last year the Vikes met the Bears on November 20th the bass prevail because of the excellence of that man number 34 Walter Payton who spent to a league record 275 yards he every time you look down at the gridiron there he was out in the open amassing yardage but tonight he must do it again against those same bike Lynn has it always seems my back man number 10 the quarterback Frances talking to me knows how to pick a defensive port always Dawkins in it aided and abetted by that man of the 44 Chuck Foreman one of the great brothers of the lead the Bears against a bike Monday Night Football 20 seconds a is a mile standby in videotape standby slow low open you mice on the field say biographic ready with drilling so first Tim I mean our Cessna booth please locate three one [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] my from Soldier Field in Chicago Illinois ABCs NFL Monday Night Football a key NFC Central Division game a Minnesota Vikings against the unbeaten Chicago Bear this ABC Sports exclusive is being brought to you by Buick who invites you to see your dealer soon and test drive one of the news 79 doings it's a treat you really owe yourself after all life is to enjoy and buy lite beer everything you always wanted in a beer and less there are the standings in the NFC Central Division at the top Chicago unbeaten in three games but it must be noted that the three defeated teams combined have only one victory among them Green Bay and a surprising three and one and the bikes who go against the Bears tonight and it disappointing for them one and two twice they've been upset so if there can be a key game at this stage of the season this has to be a key game for Minnesota they could ill afford a third law hello again everyone and welcome back to our regular Monday Night Football edition after Oakland last night where was 89 degrees we're in Chicago tonight and it will be in the low 50s I think before the night is over I'd like to take a quick look at the two coaches I think most of you know about hairy Bud Grant of the Vikings he's known basically for two things one being a stoic two being consistently excellent in the results that he has produced four times he's led the Vikes to the Super Bowl and he has had the capacity to adapt to change they've written his team off because of age time and time again but there has been a gradual influx of youth into that scene nor has he been that much of a stoic this year is that emotional outburst because of what he feels has been bad officiating that his sauce is now Neil Armstrong the new coach of the Chicago Bears a former all-american Oklahoma State who played up in Canada at Winnipeg with Bud Grant is a disciple of Bud Grant he's more vital in its personality but his approach to the game is essentially the same and the Bears will reflect that map play tonight for more on the bike dandy John America that is what as the wolves are howling up Fair in Minneapolis there they're beginning to come after our 18-year veteran old friend talking is pretty good the bikes as you mentioned it's not start off with a real good season they sandwich the victory over the Super Bowl contenders the Denver Broncos it would be two defeats to the Tampa Bay in New Orleans put ballclub and they really are kind of hollering profe ran up there after 18 years of a lot of cheers there on his back pretty good I saw television program a couple of weeks ago that prey was talking about two of the other former quarterbacks who are no longer starring and he said well that's got to happen one of these days they'll bring a young guy along and he's going to take your plate but in time that got to will suffer and hear the boos of the fans brand after 18 years has seen a little bit of all of it he's playing the Bears tonight and in the papers up in Minneapolis they say you know targeted leads the leagues and all of these things most pass is completed but did they know they also has the most passes completed behind the line of scrimmage that may be true may not be true I don't know against the Bears in 23 games he's completed something a little bit over 4,500 yards for about a 56% average he's thrown 34 touchdown passes with 24 interceptions but this year he's throwing only three touchdowns and nine interceptions he's not having a good year and I think the Chicago team is going to really give them a pretty good go point what do you think we hit a few facts in your dangers well I know don't give me a lot of mystery you'll never trouble you at all the Chicago Bears well they're all fired up they have a very young football team a very good football team they made the playoffs last year for the first time since 1963 basically they are still the Chicago Bears they come at you it come out of the ground then they are have a history of that there are rough tough football team of course going back to the great leader Papa Bear halis who is sitting right behind us in his own booth looking rather well tonight we're glad to hear about that the quarterback Bob a Bellini he's not an artistic genius to say the least but he gets it done he's a fiery sort of a quarterback and he picked up a little help just before the start of the season in golden Richard's out of the left a fine receiver from the Dallas Cowboys number 83 and of course James got a speedster on the other side but the key man is Howard is already touched on is Walter Payton Walter Payton is probably if well he is the best runner in football today until someone comes along to displace him he can do things other football players can't he's had a slow start he hasn't had to run over 16 yards we're looking for a lot of runs from Walter Payton tonight because he is that kind of football player a well-rounded team a very young team they go against a veteran Minnesota Viking team they think they can unseat them we'll be back with the kickoff from a sellout crowd in venerable old Soldier Field Chicago over 57,000 in the new configuration you're looking at Bob Thomas of the Chicago Bears he will kick off P for the Minnesota Vikings number 87 Kevin Miller rookie out of Louisville a specialist in returning kicks something the Vikings have not been doing well this year it is a windy night the ball has just blown off the tee Bob Thomas will set it up the Chicago Bears undefeated we might point out that while they are undefeated the teams that they have defeated have won a combined total of one game a Minnesota Vikings however off to a weak stars they lost to New Orleans they lost to Tampa last week and in between they beat Denver [Applause] Thomas drills it to the goal line and this is Kevin Miller and Miller up over the 30 yard line to about the 32 yard line where Minnesota will take over first and ten their quarterback ran Tarkenton apparently unconcerned about all the comments being made about him he's been around a while the setbacks Rickey yard 34 number 44 Chuck form and wide receivers 85 Sammy white Ahmad Rashad number 28 is on the left side most of the time the tight end starting tonight Bob Tucker number 38 a veteran offensive line too real fine tackles maybe the best in the business on the right side that of course Ronnie arey first and 10 33 yard line of the Minnesota Vikings and goes in is young and young finds an opening and slithers forward to about the 37 yard line it's a gain of five second and five offensively Tom Hicks made the stop he's in the middle number 54 as you look at the front for Mike Martin Stein on the right side 73 rye dolts Osburn Tommy Hart acquired from San Francisco and he's provided the past for us the Bears have not had