13 reasons why is back for its fourth and final season with many people wishing for the show to have ended at the end of season 3 and many believing it should have ended after the first it was something many people didn't necessarily want to see again however as a fan of the show I was always going to watch it and see how clay and the gang would conclude the multiple deaths and abnormal teen drama that they got themselves into so is season 4 as good as the other seasons of the show and did the show finish in the best way possible well let's find out before I go ahead to make sure you go if it's my Twitter and frame pilot underscore and tweet me what show a movie you'd like me to review next so without further ado I'm brain pilot and here is a review of 13 reasons why season 4 the final season just to let you know this video will contain spoilers so watch with caution the story this is where I was slightly skeptical at first when season 3 came to a close it felt like the group were going to get away with framing Monty and that was going to be it and to be honest I felt like the show could have finished there however when we saw Winston in the final episode it was inevitable that that was going to be another season in season 4 sticking to what many theories were Winston did have a role to play in this story and it was to bring the group down and Klingons his name this is an intention that I thought was clear from the off however the story centered more around the group being tied together by these secrets but the trust that needs to come with it not actually being there and therefore making all of the group fall apart it was an interesting route to go down and I think it was executed in a way that was easy to watch unfold each had their own individual issue Zack would the drink Justin with drugs Jessica with her power Alex and his battle with coming to terms with his sexuality and he coming to terms with her involvement Tyler with the traumatic incidents that occurred and most importantly Cley feeling as though he has to look out for everyone and keep track of all of the lies that he's told to keep them all out of trouble this season was basically told from Clay's perspective and we got to see the deterioration of this character from the effects of all of the lies death and hurt that has been caused in the past three seasons as it came to fruition it all became too much for him I'm glad they focused this season on clay and his mental downfall as you wouldn't expect a child to be able to cover up all of the information that he has over the past few years of course it's going to take its toll on somebody's mentality let alone a child I think the story was consistent in building to reveal of clay being the person who was causing trouble in the school which led to tension in the group as everyone grew suspicious of who this person might be and within season four we also saw the usual ups and downs that we see in any other season of the show with Jessica's love interest in Diego other romances occurring and fights and arguments breaking out over wanting to find out who actually killed Bryce and the framing of Monte this was a massive part of season for Diego the jocks and Winston were all on a witch hunt to uncover the truth as I mentioned all of this flowed really well up until around Episode eight or nine it felt like they took the foot off the gas and the story that we were pursuing was almost put on hold and certain elements felt slightly rushed for example the protests and riots of the school were quickly brushed over with the principal and Jessica's conversation clay seemed absolutely fine in those two episodes despite falling apart piece by piece in the prior seven that was one thing that I did notice also the first few episodes started at the funeral and would then flashback to six months earlier and of course that all of a sudden stopped which I thought was very strange another element that I did notice was the effects that were being used in post-production and with the filming techniques it didn't quite feel like it had a set style like season three some of them felt very strange and quite uncomfortable to watch at points in season three we'd go from being very dissatisfied the same role as a season three it would be when somebody was feeling anxious and also we saw glitches and other visual effects that didn't quite work for the show however episode 9 is something that sticks with me for a different reason just in collapsing at the prop this was when an underlining story that nobody had really picked up on came to fruition and then became the main focal point for me this is where in season four the only real emotion was evoked from me when it was revealed that Justin had AIDS I wasn't surprised due to being able to visually see him in previous episodes but I was surprised that the others didn't notice I'm just putting it down to the fact that clay had too much on his mind but the final episode in the show where Justin does sadly pass away to the illness was extremely emotional seeing how at the start of the season he was on an upwards trajectory and recovering but then silently throughout the whole of season four things were happening to him and in the background he was suffering such as relapsing Jessica dating Diego clay accusing him of using and many other events it was sad to watch unfold and you could really see the impact that he had on many of the other students in the show when he did pass away so the ending this is something that I didn't think I'd say that the ending was brilliant I don't think the show could have ended in a better way we got to see some old faces Hannah the tapes Winston coming to the conclusion that he wasn't going to double them all in the sheriff closing the case after realizing that Alex's dad was looking out for his family and all of the main characters recovering and not having this burden on their mind or as much as it used to be anyway you felt the freedom that they now had and the weight that had been lifted as Alex said he felt happy to be alive and you could see that on all of them especially on clay Jessica and Clay's speeches at graduation really resonated with me I think this is after watching these characters for the past four years and all of the troubles and tribulations that they've got themselves into we as the audience have grown a bond and like the characters a letting go of each other and their past it can be hard to let go of fictional characters and see them for one last time it was right for the show to end their they've left high school and they're starting a new chapter in their life they have their secrets many have gotten closure and they now know that they can trust each other from now on the scene where they were overlooking the town was burying the