball players left and we had to go out and get some junior college players and enough to have a ball club and then you've just got to recruit the type of players that they had at TCU when they were in the conference and we had a good early recruiting session in the fall so we think we're off to a good start well thanks for taking time to drop by good luck to your basketball team I know you're interested in this football game as well well I think JCCC is going to win they're playing awful well Moe thanks an awful lot thank you very much no I buy a head basketball coach here at TCU classroom champion is presented by GTE TCU quarterback David Roscoe is having an outstanding year leading the Horned Frogs offense he's among the conference's fest in several offensive categories off the field Dave is equally as successful and he is using his scholarship to do more than just play football you're going to college to get in his face and you're not going to school to play football and I think you need to take advantage of those four years or five years however many it takes to get a good degree and you take advantage of that and get the best degree possible wardrobe strong saftey Tommy sharp not only plays football and pursues a degree in finance he's also married and as a child where does he find time for all this you gotta have this good - that's anybody do it y'all so it also helps every wife and the kid you know straighten you out and you don't do anything to go to schools come and take care of the house clean up yeah yeah it's difficult but you can burn if you have a schedule hi I'm Dick Enberg for GTE you know telecommunications and football have a lot in common they both involve things like good connections conference calls and data communications and for their communications more and more NFL teams rely on GTE teams like the Dallas Cowboys Tampa Bay Bucs Indianapolis Colts strategies state of the arts business technology is keeping collegiate athletic departments in step with the times and through nectar now let's take a look at today's Budweiser halftime stats you know Dave somebody once said statistics are for losers and while that is not universally applicable it certainly is the case today well it is because A&M has the better of the stats but look at the turnovers for turnover Stumpf has thrown three interceptions out of his last six passes of seven passes he has not thrown a completion he's completed three of them though to the other team time of possession A&M has in favor there Am has dominated but the big thing has been turnovers the fumble on the punt and the three interceptions 14 to 10 our halftime score the Horned Frogs over the Aggies that's today's halftime stats being brought to you by Budweiser okay now the first thing you do when cleaning fuel injectors is to make sure you have plenty of Conoco unleaded gasoline yeah when it goes realated gasoline's with powers system minion spray laughs so your car runs smoothly and then you screw up with more power any questions yet power scrubbed with Conoco unleaded gasoline they wait and they shape the desert sands all team together to do one thing top of the Mongoose McEwen at his towards power saw so clears course is the one both of us work and we live pretty good yeah but if I suddenly checked out I still want Helen to live no-no-no I'm hanging like keep the house no get the kids through school maybe take a vacation once in a while right what happens to you if I check out Pennsylvania at the Nittany Lions in the Fighting Irish tied at 14 and Ohio State taking dominance over that Michigan team in the third quarter playing their last game for head coach Earl Bruce Indiana thrashing Purdue 21 to 7 in the second quarter and Tennessee of course losing right now to Kentucky Tennessee 15th ranked in half and Iowa at home against Minnesota they are tied at 3 and of course today is Bowl invitation day all across America that's a look at scores around the country here in Fort Worth we're getting ready for the second half kickoff accommodations arranged through Fairmont Hotels whether traveling to San Francisco New Orleans Dallas or to their newest hotels in Chicago where San Jose American business is stepping up to Fairmont now midway through the second quarter Darren Lewis of Texas A&M on a run hit his knee against the head of Toni partly his right tackle Toni partly was carried from the field and then moments later was loaded into an ambulance during halftime and was taken to a Dallas Fort Worth Hospital and we will make every effort to find out the condition of Toni Bartley the senior out of Decatur Georgia and one of the things I have heard we just heard recently was that they were taking him there for observation and some x-rays but let me say this a good sign was that when they carried him across the field they had him sitting up and that was a good sign I did see him moving his arms he's moving around I'm sure he's sore but they just want to take all every precautionary measure you can there was another man who knows the meaning of the word sore he was knocked on his keister three times in the first half Elayne talent a all-state kick her out of a West High School a gold mine with a pretty good win to his back we'll kick it away 4 a.m. and Phil there's a great tradition here that people talk about with anm and that 12th man on the kickoff 1921 evidently they brought a man out of the stands and said hey we need some players and he lined up he didn't get the play but it started tradition jackie sherrill brought that tradition back and now these guys that cover on this field go on this kickoff team they're all walk-ons none of them have scholarships Reggie Davis watches it bounce through the end zone and the frogs with a 14 to 10 lead have the football at their own 20-yard line and I do want to clear up one thing when we looked at that kickoff that is a home tradition I want to say that that is a home tradition and that shows you what the Frog drives looked how many times they have had the ball 2 4 6 8 10 times they've had the ball they've scored two touchdowns but it's been great defense by A&M that has stopped the Hogs I mean the frogs Ben Hobbs on the honors this guy at the 20th of the i-formation the gear Fishman conducted and he pushes across the 30-yard line Gary Jones the sophomore out of Tyler Texas ups and down but not before dark it rambles for 11 that was close Adam Bob almost had a Madame bob is 24 in your picture there he's going to slide across he steps up and just misses him on the tail end you have to make a decision when you play linebacker whether you step up or try to run around the block you step behind it it was just that much difference that's what resulted in the yard roper again and stands them up with a helmet in the chest now the center is the most important block on this