look at the linebacker you just saw a moment ago and Hicks has been one of the keys that middle linebacker and they're into defensive secondary is talking today the bikes up on second down and five it's his Foreman and Foreman out close to a first down I believe he has it beyond the 43 yard line hit there by Doug Planck two consecutive rushes by the Vikings one for an apparent first down yes it is they're moving the sticks now and that's been a telltale failure of the Vikes this year there's been an imbalance between that rushing and passing game they've been passing 40 and more times per game on average no team won a game in the NFL last year passing more than 40 times in a game on first and 10 ball to short a 44 yard line [Music] Ricky young follows form and finds an opening and young is out to the 49 yard line he'll get about 5 out of that it will be second down and 5 duck plank made the stop and the Vikings of course have had their problems principally because of turnovers Tarkenton with nine interceptions that's incredible for him 76 when he took the Vikings to the Super Bowl he only threw six and essentially the entire season they have also turned it over on fumbles a number of times that is not the Minnesota Vikings that what grant is directed over the years to so many successes second down they mark it just short of the 50 Ahmad Shah top of your screen with Sammy white you go aside and Ricky young host to another first down this telecast is presented by authority the National Football League is intended for the private use of our audience any rebroadcast a rather use of this telecast without the express written consent of the National Football League is prohibited we'll have another measurement and Fran is keeping it on the ground exactly what the Minnesota game plan is incidentally you remember Big Ed White the offense of God traded to San Diego for Ricky young Michael in the general minute of the bike he's telling me today but not only is friend getting it he's going to get from the local press up that aside he traded away a chance for the Super Bowl with his wife well he says if I did that how come the judges are wanted grant just jeans coat it's like a quick shot at the last play we'll see that George Foreman does a lot of other things besides rock George George George male on top the hex that fell on number 54 I think there is a element okay here in Chicago George Foreman did a lot of things do if you don't we couldn't block Tom Hicks the Flying Tigers and a pulverizing puncher again right up on top you know Foreman over there 44 came through there did bit before that's what it wasn't a good block short yardage offense you saw how much inches for a first time well and hurting over the top is mr. Acrobat himself Chuck Foreman flag is down at the line of scrimmage that Foreman who can do so many things so well he doesn't have the blazing speed he never rips off the long runs but he can twist and turn like a plastic man he's quick Frank he's timed for only 4 9 in the 40 like unlike many of the great runners in the league but he is so quick last year that le bends you twist the body around and obviously the call going against the Bears here is offsides first down Minnesota inside the 42 yard line of the Chicago Bears breezy cool night capacity crowd this town of Chicago fired up about this young team is undefeated yes firing up through Ahmad Rashad Rashad Rashad collection and around the 33 yard line covered there by Terry Stewart and Gary fencing in fairness to talk antennas had all the local criticism that Dunn was talking about we have seen his receivers consistently dropping passes in the Monday night game against in but that was the trademark of Sammy white and Rashad today Rashad told me I don't know what's been wrong but it's not my eyes I do wear contacts but I can see the ball I'll prove myself all over again tonight we shall say Rashad gets nine yards second down and one well inside the 33 Ricky I'm going to play action fake stalkers in what six things at high ten to / 71 I got it sexy he gutted Sammy white on a perfectly thrown pass working deep down American essentially secondary man virtual library but he also had dairy Schmidt over there Duke ranked number 44 and Smith trade markers that he visited quarterback is to play very deep you'll see that started this off with the play-action pass fake in the middle pretty good fake the ball is just right in there perfectly that's not a real bad defensive coverage he had a step only ball was right there there's six so har curtain answers some of his critics on his second pass of the night a 33 yard touchdown as Rick Dan Meyer it's the conversion seven or nothing the Minnesota Vikings with 12 11 remaining in the first quarter let's watch Sammy white is amazing speed he thought did from that slight motion he comes in you'll see number 44 right there Terry spent they just completed the balls were shot in front but earlier spent it goes back about 12 yards defense a little bit through d4 that had to slow down a little bit that's just good concentration by Sammy kept his eye on that ball and made Dixon we're going to come right just uncle Minnesota aspect quickly 33 yard touchdown pass Fran Tarkenton Sammy white sets to kick off Mike win would build it bobbled by Mike Morgan the rookie from Wisconsin picks it up and gets under way and finds an opening flag is down at the 30 yard line and so is Morgan and while we figure out the penalty let's take one quick look at it there's some question in our truck whether Sandy white at both feet in we'll take a look look here and see if we can determine one of the things that was brought up to this intermission was it boy looks like Schmidt was right going to be there he has that one foot in no question cub touchdown no question well it he was knocked out by the defender and it point out if that is the case then it is the completed ball he was in their belly number 57 course sound holding against Reeves of the Bears that it moves the Bears back to their own 20-yard line Bob Avelina the quarterback number seven caitli is 34 roll of Harper is 35 both doesn't come into this game 240 yards rushing degree is in motion he's one wide receiver the Balder paper left side and it comes in forward to the 24 yard line saw the set back to golden Richards as I said one wide receiver James got 89 the other Greg Latta 88 one side in questionable offensive line they're young they're getting better with each game taxing and sorry are good guards are a couple of good guards in there Frank and justly they are young but they're they open up some holes in there and get out in front of Dayton and Harper and they don't need much of an opening for Walter Payton second down and six in our current gets the call our pair upended and the 30-yard line he's close to the first down of Libya have an unusual statistic that you have two running backs that have exactly the same yardage and that's what Payton and Harper had coming into this game was 204 yards or piece you saw Payton lead the way and we just kind of picked his way moved on outside but is that just right out that almost first down Bob a Bellini is record a market just short in a 30 so it'll be inches to go on third down Robert Earl comes in Errol comes in as two wing back pod and a Bellini carries it himself and a flag is down what's troubling the Bears coaching staff is that Chicago has lost a lot of its rushing efficiently as we wait for the call on this indication against Minnesota it'll be a first down either way and of course penalty will be walked off because this is a