some good water you know why this is good water it's a thousand island water that's special water it's not just your everyday water 1000 island water right here because that's where we are well good morning yeah this is where we are guys check it out i'm excited about this because i've never been here before we are in waddington new york on the shores of the st lawrence river and we are getting ready to embark on a three-day practice for the final bassmaster event of the 2021 season we've documented the ups we've documented the downs 80 mile river and then we have the lake to contend with so we've got to figure out a way to catch a bag a four day bag we want to fish four days here that is the goal today guys we haven't made a top ten all year we've made a lot of cuts we've had uh a kind of a a rough tournament or two two tournaments that are rough and that's where we're at you know matt's got a lot to do he's got he's got to claw his way back into the classic canterbury's got to pull off something special we're here at this house this week canterbury and matt are literally right down the road we had a little snafu with housing the house that we had rented literally sold and there was a two bedroom that they ended up getting and at the last minute we're gonna run rv we weren't sure what we're gonna do we found this thing at the last minute so nevertheless we're not all together sleeping but we'll be all together filming and stuff so matt and them are here they're uh matt and them just left i just talked to them they're on their way to the river now and canterbury's on his way to the lake he's actually gonna practice the lake and i'm not sure what i'm gonna do we may run to the lake too but that being said day one of practice yeah it's starting right now flying out of your mouth it's time to put your money where your words fall out show me what you're talking about yeah show me what you got all right a little bit of like finding a needle in a haystack but you have this panoptix that helps like there's fish i don't know what those are might be drum it's 11 foot of water shallow a small mouth won't hit a top water right here they'll hit a top water in the lake won't they i never tried i got one yeah they're smallmouth they're all smallmouth i can see him he's not big but he's two and a half there's 50 of them there look they're all under my bait dude yeah and there's a bigger one right there beside it i let him get off on accident oh my gosh begging right here biggin i mean this is a different level of big right here i've been catching this oh my gosh it's a giant absolute freaking tank guys so i got on this flat okay look oh big my gosh this is giant all right four four that's awesome it's right here be looking it's right in there that rock there's a bunch more fish here on the graph i don't know if they're drum or what they are i'm probably smallmouth they're around a little rock those are smallies here we go oh my gosh look at these things oh wow okay come on dude the load just a two pounder um there he is there's a bunch in there there's a bunch of them there just not big it's not big that's a little thing oh he swallowed it dude what's up man what'd you do that for all right guys we're getting close to the end of the day it's four o'clock little storms are coming in so far i'm not digging it i'm not digging it at all i mean i've caught a four something a three a couple two and a halves i mean this is st lawrence this is the lake i mean you gotta really have to even be in contention you have to have 20 like minimum so i am far from that you know it's just a lot of water out here guys i mean i don't even really it's just hard i mean you look at the map and you say oh come on go fish that let me pull it to where it is on the map and it's like six mile long point so you know this just requires getting really lucky and landing on a school fish or getting on a rock or something but if you go out here and just randomly find a whole bunch of really good stuff it's gonna be a little tough so it's not gonna be easier in that river i promise you that too but you know i don't know i gotta evaluate my best scenario on catching 18 19 pounds and it may be up shallow you know maybe i just need to go up shallow and just do the very best i can on large mouth and smallmouth i don't know we'll see but so far we're not coming back here uh i don't know what this is oh that's a big one things are so strong it's crazy there he comes here he comes he comes guy he's not even close to being done he's just fired up now not even that big oh not even that big at all you probably three pounds only because he's thick yep three pounds little dudes little guys man real little that's not even right we gotta get the hell out of here dude there's just not big ones out here long ways over here for nothing but i've talked to matt today and he's not catching them yet um canterbury's doing about like what i've done it's weird deal you know we hit champlain right but i don't know about this one i don't know about this one because the st lawrence river it flows that way towards the ocean and so i marked these fish in 28 and 30 and um i turned around i caught them but they're all small and i thought they were small too the way they looked on the graph should get a bite right here there he is drifting fish a little i think they were all little just based on the way they looked on the screen the weather allows i can go out there and do it but i gotta figure out these drift fish i can do that i'm liking what i'm seeing but check this out guys the st lawrence river is the prettiest place i've ever been check this out guys there's a freaking castle yeah a freaking castle i don't even know like why is there castles here man i almost ran out of gas like he's got so scared so i'm on zero percent zero i've been on one percent for like six miles it went from 12 at like 17 miles or whatever 12 miles i was at 17 and then all of a sudden i'm like 17 uh 17 then all of a sudden 12 like real quick and then i look down a minute like it's seven percent i'm like what and then it's like three percent two percent one percent for like four miles on one percent oh my god i'm alright i guess hundred percent i'm gonna be out of here you want one percent you 100 rather run out of gas one percent at zero percent i'm 100 gonna run out of gas i don't know how it made it i know how to catch a big bag in the lake i only caught one big one doing it but i stopped doing it and then canterbury kept