running play at the center missus he gets his man you can see there now watch out him Bob 24 BAM perfect helmet right on the numbers Wow he made up for missed net tackle might have got him a little upset he says the two outside linebackers are always getting the credit Roper and when Wallace I'm going to take a little bit myself and he got it on that flow StuffIt ask you to pull back this time atom bombs partner on the inside they inhabit East took him out it was not Scott Bednarski it was Tony darted with the football and this middle-aged linebacker succeed batiste there he said hey I need a little credit to everybody everyone I'm all for more exceptional football players they wouldn't be playing for such a great team if they weren't great football players they play that linebackers position just fantastically well they're down in seventh here they come jet books watch number 27 that was a safety blitz an Rosco had absolutely no time whatsoever Chris Becker he is putting into a strong a parrot cats at the 49 yard line the Aggies with terrific field position following peckers 30 yard punt fill now they get to utilize that win day mm we'll have that win through their back they'll be able to use at this quarter raucous top 12:55 to play in the third period Texas Christian unable to do anything with their first second half position let's see what the Aggies can do a lot of breweries using ordinary tap water to make their beer here and natural yeah tor is the one manage to handle or direct with skill Rockwell International Management stimulates the work of its 120,000 employees one-in-six a scientist or engineer their elegant solutions to customer needs make Rockwell International managing high technology for [Music] early in the third period it is TCU over the Aggies 14 to 10 I'm Phil stone along with Dave row well in the second quarter amore will stay on in Austin the Longhorns have included Bret taps Baylor Bears first teens here come the engine and motion here comes out of her number 40 outside of the field that is people would side he crosses the 50 yard line before called a lot of knocks and death and fill the Aggies have had a lot of drives of their own also you can see the number of times they've had to punt look at the three interceptions at the end of the game those were during their last three to four three of their last four drives but they've had that they've been limited to other than that one drive to ten plays have been limited in the three four five has been a good side again following Jerry Fontenot and Matt McCall through the right side floyd terrell on the tackle now the Aggies they love their football in College Station and why not Dave and you lose players like Whittle at Kevin Murray a tight end Bernstein a first-round draft choice a pullback another first-round draft choice and Roger Vick and you can still compete in this conference that says something about the eggy's football program stuff is down pass intended for Gary Oliver he had two guys in his face ninety-two great Jones I didn't get the number of the other car that went by watch this it's going to go away from me you can see stuff it's a run play option now he decides I'm gonna run no I'm gonna pass and look what happens at the tail end Wow does he get hit Tyrell was in there there was several plays in there Simeon was in there on the front side now fourth down they're going for it Phil I'll stop is also the punter and he's backing up he will punt it away Philander Newton now backpedaling stop right down the center of the field a bit surprised input a sideline interesting join frogs will happen at their own 20-yard line with 11:35 to plan the period it's Texas Christian leading the Texas Aggies 14 to 10 [Music] it's one tough team to make the academic all-americans you have to excel in sports like football baseball or volleyball but athletics isn't enough you must also be an outstanding student directors of America select these special stupid athletes GTE is and as sole sponsor of the academic all-americans we're honored to be part okay now the first thing you do when cleaning fuel injectors is to make sure you have plenty of Conoco unleaded gasoline Rico's unleaded gasoline is good power scrub clean your engine fuel system so your car runs smoothly and then you screw with more power any questions jet power scrubbed with Conoco unleaded gasoline [Music] welcome back Damon carter stadium Phil strolling along with Dave well Tony Jeffery ended his college career illegally it was suspended yesterday again a situation where the Horned Frogs have had to build out their stock well that's right and I am quite surprised to TCU so well it is devastating to lose a football player with the abilities of Tony Jefferies but you got to realize there's 10 other players and we talked about the Arkansas situation where several years ago they went into the Orange Bowl suspended three of their top players and I think they set an all-time rushing record that day in the our let's go is swarmed under Dana batiste good tackle tremendous containment by the linebacker on the right side and that's batiste he is an excellent football player look at this slides along the line look never cross your feet gets out outside there turns that play back in and makes a tackle he's a good football player play solid fundamentally strong football well coach not much for tonydd our third Terry Price and Dana batiste combined after a gain of two oh it has been a long long dry spell for the men wearing the purple the last time they knocked off Texas A&M theirs back in 1872 by one of their linemen talked about you talk about revenge Wow they need they they want revenge it's hard to forget those games that have happened in the past especially last year's West most of these players both from A&M and Texas Christian were hadn't even gone to kindergarten the last time that happened Bobby Davis with the ball Adam Baba on the tackle but one thing about that feeling I want to make note of it is that great football tease everybody shoots for a great football team a.m. it's got a great tradition they are an excellent football team year after year they don't just have one great year and then fold their tent and go home they have year after year good football teams solid backups that's why you're able to recover from the losses seven seniors and everybody shoots for that's why everybody plays hard against an Oh better right off the side of his foot [Applause] it will be down at the 36 yard line an 11 yard punt for Becker and he is tops in the conference in punting boy I'll tell you that ball had to come off his foot wrong now watch his step there's a step it looks normal the drop is a long drop look where he kicks it way down now most kickers when they hold the ball they hold it up longer and bring the foot up to the ball