It may be the coldest city in the world in the winter but right now that whole region is having unprecedented wildfires.
Really enjoyed watching that, thanks for sharing op.
A sister city to Fairbanks, AK for 33 years now.
Notice this guy bought something from the merchant he interviewed, this is how you do it.
Wait do they not see themselves as part of Russia? I thought they were the equivalent of a state or province, but is that not the case? The wiki page says, "In 1992, after the fall of the Soviet Union, Sakha was recognized in Moscow as the Sakha (Yakutia) Republic under the jurisdiction of the Russian Federation. Sakha is historically part of Russian Siberia, but since the formation of the Far Eastern Federal District in 2000, it is administratively part of the Russian Far East." It sounds like Russia at least sees them as part of Russia, but do the people that live there not see it that way?
This brings up something. Where would you rather live, Yakutsk or Death Valley?
No thank you.
Except the gas pipes over ground, fossils, burning dead people and double windows in cars (In houses it's mandatory), that's pretty basic in Finland as well. We usually have just 20-30 degrees below zero. No smog though. It's more managable than these current +35 heat waves without air conditioning.
Lived in an area that got down to -60 a couple times before wind chill and it's nothing to fuck around with. I'd still take it over extreme heat in a heartbeat but it will absolutely destroy you in a fucking hurry if you're not aware of your current condition and how easy it is to get frostbite and slip into hypothermia.
Was still shocking to me when my EFI snowmobile wouldn't even turn over. That was about the moment I realized that the cold was substantially more dangerous than what I'd been used to prior.