five-yard assessment let's take a quick look at this Minnesota defense outside on the defense under 54 first down Fred McNeill jumped across these a linebacker as we look at the front four of the Minnesota Vikings and those are your linebackers in the middle Jeff seaman he's one of the best around the secondary a lot of wisdom back there as you notice Paul Krause is not starting night Tom Henin starting a preface across it was one interception away from the all-time NFL record amania first intent as the time goes out to golden Richards and Phil wise and a flag goes down lies in protecting why's the fall when Richards all arrived at the same moment looks like me break up here we'll take a look at the Vols a little bit on the throne and old golden riches there tries to make a move back in for it and when he did absolutely had a bill center parents number 29 on a defense for sound I think you're exactly right done I think it is a penalty goal up thing is that Wyatt came out to the ball too but he can't really interfere with that receivers right to catch the ball first but the golden was coming back to on him because golden sensed an interception by wise that would have been an easy touchdown first and ten ball at the 43 yard line of the Bears the Vikings leading 7 to nothing Parkinson 33 yard touchdown pass savvy white rollin Harper cuts back - opening and get over here 8:09 rollin Harper nifty running highly underrated of course you would be playing in the backfield with Walter Payton right but now they're doing exactly what Neil Armstrong has been looking for I said before they were down 70% in there rushing efficiency from a year ago on earning only 3.86 yards per carry in fact they've lost up tilton tonight more ground relative to the NFL than any other team on yacht for us which is unusual for a team with wallop it second down the volatile 49 yard line the Minnesota Vikings a little more than he are to go for a first federal representation Harper gets the call and is hit over the right side Alan page sliding off the block of Noah Jackson along with Jim Marshall made the stop short of the first down there's some gray beards in that line for Minnesota Jim Marshall every time he starts a game he sets a new NFL record this is his 250 fourth consecutive start for the well Minnesota Vikings the Cleveland Browns of course before that he played a little up in Canada [Music] [Applause] third down about a yard and a half to go for the first down our fur left side our prayer first down our fur actually while he came into this game is 240 yards is saying that Walter Tate was averaging almost five yards in the tip while Payton having had a gain of more than 16 yards averaging a little over three yards a carry the Bears are one team that have complained about the shortened preseason period and they particularly point to Peyton's result they really didn't play very much played four plays I think in the first preseason game and played a couple plays a second preseason hurt his shoulder I feel he really hasn't had the work that's necessary to get this deep for Kristen 10 all 47 yard line of Minnesota play-action by a Bellini hangs it out we have to hurry his almost picked off down there by Nate right and a Bellini was really popped he is still down none of it got in there he's a tough kid they need from Maryland he's had to struggle to become the dub quarterback remember when Mike Phipps was brought in here apparently to become that Abilene he fought him off and he's gained a respect around the league that he did not have a couple of years ago and golden riches has given him a new dimension to another man to throw to there's Bob getting it and it now he just kept right on Sullivan as you mentioned but a way to cut a little top of him against that very target here you go Oh in Oxford the ball carry on second apply go down and finding Harper goes down up to 45 yard line in your effort Matt play flag down is on the preliminary indication holding and it'll go against the Bears we've talked often we've seen Minnesota three times already this year in about the fine linebackers they have Matt Blair Jeff seaman in the middle Fred McNeill they've got a fourth Frank Scott Studwell from Illinois who's come along tremendously well but it will not be saying action tonight holing up at number 65 there's the coil he'll not be seeing action tonight start well because of a deep groin pull nicely put the call against no taxon left guard of the Bears oh yeah second down 21 yards 40 bottles on the Bears 43 yard line 819 relating to the first quarter menon kota leading 7 to nothing this time a Delaney had four times is called enriches all the Richard [Applause] and you stopped with the 40-yard line we are sort of a first down by Matt Blair that's exactly what I meant about what golden Richards means to this team formerly there was only Jean Scott as the deep threat with the great speed as you want it again he got that ball off just in time there's a good pattern Richards came in from the white side they were in a little crisscrossing route and him come across James cleared it out gave the left all the way across take some time to get that pattern off wise this didn't keep up with it Golden's got the good speed Dallas had a lot of good receivers and we were able to make a trade they're down three how many losses grandfather had a crazy number 77 mark Mahaney and he flipped it out from a trailer and let's go there's a play wonderful things are happening those appeal well explint day night football after all a vallini reputable picked up by Mulaney he threw it out to that lair downfield I think that number 69 Doug Sutherland will be called for clipping I think they may bring it back to where the ball was picked up they think maybe he was touched down there Frank and we've got the debate now by the officials referee tonight is red Cashion I'm wondering if they think it's a forward lateral a lateral no hauling and it was indicated it would have to be against the Bears to make it a touchdown it was indicated I'm sure by air against the Minnesota Vikings 49-yard touchdown Mullaney lightining to Matt Blair and he did just correct himself the indication was ryocorp understandable with the confusion that play this is the way Oakland got off last night against New England New England spent the rest of the game coming back in winning in the final seconds of flight Chicago is going to have to show that it has the same capacity tonight that New England ad last night hey Arthur meeting up with a fire team tonight of Minnesota they're a veteran ballclub they were saying last week with all the criticism after the loss to campus Dan Meyer puts it in the air is good Minnesota leads 14 to nothing take a look at this one again aveline he bobbles the ball never gets the handle on it Mulaney because you've left in coming in but a Bellini bombs and again heads up Matt Blair you could see clearly there that it was a lateral and Blair just rambles in so Minnesota with 719 remaining in the first quarter at the 14 to nothing lead over the unbeaten Chicago where Sun as Sun Chicago with two long scoring touchdowns set to kickoff it's Mike and this is Mike Morgan and he bobbles it again and this time is not so fortunate Reggie is up there at the 23 yard line by Tom Henin all right another look at that touchdown the bottle by a Bellini they just pulled away through quickly didn't it now I think she's got it but he blows it again Mulaney picks it up quick witted Lee lateral mathematical and after that the wrong just as I said a ramble Blair by the way done is excellent