watch it again watch how long the drop is that Becker has theirs worried let's go to the ball now look how far the ball falls and look at this body plain his body plane is way back he's not following through results are a terrible punt the TCU yes stuck by the middle linebacker before Luis carries the ball to the 26 yard line [Applause] the Aggies coming into the ballgame ranked 6th in total offense in the southwest captain here's this stuff is Altima lysing he's going for Harris [Applause] Scott's later I'll try and make it a 17-14 Paul gay man he does it till when you have a great player like Rhonda Harrison wide receiver who can get open anytime and one-on-one coverage is tough Stumpf lays it up there it's John boutté he beats just a great concentration on the ball look what he does he drops the ball then he folds his arms you might see it on talent but it's an excellent throw and it's just really right there Harris has the boy puts it in drops the ball down touchdown Harris his fourth catch of the ball game II now totals 94 yards and a touchdown it's the eggy's by three in 12 hours 10 minutes I'll be 40 years old boy have things changed look at my hair I used to have a little apartment now I've got a huge mortgage I used to own a beat-up convertible now I'm paying for three cars it seems like yesterday I got out of college now I've got two kids going in I used to think I'd be ready for all this but it's a good life jefferson pilot insurance and financial services the great american face strong the great American race plus solid with a Luca smooth straight for extra protection that weight American place deserves that great American shade actual plus Gillette the rights to the city of Houston are on the line last year it came down to one point it's the Houston Cougars and the Rice Owls next Saturday on the Raycom sports network well Phil a tail end of this watch Harris on this I don't know what this move is but this is great look puts the ball down between your legs now watch boats arms say hey you know I'm bad I really had a day today on four catches for a touchdown and there he is a happy ain't a lets it go that is Reggie Davis watching him go over his head and into the seats here at in Encarta stadium the frogs will have it at their own 20-yard line they're down by three with 905 to play in the third quarter there's two look at the scoring drive a 36 yard drive it only took them two plays to get there a total of 44 seconds following the 11 yard punt by Chris Becca just like a turnover time to do something like that it really it really hurts your team yeah it just drastically need to see results they capitalized on it they turned the ball back over and store Delaney and Delaney goes down at the 26 yard line Chet Brooks and Gary Jones combine on the tackle Phil what you have to be careful with there if you're cornerback like Andre Spencer and lavarro Crump but you have to be careful about excuse me not Crump but Gary Jones and now it's Mars is that you have to be careful that you don't bite on that play and you don't come up trying to stop that play because they'll turn around they're launched that ball Manion be too deep second down and four wiki stone the tight end is a notion that is with the football he's got first down yardage to the 44 corrington the free safety rings Bednarski down a gain of nine now you go back to the way back to 1955 TCU undefeated as they go up against A&M and it was am winning that battle it was the only loss the Horned Frogs would to have that year and that was the year that TCU had Jim Swaine connect Hutten Bowl that year old miss 14 to 13 that's birth it already over a hundred yards today and he's met by the nose tackle Sammy O'Brien both our running backs have got a hundred yard over a hundred yards Darcy's got a hundred and eleven on 16 carries and Lewis has got 112 on just eight carries so both running backs are having both teams are having good a good game running the ball on the ground sustaining those drives barse they are two ball clubs whose success is predicated on if he's down and it is intercepted that we'll take the football what's more every coach will tell you when you get the ball you have to look it in expensive coach will tell you put your hat on the ball watch what happens to stone he's wide open there's the ball he doesn't get it quite in look at the hands in the head the shoulder come in and knock that ball out and he has had hands I mean he's got big hands there's the size of stones hands eight and a half and the four and at over four and she's across the palms but his hands have led him down today he lost that one there's the counter to Darren Lewis and he is met at the line of scrimmage by Mitchell Benson well that's a good stick I'll tell you as a defensive player you like seeing good solid line play look at the blocking combinations here as Louis come through BAM good stick right there wrapping the arms around Benson nice tackle on the play you just really it's really a pleasure for someone to sit and watch a good good game by both defenses go feed to plant good clean hard crisp football my action stomach looking nearside it is Chrissy waddle the sophomore out of coal and Jonathan and you can't have a better throw than stump just threw on this ball he went into a slump just a minute ago but watch this pass he throws it before the break and watch this catch you just cannot throw the ball any closer to the sideline you can't throw it just any better than that he was well covered waddle look the ball in but the ball was right there are you suggesting stump was in a slump I said that didn't I he was about seven or eight passes there but he certainly come back out of it Louis into the eye now football inside the 20-yard line down to the 17 a six yard pickup again it is Mitchell Benson what a game the defensive left tackle put TCU is playing and Darren Lewis has been a busy busy young man he is down on all fours getting up rather slowly you can see his result there ten rushes 118 yards that's eleven point eight yards per carry that's quite a day I think he just fell on the football and kind of knocked the wind out of him Keith Woodside the senior running back out of Vidalia Louisiana number 33 is I'm running onto the field Louis talking with jackie sherrill now you see the shadow of the upper deck here at a McKinnon Carter stadium beginning to creep over the playing field Oh scoffs slam down Andre Spence miss but left cornerback wouldn't feel for a sec you know he was man Llewellyn was in there to Llewelyn slides along the line good play almost bites there comes across plays across the face good play hooking of all three of BAM turn him around that's when you walk back to huddle you say somebody's got to get that guy in the middle but Wow good football player well and Onuki about six inches away