welcome to Canterbury Cottage I am so excited to share today's video with you because I have compiled 15 of my best-selling DIY projects for fall so whether you're an avid DIY or who just loves making things for your own home or a reseller looking for marketable merchandise I have lots of great ideas for you so if you're looking for some easy budget-friendly and profitable fall DIYs let's get started for my first project you'll need a few of those small wood pumpkin signs from Dollar Tree you can either sand off the design or flip them over and just use the back side cut one of the pumpkin signs in half to create two small pumpkins then print out some Autumn or Halloween images that you like I'll link my images in the description box apply a light even coat of mod podge both to the block and to the back of your image and then carefully apply the image to the block let the Mod Podge dry for about 30 minutes then trim up the edges with an X-Acto Knife or a pair of scissors carefully sand the edges with 220 grit sandpaper then apply a light even top coat of mod podge over your image for the block that you cut in half you'll need to drill a hole and add a stick for a stem glue the smaller pumpkin to the larger pumpkin making sure that the bottom edges are perfectly aligned add a little Raffia around the stem or any other embellishments that you like I added some pit berries from a thrifted candle ring I love the idea of putting a classic autumn poem or short story on the large pumpkin with a related image on the small Pumpkin I always sell several sets of the Edgar Allan Poe Raven pumpkins [Music] thank you for this next project you'll need a wood round mine is from Dollar Tree paint the edges in back side of the wood round with two coats of cashew chalk paint then print out this adorable Man in the Moon image I'll have it linked in the description box apply a thin coat of mod podge to the wood round and to the back of the image and then adhere the image to the wood smoothing out any wrinkles I always print out my images just a tiny bit bigger than the object and then cut off any excess and smooth the edges with sandpaper to reduce the chance of wrinkling I always let the first coat of mod podge dry before applying the top coat you can also make your man in the moon two-sided like I did for different applications foreign for the next project I cut up a couple old paperback books into smaller rectangles using my miter saw if you don't have a miter saw you can cut your books with scissors or a utility knife it just takes a little longer if you do use a miter saw you'll want to sand down The Frayed edges to create covers for the miniature books I cut some blank pages out of another old Book and Tape the pages to a piece of cardstock then I selected the images I wanted to use the New York Public Library has an endless selection of book images I'll link the ones I used in the description box after cutting out the images I applied a thin coat of mod podge to the back of each image and then adhered them to the top of each miniature book smoothing out any wrinkles I don't recommend applying a top coat because the paper is likely to wrinkle and it's just not needed you can sell the books individually or tie a few together and sell them as a bundle foreign [Music] this idea has been around for a while but still always sells out for me use old sheet music or book pages and cut out simple Daisy shapes to save time I used my Cricut take a long piece of florist wire and feed it through two or three stacked buttons then take both ends of the florist wire and carefully push them through the center of one of the paper daisies twist one of the wires around on the back side of the paper flower and trim it in place the other wire then becomes your stem add several stems to an old salt shaker or other fun container [Music] here's another project utilizing Dollar Tree supplies this time you'll need some of those large wood maple leaves to start use the wood leaf as a pattern and Trace around it on some plain cotton fabric cut out the leaf shape and then pin it to the back side of a large piece of old sweater fabric sew the two pieces together stitching in about half an inch from The Edge trim off the excess sweater fabric cutting as close to the stitches as possible but do not cut through the cotton fabric this step keeps the sweater from unraveling and creates a finished Edge next paint the wood leaf in a coordinating color of paint when the paint is dry hot glue the sweater to the leaf I made a second Leaf in a coordinating sweater fabric then I took some small pieces of the sweater Fabric and wrap them around the nut part of an acorn once the acorn was covered and the excess sweater was cut off I hot glued the cap back on then I hot glued a small strand of twine around the top of the cap so that I could tie the acorns onto the leaves I realize these are maple leaves and acorns come from oak trees but unfortunately my Dollar Tree didn't have any oak leaves if you have some old sweaters that you no longer wear this is a really budget friendly project foreign [Music] although the popularity of wood bead strands is beginning to wane if you add an unexpected element they still sell really well I purchased a package of small styrofoam pumpkins in mini glass containers at Dollar Tree then I used a heated foam cutter and an X-Acto Knife to carve a hole in the top of each of the foam pumpkins just large enough to hold one of the glass containers it's not necessary to paint the pumpkins but I prefer that look and I like to use waverly's cashew chalk paint then I put the sticks that come with the pumpkins back in them so that I can prop them up in a can to dry once they're dry I thread a long piece of florist wire on a large darning needle and run it through some wood beads and then at regular intervals I run the darning needle through the bottom of one of the foam pumpkins I needed to use some pliers to push and pull the needle through the foam once all the beads were added I put a little hot glue on the bottom of some mini glass containers and inserted them into the center of the foam pumpkins then I added a little hot glue and some Spanish moss around the top edge of each pumpkin I also added some Dollar Tree flowers to each of the vases I drilled a small hole in a laser-cut wood leaf from Dollar Tree to add to one end of the Garland and I made a twine tassel to add to the other end if you'd like to know how to make a tassel from twine or yarn I'll be sure to link a video in the description box that contains a full tutorial [Music] thank you [Music] unique candles always sell well for me and you can easily create some Autumn and Halloween themed candles using decorative napkins separate the Plies of your napkin until you are left with just the top printed