I'll admit that I missed most of the last 4-5 by fast forwarding, but as a dude with 350 hours flying time, but 10,000 sitting at a scope. All those points were very real.
My top 3 were in no particular order. If youre a student or unfamiliar, tell me. My favorite local pilot is my favorite because he once forgot his wallet at his origin flying IFR, told be he only had 200 hours imc as PIC and needed plain language what the steps were to get clearance back. If he does that no pilot need fear appending student pilot.
We as ATC exist to help. We have a ton of tools to do so. Ignoring them is moronic. *3 slew enter for my TRACON peeps. I've seen people crash and everyone thankfully live because of hesitation to state what's messed up. Let me know, I am not the police. I'm your one friend when things go bad.
Lastly were human too. We screw up. Challenge me on that turn to the left you think should be to the right. I dont care. I'll restate direction if it seems odd. I may sound pissy after the 29th bad readback but it ain't you guys it's just a bad Monday.
Solid video my man!
Been 13 years and my badge hasn't come in, nor my LEO credentials. Just to emphasize we arent air police.
Happy flying guys and gals.
I am based at Addison airport (KADS) which is under the Class B shelves of the Dallas / Fort Worth airspace in North Texas. It's one of the busiest single runway airports in the country and I learned to fly here many years ago. I wanted to put this video together because as I look back on learning to fly here, it was VERY intimidating at first talking on the radio among the Southwest and American Airlines pilots and the like just to go to and from a flight lesson as a low time pilot. Over time it gets MUCH easier and now talking to ATC is one of the most fun parts of flying in class B. I think there are some practical ways to build confidence talking to ATC and I wanted to share my thoughts here. Hope it helps in some way!