doing it he had like 25 pounds smallies hit a six pounder and a bunch of full four and a half problem is uh such a long ways dude i didn't realize how far it was i started coming back gosh it tastes good yeah i'm gonna have some extra noodles make some more pasta tomorrow can we do that for leftovers go get more meatballs yeah what's a good movie we can watch i don't think i can do a movie it's too late dude it's ten o'clock i need a little fox news i need a little look at my map and i need to go to bed we gotta get up at five 30. you said 5 30 yesterday and you were up at 6. i did i swept in a little bit this morning i know but y'all were it was good cold out that's funny both of y'all were sitting here side by side too funny dude they're all sitting side by side right like this i did my alarm didn't go off i just did i'm gonna bid like one so you just snoozed it you heard that thing go off you're just like nope so the goal tomorrow so i'm going to launch mid river and work my way back up to here and we're going to fish deep we didn't really find a whole lot today we there is an option the the lake option is is a viable doable thing even though i only put my hands on one big one today we found a couple more schools up there i mean i just if you poke around there long enough you'll stumble upon them but you can't poke around too long because you don't have that much time you only have like six hours of fish up there we'll figure it out we got it going oh yeah a little overcast today good morning everybody even though it looks light outside it's like 5 30 in the morning it's 5 30 in the morning i think everybody's still asleep there's a crack right there don't touch me with your toes like that oh my gosh sleeping with the fishes huh sorry y'all get up did he just hit his head he put a crack in the wall he literally stood up and just banged it down why do they make dome houses guys that's a question i want to have answered like what is the advantage structurally efficiency this is just cool yeah okay maybe that's just the reason well good morning day two of practice yeah it's starting right now we gotta go find some fish guys so yesterday is it raining oh man it's raining it's raining but look what i have don't worry don't worry i have a fish barometer that's what i have right now let's see what it says it's in the good side which is great it's almost a great it's between good and great for today we gotta figure out the sections hot it's 80 miles of st lawrence and it won't i mean it's all good but it's it's in different stages different parts of the river i don't know which is good or not so you know you're gonna have to just figure out a hot section the other curve ball is that we can't fish canadian water which basically have the rivers in canada and from what the people say is like the some of the best ledges and drops and areas are on the north side of the river which is canada so i think we're gonna go down and launch south of here maybe 40 miles 30 miles i'll fish my way back up you guys i got this aqua view camera so what i've been doing is drifting across these points and uh you can see them like you can see them there's like four or five there on this on this spot now i haven't been real successful in catching them and one thing that i've noticed is that these fish are moving like a lot so i don't know it's kind of a weird deal and i think it's because the current's so light that these fish are just cruising along they can just swim where they want to swim we'll see if we can that's a big one there we go just like that threesome just a three wow he's having a three it's a twosome look how fat solid that fish is wow that's crazy uh oh big i don't think he's giant i haven't seen him yet no he's a little a little that's what i thought too it looked real little oh that's a big in there that's a bacon this is a big that's the bacon right here well oh my gosh dude all right there's a lot of them here i know that little a little little i think that that other one was big another big one maybe it's a better fish because i know the one before was big this one's acting big this would be good and good to know it's like it's like you gotta like go through a bunch of little ones to get a big one they're mixed in yeah that's a good fish right it's a good fish i don't even know how big he is he's not that big three and a half three and a half the other one was big like that too so i can't believe it come out here catch this really dude wow wow the giant wow look at that thing that's a really big one dude guys look at this it's a really big one right there that's a big big wow guys look at that one it's a big so i'm up on this flat right now and i've seen cut that one four and a half and i've seen several more big ones and they i thought they were spawning but they're really not they're just kind of up here post spawn which is um they're not biting well i mean i've chased a few around but obviously they see me i see them it's just kind of i don't know maybe if it was really windy here you could take a a spinnerbait or a jerkbait or something and catch them oh my gosh yeah it's a giant wow wow biggins right in here guys it's another four and a half pounder four at least look at him in the water that's so beautiful look at that hey dude what's up man what's up dude broke my line well that's just stanky it's kind of wet it's a little wet a little soggy i kind of feel bad we're in a clean dry car he's out there oh no that's nasty yeah no kidding oh there he is right there oh my lord i feel so bad don't mess this up it's gonna be furious i messed it up once when it was raining i can't see anything dad what are you doing did you hook up the boat no yeah you need to hook up the boat how was that they light them striking all right around me oh my gosh oh you made it that was the fish today holy crap man that was scary holy crap i need to take these pants off slip them off well i can't because it's just i want to get completely soaked in like one second wow that was kind of sketchy dude the winds are blowing like 50 miles an hour lightning was gold i just stood there i said i don't want to move there's a porta potty and i was going to caught in the door just hang out there but then i was like it's been there a long time it's probably really nasty in there picked up and then the potty flew i was kind of thinking that too all right that was crazy huh i mean i made it in torrential downpour like crazy i had to wait like 15 minutes for jade to