layer cut this piece to fit around your candle turn your iron to a medium-low heat setting then roll your napkin covered candle over the sole plate of your iron be careful not to let your fingers or the candle itself come in direct contact with the sole plate trim off any extra napkin at the top and bottom of the candle and then run those edges over the sole plate to seal them this process works equally well with taper or pillar candles and this is a great project for repurposing old stained candles foreign [Music] foreign if like me you often find old wood salad bowls at your thrift stores you'll like this project turn one salad bowl upside down on a second ball and glue them together with wood or super glue paint your bowls with your favorite orange paint I used rust-oleum's rustic orange spray paint when the paints dry super glue a small Branch to the top bowl for a stem brush on a coat of antiquing wax and wipe off the excess to add a realistic touch twist a stem of faux Ivy Vines around the stem I promise you will sell as many of these salad bowl pumpkins as you can make foreign [Music] for this project you'll need some wood Rose sets which you can purchase from stores like Home Depot for two or three dollars paint the rosettes in various colors of chalk paint when the paint is dry lightly distress them with sandpaper brush on some antiquing wax and wipe away the excess I wanted the rosettes to have a Sheen so I sprayed mine with a satin top coat to make the rosettes look more like pumpkins I drilled a hole in the top of each rosette and hot glued a small stick in the hole for a stem and then tied a little Raffia around the stick [Music] thank you pumpkins made from textural Fabrics are still really popular this year to make some cute sweater pumpkins cut the sleeves off of an old sweater and then cut the sleeves into three or four little tubes turn one of the tubes inside out and then sew a basic in and out Gathering Stitch along the edge of the larger end of the tube once you've stitched all the way around pull on the thread to gather up the fabric as tightly as possible without breaking your thread then run a few stitches back and forth through the gathered fabric to make sure it stays tightly gathered now turn your sweater right side out and fill it with pillow stuffing or dried beans once your pumpkin is full run a gathering Stitch along the top edge of the sweater pull it tight and then run a few extra stitches back and forth to hold the Gathering in place then carefully open the hole and insert a small stick and hot glue it in place next using a piece of heavy duty thread run a few stitches next to the stick so that the thread is firmly planted in the sweater then run a long Stitch from the top to the bottom center of your pumpkin feed the needle through the pumpkin coming out at the top next to the stick repeat this process four more times evenly spreading those long stitches around the perimeter of the pumpkin now you're ready to add some embellishments like faux leaves Vines little berries Spanish moss if you want to make several pumpkins you can sew tubes using the body of the sweater but I usually save the big piece for other projects [Music] velvet is everywhere this fall so here's an easy way to capitalize on this hot Trend find some inexpensive picture frames mine is plastic then cut a small piece of velvet slightly larger than the frame fold the edges of the velvet over to the back of the frame and hot glue them in place cut away some of the extra fabric in the corners so it will lay flat after the outer edges are glued down cut a large x in the picture opening fold the flaps of fabric over to the back and hot glue them in place I find that frames with artwork sell much faster than empty frames so I printed out a simple tree image and added it to my velvet frame [Music] in addition to Velvet another hot Trend this fall is dried flowers for this project I used some small picture frames from Dollar Tree but you could use any small frame with the glass removed cut decorative paper to fit inside your frame and adhere it with glue stick then find the center of your frame and drill two small holes there about an eighth of an inch apart thread a small piece of florist wire through the holes creating a small loop on the front side cut a small bunch of dried flowers to fit inside the frame and insert them into the loop of wire then twist the wires on the back side to hold the flowers in place I use dried flowers from Dollar Tree and from my yard some of them might have been weeds but they still looked cute you could add a small twine bow to the flowers or you could spell out a word with letter beads and attach them with twine or florist wire in the same way as the flowers to create a cute hanger string a few wood beads on a strand of twine and then staple each end of the twine to the back of your frame [Music] rustic terracotta pots sell really well for me both in the spring and in the autumn mix some gardening lime with water add a 50 50 ratio stir until the small granules are dissolved then spread the lime mixture over your terracotta pots and let them dry overnight I would recommend applying a lighter coat than you see me doing here once it's dry sand off some of the lime to achieve a weathered look that you like spray the pots with a clear matte top coat to seal the lime and to keep it from further rubbing off the empty pots can be stacked to create acute display or you can fill them with faux flowers and pumpkins [Music] here is a super easy way to create primitive looking candles melt some old white candles in a pan in an oven set to 200 degrees Fahrenheit add a little piece of crayon to your melted wax to achieve your desired color then spoon the wax over an existing candle I use taper candles from Dollar Tree and the thrift store the wax gets thick pretty quickly so you may need to return the pan to the oven for a while when you're done put your dishes in the freezer for 30 minutes and the cold wax will pop right off bundle a few of your candles together and tie them with a strip of cotton fabric [Music] any kind of Leaf art always sells really well for me in the fall for this project I printed out some simple leaf images onto transparency film you just insert it into your printer like a sheet of paper then I cut the transparency film to fit inside some Dollar Tree frames remove the glass the back of the frame and any pins or Staples that hold them in place because the transparency film is so lightweight you can just hot glue it onto the back side of your frame leave it as it is or add a nature image behind the transparency you can also glue on a piece of twine to create a hanger [Music] thank you so very much for watching today and if you enjoyed today's video here's another video I think you may like