feed for his eyes yes he's good he outran several of those people out there of course he had a hit startled boat 24 yard line of the bear and a better get something moving benefit of get in front of you they are done they actually undulating up in the air he go about 89 depending the great anytime news defense with the ball as a made contact with Scot preventive keep in mind an offender to lay the ball named Scott wound up here on the advice or the recommendation of the Virgil Carter who played with him in the world football league that looks like me as pass interference but I always say those things about pass interference to me he got there pretty quick if you're not supposed to touch the receiver before you hit that ball so they thought he hit the ball well what second down and ten Walter Payton Payton slide by one defensive lineman number 59 Matt larren has taken out of bounds by tom hannity so three yards you're talking as we look at both grant about James Scott who is the fired wide receiver and who thought it did recommend but in point of fact James Scott came up with the Jets did not get along with the name coach Lou Holtz who later made his name again in the college coaching ranks at Arkansas and host didn't want him around but Scott was made available in Chicago with that scouting reports and daughters recommendation picked him up he's been a temp strike he's a quality grade-a receiving her down seven three wide receivers teach Hoover comes in and Richardson Scott and open his Harper Harper holes on and he is popped there by the McCrory 9 Phil why to be shot first down 32 yard line that will bring up fourth down rollin Harper he's a little bit like Ricky young if you want to make comparisons of the Minnesota Vikings good runner fine receiver we still have six minutes and 30 seconds left in the first quarter Parsons set to punt deepest Kevin Miller - yardage on his returns as far this year that Minnesota likes to go for the block party hangs one high and Jeff Anila very wisely called for and makes the cuts at the 24 yard line a Minnesota leading 40 minute will take over first and 10 at their own 24 when we returned their Walter Payton what a remarkable record that is this young man out of Jackson State having a slow start this year there will be many miles more covered by Walter Payton before it's over first and 10 Minnesota at the bottom of our own 24 yard line [Applause] Jack Corman stumbles were five different he gets more out of nothing than any back I think I've ever seen doctor 30-yard line its five-yard hilt the line of scrimmage twist to those can finally drop by Jack Capone four yards to go his short career and it only began five years ago as being a sixth year he's over seventy seven hundred yards of offense averaging nine hundred eighty three yards rushing per season which is really a remarkable thing that the league one-year and receiving second and five rikiya foreman with a good block and Ricky young as the first sound out of the 35 to the 36 yard line good block by West Hamilton out there number 61 West Hamilton of course is the man that replaced in white who went to San Diego and of course Ricky young came to Minnesota from San Diego for head young there's old Chuck or George one of them that gets out there throws a heck of a block on Doug the phone number 55 to veteran many years 15 to be exact couldn't quite catch up with it came from behind and they picked up us Jerry Sturm first and ten for 37 yard line duck Gorman gets the call informative this time nailed the line of scrimmage the phone got it twice on that last blade down first performance well second as he fought off almost block he can finally got it from Jolly Goodrem 68 some folks is don't learn it mobile phones got a lot of years to find out yeah he really had Neil Armstrong as James his defensive lineman two or three four Gary Campbell Tom hits but concerns the home line doctors hobby harp Tomas burn like hard time these three down men second down and nine carpenter drop leg and off the farming and farming but the going under the respite gets up to the 41 42 yard line where we'll be third down in seventh it was Hicks when it stepped up in the middle linebacker they really liked him and he's got all of the things that they say they look for the speed quickness in size but their one ingredient that intuitive field of knowing where the balls you know they haven't lost the regular season games antics became his starter than a linebacker winds up youngster out of University of Illinois and a sixth-round graphic it's really made good hometown boy third down seven I thought that I could dream back to Ricky Yarmuth the lineman didn't get up to help Ricky a little on his own get got the blinders to me drop all fourth down he was stuck by number 45 a kid named Gary Clinton from yeah had some kid that entik I know something about him he's made himself into a quality player and if there is one of the total one-on-one tacklers in the league Mike would well then do the punting Steve Schubert if he's single safety for the Bears as they put 10 men on the line of scrimmage [Applause] they said [Applause] that was about four five guys if I got further away they blocked anybody here it is again this is from Mike would point of view and if whether care off nobody he pull sleep you telling me you run that back this of it is Walter Scheib that makes the block March tense was also there then comes Trammell nobody even block Walton side he was lined up right in the slot between the center in the guard the up back made the decision for some reason to go up drop-in block and nobody touched for the very found 14 to nothing the two forty five remaining in the first quarter have a big break size of 16 yard line another 14 right a wallet desert screamed out inside the ten gain of four took him down and six yep seaman made the top point aged the Bears made the break they needed get the field position they have and to start their comeback against the Minnesota team that is fired up and that took a quick 14 to nothing lead [Applause] out of the huddle and out to the left Oh Scott whispers right sucking down six they'll make the first down inside the 4 yard line Water Pik again same spot puts the ball forward but they'll bring it back close with the six yard line Jim Martha made the thoughtful would be pared down and pull it along to agitate 511 and 202 pounder [Applause] there's like a 240-pound of a good guy as he is service his older brother yeah he feel he will get chronic yeah didn't bring it all the way back but he bet a lot of other important play for the Bears Payton gets the call hurtled forward he will not get the first down it gets to the five of the fly it goes down somebody had some good penetration of the defensive for offside us both against the bikes or the if the crowd reaction is an indication that's indeed what it is that will bring up a first down there's adjusting their alignment as the Minnesota Vikings said in their goal line defense ow watch for him though rather comes in for the Bears Vikings duck to their goal line defense Robert Earl comes in number 39 he lines up with the sign in because the second tight in Mike's top is injured he could play tonight with a bit of trying get away without having played water into the end zone and the Bears are on the scoreboard set up by a block but you see knoweth doctor number 65 dick guard after this is over he knows he did his job and watching will he go through he comes in there and see the duck death starts jumping up down he says that's what I wanted I was or he did a number