tapes was something special I like how it didn't resolve with clay being absolutely fine because that wouldn't be realistic he still needs therapy he still relies on his therapist and he'll do so for a while I think this was the perfect way for the show to finish and I wouldn't have wanted it to end any other way each character got their resolution the characters the majority of the cast in the show have been in it from the off and we've watched and develop on screen over the years they each bring their own individual take and style to the role and make the show what it is clay I would say that clay is the main character in the entirety of the show and the others follow shortly behind Dylan Manette delivered a powerful performance this season and really allowed us to see the development of the character and the mental suffering that he was going through although awkward at times we've watched this troubled boy turn into a young man that has faced things far beyond what anybody could imagine Manette should be proud of the performance that he's given this character not only in this season but in the entirety of the show Jessica Alicia Bowe was very good at the role of chessick of this season we saw her a student body president and through all of the trouble that she'd been through in previous seasons should implement her power in the correct ways to make an impact and look out for the students her relationship with Diego was something that I understood but was never really a massive fan of especially at the end after Josh and had died I didn't quite get that however overall I think Alicia delivered a great performance of a character Alex although alex is the killer of Bryce he doesn't necessarily visually show the regret of his actions nor does he ever feel involved in that element of the storyline in season four his story focused more around his sexuality and coming to terms with him this was a nice storyline to have amongst all of the trouble and it did eventually lead to him telling Winston that he killed Bryce which is something that I thought was very random and didn't quite understand Alex again is a character that's grown on me over the past few seasons and I've enjoyed watching Myles Heiser in the role of Alex Justin Justin has gone on a journey throughout the entirety of the show more so than many other characters in this season of the show his the farthest from what he was when we were first introduced him in season 1 he's a softer character that's recovering and now cares more about others than he does himself Justin was suffering throughout most of the season and was battling inner demons and putting on a brave face to all that were around him it was extremely sad when his character collapsed and did eventually go on to die and it was a moment in the show that I think almost definitely remember Brandon Flynn as Justin was a great casting Tyler it didn't feel as though in season 4 Tyler was as heavily involved with the development of the story is what he has been in previous seasons he made appearances and the group would be worried about him at several points but I don't feel as though we make the same impacts as what he has in the past it was nice to see him find a love interest and you could see the development that was made from what happened with Monty in the past but it didn't feel as though he contributed as much as usual it's a shame because I do really like this character Winston Winston was an interesting character in season 4 I thought he'd play a bigger role in the season I thought he'd shake things up and make the group fall to their knees however in the middle of season 4 he didn't even appear in a couple of episodes I thought that was a little strange his battle was ultimately with who he loved more out of Monti and Alex and it turns out that he couldn't face living in the past and was prepared to let Alex get away with it the scene with him and Monte dancing at prom was a great scene to witness and you felt the characters closure on the Hunger to avenge him Tony as always Tony is my least favorite character and I feel he had storylines that didn't even need to be there in fact I don't even really feel as though Tony is that needed in the show he had the storylines of fighting in the ring getting into street fights worrying about Tyler and then making a decision about going to college it just felt like he was whining about being caught and going down that's what I thought anyway I've never really been the biggest fan of Tony Zach Zach is another character that like Justin you've seen developed dramatically I'm a massive fan of Zach's friendship with Alex and would have liked to have seen them play more on that it felt like after the kiss that occurred and the car accident Zach kind of drifted off into the background and just did his own thing I understand he had his issues that were leading him to ruin his grades and start drinking but we didn't see that much unfold it's a shame because I did really like Zach Arnie Arnie didn't grate on me as much this season as she did in the last again I don't feel as though she was that vital to the overarching story and she only had micro influences over a couple of characters such as Jess and clay other than that I don't feel as though she made a massive impact especially considering that like Winston she left for a couple of episodes overall I feel the cast did a great job in delivering these characters one final time final thoughts overall I would say that season four of the show was the perfect wave thirteen reasons why to finish it was the season of the show that I never knew I needed although when looking back at the first season and what 13 reasons why was it is dramatically different to what it initially started out as although different now there has always been a way for the show to develop on and progressed forward I commend the show you for tackling difficult subjects the not many shows or networks would be brave enough to do every season there's been a sensitive issue that has been brought to life and handled in a delicate way I don't think I'll miss the characters that much but I think that's because they've all resolved their journeys and paid the price for what they've done not with time behind bars but with suffering loss and mental and physical pain something that lasts a lifetime season four concluded the show perfectly and I'm very happy with the ten hours that were given to us it's been an enjoyable ride watching four seasons of 13 reasons why over the years and personally I think it's a show that will be remembered so there you have it what I thought of season four the final season of 13 reasons why what did you think of the final season of the show did it end in the way that you would have liked it to leave a comment down below
