(1868) Review: PACLOCK Hitch Locks (Approved!)

all right today we're going to take a look at a couple of brand new products from paclock now paclock is a really innovative company they've worked very closely with the locksport community to improve their products and these two new uh trailer hitches are no exception to that the first one we're gonna take a look at is the ucs 80 a see we got this dude out here nicely packaged we got a bunch of junk in the bottom there and let's look at this move out of there all right uh this is the less expensive of the two locks this one is priced at about 70 they don't sell direct from paclock on their website you got to go to amazon home depot a couple other websites that they tell you where to go on their home page but anyway this is 70 bucks i got this and the other one from amazon nice little lock this is aluminum body that's how they keep the cost on this one down and it has a pin they call this the 250 pin so they have a variety of pins as well as i'll show you in a moment this one is designed to fit the widest variety of hitches so it fits all the one and a quarter inch receivers it fits e-bikes bike locks it fits yeti coolers so anyway this is probably the most widely in demand size of pin silicone covering the aluminum body and of course we have a weather protective cover over the replaceable core so they've integrated what they call their ucs cores into these new trailer hitches so pretty cool and the next one is this guy his bigger brother you know if there's one at 70 there's got to be you know higher end and that would be the shiny one this is all 304 stainless steel all the pins that i'm going to show you are also 304 stainless steel you'll notice the difference in size this one was the 125 they call this one the 250 and of course it's designed to fit larger trailer hitches two inch two and a half inch three inch that's what the longer length is designed these pins are interchangeable between models which really makes for a useful product as i said this one's much heavier it's all stainless steel same design characteristics you got the silicone cover you got the weather protective and the ucs replaceable core as well in addition to these two guys these fit probably sixty percent of all the available hitches but there are the other forty percent to worry about so let's take a look at those the first one will be this guy if you have a larger hitch or a custom hitch you can see it's quite a bit longer than the other one but the diameter is the same and again it's interchangeable with either of the lock bodies they call this the 400 model and if you have a yakima as we have a lot of people have yakima bike racks or yakima hitches now you notice this one is threaded and that's for anti-rattle it will thread into it so it doesn't rattle around and then of course the lock body slides on to the end of it there so very cool very well thought out these four pins will fit about 90 of all trailer hitch um applications at least according to paclock's website all right in addition to these innovative pins and interchangeable lock bodies they've also made several improvements to the ucs cores the on the website they say that they've made them now they're non-overliftable guaranteed to be not overliftable as well as they've made other improvements so we've looked at these before they're six pinners let me go ahead and take the shiny one let me put a timer up here and let's see how long it takes me to pick this thing blind i do have keys for it in the bottom of the box but let's ignore those for now hopefully we won't need them all right let's start this timer and let's see how long it takes to pick this guy um it is fairly wide open i'm gonna have to move that just a little bit so i can fit my hand in frame all right i think i've already found one improvement all right first improvement i can feel is the box says six pin cylinder and i think i'm feeling seven pins in here so that may be one of the anti-pick improvements that they made in addition to the over lift protection yeah definitely i'm feeling seven all right let's see if we got here um if i can fit this on there all right we know there's seven at least i believe there are let's see what we got here very light tension because i've picked these before um in earlier videos a year or two ago and they definitely have serrated pins and i have a locked pin already and i barely have any tension on [Music] it [Music] okay i'm applying a lot of pressure to these pins now even though i have very light tension the only one i'm getting any feedback on is two looks like counter rotation before i do that again my tensioners start to pop out all right so now i believe that could be counter rotation so let's give it a try and lighten up on the tension and there we go i got a double crunch unfortunately that may be an over set oh no it's not there we go i just touched pin six and we got an open all right we are at let's see if we got him we stopped this dude 12 21 of this is a laboratory type environment i'm not on my hands and knees in the rain underneath the trailer hitch waiting for somebody to hit me in the head with a ball bat and it still took me 12 minutes and 21 seconds to pick this guy open based on the way this feels anyway as i said it's identical to all of the others let's take a look at the key see what we got here all right so in the bag we got a hitch pin to go in the end i guess there's a just clips on there i'd imagine i don't i can't imagine that this would possibly fall out of the lock but you got that and we got the key and i might have just made a fool of myself this looks like let's see we got one two three this looks like a six pinner i may have screwed up massively i could swear i felt an additional pin in there but perhaps not um anyway make sure it works and it does beautifully it is ball bearing let's go ahead and take this guy apart because it was so difficult to pick in comparison to the earlier models i think we ought to just pull that ucs core out of there and take a look at it i'm going to bust it open all right so it is it should come out now you can see how i could not remove the lock core if the pin were locked in position so for those of you who are trying to be observant about ways to hack this thing you'd have to go through the bolt from behind while it's in the hitch maybe we do have to have it unlocked yeah and it would have to be unlocked oh pretty cool anyway there's the actuator these are easily replaceable with new cores this is what i really want to see ah thank goodness all right now while this doesn't mean i'm not a fool um at least there are seven holes here four or five so yeah so there's seven holes and hopefully there are seven pins in this guy let's go ahead and move this out of there and just go to work on this guy we get a pinning tray and let's bust him open there's no clip on the back all right so we got a there's a set screw there i would imagine that's what holds the core in and i think that's a new design as well nope nope yep all right so hopefully now let's just check yeah okay now it will slide out let me get a follower and let's get this guy out of here maybe come on all right so what have screwed i screwed up already all right i wonder if there's a hole in this that something has just fallen into and the answer to that must be yes okay so weird no don't do that bill now there's definitely something holding that in there and i've started to partially remove it all right now that we got a lesson learned let's do it the right way i believe what happened when i rotated this and started to extract it obviously the anti-rotation groove the the driver pins popped into it so this time i'm going to rotate it counterclockwise so if you're going to take your lock apart yeah you probably should do it this way as opposed to the way i did it the first time all right pull the pin out now we're going to rotate it counterclockwise now it should unless we are set up for another gutting disaster where did the follower go there we go it should slide out at this point so the pins are going to be on that side and there we go all right so there are all six of them in an attack lock without any dremel tooling let's get him one two three these are all this is a zero bitted lock this one ahead on the shelf so there we go that's how you should do it anyway guys appreciate your time stay safe stay legal let's see what is your bit of luck this does come stock with everything ready to go except pinning let's see what we got in it all right so there's our spool there's a serrated another spool so it looks like it's pinned identically to the other one other than this one is no bedding another serrated another spool so we're alternating spools and serrateds excellent and the last one that is an anti-overset pin that's what that was it is an anti-overset pin the only thing holding the core in is that guy so that was the missing pin on the first cutting disaster all right well no disaster this time appreciate your time guys stay safe stay legal sorry about the mess all right now that we got that