of our ducks under put away they executed I put him out of the ballpark well not out but he bring it down on the floor Bob common for the conversion [Applause] there's boosted in the line a whole book to movement in the life unlike it [Music] procedure Kyle will go against the Bears and that will extend Bob tamaki effort by five yards Thomas has quite a mark coming in for the Bears he's five of five in the field goal Department Mack Percival has the records that me I read that he was a school teacher friend of mine down in balance we played a link yet ten in a row field goals they declined the penalty Paul Sartre 465 on the offensive line Noah was still celebrating they declined the penalty because because what because many find it hard and a kick from at that point they find more space to her angle from five yards further out I so is the angle they were looking for Bob Thomas will give it another go [Music] another flag is out [Applause] guess what I've got outside the time because academics can also be defined [Applause] by completing 4725 remaining in the first quarter were they coming back to Chicago in a moment [Music] penalty will be assessed against the Minnesota Vikings on the kickoff that means Bob Thomas will set the ball up the 40-yard line deep is Kevin Miller number 87 there is Kevin fire Lee agent rookie out of Louisville American people [Music] [Applause] with the hefty leg and uh and zone touchback Minnesota what the seven point me will take over first content at their own 20 yard line and Tarkenton our target thus far tonight two for two in in tonight with a fire city it's just the interception then like Kenny Stabler a couple of those have been deflections correction is now three for three our genes are under 60% and at the 3-degree we took every threat 50% mark first intent the foreman a foreman hurries out to about the 22 yard line gain of 208 right now by two yards Marie Campbell down yard and on the stop on with 59 second year man out of Colorado around a little bit Gary Campbell you came as a free agent to the Bears last year but he was with the Steelers and a fifth round draft pick he got there or not the gown tree is cut there and now he started to the dairy Ricky yeah a lot of folks up front if wiki turns it upfield supposed to be 29 yard line where it will be able to third down and one Part B side wrestling over from the far side of the field to make the soccer word that what yard the Bears we had just out of the three four and comes right out there back in there for three seconds ticking away and I think that the Minnesota Vikings will let the time expire here in the first quarter they've got that way into their back this done now shake and they'll turn it around and they'll have the win and there it is that's the end of the first quarter the Vikings two long scoring plays the bear with their touchdown to make it 14 to serve Soldier Field Chicago Frank Gifford along with Howard Cosell Don Meredith it's 14 to 7 in well as a 16-game season but it's a key game I do believe for the Minnesota Vikings they are 1 & 2 on the season they have a tough schedule if you could say it well is tough right believed and the Chicago Bears will mean over the course of the season playoffs when they'll play Dallas to do that on a Thursday night telecast of ours that in the season right now the Russians had third down a long word the ball at their own 29 yard line Foreman goes outside good boo and turns the corner Frank makes the save but it's down around the 49 yard line they could have midfield he got that outside booth break they come up they came up on the outside trying to close him off look like it was Campbell made a mystery tackle pretty good block out there until he chuck it again not too much fancy trying to pull out in front you see Tom Hicks trying to get over there he didn't make it in time nice block downfield here comes fling ball resting right at the 50-yard line we must have seen that picture at Chuck forty Duke guns Brett McClanahan is in he's number 33 emotion man Sammy white Parkinson tended bar Rashad John open slightly overthrown and complete recovery there that's dogs first in complete class but he has been throwing spare and is the bikes have stuck to the ground that's really what anybody likes to do but particularly Fran because if you can get that running game going he can't little dump that little shot off and same kind of guys have been running with it and that taking very effective out second down ten all right a big deal parking ticket quickly and he goes out again this time he's trying to work as we mentioned earlier in the telecast Oteri spit number 44 and in defensive position he lines up Saudi and these Penn Yardley doesn't have great speed he's trying to protect that speed so being work over in front of it then kind of game to come up on that out and go with Rashad speed or semi white speed he got six yes that he make it sound that easy anyway well it sound it is easy to go plain work if any of it JA content has worked himself in a must-pass situation that I'll third down ten [Music] right goes down Tarkington going down in africa 40-yard line Tommy Hart made the stop and a flag and down at the 40-yard line in an area which would indicate there's going to be a holding call also a different zone the dipsy-doodle no longer Dipsy do let's go and it's interesting to see how quickly things can change in the wake of a turnover and a soda got a touchdown on it sir okay the call the declination of the penalty and then on the block kick in the turnover Chicago was set up and ever since they've had the momentum I think you know the Bears are gonna say okay they've been running poorly make the big Ron first then Rose twice and complete the third path or the quarter bucket route offense stop this is Mike wound deep in Steve sugar for Chicago the Bears go for another one it does mrs. Shubert we'll have to do it on his own from the 15-yard line so for a block but well you are not going to get an opportunity to set up your picket line it makes it a little dangerous for those receivers downfield it's 14 to 7 we're in the second quarter and we'll be right back rounding out some 7 regional games Alcorn State vs South Carolina State Boise State against Montana State and Hobart goes against Saint Lawrence all over most of these ABC stations it's all your local listing for game you'll see in your area lemare's first and ten ball of their own 23 yard line and you sit the minimus beginning to swing Minnesota at a 14 to nothing lay the barrage block to play eight count of three yard touchdown it's one touchdown difference at this point and here comes Payton again it this time initially by Allen paid they may ask a direct question in that last Minnesota series after Foreman made the long jump for the first down with Minnesota moving on the ground would you have switched to the erred on the weight talk did not just you know I just thought about that i you know i don't know i think what the idea that he was doing was trying to hit something short he didn't do it because he didn't it put them in trouble but if you got something going you really want to kind of stick with it second down [Music] yeah a lady lady Arthur Bolden richer than it could be for her sound 36.8 right pay the stop and once again a lady received some pretty good punishment and a prize went down Donnell penalty I think here I think it'd probably be called old gentlemen roughing the passer you think I think so of course wait and see if that's true that will be tacked on at the end and not look like what they're doing