from his eighth interception of the year well that was awfully close Newton almost caught this ball on the run if he had he would have gone a long way the ball is batted up there now watch Newton he's number one look how close he is he just about catches that thing in stride now we'll see the ball get tipped right there that's Llewellyn and there comes Newton into the game into the play he almost comes down with that Slater trying to add to the Aggies County from 34 yards out Scott slitter yes at his second field goal of the afternoon up the clock of 531 to play and it's the Aggies have uh six over the white clogs this is live in hey boy how you doing hey pretty good Joey how are you hey I thought we were supposed to be doing this in-house we did new computers in Thailand now Allah says hey give me a break well Seagal did that but he's in the LA office no saws upwards you did the graphics so how'd you get everybody together in the same place pardon me from the bandholz to the swimming pools to the classrooms the University Interscholastic League has provided a showcase for the gifted and talented students of Texas one out of every two Texas public school students will meet rigorous scholastic requirements in order to voluntarily compete in the UIL academic athletic or fine arts events support these outstanding young men and women in your community because they are Texas's leaders of tomorrow [Music] rain Talbot their handles the kickoff duties for jackie sherrill Scott Slater handles all of the kicks that score points great one has a lake for distance one has Robb's may have a return here from three yards out it is rot his car William Thomas with a good stick on Rodney Higgs while the Aggies tremendous kick coverage they play outstanding defense and their offense has also played price recovers at the 4-yard what a shot on this play I think it was John Grover what's 83 that's John Roper now we do have a flag but maybe we see it look right here Pam next to Paul flying out there was a flag on the play and they have to see what that call is you can see you well it's a bit confusing TCU when they occurred thank you the ball is picked off by AMM they will retain possession I did not see any indication by the officials as to what the penalty was I didn't see it either and I think it would be something that happened after he came off the sideline we may have to get a ruling from the official after what happened but they are going to let a.m. care then keep the ball but they marched off a big penalty and out as being announced over the PA system unsportsmanlike conduct diet did not see any indication by the referee and the i-formation the Aggies with a chance to perhaps blow this one open where this Belvedere zone Wow John boutté is playing this ball all the way he's zeroed in I did see Jim laughter though he's upset just like Jackie Cheryl was on the last play he's upset on this play and looked as if pootie had played the ball just perfectly the last second they threw a flag and they called passing appearance against him that is a big one look what number 11 that's booty there's the pass now where this booty come in here there's booty running you can see the receiver go down now watch right here maybe we see it right there you see the contact he looked as if he tripped over the standard on the goal line boy booty certainly not in a position it did not seem to be charged with pass interference we're gonna try and look at that one again poorly toll they're first and goal Darren Lewis he has met head-on by Floyd Terre landfill and a Newton take a look and you be the judge at home now watch this to think now look right there you see the receivers out of bounds now booty may have made contact with an optimal account there if the interception I thought I saw the flag come in right then I saw the flag come in at the tail end Wow now you're allowed to chuck them and you allowed to run with them and you have a right to the ball as a defensive back but you cannot interfere with his progress downfield evidently that's what the referee saw and it is complete intended for Percy Waddell exceptional coverage by John boutté at the goal line stuff looking for yet another interference column you won't get it a flag is down way across the field at the 8th and I think it's going up against the Aggies at least that's what Andre Spencer the left corner is saying illegal motion against him the booty came back and played deck Bubba what have a flag day out here shuffle forth this isn't Flag Day is it would taste like though that's Memorial Day huh I know that now if you play that smart you'd probably decline the penalty because they didn't gain any yards you will bring up third down and they've got third in about well it's not about six yards to go they can stop a mere Hold'em to a field goal try that be a big boost for TCU boy a year ago Jackie cheryl's Aggies humiliated Jim like this farm frogs to the tune of 74 to 10 third down Walden right throws and it is better pentathlon image by tracy Samia when you have big linemen in your face like number 56 see me and he puts the hands up it's like throwing through the woods look how high is it's not the fall the stuff he had his wide receiver open it looked as if and hit him right in the face mask kinda like putting her head on the ball Scott Slater from 23 yards on the chance to go 3 for 3 on the afternoon and yes he has gotten the job done for 19 to play in the third period it has been all in the second half in front of the hall 23 to 14 travel arrangements made through Eastern Airlines whether you're traveling to Florida for business or pleasure chances are Eastern has a convenient flight going your way Eastern we've got your ticket 40,000 Plus on hand here at Amon Carter Stadium not a cloud in the sky over Fort Worth Texas a beautiful afternoon for college football of course I don't think Jim whacker and the Horned Frogs would agree with how gorgeous this afternoon is at this juncture of the ballgame no they won't one thing I want to make mention about A&M maybe we have a fun we have a final score come up here someone just now this score just in the ball game is over and Penn State is upset the seventh ranked Fighting Irish 21 to 20 Notre Dame missed a two-point conversion with less than 20 seconds remaining in that ball game and you have to give credit to Lou Holtz for trying for two points you don't play the tie in this league and play to win and he tried to win with 30 seconds left went for the two points they were stopped in Penn State one Reggie Davis oh let it go over his head out of bounds the frogs will have it at their 20-yard line the one thing I was going to make mention with about that Am's defense you know defense we talked a lot about their defense being as good as it is the one statistic that is unbelievable in