[Music] thanks to ag1 for sponsoring today's video I love me a good trick tip and hack that makes my life easier or that solves a problem I might have in my home in this video I'll share 16 smart ideas that I use around my apartment and that might solve an issue or just spark an idea in your home let's start off with a few ideas for the kitchen I keep my frying pan in the St under my oven to prevent the cupcake tin underneath from getting scratched I use a cork tet between the two we have a set of three at our summerhouse too and they will come in really handy there as well to prevent the painted shelves from getting scratched by cast iron pants and other cookware and of course you can use the trivet for its intended purpose too after your cooking is [Music] done for me it's normal to shule shelves around to optimize the storage in my kitchen cabinets to accommodate what I want to store in them or in any cabinet for that matter but I realized that not everyone does that so my second tip is to take a look at your cabinets and see if you're using them to their full potential do you have a lot of empty unusable space between shelves or is your stack of dishes really crammed in there and do you at the same time have cabinet shelf brackets that are removable and adjustable see if moving them around will help and perhaps you can even add a shelf for better use of the space if you have a brand name or big box door kitchen it's quite likely that you can buy additional [Music] shelves [Music] [Music] I like to create narrow slots for things like this big platter makes it so much easier to slide out than if it was stacked with things on top and while we're in the kitchen I'd like to thank the sponsor of this video ag1 ag1 is a science-driven formulation of vitamins probiotics and Whole Food sourced ingredients it combines what you would normally get from multiple individual supplements into a much simpler way to raise your Baseline Health I've been drinking ag1 daily for over a year now and in winter in particular when it's cold outside it makes even more sense to support the immune system the vitamins minerals and Whole Food sourced antioxidants support immune defenses in the body and I love how easy it is for me who's not into food or cooking to stay on top of my body's needs at my point in life I also appreciate so much that ag1 is packed with antioxidants and phytonutrients from Whole Foods to promote healthy aging I just add a scoop or a travel pack of ag1 into 6 to 8 ounces of water give it a shake and that's all it takes the taste is sweet and fruity and I really enjoy it go to drink a1.com Bonita Larson to get your free welcome kit that includes the canister Shaker a year supply of vitamin D3 plus K2 and five extra travel packs of ag1 thanks to ag1 for sponsoring today's video in a previous video I showed trying to get wax out of a wooden candle holder quite a few comments said to get that out by popping the candle holder in the freezer I use that trick all the time but for for some reason it didn't work for that particular piece somebody mentioned that it's actually not a candle holder at all but a nutcracker but anyway I thought I'd share the freezer method here because 95% of the time it does work like a [Music] charm so if you have candle wax stuck at the bottom of a container pop it into the freezer for a while I usually leave mine over night the cold temperature shrinks the wax making it easier to remove it usually just needs a tap a shake or a poke and then it falls right out after it's reached room temperature if it's really Sy a wipe around the trim might be needed and then I wash the candle holder in soapy warm water or put it in the [Music] dishwasher comes out perfectly here in Sweden we're big on recycling there's a dumpster for various recycling all around Stockholm and I have two stations close to my apartment I don't pass by them every day though so I do collect my recycling in these drawers in my kitchen in order for it to be easy to get out and not require a ton of handling I use recycling to contain other recycling does that make sense I don't get a new plastic bag out to contain plastic recycling I'll rinse and save lettuce packaging and other baggies or I'll be car ful when I open a package of toilet paper so I can reuse that for putting plastic recycling inside same for cardboard I'll fold smaller recycling into a bigger package this way I can just lift these out of my bents and pop them into my shopping bag and take them [Music] out [Music] moving on to three tips for taking out [Music] smells my son Villa his girlfriend Victoria and I have been buying a few things at auction for our summer house you sometimes don't notice the smell of old items until you get them home that's when you realize that there's a musty odor that was the case with the big old chest that we bought the chest has since been brought to the summerhouse but I want to share the three methods I used to get the stink out let's use this little old chair that has a storage compartment as an [Music] example first off vacuum the inside to make sure it's not something loose that's causing the [Music] smell then choose your weapon I actually did all these three things with that chest but it was pretty bad but start off with one method that might work on its own if it doesn't do the next and so on start off by just placing a bowl of vinegar inside leave it for a few days or at least overnight the vinegar neutralizes smell and that alone might [Music] help if the smell persists scrub the inside of the piece of furniture with vinegar using a sponge and a brush so you can get into all the little crevices make sure you do this in a well ventilated area I've also heard that you can create a paste of bicarbonate and water and scrub with that which does sound like a less smelly solution you then wait for it to dry and vacuum out the dry by carb some vacuum cleaners like Bagless Dyson should not be used for this though as far as I understand it might damage the filters the last method I tried was the by far easiest all I had to do was just fill the cavity of the chest with