kind of overdoing it but we have mentioned so many times the injury factor walking a faster number 69 on the d-pad first ow I don't think they're overdoing it something just to be done to protect the quarterback as I mentioned last night the AFC has been wrecked by quarterback injury recent Jones ended in the latest Richards got the first down is at the 49 yard line of Minnesota Walter Payton and Peyton hello vertigo as he runs into Fred McNeill at number 70 Jim Marshall proving Neal did do a good job burning that back in and Jeff seaman was that that state that's exactly what they do there you turn them in and I'll go put up in the corral and I'll brendham the demon come from the middle got good pressure on the right sideline you can't see a page but Paige made some penetration there he comes held up the blocked McNeal turns it back in and there's semen coming down the line with help from Paige in the inside stop right at the line of scrimmage it'll be second down and 10 Oldham Richard goes to the top of your screen [Music] adjust Chris wiggle yeah [Applause] although a really great play by rolling off the Frank Dillon at the beginning of tonight's telecast many have seen as much John is going into this game as wallop ape is having a five year and let's play a brilliant individual demonstration watch it they bring it back to the 39 but it's worth watching again good move against McNeely on snuff Emile gasping for air and it was that Seema their demon mrs. great palette is that incredible still on his feet McNeal came back on another shot even couldn't get it where his old man finally putting them to stay down that's the kind of change of pace pattern I think Howard if you're talking they referred when the Vikings on offense when you've got a running game going the greatest thing to do is called the same kind of fact those swing fires and throughout the year sprint has done that really better than anybody that I've ever seen utilizing a path we need a very safe manner I don't think I don't what is physics our lifetime but I know that brand way over 50% so that's the kind of Fighters that control to keep our percentage up and also keep the drive going bears first and 10 39 yard line of the Minnesota Vikings the Bears down by a touchdown well minutes remaining in the first half Richards emotion the Walter Payton his best play and he sets to go Payton loves to take it to the outside turn it up field cut against the grain from so Cuellar he did his slip today and only you buddy got to be eller who has come into the ballgame for Mulaney made sure after the slip that he stayed there let's see if he falls over his own man well he's got Harper back into it yeah now then there's a fairly good block out there by Dennis lick but not gone I think he just slipped I'm trying to couple the outside in second down ten got to the left so to Richard the top of your screen Richards on motion comes a black eye [Applause] festivals are intended for James cut incomplete didn't have fun to get an out but that time golden Richards was about that's a 12 to 15 yards behind oh he was 6.51 I will bring up third down and 10 for a while family is that to the air like coming into the night's game little over 45% one touchdown but he has had only one interception yet man out of 12 lastly against Detroit and one drop is best performances the pastor so far this year they did an 18 to nothing tattoo in Detroit they did it in the air and on the ground meat sugar now wide receivers in along with Scott and Richard on 3rd again a Bellini had the time fires over the middle not very and a flag is out has to be for uh for that bump rule whatever the thing is you can see him prancing around out there on the vert side then hey wait a minute he didn't do that he hit me illegal tuck state that was Schubert maybe bump rule we might clarify I know you've heard it many times we've been following the game this year you cannot hit that receiver after he gets five yards downfield illegal contact by the defense number 25 first down de talents the guilty Minnesota Viking in the first down at the 34 yard line of the Minnesota Vikings so the Bears are coming back into this law craft laitanan New England did last night Harper our first five to little opening suspect runs into a group of Vikings Paige was a got a page at the bottom yeah he moved down the line really very quickly frankly slow that thing up at the beginning is kind of interesting and looking at the quarterback prep this year Alan page does not have one which is really unusual for him that's been his forte Chester a la go for he's off the slow start Mulaney the big only any place of Karl eller leads them with three call ever has two Vikings now cut up into three four while he hildenburg today number 58 sucking down eight lady to the air Johnny all right open Evelina delivers the golden Richards you have another bear first out I think if you watch this game you can see the difference golden Richards has made or this seems attached when you've got two speeds is the throw to like Richardson Scott you've got a whole different ballgame then you start double doubling on them and you got do trucker's but you can see that Nate Wright is giving him plenty of room number 43 that was not conceptually outstanding move on Golden's part but everybody knows is how fast he can run done they question the strength of Abilene his arm he's really hung that out there Tipton sensation and paint just five will be second to five mark Mulaney once's over there to make the stop shot of Tom Kennedy's brain over 45 came in you mentioned the top of show he's played Paul Krause has been hurt a little bit but fire word is he's really not hurt that badly anymore and Hannah's kind of moved in Krause has been around for a while too they needed some speed back there Hammonds the second Yemen from Michigan State he's quick and he's tough third round draft pick and of course Paul Krause as we said earlier is one short of the all-time NFL interception record of the late M - now now since 78 79 of course he comes taking in there's an opening oh and Irina when you see they just accelerate I think that the kind of move break that's most effective against the Vikings defense just occulta they read so quickly particularly old page page will take a move he'll try to read out real quick putting self you'll commit to one side of the block for another I got that Aten again close to a first down they'll get a measurement obviously there are two runner teams they're run past balanced the Bears that is leads the league with 2.4 rushes for each pass attempt the demon statistician as we look at the measurement just a touch shy but goodie holds to the theorem that if you're Russian outweigh your passes by that margin you're going to be on average the winning team so far the statistics seem to bear amount bears working away on the clock they got the benefit of a couple of key penalties roughing the passer a major one after a completion and attacked on for over 20 yard pick up but not really as important as that other penalty break when I go Chuck third down incomplete pass and now they started Oliver with the first step they're down short yardage Robin Terrapins Bennett idea number 39 [Applause] a Bellini on his own moves behind Dan Neil and into guards Jackson I'm sorry there's Francis can't be happy about the turn of the events we get a quick 14-nothing lead yet hate to see it evaporate this quickly there's still nine minutes to go and they want to measure again not quite sure whether a Bellini serves carrying forward we saw outstanding running