hi I'm lv4 Meadowlark log homes this is an 18 by 24 single level Montana cabin with a small porch in the front where we are at today is high in the mountains about 6,500 feet elevation and the wilderness of Montana we just got here this week well last week the crew came and set the logs of the floor system in the logs and we're here with a different crew setting the putting the roof on and the windows in door so I'll do a walk or walk around and get a view of where we're at right now just starting the roof we got here drove over and got here just a little after noon today and there's our truck it was very tight getting in getting the trailer backed in I'll show a little the road over here it's pretty steep long ways back in rocky and muddy and very treacherous road this will be a hunting cabin we brought the second pickup up here you can see a a ski resort over there I don't know what that is but we're a long ways back in so here we are getting things started for the roof and the window door cut out so we've got to cut the openings to a final trim and slot them to install the the windows and doors and then trim them taking the nails out to temporary nails that held them logs together in place got the generator running the tools being powered up they put this house in a full basement the one site being a daylight walkout [Music] there's Kurt what do you think Kurt's so far this is the owner Kurt and Julie yeah so what can you tell us about the project so far it's gone incredibly well especially given some challenging roads and conditions so we're very thankful that the crews made it up here incredibly quick process very efficient crew very fun to work with I'm just very impressed and very thankful that we well thank you for that too and so we're gonna have a look around the basement you've been out Kurt had the concrete poured and the frame walls built and where our crews started was with this subfloor framing we put the framing up to carry the the floor and these I chase they spanned the 18 feet 60 inches on center and that carries a subflooring there's the underneath of the pressure treated porch joists and we'll put the decking on that yet that's not installed yet now Porsche technique so here's a look around the underneath of them joints sharing the floor there's a opening or I believe you might put a stairway down here so they go around outside it's pretty back up in here blue Montana skies there's the back end of the house with three-foot purlins overhangs to protect the house from the elements along the perimeter we install this nice white metal covers the joists the plate seals that bottom part off and there's a end of the logs log Gable let's walk around have a view from this side we've got our three other trailers all another other jobsite and so we were stretched to the max recently with quite a few projects going on at the same time we put together one of our crews and came over here to get this project wrapped up and for the weather the pan weather hits us we had a little snow last week we were delayed had to stay home until the storm blew through and then we can come back come back because roads were so bad cool rocks here I'm gonna climb up on so they get a better view of the project really cool round boulders up here on the mountain so there's a the log purlins surface they're flat on top so the lumber goes right on top of that that's the ceiling pine and then we'll show the foam and the roof covering that a little bit later so we'll get started they're finishing up the tongue and groove ceiling we've finished cutting out the doors and windows except for the splines so I'm going to go in that ladder and get a view of the inside so here we go I'm up on this rock pile I'm going to grab this ladder set up here to can walk up so there's a porch floor that's not finished yet rarely need to be installed and there are the windows so I've cut out this opening square we call it a trim cut all the doors are cut with a chainsaw the doors and windows straight trim cut so the windows finish in there there are the cuts with a chainsaw so all the cuts are made so that they should finish without any more any more adjusting Phillip is cutting done the window jambs we'll make a frame that circles the window to hold the window in the opening and that's what Philip is working on he's cutting the two by sixes to length so here's the ceiling this is a one-bedroom cabin one room basic look at the bathroom they got a lot of good windows for the view looking outside jim's the ground guy doing the board's cutting things for the guys up on the roof they got some why that's an air court but they got some wires already poked here are some wires then we'll go up with the ceiling fans and lights there's a hole up there this will be the switches right there and then the hole goes up vertically goes up into the roof system and lands up there there's some light coming out of the hole right there for wire for a light and more wires up in the roof here's a nice five foot overhang for the entry porch we'll trim those beams off square so now I'm going to go ahead and cut the spine and angle the windows what Phillip is cutting the doorframe let's take one more look see up straight uncut not too bad here's a saw I use the boys call this one Henry I'm not sure why they call that saw Henry but that's how I used to cut these these windows and doors let's checked one more see how straight I cut not too bad they've got the ends of the logs trimmed the rough trimmed they're starting to put the 2x4 spacers on top of the decking that creates it an air gap when the rafters sit on top of it so the foam spray can go underneath it I've cut two windows out with Henry that's aw poor Henry's smoking a little bit it's pretty hot from cuttings I'm gonna go take a look at what I cut out I cut the splines in the angles Landry's blade was smoking a minute ago so there I cut the group for the angle iron - going for the window and these angles air is a angled flat cut here bevels for the outside for the trim so we got that window cut like going inside here Phillip and Keaton our cutting [Music] [Music] we'll see how far we'd come tonight it's gonna be dark and a half hour well you can't get these guys to quit and just go go go we're calling this a day I've got all the windows spines and bevels cut and the roof is all trimmed in Technion ready