many dangerous and bizarre creatures inhabit this planet's waters some of them we've known for centuries but there are always more to be discovered from the most vicious shark attack to a creature from the deep sea here are 15 most dangerous ultimate close calls at sea number 15 surfer fights off shark mick fanning is a triple world champion australian professional surfer and he might just be the bravest man on earth he was attacked by a shark during a surf competition in south africa but he survived unscathed and it all happened on live tv panning was minding his own business on a surfboard when suddenly you can see a shark fin poking out of the water and then to the horror of the spectators fanning disappears everyone's heart stopped beating it's never a good thing when someone disappears underwater when a shark just attacked him after what seemed to be an eternity but in reality was only a few seconds fanning reappears and seems to be okay [Music] soon after rescuers arrived on water scooters and also on a speedboat you can see that fanning is extremely distraught but with his four limbs intact the shark did manage to rip off the surfboard though fanning later said he warned away the massive shark coming at my board and i just was like kicking and screaming and wow by punching it on the back whatever it was that kept the shark from taking a bite that man is incredibly lucky to be alive today and to be able to tell the story without even so much as a scar before we go on like this video smash the subscribe button and click the notification bell right now or this centipede will crawl on your face when you're sleeping [Music] number 14 that is not a catfish on the end of the line imagine going camping with your family one day at the lake foss point state park and then you decide to go fishing for catfish sounds lovely doesn't it well sometimes something as innocent as that can be extremely dangerous if you don't believe me ask this guy oh my god that's a big ass gator his name is lance burgos and he was on a little pedal boat with his little daughter and they went to pick up his catfish noodles that he left soaking overnight he starts pulling on one of the noodles and behold something caught could it be a catfish it's a little heavy for that could it possibly be a garfish then his daughter then reaches out to help her dad pull on the strain but thanks to his dad reflexes he tells her to be careful and put the arm back inside the boat and you'll see why that was critically important for avoiding the transformation of a relaxing and joyful holiday experience into a traumatic life-changing moment in their lives now two seconds after the little girl realizes her mistake and stops reaching out with her arm a massive gator comes out of the water you could imagine how fast the dad started pedaling after that number 13 swimming with orca in new zealand for a long time orcas have been given a very unfair nickname killer whales in reality they are absolutely amazing animals and no like no animal they are not evil granted they are extremely good hunters and you should never ever swim with them if you're not trained to do so but they can also be quite playful and cute they are extremely intelligent and if they like you they'll want to play with you and you'll walk away unharmed and with an amazing experience under your belt this was what happened to this group of snorkelers in new zealand they found themselves unexpectedly swimming with orcas you can actually hear the screams of joy these guys were making they even giggle although they look like they're having the time of their life it is never advised to approach a wild animal if you don't know what you're doing orcas can be very dangerous even for humans they are apex predators after all these guys were very lucky they could have gotten seriously injured number 12 seal escapes an orca close calls at sea caught on camera don't only happen to us humans animals also escape certain death on camera sometimes like this beautiful seal that was being chased down by a pot of orcas now as you might already know orcas eat seals and they are extremely good at hunting them so the little seal in this video had little to no chance at all of surviving such an attack until it saw a boat nearby kirk fraser the owner of the boat said he saw the seal's tiny head pop out of the water and he thought it was injured but the next thing he saw was the seal catching its breath between the engines of his boat and that's when he saw the orca's fins the seal was so desperately scared and in distress the seal had to decide in a split second if the people on that boat presented more or less of a threat than the huge whales chasing it and it made the right decision i guess those people looked a lot less terrifying than the big scary orcas so it jumped right in to avoid the massive jaws in the water that was definitely a close call number 11. man panics after swimming with a great white if you know what basking sharks are you know they're completely harmless to humans or any other animal for that matter the little shrimp and fish eggs even if they are sharks they are not predators and they have no way of hunting you even if they wanted to that's what this guy thought when he saw a shark on the water and instantly jumped in to swim with it he thought it was a gentle basking shark everyone's laughing and having fun until his friend that was holding the camera points it at the water only to realize his friend is not swimming inches away from a basking shark but instead it is a massive great white shark you can imagine that the mood changed immediately as he tells him that's not a basking shark dude there's a lesson to be learned here