college football is if they've only had 34 points scored on them in the second half of all these football games they are an outstanding football team in the second half 34 points only scored when you take that an average that out over nine games that is allowing your opponent's three and a half points a ballgame in the second half and that gets down to one condition faithfuls come tonight and he doesn't have much want to remind all of you watching the game that at the end of this afternoon's ball game Dave and I will be selecting the crews player of the game or stay with us [Applause] a gain of two Ford our third he moves the ball out over the 22 yard line but Dave you talk about how stingy the Aggies defense has been in the second half how about in the fourth quarter they're not there yet we will be in two minutes and 47 seconds in and out of the hands of Wayne Watty and the fourth period Texas Christian has scored its opponent 77 231 they've had those too late flurries in the last in the last two games they have really come back they scored I think three touchdowns against Texas Tech and lost that one in an unbelievable football game 36 35 then last week they came back and almost beat Texas in the fourth quarter so they do get done cranked in the fourth quarter but quante going against A&M it's tough to get unpacked in any corner and the inside pickets at poker they shuffle pass it's a shuffle pass the quarterback drops back right it's a cheap pass now what's ended segments of this he drops back like it's a pass he lets him in shuffles it underneath to see the defensive lineman turn there I've actually they are behind Dartmouth in between DAR third and the quarterback any change just flips the ball on their hand boy that's a play that it takes a lot of guts to run it but if you get it off it goes very very well gets the football justice Sammy o Bryant was all over David Roscoe Roscoe is fortunate to get that ball into Darth ins midsection I'll say Sammy O'Brien plays the nose tackle as well as anybody look at that he's in there he's got a hand on him he oh look at that the ball came loose the ball bounced right back in Darth his hands wow is that lucky but I am really impressed with Sammy O'Brien did the 34 defenses ever played in professional football he can really play rasping does a nice job of picking his way to a little daylight at the a.m. 47 yard line Terry price on the tackle with help from Kip car engine a gain of five until let me just finish that point about Samuel Bryant and nose tackle you take on more blocks and that nose tackle you're playing against an uncovered guard on each side you playing against the center you get a lot of crack down blocks you got to slide the line you can't get knocked down you can't get driven back because of a middle linebacker it is a truck key bunch of line play the food play the play and he plays it very well that's darker let's tell you what Rob Adams and Jeff Hopkins are having a heck of a time trying to can Oh Brian price and Aaron Wallis watch Oh cryin let's see if we see him he's number 90 look you got to play across the face don't get knocked down scramble get your head in there try to get a foot at home Nora I'm going to tell you that is great play that not to get knocked off your feet because you have to play across the block of the sinners head it's Gragas down quicker is was an appositive 16-yard John look well I believe ruff Chris Becker I thought the pump was partially blocked and from where I heard in my headset they sounded as if it was partially but it really did I thought I heard the double hit yes where he hit the ball with his foot and the ball hit a hand and if he did in fact make contact with it then it's not roughing the punter and the official is picking up the flag now what's the tail into this look at row please going to come from the left ear screen there he is does he get a hand on the ball no he does not I don't think he did he just came into the putter e oh boy there's the flag light on Beck his shoulders that is a great pitch what a picture from our crew the penalty was against Chris Becker for faking Oh you rarely see that or was it no I think it's roughing the punter I believe it's you up in the punter shot it because the offense of TCU is in there Phil it's roughing the punter he can touch the ball that's exactly what the call is Jared Delaney her I want to point out great concentration there by Gary Jones left corner back who's guarding round who's guarding Delaney on that play he's had five or six out patterns where the with a running heavy receiver just goes down about six seven yards and curls out and catches that ball but he's disciplined where he doesn't fight on it because the lane he'll turn that thing up and he's feet deep if he does except on headline at the 17-yard so alipin the hunter club against Ron Walker has given the frog's life here with a minute 39 remaining in the I really thought Roper had that ball and I watched Roper I don't know how he missed it Paul evidently went underneath his hands because he was right in there his momentum of course carries him into the punter but I thought he had blocked it I thought I heard the double hit just like you did Austintown like Gary Jones Delaney had a step and a half on Jones Roscoe's past about a yard short concentration is the name of the game and have watched this Gary Jones I just said he didn't fight on the up pattern watch this play one hand high to knock it back Delaney is right behind him what an excellent play by that cornerback Kelly Jones while they're making a living out of this miss shuffle pass the dart they're David's work four or five times again it's another shuttle pass where you let the linebackers in flip it underhand the DAR third just amazing Edna watch as he comes down let the linebacker come in and click the right in front of him to dog food last book peeps and vessel Jackson the junior out of Hammond Louisiana on the tackle and filled with a lot of teams this would be a gimme in this situation you're on the six yard line you got first down but when you're playing a team like am this is not a gimme they don't get all points they don't call them the wrecking crew for nothing then they have wrecked a lot of offenses Reggie Davis bringing the play in Roscoe will have to hurry or risk using a time hour inside nine eight seconds left on the 25 second clock or they just get the snap off talk about cutting it close rascal had one second left on the 25 second clock this is Italian place just cristiano in this way with 22 seconds raining and the cleared period it's a.m. over the horn frogs bike - and rascal makes a quick decision on display down the line look there there's the option now he sees the slab right there he makes them good mood lowers his shoulder dies and stretches that ball in good