crumpled up newspapers the paper sucks in the bad smell and when you remove the paper you also remove the odor I switched out the news print a few times over a week or so and this method really worked to get the last stinkiness out it is a very old chest so there's still a tiny bit of a smell but it no longer smells bad if that makes sense now it just smells 150 plus years old and speaking of vam Victoria sharing tools is my next tip Villa Victoria and I live in the same neighborhood when we got our summerhouse and needed tools for there it made more sense for one of us to bring the majority of our toolkit there instead of getting a full new set for the house so we decided to share a set of tools between us in the city there are basic tool kits at both apartments with a few screwdriver drivers hammers Etc but the power tools we share between us neither of us do a ton of DIY in the city so when we need a drill we can pass it between us and even my best friend an is involved in our swap she has a heavyduty drill and for years that drill has lived with a person whose walls are the hardest to drill into Villa and Victoria's 1970s building has the hardest walls so that drill is in their basement storage unit for now so instead of getting a power tool that you won't use often join Ventures with a family member or a [Music] friend [Music] I'm a firm believer in saying a place for everything and everything in its place in my opinion one of the places where getting organized matters the most is in the entryway where you leave your home and when you're not organized it can mean removing your shoes again and running around to look for things like keys or Earp pods in my own entryway I've solved that with two hooks and a permanent charging cord right by the door [Music] one hook holds my keys the other hook holds a shoe horn so I won't damage my shoes when I put them on without untying the [Music] laces the charging cord for my earpods is on this little shelf when I leave I use the shoe horn take the keys and take the [Music] airpods when I enter I put the air pods and keys back it's something I now do on autopilot and I never have to wonder where either of those things are and speaking of quartz here here's a cord management tip I can't for the life of me understand how black cords and chargers are still more common than white thank God for Apple products if you ask me I have this really nice lamp that's chargeable when the cord and charger are plugged in the first thing I see when I enter my kitchen is a black cord against my white trim I don't mind the charger as much but the Squigly line of the cord bugs me there's nowhere in this area to hide the cord so after I charge the light I remove the cord and cord [Music] alone the cord goes in this basket on my countertop in the basket I also keep the cords for other devices and things I use in the kitchen and that need charging this is the cord for my lar bottle and this one is for my fabric shaver because I tend to use the shaver on my kitchen table oh I also keep the little brush for my fabric shaver in there too so I can clean it out before [Music] charging and again I leave the charger in the outlet so I don't have any visible cable spaghetti out but still have easy access to the charger next up are a couple of rubber glove tricks I used to get so annoyed when I wore rubber gloves for cleaning and raised my arms to reach a higher spot and the water ran down the gloves and wet my arms and my sleeves now I always fold down the top edge of the gloves which stops the drips and yes I do feel very smug every single time I use this trick it's like I'm winning every single time [Music] do you have pets do they shed did you know that you can use rubber gloves to remove pet [Music] hair just put the gloves on and run your hands over the fuzzy area and collect the hair or if you prefer use a squeegee for that [Music] job just run it along the surface with a dog or cat hair to remove it voila here's a trick I use in my under sync bathroom cabinet I have a little chest of drawers inside that hold small bits it's not as deep as the cabinet and since I don't want to block the drawers anyway I want them to be as close to the front of the Shelf as possible as I pushed the drawers in I would also push the whole thing towards the back enter two toilet paper rolls [Music] I just cut them off at the correct depth and then tape them together like a set of [Music] binoculars pop them behind the chest of drawers and now it stays where I want [Music] it easy peasy popping back into the kitchen quickly for this one this is the drawer under the fake drawer under my kitchen sink and above my trash and recycling drawer in it I keep some cleaning supplies and my kitchen towels and speaking of kitchen towels that's what I made my cloth napkins out of I couldn't find cloth napkins that I liked so I bought some kitchen towels and trimmed off the top part so they're square instead of rectangular folded over the edge and R them through my sewing machine I use these instead of paper napkins and I really like them I keep them stacked next to the kitchen towels and the one or ones that I'm currently using I keep on the side in the same drawer but folded differently after each use I put them back there on the left until they need washing and then they go in my laundry hamper instead rinse and [Music] repeat this last trick is something my mom taught me she loved flowers and wanted any case that came her way to last as long as possible she would of course make sure that there were no leaves touching the water give stems a fresh cut and change water often the trick she swore by was to keep her bouqu Cas chilled overnight she would place the whole vase either Outdoors or in her Conservatory in the evening depending on outside temperatures and in the morning bring it back inside the ideal temperature for flowers is 7 to 12° Cen or 45 to 53° fah so if you don't have an outdoor space but have a large enough fridge you can basically keep it in there I hope you enjoyed these ideas for your home thanks so much for watching I'll see you in the next one hey do