for rafters in the morning there's a good afternoon considering we only got here at like two o'clock this afternoon a lot of good camaraderie with the guys let's get a view on top of this roof they built a fire but none of us went to it we're staying warm enough working there's a view from the roof so tomorrow we'll put the rafters on top of these two by fours and let's get a view from this pink this is really awesome up here so now it's time to head down town get some D now the insulation is being sprayed into the roof cavity this foam spray is very good insulation now you can see how the rafters are elevated on these two by fours and the Foam spray goes underneath it to make a continuous bond of insulation it'll be five inches thick we're done this is what we call roof rafters cavity where the insulation goes into Phillip is cutting the trim for the windows and door we're installing that there's a piece of trim so that's the next thing we'll get these windows trim on the inside this is day two for us for windows doors and roof and Jim Tyler and Keaton her out here doing the the porch decking they're getting the last piece put in I'm going up to see how Chris is doing on the roof foam so Chris is almost done with this side of the foam insulation and you still got to go over here and do this but this is not bad for day two I didn't get videos of the first part we had the logs and the floor took one day two days and then the roof and the windows and doors two more days so we might get done tonight we'll see Trish just got done with all the foam on the roof the boys are wrapping up the fascia that's the cedar that goes around the perimeter of the roof to trim it off one last piece there they got the railing on they got the porch deck all screwed down and there's Tyler he's a fascia craftsman which is that material right there that beautiful cedar I'm gonna go around this building and show you that into fascia they put on there are the roof vents to invent the insulation through the ridge those little round vents Phillip is fitting some cedar on the outside of the window this gets wrapped with cedar this is day two of the the roof and the window project we work with lights dark on us there's a window we just got done putting cedar on there's the end with the cedar on the roof so we wrapped the whole entire roof with cedar and all the windows with cedar it's got a view far away farther away here the homeowners we're putting in the basement windows Philip and I just got done with those two windows right there they're trimmed with cedar that's the rough fascia right there we're made way back in the boonies so we had to use a homeowners generator because there's no power here [Music] you built a fire with our wood scraps off all the trim and things there we can see the foam insulation in the ceiling that's very warm very well insulated that spray foam let's take a walk around the front [Music] they're installing the very last piece of cedar on the roof and then we're ready to sheet that the roof with the OSB sheathing and felt paper trace is foaming e right around a stovepipe hole that we framed we put in to run the stovepipe through the roof he had to foam around that get that tightened up he's getting the last little bit of foam on while it's still light we've got a little bit of daylight I'm gonna go inside and look at the windows we got them all trimmed on the inside we're starting foot trim on that window not completed yet so here there's the door that's not trimmed yet it's installed but not trimmed the inside all the windows are our affinity trim so let's check it check that out there's a chimney hole for the stove let me take this cover off the stove here that's a pretty stove small but elite the place real easily the trim is a lot of nice knotty character to the wood matching the ceiling [Music] there's a really nice piece right there beautiful we like to select would discuss some knots not just all clear there's Philip taking some measurements for the cedar trim outside I told them I'm gonna take a little break gets a little bit more video so you guys can see our progress we've got the battery chop saw the battery table saw this is what we use for trimming and a battery drill and a battery state bought nail nail on finished nail gun the white trim really offsets that the hand peeled logs got a fire going outside [Music] [Music] the Shah well Tyler cut this speaker [Music] he's a craftsman check it out Wow beautiful cut sweet back up and get a picture this farther away Montana cabin eating by 24 just a beautiful cabin we're building another one for the people in Kalispell oh we built two a couple years ago today the other crew is working there so - these going up at the same time they're very popular we'll see how much more video I can get before it gets dark well we're wrapping up they built a big fire the guys are putting the last that synthetic felt on the roof we're cleaning up and so I'll give up a overview of how this project went my son jaylen came with a crew and they built the subfloor and the porch decks or the porch framing and that took and set the logs that took two days then we came with a different crew and we spent a day and a half and we put the windows and door in and the railings and finished the floor and put the roof on so this would be about three and a half days of work from the floor through the roof windows and doors to separate throughs but three and a half days of total work so about eight o'clock at night got some lights going you guys put the tools away got the big Cummins hooked to the trailer we'll go to the motel then we'll head home in the morning going site see what you see with the finished product tools are going in the trailer tools so we thank you so much for watching this Montana cabin put together and thank you for being here this has been a fantastic experience and it's your work ethic has been proven solid and you're here late at night in the dark working and roofing and did a fantastic job it's just beautiful we couldn't be more thrilled my wife has seen a lot of pictures and she is ecstatic our kids are so looking forward to this we've created a wonderful legacy property for our family and we just really appreciate it thank you so make sure yeah thank you thank you and make sure you come by and visit us I want to I want to get up there okay god bless