decision not to flip the ball now watch this he has a chance to flip my family says no there's a scene gets a clip blocked by a couple others up back says 88 is in their foot blocked by Reggie Davis and he gets that seam and goes in for the storm and there goes the horn block up into the state 60 rushing touchdown a year from today is going to have some decisions to make when Scott ank them comes back you'll have David Roscoe who will then be a senior what to do what to do but jackie sherrill his concerns and perhaps more immediate he's looking at perhaps a cutting bulb it oh absolutely he's in the thick of the cotton ball race has got a great chance to go to it and you know the interesting thing about A&M is that they are a young football team he has said that time and time again he said hey we're a young team we've got a lot of young kids out here and I say kids worthy quotes around them because I don't consider seventeen and eighteen year old kids adults but really they are they have a great tradition they've got a lot of great athletes that are coming up and recruited out of high school following in that great am tradition Wow I'll tell you one thing these football teams both have got just great things lying ahead for them keep in mind TCU scored against the wind they the wind to their back for the last 50 minutes of this ball fair catch call for at the 15-yard line Percy Waddell gives a.m. the football at their own 30 yard line with 22 seconds remaining in the third period there's mr. Trammell and he's been in this game a bunch as me he's played against these A&M players he knows what it's like this the lineup look at that quote we haven't forgotten last year or the year before the year before that I think it's time to settle up he'd like nothing better than just getting a chance he's got to be excited about this score they're still in the football game why are they ever the Aggies with a two-point lead the stuff is gone their field and it is knocked away by grace better Keith Woodside the leading receiver on A&M was there but Andre Spencer I'll tell you what he was right inside on that coverage he really was Spencer's playing the middle of the field and what he does is he's looking at stumps eyes stump has a tendency as I see it to kind of zero in on his wide receivers and not look off he picked up Woodside for about 20 yards downfield he had zeroed in on him and decided that he was gonna throw a film and nothing was going to change his mind that's the time of a in the third quarter 15 seconds it is second and ten there's the counter Karen Willis the flag is down Lawrence the 32 yard line and I believe this one's coming back oh boy and jackie sherrill is out on the field oh is he upset I think it's going to be a holding call where that flag was thrown is is almost always a holding call and what a disappointment for young mr. Lewis to run that far and have such a great play to be called back for a holding call oh boy that's the kind of ones where you walk out you say the official said what did you see he says I saw hold him here cook but what a day Darren Lewis has had I think they're called they didn't call a hold they call the trip on that play that's the signal that I saw when they put the foot behind the other one we may be able to see this watch to see if somebody leg whips look right there now right there see the left corner of your screen you see the foot up there that's the kick it's a leg whip and that evidently is what they called see the kick right up there hi didn't really have much much to do with the plane but that's evidently what they called that's that's the type of play that they could have called on that it's one that when the offensive lineman gets thrown aside and he whips his legs around to try and trip or that really has to take a lot of the wind now this am assault because they just have broken the game open with that run second and 25 two seconds remaining in the third quarter he's got rathaus is out of bounds at the 39 period we'll be back with more exciting football right after these messages from your local station get money for your old car pick apart will pay big bucks with that old clunker in your driveway think of our face top dollar for Nikki MakerBot coronoid semester chicken farm will dispatch the truck right to your door and pay you to take it away call pick up right now at 2:00 to 5:00 4714 and get top dollar for your junk car buying hours are 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. remember pick apart will pick it up and pay you for it call two to five 4714 pick apart we pay you money you don't become a legend overnight you have to work at it to it right and and again tell us what people have come to expect we know the best steaks are done to perfection over 20 years the legend in stake 39 cage TV Houston while we were away Texas Christian was assessed a 15-yard penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct following that pass completion to rod Harris now at the ball at the horn club 45 yard line where it is Christian 10 that is the Larry Horton the clock in the end zone has not been reset starting the fourth period of play it still reads zeros and we're still going the same direction yeah I want to say one thing on a defensive plan early that can't end a quarter I don't believe for the defensive penalty you don't end you get one more play now they're gonna roll it up to 15 there we got it I think the old defensive players remember that kind of stuff well it's just like you can't end a game without a deep fount of defensive penalty that's the same adage that was happened in that situation well I do it did halftime that that was certainly a halftime at the end of a game but I did not think that applied at the end of quarters but I quickly guess that because of the way I just saw it now the Horned Frogs Dave will have the football with the wind at their back they're only down by two points and you get the feeling that the folks here at Amon Carter Stadium are sniffing for an upset well they obviously they've got a good shot on an upset they really do played a great football game against a very good football team a and M is obviously one of the two teams that is going to be in the Cotton Bowl so they have plays very very well but am [Applause] to remark about the the poise that they had on that drive to hit that out pass when they got that big penalty brought that run back usually at such a psychological disadvantage but they've got great poise on their offense sucking down Aaron Lewis fund at the ground by Mitchell Vincent in Floyd Terrell a gain of four for the Aggies [Applause] I am after their sixth consecutive victory their last loss came in Lubbock Texas Iran or a calm with a wild ballgame unless that really was but it shows how this team has matured over the last four or five