get there lightning was literally popping all around me what a storm but you know today i'm gonna break down today real quick so practice yesterday wasn't very good i was all over the place today it's still all over the place but as you saw i kind of started figuring out how to catch fish and kind of what to look for you know that camera really allowed me to gain confidence in where those fish are and then to this afternoon i was able to kind of duplicate that on a lot of different places so tomorrow where do i need to go i'm going to stay a lot closer to waddington tomorrow and so i can maximize fishing time and this may boil down to just running around and literally fishing new water all day long in the tournament i think i think once you establish a way of catching them like i did today i think that that's the positive there where i found fish today where i caught most of my fish today was pretty far from waddington so i don't know if i'm gonna run that far i'd like to find fish close and maximize fishing time so that being said um good day you know again kind of figured out a little bit of a pattern hopefully i can duplicate that tomorrow tomorrow's the last day of practice we've got to make something special happen and uh we'll go to bed and that's it so canterbury caught him pretty good today uh matt struggled a little bit as well um kind of like me you know we caught some good ones we're just kind of figuring out a little bit about what's going on so that being said we'll chalk it up as a success time to kind of put the pedal to the metal tomorrow though figure it out i feel like i haven't been to bed i left you guys in the kitchen last night it was like we got a lot of new water to fish so i'm looking at an avionics map on my ipad everybody's wondering like what are you doing ipad well looking at avionics i do this and i drop waypoints from what i think looks good and then uh go back and fish so today's the last day of practice we've got to make something special happening today a little bit of weather in raining a little windy but we're in the river so it's not a big deal you know time to hey y'all got to get up man i got to go there we go first time everybody's good to see you you're getting over there in the mansion they get they've been standing in the castle on the island no castle all right day three of practice yeah we gotta get it figured out by the way you're looking at the eventual elite series champion for the st lawrence river right there he's going to win the thing currents current's a little wanky today well let me rephrase that the winds a little jacked up a little strange all right guys we gotta find some stuff this is crazy sun's starting to come out so oh golly i don't know what to do guys all i know is i see five decent fish five bites out there doing that and i'll have what i need that's a fact pretty cool pretty cool all right well that's a wrap guys day three of practice is kind of the books i mean i don't really know you know i usually do really well on smallmouth and this wasn't a great practice it really wasn't and it's a weird deal because it's like we went to the lake and we found some big fish on the lake and actually that's where it's going to be won but it's one of those deals where i just don't think i want to risk it so i think i'm going to stay around here and with what i found today what i saw on the camera i think i can catch a pretty good bag and then run up mid lake um you know where we caught some fish this morning and where i caught some fish in practice and uh there's some good ones up there i mean three and a half to four and a half pounds so at the end of the day i just got to get 18 or 19 pounds two days in a row and we're golden we do that we're gonna gamble on day three we're gonna go to the lake we're gonna have some fun i hope we can fish on day three and four that would be awesome wouldn't it go out on lake ontario and just let it all hang out guys that's it time to head in that's all right today was really i didn't want to catch any of them there's not that many fish on huh it wasn't great dude i'm i'm i'm uh i'm a little spun but it'll be what it'll be come all the way here let's see st lawrence river and it's supposed to be like the best fishing in the whole world and it's just kind of it's just kind of weird dude be honest with you i think everybody's going to whack them tomorrow like major major bags oh yeah 10 i have to catch or 18 pounds what'd y'all do today so i heard uh heard about hillary's fish huh good five pound five ounce smallmouth her personal best yeah so we pull up to the spot we take four casts and travis hooks into a 47-inch muskie that we fight for 15 minutes oh he didn't hitler didn't catch it no no travis caught the muskie but dude it was like insane we let that thing go and like five minutes later hillary catches the five pounder travis just caught a four i've caught a couple threes really it was wild was he fun to fish with yeah he's a good dude he's a lot of fun all right all right all right all right you're going to go cook i'm going to rig taco looking pretty good they look good we haven't cooked burgers like at all this year see how many people know about that little trick right there a lot of y'all know it's the only way to cook burgers all right so i gotta rig up about three or four spinning rods that's about it really i'm gonna rig up a biffle bug put a bandito on it let's see what happens to do that drag that around a little bit so all right we've rigged we've rigged two tournaments in a row kind of kind of kind of crusty you know but part of tournament fishing man you know i've been doing this 20 years and it's like you know you do go through these little you do go through these little ups and downs and obviously i've been a little bit of a a down you know i've had a couple rough tournaments this year i've had a couple pretty good tournaments this year you know coming off guntersville with a great finish and then you know kind of muffin up i mean just destroyed uh yeah we're not gonna talk about champlain i don't know i'm gonna pretend that didn't happen but now we're here and uh job at hand is to figure out a way to catch enough weight to make day three that's the goal so let's go check on everybody did good on the burgers man so seven o'clock in the morning blast off about 30. so we have to be up at uh 5 30. i mean it's right around the corner luckily yeah we might need to give it like 5 10 time to get a few things ready to go and uh
