Hi guys. This is a guide on how I made my Biltong Box out of wood. Biltong is an awesome South African dried meat snack. It can be made with Beef or many other types of game. It was traditionally made outside, but using a Biltong Box you can make your own in your own home.

in this video I'm gonna show you how I made my biltong box built um is a dried meat snack they're originated from South Africa traditionally it was made outside drying in the sunlight and wind but here in England we're missing the first of those two things so I decided to make a box to dry my own biltong I started with several large sheets of wood and needed to cut them all down to size using my circular saw [Music] [Music] looking back I really should have laid down some tape to control some of that terror I'll definitely do it next time [Music] Oh includes some plans for this build in a PDF so check the description for a link below to download that next I sanded down the wood finally went up to around 150 grit [Music] I needed to glue up the door panel so I would glue along one of the edges and put them in my clamps to leave them set for an hour or two [Music] [Music] I worked off any of the excess squeeze out I'm using a computer fan to weight circulation in the box so I took the back of the box and marked up where the hole would need to be [Music] I drilled a series of holes and used my jigsaw to cut out the circle [Music] [Music] [Music] again probably shoulda use some tape to avoid the terror then I drilled another hole for the light fitting I tied up the inside of the fan hole with my drebbel and a sanding wheel [Music] a marked three equally distant points across the two side panels near the top [Music] and using a spade bit through the shallow hole I didn't go all the way through as these were just to hold the downs later [Music] then I started putting the box together I'm usually a countersink drill bit and pre drilling all holes to avoid splitting are then glued and screwed the top and bottom and one of the side pieces it's important to do it in the right order as you need to make sure you get the dowels in before adding the final side [Music] my word was a little bit warped so I used some clamps to make sure everything was square [Music] [Music] I cut down some 12 mill dowels to just over the width of the inside of the box I put some wood glue into the holes I made earlier this bits quite fiddly and hope to have someone else helping me out but put the dowels in one end and slide on the other side then glue and screw that on as well then it was time to attach the front door panel from earlier I used some small hinges and marked where they needed to go again pre-drilled all my holes to avoid spreading [Music] and attach the two hinges [Music] [Music] I headed six more holes along the top to add more ventilation [Music] the fan is at the bottom and pulls all the air in it goes up through the box and then escapes out the holes at the top [Music] [Music] I made sure the fan was facing the right way and attached it to the box [Music] and then pulled through the cable of my light fitting [Music] I use this catch to help hold the door closed and attach half to the inside and half to the backup door [Music] I've caught this nice brass knob but the screw was far too long so used cutoff wheel on my dremel to shorten it [Music] [Music] this is a two-part video if you want to make some biltong in your new built on box make sure to check out my recipe video as well for a full written guide and a list of materials and items used check out my Instructables page or website I hope you enjoyed this video and if you did please remember to like share and subscribe [Music]