quarterback last night didn't we Grogan with a quarterback bootleg he pulled it the prior week against Baltimore - we'll see that play at halftime then they all over again and I see Grogan run he really that's what he has another back out there in the backfield now when he throws yeah he's another quarterback of bears of a first down at the inside the 13 yard line of the Minnesota Vikings they trailed the Bears 14 to 7 but this day has turned around - for 14 quick ones I mean the Bears have taken charge they've held the ball for 5 minutes and 30 seconds on this Drive hold it move it on the left side looks like Ted Albrecht they go don't knowa want it or Noah Jackson illegal procedure and it'll go against the Bears boy that hurts when you get down there you've got it moving you got a first down 17 yard line changes it so much great because you've got a limited feel to work in any way oh it's limitless false start on the offense number 65 Jackson okay cap that was over now that you know they were going to pass he's setting up for past large lead off with Saturday Night Fever Scott goes right golden Richard this is to the left out of the tight end this is emotion and Richard said some of the back inside of the Indian Ocean is the guy of course it runs that motion is not as easy to make the break just at the right time to run a pattern that is that it requires timing that time he did a good job came in off the motion position made his gut cut out the outside picked up 70 yards down in this area dandy when you would Dallas into a degree they still do it didn't you always run that little flag pattern to Lance rinse don't they like to hit quick butter whatever here a quick shot inside or quick Vegas cut to the core 11 clicking out and eight the ball is the rollin Harper and Harper's take the yard it's supposed to the 10 yard line hit by Freeman brought down by also a good time to trying to slip out the back was a good running finding a receiver they can make those moves and the outside trying to get him 101 to a linebacker and let him just say okay you beat you beat him and it's awfully hard for the got a tackler rollin Harper Payton out there in an open field there are down and eight the Bears a little more than eight minutes on the clock remaining in-app billing by seven and a third and eight wide receivers victories eighty-three got eighty nine [Applause] there's quite traveling he's left Romania Victor's open and was not released quickly enough that has to throw it away Nate Allen covering visit to push into the odd lady was a rush that you got a little pressured inside that little extra turn there and through it or the ball of it late there again it depends on timing Richards made his move to the outside and Scott went then game little late fourth down Bob Thomas will come out generally speaking though a Bellini has been getting excellent protection tonight on the one big rush that's when we get the roughing the passer penalty in oughta flag down but there's quite a discussion going on at the 15-yard line number 70 declined it will be fourth down offensive holding against Dennis lick decline fourth down Bob Thomas is still out top Thomas five of five been around a little bit bangle is the holder will is that the beautiful I strangled through the holding for Thomas 27 yard attempt stop an effete Bob Thomas from 27 yards out as the Bears up to 10 devices f-14 we'll be right back bears old 14 play just 6 minutes and 40 seconds on the clock that came away with 3 points the Vikings leading now 14 10 7:45 remaining in the first half Bob Thomas has to kick deep and Kevin Miller Miller will have is opportunity for the sudden better goes down at the 30-yard line many Walter Scheib down there for the Chicago Bears I go back to that last penalty declared by Minnesota I really can't sit it shows the lack of faith in your own defense sure would have given Chicago another shot at picking up a first down or even a touchdown but it would have made for much all to kick I don't understand that done I would have accepted that penalty run when decline what do you I think that's a good point but all of the old blood decided to get that ball back first in ten Minnesota this is tough formatively Harry Campbell good these charged up he's really stoked I said before he's traveled around a little bit it came up with Pittsburgh and Foreman with his classic style of carrying the ball just bobbling once in a while but look at that now Ricky young went down lost this position when off his feet Campbell they were just depth on top of him and he's been getting some help there for those other black jerseys dude there's good pursuit after three second down 13 and he brought it into the crowd and not a screen are they kind of just desperation shot safety valve robbery could find it and that the nice thing I think really the have if you're going to have a god block user nindo screen though I'm sure daddy didn't send about the pattern he's trying to go first it's going to go to the right got the pressure with the landlord how to pull that ball and Ricky gets it out to the 37 yard line it'll be third down and three did you see fit to get him tested swap time as tell me why the three wide receivers will foot to the left let's backs in the pattern our content jump playing again by Gary Campbell that's quiz I get over the top a great move doctor fall down oh yeah look at it again Parkington had everyone in this pattern the first covered quite a secondary I think Ricky young is standing just shot at first out anyway to test see if that now he was there he had his first in but look at that move great play Campbell is having a big game touch of ballet there you have moved there Mike wood on the punt deep he Schubert single man back at the bear is going to go for it again and I get close but no horseshoe Hubert Paul floor makes the fair catch at the 30 yard line from the Bears 11 first again their own party with 557 remaining in the first half will be returning to Soldier Field after this one Adan favorite cities Chicago and event of all structure closer field built back in 1924 changed a lot over the years and you'll see some great events that title in town Dempsey Tunney 1927 SC lost the go-to Dame right here in 1927 in a crowd of a hundred and twenty three thousand gone and I guess dates in history until last September 15th than that frenetic scene and no first again the Bears they failed 1014 the Vikings Hartford and Arthur gets out of the 30 to the 32 again at 3 where will be second down and 7 next week we've got a big run Dallas Cowboys go into the capital city the Redskins one of the four unbeaten team in the league as of this moment therefore no Cowboys of three and one Cowboys lost to the ramp oh he knows the Cowboys got slowly I haven't started that slowly this year in point of fact second and seven Zach party hopes the Chicago Bears doing a fine job at the Redskins a vallini law just almost picked off by number 54 Fred McHale and receiver Scott he really is disgusted with himself Minnesota would have had great field position body has done a great job especially with the quarterback Heisman as we look at this play again he sees LR coming in there I don't it's not a happy thing to see yes sir elevate that move when the out look at that oh me unexpected applies the linebacker out of tight end I guess just to finish up on Washington vastly improved getting a pass Russell employed bacon getting great coverage from Lamar Paris and a brilliant rookie running back Tony green they're down seven the 32 yard line of the Bears inside handoff