games a lot of question marks going into that but there was a lot of maturity it's been developed over this last there are my Floyd tear all the pass intended for Larry Horton out of the backfield with what Stumpf has been under pressure all day long that's what you try to do to a quarterback you try to disrupt that timing to see you has taken a lot of chances they've brought a lot of linebackers terral's come a lot Greg Moore Lewallen has been in there they've stunted a lot in their front line trying to disrupt that anytime here at a real disadvantage and it's hard to play man on man you've got to do things to disrupt the continuity of the offense and that's what they've done with their quarterback just rushing in there pores don't out dropping back way this one will find the end zone and you under again stuff has done it three times in this ball game going to the sidewall the vlogs will have the football with 1407 remaining at the ballgame they trail the Aggies by only two [Music] [Music] what a trip to Honolulu hula ball would stay at the beautiful Ala Moana hotel into the coca-cola Southwest Conference super pen sweepstakes at your neighborhood Kroger store or participating supermarket entrepreneur one who assumes the risks of business Rockwell International managers have the entrepreneurial freedom to move through the maze of business challenges with advanced technologies and innovative quality products Rockwell International entrepreneurs get results fans you can win a trip to the Cotton Bowl or the grand prize or took to the hula bowl until the airlines you'll stay three nights and four days at the beautiful automata hotel just stop by your nearest Kroger store or a participating supermarket and enter the coca-cola superfan sweepstakes first down at the 20 yard line let's go come on near side he's across the 23 out near the 24 Adam Bob on the tackle third quarter statistics take a look this one is as close as the score would indicate where you can see the number of turnovers and they've they've kind of equalized themselves out now for nine turnovers in the game time of possessions nothing out of the ordinary yardage rushing it's just a good football team and good football game by two good teams across the 26 near the 37 before Kip corrington ran him out and I tell you that pitch was a very dangerous pitch that was the thinker's pitch that ball came flying back at him it did that's one that you either catcher object goes out of bounds about the two yard line but he had to pitch the ball fast because the pressure was up on him so quickly boy again you're looking at the defensive unit losing seven starters to graduation a year ago defensive anurag Sabbath that's Toni directed yet still this Aggie defense has allowed Dave only 15 points a game let's show you they think a lot of pride I can remember as a player the pride you would take in your defense you know you're in a game you're going to football games you rely on your offense but defensive players take pride in themselves hey how about that score final Ohio State 23:20 these police say Sendero Bruce off with a little hoorah Bednarski literally skipping over the line of scrimmage get cranked in a John Beaufort on the tackle I thought this was a hard jump watch him number nine you don't see this fall now watch right there up and over and off we go that's a nice little run by that young man wasn't it ten prize Lesko the 44 and no more Jerry price and Aaron Wallace on the tackle I think d'Arthur took a lesson huh Bernard ski that last time he tried to jump over top to well they played that pitch well you know you have to play the pitch well to play in this conference everybody runs that veer when you dive in pull the ball out you have that option down the line so you have to play that well in order to play defense in this way you know we've talked so much about AMS defense number one in the conference coming into Dave do you know that TCU and am have the top five total defense performances of the year an M number one they allowed Louisiana Tech only 100 in two yards earlier this year but TCU against Baylor earlier this year allowed the Bears only 106 total yards in that ballgame that's why I say that they've got a great ability looking forward PC you've got some great christian jackie sherrill got some great sophomores and juniors that are going to just be exceptional put a push down he wanted to try and break it all the way well he's just a toenail away from taking this all the way he stumbles and in his effort to pick up yardage he doesn't get his balance back what's the cut great block there the nartz he picks up inside looked at the block outside there's the stumble you can see no light jerseys there they finally come in at the end of the screen but that was a good run he had been able to get his balance he could have taken that all the way in Bednarski spins inside the 23 Aaron Wallace the outside linebacker on that side Rocksmith nice keydown brawls now unquestionably within field goal range of Lee Newton they are down by two with 10 minutes and 57 seconds remaining in the ball game until I go back to that decision as we look at the clock there that's in the end zone where they're going to kick as we go back to the decision to take the win and that's an important factor because he's not going to be kicking into that skip win which is kept up his whole game second down and seven Bednarski moving the ball ever so close to the 20-yard line Joe Johnson on the tackle interesting Joe Johnson a junior out of Miami Florida his uncle Cecil Johnson played for jackie sherrill at the University of Pittsburgh okay a great football coaches recruit the sons and daughters who target I mean the sons in their cousins and the relatives of the great football players you don't forget where those four blinds go some players might recoup the daughters well no to the plan of Allah now the frogs want to talk it over the clock is stopped here comes Rascoe to beat jim wagget channel underwriting in this game it's a m5 to ow laughs it's the Super Value celebration that's one Subaru commercial you won't see the rest of what's really important is in hoopla but a great deal on a great car like over 2,300 dollars savings on a Subaru for example you can get a 1987 GL station wagon for only 98 94 during the red-hot red tag sale at your Subaru dealer test drive a new Subaru today at one of your nearby Texas subaru dealers coming into this ballgame the Horned Frogs had average 300 yards rushing without Tony Jeffery today already they have 223 and tonydd are third what an afternoon well you had to expect someone to pick up the slack and it had to be d'Arthur he has had great yardage he was averaging over six yards per carry and Arthur's got 151 yards rushing today he has definitely been the one who has picked up the slack in