and apparently some people haven't figured it out yet if you see a shark in the water you know take a minute to figure out if it's the least or the most dangerous shark species known to humankind thankfully nothing happened to the man but he got close enough to touch the shark and the incident could have ended up in tragedy number 10 alligator leaps out of the water to try to eat a woman this woman had no idea what was going to happen to her when she decided she wanted to learn how to go on a zip line she was surrounded by instructors and she was wearing a helmet what could go wrong well first of all that zipline was over a river so the helmet wouldn't really help with what was coming her way as she approached the lower points of the line the point where she would be the closest to the water a gator suddenly leaped out of the water with its jaws wide open imagine the terror even from a state of total rest an alligator can leap six feet into the air from the water thankfully nothing happened to the woman and she reached the other side unharmed but it sure was a close call you can see how she retracted her legs by pure instinct and reflexes and you can even hear the instructor laughing nervously in the background i don't know about you guys but i'll think twice next time someone proposes to go on a zip line especially if it's dangerously close to an alligator infested or ever number nine whale breeches on boat whales are beautiful gentle creatures and they have never hurt anyone but we seem to forget just how huge they are an adult humpback whale weighs 30 000 kilograms and can grow up to 16 meters they are the largest animal on earth by far so when this couple jumped into a tiny little boat to go see the whales they quickly realized that size does matter whales are also covered in barnacles which are little animals that basically attach themselves on the whale's skin they are harmless but it can be itchy sometimes and a boat can be the perfect tool for a whale to scratch that itch and get those annoying barnacles off but you know the whale is extremely bigger than the boat and well it can be easily tipped over even if that never is the intention of the whale it can and does happen quite often and it can be very scary in this case the woman gets very frightened as a massive whale almost tips her boat over you can even hear her pleading to her partner to back off a little bit she even says she thinks the whales are planning something i doubt they're planning something but the chances of her falling to the water are quite high to be honest number eight dolphin jumps on boat dolphins love to jump out of the water it's a game for them and for us it's a beautiful display to watch but it can sometimes end up in tragedy when there are boats around from time to time it'll happen that a dolphin miscalculates the jump angle and ends up inside the boat and as we all know dolphins can't breathe air so it can be extremely dangerous for them when that happens thankfully on this video another boat comes to the rescue and they manage to get the dolphin back into the water where it belongs but imagine if they didn't it would have suffocated until eventually suffering a horrible death you can see how it thrashes desperately not understanding what's happening if it weren't for those good samaritans the dolphin's fate would have been sealed because dolphins are heavier than they look some species can weigh a staggering 280 kilograms it took at least four men to manage to lift it up you can even see the rest of the dolphins getting nervous and not knowing what to do thankfully everything ended well and the animal was not injured in any way but it sure was a close call number seven seal slaps kayaking man with octopus it's not a secret that some animals are not very fond of us human beings and sometimes they politely let us know that it's time to back off but other times they opt for a way that's uh let's say a bit more head-on just not their head watch how this seal slaps an unsuspecting kayaker right on his face with an octopus the bizarre event was caught on camera by a friend of the victim the victim's name is molinder and he apparently takes the whole situation with a lot of humor as anyone would i suppose if a wild animal slapped you in your face with an octopus what do you think was more scared the seal the octopus or molinder apparently that behavior is not as strange as it may seem seals like having a bit of octopus for a snack from time to time but the suction cups can still stick to things even after death so ingesting an octopus can be a dangerous endeavor and that's why this seal was going around throwing the poor mollusk around to tenderize the meat the slap part is just a bonus for our entertainment number six stingray jumps onto a ramp for food do you remember steve irwin he was the beloved wildlife expert that entertained us for years thanks to his absolute lack of fear and respect he had when it came to handling basically any animal on earth but do you remember how he unfortunately died he was stung by a stingray so when you see this man nonchalantly feed a massive stingray your heart skips a beat the man in question was feeding fish when suddenly the huge stingray appears like a shadow under the water then it looks like it's doing some reconnaissance but not only that the massive animal then jumps onto the wooden ramp and this man even pets it we can only assume he's highly trained and knows exactly what he's doing because stingrays can be quite dangerous you can hear people in the background shrieking in sheer terror as the animal leaps out of the water the stingray turns out to look very cute but i would definitely not get too close and maybe