hold a hatin man a holding call I believe is coming up the back down I think they got oh no again they hit him right with a flag I'll tell ya that seemeth within there beautifully let's take a look at seaman even though the play may be nullified watch Geoff number 50 so many times we've talked about these Minnesota linebackers good clean one-on-one time for 65 on the offense going decline is because they seem anoxic in his high school coach Paul Briggs take a steel high school well Bob parsley the but Kevin Miller is deep Martin and Kevin Millar take the chances pays for to the 30-yard line I don't understand that either you see not one but two guys right on you ball kicked I effectively all my hang time in the world Calma back catch what he thought well he says they surely won't think I'll Fair kicked it out that I'll run this one back and they'll slow up a little bit when they get down here and just when they do that that's when I'll gets ball break right through that's what that's what he thought he's got a whole new school to go to make your way into a new profession first again Parkington put off when it goes to semi white he has the first down which for additionally our team has to turn into the crowd and he's up to the 44 yard line time is still not a factor 447 left and counting down in the half all the down in the world anyway well the builds and the explosive tied at two and two the Bucs of one the Bucs fell off the base the poor games behind because Montreal was busy knocking them off while the films made a with the Mets but the way things are going in this final weekend amazingly Dodgers did it bricks down tenzen asoto your own 24 yard line the cost of the rikiya gets it back this to the line of scrimmage maybe squeaked out our yard cam pro gamble Iran write-offs and pencak in the oaken Oh Big Mac Martin Stein was the guy that really got back there quick second out but he didn't like the taco but they did burn him in an injured player down Chicago Bear there's a and not identify the ng player [Music] soldiers feel this thing really is nice I enjoy this is a Burton the first introduction never got the professional football the Big Daddy Lipscomb was the Baltimore Colts in the college all-star game right here remember it well penny Big Daddy wasn't on your side that's what he was all night that was the whole thing my first introduction pro football also right here doc yeah I'm out down in the field and we'll be returning in just a moment Jim Osbourne was the injured bear that we could not identify because of his position on the field he walked off he ran off as a matter of fact so he appears to be alright that brings in Bradsher rookie from the University of Texas a third-round wrap dicted going to cure it seems to be that there wasn't much respect for his past but you could say the events of a 7 to practice Kentucky's in there defensively if I'm gripping on for Minnesota finds an opening in turns on the speed and Ricky young takes the ball inside the 40 yard line of the Bears driven out of bounds by duck plate Ricky young we mentioned before came from San Diego he was their leading rusher and receiver and receiver last year to Paul at the ferry port they had Steve Riley and Mohammed occur did a number over there Mike Harkins plan that sign they put him away and they scooted around that right in and got him a big first down 343 and in the first half came into 10 by Q Vikings over there Ricky on left side and flag goes down again gentle get to turn up a 38-yard line applying flight and another holding call it will go against the bikers we had a few penalties tonight yeah we really have and it'll be seven penalties called against the bikes thus far for 51 yards total good way to negate your own efforts yeah saw the Steelers bowling on the iPad from a 38 Bob Tucker I do use getting them down I'm saying yeah yeah yeah he was doing quite a job in her they would go right at Shira yeah and it sure as much as Hartenstein and the successful Ricky young run on the prior flight so the giving the rookie an early test neither this red McClanahan comes anywhere is number 33 first and 20 the ball right at midfield inside didn't work at another flag is down and look black or Luke went there in an offensive line right off our bottom of that pile Lacan says he's hot tonight hot what's the roughed up 335 left in the Hat trying to decide where they won't take it or not I think it's actually well first down first to 20 they're going to take it totally first down in 25 how to dig a hole in a hole motion on the offense number 78 Steve Riley left side tackle for the Minnesota Vikings that's how he was doing it he's getting off the quick start and Tucker was old enough coat them do it the table over there I get there - hurry did you come hold a ball we got him down first first to 25 ball to 45 yard-line [Music] Tarkington it was over half of it and he goes out to McClanahan hips for 47 yard-line charnot flat and fin secluding up the phone however put the cruncher on McClanahan phone fine we taught him didn't to another McClanahan but Gary sensitive a yield yes sir he's a brilliant young man he was in my class at Yale and he was determined to prove this is a kid who had the best kind of office in the world from the great finance companies because of his record at Yelp elastically but he was determined the show he could play in the National Football League and he sure has done that exactly the reason our way to do it took him down 17 July in motion Parkinson is in trouble under Thrones identified under pressure Fran Tarkenton had will dump it off it'll be third down in 17 was the big man in pursuit Ron write-offs don't play parkington's words concern right up six for 250 well from great field position after the Ricky young run first down inside the 40 they've done nothing but go backwards and do penalties you know print actually does that intentionally he does that run around for two things it shows the defensive the main thing he says it showed that the event another pattern that they not used to seeing and allow the receiver from get open word order they may not know you third in 17 Parkinson the venerable alarm hangs around the goal line we're in the air intercepted picked off by Planck at Google plunk wasn't it look at that that's as good as a button I'm sure Fran had that in mind oh I was going to you want to end with a one-yard line third down and a whole bunch third and 17 and Frances just threw a hang glider up there and said who's going to get it tell me was that what about as far as I've seen throw one in a long time it was about 60 about 60 yards not bad blank and it could have been caught by Rashad or mean it'll mean that Lincoln liber yeah the Bears and the ball now inside their own two yard line is Planck he is a kid he could have been on linebacker that's a great-looking god-like I'll be in a booth they want to be golden they were the Hardy Boys Don't Tell not to bark at Steven 2:30 remaining in a half-orc a 210 Vikings over the Bears Bears have a personal 10 their own all debate then he gets a little breathing room for quarterback five on the ladies animals out over the 8 yard line again Oh six yards it'll be second down and four [Applause] habanero in there in the short forties defense what a great man has just walked in to shake our hand number 42 a university and the Chicago Bears we're shaking his hand okay that's correct two-minute warning on the field a Bellini will move over his jack the real arm song meanwhile the defense will talk it over with but grad and we'll be back in a moment [Applause]
