hello everyone what do you think this is [Music] believe it or not you're looking at a 132 year old piece of chewing gum it was found in a time capsule it turns out that our ancestors have left quite a few similar messages would you like to take a look at them then today we'll show you a bunch of unusual artifacts from the past let's get it on 100 year old box in 1914 the lower wall street businessmen's association put together a time capsule to write their names down in history they sealed important documents in this beautiful bronze box and gave it to the new york historical society the capsule was to be opened and reburied in 1974 but no one remembered the capsule until the 1990s did they just forget an important message from your ancestors apparently new yorkers had better things to do they decided to open the box for its 100th anniversary in 2014. inside they found medals a letter from the city's governor a stack of newspapers and even a copy of a letter from 1774 revolutionaries the capsule was reburied the same year and another box was added to the bronze chest local high school students placed lady gaga concert tickets headphones and other modern items in it the boxes will not be opened until the year 2114 unless of course people in the future forget about them most ambitious time capsule if 100 years doesn't seem that long to you what do you think of a capsule that's 1 000 years old the massachusetts institute of technology has one such historical artifact although it was buried in 1957 the capsule was discovered in 2015 during a construction job on campus on the capsule it says please do not open until 2957 a.d you have to agree that this sounds impressive apparently the message to the future was buried to commemorate the opening of new labs and the creation of new computer systems at the university this capsule is shaped like a sealed glass cylinder so we can see the objects inside such as scientific articles journals a container of penicillin as well as a computer transistor the authors put some thought into their design they extracted the air from the container and filled it with argon so that the objects would better survive the long journey fortunately the university decided not to open the unusual message and our distant descendants will be able to take a peek into the past message from an angel you are looking at an unusual granite sphere it holds a time capsule from 1892. this unique discovery was made during the restoration of a church in salt lake city the statue of an angel on the church spire sat atop this historic artifact researchers carefully opened the sphere and extracted 128 year old coins books a medallion and a copper plate with the founders names the granite cover did not protect the objects from moisture so the bible and the book of mormon had deteriorated over time the old photographs suffered the most although historians later discovered who was in them the priests and early leaders of the city's parish in total the researchers found about 400 coins 12 books 2 photographs and a medallion now all the most important objects are being restored in the future it is planned that they will be exhibited to the public in the church museum to draw attention to its history message in a bottle not all historical messages are hidden in monuments or on main streets when strolling along the beach don't forget to look under your feet you might come across the world's oldest message in a bottle that's exactly what happened to the illman family in 2018. they were vacationing on the coast of west australia when they suddenly discovered a mysterious glass container in the sand inside rested a thick scroll of paper on the yellow parchment they could read the date june 12 1886. at first the family did not believe in the antiquity of the discovery but later it was confirmed that it was real it turns out that the message was launched from a german weather ship on it more than a century ago scientists were studying the weather in this region of the pacific miraculously the 132 year old bottle survived to this day somehow not affected by the water sun and sand now the almonds are sharing the artifact with museums around the world so that everyone can learn about its unusual history gum from the past in 2019 another time capsule was found in salt lake city apparently historical messages were in vogue in this city the capsule was put together during the founding of a school in 1887 but only now has it been thoroughly studied the metal box was first discovered in 1959 but only one newspaper was removed and handed over to the city archives the rest of the contents were forgotten as a result it has remained untouched to this day so what's inside a bible textbooks a map of the city photographs of the cathedral that we already saw as well as buttons and household objects apparently everyone could leave their memories in this box and this allows experts to tell a lot about life at that time but the most striking find is a 132 year old piece of chewing gum yes looks like a piece of gum would you risk trying this rarity in any case the collection will soon be displayed in salt lake city museums statue with a secret in 2018 a monument to confederate general beauregard was dismantled in new orleans while demolishing the pedestal workers unexpectedly found a copper box it had been hidden in the base of the statue in 1913 so it had become badly rusted over time and brittle there was no doubt inside was something very old and valuable the box was full of historical objects old banknotes documents books remnants of flags and medals and although the flags barely survived the money seemed to feel good in this box there were even bills from 1862. we don't know who decided to leave this legacy for posterity but the person knew exactly where to hide a lot of money today objects from this capsule are still being studied and restored perhaps this box holds more secrets than we can imagine souvenirs in the wall time capsules don't always hide metals documents and dusty newspapers during the restoration of a house in knoxville workers found a stash in the wall that consisted entirely of souvenirs inside the box was a note from a former weight production company who had worked on the property in 1991. inside were toys magazines from those years staff photos and other items from the 90s and you know what the current team did they decided to continue this unusual tradition and have returned the updated capsule to its place perhaps the next generations will be much more surprised by it soldiers room it's not just metal boxes that can become time capsules sometimes an entire room retains its historic look take a look at this world war one french officer's room it has remained untouched since the man went off to war cobwebs have covered his old uniform a pipe of tobacco lies on the table and swords hang on the walls second lieutenant rockarro died in the battle in 1918 and his parents decided to keep the room intact in memory of their son time has stood still in this place furniture from the beginning of the last century a feathered dress helmet on the bed photographs of his faithful comrades after the death of his parents the house changed ownership several times but miraculously the room remained intact today the mansion is owned by a man who honors the memory of the war hero perhaps in the future local authorities will turn the room into a museum but for now it remains a secret portal to the past forgotten portrait another similar story happened in paris it seems that the french really appreciate their history in 2010 an apartment with furniture and works of art from the early 20th century was discovered in one of the houses in the city there lived martha de florian a famous socialite and actress of the time after her death in 1939 and that of her son in 1966 the apartment remained empty for a long time although the granddaughter of the famous lady regularly paid the rent after 44 years the room was discovered intact by relatives and art historians look at this all the things have literally been preserved for decades but the most amazing discovery is a portrait of martha diflorian by giovanni boldini which was valued at 3 million euros at auction no seriously all this time it was gathering dust in one of the rooms timeless shoes what could be better than a room with forgotten paintings only an abandoned shoe store this guy discovered that he had inherited a small store when he got inside he discovered a room that had remained untouched for 50 years inside thousands of shoes were gathering dust boots saddle shoes ankle boots all looking like expensive vintage models no less surprising as the record player from the 1950s it's not a portrait by a famous artist of course but it's not a bad gift from the past either don't you think mysterious safe imagine knocking down a wall to renovate your apartment and behind it you find a mysterious safe this story happened to a couple in phoenix they discovered a stash in the floor containing 50 000 a bottle of bourbon from the 1960s a book and a picture of a strange man but that's not all after searching some more they discovered a code that apparently leads to another time capsule full of money we don't know how the story ends but we hope the guys didn't get into any trouble vehicle warehouse today we continue to marvel at the french in this country they've also preserved a whole fleet of public transport of the 20th century on the territory of the warehouse you can find rare 1908 metro cars street cars and the first buses all the exhibits are preserved in perfect condition are we the only ones who think that public transport used to be more attractive look at that upholstery the leather seats the elegant chandeliers on the ceilings apparently in the early 20th century people knew a thing or two about design even if it wasn't entirely comfortable but how gorgeous in this unusual museum you can see cars from every era so the exhibits here are like time capsules on their own the restorers paid special attention to details so they even preserved the advertising on the vehicles this museum in paris proves that it is not necessary to create a time machine to look into the past you can simply care about history and appreciate it hold on a second do you want to see some crazy stories from real life nothing dull only action only adventures chases and fights love confessions and sudden betrayals don't believe us