jump away just in case but not this man he must be one of the bravest people on earth i mean he doesn't even flinch number five humpback soaks alaska whale watchers humpbacks are amongst the biggest animals on earth and they are quite impressive and alaska is absolutely full of them so when you jump into a boat to go watch the whales well things can get tricky just imagine you stop your boat close enough from where the whales are but not too close is for putting yourself in their reach range because they can tip a boat over as easy as we can turn the page of a book so you try not to get in their way because the water in alaska is so tremendously cold it is not a nice experience to fall into it but while you're watching the beautiful whales from a safe distance a massive one breaches only a few inches from your boat now that must be so scary and so amazing at the same time it jumps several meters above the water and goes back down absolutely soaking everyone on board so i guess they didn't have to fall into the water to experience how cold it actually is you can hear everyone just nervously laughing and screaming [Music] but even at the risk of passing a freezing moment this looks like it's absolutely worth it number four gigantic squid attacks paddleboard giant squids have been a mythological creature for a long time until the first ever footage of them in 2006. we never made contact before that because they live at the very bottom of the deep sea where it's very difficult for us to reach but you don't need to go that far to see a gigantic squid in the wild there are also humboldt squids and they are a staggering two meters long so when you see the massive tentacles get a hold of this man's paddleboard it really makes you fear for his life also humboldt squids only go to the surface of the water to hunt and they can be quite aggressive and efficient [Laughter] they are absolutely fierce and they hunt in very large packs so knowing all this there's probably many more massive squids underwater just deciding if they want to attack or not and by many more i mean hundreds just imagine a pack of hundreds of two meter squids perfectly equipped to hunt you down and kill you humble squids have the reputation of being man eaters in hindsight this man was extremely lucky to have survived such an encounter number three girl freaks out about a manatee if you don't know what a manatee is they're basically the nicest sweetest creatures on the planet their name means water cow and they have never hurt anybody that's why it's so funny when this woman loses her mind when she's swimming in a river and she encounters a docile and tranquil manatee minding its own business the woman in question starts shouting from the top of her lungs asking for help but honestly the manatee is literally niceness incarnated even if they want it to hurt someone and i assure you they don't they don't have anything to do it with they have a soft body with soft skin no sharp teeth no powerful muscles it's basically a big stuffed teddy bear at this point i think there's a possibility the manatee wanted to cuddle that woman the incident happened in florida and the woman in question was a spring breaker but by the way she's screaming you would think there's an army of great white sharks after her in the meantime you can actually hear her friend laughing in the background they know there is no danger whatsoever number two massive crocodile attacks drone this amazing footage was taken by a drone that was hovering over the sea near the coastline the person operating the drone caught sight of a massive saltwater crocodile that was mining its own business and decided to take a super nice close-up shot of it little did he know what was gonna happen next as the drone gets near it takes amazing footage of the head of the reptile while capturing the gorgeous background scenery and as it passes over the head towards the tail of the crocodile we can see a massive and powerful jaw filled with terrifying teeth trying to catch the drone but the amazing thing is that the drone is able to recover and keeps hovering away without even touching the water at the last minute we can see a boat nearby probably from where the drone was being operated that was too close for comfort though the man that took the footage is called quentin roper and the incident took place off the coast of gruth island in australia thankfully roper could recover his drone without any issues number 1 diver catches venomous sea snake sea snakes are incredibly venomous just three drops of their venom can kill eight people knowing that seeing this man simply grabbing one from the sea bottom like he's picking up a piece of paper makes you fear for his life the man is jonathan bird and he is the host of a tv show called blue world so evidently he knows what he's doing but the interesting fact is although sea snakes are extremely deadly they are super docile and not at all aggressive this one in particular simply sleeping peacefully when this man comes and grabs it and i know many people that would react very violently to that let alone an animal with one of the most powerful venoms in the world but the snake doesn't seem to try and bite the diver at any moment and when he releases her she just swims away but even if the snakes show no sign of aggression it is very brave to just grab a wild one like that it could have ended in tragedy very fast as you can see close calls at sea are terrifying and happen quite often i don't know about you guys but i'll think twice next time i get into the water what about you have you ever had a close call at sea also check out our other cool stuff showing up on screen right now see you next time you