the loss of Tony Jeffery Tony his biggest outfit of the year came a few weeks ago a twice now near the 15 Davis running in behind Mike Sullivan and Brian browser and girl with doctor we talked about the must that the frogs had to do the wind they had to overcome the loss of Jeffery and dark nerd has done that they had to convert scoring opportunities they did score on that punch and they had to play solid defense up front that's a little bit questionable but they're playing against a great football team so the frogs have done the must that they had to do to be in this football game and have a chance to win it that nice gate he's down here they knock down there number ten we had called his number all afternoon is having an exceptional day at his free safety spot for the Aggies going he is quite a football player for the am team he is he's almost mr. everything out there the coaches say that he's one of those guys that has complete awareness of what's going on what's happening on the field he said and their defensive secondary coaches I don't think there's a better player in the country they keep pouring to me Joe Johnson the junior outside linebacker he backs up John Roper boy did he meet DAR third head on you want to see what it's like to play this is it when you take that ball and you turn that corner and all of a sudden you take a shot like that and watch him the first thing hits is the back of his jersey what a hit that is a great football stick Joe Johnson with the initial hit and then check what's placed him on there Aaron Waugh's it started about the time the football got into Tony's chest Carey Price also on to tackle for those last two plays David almost appeared as if jackie sherrill and company had ahold of the Horned Frogs playbook it looked as if it did but they played their keys well and here comes a big field goal try this will be the biggest field goal Charlie Newman's year I can promise you that because it can give TCU a 2423 lead Gilman has missed his last more attempts let's 750 poor luck in the ball game please say upset here in Fort Worth to find a high-yield investment without the risks our response the high-yield plus CD a fully insured CD with a three month bonus rate up front first Republic Bank that's responsive banking I wish we didn't have to wait on our banker when we made our decision the whole response first line of credit I'll let you write yourself alone whenever you first republic' bacon that's responsive banging the rights to the city of Houston are on the line last year it came down to one point it's the Houston Cougars and the Rice Owls next Saturday on the Raycom sports network Jim whacker is walking all the way down the sideline telling anybody who will listen we're in a purple jersey let's go take this one away what a ballgame it has been here at a man Carter Stadium look at him grabbing Terrell there let's go everybody I mean it's been such a that he spent had such an emotional drain on him it's hard to believe what has happened I mean he went from the top of the world going into this game thinking that it might be that for the Cotton Bowl they lost last week in a future run Ben's a loose Tony Jeffery the way they lost him and the way that hurt him last year when he lost the players last last year all four he is happy he's just had to hold gauntlet of emotions this past week players who spoke till they lost back in 1985 wall is down five yards deep in the Aggies row Stockton their own one thing you can be assured about as we watch them come on the field is that jackie sherrill has his team prepared he is the kind of player and I'll tell you what Jim whacker knows the jackie sherrill is the kind of football coach that has his team prepared you don't get into a situation watch jackie sherrill promotions you can just see it he's calm look at it he's got total control in his left hands he's got his hit chart he's not panicking a 201 yards and 2 touchdowns and I think a.m. is going to call timeout to try and go for 2 points that would be the smart thing to do right now as scores 29 24 if they score that two points is 31 24 the other team to go for two points in order to win that's right and you know what happened at Notre Dame Penn State today they went 4-2 and they didn't make it heads up coaching by Jackie shell that's a smart play not to get in that situation where you just run out real quick try to beat the clock kick the extra point make a mistake I told you yet complete control the game he doesn't panic he has very clear he has a great faith in his players you can see how upset Jim whack is you know he had just spurred his players on get out there and hold him no mistakes and they made a critical mistake they're looking at a man as an individual and as a ballclub they thrive on emotion here at TCU across the field jackie sherrill perhaps a bit more methodical and concepts to coaching both devoted to winning and here comes Craig's dump they're going to go for two now you know today's ballgame you will not determine who will represent the Southwest Conference in the Cotton Bowl but you'd never get that from the way Jackie Cheryl's approaching this ballgame absolutely couldn't prove it by this game coming right he drove it is now which the Aggies by seven words a time of a new for 741 24 [Music] surviving is my bin okay now the first thing you do when cleaning fuel injectors is to make sure you have plenty of Conoco unleaded gasoline yeah when it goes unleaded gasoline to a power scrub clean your engines fuel system then spray laughs so your car runs smoother and then you screw up with more power any questions jet power scrubbed with Conoco unleaded gasoline bill I want you to watch what it's like to get the bounce of the ball now watch this play Luis is 25 he bounces the ball it takes a perfect bounce right back up picks up his blockers he meant newton misses him and he is down the sideline that's the difference sometimes between winning and losing the way that ball bounced right back up into his hand unbelievable play and you can see the results there they are now then they went for a two-point conversion so roll out Pass run option he finds his wide receiver out there wide open drills the ball right in there and now we have a seven-point differential in the game Lane tablet there's the squib kick still all agree William Thomas a freshman white out of Amarillo high school in Amarillo Texas covered the bouncing ball on this way you have got to get on it if you're the receiving team you have got to get a look at 21 he just bouncing back there he's got to get that ball found on it what they hips up play by the A&M Aggies - come on down there and recover that football that changes the entire complexion of football game I just watched him set put it down dizzy all the emotion is drained out of him right now you
